All of Mentopolis' Fun Facts From The Fix
...and from other characters, as specified. All facts will try to be verbatim from the transcripts, to get the fun deliveries. Facts are in chronological order and split by episode. Longer facts will have an attempt at summary by me. Facts with a * mean The Fix killed someone with it.

* For every snake on earth there is one snake dick, and at first ya might think, well yeah, that makes sense, but actually, only half of snakes have dicks, and that means- That every snake that has a dick has two dicks
(every snake that has a dick has two dicks)
An adverb is a type of adjective
From Ronnie Reptile (implicitly): there are indentations on a snake's lip that lets it detect heat signatures
From Ronnie Reptile: komodo dragons are actually not poisonous, but the bacteria in their mouth is so powerful that it acts like a toxic venom
[snakes have two dicks encore]

:readmore:
The tails on a swallowtail butterfly don't serve any aerodynamic purpose. They're there because birds need something to grab onto when they're trying to kill a butterfly, and they are designed to capture the attention of a bird. And that bird will grab onto that tail, and it will break off. And the butterfly will be free.
(swallowtail butterfly tails are meant for predators to bite and the tail breaks off)
Eyes can't be itchy. The membranes around the eyes are innervated with itch receptors and pain neurons, whereas the eyes themselves only have pain neurons because, of course, evolution is strongly incentivized to prevent you from scratching your cornea with your fingernail. So your eyes are never actually itchy. People say, my eyes are itchy! But they're not.
(the membranes around the eyes have itch receptors and pain neurons while the eyes only have pain neurons)
* More than half the bones in your body are in your hands and feet

The urethra contains taste receptors/taste bud like structures
Eagles- When they grip onto somethin', they actually have to flex a muscle to un-grip. So an eagle can hold onto something so hard that even after it dies, it never lets go. But you are not an eagle.
Most of the pyramids on Earth are in Sudan
Pelicans have three stomachs and one of them is just for bones
It's really easy to detect an acid. But it's not easy to detect the presence of oxygen or carbon dioxide. But when carbon dioxide meets water, like it does in our blood, it creates carbonic acid. That means that our bodies can detect the presence of carbon dioxide, but not the presence or absence of oxygen. So as we move through our lives, if we are deprived of oxygen, we have no idea that that is happening as long as we are breathing out carbon dioxide. But if we are not breathing in oxygen, we just go to sleep and we die. But if we allow the CO2 to build up, we panic. We flail. We break. Until finally, we die.
(tbh i didn't understand this one or how to sum it up, we can't all be nerds about every subject)

People can have constipation so bad that it will back up and impact their vagus nerve? And as they are finally eliminating that impacted stool, it can have a effect on the nervous system so great that they forget who they are, called constipation-related amnesia. A woman in Tokyo forgot who she was for eight hours.
(In Trapp's words: Shit yourself stupid.)
Blood is inside your bones because it's safest from UV radiation
from Pasha N.: There are some species of birds that have a secondary pouch in their esophagus or in their digestive tract where they actually contain, referred to as a craw that has stones or other hard material to help break up food matter before it passes into the rest of their digestive tract.
(birds hold grinding stones in a throat pouch called a craw)
There are also some birds that can produce a kind of nutritious substance that they'll, that instead of regurgitating their own food, they will produce a kind of milk. It's almost like lactation, but it evolved separately. It was a case of convergent evolution. Pigeons do it.
(some birds such as pigeons do something kind of like lactation)
from Pasha N.: Woodpeckers have a tongue bone called a hyoid bone that wraps around their brain because the, the pounding into the tree can, of course, you know it needs to protect their brain from the impact, that powerful feeling of, you know smashing into the wood of the tree to, you know devour their common meal items, which of course are grubs and larval insects.
(woodpeckers have a tongue bone called the hyoid bone which is a helmet for their brain)
[pelicans have three stomachs encore from Hunch]
There are some salamanders that feed their babies their own skin
You can't hum while you're blocking your nose.
From Ronnie Reptile: Did you know that the black mamba has been observed at top speeds of 12 1/2 miles per hour at its fastest slither, and that at that speed, it would almost certainly catch even some of the fastest humans on the planet. Even faster people would probably not have the stamina, because the resting or average speed is 7 1/2 miles per hour which is faster than the human average of 6, and that's for healthy adults.
(the black mamba's fastest observed speed is 12 1/2 miles per hour, its average speed is 7 1/2 mph, human average speed is 6 mph)
From Ronnie Reptile: A reticulated python, which is actually the longest, did you know it's the longest snake in the world? It's not the biggest. The biggest is the anaconda. But the longest is the reticulated python.
(the reticulated python is the longest snake in the world, the anaconda is the largest)
The Fix: Do you know what the longest animal in the world is?
Ronnie: No! What is it?
The Fix: It's the bootlace worm.
Ronnie: Is that a reptile?
The Fix: It's a worm! It's not a reptile.
(The longest animal in the world is the bootlace worm, which is not a reptile)
There are some reptiles that have a light-sensing organ on the top of their head so they can sense shadows that might be coming from something that's coming for them
(some reptiles that have a light-sensing organ on their head to sense predators)
6
There's little creatures in the sea that make little lights. And they're quite pretty little lights. And its a little strange that those critters would make those lights cause why would they? They only make 'em when they get disturbed. And I think that would cause attention from little fishes that wanna eat 'em. But here's what happens, those little fishes when they suck 'em up they glow so bright now that little fish is glowing. Has a little target on its back. Cause that little fish aint the only fish in the sea.
(there are little sea creatures which glow when disturbed and when eaten by a small fish glow a lot thus attracting bigger predators to the small fish)
From Pasha: Diners actually originate from dinning cars on trains and the very first diners were actually dining cars of trains that had been taken out of service and were used stationarily as restaurants cause they were cheap and affordable.
(original diners were train dining cars)
The North Pole is actually the South Pole. Because when you look at a compass it points north. But the north pole of the compass is what's pointing north. And north poles point to south poles. So when you go to the North Pole, it's actually the South Pole.
(north poles of compasses point to south poles thus assuming that the north half of a compass arrow points to the North Pole, it is a south pole magnetically)

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @cnnmonbimee! Thank you for the tag!! Read her awesome answers here!
1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 66! More than I thought were on there tbh!
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? Uhhh apparently it's 684,757! Less than I thought!
3. What fandoms do you write for? In order of most fics to least: Ace Attorney, JSHK, My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, Homestuck, Hunter x Hunter, Phineas and Ferb, and Supernatural. I've also written a lot of Pokemon stuff, but somehow that has escaped Ao3 despite it being my longest fandom LOL. Working on a Pokemon SV one currently though 👀
4. What are your top five fics by kudos? Project: Matchmakers (shocker, I know), Sleep (Too) Tight (It's always been slowly but steadily popular), Force of Habit (bit of a surprise there honestly), Project: Matrimony (less surprising), and The Stuff of Dreams. So what I am seeing here is that no one leaves kudos on my JSHK or MP100 or MHA fics :') Some of these fics are one-shots, so it's kind of surprising! I wish PlayWright had gotten more attention; that fic killed me while I was writing it. I'm not giving number of kudos because I'm not comfortable with that and it makes me feel bad about myself haha,,,
5. Do you respond to comments? I try to! I've fallen behind on responding to them in the past 2 years or so because life has been so busy, though…
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably A Practice, For Now?? LMAO it's also my first JSHK and the one with the most kudos HMM COULD THIS FANDOM BE ADDICTED TO ANGST PERHAPS??! I don't write angst a lot!! What can I say, I'm a sucker for a happy ending.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Almost all of my fics end happily, LOL. Pick any of them that actually has an ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not commonly. I've gotten anon hate before about them on tumblr on rare occasions, but usually my comments on ao3 stay pretty nice.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do sometimes, but I'm so shy about it that I rarely ever post it /)//w//(\ Usually I just share it among friends, haha!
10. Do you write crossovers? Nope, and I never will!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Yes. Someone tried to run Project: Matchmakers through a translator to hide the word matches and sell it as an ebook on Amazon, but they only bothered to hide it for chapter 1 so someone reported it to me and then in retaliation I started actually selling it on Amazon for the lowest price I could because the thief was trying to sell the shittier version for like 7 dollars LSFJ;AKLD. Read about the whole debacle here.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes, quite a few! People have been great about asking me for permission! 💖
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes, here and there! Usually it's either fics where I have written one part and someone else has written another scene, or someone had me look over something they'd written and I added so much commentary or threw additional ideas at them so much that the story ended up changing and I somehow became a co-author, LOL.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Oh my god don't make me answer that ;alskdjfl;k. If I wrote a fic for them ever, they're my favorite. I have so many favorites that I've never written fics for, too.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? THE UNDERCOVER FIIIIIC [sobs] and also Left on Read hnnngh
16. What are your writing strengths? Emotions!! I'm super good at those! I'm also really strong at dialogue and banter, and making my writing kinda witty/funny.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Describing settings ;w; I write my scenes like I draw my art: in Descriptionless Blank Voids lkas;dlkf. I also struggle with the flow of action scenes sometimes, though I think they usually turn out okay if I spend enough time on them. I also probably use too many adverbs and adjectives, but y'know what? Fuck it I like my descriptive words thank you very much
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? As long as you're checking that it means what you think it means, or possibly asking a native speaker if you're unsure about context or need a sensitivity reader, I think it's fine. It annoys me if I have to check a footnote every other line, but if you can mostly understand it without a translation in context, it can be kinda nice! At least it says you're trying more than phonetically spelling out an accent, which--remember, kids!--is always cringe! 👍
19. First fandom you wrote for? On Ao3, it was Homestuck. On the internet in general, it was Animal Crossing and Pokemon, LOL.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? Don't make me cHOOSE BETWEEN MY BABIESSS 😭 I dunno man! Project: Matchmakers is my magnum opus, but the PlayWright is lowkey kind of a masterpiece, I love so many of my JSHK fics to bits and pieces, a lot of my MP100 and MHA fics are very special to me, I've been trying to write a HxH one for YEARS and have poured my heart into making it beautiful, just UGHHH every single one of my fics I have vivid memories of conceptualizing and working on and most of them are my favorite to some degree!
I tag @carochinha, @kittykatz009, @toastytoaster22, @ittybittytoostormy, and anyone else who would like to answer these questions!!

i NEED to be arma era pete's mommy girlfriend (i'm a tboy but it's not in a misgendering way) and like. take care of his pathetic wet poor little meow meow ass. i could treat him so right. maybe it's bad or whatever but honestly. i could fix him. if i can wean myself off of drugs then i can help him too. maybe i have a savior complex! but i guess he does remind me a lot of myself. i too am a gross boy so we'd get along like a house on fire. i am chronically insane.
i want to hold him and nurse him. he'd be such a good boy for me. i want to kiss away all his tears and make sweet tender love to him. i've got it something atrocious for him tbh and it's driving me up the wall crazy insane. i feel so insane. but/because i want him. badly. atrociously. desperately. every adverb, etc.

I just saw this on X (formerly known as twitter) and I immediately thought of you. And I don't know why I had the urge to send it to you, so here it is.
Tumblr media
It describes perfectly how I feel about your writing. I usually don't read ongoing fics, but if I find one really intresting I read the first chapter to have a better understanding of it and save it for when it is finished. But with 'Who holds the devil', I felt like I couldn't stop reading. Like I physically couldn't stop reading, and it was all due to your writing. Everything you write about, every detail, every emotion, and every expression is written in the most unique and intresting way I have ever read.
The reason I sometimes prefer reading over watching things is because I have the ability to imagine what I am reading and emmerse myself completly in it when the writing is done well. And you don't just do it well, you do it INCREDIBLE.
In my personal experience, you are the first writer with which I like the long descriptions of things. Because when I read them, nothing feels too long or too much, it just feels perfect for the storytelling. And I only realise that there were a lot of words written after the fact, because everything just sails smoothly.
I don't know why I had the urge to send you this 😅, and I hope I didn't overwhelm you with my unstructured oversharing on here. But I just wanted to say, you are incredible and I hope you stay healthy and happy in the future (even if you suddenly decide to stop writing this fic, there is no pressure as you have already given us a lot).
Take care 💜
I am a little overwhelmed, not going to lie, but in a good way? In that way where I don't really know how to respond because I'm feeling so many things right now, but all of them good.
I've said it before but it will never not blow my mind when I hear just how much my writing seems to affect people. Because it doesn't feel all that glamorous to me, you know? When I'm sitting there, frowning at my document, trying to figure out what word goes where. Or when I'm trying to find the right rhythm and cadence to the sentences, and capture the right emotions and imagery to tell the story I can see playing out inside my head.
But I am, of course, incredibly flattered and also very proud to know that I can have such an impact. I started writing fanfics on a whim — because I wanted to write at least one before I died — and the art of writing (or whatever you want to call it) wasn't even something I reflected on at the time. Well, tbh, I can't say that I do that all that much now, either — I just write what I think sounds nice xD
Point being, even if I've always put a lot of effort into my writing, it never really occurred to me that I might end up being genuinely good at it. That felt like such an unobtainable goal that I never even considered it. And it's been pretty disorienting to be told that I am (but, again, in a good way).
Especially since I go against a lot of the common writing advice that you see floating around. I write a lot of words — some that are definitely not needed. I use adverbs, adjectives, and whatever the heck I want. I often do a lot of telling instead of showing. I repeat things and spell things out for the readers in a way that good writers shouldn't. I do a lot of hand-holding with my readers, taking them through every step of the character's thought process and reactions. I write detailed descriptions of what the characters are feeling instead of only showing it through their actions. The list goes on.
Like, if you look at what the writing advice says, I should be a terrible writer xD
But I'm glad that I'm not. I'm glad that I can write things that move people and that the stories I tell feel that engaging. And I love being able to share them and spread the joy. It's such a wonderful feeling to know that I've made a difference somehow, however small it may be.
So thank you so, so much for your kind words. Which feels wholly inadequate to convey just how grateful I am that you took the time to write and send this, but trust me when I say that it means a lot to me. I never thought I'd reach this point, with people reaching out to me just to tell me how much they love my writing. How wonderful is that? It leaves me utterly speechless sometimes.
How is this my life?
And so far I have no plans to stop writing Who Holds the Devil, don't worry. I can't promise it'll happen quickly what with everything that's going on in my life right now (like being officially diagnosed with burnout due to long Covid — yay me) but I'm way, way too stubborn to give up. And I also love the fic and the characters too much to stop xD I want to see this through to the end just as much as the rest of you.
So yeah. Thank you again for sending this — it made my day. And you take care, too 💜

If I want to say something (a drawing or picture) is beautiful, like "that is beautiful" how would I say it? Is it okay to say "fa bel" or no?
Ciao,
Nope, we use basically the English sentence's literal translation*. Despite there are times in which things can be modified a bit depending on the context and sentence structure... but the verb used is always the auxiliary "to be" = essere (as in English, something is beautiful). "Fare" (= to do/make) isn't involved here. Let's start easy, basically with your example. *[disclaimer: tbh in Italian we have 2 translations for "beautiful" as it could either be bello or bellissimo, but tbh bellissimo is a bit more beautiful than bello -pls refer to this "superlative" post- so bello could be considered as "nice/cool/admirable".]
If someone is showing you something, like a kid is showing you their drawing, you could say "è bellissimo!" = (it/that) is amazing! (the subject, that the kid is holding or anyone else is pointing out to you, can be left implied). Ofc, we're using the masculine singular "bellissimo" because the subject, the drawing, in Italian is a masculine singular noun (=il disegno). You always need to conjugate the adjective according on the gender/number of the noun/thing you're referring to. eg. *you're looking at a bunch of pictures = le fotografie, feminine plural noun*: "(sono) bellissime!" The verb to be (sono) could be left implied here: it works as in the English "Amazing!", "Beautiful!", so the verb is not strictly necessary, but it adds stress ig (could be me though LOL - Italian at times is a personal experience).
Sometimes though, we may add the subject as well as a stressor, so you could tell to the kid: "Che disegno bellissimo!!" (What an amazing drawing!!) Or, eg. if you're in an art gallery looking at a painting you find amazing, you could either say "Bellissimo!" (Amazing) or "Che quadro bellissimo!" (What an amazing painting!) -> You could add a stress on your surprise by adding the stressor "ma" in the beginning of your sentence "Ma è bellissimo!" (in this case the verb to be needs to be there, generally-let's not add too much here. For now, use the verb as it helps you with conjugations, you'll move forward when you're ready^^).
You can also add a bit more of stress on the surprise/exclamation feeling you are experiencing (like eg. being gifted something or seeing/experiencing something; you could tell this to the kid too, despite as mentioned bellissimo is a bit more than bello and you cannot say "che bellissimo") by saying: - Che bello! [if it's a painting/drawing = quadro/disegno. These are masculine singular nouns so you need to use the masculine singular adjective "bello". Same goes for any other masculine noun as eg. panorama = landscape.... This masculine form works also as a general adverb for random experiencing like eg. you're riding a horse, you could say "Che bello!!" cause you're having fun] - Che bella! [if it's a picture = foto. This is a feminine singular noun and you need to use the feminine singular adjective "bella". Same goes for any other feminine noun as eg. pianta = plant...) -> "Che" here works as an exclamative adjective (LINK); it's basicaly the "that" you used in the begining of your sentence. -> To add even more stress, you could add here to a "ma" in the beginning eg. "Ma che bello/a!!" -> Yes, again beware: you need to choose between "Che bello!" or "(è) bellissimo!". No mixing allowed! ;)
Remember these too are adjectives so they need to be in the same gender/number of the thing/noun they refer to. This way, you don't have to add what they are (despite you could, to stress you're talking specifically about it). E.g. che belle foto ! = such/ these are nice pictures!
Hope this helps and it's clear enough, if you have doubts please ask again!

for the 'get to know your fic writer' - how about 20 and 24!
20. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?
Oh, absolutely everything I touch winds up being trauma exploration, it seems, even without my really meaning for it to be. I can't keep away from it.
I love messy, complicated family dynamics (probably because I'm constantly trying to understand my own).
The divine in the monstrous, the monstrous in the divine.
And, of course, I am a sucker for Anxious Smol Bean x Gigantic Calm Protective Partner. It just hnggggggg scratches a very particular itch for me. Can't get enough of it.
I love playing with characters who have to deconstruct their worldviews, too. Though that kind of goes hand-in-hand with trauma recovery tbh.
Slow burn slow burn slow burn. Romantic or platonic literally doesn't matter. I just love the slow unraveling of things. Tugging at threads. Nudging characters together. Watching them unfold aaaaaaAAA
24. Worst writing advice anyone ever gave you?
It's a toss up between the "keep things short and simple and don't overcomplicate your prose" (use simple words, simple sentences, etc. etc. if you CAN take out words, do take out words writing advice. Which just...no, minimalist prose isn't for everyone and has nothing to do with storytelling. Purple prose is a real thing, but IMO minimalist prose is just as bad unless you're writing a research paper.) -- and the writing advice to take out all adverbs and replace them with stronger verbs. Which, to be fair, sometimes adverbs can be a crutch and if a writer is overusing them it can be a sign of a weak vocabulary, but we have adverbs for a reason and sometimes what you really need in a particular sentence is an adverb! I'm sick of being told that they're the devil and to delete everything in your document ending in '-ly' 😅 it's a writing advice pet peeve of mine tbh. Don't be afraid of adverbs!

For the Writer Asks Game: 4, 5, 21, and 23?
Oh! Thank you so much for the ask! ^_^
4. How many times have you been thrown off plot for a particular WIP?
Tumblr media
Only the first question and I already feel attacked (lmao jk but at the same time...hngghghghg). The bottom line answer is TOO MANY. It's to a fault, unfortunately... It's why I'm so slow to update and write at all really... :(
5. How would you describe your writing style? Does your writing style change for different WIPs? If yes, describe all or maybe just a few.
Tumblr media
Hm...I honestly don't think it changes much. I have a hard enough time sticking with whatever style I have tbh. It's a mix between descriptive and narrative, I think, but sometimes I bog down my work too much with repetition and other things that have been pointed out over the years. It stems from my problems with needing to explain everything and overexplaining from being misunderstood or purposefully ignored (mostly in the past). I enjoy describing things, though, but I find I really enjoy writing dialogue/banter and feel like I have a strong foothold with that. I'm not even sure this answered the question...gah.
21. Have you thrown any writing rules that everybody follows out of the window?
Tumblr media
I end sentences with prepositions, I start sentences with Ands and Buts and Because-es, I adverb things the F*CK up because idc how "unecessary" they are they can really add to the emotion/situation imo, I still use the Oxford comma with lists and will die on this hill, I keep run-on sentences for fun sometimes (especially if it suits the emotion/situation), semicolons and en/em dashes are friends of mine in this house, as are ellipses (my true love affair).
23. Tell me about your newest WIP idea. Even if you haven't written it down. Even if it will die in a matter of days.
Tumblr media
Oh, dear. There are many that live in my head rent free the freeloading bastards that they are, but aside from my long fic I'm trying to focus on at present, there's an outline I'm working on with a friend to co-write a Dragon Age fic that involves one of her OC Inquisitors (Flyn Lavellan) and one of my OC Wardens (Cerys Surana). I've drawn a few (conceptual) things for them on my art blog as well. Like this || and this || and this! ^_^ ~I'm also trying to refresh an outline for a Detroit Become Human fic with a Connor/Fem!OC I had from a while ago that I just kinda gave up on until recently that takes place post-"Best End". Action/Mystery/Romance kind of thing with that one. ~Then I have one that's a shorter piece in my head (not on paper/typed atm like the others) for a Ryan Lucan/Fem!OC for the Life is Strange: True Colors universe that's pure romance with an underlying focus on mental health issues and struggles. ~THEEEN I have been pecking away at a re-telling of the Dragon Age Origins world state I've made with my OC, Selph Surana, and her romance with Alistair in the game. Been typing that a bit as well as drawing things for them, too. Like this || and this || and this comic page!
There are others, but those are the big ones. Goodness gracious me.

Hi! I’m here for the questions for fic writers :)
How about!!! 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 13, 14. I know this is ridiculous and a lot so feel free to pick and choose!! I’m just very curious and passionate about your writing. Sending hugs and lots of love <3
I literally forgot all about this ask omg!! Okay woo let's gooooo. Under the cut because, you know, it's me.
2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
Unequal social status. The whole Princess and the Pauper thing I kinda vibe with. It depends a lot on the characters I'm working with tbh -- some tropes fit some fandoms better than others. But in terms of hq, definitely this trope!
3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
Love triangles, particularly like if it’s the Main Plot. I have been scarred from the 2010s where every teen piece of media had a fuckin love triangle like bitch I am OVER IT. Plus it’s like, someone always gets their heart broken and I don’t like that. I actually could go on and on about this but I won't make you read an essay haha
5. Share one of your strengths.
I actually hate you for always making me reflect on my work -.- I have no idea what my strengths are… I guess I’m good at idea generating lmfao I always have a million ideas?
9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?
Haaaaands down the stars are already dead. Not only because it’s such a heavy topic and I’m so worried about how I handle it, but also because it’s shifted away from romance, which I’m more comfortable writing, into a study on grief, which is much more complex.
10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?
Oop I’m gonna mention 2. Unravel was relatively easy because I had so many scenes and specific ideas I wanted to write out. I planned it out pretty okay and had so many details in brainstorming that I could draw from if I was stuck. Though my one story, Something Safe was written in less than a day when I was at work. I had so many feelings about those characters and the video game that it just flowed right onto the page.
13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
Show emotions; Tell feelings. Came across this on a tumblr post on pinterest. I mostly use it as a reminder to ensure I don’t ramble too much with descriptions or get carried away and to remind myself to focus on the emotions of the characters, because that’s usually the most important part to me. It's really more of a guideline.
14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
Don’t use adverbs. You can pry adverbs from my cold dead hands. I actually dislike writing advice that so specifically says Do Not Do. It makes me immediately feel bad if I see something on the list that I do when I write and I think writing is so specific and personal to each writer that advice like that just isn't that helpful.

thinking abt writing & the more abstract technicalities - things like cohesiveness of themes, etc. - and how those can work in tandem or even offset what contemporary writers may view as weaknesses 🤔 like, sometimes you really can pepper a page with nothing but pronouns or use adverbs willy nilly if what youre writing has that strong Abstract Quality... this doesnt make much sense tbh but ive been thinking about some great books ive read that demonstrate what some ppl would call weak writing but their execution is still SUPER enjoyable to me as a reader & writer

For the writer ask!
★ What was the scene you most wanted to write in "words of affirmation"? what was the hardest scene to write?
the scene i wanted to write the most: the very first one where light first sees the sticker and discovers something about himself at an inopportune time ;) this was a silly idea between me and @god-of-this-new-blog, shout out to her for sending me the funniest tiktoks ever!
hardest scene to write: the last part where L is injecting T. i'm not trans, so i wanted to make sure it was both realistic and didn't give off chaser/objectifying vibes. i wasn't really sure how a friend/crush could plausibly involve themselves in the weekly injection process because it seems pretty straightforward to DIY (as opposed to something more involved, like helping someone with an injury or surgery recovery). so i wrote a crappy draft that was like, horrendously inaccurate, and showed my bestie @quicktimeeventfull and xie generously and graciously unfucked it (this is a common theme in all my writing tbh lmao). and now i feel way more informed about HRT! a win-win!
✎ how do you think readers would guess a fic was yours if you posted anonymously?
GREAT question...gratuitous use of adverbs, samey-samey sentence structure, light crying, L being unwilling to show his hand/engage in emotion, descriptions of clothing and food/drink. i dunno, shouldn't you guys tell ME what my hallmarks are??

Okay, I'm gonna go: 20, 22, 58, and bonus: 13 😊
thank you 💗💗💗
20. Have you noticed any patterns in your fics? Words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc?
i have this mantra for writing Stede, which is "super high (usually unearned) self confidence, ultra low self esteem" (i made a post about it at some point i think), and that is what i base most writing decisions regarding him on, if that counts. i also have a tendency to mention his hair a lot but who can blame me 🤷
22. Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)
you probably won't catch me writing non-con or major character death, or very heavy angst (simply because i'd make myself too sad writing it lmao). i am also very married to 3rd person limited pov and probably won't stray from that but i don't want to say never to anything tbh 🤸
58. What part of the writing process do you enjoy the most? (Brainstorming, outlining, writing, editing, etc)
definitely coming up with ideas and writing down all my notes. so a mix between brainstorming and outlining i guess but brainstorming doesn't seem like the right word - i don't search for ideas as such, they seek me out lmao
(bonus) 13. what’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
trying to scale back on adverbs (though not shunning them) ✌️

Head cannons for some of the host in hours?
Yeah hi sorry for the late response firstly i had a terrible morning and secondly i just had my english exams which sucked balls but anyways
Equinox and Invader are related in some way. Consider, they both dual wield, they both have life steal of some sort, they both have a dash attack . Dont argue with me about it.
Prophet is ill over fluffy things my personal interp is they have a cloak with the megafluff on the shoulders idk how to describe it you know what i mean they just rly like fluff
Witness is a slut. /JOKE
Witness is very flirty is what I mean, both with words and posing dramatically just to flirt . That’s just their vibes to me
Artisan is the type to “wat u up 2 :P >w<” in casual convos and “To further prove my case, I have provided eight sources that debunk every bit of misinformation you have shared in this argument” during serious convos . also they are EXTREMELY affectionate over their bobots
Vestige is a slut but the polar opposite of Witness /AGAIN, JOKE
Vestige is one of those Is gay but is in severe denial about it kind of guys . He’s Easy to fluster but he doesn’t like to admit it whatsoever. He’s terrible at hiding his emotions but will tell you he’s a-okay after sobbing for two straight hours
Visitor says poetic adverbs I rest my case
Subject is Witness but worse /hj
Subject is actually nerdier than they give off but the only reason nobody knows that is because they never bother listening to them infodump about nerdy stuff
Parting calls you slurs affectionately and petnames derogatively Why is derogatively not a word what the hell . Also says Sonic Fandub references
Also I DO like to perceive Easy Lover as a character herself i have genuinely never watched jjba ever so idk how stands work but Lover is bisexual and Parting WILL reference “woah he’s bisexual, i didnt know that” every single time it’s brought up
They ALL watch anime but Drifter is the most ill about it and will kill you if you don’t let him infodump about a hyperfixation
I personally love Witness and Vestige the most as a duo just flirty x cant stand the flirting also my sibling told me they fit the cowboy aesthetic together and I will latch onto that forever
I have no headcanons for the rest of the hosts tbh bleh

Hi there 朱朱, your blog popped up under my "Check out these blogs" section. So I didi! Just wanna say...Ask me anything would sound more nature if it's 隨你問 or 隨便你問 or more closely translated, 問什麼都可以! 問我隨便吧 is grammatically incorrect because 隨便 is an adverb here and it doesn't work if it comes after the verb.
For example, if you're at a shop, the shop owner might say 隨便看看喔 meaning "you're free to look around" as in an encouraging way for you to pick things up and maybe try it on. They will not say 看看隨便喔! because when 隨便 is used as an adjective it's quite insulting. I have a sideblog where I do language-related stuff. 隨便看看喔!
LMAO CAN YOU TELL I DID THAT TRANSLATION LIKE A YEAR AGO RIP
Obviously I did not understand 随便 back then lol Thank you so much for such a detailed explanation!!! Tbh I didn't even remember doing "ask me anything" in Chinese.
I shall go fix it 🫡
And I'll post this so my followers can have your awesome explanation :D
