CitoIta and Kingdom Hearts Headcanons

Because I like Kingdom Hearts and I like them and they are gamers

(I say CitoIta but honestly, it’s just because it’s about Citron & Itaru, the ship is kinda vague here lol. Like it’s probably optional to read it that way at this point)

(There’s an attempted bonus section about Banri at the end, that’s why I tagged him.)

In this post, scientifically backed by my memory, understanding of the characters and other things (eg: feelings, unlisted headcanons, & my understanding of types of people in fanbases/the kh fandom, minus shippers, I’m not touching that... here, I might consider it in the future, probably not but maybe), I will go over basics like how many games they’ve played and their fave games, trios, characters by groups, and moments. Also, there are conversations and little tidbits about how it fits into their world. I tried to pick a favorite battle but note that they probably have more than one those are just notable ones that I thought were worth mentioning. There will be KH spoilers if you’re someone unfamiliar/not caught up with it.

Citron

Has not played every game but has looked into the story and watched playthroughs of some of the other games.

Hasn’t played the games he has played in order,

Might not have caught up on the story in order but if so that’d be more because he was looking for specific characters and info

I know logically they don’t appear that often irl but I also know in my heart that it’s happened enough that Taichi, then Kazu and Kumon participated. Now, the rest of Mankai keeps an eye out for them

But honestly, if Vanitas can’t even get close to beating Terra what hope does he have to actually beat Aqua. I can vouch that he can’t beat Terra. I beat the Terra v Xehanort and Vanitas battle by whacking Vanitas around. It was really easy. Vanitas has only beaten Ven in a fair fight. He’s not nearly as strong as Terra and Aqua. It’s demonstrated through their elements, really. Vanitas is fire...

Banri: *stressed, wasn’t expecting a whole lecture, looks to Itaru for help*

So yeah those are some of my headcanons involving KH and CitoIta (and Banri with minor Mankai mentions.) If anyone wants to do Taichi(who idk could play already, while I haven’t picked any out I know what type of moments would be his faves, I just can’t figure out yet if he prefers characters he relates to or characters he thinks are cool/want to be like) or Kumon (who I’d feel would want to start after seeing them enjoy it, bet Banri and Citron would have him play chronologically by timeline rather than release order “for science”) or any other characters, really, I’d gladly read it. I can see Taichi & Kumon playing KH but I don’t feel like I know them well enough to do this with them lol. I’m not even sure I know Banri well even to this with him but I attempted it lol. If there’s any questions about my decisions I might answer them, some are easier to put into words than others though.

Anywho, I dunno how to end this post tbh. Ship CitoIta, Play Kingdom Hearts. idk.

Some very smart people yesterday (@isaksbestpillow and @nieves-de-sugui) wrote about yesterday's announcements of GMMTV adapting Japanese stories like Ossan's Love and Kieta Hatsukoi/My Love Mix-Up. I haven't seen Ossan's Love yet (and I WILL watch it, once I'm done with the OGMMTVC, because that's my due diligence/completionist side talking, ha).

Generally speaking, there's excitement and/or confused discontent about why Thailand is increasing its adaptations of well-known Japanese manga and dorama properties -- particularly about My Love Mix-Up.

Other very smart people, like Dr. Thomas Baudinette, a BL scholar, have written about what exactly fans *should* be comparing when these shows come out -- that the Thai live-action dramas are most often based on Thai literary adaptations of the original Japanese manga series that provided the material for the Japanese live-action doramas.

Au Kornprom, the director of the upcoming GMMTV Thai version of My Love Mix-Up, and Fourth Nattawat and Gemini Norawit, the lead actors of the Thai drama adaption, clarified these points as well.

I think all entities involved are aware of the confused discontent about what's happening here, and I want to unwind on it for one hot second -- because I myself am still relatively new to the Thai BL fandom, but my entrée to all of this was from Japanese BL doramas a few years ago.

Check the Kieta Hatsukoi tag on Tumblr, and we see all manner of different opinions about how the Thai adaptation will stand up to the Japanese live-action dorama original with Michieda Shunsuke and Meguro Ren. Same on Twitter. Michi and Meguro brought an incredibly distinct, controlled, comedic, and empathic perspective to Aoki's queer revelation, and Ida's inquisitive demi identity.

I deeply appreciate Dr. Baudinette, Au, Fourth, and Gem for clarifying where GMMTV is coming from with this adaptation -- that this adaptation stems from the Thai adaptation of the original KH manga.

But I wanna offer a thought, again as someone new to the Thai BL fandom. BLs across Asia make up only a TINY slice of the massive amount of dramas that Asia have to offer. For those of us that stay close to Asian queer content: many of us have seen a LOT of shows over many countries. And we can't help but to compare shows! That's comparative media literacy for you. If the stories are similar, if the stories stem from the same original source -- well, we can't help but compare.

I want to also say that Japan and Thailand are going to have different - maybe VASTLY different -- ways of managing elements of the KH story, such as Aoki/Atom's queer revelation, and Ida/Kongthap's demi identity. Japan and Thailand are different countries -- OF COURSE they are going to have different socio-national lenses on these identify factors.

What got me in my heart when I watched Kieta Hatsukoi last year was the EMPATHY, the skilled and pointed empathy in which Michi and Meguro played their Aoki and Ida. Japan and Thailand are just DIFFERENT when it comes to kissing, love, and sex. It won't be fair to compare their international lenses to each other as holding up to each other in art.

But what I don't want to do is invalidate the broader fandom's experience of how we saw Michi, Meguro, and the Japanese BL world from interpreting these incredible characteristics that made the Japanese version of Kieta Hatsukoi such a deep show to watch. Was it cute? Was it fluffy? I'd actually argue: NO. It was communicated in a uniquely Japanese way. (I can't find it, but there's a TikTok of a group of Americans dancing to what they think is a Japanese fluffy pop song -- when the lyrics are actually about suicide. Cultural competency is always important for all of us to keep in mind as we watch Asian shows from country to country.)

And I also want to point out, speaking for myself, as I continue to burrow my way into the Japanese, Korean, and Thai BL fandoms -- that, once upon a time, there were WAY FEWER Asian queer shows to watch. So if you were looking for queer shows from Asia? You were LIKELY watching shows from ALL the Asian countries producing BLs. Thus the massive fandom overlap from people who HAVE seen the Japanese Kieta Hatsukoi/My Love Mix-Up, TO the people who WILL see GMMTV's version.

I absolutely heed and RESPECT where Au and Dr. Baudinette are coming from in specifying from where the GMMTV adaptation will come from.

But in regards to comparative perspectives on what Japan has produced, and what Thailand WILL produce? I truly don't think we can avoid the comparisons. I don't. I do very much wish for a broader, smarter, more intellectual comparative media dialectic between Japan and Thailand. But sometimes, us fans just wanna squee and TALK about our beloved shows. I squeed at the Japanese version of Kieta Hatsukoi because that show communicated complicated factors of queer identity with comedy and empathy. That's a particularly Japanese tack on producing BL art.

Because the BL fandom has had only a set amount of shows year over year, of course, many fans who WILL watch GMMTV's version of My Love Mix-Up WILL have watched the Japanese dorama version. Because, because! As I said before, the amount of queer media from Asia has always been smaller than het material.

Au Kornprom is a HERO to me. He's given me Bad Buddy, he's given me Theory of Love, he's given me A Tale of Thousand Stars, Moonlight Chicken, Still 2gether, all shows I fucking LOVE and LIVE WITH, I'd SLEEP WITH THESE SHOWS like a Nong Nao doll if I could.

There is no one, expect for Aof Noppharnach, that I trust more with this adaptation.

But I did just want to say my piece about the validity of comparisons and comparative media literacy here. Because there's no avoiding comparing the two dramas -- there isn't. Because Kieta Hatsukoi was so, SO good, and we do very much indeed hope that the key elements of that story are honored.

If they're not? Then we will learn, through the GMMTV version, what Au and his Thai team honor in the story, and our perspectives will be broadened. I recognize that the GMMTV team may value different elements. But I also respect the feeling of nostalgia for KH, and what we loved about that show, and how Japan communicates the elements that that nation values, too. We just can't help but compare, and my biggest wishes are that:

1) Fans watch the Japanese version of Kieta Hatsukoi before the premiere of the GMMTV, to understand where us on the comparative sides will be coming from, and

2) That Au, Fourth, and Gem slay in their usual way, because no matter what, we will still love and appreciate them for being THEM.

My fingers are BIG crossed, and my hopes are BIG up. This is just a great opportunity for those of us who are curious to take a respectful moment to compare Japanese and Thai drama art together, and to have a lot of fun doing it.

Love you tags/thoughts on Sora as MoM theory. I never care for it either since that would break the "dull, ordinary boy" thing Nomura is insistent on, and what would it do for Sora's character exactly? He should resist change/growth even harder? A clone theory on the other hand...well isn't that a super ordinary thing by now?

We’d definitely be stretching what constitutes as “ordinary.” Because even if clones and replicas and nobodies and all that have become ordinary in KH… if Sora’s a clone or something of the MoM, he still exists for a decidedly unordinary reason.

But Nomura has honestly been stretching Sora’s “ordinariness” for a while. After all the extraordinary things Sora’s done, since the literal time he was born apparently (connecting with Ven’s shattered heart), he doesn’t really feel like an ordinary boy anymore.

But I guess it depends on how we define “ordinary,” too. When Xehanort and Xigbar/Luxu and even Sora himself think “special,” they think chosen. Chosen by the Keyblade. Chosen by the universe. Chosen for greatness. And in that context, yeah, Sora is ordinary.

If Sora’s a clone or something, it wouldn’t change anything. He’s still unchosen. And all of his “specialness” still comes from his connections with other people. MoM would just be another name on the list. He’s “special” because MoM is. In fact, MoM would be the only reason Sora is in the story. The only reason he exists at all.

You’re special because another you — the original — is special. Boy does that sound familiar… I mean, it might explain why this theme of not being real or original and then characters asserting they are their own people keeps coming up over and over and over… Would also give more weight to Sora’s existential crisis in DDD over whether his self is original or just made up of other people’s memories, feelings, experiences, desires, etc.

Honestly it’s less a question of “is this plausible” and more well WHY would MoM make a clone of himself. The only thing I can really think of is the X-blade. MoM knows he’s ditching reality. For whatever reason, he needs someone to get the X-blade for him. Luxu’s mission is to observe and make sure everything plays out like MoM wants, but maybe MoM doesn’t trust him with the X-blade.

The locked black box feels like a trust test, which tells me MoM doesn’t 100% trust his apprentice. Which means the only person MoM trusts is himself. Perhaps he made a him that could obtain and deliver the X-blade to him in the future. Oof what a mean parallel that would be to what Riku tells Sora in KH1, “You were just the delivery boy.”

Or maybe MoM needed someone who was specifically going to mess the prophecy up. What I mean by that is, he needed to introduce something new to the story — the prophecy — to change it. Because before he disappeared, he was specifically interested in the idea of changing fate/what’s been written. Sora’s like an extra digit in the code. Something that’s not supposed to be there that changes everything.

Maybe it’s a mix of both things. Maybe it’s not a coincidence that Sora is born, or at least his heart comes into existence, the exact moment Xehanort splits Ventus’ heart… Because MoM’s eye is in Xehanort’s Keyblade, and MoM knows Ventus is significant to the prophecy and specifically the X-blade.

And let me be just really insane for a second — Coded. Mickey creates Sora the digital copy is MoM creates Sora the copy is Nomura creates Sora the character. Each Sora is a tool: to solve a problem, to change a story, to tell a story. Jiminy’s Journal is the Book of Prophecies is Kingdom Hearts the series. God damn.

Any character you create is a blank slate until you give it a personality. Characters are based on us or people we know or characters that already exist. Nomura created Sora as a sort of opposite of himself and traditional SE mcs. Mickey bases Data Sora on Sora, but his own perception of Sora also seems to influence Data Sora… MoM maybe bases Sora on himself but has Sora’s newborn heart cross with Ventus’ broken one, forming a unique connection and impacting Sora’s personality, creating a “new” person.

I mean, if MoM wants to throw a wrench in the prophecy, it doesn’t make sense for Sora to be exactly like him, right? It sounds convoluted, but this is Kingdom Hearts we’re talking about… The fact that Sora’s name not only translates to “sky” but “emptiness” too… 😐 If you took away Sora’s connections, would there be anything original left that defines his self?

These are just some quick thoughts. I’m not sure how I feel about this theory. As on brand as it is for a series where every non-Disney character is also part of another character, mostly either Sora or Xehanort, I kind of want MoM to be a new character… But I guess they wouldn’t conceal MoM’s name if it’s one we’ve never heard before or one that doesn’t tell us a whole lot.

Anyway. In response to your comment about the Sora is MoM theory, like MoM is him from the future or another timeline or something… Playing Devil’s advocate, I would think in this scenario MoM would exist specifically because Sora does resist change. Like — assuming Sora became MoM because he couldn’t bear the deaths of his friends or the guilt for the destruction of the whole universe since Sora felt responsible for saving everyone (I can’t think of another reason he would go off the rails) — this would be what happens when you don’t accept change and loss and do not positively grow from those experiences. MoM would be a warning.

i don't follow anyone/tags for kingdom hearts, and the handful of people i follow with drakenier content just post art or very cool theories. so, answering this for ff7: the worst take i've ever seen are 99% genesis ones, because even outside of the games people canNOT stop getting his nose wrong (rapunzel reference lmao). he's not gonna throw a fit and be a karen about... literally anything. he wasn't a 'rich kid', he was just adopted by the least poor family in banora. aka, the village funded by shinra. and who's to say his parents did more than the bare minimum of feeding him? i see a lot of takes that are just 'oh he'd act like x because he grew up spoiled and bratty and he had all this stuff' and it's like... all his stuff was in a cave. (i know i made his parents chill in cosmic, but thats with the threat of jenova. they got their shit together because it WAS their lives on the line lmao.)

9. worst part of canon

Easy. kh: the lack of any development or personality aside from 'girl' for kairi. if nomura can do it for aqua he can do it for kairi. that being said, i wouldn't be at ALL surprised if kairi's personality being so flat is a plot point for later, or because she was inside sora for the majority of kh1. for drakenier: the fact we never see god. i need to know if hes hot, yoko taro 🤨. show him. for ff7: ... no dirge remaster. jkjk the srs answer is not letting ANY of the parents live. except for zack's? maybe? i think? and elmyra and barret, technically, but i mean moreso main cast's own parents, like cloud, tifa, aerith (bio), etc etc. its Wild how few parents we see/hear anything about. this isn't *canon* specific, but the fact before crisis is. lost media. in that u can't play it. man wtf. cries.

sorry to anyone who has wondered where i've been, if that's been anyone at all

i fell out of making art for kingdom hearts, and i was tempted to make this huge post with receipts to explain why, but instead i think it will be easier to just say this: fandom zines suck, and a mod that ran the ienzo/zexion zine i was in harassed me into basically just giving up and not making any art of him or posting about him.

the experience i had in that zine was bad enough that i had to make this decision: from now on, i will not participate in fandom zines run by other people. i love making and helping with zines so this really upsets me, and i hope to get back into the zine scene soon. maybe self-published is the way to go for me, im not sure. i am not even sure i can return to the zine scene at all because the deadline stress is too much for me, personally.

i've also become hesitant to participate in fandom events at all anymore. the exception has been the TWEWY secret santa that's happened the last 2 decembers, and that's because i am comfortable enough with the mod and people involved that i know im not going to be like. Harassed. lol

i lost my drive to create KH stuff at all because interacting with it, and especially making stuff about ienzo, who is my favorite, would have opened me up to furthered harassment, and i just didn't want to deal with it. due to the nature of working on the zine and being sent a copy of it, it's very possible the person who harassed me could make a lot of trouble for me if i say anything at all, which is why i just Haven't until now. they have my name and previous address, which i gave to them before the harassment started. i was required to give it to them to be compensated even slightly for my work. so this being potentially used against me, for what amounts to expressing my own opinions on my own blog, made me hesitant to say anything or involve myself further in the fandom.

all i did was say the very normal and lukewarm opinion of "it makes me uncomfortable when people want to see someone fuck their adoptive parent figures, and i don't want people like that following me", and said mod ended up DMing me to chastise me about it. im not going to name that mod or share the screenshots openly, because that would be taken by them as 'harassment', ironically, and i just would like to move on.

that, combined with a lot of things going on IRL, has made posting difficult for me. tbh, i've barely drawn anything since june of last year. Thank u to everyone who has still enjoyed my art that is already up, and to all the other ienzo/zexion enjoyers who like my art and are understanding. i miss kh and i hope i'll find the drive to be into it again soon. until then, the main things i've been into lately have been (N)TWEWY, omori, and hunter x hunter, so you might see stuff about that if and when i ever get my shit set back up.

i debated just not posting this and acting like it didn't happen. but not saying anything at all would be dishonest, and more importantly, i think people should be aware of the fact that fandom zines are not always a fun experience, and can actually be very stressful and exhausting for very little reward. i want to caution people before joining fandom events to vet the people running it a little bit if possible. you can't control who gets accepted to the zine, but you can control the people whose zines you sign up for. and if it sucks hit the bricks, which i did not do and should have lol

sometimes, you join a zine and put a lot of love and work into it, all you get out of it is being overworked and harassed. and then not all the finished pieces you made for the zine even ends up in it 🙃 did i mention you have to pay to get copies of the merch you yourself designed?

for the sake of my own sanity and to avoid certain people's ire im not gonna tag this in the main tags, and im also going to turn reblogs off. this is just an informational post about where i've been, what's been happening with me, and why it's hard for me to make stuff about ienzo right now. please just take it as such and don't be mean to anyone, regardless of what happened. if anyone is really burning for details i might be open to answering in DMs, but more than anything, i just want to get this out of my system (˚ ; - ; )👍

i hope i can go back to being the "funny ienzo guy" soon. until then i will continue to be the "funny emo boys in general" guy

Crazy ex girlfriend changed me in many ways

Like, I've only seen like two people talk about this but the episode names? The evolution from "Josh!" to "Josh?" to the chaos of season 3 to season 4's open ended titles??? Amazing.

The fact that it's a musical is also kind of integral part of the plot? I like musicals as they are but having the songs be essentially Rebecca's inner monologue and her interpretation of things to show how she sees the world??? Perfect. And it's linked to her development too.

Also I really like how it's both real and exaggerated, it's very fun to watch, even if the plot gets heavy. And when it gets heavy it's kind of really well done??? I still rewatch That One Scene from Josh is irrelevant. every few days. It makes me emotional even though I know all the lines and just... Dammit it's great

I honestly can't pick my favorite season, though maybe 4 since it's kind of the best season for Rebecca, idk I really enjoy seeing her get better after the mess that was season 3 (in a good way, it's probably my second favorite season)

The characters are all great too. Even the ones that only appear in one episode are very neat, and I don't even mind not seeing them more because I feel like they do have a life outside the plot.

Idk this was meant to be a "hahah, I'm now naming my chapters like CXGF episodes" post, but I can't go too long without praising the show for everything. It's just that good and everyone should experience it

I'm definitely biased as a big fan but damn, some people really don't get KH huh. And I don't mean they don't understand the plot and worldbuilding (though sure they don't get that either), I'm talking about how they're like "KH isn't about anything, there's nothing to really like about it aside from the combat and music, most people are probably in it for the nostalgia and the story isn't really a story anymore, because it has no interesting character arcs or ideas, basically KH1 and 2 were good but Nothing Else Was" and like... Okay... I don't know how to explain my exact problems with this kind of criticism but to me it feels like They Don't Understand KH. I don't know where I was going with this

Maybe my aro is showing, but I so much want canon to leave the relationships between all of the friend groups platonic or at least ambiguous. I ship characters in fanfiction, but man do the ambiguous friendships in KH games make me so happy. Like...everyone expects romance, and searches for the tiny bits--and I agree that there is a lot of chemistry between Sora and Riku in particular, and that we’re supposed to read toward SoKai.

But, I really don’t want these relationships to be defined as romantic, because there are just other forms of love that are just as strong, and each friend group holds those forms of love. And I for one kind of just...wish that society wasn’t so that I felt I’d have to have a romantic relationship to get that kind of love and warmth. I don’t want a romantic relationship, but I want intimacy and affection and love. I have one of these friend groups and I so wish that we could see each other in person.

I feel like after all they went through in the last half of KH3 and in Re:Mind, Sora would probably be pretty ticked when he finds out that Kairi got left behind again...

Well, honestly, he’d probably be upset that people are out to find him, too. The boy has no self-worth and is probably perfectly ‘happy’ thinking that they’d accept he is dead. That’s not to say that he wouldn’t try to get himself home, because he would, but he’d be so upset that people put themselves in danger for him.

But Kairi became an accepted and valued member of the team to Sora at least, and her getting left behind after he worked so hard to save her, because he needs her just as much as he needs Riku, would make him very angry.

Holy shit, I hate Yen Sid so much, but I gotta point out what I just thought about:

He did not want to be a teacher. He was retired, no longer a Master. Then Mickey comes in and forces his hand. And from there, chaos begins to reign.

It’s no wonder he doesn’t want to actively help out with things. He was retired. He wanted nothing to do with anything anymore. He doesn’t want to take the time to teach Riku and Sora anything at all. So he doesn’t. He goes ‘you should have learned how to do that, you failed’ without giving any way for Sora to have learned.

Like, he’s absolutely the shitty teacher who was forced out of retirement because no one else was left to do the job, and he embodies it. Sits back and doesn’t teach. Doesn’t help at all until the parting the heartless for the lights to proceed. He’s that shitty teacher.

I hate him, but--he didn’t sign up for this.

I still hate him. Maybe more so because hey, now he’s someone I’ve met.

So, I think that there is a difference in being bequeathed a Keyblade and inheriting a keyblade. Bequeathing needs ceremony: a promise to oneself and their heart, but also an oath to the person who is bequeathing them a keyblade. We see this in Terra and Riku.

Inheriting a keyblade is less glamorous, but just as important; it is the act of being given the ability to wield keyblade. There is less circumstance and oath, if the heart is ‘worthy’, then they gain the possibility. It is not certain they will ever summon a keyblade, but they have the potential. We see this with Aqua and Kairi. So Kairi wasn’t bequeathed a keyblade -and if she was at all, it’d be from Riku in kh2, but that is a different issue, but Riku was both bequeathed and inherited his keyblade.

Sora on the other hand inherited his keyblade from Ven, but was bequeathed by Xehanort. Which is also a fucked up circle of characters that are deeply interconnected in ways they impacted each other.

We know that Sora pitched Riku’s keyblade in kh1 because he touched Riku’s light, but he touched Ven’s light -and he was all Light, as a newborn and thus inherited the ability to wield a keyblade then as well. He was officially bequeathed by Xehanort at the end of kh3, circumstance and all.

It’s funny that Riku was firmly in the light, but Sora was in the dark. Even the light he had, Ven, was only light because Xehanort untaught Ventus how to share.

Part of me is bitter like why the heck was Kairi the only one crying at the end? Not even Riku?? Or Roxas?? Or Namine?? Or R I K U??? Nomura my boi time to except that you havent sold SoKai very well & just drop it at this point if you're going to treat all the relationships you DID build like this

(But yeah……everyone at the beach at the end being all like, “lol let’s just ignore that Sora has vanished from our lives and is possibly dead, but ehhh it’s cool, anyway who wants ice cream?” was very……..strange. Guess being made into emotionless zombies to allow certain plot points to happen hasn’t worn off yet, huh…)

(Also yeah, this whole trend of “Kairi and Sora care soooo much more about each other than anyone else bc they’re in loooove and romantic love is obvs more important than any other kind of love” that Nomura’s pushing needs to fucking stop and die tbh. Along with the idea that “uwu Kairi loves Sora more than any of his other friends or his boyfriend do bc she romantically loves him and shared a paopu fruit with him bc it’s not like riku totally shared one with him in kh1 as well oh fucking wait– so therefore her love for Sora is sooo much greater and more pure uwu”. Like give me a fucking break, tbhhhh. And like….I guess it’s technically canon that Kairi cares about Sora more than anyone else, but tbhhhhhh that’s only bc she’s barely allowed to even interact with any other characters. :/// Anyway yeah this trend fucking sucks and I hate it. :) Also let Sora have emotions about his other friends (and not just ignore Riku’s continued existence, fuuuuuck that Demon Tide scene), and let Kairi actually interact with everyone else on a meaningful level, and also like….ACTUALLY LET SORA AND KAIRI INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER FOR A TRULY WILD IDEA, is that so fucking hard, Nomura? >_>)

Genre: Starts off with a little bit of angst but ends off with fluff

Notes: Gender neutral reader || I'm being self indulgent and figured I might start posting my kh wips <3

"I don't know how you could be so much of an idiot to keep managing to do this to yourself." A heavy sigh left the yokai as he wrapped up your arm. Leave it to you to try climbing a tree that you knew didn't have any footholds.

A chagrined pout reached your face. With his tone of voice, you'd think you were being reprimanded by your parent. "Maybe you should add another thing on to the list of things you don't let me do." Your mumble wasn't exactly quiet nor were you actively attempting attempting make sure that he didn't hear you and an exasperated scowl twisted the yokai's usually impassive expression.

"Such a list wouldn't exist if you didn't insist on being so reckless. It isn't like you actually listen to me regardless." Same old, same old. Always the same lecture.

"If you're so annoyed by it, then maybe you should just stop caring. It'll save you the trouble." There was a bitterness that Tomoe wasn't used to in your voice, a stark contrast to your usually excitable and flowy attitude.

It was rare that you ever acted like this. Like anything that anyone said ever had any affect on you and that was when he knew that he may have gone too far this time. Well, not this time alone. The pressure of each lecture constantly building on top of another was bound to make you burst eventually.

He didn't mean to make you upset. He never wanted that. He just cared about you, maybe too much, like each time you got injured hurt him as well but he knew that he could be a bit harsh, even if he would never admit it out loud.

He looked up at your face which was turned away from him, scowling down at the floor, and used one hand to direct your gaze to his.

For a second he felt his heart crack at the annoyance that you directed at him before your eyes flickered back to the floor.

He had to take a breath to steady his mind. "I'm... sorry." He was almost tempted to take his words back when your eyes widened, boring into his. This was bound to be one if the first times that you had ever heard him say those words. "I was harsh and having to take the position of a god can't be easy even with a yokai like myself helping you do all of the work. I just- want you to be safe."

By the end of his apology, he was looking away from you, cheeks flushed. He was never this honest with anyone and honestly, he didn't think that he would be able to survive even another second of your staring at him like that.

He almost lost his balance when you threw yourself at him, tackling him into a hug which threw both of you to the floor. Your jovial laughter filled his ears and he found himself smiling too. For a moment at least.

"Thanks for always looking out for me, Tomoe."

A tired but relieved chuckle reverberated in his chest. Maybe he was finally getting through to you.

"Maybe next time I should take you tree climbing with me."

Never mind. You were still an idiot.
