The Good Person Of Sezwan log book.

21/3/22 - good person of sezchwan (GPOS)

On this day we started to work on the first 5 pages of are 70 page script. We worked on how we would build are environment. Are teacher decided that we all have a wooden stick each and that’s how we would show houses and buildings by showing the out line of a basic house.

We was focusing on the blocking of the opening scene of are new play and now we would learn it.

30/3/22

We finished blocking everything and getting everything down I wasn’t in on the 28th and that’s when the cast learnt that song but I quickly learned the rhythm of the song and got off the words of the song quickly to when I know my que when to start joining in on the song.

My teacher did say “we need to practice projection, clarity and diction, and we need to get off scrip over half tearm so over the Easter holidays” i I’ll be working very hard to get my ques down and to know my lines. The reason why is because we need to get of script asap so we can play around with prompts.

What happened was we went thought the first act with out script but if we didn’t know are lines then we would have a script or prompt. All I need to work on is the last scene of the first act get the lines sorted and then run through act 1 without script. I also need to start acting as the charter adding a little bit of a voice to him work on my posture as Yang sun. Another thing is that I need to work on my posture with the nephew what the family have agreed to is that we all should be hunch backed with glasses and cockney accent so throught out the Easter holiday I will be working on my character consent.

26/4/22

What we was doing today is doing a script run from scene 1 & 2 and with the line run what I found out is that I kept cutting off peoples lines when it’s coming close to my lines so I need to look back over on my lines and read the queues lines because I can’t do that in the final performance at the same time it was good that I am cutting them off at the same time because then I know my lines well and i know when to come in on my queues . Another thing is when we was doing the line run 4 time I had to ask the prompt what the line is because I thought I came in early or I haven’t learnt that line enough witch is not good considering we now have a month before the show day and I need to step up my game my going over and over these simple lines because over the holidays I was so focus on getting my other character ‘yang sun’ because there are some big lines so I need to keep it even focus on the big and small lines.

Another thing that happened is that we when threw the song ‘the song seven elephant’ and we was learning the tempo to the song and while going threw the song I saw a past song worded very different but had the same meanings and in that Yang Sun was talking threw it and and I pitched Sun walking around the factory scene watching everyone sing and making sure they do the work and I propose that idea to my teacher and he likes the idea and we’re going to play with it and see how it works in the show and in the song it says that ‘Sir Chung never laughed harder’ indicting Yang Sun so I propose to my teacher that could be a queue like for me to laugh while in the song and again he liked it and I think we’re going to play with that as well but I need to do more work on my character and about how to protray Yang Sun

Some of us agreed to do a call in the evening doing a line run off script and some of us had to fill in because other people as they wasn’t on call so the focus of the call was was muscle memory witch most of us was doing well but I did have to look at the script once because I missed a masive Chung.

28/4/22

Me and my class went on another call to go through act 2 because when are class did a run through of act 2 it was choppy and we kept asking for queue so we went all on call and I alright considering I do not know well the but in act 2 I’ve got learn 3 scenes and the wedding scene I’m almost there with learning it now what I’ve got to do now is concert on getting the second act in my head well. Also now we are at the stage were we should be off script and now using prompt just in case if you forget are lines.

What I have relised as my character is that at the beginning he is extremely dressed and wants to end his life then through out the first scene we see him become more of a pompous prat and at the end of act 1 Yang Sun at this point is the play is clearly one of the most hated people im the play. What I got from Yang Sun in the play is that Yang Sun is full of himself, he’s arrogant, selfish, disrespectful, narcissistic, deceitful, and manipulative.

I instantly got the sense of a character called Squadron leader Flasheart (black adder goes fourth) who is full of himself, arrogant and disrespectful.

Something that I will be borrowing from Flasheart is his posture… Flasheart stands very proud of himself is posture says “I’m in the room give me the attention”. I may use his voice only to try out and see how it goes with some scenes and I’m going to use the sexism from Flasheart. Another great thing on why I’m using lord Flasheart is because Yang Sun is a pilot and In Black Adder Flasheart is also a pilot so is a good time year and a good character to base it off. The problem with this is I can’t stick with Flasheart and I’ve got to switch between charters so I’ve got to get different character and analyse them to see what I can get from them.

What I have done so far for the past few day is analysing my character and what I should be taking inspiration from ‘black adder goes fourth’ and I was figuring out a voice for my character. What I took from my character is he is a vary self absorbent witch means that he only cares about himself so I added a gritty voice and make word over exaggerated.

We also start to properly block are scene because Act 2 scene 1 there is a wedding and we haven’t got the blocking for that down so I used my character and see how my character would act in the scene. I also had to asked to questions what is my character thinking in this scene and what he is thinking is “I need mr Shui Ta to hurry to give me the 300 silver dollars that he promised”

26/5/22

On Wednesday 25th May at 7:00pm ‘The Good Person Of Sezwan By Bertolt Brecht’ was played at Clarendon Sixth Form College and I was extremely nervous for it like anyone would. Before the show are class did a run threw of the show going over some stuff tweaking some stuff. When we did a run threw I dried a scene that I thought that I’d never dry on. Scene 5 in Shen Te’s tobacco shop where Yang Sun is trying to get three hundred silver dollars and I added a new line into it that I haven’t added.

YANG SUN: An old mate of mine is doing be a favour. five hundred is his price.

MR SHUTA: That’s a lot of money

YANG SUN: Not really. He got rid of the other applicants for me do you know what I mean spread a rumour here break a leg or two just between me and you alright no need to tell Shan te.

This was the like I was drying on and I have no idea why the lines just went from my head and i completely forgot what it was so I just jumped to a line that makes sense and then after I went threw it over and over and the first 2 time the words wasn’t comming to me and then the 3rd time when my scene parter was reading in as well then the lines just came back to me and it was amazing

More things that happen before the show was getting to voice of Yang Sun I wanted to add a crackling/ boisterous voice for Sun and it worked perfectly with the charter and for the nephew that I was playing for in scene 1 & 2 we (the family) added a nasal voice for the nephew and it came across that you can clearly see who Yang Sun was and who the Nephew was.

I was looking at my mma gym and I had a thought about yang. So there's this woman who doesn't look super buff until she flexes then she looks like a god damn anime character because her muscles are masive, yet she's just to gentle. Many people want to grow muscularly, to achieve that, they consume steroids, apart from those produced by the body to obtain better results.

Anabolic steroids are artificially manufactured hormones very similar to androgens, which are the male sex hormones in the body. There are more than a hundred anabolic steroids abiding. So far, the most potent androgen is testosterone, testosterone helps to refine muscle and promote the development of male features that people broad during puberty, like the change in a male's voice to a deeper tone and the growth of body hair. The concentration of testosterone can also affect the aggressiveness of the person. Athletes take anabolic steroids because their effects are very similar to those in testosterone.

We have steroid supplements, which are another group of steroids that contain dehydroepiandrosterone and also contain androstenedione. Steroid supplements are menopotent forms of androgens. Their effects are not well known, but it is believed that when taken in large doses, they can cause similar effects to other androgens, such as testosterone. What is known about steroid supplements is that the companies that manufacture them often use false claims, thus very little is known about the long-term effects that these substances have on the body. Now, how do anabolic steroids work in the body? Anabolic steroids help to stimulate muscle tissue and increase volume in response to the type of training a person performs. Anabolic steroids usually remain inside us either a couple of days or up to a year. Anabolic steroids have gained a lot of popularity, as they tend to give a lot of strength, endurance and increase in muscle mass. Steroids may give you many advantages, but too much of something is not good, as I have stated before. Now it's time for me to tell you the side effects. They are not too strong, so it is not much to worry about, and they only occur if consumed in very high doses. Can cause acne, baldness, weight gain, changes in mood, aggression, sleep problems, the likelihood of increased cardiovascular accidents and the risk of developing heart diseases. Now you know what an excessive steroid consumption can cause. It damages your body and it can get you disqualified in a competition, those are not smart ways to try to improve your athletic performance; but if you really need them, use them in low doses.
