Irregular Monday Update, Edition 14

Not a whole lot new to share, but--I've updated the demo on Itch.io, and I'm (finally!) almost done getting the Steam page set up, too!

While still concluding at the end of the first act, the demo update focuses on smaller tinkering intended to draw the game closer to final intended quality, including: edits and tweaks to the UI and some visual effects; improved night skies; and (thanks to Wudge!) John, Marybeth, and Patti all now blink.

I'm still recovering from my little spell of burnout, but should still be on track for Bright Oak to release in full sometime in the early months of 2024; I'm looking forward to sharing more soon! In the meantime, if you're looking for something new as we enter the holiday season--might I suggest marking your calendars for the December 2nd release of the Herotome Super Demo...? It's going to be awesome!

Two premises are key to The Faculty: that adolescents see adults in authority as alien figures, and that high school is an instrument for instilling social conformity. The former has been the stuff of movies since Rebel Without a Cause (Nicholas Ray, 1955). The latter is in evidence today in the efforts of states like Florida and Texas to remake education along conservative ideological lines. Unfortunately, Kevin Williamson's screenplay and Robert Rodriguez's direction don't take either premise seriously enough to make more than a raucous but routine sci-fi/horror movie out of the material. The result is exactly as the Criterion Channel describes it: "The Breakfast Club meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers." John Hughes's 1985 movie put a Jock, a Brain, a Criminal, a Princess, and a Basket Case together in detention and explored the interaction of disparate high school stereotypes. The Faculty's misfit crew is a little more complex: Stan (Shawn Hatosy), the Jock, wants to quit the team, and Zeke (Josh Hartnett) is both Brain and Criminal: He concocts his own drug (unfortunately called "scat") in his lab, selling it out of the trunk of his car, and he has an off-the-charts IQ. Elijah Wood's Casey is bullied the way Brains typically are in teen movies, and Clea DuVall's Stokely is more of a goth-punk rebel than a Basket Case. Jordana Brewster's Delilah is an overachieving Princess, both editor of the school newspaper and captain of the cheerleading squad. They are joined by a New Girl, Marybeth Louise Hutchinson (Laura Harris), a transfer from Atlanta to their Ohio high school who comes complete with a somewhat cloying Southern accent. If The Faculty had kept its focus steadily on this group as they uncover the fact that their teachers have been taken over by an extraterrestrial organism, the movie would have had more coherence and suspense. Instead, it opens with the revelation that something is clearly causing the teachers and the principal to go mad and murderous. The principal (Bebe Neuwirth) is attacked in her office by the coach (Robert Patrick), and when she tries to escape, her way is blocked by a teacher, Mrs. Olson (Piper Laurie), who suddenly turns from meek to menacing. After missing work for a day or so, the principal returns as if nothing had happened. Meanwhile, other teachers have been showing personality changes that begin to spread into the student body. It's not long before the movie begins to invoke the other half of its inspiration, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Don Siegel, 1956; Philip Kaufman, 1978). Williamson, whose screenplay for Scream (1996) was full of allusions to other horror films, can't resist making the source for The Faculty explicit, so when his teenagers cite the movie themselves and use it as a guide to fighting the alien, The Faculty becomes too meta for its own good. There's enough to enjoy in the movie, including good performances by most of the cast. Hartnett is particularly good in the role of a guy who's embarrassed by his own intelligence. It's fun to see Jon Stewart, who plays a science teacher, in one of the acting performances he likes to make fun of. But when it comes to making good on its key premises and developing a real satiric edge, The Faculty has to be called a missed opportunity.

yo, having 6k in chapter 3 is amazing. good for you!

my first playthrough i got the white arabian and i named her Lemoyne Tree as a tribute to the state of Lemoyne and my favorite post malone song Lemon Tree. But she always got super dirty so i then went to the lake next to Strawberry and tamed the red chestnut arabian. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that one, she's gorgeous and arthur always gets that one when i play it. my beautiful baby girl Diablo <3

also yes. heckin FUCK MICAH BELL. even from the beginning he's been a slime ball. hate that man <3

i won't go too far, but just keep yourself high honor towards the end of the game. you need that to be your first ending. :')

Charles deserves the absolute world. just listening to him speak and hanging out with him at camp, and the missions you continue on to do with him throughout the game are so much fun. charles is someone i wish i could have in my real life because he seems like he would be the best person to speak to and hang out with. he is so lovely and down to earth. even arthur says it a couple times throughout the game. charles gets a good ending i promise.

my top blorbos are Arthur, Dutch, Charles, Hosea, and Josiah Trelawny my absolute beloved <33333 just wait until you go on the mission with Charles to find trelawny. one of my favorite missions ever ever ever ever!!

a lot of people dislike dutch, but i love him so much. he is my actual father. i love him.

I'm back to write my RDR fanfic.

Finally. I probably can't keep up a scheduled update tho, having depressive and manec episodes, but I thought I should give some context on how the writing is in my style.

I will start writing for CoD and BG3 with the same system and that is:

This is the empty sheet I designed for RDR characters:

The story is a f!reader x Arthur but since I love Javier and Charles, also Karen and Marybeth, there are snippets on those too.

Reader is not named, mostly addressed by MC if others don't call "you" nicknames, but I had to give reader a last name for story purposes. "Prince"

There are reasons that is explained in the story.

Reader is around Arthur's age (one year or two younger or same.) since she was rescued around the same time by Hosea.

I would say tags are: eventual smut, angst, hurt/comfort, mention of SA, mention of torture, typical time period stuff, polyships, reader swings both ways, magic.

Bc there's magic in rdr world, let's be honest.

I won't know if reader would succeed in saving characters from their death, I'll find out with you guys, lol.

I've mixed few rpg systems I knew of, like D&D, Pathfinder, Prowlers & Paragons (P&P) and etc.

If you like to see the checks on the fic, then tell me here so I don't delete them in editing phase.

I'll make CoD charactersheet once I start writing for it too, but not yet. BG3 already has charactersheet so I just adjust everybody to my story bc I hate point buy, or standard array it used.

Skimbleshanks Family tree based on my headcanons!

His first Mate was a queen named Russu . She sadly passed away. His second mate was Tabby girl who he had Bombaulrina, Calico, Mungojerrie and Rumpltezaer with. Skimbleshanks has a sister named Rose. Her mate is a Tom named Charlie and have a son named Loki(there all nameless swing character that I gave name's including Russu). Demeter had Electra and Jemima with Macavity and had Sillabub with Munkastrap. Bombaulrina had AJ with Coricopat. Calico had Autumn. In the future Rumpltezaer will have Alice with Victoria and Electra will have Marybeth(oc) and Lightning Electra with Etcetera.
