All these guys having amazing chemistry with their besties whom they adore in real life…what like it’s hard? Martin Freeman and Benedict cumberbatch had this website in their grip for years and they didn’t even like each other irl. Now THAT is acting.

If you had to pick a top three favorite episodes of any panel shows EVER, which would you choose? One of mine would have to be Terry Wogan guest hosting old NMTB, which I am dying to watch again in my lifetime. Your old-NMTB-posting reminded me just how amazing and formative those old episodes were for me. Anyway, it got me thinking… I would love to hear yours!
as long as i'm allowed to answer this totally subjectively...! because the objectively most iconic panel show episodes are probably quite different to the ones i gravitate to especially for rewatching — and especially in this difficult recent climate 🫥
this choice is almost bizarre knowing me, a huge huge huge sean lock fan, but this episode of cats does countdown — without sean! and not even golden era, probably, whatever that is in my mind — is so ridiculous and chaotic and stupid that i've watched it about 1000 times. there's something very specific about the dynamic between jimmy, jon, roisin, and joe without sean; those four have been in quite a few episodes without sean and they're like actual children without an adult in the room: jon is goofier and completely lets go of the game, jimmy throws even more to roisin (we do not talk enough about what a fucking kick jimmy gets out of her), roisin and joe's insane sibling dynamic becomes next level. anyways—this episode, which includes rly funny mascots, glory hole, the fucking hoop game and joe eating an onion and jon eating peppers???, THE UNICORN, its sheer childishness just cracks me up every time :') (if we're gonna mention the golden age, 2.02 is very iconic — from rhod killin it and always arguing with jimmy to claude to nick x susie hahaha but i have sooooo many catsdown episodes i love love love)
i really love the episode of 8 out of 10 cats following jimmy's tax scandal. it's not one of my favourite panel shows in general, but the circumstances of the news and the discussion epitomised what the show was meant to be: panel show meets reality tv meets a comedy central roast. watching that live, as the news was running it so heavily that even the prime minister mentioned it, as the press and twitter were reacting to it... wild times. it holds up incredibly well — it's hilarious watching them rip him to shreds, because he deserves every word and they're having a ball doing it to him, and i really appreciate jon grounding the conversation in just how tax avoidance hurts their country and some of its hardest workers — a really interesting, engaging mix of comedy and anger and wit and disappointment and political commentary that is not only funny but strikingly relevant no matter how much time passes. like so, so many people who were so, so disappointed in jimmy, this was the foundation of his carrying the responsibility, shame, reflection, and growth that people wanted to see — and that he truly needed to. since then he's talked a lot about not only righting the wrong (in paying back what he owed in avoidance) but just how the system is so broken — and taking the least complicated, most honest road forward since.
now i want to pick 1000 different things this is why i don't make lists or rank things!!!!! while my instinct is to pick a big fat quiz, i'm actually gonna go top-level nostalgia and say this episode of buzzcocks when stephen fry was a guest. what can i say — simon, stephen, it was two intellectual, mildly bitchy homosexuals on a stacked panel including josie long, dominic cooper, and yet another skinny white rock man for simon to pretend he's not trying to flirt with. stephen saying "there is a history, in pop music, of recto-veginal insertion" and denouncing god, like, in the first 5 minutes? stephen doing the intros round?? did i mention history boys-era dominic cooper??? such a throwback!!! (not to cheat but this ep with josh groban & martin freeman is my runner up)
i want to apologise to big fat quiz, taskmaster, wilty... THE WHOLE HISTORY OF PANEL SHOWS... I WISH I COULD CHOOSE YOU ALL

'Miller's Girl' (2024)
Didn't have great expectations watching this but holy. shit.
I don't want to spoil anything but god it made me relive a lot, I don't really like Martin Freeman but I thought he was brilliant in this role. Jenna Ortega was amazing, wow.
Really hit hard when 'Lover, You should've come over', Jeff Buckley - came on, I mean that song I have tied to so many memories of my TC, and the scene of them two in the rain? Ugh!

Look, I know the Hobbit films aren’t considered amazing by many folks, and I get it. They have a lot of flaws. But see, I fell for Bagginshield before even watching the films. I watched the Hobbit movies because I shipped Bagginshield, not the other way around.
It’s a ship that literally sells it’self based solely on fanart and gif sets and size difference and grumpy one/sunshine one/enemies to lovers. PLUS Richard Armitage (take me, Richard Armitage), PLUS PLUS Martin Freeman (just always have Martin Freeman around, gazing up at a hot, obnoxious twat in a special coat. It works so well with him). Come on! What’s not to ship! It’s like someone drew a pentagram on the floor, lit some candles, and summoned me with irresistible Sally catnip. So, in addition to the fact that I ship the fuck out of Kiliel, and the fact that those dwarves are all amazing characters, I really was in it for the 8 hour, 700 million dollar budgeted slow burn fanfiction movie extravaganza of my new favorite ship. It ends with Bilbo sobbing, and clinging to Thorin, begging him not to die, as Thorin confesses his love for Bilbo in the most devastatingly romantic way possible.
So I’m a big fan.

It's fascinating that sometimes John appears to be a big presence and other times he looks tiny. Like in s1e3 when he collapsed and squatted against the stall in the pool scene, he looked bundle-sized; also in s3e1 at the restaurant, when he was straddling Sherlock trying to strangle him, he looked just like a bundle placed on Sherlock's lap, a furious bundle, of course, lol! Mr. Freeman is a great actor.
Hey Nonny!
OOOOF AGREED!!! Martin is SO GOOD at projecting himself as a big man in a small package (Google says he's 5'7"), and he's ALSO good at "being small" if the scene calls for it. Martin is a great actor, and I'm SO glad he was our John Watson! Because I don't SEE Martin, I see JOHN. It's amazing.

when John says "no he's MY friend" after Sherlock dies 😭😭
guys i am not okay. he cares so much about him, more than anyone else in the world at that point, and he fights so hard to get to him, because the doctors must be lying, he must have a pulse because Sherlock Holmes cannot be dead. its an impossibility. John's soldier façade finally drops, and we see John's raw emotion for possibly the first time in the show. the soldier finally breaks. guys i am really not okay.

"Wow, thank you BAFTA. Uh, first of all, I'd like to congratulate the other incredible actors in the category, Stephen Rae and Joseph Mawle, and of course Mr. Martin Freeman, who is a brilliant actor and colleague and human being. Uh, I'd like to thank, uh, Paul McGuigan and Toby Hayes, our directors this year, and Stephen Thompson who wrote The Reichenbach Fall, and our brilliant crew, and uh, Kate Rose James for amazing cast which has been led by the exceptionally talented Mr Benedict Cumberbatch, who I feel so proud to have opposite - acted opposite.
I'd like to thank my mum and dad, and Sarah and Hannah, and Stephen, and uh, Lindy King and her team, and all my friends who will be screaming at the television now, and my family. But most especially, I'd like to thank uh, Beryl Virtue and uh, Sue Virtue and Elaine Cameron, and of course Steve Moffat and Mark Gatiss uh, for, for creating this in - incredible series. Um, I was very grateful to be asked to play the part and I'm totally thrilled, uh, thank you so much, have a lovely evening."
"I'm totally shaken, I'm going to fall on top of you Kate in a second, please don't be - let's do it. Uh, yeah, I feel like I'm about going to fall over - what a shock."
"I really - I really wasn't. I really, really wasn't. Uh, yeah, God no, I wasn't at all."
"The evil was won through, yeah - exactly, yeah. Well, exactly. Well, uh, it's now with Martin now - now, now our BAFTAs are enemies - our, our BAFTAs can, can face, face off, yeah."
"Do you know what? I, I felt really, really sort of emotional because I, I suppose I was thinking about my parents, you know? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's, it's incredible because, uh, I think you sort of start off and, uh, yeah, you never dream of it, and - and my, my folks were terribly good at, uh you know, not being too worried all the time and um - that I hadn't got a proper job and they didn't say: 'You have to have something to fall back on' and, but you know, I, you know, but I did work at Tesco for a while so you know (Kate: Every little helps) - come on baby!" (high five)
"Thank you so much, Kate, thanks very - oh listen, I can't wait, I can't wait not to be hot - take off this jacket, drink some champagne. Amazing, amazing."

Petite. I have to tell you that you are my favorite artist. Your style is so distinct. Gorgeous. Often breathtaking. And I also have to say out of all the art(ists) I've seen that you alone capture Dean/Jensen perfectly. Jared too but Jensen is the one who most people just can't quite get it right. You capture his essence. Is that the word? Soul? His je ne sais quoi.
Hi anon!
Thank you so much for your amazing feedback about my work in general and my Dean/Jensen artworks in particular, it's very kind of you. 💗
And I also have to say out of all the art(ists) I've seen that you alone capture Dean/Jensen perfectly
Oh, there are lots of great artists out there who drew/draw amazing Dean art. Sadly, some of them are not active anymore but thanks to "reblogs" you still have beautiful Dean artworks that "capture his essence" floating around. You had a lot on Live Journal back in the days too but these are not available anymore unfortunately because the sites that were hosting all these great drawings are now long gone and 90% of the links are broken. 😔
But otherwise, maybe I'm not too bad at drawing Dean because…I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AND I DREW HIM ONE HUNDRED TIMES ? 😂😂 Don't get me wrong, I love Sam too, but Dean ? There's something about him. But yes, I agree, Jensen's face is a bit hard to draw sometimes, beautiful but tricky: the bridge of his nose, his eyes, his lower lip. I'm happy when I get his likeness right! Same with John Watson (Martin Freeman), they are both quite tricky to draw in my opinion. You may think that "a face is a face" but sometimes, no. Well, for me anyway. 😂 I think that some people are easier to draw than other even if you use the same technique to draw them and that you have experience.
I'm digressing once again…🙃 Thanks again and have a great weekend.

Filming gets underway for BBC’s The Responder 2
(…) Some exciting new additions to the cast of the second series include Adam Nagaitis (The Terror; Chernobyl), Bernard Hill (Wolf Hall; Lord of the Rings (Theoden) Titanic) and Ian Puleston-Davies (Tin Star; Pennyworth).
Speaking about the latest series, Tony Schumacher said: “Throwing myself back into the world of The Responder has been such a ride over this last year or so. Gathering the characters old and new around me has been a delight, and finally getting to see these people brought to life by so many incredible people fills me with genuine excitement. I just can’t wait for you to see them too!”
Toby Bruce, Executive Producer for Dancing Ledge Productions, added: “It’s such an incredible joy, and privilege, to be back working with Tony’s magic scripts, continuing the stories of characters we’ve all fallen in love with. Martin Freeman as Chris, and Adelayo as Rachel, both have the ability to be emotional lightning rods and we couldn’t be more excited to bring them, and the rest of our amazing cast, back together.”
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, says: “Series one of The Responder gave us a bold and thrilling new take on the police drama, winning five-star reviews and millions of fans on BBC One and iPlayer in the process. It’s a joy to once again partner with Tony, Martin, Adelayo and such a fantastic team to see what’s next for Chris and Rachel.” (…)

Happy 52nd Birthday, Martin Freeman! (September 8, 1971)
I’m under no illusion that I’m an amazing… you know, I’m not Arthur Miller. I’m not going to be a great, great writer. What I do trust is my taste. ( x )

Okay so just saw Wakanda Forever and I have several? thoughts
Fucking gorgeous. Beautiful. Amazing.
I actually started crying during the opening sequence. Only time it happened, but damn does it hit you right out of the gate.
The length kind of got me but it's pretty forgivable given the substance it contained
Michael B. Jordan, I was not expecting you, but damn if I wasn't excited
I mean I was literally bouncing in my seat during that scene
Namor's character was phenomenally written and played out, like god damn the Black Panther movies have far and away the best villains in the MCU
This is absolutely just a me thing but the moral complexities in this story are so well layered that there were several times I had an inner debate about the most moral paths for Shuri to take
I'm glad that Shuri didn't end up Queen, I don't think ruling the nation would be something she ever wants to do
The character arcs all felt very natural
The pure, unfiltered grief in Wakanda forever is phenomenal and radiated around the whole theater, by far the saddest MCU movie
Martin Freeman, you are so useless, ily
Ngl, Ramonda's death was the biggest curveball, and tbh it would've stung more if she had been more developed in the first movie
It was fitting to have Okoye move on from the Dora Milaje, like yes they are a part of you, but with everything you've been through - literally leading Wakanda through the Blip - you can clearly grow beyond them
And I feel like we could've seen more of Riri, though we know she's got a future in the MCU so it's easy to let go of
The fight choreography was? immaculate
Everything about Talokan was amazing
As for awards, I'm betting on several: SFX, Cinematography, Score, Adapted Screenplay, Supporting Actor (Huerta)
Overall the best MCU film - best MCU thing frankly - to come out since Endgame, I'd say it's an 8.8/10

anon this is so exciting for you!!! we all wish we could watch tm for the first time again!!! hehehe
you may be pleased to know s04 is a great fan favourite, as is...most of the first five series 🥹 i have a ridiculous soft spot for s02, which is pretty tragic since it was so short. in the beginning, in general, the contestants didn't quite understand the full potential of the format, didn't realise all of the lateral thinking they could do, didn't try or want to push the rules — so there's something just so stupid about it, like they really just let alex push them around and laugh at them, and that was so funny. now, there are a lot more rules, certain elements can be tired, the writing team has to work hard so it's not formulaic, etc. still an amazing programme, in HUGE parts thanks to 1) alex and 2) their editor rachel (we stan!!!), but the wide-eyedness of the earliest series are unbeatable in some regards imo. that said, we've had some great recent series, 14 being the the most recent fan fave imo!
btw don't forget to watch the nye and champion of champions specials if you're not already!! they're so silly heh junior taskmaster is also coming up!!
i watched the first series of the nz version recently and i just...idk i may be a purist, but it's been hard for me to get into it. the contestants are really great
— except for, you know...you know what. now i can say it. this is my time to say it. i am so angry about a grown white man in all red and these disgusting THIN little 🤢flip flops🤢
Tumblr media
like how dare you wear those abominations on your feet. how dare you make me look at this. anon you're a kiwi so maybe you know this man and maybe next time you see him at the supermarket let him know panelshowsource from tumblr is so mad at him istg. i am genuinely fuming sfhdfkgrd —
but it was a bit predictable, especially with paul not finding his own character right off the bat. that said, i hear it gets even better with series 2 so i need to try it! otherwise, people seem to like the denmark version as well! i want to try that one out :)
Tumblr media
i think ed has proven in over ten episodes of the podcast that he makes the utmost effort to use mae's pronouns; i can only recall noticing a slip-up once so imo it's exceptionally rare. mae has also commented on this directly and is very understanding to people who are still adjusting to the language. that said, i am sorry if ed's mistakes made you uncomfortable and if you want to shoot them an email with a suggestion then i don't why you couldn't/shouldn't. that said, i don't think you need to be concerned there's any maliciousness or laziness on the podcast's part because it really does seem they care x
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ugh i can only HOPE and PRAY and DREAM and FANTASTISE we get miles on tm actually let's all do a collective sigh of disappointment that we couldn't get miles/frankie on the same season...
i'm usually not one for making predictions because i'm just so remarkably wrong so much of the time, but in my mind there are only two routes for miles: he'll either speedrun the entire thing dara ó briain style
— hold that thought did you guys know one of alex's sons is called dara? i just learned that the other day and i was like wow. okay back to the sentence i was writing —
or he'll flop in the most paddington bear way à la john kearns. i don't see a middle of the road for our guy. interestingly, i just listened to the tm podcast episode with the show director andy devonshire, and he and ed were saying that taskmaster isn't a place for characters: that you come into the show and end up having to be yourself (hence why ed was a competitive maniac muahaha). we've seen miles in really intelligent dynamics, and he can be both witty and unseriously goofy in them, but i'm not sure i've seen enough of him trapped with his own thoughts to know just how he'd perform heh
another thing ed mentioned on the podcast with andy d was his belief that greg is biased towards the older contestants (something like "they talk about being tired and greg simply relates to that — even though greg is not a tired old man and actually has a very youthful energy"; which i love, because it's so fascinating to me how often we forget / people don't realise greg's age because he just fits into any age group so seamlessly), so it makes me wonder if greg wouldn't lovingly bully miles and would actually find him charming/cute
sigh [picks up phone to call alex] let me see i can make this happen

LMAOOO like 5 minutes after the movie released one of my besties called me and was like "sarah. listen to me. rob brydon is sugar daddy ken. this is not a joke. this is code red. this is code. red."
