You’re not one to go out and party. You’re especially not one who likes to go party with footballers. Having been able to talk your way out of following Mapi’s footsteps, you quite prefer treating people’s injuries than kicking balls around a field.

But you love your sister and cave incredibly quickly when she pokes and prods so here you are, willingly going to a bar where Mapi and all of her friends will be.

You haven’t had a night out in a while, residency doing a great job of kicking your ass, so although you’re not the biggest fan of how loud Mapi’s teammates can be, you are looking forward to kicking back and getting a drink.

Fate has other plans, however.

There’s a stunning brunette sitting in the corner of the bar when you walk in.

Your eyes are instantly drawn to her, the stranger so captivating despite not doing much to really capture your attention. You’re only half paying attention to the words being spoken to you when you catch her giving a shy smile to her companion’s words. At that moment you know you’re going to talk to her sometime tonight if it’s the last thing you do.

Ignoring the cries of your name and the beaming smiles of your friends, you beeline for the bar top, sliding into the seat beside the brunette. The girl blinks when she notices your presence but gives you a small smile all the same.

“Hola.” You give her a smile back in response, quickly turning to give your order to the bartender.

Ona can’t help but stare when you take a seat next to her.

You look oddly familiar but she can’t place where she’s seen you before. Something about you makes her want to get to know you more. Even just the quiet rumble of your voice when you order your drink from the bartender makes her want to make you say more words, just so she can admire your voice some more.

“I’m Ona,” she supplies, hoping you don’t recognize her. Sometimes being a public figure meant having no privacy. Given that she’s in a bar with all the other Barcelona girls, however, well that was just asking for people’s attention.

But you don’t act like you’re starstruck nor do you ask for her last name, so she takes it as a win as you simply give her your name back in response.

The soft smile that accompanies your introduction makes her heart feel funny.

“What brings you all the way out here?”

Ona shrugs, fiddling with the drink in her hand. “My friends wanted to come out after prac-- after the long day we’ve had and all but dragged me out with them.”

Ona hopes you don’t catch her slip up, but you carry on as if you didn’t.

“Oh, tell me about it. I’m only here because my sister begged me to do so. Really pulled the guilt trippy ‘I haven’t seen you in so long’ to do it.”

Ona can’t help but laugh at the face you pull, but she can tell how much you love your sister by the warmth still in your eyes.

The two of you stay locked in conversation for a while. You’ve gotten your drink and finished it, even offered to buy Ona one of her own. She pretends not to stare at your exposed midriff when you reach a hand up to get the bartender’s attention.

You’re fun to talk to, goofy smile always making her heart feel lighter and lighter, and before long Ona realizes you’ve been talking for almost half an hour. By now the defender is quite surprised that none of her teammates have come by to get her. After all, it was some of the older girls who wanted to come out to the bar to bond some more as a team, but then again Patri was always going on and on about how Ona needed to go out and meet some new girls, so maybe her friend was doing a good job keeping everyone else alway.

For the first time Ona’s quite glad her friend’s so invested in her lovelife.

Surprisingly the first person to get called away isn’t her, but you.

You’ve just started on a story about your first day on the job when a voice calls out, interrupting your conversation. “Bebé León!”

The words are sung out, and you roll your eyes, snapping back without looking away. “What do you want?”

At the same time Ona’s eyes have grown wide. León? You couldn’t be… Mapi’s sister now, could you?

By now the body the voice belongs to comes swinging in, wrapping your body in a tight vice-like grip. You’re squirming, unable to throw off your captor.

“When did you sneak in?”

Speak of the devil.

With Mapi putting you in a headlock, your faces side by side, Ona can really see the resemblance.

“Tana dropped me off earlier, you loser,” you huff, still trying but failing to get out of Mapi’s grip. Despite pretending not to like any of Mapi’s friends, you have gotten quite close to a couple of them.

Mapi blinks, remembering how Aitana had showed up a while back, a little late but none the wiser. The younger girl hadn’t said anything about having given you a ride, but now that she sees you wrapped up in conversation with Ona… well it would make sense that Aitana wanted to let you get acquainted with the younger girl without any disruptions.

Letting you go, Mapi steals your drink out of your hand. She ignores your cry of protest, simply giving Ona a wide grin.

“I see you’ve met the new blood,” Mapi hums.

You frown, eyes darting between your sister and Ona. “What?”

“Ona here just signed her contract with Barcelona.”

There’s a brief pause in the conversation as you blink slowly, almost as if you can’t believe what Mapi has just said.

“You don’t say.”

Ona doesn’t think she’s imagining anything when she catches a hint of disappointment in your voice.

“Well let me be the first to congratulate you on your new contract.” You seem to shake off the disappointment quickly, stealing your drink out of Mapi’s hands to clink it with Ona’s.

“I don’t think you’re the first,” Mapi begins, but you push at her shoulders, shushing her.

Ona laughs at your sibling shenanigans, happily tapping her drink against yours.

Mapi’s presence seems to get everyone else’s attention. Soon, most of the other Barca girls gather, voicing their excitement to see you again. You take all the attention like a pro, joking around with all the other girls as if you’re one of them yourself. Ona notices Patri winking at her from behind your head more than a couple times, but she simply blushes, always quick to avert her eyes from the midfielder.

Despite moving from the counter to a little booth near the back of the bar, you stay by Ona’s side. More than a couple times the girls try to get you to go dancing with them on the dance floor, but you always decline, somehow always having a drink in hand as an excuse.

Later, when Mapi’s gone and all the attention has slid away from the two of you, you sigh out a tiny breath. Ona’s attention is quickly back onto you, noting the way your eyes are fixed on your drink.

“It’s such a shame,” you tsk, finger tracing the rim of your cup.

Ona’s eyes are transfixed, following the movement of your fingers. She bites at her lip when she realizes what she’s doing, clearing her throat in embarrassment. “What’s that?”

“It’s such a shame that you’re playing for Barcelona,” you explain, eyebrow raising in amusement when you catch her flustered expression. “I have a strict no footballers policy. Especially footballers who are on the same team as my sister.”

Ona blinks, a wave of disappointment instantly washing over her. It’s been a while since she’s found someone so interesting, someone she’d be willing to try going out with, but to find out you have a rule against footballers?

It takes you bumping her arm with yours for Ona to look up again. She’s met with a soft smile, something undecipherable sparkling in your eyes.

“I suppose I can make an exception though.”

Ona’s mouth drops open without her meaning to, though she’s quick to close it, hoping the surprise isn’t too obvious on her face. She clears her throat, smile slowly creeping back onto her face. “I won’t tell if you won’t,” she winks.

Your laugh sounds like bells in her ears. You lean in close to her, hand slipping down into her own. “That’s the spirit.”

When you slip out of the bar minutes later, neither of you notice the brown eyes following you out the door.

“Mapi?! What are you-- Get out!”

A couple weeks later Ona’s shaken out of her slumber by a sharp voice.

Nothing can prepare her for the smug look on Mapi’s face when she stumbles out of your room, shirt and sweats borrowed from your closet. Not even the coffee shoved into her hands nor the apologetic smile on Ingrid’s face is enough to quell the embarrassment of being caught naked in your bed.

“Thought you didn’t date footballers,” Mapi teases, ignoring the look both you and Ingrid shoot her way.

“Ingrid’s about to not date a footballer if you don’t shut your mouth,” you mutter, the threat clear in your voice.

Ona’s left sitting next to Ingrid with wide eyes when Mapi tackles you to the ground, the two of you instantly fighting to get the upper hand.

“You’ll get used to it,” is the only advice she’s given by Ingrid, the Norwegian sitting back and turning on your television as if León sister scuffles are a daily occurrence.

It doesn’t take long for Ona to find out they are indeed a daily occurrence.

Just Know That I Got You (Leila Ouahabi X Reader)

“Uhhhmm” she scratched her head “I’m trying to think of the right thing to say” Those were the only words your remembered after your girlfriend of 3 years dumped you. Leila was not only your girlfriend but your best friend so when the break up happened a part of you was lost. It hurt seeing her face every time at practice or games as you were teammates in Barcelona. It hurt even more when she got into a new relationship with a national teammate Misa Rodriguez. Leila treated Misa like the love of her life, someone who she could be public with on Instagram. Unlike your relationship with Leila it was very private.

The only ones who knew you were dating were your teammates from both club and national. It was depressing seeing Leila happy in a new relationship. She would talk about her new girlfriend almost all the time to Jenni and Mapi. She felt so cold towards you whenever training together. Never passing the ball or looking in your direction. After 2 months of dealing with it you requested a transfer and it was granted. Atlético Madrid offered a 2 year contract with the money you deserved. Accepting the offer you left saying goodbye to everyone except Leila.

One month Later…

“Y/n, you have been called up to the national team” your manager announced. “Pack your bags you leave tomorrow” Being called up to the national team was always something special for you. Normally, you would be excited but this time you weren’t. Nervous to see your ex-girlfriend you weren’t sure how it would go. Mostly because you still had mixed feelings for her but knowing she’s in a relationship you know it’s not the best to say anything you’ll regret.

Arriving at the national team camp with a few of the girls from Atlético and Real Madrid you all pose for a picture. “Smile more!” Lola Gallardo picks at you. Heading inside the facility “I’m ready to train” you say walking to your room. “You’re always ready to train” she chuckles. Setting your bags on your bed you change into the national team uniforms they provide for the team. “Let’s go downstairs and eat” Lola opens the door. Meeting and talking to everyone at lunch everything is going well. “So how’s England?” You ask Ona Batlle. “Good. We have been doing fine so far.” Eating her lunch. “Hello, good day to you sir. How are you?” Jenni attempts to speak English to Ona with an English accent. You laugh at her being stupid Ona does the same “dude you sound goofy as hell” she says with everyone laughing at Jenni. “My English isn’t bad, no?” Jenni laughs looking for an answer. You laugh again when you see Leila walk in with Misa. Done with eating your food you stop laughing and look at your empty plate. “Hey Leila!” Ona calls for her. Getting up from the table “I need to go stretch” you walk out of the cafeteria into a hallway. Jenni picked up on your reaction and followed after you.

“Hey what’s up?” She leans against the wall. Stretching your legs you look up at her “nothing’s up…why?” Knowing Jenni already knew “Look y/n, i understand the break up was not good but you need to not let whatever happened get to you.” You sigh listening to Jenni “I can’t see her. It’s weird.” Expressing to Jenni. “It’s not weird if you don’t make it that way. Talk to her today and get it over with. We need to keep up good chemistry in this team.” Jenni walks back into the cafeteria. She was right, you needed to talk to Leila. “I’ll talk to her later” saying to yourself. Later on walking back to your room to shower after practice you hear your name being called. Turning around to see Leila she looks nervous but asks to speak to you in your room. “Sure” opening your door to let you both in. You sit on your bed and she sits across on the other bed. “I’m sorry if I haven’t been the best towards you” Leila brushed her hand in her hair. “Don’t worry about it” not wanting her to feel anymore bad. “After the breakup I felt bad I wanted to tell you I would always be there for you but you avoided me” she looks into your eyes. Avoided her? What was she talking about? She avoided you and gave you the cold shoulder at practice back in Barcelona.

“Leila, you avoided me. At practice you never offered me the ball or nothing.” Shocked, she would say it was you. “Well yeah because you were doing the same” lifting her shoulders and shaking her head. “Is that why you left Barça?” She asked. You look at her in her eyes “pretty much” hearing that she shakes her head again. “I was hurt and thought I could heal not seeing you anymore but-” she interrupts “you didn’t”. “Yeah” you muttered awkwardly sitting on the bed. Leila grabs your hands and holds them “I’ll always love you. Whether you're my ex or a friend or even a teammate. But don’t let what happened in the past get you down.” A tear falls down your face and Leila wipes it off. “Let’s move on from this and enjoy a beautiful friendship. What do you say?” She smiles. You smile back “I would like that a lot. Thanks.” You give her a hug and she pats your back. “Ugh I smell like outside” pulling away from Leila. “Same I need to go shower” you both laugh “I’ll see you later” she walks to the door. You open it for her “see you later too” you smile then let her out.

Exploradoras Vol. II, part 1. Mapi & Ingrid weekend adventures, February 18-19, 2023. They went to Cadaqués, which is about 106 miles (170 km) north of Barcelona (2 hour drive). This is a Catalan town on a bay in the middle of the Cap de Creus peninsula, on the Costa Brava of the Mediterranean sea.

Mapi always looks so happy, especially whenever she is with Ingrid. Her smile kills me.

The geology here is unique. The rocks here were pushed up when the Pyrenees were formed, and are mostly metamorphic schists which turn a golden color in the Mediterranean sun. Add to that the weather: this is one of the wildest spots on the Costa Brava in the winter (Costa Brava means "wild coast"), so the migmatites and schists are battered and eroded by the Tramuntana wind which whips off the mountains and by a sea that appears as if it is boiling in the force 8 winds. The Cadaqués migmatites formed under extreme pressure and temperatures: a partial melt. They are halfway between an igneous and metamorphic rock. It also has the easternmost point in Spain / the Iberian peninsula.

There is strong art history in this area as well. Salvador Dalí lived here, as well as Pablo Picasso and several other artists.

What inspired KO/Sonnett? I mean, we've seen Soran around, but not very many good Fics of that pairing.

That you can blame on blak0tyler. She started writing them, and I was like “I don’t really ship it because I think they’re too similar, but I love your writing, so I’ll read” and then by the end of the fic I was like “Damn, I kinda see it now.” I think for me it’s partially just that I really enjoy writing both characters (or did anyway). It’s fun to write characters that on the surface can be snide or sarcastic or goofy, but then underneath can have more layers and provide other things to a fic.

Hi there musingpredeliction. I think it’s hard for me to have angsty ideas for Preath, and I’m likely to still have happy endings. I was just talking to someone last night about how real life can be hard and can suck so when I turn to fiction, I want it to at least be hopeful, to do things like make me believe in true love (though I am one of the lucky ones that has found that in real life), make me believe in happy endings and beautiful lives, make me believe in magic. If you’d like more angst, I suggest reading more of my Soran or So’hara

Favorite WOSO person IRL? Favorite one to write?

IRL? Idk. It’s hard to judge when I don’t actually know any in real life. Rose holds a special place in my heart. Tobin’s footwork is magic and her laid back, goofy personality makes me swoon. Christen is the epitome of beauty to me both physically and just who she is (or at least who she shows us publicly). I honestly love so many of them. Sonny, KO (yes, still, though I am disappointed and hope she learns and grows), Julie, CRYSTAL!! Moving on from the USWNT, I’m a big fan of Emily Menges (one of the league’s most underrated defenders), Simone Charley, Midge Purce, Jennifer Cujoe, Sarah Gorden, Yuki Nagasato, Casey Short, Ali Riley, the list goes on. Lol. And on a more international player level: Tiane Endler, Mapi Leon, Jenni Hermoso, Sam Kerr, Hayley Raso, (actually a bunch of the Aussies), Vivianne Miedema, and so many more.

Favorite one to write is a bit easier: Emily Sonnett.

is with fandom culture that she is having a problem or the preath fandom specifically? also, i really love her writing, for both preath and soran so i hope that, if she retires, she doesn't delete her work, please! and man, the kelley situation, it's been really hard for us readers and for the writers…

Here’s the thing: part of what I have a problem with about Kelley is the fandom’s response to her. I’m disappointed by her not kneeling. I think she really needs to have more hard conversations and examine why she stood apart from game one and hopefully learn and grow. I’m disappointed in the culture of cancelling someone because they don’t learn and grow on the timeline you see fit, though. That now people will write off entire stories because a CHARACTER version of Kelley (that the authors have created themselves, let’s not forget), is part of it even if those stories were begun before the tournament happened. That her kneeling or not discounts her skill on the field or her actions off the field that we’re unaware of. Again, we only see a part of them, what they publicly show us, and I am very disappointed that she didn’t show us her kneeling for the anthem beyond game one, but I’m also aware that she may be taking steps I have no idea about. I’m not trying to start a discourse, though I’m sure this will, but that’s part of my issue. And then there’s the trickiness that comes of being part of an RPS/RPF fandom, where there’s the distinction between fiction and reality, between what we’d like to be true and what we 100% know. I don’t mean to cast aspersions. I’m not here to judge you anymore than I’m here to judge them.

What brought you to Preathfics, or rather just the WOSO fanfic community in general?

I have always been a soccer fan. I played through high school. But fanfic you can thank lesbianrobinhood for. I was not looking for a new fandom, but she dragged me kicking and screaming anyway. It’s usually the way.

What pairing do you most enjoy writing for? Why?

Hmmm...That depends on what I’m in the mood for. I like writing Soran or So’Hara if I’m feeling angsty or Preath if I’m not, but really it’s more about the individual story than the pairing: which idea captures my attention most in a moment. That said, as I said in another answer: I love writing Sonny, so if I get to write her, even if she’s just the supporting friend to Preath, I am a happy person.

Do you have a favorite fic? Can you make a list like Preathfics did of your faves?

Oooh, ummm...I mean anything by Blake0tyler for sure. I could (and have) read her stuff over and over and over. I love, love, LOVE Here I Am (Signed, Sealed, Delivered), by freshtilapia. I really enjoy The Restaurant by little_oblivion for a great ensemble piece. The One Where Everyone Finds Out is another great one (and all of LittleDanvers’s stuff really). I love the imagery in Portrait of a Soccer Player on Fire by restlessvirtue. Entwined by superdupergust is very good (and hot). And for non-preath one of my faves is unbecomings (but their stuff is locked).

Do you have a favorite fic that you've written before?

Like of my own? Umm...The Time Between or Orlando is Only Home When It Has You, although so far I really like something that is as yet unpublished, and I’m enjoying the way folklore is turning out with JustCrushALot.

Can you ask her why did she suddenly decide to update orgasm fic?

….Should I not? I have a hard time writing smut. I have to be in the right mindset and I haven’t been there in a while, but then I was, so I was like “Let me try” and it worked out.

are you planning on writing anymore explicit preath fics/oneshots?! The one up rn are soooo good!!

Umm...that depends. If I get the inspiration, then yes, certainly, I wouldn’t rule it out. Also I have a bet right now with blake0tyler about something which should result in smut from one of us at least.

To the amazing author of Worth a Thousand words: the story is beautifully written, it's funny, sweet and different from other fics. I totally get the KO thing and I do agree with you on that one but know that it's a fantastic story. (Everything you write is)❤️

Thank you, I appreciate that. I mean, I think in all fandoms there is a toxic element, but as this is the only fandom I’m currently active in, it’s this one. And it’s not all of you, please don’t think that. I sort of explained in another ask.

I just love Heath17_KO5's stories and everything they contribute. Is there any chance the author will pursue Beacon of Light? No pressure or anything. I just thought it had such a sweet premise. And I am a sucker for a good storm story :D

I am working on chapter 2, it’s just slow going.
