Baby Sister
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi guys!
This one is from resquets, lot of them actually. I hope you will enjoy this ficlet :)
TW : Jealousy, secret relationship, Reader is Jenni Hermoso's little sister.
PART 2 IS HERE!
_____________________________________________________________
Being Jenni Hermoso’s little sister has always been a great pride for you. You wear your last name with great happiness and you have always attended all the matches you could see. You have never missed any of his important matches, whether with the Barça team or the Spanish national team. This summer, you even made the trip to attend each stage of the competition, until seeing her lift the trophy at the finale.
What happened after and around this victory, you’d rather not talk about. This story makes you green with rage and you sincerely believe that if you had faced these men at the end of the summer, things would have gone very badly.
Jenni now playing in Mexico, it’s obviously harder for you to go and see her play. You watch her evolve on the other side of the ocean thanks to VPN, what you find ridiculous, it’s your sister for God’s sake.
But you’ve been used to long distance relationships for a while now. Because your girlfriend doesn’t happen to live in Barcelona either. Leila has been playing for Manchester City since the summer of 2022, a few months after you two started dating. The long-distance relationship is clearly not something easy to manage, but your reunions are incredible every time. Now that Jenni is no longer in Barcelona, it’s easier for you to fly to Leila for a weekend in Manchester.
Yes, because Jenni obviously doesn’t know that you’re in a relationship with one of her friends. Former colleagues at Barça and in the Spanish national team, there is no need to draw a picture to know how you met. It took some time for you to get closer, you were long persuaded that Leila only saw you as Jenni’s little sister. Baby Hermoso, like most of Jenni’s teammates like to call you.
It’s not a nickname that bothers you, you know it’s affectionate and again it’s not something pejorative for you to be compared to your sister. You love her. Even though she tends to be very protective of you, scaring away all your girlfriends pretty quickly. No one is good enough for you in her eyes and even if you know that her goal is to protect you and to avoid the mistakes that she made herself, you must admit that it’s for this reason that Leila and you decided to remain hidden.
Lying or hiding things from Jenni is really not easy for you. You are used to telling her everything and you have sometimes picked yourself up at the last moment when you want to tell her an anecdote about something you saw or did with Leila. Luckily, you didn’t make any missteps in a year and a half, almost two years.
But the secret is starting to weigh you more and more. Being away from the two most important women in your life is difficult for you and you regularly find yourself with lower morale than usual. When Jenni asks you about it, you just tell her you miss her. Which is true, but not totally. It’s easier for you to talk about it with Leila, even if you don’t want to impose your moods on her.
With Christmas coming, Leila is back in Barcelona, just like your big sister. You managed to establish a schedule in the rules of the art, juggling between family meals and stolen moments with your girlfriend. You even managed to set up an afternoon with Ona, Leila and other friends you have in common. You even asked Alba Putellas to join you, but she already had something planned.
So, when Ona and her brother went back to their parents, Leila offered to take you home, which you obviously accepted. Except she stayed at your place to end the night between lovers, catching up on all the kisses, hugs and love whispers you’re late for. You could spend hours with Leila, hidden under your sheets, exchanging confessions between two kisses.
********
It was between Christmas and New Year’s that Jenni asked you to have lunch and an afternoon with her. If her proposal obviously excited you, you found yourself hesitating when she told you she wanted to invite Leila to join you. It’s been a while since they met again and Leila apparently misses her. And since you two are getting along, Jenni thought it was a good idea to bring people together.
If only she knew how well you two get along…
From the exchange of messages that you had with Leila to talk about this, you realized that the situation seems to amuse your girlfriend more than anything else. It helped you see things in a different light. Maybe there’s no reason to worry, after all?
You’re the last arrived in the restaurant Jenni picked, both brunettes already sitting at a table. You have no trouble spotting them, it would have been difficult to do it anyway with Jenni’s great gestures. You approach Leila to hug her, giving her a stern look when her hand is dangerously low on your hip. Then you put a kiss on your sister’s cheek, which makes you sit next to her before grabbing a lock of your hair.
"Since when do you have red streaks?" laughs your sister
You shrug your shoulders and get rid of your jacket to place it on the back of your chair. The facility is already pretty full and people don’t seem to pay too much attention to your table. A good thing for you.
"Since yesterday"
"It suits her well I think"
Jenni looks at you for a few more seconds before smiling and nodding. Just like her, you have very dark hair, but your eyes are more on gray than on brown like those of Jenni. When you turn your attention to Leila, she winks at you and you find yourself blushing slightly while smiling.
The discussion between the three of you goes rather well in the end and after you go to choose tapas, you relax completely. The laughter burst and you spend a pleasant moment with the two brunettes.
Between two tapas, you grab your phone to open whatsapp and show a message from your mother to Jenni to show that you are right about something. Honestly, you can’t even say why it was, as the subject is quickly forgot when another conversation seems to have caught your big sister’s eye.
"Who is the lion?"
"What?"
You’re trying to quickly put your phone in your jacket pocket, because you know exactly what Jenni is talking about. Instead of saving Leila’s full name, you inserted a lion emoji and an emoji with a burning heart next to it. You find it cuter and it saves you a little today. But not as much as you would have liked.
No doubt thanks to her reflexes worked during training, Jenni managed to grab your phone before you put it away, hurrying to change her hand to get away from you.
"Jenni give it back to me" you half get up and try to take it back.
In front of you two, Leila looks at you with big eyes, without really knowing what to do. Luckily you never call yourself by your first names. And luckily too, you tend to send yourself photos through other apps.
"I miss you, I can’t wait to find you" starts reading Jenni out loud, frowning. "I count the days before I see you again… Who is this girl?"
When Jenni turns to you, you manage to take the phone out of her hands and put it away from her. Your cheeks are so red we could probably bake eggs on them.
"No one" you grunt carrying your glass to your lips.
"Well if that’s nobody, I don’t dare imagine what the messages with your girlfriend are" laughs Leila.
You almost strangle yourself with your drink and Jenni doesn’t seem to blame you to the point of letting you die on the spot since she gives you little pats on the back. On the other hand, you shoot your girlfriend with the look by seeing her drive the nail.
"Do you have a girlfriend?" asks Jenni, eyebrows still frowned.
You sigh softly and hesitate a split second before answering. After all, she doesn’t need to know who it is, right?
"Yes" you simply answer, giving her a look of challenge.
Jenni supports your gaze, obviously, and you feel the questions swirling through her head. You don’t know what you’ll get first.
"Why didn’t you tell me?" your older sister asks.
"Because you drove away all the last ones I’ve been with" you answer, rolling your eyes.
"Oh right away the big words…" sighs Jenni, even if her amused smile proves her guilt.
A few seconds pass and you naively hope that this will be enough for Jenni as information for the moment. Maybe the fact that you’re with Leila will hold her back from pushing things too hard and getting other information out of you.
"How is she?"
It’s Leila’s voice which resounds however and you return once again a dismayed look in her direction. She’s supposed to help you, not the other way around. However, when you answer that it’s not her business, Jenni insists by asking you the question in turn.
"She is kind, she is attentive and understanding" you end up answering, a deeply upset look displayed on the face.
"Is she pretty?" asks Leila
"Obviously" you snort.
In front of you, Leila seems to be having a great time. And if you think that you may laugh about it later, currently you can’t help but think that you intend to make her pay for it later.
"Is she a good kisser?" continues Leila.
"Wow no, I don’t want to hear the answer to that question" Jenni steps in with one hand up. "I can’t believe it, you’re still a baby."
You roll your eyes sighing, hearing the moan in the voice of your big sister. You’re almost eight years apart, but she sometimes has a hard time forgetting that you’ve been fifteen almost ten years ago.
"I’m 25, Jenni" you point out, but this information seems to fall on deaf ears.
"Wait, is that the girl from your job here? Aida?"
"Who is Aida?" asks Leila
This time, the fun left your girlfriend’s voice and face. This makes you shudder from the inside, the main flaw of the brunette being undoubtedly her jealousy. This has already highlighted some tensions between you, but you have always been able to communicate in order to avoid too much conflict.
"It’s nobody" you respond quickly to Leila, to whom you have already mentioned her existence, you are almost sure of it. "And no, it’s not Aida. Can we change the subject now, please?"
Groaning in her beard, Jenni finally accepts your request, even if she specifies that you pay nothing to wait. You roll your eyes again and peck the last crumbs on your plate while Jenni apologizes to go to the toilet.
As soon as she has her heels turned, you feel Leila leaning in your direction.
"Who’s Aida?" asks the brunette again.
You sigh softly and shift your attention to Leila. You’re relieved that your sister went to the bathroom quickly after that, or you know that your girlfriend would have had her blood blown out until you two were alone.
"One of my colleagues Babe, I already told you about it" you answer in a low voice, leaning mechanically too in her direction.
Leila answers nothing, content to look at you at length with her black eyes, arms crossed on her chest. She’s too far away for you to catch her hand, so you try to keep eye contact with her.
"Leila stop, we already discussed it. You have no reason to be jealous"
A few seconds pass during which Leila seems to pass you to the X-ray using her eyes. Time seems to last you a little too long, you end up arching an eyebrow in her direction.
"And excuse me, but if one of them should be jealous, it’s me. You’re the one who’s tactile with all your friends and you’re the one who’s got edits of your person on TikTok. Not me."
You see Leila’s face relaxing under the effect of her surprise. You’ve never mentioned these two things until now and this may not be the best time to do so since your older sister was reappearing next to you two. She seems surprised by your two sulky faces and your similar position, your arms crossed on your chests.
"Uh… is everything okay?" she asks while sitting next to you.
You nod your head while Leila just grunts for a simple answer.
"I have to go." You suddenly decide "See you before you go, right?"
Jenni answers yes, probably a little surprised by your quick departure. She stands up in turn to put a kiss on your cheek and take you in her arms.
"Do you need a ride? Where are you going?"
You know perfectly well that Leila’s question is not innocent but on the other hand the kindness and helpfulness of the brunette alone could explain the proposal. But, on your side, if you had to describe yourself in one flaw, it’s impulsivity. You prefer to talk about spontaneity, but that’s why you find yourself answering her sarcastically
"Seeing Aida, what else?"
The flash of anger and jealousy passing through Leila’s face is very fast, but visible to you. And apparently to Jenni as well.
Still standing, Jenni lets go of a surprise exclamation before pointing at Leila.
"It’s you!"
"Huh?" Leila replies, turning to Jenni, having forgotten for a split second her presence.
"The lion and the burning heart! It’s you!"
"She puts a burning heart next to the lion?"
Leila’s question makes you hit your forehead with your hand. It’s a disaster. She could have responded positively to Jenni’s question that it would have come back to the same thing.
Your sister remains silent for a long time, her gaze passing from Leila to you many times. She opens her mouth several times before finally finding the words that dare to suit her. For your part, your heart rate is so high that you wonder if your heart is not trying to come out of your chest.
"Why didn’t you tell me before?"
You sigh softly, leaning against the bench on which Leila is installed.
"I told you. You traumatized all my last girlfriends Jenni, I’m sure some of them even changed countries after you finished talking to them. I didn’t want this to happen this time."
You feel Leila’s gaze rise on you, you have after all just confided that this relationship is important to you.
"Your ex-girlfriends were selfish first-league idiots" grumbled Jenni rolling her eyes at her turn. "I know Leila isn’t"
You pout a little before shrugging. You’re not sure that if she hadn’t faced the fact her reaction would have been the same. If you had told her about your relationship with Leila when it took place, you are convinced that things would have been different.
"How long has it been?" keeps asking Jenni.
"A year and a half" answers Leila for you.
The information seems to surprise your sister as she bows her eyebrows at you. You mumble an excuse and shrug.
"Well, it doesn’t look like I have a something to say anyway" sighs Jenni as Leila pulls you by the arm to make you sit next to her.
You let yourself be willingly, the revelations of the last minutes making you forget that you managed to argue while Jenni went to the toilet. Jenni sits down again, looking at you carefully, before pointing again at Leila.
"You’re my friend Leila. But I swear to God, if you hurt her, you’re still six feet under."

Tumblr media
leila comes back to barcelona after you figure out that she cheated on you in manchester.
it became obvious that something was up whenever your teammates started acting weird around you. alexia and mapi were the first, but ona, pina, and claudia quickly followed suit. ona began to outright avoid you, which hurt pretty badly. almost as badly as whenever you finally realized what was going on.
you sat with your suspicions for several weeks before they were officially confirmed. leila was careful, but she got sloppy. it was in the back of someone else's instagram stories. your eyes had zeroed in on your girlfriend making out with another girl in the background of a video that one of her teammates had shot.
it was hard not letting on that you knew anything, but you weren't nearly as good at it as you thought you were. alexia could see that you were hurting, as could more of your more perceptive teammates. the one who had shocked you was lucy, who had snapped at leila whenever she came back to spain for a visit, claiming to have missed you dearly.
"get the fuck out of here," lucy had practically growled at leila. the woman had planned on surprising you, and at lucy ruining that, leila got pissed. the two of them were at each other's throats, and it took mapi and alexia leading leila away for things to calm down a bit. you couldn't hear them at first, but soon the hallway was full of your two barcelona teammates yelling at leila in spanish. "are you okay?"
"yeah, i'm fine," you answered quietly. lucy kneeled down next to you and put her hand around your shoulders. "how long have you guys known?"
"ona told me about it a few months ago. i didn't want to have to be the one to tell you. i'm sorry for not mentioning it earlier," lucy said. you nodded as you pulled her into a hug.
"it's okay. i probably wouldn't have believed you for a while. i couldn't, leila promised she'd never do something like this," you said. lucy understood how you felt. ona had been livid with the other spanish player whenever she had found out, to the point where lucy was certain they hadn't spoken to each other since. "when do you think they'll be done? i do have to talk to leila at some point."
"just tell her to get the fuck out of here, please? i know that she means a lot to you, but you can't go back to her. ona said it herself, leila will do it again," lucy pleaded with you. if it had been anybody else, you probably would have ignored the warnings, but lucy didn't like to get involved with people's lives like this.
"i'll try to," you promised. lucy pressed a kiss to your head before she helped you up to your feet. the two of you walked over to where alexia and mapi were still tearing into leila, who looked both ashamed and angry. lucy pulled your teammates away to give you some privacy with leila.
"amor," leila started. she moved towards you, but you held your hand up to keep her away from you. "please, let me explain."
"there's nothing to explain, leila. you cheated on me, it is that simple. you can blame the distance, your loneliness, the fact that you're just so affectionate. you can say anything that you want, but that doesn't change the fact that you cheated on me," you told her. "so go ahead and explain yourself because i'd love to hear whatever bullshit you've been telling yourself, but once you're done, i want you to answer all my questions."
"i missed you, and i was angry because i told you not to come with me. you offered to come to manchester, but i told you to stay here instead. i was all alone, and it was my fault, so i took it upon myself to be less lonely. it was just hook ups at first, i swear, and then there was this girl on the training staff. we hit it off, things are going great, but she's not you," leila said. all her words did was fill you with rage. she had confirmed that this had been going on for a lot longer than you knew, and worse than that, she was still with one of the girls she had cheated with.
"get the fuck out of here. if i never see you again, it'll still be too fucking soon." you turned on your heels and walked right out of the room. leila tried to chase after you, but lucy was right there to stop her. you walked into the locker room and went straight to your locker, beginning to pack up your things to go home.
"(y/n), are you okay?" mapi asked as she sat down next to you. you weren't crying, it was far past that, but you were obviously pissed. you didn't mean to direct it at mapi, but the glare you gave her had the woman backing away from you instantly. unfortunately for you, alexia wasn't as easily scared by you.
"i'm sorry that we didn't do something before," alexia said as she pulled you into a hug. her embrace was tight and comforting, but you didn't let yourself relax. most of the girls looked away, but you could see ona standing across the room looking at you longingly. she had been avoiding you for months, and it killed her to not be by your side as your best friend.
"come here oni," you told her. she raced over towards you, both of you dissolving into fits of tears as soon as you were in each other's arms. her apologies were scrambled in between sobs and spanglish, but you knew that she meant it. still, a part of you couldn't forgive her for what happened. she had known since the beginning that leila had cheated on you, but she hadn't said anything to you.
"do you need a ride home?" alexia asked once you and ona had calmed down a little. you nodded as you picked up your bag. the team didn't miss the way that you ignored ona as she said goodbye to you. the anger you felt for leila was starting to spread around the team, and if it wasn't for the fact that you needed alexia for support, you'd probably shut her out too. "it's not an excuse, but none of us knew how to tell you about leila. you seemed so happy, and i knew she'd do this when she started talking about switching teams. i didn't think it'd get so out of hand."
"were you listening to us?" you asked. alexia nodded her head as she started driving. you knew that she wasn't taking you back to your apartment. "did you know it was with so many girls?"
"no, it's never been that many before," alexia muttered. you could see that she wasn't just angry. "you were supposed to be different for her. i believed in her not to do this again. i'm sorry, if there's anybody you should be mad at, it's me, not ona. i'm the one who knew about this pattern. don't ruin a friendship with someone who doesn't deserve to be caught in the crossfire."
"it's hard right now. all i can think about is that she knew," you admitted. alexia sighed as she squeezed your hand. "i could have done the same thing to leila, but i didn't. why did she have to do that to me?"
"sometimes, she's careless about things that she shouldn't be. she was careless with your trust. it's hard, but try not to think about her. don't give her a second thought, because eventually, the pain will subside along with your feelings for her," alexia said. you tilted your head to the side as you realized that she was speaking from experience. "do you want to be alone right now or can i come inside too?"
"don't you have practice?" you questioned. alexia shrugged.
"not if you need a shoulder to cry on," she told you. "let me know what you need, and i'll do my best to get it for you."
"i want you to come with me, and maybe, when practice is over, we can call ona," you told her. alexia nodded as she got out of the car. she got your bag for you, and for a moment, it reminded you of the way that leila had been with you in the beginning of your relationship. the only difference was that alexia didn't look at you like leila did, as if she knew that you were already head over heels for her.

Dirty Little Secret - part 6 (leila ouahabi x reader)
Summary: A love story about secrets, flirty messages, football rivalries, and useless lesbians who don’t know how to communicate. And it all starts with one badly timed challenge in the Champions League.
Leila Ouahabi x Arsenal!reader
Part 6/?
Read other parts here.
———
You’re a European Champion.
You don’t really know what to do with that information.
To be honest, after the first twenty four hours that pass in a hungover blur, you end up on a bit of a downer. You should be delighted, riding the high of being the first England team to win a major trophy in fifty-six years, but after two glorious months in camp with a group of girls you’re now bonded with for life, returning to your hometown for a couple of weeks before pre-season is a dose of reality that’s just a little bit too big to swallow.
You’re happy to see your family, of course. You’ve spent most of the summer away from them with only limited visits while you were in camp. But after the best summer of your life with a football at your feet, it takes all of about three days for you to be itching to get back on the football pitch again.
A few days into your two weeks off, a few of the girls get together for what is part post-Euro reunion and part farewell dinner for Georgia, who departs for Munich the next day. It’s a mixed group - a few Lionesses and some of the girls from Manchester City - but it’s the familiar dark hair at the end of the table that catches your eye, deep in conversation with somebody else you don’t know.
You’re surprised to see Leila who, apart from having her own Euro hopes dashed by Georgia’s extra time winner, has no reason to know Georgia.
You take a seat next to Lauren, who notices you looking at the two girls at the far end of the table.
“Oh, that’s Laia and Leila,” she explains. “I invited them. They’re still settling into the team and there’s so many City girls here, I thought it would be nice for them to get to know people a bit better.”
Leila must feel your eyes on her because it’s at that exact moment that she looks up and her dark gaze meets yours. There’s no change to her expression, no giveaway to anybody else that you know each other except for the fact that her eyes linger on you for longer than they would if you were just strangers who happened to make eye contact, until she finally turns back to her conversation with Laia.
You feel a rush of giddiness go straight to your head, blocking out all the sounds around you as you continue to look at Leila, admiring the sharp angles of her side profile. It almost feels like the Arnold Clark Cup all over again, having this secret that nobody else around you knows. You enjoyed your time in Barcelona with Leila and getting to be all coupley with her in front of her old teammates, but you’d forgotten how much of a turn-on the thrill of secrecy could be.
———
As the evening goes on, you don’t forget about Leila - how could you, when she is right there and looks so damn good - but you get a little distracted by everything else. There are enough Lionesses present that means you spend a lot of time talking about the Euros, reminiscing over the best summer of your life, then because tonight is about Georgia leaving, you end up talking about old times at City. It’s been years since you played for them, a scrawny teenager playing alongside Keira and Georgia, all three of you with big dreams and no idea that you would one day become European Champions together. But even as you reminisce, there’s always a part of you that’s aware of Leila’s presence at the other end of the table and you can’t help but glancing at her throughout the night.
“All us OG City girls are gradually leaving the nest,” Georgia says, smiling fondly at you and Keira. “I wonder who’ll be next.”
You notice that Keira is suspiciously quiet and has suddenly taken a deep interest in the ice cubes at the bottom of her empty glass. With the performances she’s just put on at the Euros, you wouldn’t be surprised if she’s got interest from other clubs too.
“City’s got some new blood now though,” you say, your eyes wandering to Leila once more. “Not that it’ll matter, Arsenal will still beat City this season.”
Predictably in a room full of mostly City players, your comment causes outrage. Arsenal and City are due to play each other soon for the first fixture of the new season and you always enjoy the rivalry against your old club. And with Leila on the other team, you’ve got extra incentive to go out there and put on a show this time.
You let them banter with you for a moment. Even Georgia, technically no longer a City player, takes great joy in slandering Arsenal.
When the conversation finally moves on, your eyes wander back to Leila, and you tune out the voices around you as you stare, mentally trying to figure out if there’s a way you can subtly change seats to be closer to her without alerting the entire group to your motives.
There isn’t, and Leila chooses that exact moment to meet your gaze while her lips are still wrapped around the straw in her drink. She lets the straw slip out of her mouth but you still get a glimpse of the pink tip of her tongue and there’s no way in hell you can pay attention to whatever conversation is going on around you now.
You excuse yourself to the bathroom, anything to give yourself a chance to get away and recompose yourself, and thankfully they’re all too busy laughing at something Georgia is saying to pay any attention to the flush of your cheeks, nor the way that Leila’s gaze follows you as you go.
You hear somebody else enter the bathroom as you flush the toilet and when you exit the cubicle Leila is standing at the sinks checking her appearance in the mirror. Her dark eyes find yours in the reflection, and her mouth twitches in a smirk of recognition.
“Hi,” she says.
You glance around the bathroom, checking that all three stalls are empty, before you approach the sink to wash your hands and reply, “Hi yourself. How are you finding Manchester?”
“I like it. It’s a nice city.”
“At least the weather’s been nice since you got here. Just wait until it rains every day.”
You walk over to the paper towel dispenser to dry your hands and Leila turns around, leaning back against the sink to look at you.
“Everything is always about the weather to you English people,” she says, rolling her eyes. “Too hot, too cold.”
“What can I say - we like to complain.”
“Are you going to complain right now?” Leila asks.
The air in the bathroom suddenly feels a lot thicker, the way that Leila is watching you as you dispose of the balled up paper towel, coupled with the teasing lilt to her tone, reminding you of just how attracted you are to her.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Actually, there is one thing I want to complain about,” you say, taking a couple of steps closer to Leila.
“What‘s that?” Leila asks, her eyebrows crinkling together in a frown.
“I want to complain about the fact that we’re alone in this completely deserted bathroom and you haven’t kissed me yet.”
“You haven’t kissed me either,” Leila points out.
“Is that an invitation?” you challenge her.
Your words have the desired effect of provoking a reaction from Leila, because her eyes flash in defiance and she retaliates, “I want to complain about how annoying-”
You don’t give Leila the chance to finish her complaint, because you grab her by the lapels of her jacket and pull her in for a kiss. She lets out a surprised little grunt when your lips collide with hers, but melts into the kiss quickly, her hands finding your hips as her lips settle into a familiar movement against your own.
You only realise now that you’re here, kissing Leila in a secluded bathroom like your life depends on it, that it’s actually been months since you last did this. In all your focus for the Euros, the hard work and the euphoria, you’d sort of forgotten that you hadn’t actually kissed Leila since you bid your goodbyes to each other in the departure lounge of the Barcelona airport after your brief visit at the end of last season. Not even after your game against each other during the tournament did you kiss.
And with the way Leila kisses you, stealing the air from your mouth with such hunger, you vow never to go another three months without kissing her again.
“I’ve missed you,” you mumble against her mouth, when you have to draw back for breath, to save yourself from passing out from sheer lack of oxygen caused by Leila’s kiss. “I’ve missed this.”
Leila’s hand finds the back of your head and she uses it to pull you closer, not for another kiss, but to rest your head against her shoulder as she wraps her other arm around your back. You snake your own arms around her waist, burying your face into her neck and savouring the feeling of her arms around you, not wanting this moment to end.
“I’ve missed this too,” Leila murmurs, her fingers stroking through your hair.
She’s right, it’s this that you’ve been craving. Not the kissing or the sex, though you’ve spent more time thinking about that in the nearly three months since you last slept together than you’d care to admit, but everything else too. The intimacy of being held, of having somebody to share the little moments with, the ability to go from teasing each other about the weather to making out against a sink to cuddling like this, with each of those things feeling just as natural as the last.
And maybe, just maybe, all of that will be easier to facilitate than it was when you lived in different countries.
“Stay with me tonight?” Leila asks, feeling her voice rumble beneath your cheek as much as you hear the words.
You’d been planning on getting a taxi back to your parents’ house on the outskirts of Manchester, or maybe crashing with Lauren or Keira if it ends up being a late one tonight, but that was before you knew that you’d see Leila tonight. Now that this offer is on the table, there’s nowhere else you want to spend the night.
“Of course.”
———
Waking up the next morning, there are two things that you feel. The first is comfort, Leila’s warm body wrapped around your own with your hips nestled back against her own, feeling happy and well-rested after a night of good sleep in her arms.
The second is the desperate urge to pee.
You try to extract yourself from Leila’s embrace without disturbing her, but Leila only tightens her arms around you to stop you from leaving and mumbles words that you don’t understand in sleepy Spanish.
“Leila,” you murmur, trying to wriggle free. “Leila, I need to pee. Where’s your bathroom?”
Leila reluctantly lets you leave her arms and mutters in Spanish again, before she says in English, “Left.”
You slip out of bed and leave Leila’s bedroom, following her directions by finding the bathroom through the next door to the left.
When you’ve been to the toilet and freshened up a little with some cold water to your face and running your fingers through your mussed hair, you exit the bathroom and immediately stop in your tracks when you see somebody sitting at the dining table eating breakfast and drinking coffee. You think you recognise her as one of Leila’s new City teammates, though her name slips your mind, but you wonder if you really walked right past her without noticing her on your way to the bathroom.
“Hi,” she greets you, an amused smile gracing her lips. “I’m Deyna.”
You glance at Leila’s bedroom door, which stands slightly ajar as you left it, then introduce yourself to Deyna.
“Arsenal, right?” she asks.
“Yeah,” you nod. “And you’re at City with Leila?”
“Teammates. Roommates.” Deyna pauses, then adds, “Just regular mates.”
“Cool,” you say, unsure whether you’re supposed to continue to make smalltalk with Deyna out of politeness, or if it’s acceptable to make your excuses and return to Leila’s room.
Luckily you’re saved at that exact moment by Leila herself, who emerges from her bedroom with sleep-tousled hair to investigate what’s going on.
“Oh,” she says, when she sees Deyna. From the expression on her face, she’s as surprised to see Deyna as you are. She turns to you, then says, “This is Deyna.”
“She knows that already,” Deyna grins. “We were just getting to know each other.”
“Coffee?” Leila asks you, as she walks over to the kitchen units and grabs a couple of mugs out of a cupboard.
“Yes please,” you reply. At the table, Deyna’s attention is now on her phone as she eats, and you say to Leila, “You didn’t mention that you had a roommate.”
“Don’t worry, I’m a deep sleeper,” Deyna interjects, glancing up from the screen of her phone with a smirk gracing her lips.
Your cheeks burn red and Leila retaliates with what you can only assume is a string of Spanish expletives.
Deyna apologises, mostly directing it at you, before she asks, “So how did you two meet?”
“Champions League,” Leila answers, busying herself over the coffee again.
“We played each other twice in the group stage last season,” you elaborate.
“I beat her twice,” Leila says, glancing across at you with a glint of mischief in her eyes.
“Leila got a yellow card for trying to break my legs.”
“I didn’t … it was an accident,” Leila insists. “It was passion.”
“Strange way to flirt, but okay,” Deyna teases Leila.
“That’s what I said!” you exclaim in agreement.
Leila wanders over with two steaming mugs of coffee, one of which she offers out to you, and she leans in to press a quick kiss to your lips as she mumbles, “Hey, it worked, didn’t it?”
You thank her for the coffee, bringing it to your lips and taking the tiniest sip from the mug, letting out a satisfied hum.
The only other time Leila has made you coffee was when you went to visit her in Barcelona, but the coffee is perfect, like heaven touching your tongue.
“You remembered how I take my coffee?” you ask.
“Yeah. Of course.”
“Thank you, it’s perfect.”
The domesticity of it is nice, as if you’re existing in a bubble where only you and Leila matter.
Until Deyna interrupts your moment.
“Go and be cute in your room,” she tells Leila, dismissing you both with a wave and a roll of her eyes. “I’m trying to eat.”
Leila nudges you back towards her bedroom and you soon find yourself nestled against Leila’s side again, propped up against the headboard with steaming mugs of coffee cradled in your hands.
“You promised me a tour?” she says.
“Of Manchester?”
Leila nods eagerly.
“You’re gonna have to wait a bit longer,” you tell Leila apologetically. “I can’t hang out today.”
The disappointment that flashes across Leila’s face is almost enough to have you reaching for your phone to call your agent to cancel your plans for the day.
“I’m sorry. I’m supposed to be going back to my old junior club today. Helping out with some training, taking photos with the kids, letting them see my medal. Inspiring the next generation and all that crap.”
“It’s not crap,” Leila assures you. “Well, maybe for me if it means we can’t hang out.”
“Didn’t know you were so clingy,” you tease her.
“There’s a lot you don’t know about me yet,” Leila replies flirtatiously.
You smile across at her.
“And I can’t wait to find out.”
———
You return to London a couple of days later, regretfully without having seen Leila again since that morning at her flat, but you start to message each other more often. Not quite every day, but a few times a week, little things like talking about your days. It’s more familiar than it’s ever been before, with most of your conversations prior to the Euros being laced with flirtatious pictures and suggestive messages. But this is different - you talk about mundane things like training, or what you’re having for dinner, or the latest English slang words that Leila has learned from her new City teammates.
But that doesn’t mean your relationship has lost any of its spark. It’s still flirty, especially because Arsenal’s first fixture of the new season is away at City. It reminds you a little bit of those first couple of encounters in the Champions League last season, bantering about the upcoming contest in a way you hope leads to sparks on and off the pitch.
And then the game gets cancelled.
All that build-up, the jokes about yellow cards, the promises that you’d let Leila do whatever she wants to you if she let you score past her, falls away into nothing the moment that the game is called off.
You feel empty. And not just because football is your life and you’d been looking forward to the league starting up again, but because once the season starts you don’t know when you and Leila will both get time off at the same time. It might be months before you get to see each other again.
———
Two things happen when the season finally begins and September morphs into October.
The first is that you pick up a hamstring injury. It shouldn’t surprise you too much, given that you pretty much went straight from last season into the Euros, straight into pre-season. You’re in your prime as an athlete, but you’re not invincible. You work hard on your recovery, even if you’re a little bummed to be spending so much time in the gym and staying on the sidelines as the Champions League group stage begins.
The second thing that happens is that fifteen Spanish players, including Leila, step back from their national team in protest of their working conditions. You don’t know the details but you remember Leila alluding to some problems during the Euros, when she pointed out that talent alone doesn’t win Championships.
You don’t really know what you can do to support Leila, especially from London. The story blows up in the football media world and you imagine it must be particularly hard for Leila, being so far from Spain and away from most of the other girls involved, but you don’t know if there’s anything you can do or say to make it easier.
You eventually settle on messaging her a few hours after the story hits the headlines.
You Proud of you for standing up for the right thing! Always here if you want to talk about it or if you want a distraction instead?
Leila likes your message after a few hours but doesn’t reply.
The red heart that taunts you from the screen of your phone is something you’ll come to realise is probably the beginning of the end.

Ma’am do you write for Leila Ouahabi? A writer posted a bunch of old requests she won’t be writing and this one caught my eye: (Leila uses R as a shield everytime ESPWNT teammates scare her)
A/N: Look I wrote a thing after *checks watch* ... actually lets not talk about how long its been.
If there is one thing you’re certain of in life, it’s that your girlfriend is a massive scaredy cat.
As tough as she may appear to people who don’t know her very well (especially when it comes to her antics on the field), you and all of your national team teammates know that the slightest noise or sudden movement can make her jump out of her skin.
And since everyone knows this, they all make it their job at camp to scare her at every possible movement.
In the past, you had been completely fine with this but recently Leila has taken to using you as a shield against all of your teammates' attacks.
The first time it happened, you had no choice but to be shocked.
The two of you had been walking down the hall after training when Mapi jumped out at you from an alcove.
Leila’s hand, which had been loosely wrapped around your waist immediately tightens, but instead of pulling you behind her like you thought she would, you get tugged against her chest as she crouches down behind you and hides her face in your back.
This leaves you staring blankly at Mapi who can barely hold herself up she’s laughing so hard.
Sighing deeply, you loosen Leila’s grip on your body and turn to face her.
“Seriously?”
You watch for a few seconds as Leila stutters and stumbles her words, Mapi still laughing behind you.
“Seriously,” you say again.
“Mi amor,” your girlfriend tries, reaching out for your hand, only for you to take a step back while glaring at her.
“Idiotas.”
You glare at her one more time before turning and leaving the two best friends standing there.
Of course, word of what happened spreads quickly through the team, which means that you find yourself in the position of a human shield with increasing frequency.
Which, in turn, means that Leila finds herself on the receiving end of your glare with that same frequency.
Your teammates all take any and every opportunity to scare your girlfriend into the dog house.
Even Alexia has gotten in on the action, quietly walking up behind the defender and scaring her so badly that the older woman leaps into your arms.
Rolling your eyes, you adjust your grip on her to hold her more securely and continue walking back to Leila’s hotel room. Tossing nothing but a simple ‘bye Ale’ over your shoulder on your way.
In its own twisted way, your non-reactions become a challenge to your teammates in it’s own right.
As time passes and more camps come and go, they come up with new and increasingly outrageous ways to try and get a rise out of you.
Most of them fail.
Ona is the one with the best attempt. It’s probably because she knows that both you and Leila have a soft spot for her.
It happens one morning at breakfast, near the end of camp, just as you point out to Leila that the younger woman she’d claimed as her cousin hasn’t been seen yet.
Just as you finish saying, Leila begins freaking out saying that something touched her leg.
Rolling your eyes, you lean over to check under the tablecloth to reassure your girlfriend that there’s nothing down there but you don’t do much other than look at your feet before sitting back up.
Unfortunately, Leila continues, to insist that something is touching her leg. So much so that you reach down and move her legs so that their resting on your lap.
Breakfast continues mostly in peace after that…
…until you feel something grab your leg.
The first few times it happens, you just shake it away and continue eating.
But eventually, it wraps itself fully around your ankle.
Naturally, this startles you. So in a surprising display of coordination, you pull Leila into your lap while pushing away from the table at the same time.
There’s also a very impressive string of curse words that you let out.In the middle of your tirade, you spot Ona crawling out from under the table.
“Joder. Hijo de la gran puta.”
Clearly, you are causing a scene and drawing the attention of all your teammates and the coaching staff but you can’t really find it in you to care. Especially not with the way both Leila and Ona are laughing so hard their faces are turning red.
Rolling your eyes at the pair of clowns, you stand up (letting your girlfriend drop to the ground) and begin to walk away.
Stopping just before you reach the door, you turn around and look back at Leila and Ona, who are now leaning on each other trying to catch their breath.
“Alright I’ve let everyone have their fun,” you say, “but we all remember what happened the last time I joined in on a prank war.”
And with that, you walk out of the room, trying not to laugh at the sound of multiple people scrambling to chase after you.

champagne - turbulence - laughs
Love At First Flight (Leila Ouahabi x Reader)
A/N: There was no player attached so I decided to write for Leila!
[WOSO Masterlist]
“Champagne for you, ma’am.”
The soft drawl of the flight attendant has you pulling your eyes away from the movie you’re not even paying attention to. You only put it on in hopes of distracting yourself, but so far it hasn’t done a thing.
“I-- I didn’t order one,” you grit out between clenched teeth.
The flight attendant seems apologetic, clearly attuned to the way you’re nearly jumping out of your skin. “The woman over there wanted to send you something for your nerves.”
You follow her finger to the row in front of yours. There’s a gorgeous woman across the aisle giving you a sympathetic look.
You raise a shaky hand in thanks, trying to breathe in long and deep to calm yourself. It doesn’t work. Downing the whole flute in one doesn’t seem to work either.
It draws a low chuckle from the charitable woman though.
“That bad, huh.”
“That obvious?”
It took some serious convincing on the part of your friends to vacation in Ibiza during the holiday. With most of them flying in from places all over the world, this meant a solo flight for you from your hometown of Manchester. Flying has always been your last choice of transportation, not one for the skies, so you already knew it was going to be a rough ride. You had debated taking some medicine right before the flight, but the frazzle brain that you are, you managed to misplace them right before you left.
If it wasn’t for the generosity of your nearby passenger, you were already seriously debating ordering some alcohol for yourself.
“Do you mind if I…” She gestures to the empty seat next to you.
You nod, turning your body so she can slip in beside you.
“Leila,” she supplies without any prompting.
You’re halfway through introducing yourself when the plane hits a sudden rough patch, shaking you in your seat. An embarrassing squawk leaves your lips and you latch onto the closest thing you can.
Leila winces at the strength of your grip.
It isn’t until a good half minute later, when your heart rate finally starts to settle that you realize what you’ve done. “Sorry,” you whisper, slowly easing your hand off hers.
“It’s okay,” she chuckles. She flips her hand over, quick to catch yours before you can fully pull away. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell if you won’t.”
Something about her confidence has you blushing a bit. She lets you take comfort from her hand, your body slowly relaxing the longer your hand stays in hers.
It’s almost strange, the way you find comfort in someone you don’t even know. If Leila minds, she doesn’t seem to show it. If anything, there’s a smug sort of look on her face as she makes herself at home beside you.
When the silence persists and it’s clear that Leila is content to just sit in the quiet, you muster up the courage to say something. “Whatcha going over to Spain for?”
She gives you a look. “Accent doesn’t give me away?”
You blush again. “Well I didn’t want to assume.”
Leila laughs, a sound that makes your heart flutter in your chest. “I’m just going back to see some friends. Haven’t been able to see them much since I moved over to Manchester.”
“Oh, what did you move here for?”
By the time you hear the ding of the seatbelt light, the captain garbling some announcement about landing soon, you and Leila have become well acquainted. It’s almost as if you’ve known each other for years, laughing and trading stories one after another.
She looks almost a bit disappointed that your time together has come to an end.
You’re feeling pretty much the same.
You pause to let her grab her bag first, but Leila waits for you before the two of you start your slow trek off the plane and into the airport. Your hands slowly bump, brushing the entire way off, but something about your bubble being broken has you hesitant to take her hand into yours again.
The closer you get to the luggage claim, the more you realize you want to see Leila again. What are the chances that you’ve run into such a beautiful woman who’s caring enough to sit with a stranger for an entire flight? And what are your chances that the two of you would ever run into each other again? It isn’t like Manchester is small enough for you to hedge your bets on chance bringing you back into her orbit once you’re both back home.
“Would you maybe like to meet up again when we’re both back in England?”
Leila doesn’t miss a step, sending you a wink as she gestures towards your pocket.
Frowning, you reach into your pocket. You’re surprised when you pull out a piece of paper, nine digits neatly written with a little note on the side.
[Call me if you need someone to hold your hand on the way home]
When you look up, the Spaniard is nowhere to be seen.
But with her number in your hand, you know it won’t be long until you see her again.

Can we get a Leila one where reader is Leah is younger sister and also plays for Arsenal. They haven’t made their relationship public and the night before they get into an argument about it and Leila said some harsh words. Leah knows whats going and is extra careful and protective of her little sister (so are Katie and Beth) and Leila’s full of guilt seeing the state her girlfriend is. During the match Y/N gets a bad blow to her chest/lungs and before Leila and Leah can comprehend what happened, the person they love most is unconscious on the field. just loads of angst and kind of some Leah and Leila bonding, they’re my absolute faves ever
A/n: I’m sorry this has taken a while. It’s been sat in my drafts and I deliberated writing more but I think what is here is ok so I hope you enjoy
"I think we should go public"
The silence from the other end of the phone is deafening and definitely not what you were expecting as your naivety in thinking Leila would be on board starts to show.
"Can you say something, please?" you ask and only now does it pop into your head that you should have done this on FaceTime where you would have been able to see her expressions and what she was thinking, it certainly would have made this whole situation a lot easier.
Glancing your phone to make sure she hadn't hung up on you, you try again to explain your reasoning for wanting to tell the world about your relationship and have the freedom to post whatever you wanted on social media.
"What do you think?" you ask, hoping that she is still listening, "I still think we should wait" she replies.
"Why? We've been together for a year and a half Leila, what are you so afraid of? My family knows we're together, so do our friends and the fans have their suspicions, wouldn't it feel so good not having to hide our relationship?" you explain but once again your girlfriends answer is inadequate.
"Do we have to do this now y/n? We have a game tomorrow and we both need to sleep" she sighs, yawning seemingly for effect and you're more than frustrated now, but you know she's right, "vale, I'll see you tomorrow. Te amo, buenas noches" Leila adds halfheartedly.
"Te amo Leila".
***
All Leila has to do is look at you to know that she made a mistake.
You don't make eye contact with her in the tunnel or when the Barcelona players shake your hand, wanting to avoid as much contact with the defender as possible.
You miss the look Beth and Katie exchange behind your back, as well as the one Leah gives Leila, your sister and friends were well aware of the situation she had left you in the night before and they could see it sinking further into your body as the game progressed, not helped by the fact Arsenal are 3-0 down at half time.
You'd barely touched the ball, not to mention it was physically draining as you were left running after the Barcelona players time and time again.
The tiredness is starting to show as the Spanish side keep pushing you off the ball and you can sense something bad coming as the ball looping over the top of your head and you catch a glimpse of Alexia rushing in from the side, bodychecking you and sending you to the floor.
There's a sharp pain in your side, your ribs burning every time you try and take a breath, overwhelming amounts of pain taking over your mind as you start to and eventually black out.
Leah is on the other side of the pitch but she is the first to notice you're still on the ground and the first to your side, sprinting across the grass and reaching you just as you lose consciousness. Meanwhile Leila is sat on the Barca bench, helplessly watching on as your sister and doctors try to bring you round, leg bouncing up and down so much that Mel has to reach out and stop it.
"Y/n? YIn can you hear me?"
"Y/n, I need you to wake up... please".
Your sister's voice sounds miles away, pleading for you to open your eyes as you do eventually come around and are met with concerned faces, more than a little confused as to how and why you're on the floor but the stabbing in your side is a painful reminder.
Alexia taps your back as means of an apology and the stadium erupts as you're escorted off the pitch, casting your eyes over the Barcelona bench and giving Mel the smallest nod to tell her you're ok before heading out of sight.
***
As soon as the final whistle blows, Leah is straight inside and fussing over you, checking you over for the millionth time while carefully embracing you as Leila stands awkwardly in the corner.
You reassure your sister and explain that it's nothing too serious, probably just some bruised ribs that shouldn't keep you out for very long, glancing over to the Barcelona player every so and dropping hints to your sibling. Thankfully she more than understands and makes a quick exit, pressing a kiss to your temple and giving you a soft look as she closes the door behind her.
"Mi amor".
Leila's gaze remains fixed on the ground, "mirame mi amor, por favor" you repeat as she reluctantly raises her head and you lock eyes for the first time that night, the connection sparking something in leila who immediately apologises.
"Era estúpida. I was wrong. I should have listened to you, lo siento" she says, "I am so, so sorry cariño".
Shaking your head with a smile, you gesture for her to join you and pull her into a kiss to stop her ramblings, pouring all your emotions into this one moment to try and convey some sense of what your feeling, "I will not make you do anything you aren't comfortable with, do you hear me?" you question, pulling back to hold her face with your hands.
"You mi amor, are the most important person in my life and I do not want to lose you" Leila presses her forehead to yours and for a moment, the only sounds that fill the room are the quiet inhales and exhales of breath, grounding yourselves and letting the frustrations of the night dissipate.
The silence is broken by Leah calling for your girlfriend to return to her own team before any of the Arsenal girls realise, "me tengo que ir, mi amor" the defender sighs, pulling you close and hiding herself in your neck, pressing a few kisses there and sending shivers down your spine.
"Can't you stay?" you breathe, not wanting the moment to end, "no she can't, now get a move on Ouahabi!" Leah's voice echoes in the hall again.
"And no post match sex!!"
Rather than risk the wrath of your sister, Leila presses one last bruising kiss to your lips before reluctantly moving to the door and knocks to let Leah know she wants to leave, "Til call you when get back to the hotel cariño" she smiles and with that, she slips out into the corridor.
"Took you long enough" Leah sighs, coming in and helping you down, one arm gingerly around your waist to support you, "nice hickey by the way".

New Year's Eve Party (4) II Leïla Ouahabi x Reader
Tumblr media
New Year's Eve Party Masterlist (all previous parts can be found here) I Word count: 1640
“Leila, you look great. Come on, we got to go, we’re already late to the party.”, Ona was impatiently standing in her bathroom door who was done with her close friend looking at herself critical in the mirror for at least fifteen minutes.
Nervously Leila ran a hand through her long dark hair:” Yes, but she’ll be there too.” “And she’ll be happy seeing you either way. So come on.”, the younger Spanish woman reminded her. With a sigh the Manchester City player turned her back to the mirror: “Alright, I’m ready, we can leave.” “Perfect.”, happily Ona led her friend out of her appartement.
The party already arrived when the two defenders arrived. Stunned Leila stopped at the entrance of Fridolina’s home, taking a moment to take in the atmosphere of the celebrations:” Wow.” “Wow as in look at her she’s still as beautiful as I remember her or wow as in Patri is the worst DJ ever.”, the Barcelona player joked light-heartedly. Her question made the Manchester City defender laugh out loud:” Both actually.”
A wide grin appeared on Patri’s face who heard everything her friends had said: “You know when you two think you’re whispering you’re basically shouting?” “Maybe it would help if you’d turn the music down!”, Ona shouted back giggling. Smiling Leila added: “Yes, because some of us need to catch up with each other!” “But we’re not here to catch up. We’re here to party.”, the midfielder and hobby DJ pointed out.
With a sigh the Manchester City player looked around, in hope to see your familiar face in the sea of former teammates and lifelong friends: “So according to you, we should be dancing instead of talking?” “That’s exactly what I meant.”, Patri replied content.
That was the moment Ona realized that her friend needed a little help, so she pushed her into your direction:” Come on no more foreplay Leila. Go and dance with her!”
The defender almost stumbled into you when you turned around, the surprise was shown all over your face: “Leila? I almost thought you wouldn’t come.” “No, I.. I said I would come.”, she licked nervously her lips. Your heart skipped a beat when you realized that she was finally here, next to you in flesh and bone: “I’m glad you did.” “I’m a glad you came too.”, Leila replied truthfully.
Innocently you asked her: “Nothing beats a New Year’s Eve Party in Barcelona with the girls, right?”  “No, that’s true. And I can’t miss out on the chance to see all my friends again.”, she admitted fondly. You echoed more surprised than you should; “Friends. Yes, of course.“
You were trying to let the fact that Leila considered you a friend not hurt too much when she quickly added; “And you.“ You looked up in shock, meeting Leilas intense brown eyes for a moment. You gathered all your courage to explain to her; “Leila, I need to tell you something…“
But before you could finish or get a reaction from Leila, you were pulled away by one of your teammates towards a different group of people. “Wait, what?“, Leila was calling after you, but Alexia was holding on to you tight, a suspiciously big smile on her face that made you wonder if she had too much champagne already.
“Ale, I was just talking to Leila…“, you protested. Your team mate nonchalantly waved you off; “You can talk to her later.“ “So, what’s the matter?“, you now asked while Alexia pressed a glass of champagne into your hand. “We have to celebrate.“, she stated happily. You frowned in confusion; “Celebrate what?“
“Hey.“, Leilas voice said close to your ear. Immediately, you turned around facing the defender; “Yes?“ “You wanted to say something…“, Leila prompted you to continue your conversation. You hesitated for a moment, then shook your head. Looking at Alexia with her wife and the other girls celebrating together, your heart filled with adoration for your team mates; “Yeah, I love them all so much.“
“You do?“, Leila asked. Sipping from your champagne, you nodded; “Yes.“ The defenders face scrunched in mistrust as she eyed your glass; “I think you had enough for that.“ “Leila, this is my first glass.“, you assured her but she still took it out of your hand. She raised her eyebrow slightly; “Are you sure? That didn’t sound like it was.“
With a deep breath, you revealed what you have been trying to tell her the whole time; “It’s my way to say goodbye to them.“ “Why would you say goodbye to them? You’ll still see them next year.“, Leila retorted quickly. “Yes, but it will be differently.“, you sighed. The defender shook her head; “I don’t think I understand.“ Another deep breath before you finally laid everything bare; “I’m leaving Barcelona.“
Throwback
There was nothing but shock. You didn’t remember ever feeling so numb before. You both were standing in your apartment in Barcelona when Leila broke the news to you. “You’re leaving?“ That voice didn’t sound like you at all. Leila took a step towards you, you took one step back; “You could come with me…“ It sounded stickily sweet. “How? I still have a contract here.“, you replied. “But I thought…“, she started.
Her shoulders slumped; “Oh, forget it.“ You’d love to forget her right now. “I can’t come with you.“ There was emphasis on every word, in hopes that Leila would finally understand the situation. She frowned at you; “So you don’t love me.“
There was bitter laugh stuck in your throat when you answered; “You’re being unfair. Of course I do.“ “Then why wouldn’t you come with me?“ “I told you, it’s because of my contract.“, you repeated impatiently. Leila shook her head with an incredulous look; “Sure.“ For a split second, you wished she would just leave and never come back.
End of the Throwback
“Where would you go? Barcelona is the best club in Europe.”, Leila pressed on, her voice full of disbelief. A frustrated sigh escaped your lips:“I know.”  “Then why do you want to leave?”, the defender asked you puzzled. You took a deep breath before replying to her question:” Because of you. But also, the WSL title race seems very exciting.” “Wait, what?”, she interrupted you shocked.
It took all your courage to continue:” What I’m trying to tell you all evening is that I’m coming to-“ “Guys the firework is about to start, we’ll all go to the balcony to see it!”, Patri cut through your attempt of an explanation. The Manchester City player glanced annoyed at the midfielder: “Patri!”  “Don’t worry, I can tell you on there.”, you promised her as you followed your teammates on to the balcony awaiting the soon upcoming fireworks.
When you reached your destination, you finally let the defender know what you were trying to say all evening:” I’m joining Manchester City.” “You’re?”, surprise was written all over Leila’s face. Nervously you nodded: “I do, yes.”  “But.. why?”, the Manchester City player sounded confused.  A sudden confidence got into you as you took her hand in yours:” Isn’t it obvious.”
In that moment the firework begun, illuminating the dark midnight sky. “I can’t believe you would do that without telling me.”, the news got under Leilas skin as she was trying to translate her emotions into adequate sentences.  Quietly you confessed to her:“I wanted to tell you this in person.”
“You’re coming to Manchester.”, the joy in her voice was undeniable as she just realized what you said. Suddenly a bit of hesitation made you stammer:”Sorry, that it took so long. If you found someone in Manchester I’d understand.”  “I didn’t. There was no one.”, Leila replied serious. “Same for me.”
Excited the Manchester City player wanted to know: “When are you signing?” “At the start of January.”, you replied swiftly. “Do you have a place to stay yet?” “Actually, I don’t.”, you blushed as you felt her gaze on you.  A shy smile crept on Leilas lips as she offered: “If you want, you could stay with me.”
“I’d like that.” It was Mapis hurt voice which made you both shriek:”You’ll leave us?” The disappointed look in your friend’s eye made you reach out to her, trying to console the injured player: “Mapi.” “Really?”, she shook her head.
You nodded shyly; “Yes, I’ll join Manchester City in January.“ Alexia appeared on Mapis side with a proud smile; “About time.“ Aitana and her sister joined the conversation, holding each other by their hand. “Agreed“, the younger Bonmati sister beamed.
Aitana gave you an empathetic look; “We’ll miss you. But you and Leila need to be together again.“ Even Patri has left her position as the DJ and appeared next to you; “Yes, your happiness matters more. Plus, you two can always come back to visit us.“ “Yes.“
A gentle squeeze on your arm made you look up, Ona flashed you an encouraging smile. All those kind words from your team-mates have made your eyes well up with tears.
You carefully dabbed at your watering eyes while Mapi announced; “I think that calls for a group hug right at the start of the new year!“ “Oh yes. And Manchester will be happy to have you both.“, Lucy added with a wink.
Before you could say anything, you found yourself in a tight huddle with your teammates and friends. Alexias voice came from somewhere to your right; “Careful with my wife!“ “Ale, she’s fine!“, Mapi replied. You could basically hear her role her eyes at the midfielder.
“The girls will never change, huh?“, Leila asked, her lips close to your ear. You laughed happily; “Never!“ “Good that you’re coming to Manchester then.“, she replied amused. With all your friends around you, you turned to Leila and kissed her passionately. The new year couldn’t start fast enough.
Happy New Year! We hope you've/ had a great NYE. As always comments and likes are appreciated. ❤️

Oh boy! It’s been a minute!! Apparently my motivation decided to go on a long holiday! Based off this lovely request. Hope you guys enjoy! Let me know what you guys think!
Leila Ouahabi X Reader
Strong. Powerful. Intimidating. When asked to describe you, most people used one of those three words. You were the type of person that drew attention when you entered a room. You stand over 6 feet and are built like a brick wall if that wasn’t daunting enough your tattoos and your resting bitch face added to it even more. Your appearance did not give off a warm and fuzzy vibe. Most people tended to give you a wide berth both on and off the soccer pitch. You'd long accepted the fact that most people found you intimidating and unapproachable, especially people who didn’t know you. When you were younger, it had bothered you but as you grew older you'd embraced your image. You were actually painfully shy so being unapproachable ensured your comfort. If people actually attempted to get through your tough outer facade, they quickly realized that you were much more than a muscled and tattooed soccer player. Only the people closest to you knew about your soft side and even fewer knew about who really were under your tough exterior.
After picking up an injury during the first part of the season you'd decided that you wanted a change. You loved Portland but so much had happened that you needed a fresh start . You’d always dreamed of playing in Europe and Manchester City was interested in you. You'd signed with Manchester City and quickly began your journey abroad. It didn't take you long to fall in love with Manchester. You spent most of your practicing and working out, preparing for the upcoming season but when you weren't doing something with soccer you were able to enjoy your other passion, music, specifically playing the violin. You'd been playing the violin for as long as you could remember which was almost as long as you'd been playing soccer. Your father pushed your athletic talent while your mother pushed your musical talent. They honestly didn't expect you to fall in love with both activities. Soccer might have become your greatest love but the violin was a very close second. After your mom passed, playing the violin became your way of feeling close to her. It brought you a sense of comfort that only your mom used to. Nevertheless, you didn't share your musical talent with many people. Only a handful of your former teammates knew you even played an instrument and even fewer knew how talented you were.
Preseason flies by and soon you're into the start of your season and to be honest you're pretty disappointed with how everything was going. You've been bounced out of the Champions League and now nothing seems to be going the team's way. You admire your teammates, instead of pointing fingers and blaming one another, the team builds off the disappointments. It doesn't take long for things to fall into place.
Even as things are beginning to start clicking for the team, your reputation still keeps most of your teammates at arm's length. A few teammates make a point to try and get to know you although you catch glimpses of hesitation from most of them, all except one. Leila Ouahabi. The Spanish woman isn't intimidated by you in the slightest. Leila pokes fun at you, teasing you whenever the opportunity arises. Even when you level her with one of your infamous looks the Spanish woman merely laughs at you before rolling her eyes. Leila intrigues you and without really trying she begins to slowly break down your walls and before you know it you find yourself willingly letting her in. The two of you slowly begin to spend more time together. Pre-training coffee turns into lunch which turns into movie marathons and exploring the city. Leila laughs that you're insistent on paying every time but you don't miss the way she blushes when you remember her coffee order. You quickly find yourself falling completely head over heels for Leila as the defender helps melt your icy armor.
Your teammates notice how different you are when the defender is near. You smile and laugh more whenever the defender is around. Even with Leila breaking down your walls, you still maintain your tough exterior with most of your teammates. Steph, Deyna and Demi all seem to brush off your icy exterior while some of the others remain intimated. You're just outside the locker room when someone collides into you. You carefully hide your smile when you hear the small yelp when the person who ran into realizes what they've done.
"Sorry y/n. I-I didn't see you!" Lauren Hemp quickly stutters out.
You merely look down at the young forward before dryly responding "You're fine."
“Uhh, right okay. Sorry again. Umm bye!” The forward all but sprints away from you.
Turning to watch her go, you smile softly, shaking your head as you silently laugh.
"You enjoy that way too much, y/n." A voice scolds from behind you.
"Hey, I didn't do anything." You turn to look at Leila, Demi and Steph as they exit the locker room. The Spanish woman grabs your arm squeezing affectionately as she pulls you along with her. You smile quickly as you fall into step with her.
"You're fine? Seriously? You sound like an ax murderer." Steph says as she pushes your shoulder. Your eyes are too focused on Leila to notice the looks exchanged between your other two teammates.
“I’m sorry? What was I supposed to say? I was afraid if I did anything more she might pass out.” you laugh wrapping your arm around Leila’s shoulder as you all head out towards the training grounds. Later in practice when Hempo scores a game winner for your team, you're the first one to reach her. You quickly pick the forward and spin her around as the rest of your teammates join you both in celebrating. When you let her down, you press a kiss into Hempo’s forehead and you can’t help but laugh out loud at the blush spreading across the forward’s face. Leila shakes her head gently punching your side when she walks past you as she tells you to be nice and stop torturing Hempo.
******
“Your heart eyes are showing.” Steph Houghton whispers as she leans over towards Leila as the two watch as you sit on the floor playing with Demi’s son Harlen. Demi had brought the young boy with her to the training center and much to the surprise of almost everyone the two of you had become fast friends. Every free moment that you had you would make your way over to the young baby.
"Stop it. I think it's sweet." Leila can't stop the blush that spreads across her cheeks as she lightly pushes Steph away from her. When Leila looks back at you and Harlen, you're already looking at her, a soft expression on your face. When she makes eye contact with you, you smile at her before turning your attention back to Harlen. Leila continues to watch you enjoying the softer side of you that you rarely allow to be seen.
*******
You're standing in front of your locker in just your shorts and sports bra, your pregame music drifts through your earbuds as you pull your stuff out of your bag. You're focused on getting ready but you're not oblivious to everything going around you, you can feel a set of eyes on you, watching you. When you turn to look behind you, you can't help but smirk when you realize that Leila is blatantly staring at you from across the dressing room. The defender's eyes follow the path of the tattoos that adorn your body and you don’t miss the way the defender’s focus lingers on your arms and your abs. You and Lelia had been toeing the line between friendship and something more. You knew your feelings for the defender ran deeper than just friends but you weren’t entirely sure what the defender was looking for.
You turn around content to let the defender stare while you listen to your music. You’re so into your head that you don't realize that someone is standing behind you until they reach out and pull your ear bud out of your ear, turning around when you come face to face with Leila as she slips the earbud into her own ear. You smile slightly at the look of surprise on her face when she hears what you're actually listening to.
“Not your normal pregame music, huh?” you ask knowing that the Spanish woman didn’t expect you to be listening to the type of music you were listening to right before a game.
“Is this Joaquin Rodrigo?” Lelia asks, looking at you with a confused expression.
“You recognize Rodrigo?” you asked, impressed that Leila recognized the classical music you were listening to. “ It's Concierto de Aranjuez. It’s one of my favorites. I always listen to classical music pregame. It helps keep me calm and doesn’t let me get into my head too much.”
Leila smiles softly at you. “You're just full of surprises aren’t you, Y/N.” she whispers before placing your earbud back in your ear before pressing a soft kiss to your cheek. You can feel the blush spread across your cheeks as Leila turns and walks back towards her locker. You quickly glance around the room and find Ellie and Alex staring at you both with knowing smirks on their faces. Thankfully a staff member comes into the locker room claiming everyone’s attention before the duo can tease you.
*****
It's a few days before the Derby when you catch Leila snooping in your closet. A few of your teammates were coming over to have a movie night and Leila invited herself over to get ready at your apartment. You've just turned off the shower when you hear the distinct click of your violin case. You quickly get partially dressed before heading out of the bathroom towards the closet. When you stop at the door you can see Leila is looking through a scrapbook while your violin case rests against the dresser still open. You don't have to see the scrapbook to know what fills its pages. Your mother had spent hours putting together that book along with several others.
"That's from the last year I did competitions. It broke my mom’s heart when I picked soccer over violin." You say softly. Leila jumps at the sound of your voice clearly too engrossed in the book to notice you standing there.
A blush quickly spreads across the woman's face. Leila looks at you guiltily before dropping her head, "I'm sorry. I was looking for your dirty clothes hamper and the case caught my attention. I was curious as to why you had a violin case then I saw the scrapbook. You never told me that you played."
"It's not something I share with a lot of people." You coldly reply, a clear indication that you were putting your armor up. simply walking toward Leila and closing the case before taking the scrapbook from her. You reach behind the defender to pull a box off the shelf before placing the book inside.
You turn to walk out of the closet when Leila grabs your hand to stop you, "Will you play for me, please?"
You stare at Leila for a moment, the Spanish looking at you with pleading eyes. Eyes that you were quickly realizing you could never say no to. You sigh softly as you turn back, pulling the case off of the dresser, "Close that box and come on."
The happy squeal that leaves the defender's mouth draws a small smile from you. You shake your head before heading into your living room. By the time Leila makes it into the room you've already applied the rosin to your bow and have started tuning the violin. Once the defender sits down, you clear your throat. You stand in front of the couch near the window just as the last rays of sunlight shine through. Leila admires the sunlight as it shines over you. You take a deep breath before bringing the violin to rest firmly under your jaw. You close your eyes and take one more deep breath before drawing the bow across the strings as you start to play from memory.
Leila watches you play expertly with precision and ease. Your movements flow naturally. It's a beautiful site. She's amazed at the way the bow glides across the strings, how you change the pressure so easily but what amazes her even more is the look on your face. You look so relaxed and at peace. Leila's not sure she's ever seen or heard anything as beautiful as you right now. The defender sits completely entranced by you.
When you finish the song you stand for a moment, eyes closed, violin poised perfectly under your jaw before quickly turning towards your violin case trying to avoid looking at Leila as your heart races. It’s the first time you’ve ever played for anyone. You're placing your bow in the case when you hear Leila stand from the coach and it's just a few seconds before you feel a hand rest on your back, rubbing small circles. You close your eyes and you can feel your walls starting to crumple even more. You feel Leila pressed against your side, her other hand coming to rest against your cheek forcing you to look at her. You finally give in, turning to face her when you look down you realize how close she is.
“Y/n, that was beautiful. Thank you for trusting me enough to play for me,” the Spanish woman presses a soft kiss to your cheek. Leila has a lot of questions but it's obvious you don't want to talk about it. As Leila starts to pull away from you, you quickly reach out for her pulling her back into you. The two of you stare at one another both searching the other's face for any sign of hesitancy before you both slowly lean in before connecting your lips. The kiss is gentle and soft which catches Leila by surprise at first but then you quickly increase the intensity. When breathing finally becomes an issue you break apart, only separating enough to share a breath. You press a kiss to Leila’s forehead before resting your head against it.
The two of you stand together in silence for a moment before you speak, “Can I.. Do you-I.." Your nerves are getting the best of you, you sigh deeply before Leila pulls you into another kiss. The kiss quickly becomes heated but before it can progress any further you and Leila are both startled apart by someone knocking on your apartment door.
"Go finish getting dressed. I'll get the door," Leila says before pressing another kiss to your lips instead of letting her pull away from you, you deepen the kiss, but just as Leila gets lost in the kiss you pull away.
"We will finish this later." You whisper as Leila tries to chase your lips. You can't help but laugh as you can hear Leila muttering in Spanish as you walk back towards your bedroom to finish getting dressed.
After you've finished getting dressed you return to your living room to find several of your teammates scattered about. You smile politely opting to head into the kitchen instead of going directly into the living room. Even after all these months, you still had moments where your insecurities showed through.
You are standing at the counter filling your glass with water when you feel a hand rub across your lower back. You smile instantly, raising your arm to allow the person to slide closer. You squeeze her shoulder tight as you press a soft kiss to her hairline, before whispering, "Hi".
Leila smiles back at you, letting her arms encircle you completely. The two of you stand together for a moment before Leila breaks the silence, "We went ahead and ordered some food while you were getting ready. I just got our normal from the sushi place we like. Figured we'd share."
"Sounds good. Thank you." You squeeze Leila again.
"I really just wanted sushi and figured if I ordered you some you'd go along with it," Leila jokes, poking you in the ribs as you roll your eyes. Leila continues, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay. Just nervous," you smile softly. It was comforting that Leila noticed something was bothering you. You were used to people not noticing your shyness but obviously Leila had.
"It is your apartment. We could just kick them all out and watch that movie you like." Lelia reasons, clearly intrigued by the idea, “Or we could just leave and go to my apartment.”
"And you tell me, I'm mean." You laugh lightly pushing Leila away.
"No, I said you enjoy them being afraid of you too much. Honestly though I don't know why anyone is afraid of you. You're really just a big teddy bear." The defender whispers as she pulls away from you.
"Only for you Ouahabi. Don't tell my secret." You smile as you turn to follow the Spanish woman.
"No way. I want to keep you for myself." Leila laughs over her shoulder as heads into the living room with your teammates. You can't help the blush that creeps across your face as you follow Leila into the living room.
It takes you a few minutes to warm up to your guests but soon you're enjoying yourself and your company. Leila stays close to you, always within arms reach. You're unsure of where the two of you officially stand but instead of second guessing yourself you choose to carry on like the two of you normally do. Your teammates notice the closeness, you don't miss the glances exchanges between Deyna, Laia, Alex and Ellie. Thankfully they all remain silent, opting instead to watch the interactions between the two of you.
You're coming back from the toilet when you hear the surprised tone of Ellie coming from the living room, "Wait, you're telling me that Pride and Prejudice is Y/n's favorite movie?"
"Sí. Yes. W-She watches it all the time," Leila answers, clearly unsure as to why your teammates seem so surprised, "She knows almost every single line."
"Now we have to watch it, if it's Y/n's favorite. I've never watched it," Deyna declares, turning back to the television. You can hear the murmur of agreement amongst the remaining teammates.
"You'll have to change the language and turn the subtitles off," You say as you make your presence known. You can't help but smirk as everyone sans Leila jumps at the sound of your voice. When everyone shoots you a questioning look you continue, "It's probably still in Spanish from when I watched it yesterday."
"You speak Spanish?" Alanna asks as you reach and take the remote from Alex.
"Nope." You reply simply focusing your attention on fixing the settings on the television.
"Then why were you watching it in Spanish, if you don't speak Spanish?," Ellie asks, confused.
"Lindsey suggested it," you shrug before continuing, "Said it helped her when she was learning French, watching a movie you know in the language you were trying to learn with English subtitles. So, I did."
"But why Spanish?" Laia asks, "You could've just asked one of us to teach you"
"Wanted it to be a surprise," you shrug while not taking your eyes off the screen. Once you've fixed the television you head to turn the lights off before continuing, "I know it's been a difficult adjustment since leaving Spain and I wanted to do something that might make you feel a little better. I can't help with the weather but I thought if I could learn some Spanish it might help. Granted, I thought I'd be much further along by now." You sit on the end of the lounge chair at Leila's feet as you fínish your explanation. Everyone looks at you with a mixture of surprise and admiration. You quickly press play murmuring for everyone to watch the movie.
Leila lightly taps you with her foot before motioning for you to join her in the chair. You quietly slide beside her before she turns snuggling into your chest as the opening scene plays on the screen. Your teammates quickly become lost in the movie leaving you and Leila in your own little world. You quietly pull Leila’s hair tie out of her hair running your fingers through the dark tresses. You quietly whisper along with the movie much to Leila’s amusement, the Spanish women more interested in watching you than the movie. You continued to intrigue the defender it seemed like the more time that she spent with you the more unseen layers that were revealed.
****
It's Derby Day. The excitement is palpable throughout the stadium. You've got a good feeling. You're excited although your face looks more like you'd rather be anywhere else. You've already finished with the pregame pitch inspection and receiving the final adjustments from the coaching staff. Your game face firmly in place, your icy exterior unyielding as you stand in the tunnel with your teammates and the United players waiting for the game to start.
"Y/n! Y/n!" You hear your name being called as you turn, you see two of your students scrambling towards you. You quickly break out into a large smile as both of them launch themselves into your arms. Both kids chatter excitedly to you about everything that they have gotten to see so far. You listen intently, the smile never leaving your face. While listening to them everything else melts away and you forget where you are. Izzie and Matthew were two of your beginner students but the twins had quickly become some of your favorites.
“Y/n. Can we walk out with you?” Matthew asks as Izzie quickly grabs your hand to hold.
“Well, I don’t see why not. Come on.” you smile down at the young boy before offering your hand for them to hold. The three of you talk quietly amongst yourselves until it's time to walk out onto the pitch. You’re not paying attention to anyone else other than the two young mascots with you, so you miss the bewildered looks exchanged between your teammates as well as the United players. Ona shooting Leila a questioning look to which the older Spanish woman rolls her eyes whiles shaking her head at the younger woman.
When you finally get to the field Matthew and Izzie excitedly point out their parents to you. You smile and wave alongside the twins before the anthem is played. Once the anthem is over you quickly pull the two mascots into a tight hug before sending them on their way. The two call out that they will see you tomorrow as they scurry off after the other mascots. You can’t keep the smile from your face as you watch the two run off.
When you turn back to your team several of them are staring at you with curious expressions on their faces. “What?” you ask as the smile drops your face only to be replaced by your normal scowl.
“You’re smiling. It’s kind of creepy to be honest.” Hempo says as she smirks at you, clearly trying to annoy you.
“Oh, piss off. I can still kick your ass.” you retort, turning back towards the sideline. You miss the way that Lelia slaps Hempo on the back of the head, telling the rest of your teammates to leave you alone.
The game ends in a draw. As you make your way towards the crowd of fans that have made their way to the barriers. You squeeze between Deyna and Chloe making your way slowly make your way through the crowd, signing things and taking pictures with the fans. You make light conversation with the fans, never saying more than a few words to any of them.
"Y/n, think you've got a bit of a fan over here!" Steph calls out to you before pointing out a young girl. You smile softly at the woman in front of you before excusing yourself and heading towards your captain.
"Hi there. What's your name?" You smile down and the small redhead who ducks her head shyly when she realizes you've come to see her.
"Lily," the small redhead mumbles looking down at her hands before looking back up at you.
"It's nice to meet you, Lily. Thank you for coming to the game. I hope you enjoyed it" You smile down at the girl before offering your hand for the young girl to shake. Once she shakes your hand it's like a whole different child comes out. Her shyness seemingly gone, the young girl launches into detail about all her favorite moments from the game. You can't help but to smile as you listen to her.
After a few more minutes you hear your name being called by the coaching staff. "Well Lily, I've got to go. It was a pleasure to meet you. I hope I'll get to see you at a game again soon." You smile at the young girl before offering your hand to shake one more time.
"Can I have your shirt? My mum told me I had to ask you myself if I wanted it." Lily blurts out before once again, returning shy.
"Of course, but fair warning. It's a bit dirty and smelly," you laugh, quickly pulling your jersey over your head before asking, "Would you like me to sign it?"
Lily shakes her head so hard you're pretty sure it might fly off her shoulders. You quickly sign the shirt before posing for a picture. You say goodbye to the fans before turning towards the field, stopping by the cooler to grab a drink before quickly downing half the bottle when you can feel someone watching you. You turn just in time to see Steph slap Leila in the back of the head as Deyna playfully wipes at her face. Leila playfully shoves Deyna and Steph both before looking up at you, the blush on her face deepening when she realizes you're looking right at her. You only quirk and eyebrow before smirking at her shaking your head as you head into the tunnel.
You're just inside the tunnel when someone slips under your arm. You shiver slightly at the cold jersey against your bare abdomen.
"I forgot how good you are with kids. I thought it was cute. I thought you were cute," Leila smiles looking up at you.
"Leila Ouahabi, are you flirting with me?" you smile playfully squeezing Leila's hip, your hand slipping under the defender's shirt as you teasingly rub your thumb over Leila's side just barely grazing the bottom of her sports bra. You can feel the goosebumps that break out across Leila's skin and when you look at her you can't help but smirk at the blush creeping onto the defender's neck.
"Y/n! Since when did you learn how to smile?''Chloe yells as she and Hempo come around the corner. "Uhh…Did we interrupt something?" Hempo asks, looking at where your hand is still under Leila's shirt.
"Nope." You reply sweetly, squeezing Leila's side one more time before removing your hand from her shirt as you press a kiss to Leila's head before whispering, "Next time, I’ll keep my shirt on so I won’t distract you when you're talking to Steph."
You shoot a glance over your shoulder as you reach the locker room and you can’t help the laughter that escapes when you see all three of your teammates staring at one another sporting the same blush.
***
A few days later you are standing off to the side during a water break watching your teammates with a soft smile on your face when you feel a presence beside you. Turning your met with the knowing smirk of Steph Houghton. “What?” You ask, unable to hide the amusement in your voice.
“It’s nice. That’s all.” When you only raise your eyebrow the Englishwoman continues, “You are smiling. You seem happy. It’s nice.”
“I am happy.” You reply letting your eyes settle in Leila and Hempo as they joke around with Alex and Deyna.
“Am I supposed to pretend that I don’t know who’s responsible for that?” Steph questions turning to look at you.
Without ever taking your eyes off your teammates you answer honestly, “She’s a big part of it but I’m happy here with the team. I’m happy here with you guys. You’ve all accepted me from the beginning, never pushing me to be someone I’m not. Leila’s a big part of it, don't get me wrong but she’s not the only reason.”
Steph smiles brightly at you before laughing, “You know. I’ve always liked you as a player but I think I like you as a person even more. You’re a pretty great person y/n and we’ve always got your back. Don’t forget that.”
You quietly thank the Englishwoman as a blush dusts your cheeks. Steph doesn’t get the chance to say anything else before practice is being called back into session.
****
The winter break is upon you before you know it. Before everyone makes their ways to their respective homes the team decides to get together one last time. The Christmas party was in full swing and most of your teammates were enjoying a slight buzz. You, Julie and Ippa were sitting at the table sipping your drinks slowly while quietly talking amongst yourselves whilst most of your teammates were taking pictures. The three of you content to remain bystanders.
“You guys! Come take a picture with us!” A red faced Hempo calls out to you.
“I’m good. Thanks though.” You smile not making a move to join the photography session. You turn to look and see Leila making her way towards you. You can’t help but to stare watching at the Spanish woman, still amazed that you got to call her yours. Suddenly there’s someone plopping down in your lap before quickly wrapping their arms around you.
“Hey Raso, watcha doing?” You laugh looking up at the clearly tipsy Australian.
“I just want you to know. You’re fucking amazing. Like this you, the real you. Not that person I played with in Portland. Like you’ve always been a great soccer player but you’re actually a really great person too. Behind all that tough exterior you're actually pretty great!” Hayley launches into a speech waving her hand as she speaks pulling you closer to her with every word.
“Hayley, thank you and I love you but you’re drunk.” You laugh. “Izzy. Come get your girl.”
“No, I mean yes I’m buzzin but I’m being serious.I feel like I’m meeting the real you for the first time. It's nice. I like it.” Hayley continues.
“Well aren’t aren’t you full of compliments tonight,” you laugh pushing Hayley out of your lap and into Izzy’s direction. Turning you to find Leila, you catch her standing just over your shoulder smiling softly at you. You quickly pull the Spanish woman into your lap, wrapping her arms around her waist as you are pressing a kiss behind her ear before turning your attention back to the table. You're listening to Ellie’s story about her dog when you feel Leila playing with your hand, the Spanish woman slowly rubbing her fingers across the calluses formed on your fingertips. The Spanish woman had explained that she’d noticed the calluses long before finding out what caused them and that she loved the feeling of them on her skin. The roughness of the calluses are in stark contrast to the gentleness of your touch. It’s almost like the Spanish woman can’t get enough of your touch. You slowly slide your hand under Leila’s jacket wanting to feel the warmth of the defender's skin. When you feel Leila shutter you realize that your hand might actually be colder than you thought. When you apologize quickly before trying to remove your hand but the defender traps it against her body, “No,” the defender leaves no room for discussion. Leila merely presses a kiss into your head before turning back to Laia and Deyna. You blush as the Spanish woman’s touch continues to make your heart race.
You finally turn away from Leila you met with the soft smile of Steph. You smile back at the before playfully rolling your eyes and making a face at the defender, who laughs back at you. As the Christmas party starts to wind down you look around as your teams are laughing and joking with each other. You can’t help but to smile, when you came to Manchester you were looking for a new start and you feel like you found it. You feel like you found the missing pieces that you didn’t know you needed. You think of how you could show your teammates how much you appreciate them but words were never your strong suit. Your mind drifts back to the night you played for Leila. One thing Leila said sticking out in particular. “Thank you for trusting me”. Your thoughts are interrupted as a hand reaches and tucks a strand of hair behind your ear.
Looking up you met Leila’s eyes. The dark eyes that you have grown to love are full of understanding. It’s like Leila knows what you’re thinking without you having to say a word. The two of you have spent many nights under the security of darkness sharing all the secrets you never shared with anyone else, so the Spanish woman knows you better than anyone else. She knows that under your tough exterior you’re truly one of the most compassionate and caring people she’s ever met. Your toughness only serves as a means of protection. She loves you but she loves you even more when you let your armor down and let people in.
“You should play for them.” Leila whispers before pressing a kiss to your temple. “They’ll love it.”
“You think so?” You are unsure of your idea.
“Sí, I think they’d be crazy not to. Especially when you explain what it means to you.” Leila smiles at you.
Suddenly the moment is interrupted by Steph “Hey lovebirds, we’ve closed the place down. We’re trying to figure out where to go now.”
You realize this is your now or never moment, “Would you guys like to come back to our place? I’ve got something I want to show you guys before everyone leaves for holiday.”
“Our place?” Hempo smirks, laughing at Leila's seemingly surprised expression.
“Oh please the guy that works the desk at night knows you by name, and besides all your stuff is there anyway. You playfully poke Leila in the ribs. You had been thinking about asking Leila to move in with you for a while but hadn’t actually gotten around to officially asking the Spanish woman.
“Fine, Fine. Let’s go home.” Leila rolls her eyes. You don’t miss the blush creeping across skin or the giddy smile that she sports. Thankfully the Spanish woman was just as in love with you as you were with her.
Its been nearly an hour since the group left the Christmas party and you’ve spent the last 10 minutes pacing back and forth in the living room muttering to yourself going back and forth on whether this was going to be a good idea. Leila watches you from the couch, the defender starts to worry you're going to wear a hole in the floor with your pacing. Finally having enough, the Spanish woman rises from the coach and comes to stand in front of you, forcing you to stop your pacing.
“Mi amor, stop.” Leila pulls you closer to her while interlacing your fingers together.
“I just.. I’m nervous. Baby, what if they think it’s stupid?” You ask looking down at the floor. Your insecurities were trying to get the best of you.
“Cariño, they will not think it’s stupid, I promise. They’re going to love it. You’re showing them how much they mean to you by sharing something you’ve never shared with your teammates before. It’s going to mean so much to them,” Leila presses a kiss to the underside of your jaw before joking, “Hempo might even cry.”
You burst out laughing, the Spanish woman’s words having the desired effect at breaking your spiral. You quickly pull Leila impossibly closer, your eyes scanning her face before you speak, “Thank you. Not just for this but for everything. Thank you for giving me a chance but mostly thank you for loving me. I love you so much Leila.” You press a firm kiss to Leila’s forehead before pressing one to her lips.
“Te amo, cariño. Te amo mucho.” Leila whispers before pulling you into a deep kiss. The kiss quickly heats up as you guide Leila toward the couch. Your hands sliding effortlessly under Leila’s shirt as she tangles her hands in your hair while you guide her down onto the couch. Just as Leila’s back hits the couch cushions, the doorbell rings.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” You growl, frustrated at the time of your teammates.
Leila laughs at you before pressing one more kiss to your lips, “You’re the one who invited them, remember.”
“But Baby.” You whine not moving from where you're resting on top of the defender burying your head in the crook of her neck pressing kisses to the exposed skin.
Leila laughs pressing a kiss just below your ear before whispering in your ear, “Don’t worry we’ll have plenty of time to celebrate. I’m not planning on letting you out of OUR bed at all tomorrow.”
You quickly look up at Leila with a hopeful expression before leaping off the couch, “You my dear have yourself a deal. Go let them in, I'm gonna go get my violin.”
Leila can’t help but watch you walk away with a noticeable pep in your step. The Spanish woman still can’t believe that she gets to see this side of you. The playful carefree side that you keep hidden away from everyone. Well, used to keep hidden, you’ve become a nearly completely different person than you were when you first came to Manchester. You're on the field persona no longer being your off the field one. Once cold and stoic now you’re warm and full of laughter.
You head into your closet pulling out your violin case carefully preparing the rosin and bow then tuning the violin until the sound is perfect. Once your tasks are complete you can feel your nerves setting in. You take a deep breath before slowly letting it out. Your eyes fall onto one of the photographs on your dresser and you feel a sense of comfort come over you. It’s a picture of you and your parents, you and your mom both smiling at the camera, violins poised at your jaws while your dad looks at you both wearing a proud smile. Leila found it in one of the scrapbooks and had been insistent that you put it in a frame. You can hear the commotion coming from the living room, your teammates' voices floating down the hallway. You quickly grab your violin and bow before heading back into the living room.
Once you come into view you can’t help but smile at your teammates most of whom have made themselves at home. Hempo has apparently already raided the cabinet as she and Esme share a bag of crisps. Ellie and Alanna have claimed your bean bag chair as Alex is sprawled behind them. A few others are at your kitchen table attempting to figure out the puzzle that you and Leila have long abandoned. Just then Leila comes out of the kitchen carrying a stool only to be followed by Deyna and Laia. When she sees you Leila sets the stool down and crosses the room, pulling you into a soft kiss before heading back to rest against the back of the couch.
Suddenly all eyes fall on you and the violin in your hand. You watch as everyone sans Leila looks at you with curious expressions. You clear your throat before you speak, “So, umm… I know it’s really random but I asked you guys here for a reason…but I wanted to show you guys something; something I’ve not shared with people in a long time. I’ve never trusted anyone much less my teammates enough to really let them see the real me. Until now anyway. So if you guys don’t mind I’d like to play for you just as a way to say thank you before we all leave to go on holiday.”
You slowly bring the violin up to rest under your jaw, taking a deep breath and you begin to play. The soft notes flowing from your fingertips with ease. You quickly lose yourself in the music as the room falls away. Your doubts and worries disappear as you transition from one note to the next. As you finish, the last note you look at Leila who watches you intently sporting a massive smile before shooting you a wink. You can’t help but to smile back. The room is silent for a moment but before you can glance around the silence is broken.
“Holy Shit.” Sandy mumbles loudly, clearly impressed.
You laugh awkwardly rubbing the back of your neck before murmuring softly, “Yeah.” The entire room erupts, questions and comments are being thrown at you and you can’t answer one before someone else is asking another. You smile softly, sparing a glance at Leila once more, the Spanish one smiles again before rolling her eyes. Several of your teammates quickly make their way over to you asking you questions about your playing while the others look at your violin. You are talking to Julie when you realize Leila isn’t in the living room anymore turning to look for her. You turn to see her and Steph talking quietly in the hallway seemingly in a deep conversation.
After your teammates are over their initial shock and questions your teammates decide they want to hear you play again. A few belt out random requests while a few ask you to pick a few songs to play for them. Several different songs run through your mind but then you feel a soft touch that you instantly recognize.
Leila stands beside you smiling softly, “Play that one you played for me yesterday.”
Looking up at her, you blush slightly before nodding. You quickly pull up the music sheet on your phone before once again starting to play. Like before you play with ease and precision. The soft melody of Until I Found You flows off the violin and you see the moment that a few teammates recognize the song. As you finish the last note you bring the violin down to rest in your lap before reaching out to pull Leila into you. The Spanish woman wraps an arm around your shoulders before pressing a kiss into the top of her head. Both of you are enjoying the moment.
“Oh god. They're gonna make me sick.” Deyna fake gags causing everyone including you and Leila to burst out laughing. You laugh and talk with your teammates for the next hour sharing stories of playing your violin. You end up playing a few more songs before everyone starts to head out to their respective homes. Many of them need to finish packing before their flights for their holiday. Finally, it’s just you and Leila left. You’ve just finished locking the door and turning off the kitchen light when you see Leila carefully wiping down your violin before putting it back in the case.
You cross the room wrapping your arms around Leila pressing a kiss to her shoulder, “Gracias, mi amor.”
“De nada, hermosa.” Leila leans back into you wrapping her arms around yours. You gently sway with the Spanish woman enjoying the feeling of her being in your arms. You smile happily. It had been a long time since you’d let people in and now that you had you feel like you’re finally at peace.

Cliche (Leila Ouahabi x Leon!reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: Based off this request. I hope you guys like it and that I didn't drag it on too long.
The Leon sister's have a reputation in the women's football world but you never lied and always made your motives crystal clear. You had the rest of your lives to settle down and you planned on doing just that when you retired or got older but in the meantime you needed to find a way to relief the stress and pressure that comes with being one of the best footballer in the world and you favourite way to do so is by burying yourself in someone else.
You are fully aware that it was a cliche to sleep with your sister's best friend but when it came to Leila Ouahabi it's as if all logic goes out the window. It was never a part of your plan to mix business with pleasure especially when that business is also your sister's business but one night you and the girls were out celebrating, Mapi found herself distracted and you spent the night with Leila.
At first it only happened on nights out with the team but now you found yourself laid in bed on a random Tuesday morning, the brunette sleeping peacefully in your arms. The no sleeping over rule lasted a month not that you would complain. It was your idea but these moments with Leila had become one of your favourites.
"I broke the rule again" Leila's voice is raspy.
She squints slightly as the sun shines in her eyes but her face relaxes when you move your hand, which up until this point was playing with the loose strands of hair, and shield her from the sun.
"You seem to be doing it a lot recently. In fact I can't remember the last time you followed that rule"
Out of habit Leila begins playing with your necklace but her hand soon begins to travel lower, she gives you a knowing look as she plays with the waistband of your underwear. Whilst she herself hated to be teased, she had no issue being the teaser. No you wasn't opposed to morning sex but you had training in a couple of hours and you couldn't turn up less than 100% so you do the thing you body didn't want you to do, you grab Leila's hand and move it back to lay on your chest.
"We don't have time for that Leila"
You might have well be talking german because instead of backing down Leila hovers over you before straddling your hips.
"Are you sure about that?" The smirk on her face making it obvious that she knows the answer regardless of what might come out of your mouth next.
When her lips crash into yours you make no attempt at stopping or pushing her away. Instead you do the opposite, you deepen the kiss and in one swift movement you change the dynamics so it is now you who is on top of her.
The moment is short lived when you hear your apartment door open and your sister shout out.
"Y/N I know I'm early but I brought coffee"
This couldn't be happening. You knew she would find out eventually and you had a plan for that, one that included you in far more clothes. You were beginning to panic, a feeling that wasn't quite reciprocated when you looked down at Leila who is on the verge of laughing.
"Don't" you place your hand over her mouth.
"Y/N" Mapi sings. You can tell by the loudness of her voice that she is heading for your bedroom.
You have to think fast. You quickly strip yourself of the little clothing you have on and grab a towel which is in the laundry basket.
"Hide. Now" it wasn't question or suggestion, it was an order.
Leila tries to argue but the look you give her let's her know that nothing will make you change your mind.
She hides down the side of the bed furtherest away from the door and just in time as Mapi knocks before coming in anyways.
"I was in the shower. It's interesting to see what you class as an emergency" you tell your sister who clearly has no idea what you're talking about "the key? I gave it to you for emergencies only. Abuse the power again and I will take it off you, you know how I am about my space"
"Fine. Hurry up and get ready, your coffee's getting cold"
Once the door is closed Leila stands up wearing nothing but your bed sheet.
"I won't do that again" she says as she watched you get dressed in your training gear.
"Fine" you whisper shout "you go out there and tell your best friend that you have been fucking her sister behind her back. You wanted to keep this a secret just as much as me so don't stand there and act innocent"
Leila is taken aback at the way you described what had been going on between the two of you.
"I have spare training gear in the wardrobe. Make yourself some breakfast, you know where everything is, I will see you at training"
You kiss her quickly and you are slightly disappointed when you doesn't respond.
"Leila" her head snaps in your direction hoping to hear something a little more reassuring.
"Be careful when you pick something to wear, nothing with my number on it"
You say nothing more and within a matter of minutes Leila hears you and Mapi leave your apartment.
"No feelings Leila, it's what you agreed" She mutters to herself as she lays back on your bed.
There was a tension between the two of you at training but it seems obvious to only you and Leila or so you thought. The training was split into position drills so you wasn't working directing with her but it didn't stop your captain from noticing the lingering looks to the group of defenders. It is when you, Mapi and Alexia go to practice freekicks does she bring it up.
"Is everything ok?" Alexia whispers as you both watch Mapi practice her shot.
"Yeah, why wouldn't it be?" there's no way she knew and you weren't about to give her any clues.
"No reason" Alexia replies and you think it is the end of the conversation only it isn't "Nothing's going on in your love life or should I say sex life?"
Alexia knew, you wasn't sure how she knew but she did.
"Her sex life" Mapi wraps her arm around you shoulder "There's always something happening"
"It must be a Leon twin thing because I recall your body count been just as high as mine" you push her off you as you go to place your ball outside the box.
"Is that anyway to talk to your older sister" Mapi shouts.
"7 minutes Maria, you are 7 minutes older than me"
You rejoin the team during a drinks breaks. Leila looks at you for a second before turning her back, the action itself hurt but you couldn't bring yourself to ask why.
"You like her" Alexia continues her questioning "I can tell. What's her name?"
"Leila!" Patri shouts.
The sound of her name coming straight after Alexia's question causes you to choke on your drink and the connection isn't lost on your captain.
"You're sleeping with Leila! Are you crazy? That's your sister's best friend"
You knew Alexia would be disappointed in you. She had made her feelings towards your night time activities very clear but this was too much even for you.
Before Alexia can say anything else you pull her off the pitch and into the tunnel.
"Nobody knows" you see her eyes dart in your sister's direction "no, Mapi doesn't know and I want it to stay that way"
"How long?"
"Almost a year" you couldn't believe it had been that long and neither could Alexia.
You make a point not to get involved with anyone for long periods of time because it's gets complicated. The longest you had ever slept with someone is when you started seeing a player from the german league but even then you slept with other people in between.
"And have you been sleeping with anyone else during this time?" Alexia asks. She knew that you had trouble connecting with your feelings and if you did feel something more then you more need a little bit of encouragement to figure it out.
"Have you every thought about it being something more than sex?"
This is why you didn't want people knowing. The more people that knew the more pressure you would feel to put a label on whatever is going in between you and Leila.
"No. When we started sleeping together we both agreed that it would be a no strings attached type of thing, no feelings were to be involved"
"Y/N have you —“
"Alexia. It is sex and that's it. There is no relationship between me and Leila outside of the bedroom"
It was a difficult thing for you to say because whilst it was true at first you knew that things had changed over the past couple of months. You didn't want to break your end of the deal so you kept your feelings to yourself so that you could still spend your nights with Leila.
"Sorry to interrupt"
You hadn't heard her voice since you left your apartment this morning.
"Coach told me to come and get you. It's time for the scrimmage and you two are captains"
At first Leila couldn't look you in the eyes but when she did you saw something that make your heart break. Tears brimmed her eyes and you knew it was because of the conversation you had been having with Alexia only you wasn't sure how much she had heard.
"Alexia knows"
"Can we tell Mapi now?"
It wasn't a question you expected. As far as you were aware Leila want this to be a secret just as much as you did.
"No, we can't"
Alexia has excused herself at this point so that the two of you can talk in private.
"Right because this is just sex. We have no relationship outside of the bedroom"
She attempts to walk away but you grab her hand with a pleading look in your eyes. You know you said those words but they sounded so heartless coming out of her mouth.
"I need space. I think it's best if I go to my apartment tonight"
"Ok. I will come by after my media appearance"
"No Y/N" She pulls her hand away "I think I need to spent the night alone night"
Something wasn't right. Was she breaking up with you? No, she couldn't do that because you were never dating. Still as you watch her walk away you cannot help but feel like you are losing something you never had.
Your nights apart lasted less than a week and soon enough you and Leila was back into your old ways but something was different. She would spend the night but wouldn't stay in the mornings and she kept bringing up telling Mapi, something that you wasn't ready for.
Leila had reached her breaking point after almost been caught by Mapi again. You made her hide and once again she felt little a dirty little secret. She had a choice to make; keep the secret and keep you but lose her best friend or she could tell Mapi and inevitably lose you.
The following week Mapi came storming into the locker room one morning with Leila trailing behind her. At first you wasn't sure what had happened but then you saw Leila's face and you knew. Leila went against your wishes and had told Mapi about the two of you.
"I can't believe you!"
"Not here, not now" you reply calmly hoping your sister would mimic your energy.
"Why? What you've done affects this entire team and I won’t allow it"
The way she said what you've done as if you were in this alone. Leila who you hoped would have your back stands cowardly in her locker.
“You can’t stop me and it hasn't affected the team, you had no idea about us. I'm guessing the only reason why you do is because she told you" you don't say her name nor do you look in her direction.
"What's going on?" Alexia asks as she enters the locker room upon hearing the both of you raising your voices.
"Tell her Y/N"
You know what you are about to say is going to hurt but why should you care for your sister's feelings when it is clear she doesn't care for yours.
Alexia glances back and forth between the two of you then she looks at Leila and she knows what had happened.
"She doesn't have to tell me. I already know"
"Know what?" Jenni asks. She can tell by the reaction of the team that she isn't the only one that feels left in the dark about whatever it is that's going on.
“That my dear sister has been sleeping with my best friend” Mapi points from you to Leila, just for clarification.
“And what is wrong with that?” You may not have told your sister or the rest of the team for that matter but you didn’t do anything wrong and you wasn’t ashamed of the time you shared with Leila.
“You can’t just sleep with whoever you want” Mapi scold you “I have seen you when we travel for the champions league. You sleep with our opponents. You can’t—“
“I can’t what? Come home and sleep with the Spanish league. No I can’t because they have already have their taste of one Leon. You used to be just like me”
“She is my friend and our team mate”
You couldn’t help but laugh. Surely Mapi heard the hypocrisy in what she was saying. You looked towards Ana, your eyes filled with apology for what you are about to say.
“Hmm where shall I start” you walk towards your sister.
“Y/N don’t” Alexia tries to drag you back out fails.
“No, no. She started this” you turn your attention from your captain to your sister “friend and team mate, where shall I start. Alba is a good friend of mine and you slept with her. V is one of my best friend and you slept with her. Then we have Ana who is one of my closest friends on this team, you broke her heart, messed up the team dynamics and you are making her watch you be with someone else which brings me to my last person, Ingrid, who I have no problem with in fact I like her and think she’s good you. What I’m saying is you sit there on you fucking high horse speaking down to me like I’ve committed some kind of crime” you angrily wipe the few tears that have fallen down your cheeks.
“And you” you turn to Leila “you told her when you knew how I felt. Did you ever stop to think why I wanted this to say between us? Why things have been so different with you? I changed every single one of my beliefs for you and for what? You proved why I don't do relationships. I don’t know what you gained from this but it certainly isn’t me. You once asked for space, congratulations you have it. Whatever we had is over, I’m done, we’re done”
Leila was in shock. Was this your way of admitting you wanted a relationship with her.
“Was that so hard?” Mapi says smugly.
“Shut up Maria. Me and Leila may be done but we’re done too. You’re suppose to be my sister and I didn’t deserve to be spoken to like that. I want nothing to do with either of you”
You didn’t turn up to training the next day and missed recovery the day after that. It seemed like the whole team was worried about you but the calmness that radiated off your coach and captain let them know that you were ok and the two of them knew where you were.
“I have heard you speaking about Y/N and her whereabouts. I have decided to rest her for Saturdays game and after I told her she asked for a few days off which I think she’s deserved given that she has played the most minutes this season. It will be business as usual after international break.” Jona and the coaching staff leave the meeting room unaware of the interrogation they are passing on to the team’s captain.
As soon as the staff are out the room everyone begins asking questions about you.
“Enough!” Alexia slams her hands down on the table. She had enough of the questions and the other players pointing the finger at Leila and Mapi for your absence. She agreed with the rest of the girls but as the captain she had to remain neutral.
“Go home, enjoy international break and I’ll see you back here in 10 days time” they knew better than to argue with their captain so they do as their told “not you two”
Names aren’t required. It is obvious which two Alexia is referring to.
“I wanted to wait a couple of days for things to calm down but when Y/N called me telling me she needed to getaway for a few days I knew the chances of this resolving naturally wouldn’t happen”
Both Mapi and Leila sit down. The situation had escalation quickly and they knew that they had messed up. Leila regretted telling your sister and Mapi let her her emotions get the better of her.
“I’m going to talk now and you two are going to listen”
When Alexia got no arguments from the pair she continued.
“Y/N was right when she spoke about your history Mapi. Amongst the names Y/N gave the other day was my sister’s. I know she is part of our group but Alba is still my little sister, she is someone you slept with and then dropped when you got bored. Y/N is the reason why I didn’t come to your house the night I came home to Alba crying in your sister’s arms. Even when she knew you were in the wrong, Y/N had your back”
The was news to Mapi. She thought Alexia understood her sister was a big girl who could make her own decisions and as she has the thought she realises, once again, just how hypocritical she was.
“But she didn’t tell me about this. We tell each other everything” This is the reason for Mapi’s reaction. It might not have come across this way but she was hurt that you didn’t tell her about this.
“There is reason why she didn’t tell you but it isn’t for me to say. Y/N has to come to that realisation herself” Alexia is vague in her response, leaving the two defenders rather confused.
“She was ashamed” Leila says the only answer that makes sense.
It wasn’t a easy decision to tell Mapi about the two of you sleeping together but she thought that once it was out there then the two of you could have a chance at something more.
“That isn’t true and it’s not fair for you to put this on her. She told me you had been sleeping together for a year and in that time you never told Mapi about it yet it’s Y/N who is getting the blame for this when you played just as big of a part”
“A year?” Mapi asks making to obvious that Leila left that detail out when she told her about to two of you.
“A full year and in that time Y/N didn’t sleep with anyone else, it was only you Leila”
“You’re lying. Y/N doesn’t do that type of commitment” Mapi knew how you thought because she had the same rule for years.
“She told me herself. I know it may not seem like it but she cared for you Leila and she showed you in her own way”
“Back to backs” Leila whispers.
“What did you say?” Mapi asks.
“You know her rules” your sister nods “one of them was no back to back stays but I have done that a few times”
It's like puzzle pieces were connecting in her head. You had let her get closer to you than anyone else but Leila was blinded by being a secret and she didn’t notice it.
“I might have overreacted” Mapi admits “It’s jus she’s my sister and I don’t want her making the same mistakes I did. She was right when she spoke about Ana, I guess I didn’t want her to face the same fate I did”
“I think you both owe her an apology” Alexia tells the pair “and before you ask, I won’t tell you where she is. She might have taken this break to be away from the two of you but Jona was right she needed some time away from Barcelona to rest. You’ll see her at camp on Sunday.”
You spent a few days in Madrid and it was just what you needed. It was peaceful and your friends had no idea about what happened in Barcelona. When V found out you were in the capital she said you were with her, no arguments. You spent the day training at a nearby pitch and the nights with V, Lola and Carmen. You may have ran away from your problems but you needed this time to be Y/N the person not the football player, sister of Mapi Leon and the person who had been sleeping with her team mate.
With every day that passes you know that you are one day closer to having to face your Barcelona team mates and truth is you wasn’t ready. When you arrived at Los Rojas you stay close to the Lola but you knew that you couldn’t avoid your friends for long.
It was only Alexia that knew where you had been so when she arrives at the facility she goes straight to Lola.
“Where’s Y/N?” Alexia asks the goalkeeper.
“Hi Alexia. I’m ok, thanks for asking” Lola moves on from her captain as she greets the rest of the Barcelona girls.
“You look like shit” she says when she sees Leila “almost as bad as Y/N”
“Y/N?” Leila asks but then it makes sense, you had gone to Madrid.
“She told me not to say anything” Lola continues “but between us me, V and Carmen have a bet on what happened. My bet is that one of the women she slept with is giving her grief so she ran away. It was bound to happen at some point, right?”
“Watch it Lola. That’s my sisters you’re talking about” Mapi comes to your defence.
“Oh please Maria, don’t start being nice now. We all know how you see me”
All heads turn in the direction of your voice. Lola had been telling the truth, you didn’t look good at all. The dark circles in your eyes was barely visible but they were there. You hug Alexia, Jenni, Irene and the rest of your team mates but purposely miss out Leila and Mapi.
Leila couldn’t help but stare. You had your shorts rolled up in typical Leon fashion and the training vest you were wearing hugged your body perfectly. When she met your eyes, she recognised the look but when you noticed it you changed your expression. It may have only lasted a second but it gave Leila hope that you forgiving her was still possible.
“Can we talk?” Leila asks you.
“Maybe later? I’m about to work—“
“C’mon Y/N you can’t keep me waiting. You know I’m not very patient” Marta Cardona shouts from across the lobby.
There way something in the way she said it that caused your sister to shake her head in disappointment. It was no secret you and Marta have history that includes sleeping together multiple times.
“Are they sleeping together again?” Alexia asks. She didn’t want to believe that you would fall back into old ways but it didn’t look good.
“I told you” Mapi mumbles "She never cared for Leila, it was just a game"
“I don’t know. V thinks that she is”
“V?” Alexia asks.
“Yeah that’s her bet. Carmen things that Y/N got her heartbroken but that’s ridiculous. We all know Y/N doesn’t let herself get close enough to anyone for that to happen”
Alexia, Leila and Mapi all share a look. They never though of that possibility.
“Like I said, that’s ridiculous and even if it is true Y/N requested to room with Marta so give them a couple of nights and Y/N will soon forget about this woman who may or may not exist”
Leila scoffs and walks away. Had you really moved on from whatever the two of you shared and were you really sleeping with Marta so soon after you were sleeping with her. She had so many questions but right now she didn’t want to see you, a mixture of anger towards your behaviour and fear of what would be said.
It comes as no surprise to the defender to find you and Atletico Madrid forward sat together at the team meal. She watches in envy as the two of you interact with such ease, the interaction makes Leila feel sick.
“We don’t know if they are sleeping together” Alexia whispers in the defender’s ear.
“Look at them Ale. We’ve seen Y/N like this before, you can’t defend her this time” in that moment Leila felt defeated and the hope that she felt a few hours prior has died.
Meanwhile across the room you hear Marta talking but it just noise. You mind isn’t focused on her, it is consumed with thoughts about what will happen in the next few days. Yes, Mapi has hurt you but it failed in comparison to Leila betraying you. You were willing to break your rules for her, heck you were willing to throw out the entire book but that didn’t matter now.
“She is staring” Marta nudges you.
Sure enough when you turn around you see Leila looking your way. She says something to Mapi who shakes her head and refuses to look your way. You didn’t know what to do, part of you missed Leila and despite your best efforts to forget about her, it just wasn’t possible. It was frustrating that even when you were mad at her you still wanted to know if she was ok.
Then you remember Leila wanted to talk to you when she arrived at Los Rojas. Maybe now was the right time to find out where things stand between the two of you. Your hands grew sweaty with each step you took towards her and the nervous feeling in your gut wasn’t like anything you have experienced before.
“Do you still want to talk?” The confidence that normally lines your tone is nowhere to be heard.
“I’m surprised you pulled yourself away from your girlfriend, oh wait she isn’t your girlfriend she is just the person you are fucking” Mapi retorts from her seat, still not looking you in the eye.
“Do you think I’m sleeping with her?”
“Of cour—“
“I couldn’t care less about what you think Maria, I was talking to Leila”
Now all eyes were on the defender, waiting for her to respond.
The fact that Leila had to think about it gave you your answer. It hurt that she thought this low of you.
“You look cosy together” Leila says. It didn’t answer your question but it did tell you which way she was swaying.
“She’s a friend, who yes I have slept with but that was a long time ago. Leila please can we talk?” You ask her again. There was so much you wanted to say but you didn’t want a crowd of people watching.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. We should focus on the games we have coming up”
The drop in your demeanour wasn’t something that you can hide. This why you left Barcelona, Leila couldn’t hurt you in Madrid but that didn’t last long.
“I did nothing wrong” It was almost a plea.
The next morning your absence at breakfast is noticed by everyone. There is no seat saved for you at any table so it was clear none of the players you were close with expected you to show up.
“Marta, where’s Y/N?” Jenni shouts across the food hall.
“That depends. Are you on their side or her side?” Marta points to Mapi and Leila.
“There’s no sides” Alexia corrects her.
“Yes there is, how don't you see it? For some reason you guys have barely talked to Y/N since you got here. As for her whereabouts, I have no idea. She swapped with Misa so ask Lola where she is”
Lola shrinks in her seat. She knew exactly where you were and given that last night you told her everything that happen she was a little reluctant to tell her friends.
“Lola. Where’s my sister?” Mapi asks the goalkeeper.
“In the gym” Lola says "She wants to talk to you"
The table watches how Lola refuses to meet any of their eyes. Avoiding eye contact was one of her tells when she lied.
“Lola” Alexia tone is low “Y/N isn’t in the gym is she?”
“No but after the way Mapi treated her do you really think I would tell her where she is. That’s right Y/N told me everything last night. Carmen will be ecstatic when I tell her that she was right”
“Where is she Lola?” Leila asks.
“She’s in the room. She kept having nightmares and according to V she was having them when she stayed with her. Here” Lola hands Leila your room key “I’m not happy with what happened but you need to talk to her”
The room was dark as Leila entered. She expected to find you in the bed closest to the door, it was something you did because you thought it protected your room mate, but she finds you buried under the covers in what she assumed is Lola's bed. Had you slept there last night?
You hear the door open but hope that if you ignored whoever entered that they would leave you alone. At first you thought it worked but you feel the bed sink behind you and next you feel a pair of arms snake around your waist. At first you tense up at the touch but then you recognise the scent and your body relaxes.
"Leila. This isn't a good idea" you aren't sure what is happening but you don't move.
"You need to sleep Y/N. This doesn't have to mean anything"
It did mean something though, to both you and Leila. You hadn't slept together without having sex before hand. It was intimate and not something you have experienced before but the sleepless night left you with little to no energy, definitely not enough to argue. You hated how much you body betrays you as you lay in bed with the woman who you were mad at. It wasn't that you suffered from insomnia but you slept much better when Leila was there.
"What were the nightmares about?" Leila asks.
"You. At first is was replays of what happened in the locker room but recently it's you leaving me standing in my apartment, nothing gets said but I end up alone" you don't know if it's your lack of sleep or the calmness that comes when Leila holds you but you allow yourself to be truthful and vulnerable.
"You're not alone"
"But I don't have you"
Nothing more is said, truth is Leila doesn't know what to say so instead she holds you close and listens as your breath evens out letting her know that you had fallen asleep. She regretted telling Mapi about the two of you as soon as she did it and she hated how quickly things escalated. The defender sets an alarm so that you will both be ready in time for training before falling asleep herself.
When she wakes almost an hour later she finds that the pair of you had shifted in your sleep and she was now cuddled into your side. She looks up to find you wide awake. Your eyes were red and if Leila didn't know any better she would have said you've been crying.
"Are you ok?" Leila asks.
Your face drops and she realises it was a stupid question but for a brief moment she forgot about the events of the last couple of days.
"No Leila, i'm not ok"
She wasn't sure if you telling the truth hurt more than it would if you had lied.
"Is everything ok with you and my sister?" you ask. It was something that been playing in your mind. They looked ok on the outside but you thought Mapi would be a little bit mad at Leila for sleeping with you.
"Yes, we're ok"
"That's good"
A silence grows between you and whilst in the past is was comfortable, it now suffocates you. It was a reminder of just how much had changed.
"I suppose we better get ready for training" you nudge Leila a little bit so that you can get out of bed.
For the first time since arrived at Los Rojas Leila saw the damage she had caused. With you having just woke up you wasn't wearing the facade that everything was ok. She watched as you get ready, you didn't mind though, it wasn't like she hadn't seen it before.
Unbeknownst to Leila, her gaze had turned into a stare by the time you're dressed and in the elevator you feel Leila staring at you again.
"Stop staring Leila" you say without taking your eyes off the descending elevator floor numbers.
"I'm sorry Y/N"
"It's too late for apologies Leila. The damage has been done, all that we can do now is move on"
It sounded so simple as you said it and you hoped you sounded more convincing than you feel.
"Move on, right"
It was like a sucker punch to the gut. Leila had hoped that the two of you could work things out but it sounded like things were over and she had no one to blame but herself.
"Don't blame yourself Leila. We both knew the risks when we started sleeping together" you pat her shoulder before exiting the lift.
It seems like the entire team was waiting for you in the lobby before they went to the training fields. The glares that were sent your way didn't feel good but none burnt quite like your sisters. You looks towards her in in time to see her shaking your head and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what she was thinking.
"Don't eve--"
"Nice to see it didn't take you two long to return to old ways" Mapi beats you to it.
"Mapi" Alexia warns her.
"I don't appreciate you leaving me waiting for you in the gym" the blonde ignores her captain and continues her attack.
"What are you talking about? I don't want to be near you, never mind speak to you in private"
"But Lola said you wanted to see me"
"She lied. I didn't sleep last night so my guess is she told you that so that she could tell Leila to come to my room without you been a bitch about it"
"So you did sleep together" Mapi was been relentless and the team couldn't help but watch.
"You need to move on or you and I will be done. Do you understand?" your voice was low in order to keep your conversation private.
Mapi's stoic expression drops for a second but she soon recovers.
The room was in shock as they watched the interaction between the two of you. Over the years you and Mapi had fought but it never got this bad and they had never seen you this angry.
"You don't turn your back on family" Mapi shouts.
"You did it first"
Some of the coaches saw the argument in the lobby so they choose to keep you and Mapi separated for the training session but in doing so they paired you up with Leila. It was awkward at first but the two of you worked well on the pitch and it was nice to see that not everything has changed.
They're was one part of training where you couldn't avoid your sister and that was during the scrimmage at the end of the session. The aggressive style you both chose to play with meant that things got physical quickly between the two of you. Irene warned you and Alexia did the same to Mapi but it was a waste of time, you were out for blood and was treating the game like it was a world cup final. Even though you were battling on the pitch you did so in a save way, that is until you are clear on goal and you feel studs collide with your ankle. Despite the pain mounting in your foot you are up and in your sister's face within a matter of seconds.
"Really Mapi!" you shove her backwards "Was breaking my heart not enough for you? Do you want to end my career too?"
"I didn't break your heart Y/N. Don't stand there and act like the thing between you and Leila was anything more than sex. You're just angry that I called you out on it" Mapi steps forward only for Alexia hold her arm out making the defender stop in her tracks.
"You don't get it do you? You want to know why I didn't tell you?" you turn to face Leila "Do you want to know why I didn't tell her?"
"Because you were ashamed"
"Because I fell in love with you, not that it matters anymore" it took you a few days and one to many drinks with V to come to this realisation and it scared the life out of you. Of all the people, it was Leila who showed you what love was.
You could feel your emotions getting the better of you so when a stray tear falls down your cheek you are quick to wipe it away before leaving the pitch. This is why you didn't do relationships or feelings, it never ended well and you always ended up hurt.
A member of the coaching staff calls for training to continue whilst another follows you into the gym. By the time the rest of the team enter the gym you are working with the coach but in a separate area.
"Ladies listen up. I want you to pair up and work through the exercises on the board"
"What about Y/N?" Leila asks. In the camps previous the two of you had partnered up so it felt wrong you not being with the team even though she doubts you would want to work with her.
"Y/N is almost done and then she will be taking over Alexia's media this afternoon"
"That's not—“ Alexia is cut off.
"It was her suggestion"
That didn't exactly reassure Alexia. You hated media almost as much as she did so that fact that you'd rather spend your afternoon within journalists instead of the team spoke volumes.
The girls complete their workout and your revelation is not brought up once although a few looks are exchanged between Leila and Mapi. You being in love with Leila changed things and although she knows she had no right, Mapi feels her protective instinct for the first time since she found out.
A couple of hours later Lola is laid on her bed when she hears a knock at the door. She is quick to her feet hoping to find you on the other side of the door but that's not the case.
"Capitana, by all means come in" Lola jokes as Alexia is already through the door and inspecting your room "Y/N isn't here and before you ask I don't know where she is, haven't seen her since the workout"
Lola can tell that Alexia doesn't believe her but she was telling the truth. Within seconds someone else knocks at the door, this time it's Jenni, Irene and Aitana. The look of disappointment on their faces let's Lola know know that they too came to see you.
Mapi stands on the other side of your room. She can hear voices inside, one she doesn't hear is yours but that doesn't stop her from knocking.
"Well, well, well if it isn't my least favourite Leon" Lola says as she answers the door for the third time.
"I know I messed up, you don't have to remind me" Mapi says as she enters. She didn't know that you had such strong feelings for Leila, she just thought you were playing games and sister or not, she didn't want her best friend to get hurt.
"She isn't here" Jenni tells your sister.
"I know" this gets the attention of those around her.
"You know where she is?" Alexia asks.
"No but she isn't going to come back here" Mapi says as if it is obvious.
"Why not?"
"Because you’re all here"
What Mapi said made sense. Whenever something happened you craved peace and quiet, the type that only comes when you are alone but it didn't stop them from worrying especially when they noticed you left you phone in the room this morning. They had no option other than to wait for you to get back from wherever you had gone.
It was hard to find a place that nobody knew about when you attended national camp but last year you found an empty office that looked over the training field. It was peaceful and gave you time to think.
You honestly thought when you first slept with Leila that it would last a month, two at most and then the two of you would move on with your lives. Now almost a year later you have just confessed that you had fallen in love with her in front of the entire team.
When the door opens you don't move, you keep your back towards the person who has walked in. As far as you were aware only one person knew about this room and it was because you showed her it when you wanted a few moments alone where you wouldn't get interrupted.
"Everyone's looking for you" Leila takes a seat beside you but doesn't invade your personal space.
"Then they'll be looking for you too" you couldn't bring yourself to look at her. You feel stupid for feeling the way you do and you wished you could take back what you said. Not because you didn't mean it but because it stripped you of the walls you spent years building up.
Rightly or wrongly you move closer to Leila and rest your head on her shoulder.
"Who knew that night you seduced me would lead to this?" Leila was careful with the words she chose. It was a serious topic and the last thing she wanted to do was scare you away.
"Now we both knew it was you who seduced me. I was dancing innocently when you joined me on the dance floor, starting grinding on me, grabbed my hands placing one just near the hem of you skirt and the other one on your stomach so I could pull you close" that moment seemed so minor at the time but you remembered it as if it was yesterday.
"I surprised you remember, you were very drunk" Leila chuckles slightly and you know she is playing the moment back in her head.
"You were drunk Leila. I was stone cold sober"
"So you knew what you were doing?" Leila asked you. It always played on her mind, she thought you were drunk and wondered if you would have done the same thing if you were sober, now she finally has her answer.
"By the way you seemed to enjoy yourself that night I am offended that you would even have to ask" It was a cocky reply but you tone didn't match what you were saying and Leila picked up on it straight away.
"Y/N"
"Yes Leila I knew what I doing. I knew you were forbidden fruit but I slept with you anyways. I knew my sister would hate me but I didn't care. That night, and the many nights after, I made a decision one that I stand by because it brought some of the happiest times of my life even if those moments were mostly in the bedroom" you stand up and begin pacing the room, the weight of the situation was like anvil on your chest and you wasn't sure how much more you could take before breaking completely.
"But look where that got us Leila" you were admitting defeat.
"It got us us" Leila stood so she was at your level although due to the height difference she was a little bit smaller.
She cups your face giving you no other option than to look her in the eyes. It had been a few days since you had really looked at her and she was breathtaking. You succumb to her touch and she smirks slightly when she sees the affect she has on you, even now.
"You said you fell in love with me, did you mean it?" her hands drop to her side.
You take a moment to think about it. It felt right when you said it but in your eyes you were incapable of loving someone the way they deserved and in turn you didn't deserve their love but Leila made you question the possibility.
Was you in love with her? You aren't sure. What you are sure of is that you are the happiest when you are with her, that she is the first person you think of in a morning and the last person at night. When she is having a good day, you are too and when she is having a bad day, you will do everything in your power to make it better. You felt whole when your bodies are intertwined but did that mean you were in love with her?
Why did something so well known have to be so confusing?
"Y/N" Leila says bringing you out of your own head and back to the present moment.
"Leila I don't know what love is but when i'm with you it feels like what I imagine love to be"
It was the closest thing Leila was going to get to the 3 magic words and she knew it.
"I'm scared too Y/N" you didn't have to tell Leila, she understood how your mind works "Loving someone is scary and that's ok"
"But everyone—“
Public perception was something you always said you never cared about but now that they have opinions about something and someone you cared about, well it changed the way you thought.
"They will have their opinions and we can't stop them but at this point our team is full of couples so they don't really have a leg to stand on"
Leila had a point but their relationships didn't matter to you.
"But what—“
Your insecurities were beginning to get the better of you and the cracks in your confident persona were beginning to show.
"What if I were to say I have fallen in love with you?"
"Have you?" the concept of someone loving you seems absurd to you.
"I have. I love you Y/N and I know I messed up by telling your sister about us but I--"
Leila is cut off when you crash your lips into hers. You don't know what comes over you in that moment but you need her. She returns the kiss and it soon becomes deeper. You had kissed Leila countless times, this time was different. It's as if you let you heart take the reigns and it wasn't wasting any time in showing Leila just how much she means to you.
"What does this mean?" you ask after regaining your breathe.
"It means we both know what we want and we won't let anyone get in the way of that"

Butterflies ~ Leila Ouahabi
Part 1/?
Leila Ouhabi x reader, past!Georgia Stanaway x reader
Alexis Queen - you
Tumblr media
You never get nervous.
Not when you got called up to your national team for the first time at 14.
Not when you came out to your parents.
Not when you moved countries to get better at football.
So why now were you getting nervous.
Why did her presence affect you so much?
—————————
“Lex, hurry up they’re waiting to introduce the new signings” Alanna says impatiently whilst you tie your laces for the 100th time (as Hayley always says) due to your “superstitions” you have to tie and untie them twice before you could actually go to training or play a match.
You, who is standing up after finishing up with your laces responds with “Relax Lani, it's only 8:30, we don't need to be in there till 9”
“Alexis it is nine” this time it’s your captain, Steph, who speaks only a lot sterner than your national teammate. “ Or if you want me to be precise 9:02. Please both of you get to the meeting room.”
As both you and Alanna walk out the room Steph’s voice can be heard again, only this time it’s not directed at you but more so Lani “KENNEDY I SWEAR TO GOD GET BACK HERE”. At this both of you sprinted to the meeting room.
When you both finally arrived you were both hunched over in the doorway out of breath. As you slowly caught your breath back you looked up and realised that everyone’s eyes were on you both, so with a sheepish smile you walk over to the seats Hayley saved for you both and took the drink she offered when you sat down. “Thanks Razzle dazzle”
“How many times have I told her to stop calling me that?” Hayley mumbles towards Alanna when she finally sits down. “When are you gonna learn that she does it to piss you off” Alanna states in which Hayley responds by rolling her eyes. “You both know I can hear you right?” But your question goes unanswered when Steph and Gareth enter and stand at the front of the room.
“As you all know we have some new signings so I would like you to meet your new number 10 Deyna Castellanos, number 4 Laia Aleixandri, number 8 Mary Fowler, number 22 Sandy Maclver, number 2 Kerstin Casparij, number 25 Yui Hasegawa and number 15 Leila Ouahabi.” One by one as Gareth said their names the girls all walked into the room, and like any good friend when Mary’s name was announced you, Lani and Hayley all cheered which caused an uproar of laughter within the room.
“Now some of you who live alone will now have to have roommates so Laia your roommate is Alexis” At this your head shot up from where you were looking at your phone showing Hayley the texts between you and Georgia that occurred during the euros and give her a smile“Alex is the one with the cherry red hair in the middle who looks like she’s just been caught doing something she shouldn’t” at this Steph turns to laia and says “we chose this because Alex is one of the only people here who can speak Spanish so we thought it would be easier for you to improve your English with someone who speaks both languages. Is that okay?” “Sí, gracias” “Leila you’re with Denya. Mary, you are with Alanna. Sandy, you are with Esme. And kerstin and Yui you both live alone. That’s it for now, all of you have an hour before training starts so all of you get to know each other especially if you now have a new roommate.”
After stephs announcement you all filter away out of the meeting room and into the common room into your respective groups, yours consisting of Hayley, Alanna, Mary, Esme, Chloe and Lauren. After around 5 minutes you notice 3 figures from the corner of your eye approaching you all, the tallest of the group, Leila, starts speaking “Hola, I’m Leila, this is Laia and that’s Deyna” pointing to each girl as she speaks. “Hi, I’m Alanna but everyone calls me Lani, that’s Alexis, Hayley, Esme, Lauren, Mary and Chloe” Alanna responds in her normal cheery voice, which in your opinion it’s too early for someone to be that happy, each of you hugging the girls as she said your names. Once your all done introducing yourselves you all sit down and continue your conversations but this time including the 3 women.

Jealousy (Leila Ouahabi x reader)
Tumblr media
⚠️smut⚠️
You are out with Leila and the blue side of Manchester, celebrating Alann’s birthday. Despite playing for the reds, you get along with all her teammates pretty good, then quickly welcoming you as Leila introduced you to them when she joined City last summer.
She got many offers from clubs all around Europe but she only wanted to finally live in the same city as you after being long-distance for a year.
“And Y/N, when will you put on the prober Manchester tricot?” Lauren jokes. “I definitely think you need glasses.I’ve been playing for the right team since I am 17”. You went from Germany to England at the age of 17, leaving your family and friends behind but not regretting anything. In two years you have managed to achieve so much, being nominated as a Balon d’or winner at just 19.
Leila smiles at your interactions with her team mates and teasing you by putting her hand on your thigh. You don’t see her intention behind her action and simply run your hand over her arm, tracing her tattoos with your fingers.
“I think you would look really cute in blue” Leila joins Lauren and smirks at you. “Leila is right for once”. Vicky winks at you. Between all of Leila’s teammates, you get along with Vicky the best. You often hang out with her in your free time and Vicky often joins you and Leila going out.
Leila knows that you’re just friends and that you would never spent a minute thinking about cheating on her but she still feels how the jealousy rises in her body, every time you interact with Vicky.
She slips her hand further down, stopping just before your pussy. You rise your eyebrow at her and Leila smiles at you innocently. She loves teasing you in any way possible, so you’re well aware of the fact that it’s gonna be a very long evening.
And you’re right. Leila uses every given moment to tease you. Sometimes by “accidentally” touching your growing heat or biting her full lips and showing her dominance in little things, like ordering food for you or in general speaking for you. These tiny things may be invisible to the others but both of you know the affect it has on you.
“What got into you baby?” You ask Leila in a quiet moment, leaning more to her and showing of your deep neckline which is decorated by multiple necklaces which Leila gifted you over the last year. She visibly gulps but Leila is able to collect herself rather quickly. “Just showing you who you belong to and who’s only able to make you feel like this”. Just as she finishes her sentence, she presses her index finger at your click.
it takes you completely by surprise and you have to cover up your moan by a caught. “Wanna head to mine, so that you can show me how you can make me feel?”. You look up at her innocently and start grinding against her finger a little bit. “If you think you can handle it, then sure” She winks and you laugh at her cockiness. “Bet”.
You say your goodbyes to the others and quickly drive to your apartment. Leila teases you the whole ride long, touching herself while telling you, between her beautiful moans, that you need to focus on the road. You barely reach your room when Leila has you pressed against your wall and has your lips captured in a bruising kiss.
You tuck on her hair and push her even closer if it’s possible. “Please Leila” You moan out when she starts biting and licking your neck, leaving your favourite spot out. “I got media day tomorrow, so don’t leave any marks” You try to say between moans.
“You got makeup for that hermoso”. She moves back to your lips and puts her leg between yours. You grind on her leg and try to get any friction, being pretty sure that you’re already tripping.
“Please I need you so so much” You whine and tuck at her top. She breaks the kiss to remove both of your tops and moves to your breasts, leaving dark purple marks everywhere.
By now you’re a moaning mess, holding onto Leila for dear life. “What do you want Baby? Use your words” Leila demands, holding onto your waist.
“I need your fingers or your mouth. I don’t care, just make me come please!” You beg and she lifts you onto the bed, removing your trousers and your pantie. “Aw baby, you’re literally dripping just for me. Not for Vicky, only for me”. Leila smirks and suddenly you connect all the dots. “So you’re jealous of Vic-“ Leila interrupts you by placing her mouth directly on your clit.
You moan so loud, definitely waking Ona, your flatmate, up. “You’re mine, I don’t need to be jealous of anyone”. Leila just says and continues her assault on your clit. She harshly grabs your waist as you try to grind onto her to ease some of the pressure in your pussy.
“Yeah, I’m just yours Leila. Ah fuck, I need more”. You bend your back off the bed, which is Leila’s favourite sign. She adds two fingers, stretching you out so nicely.
“You’re so fucking tight Y/N”. She breaths against your core, pushing you even closer to the edge. Her grip tightens around your waist, definitely leaving bruises there aswell. “Fuck Leila, I need to come so badly”. You nearly scream by now and Leila gives you the go, letting you ride out your orgasm by leaving hickeys over your hips and continues hitting your G-spot.
You grab onto her wrist when it gets too much to handle and Leila quickly stops. “You did so great my love”. She gives you a loving kiss. You deepen it and turn both of you over, so that you’re on top of Leila. “Thank you and let me show you, how much I love you.” Leila just nods, her breath being taken away by your beauty, even after being completely spend.
You leave soft kisses all over her face. “God I love your smile so much”. You whisper against her lips and start kissing along her smile lines. You move to her neck. “And I love your neck. I always want to leave love bites all over it”. You do as you said and leave a few, but subtle hickeys all over her neck.
You take the necklace with your first letter, which you got her for her birthday,(it was meant as a joke but she still wears it every single day) between your teeth and you look up to her. She quietly moans and bites her lip. “I love how my first letter decorated your cleavage so beautifully, showing everyone that you’re mine”. You suck a deep hickey behind the letter.
Then you move to her tits. “And I fucking love your tits. They’re so perfect just like you. I love how they perk up when I just quickly touch them and how sensitive they are.” Leila moans when you blow cold air on them.
You capture on of them between your lips, causing Leila to loudly moan. When you feel like you’ve worked her up enough, you move to her abs, kissing along the visible lines. “Every time I see your stomach, it drives me wild. I want to run my tongue along it and don’t get me started on your v-line”. You moan out and run your tongue along it. “Fuck Y/N, please stop teasing”. Leila moans and you grin.
You decide to be nice and remove her jeans plus her pantie. “God you’re so wet”. You admire her pussy. “Just for you Y/N, so please do something against it.” You do her begging mercy and start eating her out.
She quickly becomes a moaning mess and you enjoy every second of it. She tastes so delicious. If you could, you would spend every minute like this. And that’s what you’re trying to show her.
It works as Leila is quickly coming. You lick all of her juice and continue eating her out until she comes for the second time. “Oh god Y/N, what are you doing to me?” She pants out.
You smirk at her and move to her face again, letting her taste herself on your lips.
“I can ask you the same question, I love you so freaking much.” She grins at you and you tiredly cuddle into Leila. “I love you too mi querida”. You smile at the spanish nickname but the two of you quickly fall asleep.

Winter Wonderland
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello everyone!
Wow, I didn't expect so much hype for a blurb with Leila, but thanks for all of you messages!
This is my last Christmas story, I admit to arrive at the end of my imagination for the subject and I prefer to stop before getting tired.
As always your advice and comments are a pleasure to receive, juste like your DM :)
Enjoy!
TW: None.
Tumblr media
When Leila offered to spend a few days in the snow, in the cold Switzerland, you were at first particularly surprised. You know that the girl usually takes advantage of each holiday to return to her family and enjoy them and you join her whenever you have the opportunity. New Year is celebrated with her friends in the rules of the art and it has never changed since you are together.
Except this year, Leila’s envy seems to be elsewhere. So it's in a chalet in Switzerland that you find yourself celebrating New Year’s Eve. Leila has booked a chic restaurant for the meal and you decided to walk around when it ended, hours after you came in. The typical village is decorated for the Holidays, answering all the kitsch ideas that someone can have about a Swiss mountain village during this period. But you love it and judging by Leila’s smile, so does she.
"Looks like Winter Wonderland"
You smile as you look at her, both hands entwined, swaying between you two. Even if it's cold, it's still bearable since you have wrapped yourself up from head to toe. You miss the feeling of her skin against yours when you hold your hand, but you will survive until you return to the warmth of the house you rented.
"It’s almost midnight"
You realize aloud when you arrive at the main square of the village. A small crowd of people gathered at the center and even if you don't understand what is being said, the joyful and relaxed discussions make you smile. Leila answered you with the positive, her gaze also resting on the large clock of the bell tower that faces you.
You observe this spectacle a few minutes before a countdown begins to run, announcing the lasts seconds of this year. You feel Leila coming closer to you when the fireworks are launched into the sky after the zero.
You smile when you see this, you always had a special thing for fireworks since you were little. Leila had joked once that there would be fireworks at your wedding and even if your stomach had done a flip when she mentioned the idea of marrying you, you held the idea in a corner of your brain.
Your smile gets bigger when you feel Leila kissing just below your ear. You shiver and this time the cold has nothing to do with it.
"Happy New Year, my Love" she whispers against your skin.
You slightly lift off her so you can put your arms around her waist, laying a kiss on her lips to which she hurries to respond.
"Happy New Year to you too" you answer smiling, a few seconds later.
You willingly let her slip a lock of your hair behind your ear, taking the opportunity to watch her with all your love. The street lights give even more depth to her gaze and an amused smile appears on her lips when she catches you looking at them.
"Cheeky" she laughs, before kissing you again.
After this new kiss, you look up to enjoy the show that is offered to you, without letting her go. You don’t care who sees you, anyway you don’t know anyone here. You don’t know how much Leila enjoys the fireworks, her lips laying kisses on your forehead or cheek at regular intervals. But you’d trade that moment for nothing.
"Why didn’t you want to celebrate New Year’s with your friends this year?" You ask Leila curiously, as you go back to the cottage a little after, still hand in hand.
You see her hesitating for a few seconds, frowning and thinking.
"I don’t know how to explain that. It just seemed more… right? Sorry if it doesn’t make sense."
You smile and shrug, without taking your eyes off her.
"I don’t know if it makes sense. But it’s without any hesitation the best New Year I’ve had."
The smile that Leila gives you takes your breath away and you find yourself having trouble swallowing your saliva so as not to jump on her in the middle of the street. Your trouble must have been perceived by your girlfriend, that being said, since she take you against her with the help of your hands entwined. She lets go of your hand only to pass it over your hips and whisper in the hollow of your ear
"Wait till I take you home, my Love"

friendly || leila ouahabi x reader ||
Tumblr media
leila invites you on vacation as a friend, and some of her national team teammates help her rectify that.
you had always felt very comfortable and at ease with leila. she was unlike anyone who you had been friends with before. you couldn't imagine a life without her in it, which was why you had pushed your feelings as far down as they would go. you were painfully attracted to leila, but you refused to act on it. not that leila made it easy for you.
spainards were very affectionate, and leila seemed doubly so. it didn't help that she could make anyone swoon with just a smile. that was how you found yourself at the beach with her and her national team teammates.
you weren't a part of the spanish national team, just one of leila's manchester city teammates. you hadn't been called up to national duty in quite some time, freeing up your schedule to watch leila as she played. you were proud of her, and when she came to you to ask if you'd stay an extra few days to vacation with her, you couldn't refuse.
there was something about the way that she had bitten her lip when she asked you, as if she was nervous that made you say yes. a vacation with leila sounded heavenly, even if it meant being forced into a hotel room with her for an extended period of time. your saving grace had been the idea that most hotel rooms had two beds, so you wouldn't be forced to share.
"what is this?" you asked as you motioned to the single bed in the center of the room. not only was it a single bed, but it was not big enough to allow for any room between the two of you. leila looked at the bed and shrugged, seemingly unphased by it.
"that is called a bed. people sleep on it sometimes. personally, i like to do other things." leila winked at you as she pushed past you. now, you were frozen in your spot for an entirely different reason. it was bad, but you couldn't stop yourself from imagining yourself doing those other things with leila on the bed.
leila didn't seem to notice how you'd tense up a little whenever the two of you were alone together. you thanked your lucky stars that she spent most of the day on the beach with your teammates. occasionally you'd notice a couple of them eyeing you, but you paid no mind to it. leila had asked for you to be here because she wanted to share her celebration with you, one of her best friends.
"you are single, yes?" you hadn't known what to expect from patri as she slid up next to you. she placed her arm around your shoulders in a way that couldn't have possibly been perceived as friendly. you knew that the woman could be a bit of a flirt, leila had warned you about which of her spanish teammates were like that.
"i am," you answered. a part of you felt like answering her may have been a bad idea, especially when her face lit up like it did. "why?"
"some of the girls were not sure. leila would not give us a good answer." patri kept her arm around your shoulder as she spoke to you. she seemed happy to change the subject when you wanted to. she was definitely flirting with you, and laying it on thickly. she'd laugh at anything that could have been perceived as a joke, making a show of touching you as she did so. still, she was careful to keep her touches respectful, which made you think that she was ulterior motives.
"patri, she has a roommate too for this trip," leila said coldly as the two of you went back to the hotel together. she had walked most of the way ahead of you and completely alone. something had to have happened at the beach, but leila refused to open up about it.
"i don't want to stay with patri," you told her. leila scoffed in disbelief, but didn't bring it up again. you frowned as she walked ahead of you into the room. she went straight to the bathroom to shower and change, leaving you to sit on a towel as you waited your turn.
"you might have to wait a bit for more hot water," leila warned. you frowned as you sat back down on your towel. it felt weird to sit with leila in your bathing suit while she was fully clothed. you were almost immediately reminded of the fact that a bathing suit was just underwear that you could get wet.
"can you please turn the ac off?" you asked. leila, who had been completely entranced with her phone, glanced up at you to see you shivering. she let out a small sigh and moved to turn the temperature up so it would shut off.
"sorry," leila apologized. it felt like the first genuine words that she had spoken to you since the beach. she looked back down at her phone almost immediately, only this time with a blush on her cheeks. you excused yourself to shower, and despite your waiting, it was still a quick one because of the hot water.
you walked out of the bathroom in a pair of sweatpants and a sports bra. leila glanced up from her phone and let out a little groan at the sight of you. she instantly recognized the pants as hers, an old pair that she had gotten from a spanish camp. your thighs were practically straining against the fabric, stretching them out just a little. you still had them rolled up at the top because they were too long, but they fit snugly on your legs.
"are you mad at me or something?" you asked. leila forced herself to look away from you and back to her phone. "look, if you don't want me to be here, i'll leave."
"don't go!" leila shot up from the bed. she managed to cross the room in just a couple of steps to block you in. "this just isn't as easy as i thought it'd be."
"what isn't?" you were beyond confused. leila had invited you out here claiming that she wanted to spend some quality time with you, and the two of you hadn't managed to really do anything together without the room being full of weird tension.
"this," leila sighed. that cleared up absolutely nothing for you, and as leila took in the furrowed brow and tight lipped frown on your face, she knew that she'd have to explain. "you know that i love you, and you're probably my best friend at manchester, but i can't do that anymore. i can't be 'just friends' anymore."
"you don't want to be my friend anymore?" you asked. your voice shook with hurt, those words being more than enough to push you onto the verge of tears.
"not like that! not like that, i swear. i want to be more than friends. i want to be your girlfriend. i want us to go to bed together at night. i want to touch you in ways that aren't friendly," leila explained. she looked hopeful as she waited for your reaction. slowly, you turned around and moved to sit on the bed. it was a lot to take in, but you were over the moon. if only your face had shown it as you processed everything. "for-,"
"lei, you're an asshole," you huffed out. the relief washed over your face, and leila understood that you weren't really mad at her. she joined you on the bed, pulling you into her arms to hold you tightly. you let her cradle your head in her arms against her chest. one of her hands moved down to rub your back, relishing in the feeling of your skin against hers. "you scared me for a second. i thought you hated me for some reason."
"i could never hate you, no matter how much you let patri touch you," leila told you. you glanced up at her with a little pout on your face, one that leila immediately leaned down to kiss off of you. "promise me that you won't let her do that again."
"i promise." you leaned up just enough to steal another kiss. leila cupped your face this time, pulling you to sit up on her lap. you could have spent the rest of the night with leila like that, but the two of you had plans to eat dinner with the rest of her team.

Dirty Little Secret - part 5 (leila ouahabi x reader)
Summary: A love story about secrets, flirty messages, football rivalries, and useless lesbians who don’t know how to communicate. And it all starts with one badly timed challenge in the Champions League.
Leila Ouahabi x Arsenal!reader
Part 5/?
Read other parts here.
———
You’ve hardly spoken to Leila since the news broke that she’ll be playing for Manchester City next season, and not at all since the tournament began. You’re completely focused on your goal of winning the Euros, as Leila probably is too, and you immerse yourself in the bubble of the Lionesses camp while trying to block out outside noise. That includes talking to Leila.
You watch her games though. In between your own matches and the intense training schedule, there’s plenty of downtime and you manage to catch quite a few of the other games on the large screen in the Lionesses’ television room, including the Spanish team’s group games. You act like you’re watching them out of professional curiosity, knowing the likelihood of having to face Spain in the knockout rounds, but you’re as focused on Leila as an individual as you are on the Spanish team as a whole.
Sure enough, after a successful unbeaten group stage, England have to play against Spain in their quarter final match and it might be the hardest game you’ve ever played so far in your career.
It’s not just the physical aspect - one hundred and twenty minutes on a muggy summer evening against a team that has the majority of the possession - but also the mental side. When Spain go ahead, it’s the first goal that England have conceded all tournament, the first time you’ve found yourselves in a losing position, and it takes resilience like you’ve never seen before to pull yourself back not just level, but into the lead.
You almost forget that you’re playing against Leila’s team. She’s on the bench, which you feel conflicted about, having been looking forward to facing her on the pitch again, but at least it removes that possible distraction.
The final whistle blows and thanks to Georgia’s extra time worldie, England are through to the semi-finals.
You walk around the pitch, grinning and hugging your own teammates in celebration, while shaking the hands of the heartbroken Spanish players. Some of them, you know from the Copa de la Reina afterparty, where you were Leila’s guest, and it’s hard to look them in the eye knowing that you’ve just crushed their dreams of progressing further in this tournament.
You walk past Ona Batlle, who you’ve played against many times in the league, and who is being comforted by Rachel. Then Mapi Leon, who you know is one of Leila’s closest friends, lets you pull her in for a brief one-armed hug, but all the time you’re looking for one person.
You spot Leila from across the pitch, still wearing her purple substitute bib, and she must see you too because you end up slowly meandering towards each other as you do the rounds on the pitch.
Leila isn’t quite crying, not like some of her teammates who left everything out on the pitch in one hundred and twenty minutes of gruelling football, but the look in her eyes is one of heartbreak.
You don’t know what to say.
In the end, words aren’t needed. You’re not sure who initiates it, but you end up in each other’s arms. Leila is slightly taller than you and her arms wrap around your shoulders, one hand cradling the back of your head as you lean into her and wrap your own arms around her back. The warmth of her body against yours is comforting and you almost drown out the sound of the jubilant crowd singing Sweet Caroline because suddenly the only thing that matters is Leila.
“I’m sorry,” you mumble into Leila’s shoulder.
“Don’t say sorry,” Leila replies. “You’ll make me cry.”
You want to apologise for that too, but you obey Leila and stay quiet instead, still full of adrenaline from the game and knowing that seeing Leila cry will probably set you off too.
You wish you could freeze this moment, to exist just the two of you in each other’s arms, as you did for those short days in Barcelona a few weeks ago. Leila’s body fits against your own in a way that you’ve never fully appreciated before, but you feel like this is where you belong. She’s just a little bit taller than you, her hand cradling the back of your head, and though it should probably be you comforting her now that you’ve knocked her team out of the tournament, the embrace is as much of a comfort to you.
Though you’d like to remain in Leila’s arms forever, you eventually break apart, but with promises that you’ll talk properly as soon as all the formalities are done and you can get a moment of privacy.
You have to wait until after the huddles, when some of the girls are still doing media duties and you’re back in your tracksuit after a shower, but you get a message from Leila on your phone.
Leila Can I see you? Is there somewhere we can go?
Knowing that your time is limited before both teams have to leave the stadium, you reply straight away.
You Meet me outside the changing rooms?
You pull a hoodie over your head and slip your socked feet into your sliders, then leave the England changing room. Leila emerges from the Spanish dressing room within seconds, and you silently lead her in the opposite direction from the media zone, until you find a deserted hallway deep within the underbelly of the stadium. There, you end up on the floor, side by side with your backs against the wall, thighs pressed together and your fingers intertwined with Leila’s in her lap.
You’re reminded of the only other time you and Leila snuck away after a game - after the second Champions League game at the Emirates. Back then, your actions were fuelled by lust and secrecy. Today, you just want Leila’s company for as long as you’re allowed to have it, and you don’t care about getting caught.
“Are you mad?” you ask Leila, as you trace your thumb over the small tattoo on the back of her hand. “That we knocked you out?”
“Some of the girls are angry,” Leila says with a shrug. “Like Aitana - I think her head might explode. But I’m not mad. Just sad. We wanted to win. We really wanted to win for Alexia.”
“I’m sorry,” you apologise, leaning into Leila’s side and letting your head fall against Leila’s shoulder.
“It’s not your fault,” she tells you, her fingers still absently toying with yours.
“It kind of is,” you point out.
“No,” Leila insists, shaking her head firmly. “We have such good players but you need something extra to win a tournament. It feels like there’s always something missing with us. I can’t describe what it is, but I know your team has it.”
You think you know what Leila means. You’ve played in many different teams over the years - youth teams, professional clubs, national sides - and with that you’ve experienced the full range of success levels. The teams you’ve been a part of that have won titles have all had that special something that Leila refers to, a connection between teammates, the two-way trust between the coach and the players, the special spark that allows you all to push through, even when it’s tough.
You think that the Lionesses have probably demonstrated that tonight. You’ve played in so many teams that would have crumbled as soon as they went one goal down against one of the best sides in Europe, yet you came from behind to earn your place in the semi final. That’s the mark of a team that has something special.
Spain, for whatever reason, doesn’t have that, despite the obvious talent in their squad. You wonder if Leila is more mad at that than she is at you for knocking them out of the tournament.
“You’re gonna win this whole competition, you know that, right?” Leila tells you.
If there’s one thing that Sarina has brought to this England team it’s belief, but while you know this team is more than capable of winning the Euros, you’re still not sure whether it will actually happen.
“You think so?” you ask Leila.
She nods and says, “I hate it. My heart says anybody but England. But I also want it for you. You deserve it.”
“I know it’s the whole point of sport, that only one team can win, and don’t get me wrong, I love winning. But sometimes I hate it when my dreams have to come at the expense of my friends’ dreams.”
“Is that what we are?” Leila asks, and when you lift your head from her shoulder to look at her, she’s smirking back at you. “Friends?”
She gives your hand a performative squeeze, as if to emphasise the beyond-friendliness of your relationship.
You open your mouth to say something witty in response, then close it again. Because the thing is, you and Leila haven’t actually defined what you are. Football rivals with benefits is probably the most appropriate term, because to be honest, you’re not entirely sure if you know Leila well enough to call yourselves friends yet.
But with Leila looking at you with curiosity in her eyes, eyebrows half raised as if she’s expecting you to confirm the exact nature of your relationship, you don’t know what to say. You could joke, but that would just be deflecting. You could be honest, and tell her that you don’t know what you want but that you like the way that things have been going. Or you could field the adrenaline still coursing through your body from the match into telling Leila that you’d like to maybe explore making things a little more serious when she moves to England soon.
What if she doesn’t want things to be more serious? What if she’s more than happy with just an occasional hookup? More to the point, are you sure that you want anything more than what’s currently going on between you?
The door at the end of the hallway crashes open before you can even begin to vocalise any of the confusion in your mind, and your head jerks up to see that it’s Mapi who is interrupting you, stopping in her tracks when she sees the two of you sitting together on the floor in the middle of the corridor.
“Shit, my bad,” Mapi says in English, before she switches to Spanish and addresses Leila.
You let your fingers slip out from between Leila’s as they converse and use your hand to play with your hair instead, running your fingertips through the damp strands, until eventually Leila turns back to you and says, “Sorry, I have to go. We’re leaving soon.”
Leila pushes herself to her feet, then offers out a hand to help you to yours. You keep your hand in hers as you follow Mapi down the hallway, only letting it drop when you pass into a more public area where there might be some media. The last thing you need is for pictures of the two of you holding hands to appear on social media before you even get the chance to figure out how to label what Leila is to you.
There are a few more people around, and one of those is your captain Leah, whose frowning face relaxes when she sees you.
“Oh, there you are,” Leah says to you. “I’ve been looking for you. Nobody knew where you were. The bus is leaving soon.”
Leah’s eyes flick curiously between you and the two Spanish players, but if she suspects anything, she doesn’t comment on it.
Mapi leaves you, entering the Spanish dressing room, but Leila stays and you know it’s time to say goodbye. At least this time, with Leila’s move to Manchester imminent, you hope there will be chances to see her again sooner than usual once your own tournament is over.
You migrate towards each other and wrap your arms around Leila as she pulls you against her chest, burying your face against her shoulder. She smells divine, and you try to commit it to memory as you inhale.
“Good luck,” Leila murmurs into your hair, her voice soft enough that only you can hear her. “I’ll be cheering for you.”
“For me or for England?” you can’t help but tease her.
“You,” Leila says, speaking at a normal level again as she pulls out of the embrace. “Fuck England.”
There’s an amused glint in her eyes as she says this, but it quickly vanishes when she realises she’s still standing within earshot of the England captain, and you can’t stop yourself from grinning as Leila raises an apologetic hand in Leah’s direction.
“Sorry,” she says.
“No need to apologise,” Leah replies diplomatically. “In your position, I’d probably feel that way about us too.”
You think about going in for a goodbye kiss with Leila, but Leah’s presence causes you to hesitate, and before you can make a decision Leila has already said her final goodbye and followed Mapi into the Spanish changing room.
“You alright?” Leah asks, now that it’s just the two of you.
You and Leah know each other incredibly well, playing alongside each other for over a decade, first in the same England youth age groups, then at club level with Arsenal. And while you can tell Leah is curious about the interaction she saw between you and Leila, and that her question isn’t so much asking about your well-being as it is inviting you to open up to her, you also know that she’s not going to push you to tell her anything that you’re not ready to share.
“All good,” you respond.
Leah drapes an arm around your shoulders and pulls you into her side as you re-enter the now almost empty England changing room.
“You bossed it tonight,” she tells you. “I’m so fucking proud of you.”
“You too, captain.”
She smiles at you - the whole England captain thing still hasn’t fully sunk in yet, for either of you, and while you can’t quite believe that the skinny girl with the white blonde hair and the gangly legs who you first met over ten years ago is now leading her country to a European Championship semi final, you know that this is something Leah has always been destined for.
You don’t want to get ahead of yourself but you’re still on such a high from the game that you dare to wonder if Leah is the person who will finally lead England to a major trophy.
“Two games left,” Leah tells you, and you know that she’s reminding herself as much as you. “Two games left to change our lives.”
———
“You’ve got a new girlfriend, I see,” Georgia grins at you as you sit down for breakfast the morning after the Spain game.
“What?” you ask, nearly choking on your granola.
“That’s what Twitter thinks, anyway.”
“Show me.”
Georgia flips her phone around and shows you a tweet that reads “new woso couple alert?” accompanied by a couple of pictures of you and Leila embracing on the pitch after the game. You can feel your cheeks start to heat up and you hope they don’t visibly redden, especially as you feel Leah’s eyes on you, the only person around the table who might be able to guess how close to the truth this fan ‘rumour’ actually is.
“Oh, because I consoled a player after a game now I’m dating her?”
You scroll through some of the comments. There’s nothing too outrageous there - some about the length of the hug, some speculating how or even if you and Leila actually know each other, mixed in with a couple of theories that it’s purely professional and that Manchester City will soon be announcing your return to the club where you spent your formative years thanks to “agent Leila”. It’s not new either. You’re no stranger to being shipped with other footballers, it sort of comes with the territory of being semi-famous in a fanbase of mostly queer women, but never has a rumour about your dating life been so close to the truth.
Suddenly, you’re wondering if you were wrong to hug Leila in public after the game. At the time you followed your instinct, wanting to comfort somebody who means a lot to you. But if you’d waited until you were alone to do that, you wouldn’t have strangers on the internet speculating about the nature of a relationship that you can’t even define yourself yet. Leila was hurting, but was being there for her in that moment really worth potentially outing this to everybody before it even has a label?
Stewing over a decision that you made in the heat of the moment and didn’t think twice about, you return Georgia’s phone.
“It’s just the fans though,” Georgia says with a shrug. “They come up with all sorts of crazy theories sometimes.”
“Yeah, there’s some fans that think I’m dating Ella,” Alessia interjects with a laugh.
“Wait, are you not?” Leah asks, managing to keep her expression deadpan for a few seconds, before it cracks open into a grin.
“Alessia wishes she was dating me,” Ella says.
“I do actually,” Alessia replies, reaching out for one of Ella’s hands as she adds, “El, I’ve been waiting for the right time to tell you how I really feel…”
“Shut up!” Ella snatches her hand away and rolls her eyes as the rest of the group descends into a fit of laughter.
With the group’s attention now elsewhere, any opportunity you might have had to finally admit to your friends what’s going on between you and Leila has passed.
There’ll be other times. When the tournament is over, maybe then you’ll tell them. But with a semi final coming up and the possibility of a final too, you can’t deal with any distractions, whether those come from outside opinions on social media or your friends teasing you about the developments in your personal life.
You feel Leah’s eyes on you and you suspect she knows the truth, but you’re grateful for her silence.
———
England makes it past Sweden with relative ease and you can hardly believe that you’ve made it this far. The final at Wembley is all that stands between you and your wildest dream, but it also means you have to face up to the dilemma that’s been on your mind since you knocked Spain out in the quarter finals.
Should you invite Leila to watch the final as your guest?
You haven’t actually talked to Leila since the quarter final. You know that she’s probably been busy getting ready to move to England, meanwhile you’ve been caught in the bubble of the Lionesses camp.
But once the excitement of winning the semi final has passed and you’re back to focusing on training for the final, you realise that you want Leila there to support you. Just as you went to see her play in the Champions League and Copa de la Reina finals, you want her in the crowd as you compete for the European Championship trophy.
But you don’t know if she wants to come, especially after it was your team who knocked hers out of the same competition.
Plus, though Twitter moved on from the hypothetical of you and Leila after a matter of hours when something else became more interesting, you’re sure that a sighting of Leila in the crowd at Wembley, in the England friends and family section no less, will be sure to bring those rumours right back to the attention of the fans.
After a day of deliberating, you eventually decide that it’s a risk you’re happy to take, if it means Leila might be in the crowd to watch you play the most important game of your entire career.
You text her on your way to lunch after a conditioning session in the gym two days before the big final.
You Do you want to come to the final? I can get you a ticket…
And then, you add a second message as an afterthought.
You Don’t worry, I won’t make you wear an England shirt 😉
Leila doesn’t reply immediately
Leila Sorry I move to Manchester this week 😔 but good luck!
You’re disappointed, but you knew this was a likely outcome. Besides, it’s probably for the best. If Leila had accepted the offer, not only would you have had to explain everything to your teammates, but you’d probably have ended up introducing Leila to your entire family too, which sounds like way too much for somebody who isn’t even officially your girlfriend.
You No problem! Good luck with the move!
———
Leila was right - this England team does have something special.
It hits you, strangely enough, not when the final whistle blows nor when Leah lifts the trophy and a shower of confetti rains down over you, but when you crash Sarina’s post-final press conference with the rest of the team. It’s so ridiculous, your socked feet slipping against the floor, Mary shimmying her hips as she dances on the tables, two dozen journalists watching on in amused disbelief, but there’s no group of people you’d rather have done the last month and a half with. And the medal around your neck, hanging heavy with the sheer importance of what you’ve just achieved, is a permanent reminder of the best summer of your life.
You return to the dressing room, where an England-branded bucket hat somehow finds its way onto your head, and sit down in your cubby to check your phone. Messages have been flying in since full time - friends, family, even distant acquaintances you haven’t seen in over a decade, all wanting to congratulate you on the win. But there’s only one person you’ve been waiting to hear from, and you feel giddy when you see her name in the list of notifications.
Leila Congrats campeonaaaa! I told you that you were gonna win 😋
She’s accompanied the message with a picture, a selfie in which she’s wearing the England shirt emblazoned with your number that you traded for hers during the Arnold Clark Cup.
You take a selfie to send back, keeping the ridiculous hat on your head and lifting up your medal to catch it between your teeth. You grin as you snap the photo and send it to Leila.
Almost as soon as you send it, your phone starts ringing with an incoming FaceTime. You’ve ignored a few calls since you won, overwhelmed by the number of people trying to congratulate you already, but when you see Leila’s name, you accept immediately.
“Hey,” you say, when Leila’s face appears on the screen of your phone.
“Nice hat,” she greets you, stifling a laugh.
You raise your eyebrows, then say, “Sexy, huh?”
Leila gives you an incredulous look, before she says, “Show me your medal then.”
The dressing room is already noisy, but somebody turns the speaker up and it’s almost impossible to hear Leila, so you make your way out of the central changing area and towards the showers, where it’s slightly quieter, before lifting the medal so that it’s in the frame of your front-facing camera.
“Does it suit me?” you ask, shooting her a teasing smile.
“I like it,” Leila tells you. “Winning is very sexy.”
You open your mouth to flirt back, but you’re interrupted by a shout from a few metres away. When you glance up, Leah has emerged from round the corner, a half empty bottle of champagne clutched in one of her hands.
“Oi!” she cries out. “Come and dance with us.”
“Two minutes,” you say to Leah.
Leah’s eyes flit between your face and the phone in your hand, and realisation washes over her face, perhaps remembering the interactions she saw between you and Leila after you played against each other last week.
“Oh!” she says, eyes wide. “Take your time!”
“I’ll be there in a second,” you promise Leah, before turning back to your phone.
“Go and celebrate,” Leila urges you.
“I wish I was celebrating with you,” you admit.
“Sorry,” Leila says with a grimace.
“No!” you interject. “I’m not blaming you for not being here! How did the move go?”
“It was good,” Leila shrugs. “The apartment is nice but I need to go to IKEA to get some furniture.”
“Maybe I can come and visit when you’ve settled in?” you suggest optimistically.
“Okay, but you lose the hat,” Leila tells you, and it’s more of an order than a suggestion.
A thought pops into your brain, probably fuelled the bottle of beer you just downed on top of a shit ton of adrenaline from the match, and you cheekily ask, “What if I’m wearing just the hat?”
“No,” Leila warns you firmly, though she rolls her eyes playfully.
“Fine,” you concede.
“Go,” Leila tells you. “I don’t want to stop you celebrating.”
“Okay,” you say, trying to draw out the goodbye as long as you can. “But I’ll see you soon, right?”
“See you soon, champion.”

Todo Sucede por una Razón (Leila Ouahabi x Reader)
Soooo I am sorry this took forever, but life has been a bit chaotic and writing has not been at the front of my mind and this has been sitting unfinished for months. I finally got some motivation to finish it, and I hope it has been worth the wait! and without further delay part #3 to my Esposa Series
Knowing you needed to get out of the changeroom as soon as you dropped the truth bomb was your first priority. Almost on auto pilot your brain remembered where you used to hide out at the training facility and when you opened the door to what you remembered as a storage closet, you let out a sigh of relief noticing it was still a storage closet. Dropping down to sit in the corner leaning against the shelf, you letting your head fall back as you think about what you just did.
You feel a bit of a weight lifted off your shoulders, knowing that you finally told the team the truth. Or at least some of the truth, you know you owe them more of an explanation but at the moment you just needed to breathe.
You don’t know how long you end up sitting there, before the door opens and before you have a chance to say anything Alexia squeezes through the opening and closes the door.
“I told the team to start warm ups” she says and sits down on the floor across from you, stretching her legs out so her feet are at your hip.
Watching her settle you ask her “how did you find me?”
She gives you a small smile and says “we used to hide out here together when the older girls would start making us chase balls.”
“you remember that?” you ask her with a small smile at the memory.
She nods and answers “of course Y/N, you were my best friend. I am so sorry I didn’t try harder to  protect you.”
“It wasn’t your fault, I could have confided in you.” you tell her with a shake of your head.
She leans forward and places her hand on your shin as she says “I knew something was off with you, I should have pushed harder to get you to talk to me”
Shaking your head again as you feel the tears gather in the corner of your eyes you tell her “I wouldn’t have told you then, I was so scared of what he would do and I refused to put you in a position where you’d have to choose. Then when everyone found out and turned their back on me I just didn’t know what to do anymore.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t try to talk to you after, and I believed what they told me” Alexia says to you quietly. “I wish I could go back and do it differently and I would have made you talk to me”
“it’s not your fault Ale” you tell her quietly.
She shakes her head and says “I didn’t even try to reach out though, it’s been over 5 years Y/N, I am a terrible person for that.”
Knowing how bad she feels you decide to move on shaking your head you tell her “should we go join the team?”
“yeah probably, I’ll try to be better now to you” She says.
“I would like that Ale” You tell her with a small smile as you move to stand up. She follows your lead and follows you out of the closet. You know as you head out to the training field that things with Alexia are better but they are no where near where you once were with her. You decide that you need to take things slow and see how this plays out.
You both join training and it moves along like nothing happened, the team knows not to bring anything on the training field and you are glad for that. You get through the day with no incidents and you are glad when you are roomed with Ona again and get to fully let your guard down when its just the two of you finally in your room after team dinner.
You flop back on to your bed and before Ona can say anything there is a knock on your door and you meet her eyes knowing exactly who it is. Ona goes to open the door as she says “I am going to take a shower and let you two talk okay?”
As you nod she moves to open the door and you hear her greet Leila and then disappear into the bathroom closing the door behind her. Leila rounds the corner with a “hola hermosa” as she climbs onto your bed and settles on her side right beside you.
She wraps her arm across your hip and leans her head beside yours propped up by her arm, as you are lying on your back you lean up and press your lips to hers in greeting before falling back, she doesn’t let you get far as she follows and connects your lips again. You kiss her back for a moment before you pull back, she follows and you give her a small smile as you tell her “I can’t believe what happened today love”
She smiles at you and moves her hand up to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear as she asks “how do you feel about it?”
Shrugging your shoulders you tell her “I’m not sure, but I do know that things aren’t going back to how they used to be”
“what do you mean hermosa?” she asks you.
“Alexia found me” you start “we talked briefly but I don't think we’re okay, things are still weird.”
She smiles sadly and leans down and presses a kiss to your forehead and says “it’ll take some time Y/N”
“there’s something else I need to tell you” you tell her nervously.
She pulls back and looks down at you as she asks  “you can tell me anything”
“we need to keep this hidden still” you blurt out, and at the look on her face you quickly continue “I need the team to get to know me, and decide if they like me for me. Not because I am married to you love.”
The look easies on her face as she tells you “You know I will do whatever you need me to do, but for the record I do not think they’d only like you for me”
“I know you would, which is why I need you to trust me on this one. The conversation I had with Alexia was weird and I need to dig deeper into it, before I drop this bomb too.” you tell her.
She smiles and says “I love you, and if this is what you want then I will do anything you need of me.”
You smile at her and say “Te amo” as you reach up and pull her head down to connect your lips again.
She deepens the kiss and adjusts so she has one leg between yours and her arms on either side of your head, as you wrap your arms around her head and tangle your fingers in the hair on the back of her head. You are so lost in the feeling of your wife that you forget about Ona in the bathroom, and when she walks out and lets out a “Ew! Guys come on!”
Leila pulls back and falls back on the bed beside you as you both let out a laugh at the look on Ona’s face and you tell her “sorry Ona”
“I’m not” Leila adds on and you smack her in the stomach with a laugh.
Ona groans but sits on the end of your bed and asks “everything all good?”
Leila groans as you tell Ona “we need to keep us a secret for a bit longer On.”
“what! Why?” she exclaims.
“things are still weird and I want the team to know me for me not because of Leila” you explain again.
She nods and says “I get it, but I do not think it’l be an issue, you are awesome Y/N!”
Leila chimes in at this and says “I agree you are awesome”
You let out a laugh at the two of them and tell them “thanks for having my back guys.” At this Ona smiles and jumps on the bed to settle between you and Leila and you know that no matter what happens you have these goofballs in your life and on your side.
**
Camp goes off without a hitch and this is the first one since you’ve been brought back in that you feel like you may just start to belong with the team. It’s a good feeling and you continue with it through the first week back in Manchester after the break. After a successful win against West ham, where you scored a screamer from 20 yards out to secure the victory, the last thing you expected was for your phone to blow up with instagram messages.
The most surprising was that it was Patri, who had reposted your goal on her instagram tagging you in it with flame emojis. All the notifications were from other teammates on the Spanish national team, they were all commenting about how amazing your goal was.
When you got home that night you checked your notifications and again and realised you had a new text message from an unknown number. Opening it you were floored at what the message said.
Unknown: Hola Y/N, Its Patri here. I got your number from Ona … don’t hate her for giving it to me… I wanted to reach out and apologise for how I have treated you, I should have gotten to know you before judging you. I hope we can start over and work on becoming friends.
Finishing reading it you cant help but have a small smile on your face. Knowing that telling the truth felt like a weight off your shoulders, but having the Spanish girls reaching out makes it even better.
Y/N: Hi Patri, thank you for the apology but its not needed. The past is the past and we can work on being friends.
Patri: That is great to hear Y/N, I am a great friend just so you know…
You cant help but chuckle at this as this seems like something Patri would say.
Y/N: I have no doubt about that!
Patri: The best way to start our friendship is you teaching me how to score goals like that banger you scored today
Y/N: haha I can’t reveal all my secrets too early Patri!
Patri: worth a shot, ha get it!
You chuckle at your phone at that one, and cant help but feel like this is the start of a great friendship. You continue texting with Patri for the rest of the night, and you fall asleep with a smile knowing this is the start of rebuilding your relationships with the Spanish girls.
**
The following weeks are spent much the same way, most of the Spanish girls reach out whether its on instagram or text. It helps to ease your mind as you know another international break is on the horizon. Before you can plan for that you have to worry about the next club game, a big clash vs Chelsea being played at Old Trafford.
Luckily Man city played on the Saturday and your game was on the sunday so you know Leila would be in the stands. Both teams had played mid week cup games so you haven’t seen your wife in person in over a week.
The first think you did after the walk out, standing in line facing the crowd was to scan it where she said she would be to find her. What you didn’t expect was to see her sitting with Laia, Vicky, Deyna, Patri, Ataina and Mapi. You knew Barca played friday but you never expected them to be here.
Both Patri and Atiana had been texting with you off on and for the last few weeks, but you haven’t had a conversation with Mapi since it all went down. You smile and gave them all a wave and then refocused and got back into game mode.
90 minutes of hard playing later and you came out with a 3-2 win with a last minute winner. You were on cloud nine, after celebrating with the team and singing some autographs you finally made your way over to the Spanish girls.
“Y/N holy shit that was an amazing game!” Vicky is the first to chime in.
Followed by Aitana with “You are a beast out there!”
And Patri with a “I am still waiting for my lessons.”
You smile at them all and say “thank you for coming!” before you can say anything else you feel Ona come up and the attention shifts to her. You move to the side and feel a hand on your arm and turn to see Mapi.
She tilts her head and asks “can we talk?”
You nod and move a bit further down with her and you say “thank you for coming all this way”
She smiles and says “It was worth it Y/N, I need to do this in person. I am so sorry for everything you went through Y/N and I wish I handled it so differently”
You smile and put your hand on her forearm as you tell her “Maps its okay, I know you would have done everything to protect me but I refused to get in the way of anyone else’s dreams.”
She looks at you with a confused look and asks “what do you mean?”
“if you had known about it, you would have done the unthinkable to protect me probably also ruining your chances at the team Mapi. I know my dream was over but I wasn’t going to let him ruin anyone else” you tell her with a small smile.
She smiles sadly at you and says “you are the most kind soul Y/N, the fact that you hid this to protect us is crazy. We could have helped you.”
“Mapi, its in the past now. I worked past it and I am not back on the team now, I just want to rebuild what I lost Maps” you tell her.
She smiles and pulls you in for a tight hug and she whispers in your ear “You never lost us Y/N, we all just needed to have you in our lives to see that”
You smile and pull back wiping the tear from under your eye and you say “you are a big sap now Mapi”
She chuckles and punches your arm saying “It’s cause I am old and soft”
You both turn and make your way back to the group with a smile. You meet your wife’s eye with a smile and wink letting her know everything is okay.
**
The next weekend you had a derby game vs City. You didn’t love playing against your wife, but at least playing on the same day meant that you would be able to spend the night together. You walked out beside her with a smile and a wink and you settled in for a tough game.
It was about 60 minutes in when city got a counter off a corner which meant your centerbacks were all up. You chased back and caught sight of a blue jersey beelining it toward the back post, you adjusted course and saw the path of the ball going towards them. You tracked it and jumped for the header knocking the ball and knocking into the city player. You both tumbled and you landed hard on them.
When you heard the pained yelp you immediately realised it was your wife who you landed on top of. You quickly rolled off of her, and got on your knees beside her as she was curled in a ball. Before you could do or say anything you were being pushed back by Hemp with a “get off of her.”
You tried to push back against her, but you felt the gloved hands of Mary pull you back hard away from the commotion. You only had eyes for Leila on the ground in pain as the chaos ensued around you. All you could think about was get up please please get up. You could feel yourself spiralling the longer she stayed down.
It took Ona getting in your line of vision for you to break the sight you had of your wife. “Y/N look at me, she’s okay. You knocked the wind out of her”
“she’s still down Ona, how could I do that to her” you tell her softly.
She puts her hands on your cheeks guiding your sight to her as she says “Y/N you were doing your job, playing defence properly. Its part of the game and she’s okay.”
As she finishes this you hear clapping and immediately look to see your wife on her feet with her hands above her head catching her breath. Her eyes lock on you and winks at you. You hear the ref blow the whistle to try to get the game moving but you move closer to Leila and place your hand on her stomach.
“I’m sorry love” you tell her.
She smiles and says “I would have scored there babe your lucky you got there first”
You chuckle and shake your head, watching as she’s forced out the sidelines. The rest of the game finishes without incident and it finishes 0-0. You couldn’t be upset about the tie when you know that you could have seriously hurt your wife.
You leave the field knowing that she will end up at your place after the game like you planned. You cant help but pace at the front door waiting for her to show, if she shows.
“Y/N, stop pacing she said she was in the training room longer than she thought but she’s on the way.” Ona says from the couch watching TV.
“She was in there longer because of me Ona, she might hate me.” you tell her.
Ona immediately laughs at out loud at that and says “she would never hate you”
Before you can respond there is a knock at the door and you rush to open it and immediately have Leila in your arms with a “I am so so sorry love”
She chuckles and says “Babe its okay, I am fine. You just knocked the wind out of me and bruised me a bit”
“Bruised?” you ask
“bet its not the first time” Ona says at the same time.
You turn and glare at Ona as Leila chuckles and says “hi Ona, good game”
Pulling Leila with you into the apartment you say “don’t be nice to her love”
“why not?”
“she was teasing me before” you whine and you hear them both laugh at your pout. “Both of you are not so nice” and you turn and move into your room jumping on your bed on your back covering your eyes.
You can hear them talking then movement towards your room. Keeping your eyes covered you listen as the door opens and closes softly, a bag drops on the floor then the bed creak as you feel your wife straddle your waist.
You keep your eyes covered waiting as she says “are you going to look at me babe?”
“maybe” you say.
“Oh, what about now?” As you hear her moving around on you “You may want to look now babe”
“Why?”
“I may have lost my shirt, and a bra presses on my ribs” she says with a chuckle.
Immediately you uncover your eyes and are met with the sight of your wife shirtless and your eyes zero in on the bruise on her ribs from you. Moving your hands to the mark you ask “does it hurt love?”
She smiles “not really babe”
You lean up and press your lips to the bruise multiple times asking “how about now?”
“it doesn’t hurt at all now” she says with a low voice.
You smile up at her and press your lips to hers slowly. You pull back after a few moments and say “we cant though, Ona is here”
She pushes you back and leans down saying “I sent her out for pizza, we have half an hour” and she closes the gap between you pressing her lips to your hard. You follow her lead and forget the day losing your self in your wife.
**
The following day the three of you pack up to head down to SPain for another national team camp. This time you are excited and you can’t wait to see the girls again, the only one that hasn’t reached out was Alexia and that made you nervous. As you are sat on the plane between Ona and Leila you smile and say “so I think I want to tell them about us this time.”
They both turn to you and Leila says “yeah?”
Ona says “finally.”
you chuckle and respond “yes, I am not sure how or when, but I think it’s time. But we have to do it on my terms, when I say okay?”
Leila smiles and grabs your hand with an “of course babe”
Ona nods in agreement and you smile putting your head on Leila’s shoulder for the rest of the flight. When you walk into the hotel your stomach drops when you hear that you will be sharing with Alexia this camp. You split up with Ona and Leila, as you open the door to your room with a deep breath.
Alexia is sitting up on the bed closest to the window as she sees you she sits up and says “Y/N, Hi”
“Hi Alexia” you say as you put your bag on the bed closest to the door.
“I remembered you like the bed closest to the bathroom, but if you want to switch we can?” she says a bit nervously.
You smile and say “this ones perfect thank you Ale” you see her relax at that as you say “Ale, its okay. I think we need to talk though”
She nods and sits on the bed closer to yours. You mirror her on your bed and she starts with “I missed you Y/N, You were my best friend and I needed you.”
You move to sit beside her on her bed and wrap your arm around her as you say “I missed you too Ale, and for the record I needed you too”
She smiles and says “Y/N, do you think we can ever go back?”
You nod and say “yes Ale, it’ll just take some time”
She smiles and says “I made coach room us together, cause I needed this”
“I am so glad you did” you tell her.
Before you can say anything else there is a knock on the door and you both realise you need to go for team dinner. You spend the rest of the night sitting with Alexia and Mapi and the three of you start joking around like you used to and you know that everything will be okay.
On the third day of camp Alexia had to stay back at camp to do media when the rest of the team was back at the hotel. Having the room to your self, Leila comes over and you both decide to shower together. You lost track of time and are both just drying off in the bathroom with the door closed when Alexia comes back.
A knock on the door and a yell of “hola Y/N I am back!”
You meet Leilas eyes with a smile and she smiles back whispering “guess we need to tell her?”
“One sec Ale, be right out.” You lean forward and press a hard kiss to Leilas lips whispering “Te amo.”
She smiles back and slaps your ass as you turn to open the door both of you wrapped in a towel. You walk out into your room, not realising you missed the extra voices with Ale too wrapped up in Leila. That you are shocked when you see Mapi, Patri, Aitana and Ona all sitting in your room.
Alexia says “Hola Y/N-“ then pauses as Leila walks out behind you and runs int your back. “Leila?” she says.
Ona bursts out laughing at the confused look on their faces as Leilas moves beside you grabbing your hand with a smile.
“what is going on?” Alexia asks you both.
You smile and say “So I would like to introduce everyone to my wife” and you hold your entangled hands up for them to see.
All of their mouths drop open and you Leila and Ona laugh at their reactions.
“Your reaction at your game makes so much sense now!” Mapi blurts out.
Everyone laughs at that and you feel Leila’s arm snake around your waist pulling you to her as she presses a kiss to your temple. Standing there with your wife and your friends all together again makes you feel healed and you know that you truly believe everything happens for a reason.

Sacrifices in Avoidance of Heartbreak - Leila Ouahabi x Reader
A/n: so i wanted to post a Leila fic on Leila's birthday but I ran out of time so it's a belated post... oops.
///
Leaving Barcelona wasn’t something you wanted to do, but you felt like you had to. Your teammates and friends, including your best friend were under the assumption that your contract was ending and you could not get a renewal organised with Barcelona. So you left after Barcelona won the Champions League, following Vicky to Manchester, but instead of going to City, you went to United. A choice that confused everyone, but Ona was happy to have you, the defender eventually finding out the real reason that you left Barcelona one night when you were missing Spain a little too much.
You’d only spent a few seasons at the Spanish club, but you fell in love with Barcelona, and your best friend at that club. But she would never love you back, and hearing about Leila being with someone else was enough for it to feel like your heart was being ripped out of your chest. So, you left, to avoid that heartbreak.
The problem is, avoidance behaviours do not solve the issues going on. The dwindling contact with your former teammates was concerning, and whilst they could see you were okay from your social media and WSL games, you missed Leila, your Barcelona teammates and Spain. The Mancunian weather was a lot to adjust to, and you drove to preserve your Spanish skills, plus it entertained Ona with conversations in Spanish that confused the rest of the team, minus Ivana.
United ended up fourth in the WSL in your first season, and whilst Ona spent her off-season heading back to Spain, your avoidance kicked in, determined to avoid the heartbreak you were still feeling a year later.
It was ridiculous, and you knew it, but you couldn’t handle seeing Leila and knowing you would never be good enough for her to look at you as more than a friend. Your self-sabotage having most likely wrecked the friendships you had with your Barcelona teammates.
“It is always weird when players leave.” Patri reminisced, reflecting on how many players were leaving Barcelona this summer, Leila included.
“They always have a reason, but they will always mean something to us. Contracts or not.” Alexia tried to comfort her teammates, but the group were slowly losing the happiness that the Spanish sun gave them earlier, sunbathing forgotten as Ona made a noise, her eyes closed but also hidden by sunglasses as she spoke.
“Not everyone leaves because of contracts. Y/n came to United to escape heartbreak.”
“Heartbreak? Who broke their heart?” Mapi frowned, sitting up and exchanging looks with Leila, who had no idea of what Ona was talking about.
“Hmm, Y/n was in love with Leila, I think they still are, but left instead of telling her…” Ona trailed off as she opened her eyes, realising Leila was staring at the ground, playing with her fingers.
“Ona…” Alexia murmured, wondering whether Ona even meant to disclose this information, but it was too late.
“Wait, you guys did not know?”
“Do they know Leila is going to Manchester City?”
Leila did not hear the response however, her mind drifting to the last few times she had seen you before you left Barcelona.
You’d been drifting away for a little while, being less touchy and affectionate, leaving rooms early and talking less when teaming up with Leila during practice.
There had always been something that had bothered the defender though, the way you held onto her longer than you held onto anyone else during your goodbye hugs, how your tears seemed to be caused by a deeper reason than leaving Barcelona, especially after something Leila had heard you say before.
You adored Spain, and would not leave unless you had no other choice, even admitting you’d love to settle somewhere there one day, after football. So to find out that you left the place you were in love with, because you fell in love with her, and she was just finding out now? It had been a year, and Ona admitted you were still in love with her?
“What was Y/n like?” Ingrid enquired to Mapi, having been silent for a majority of what was said, since she had never really met you, with the season Ingrid arrived being after you left during the summer.
“The sweetest person…” Leila murmured, getting out her phone to do who knows what, halfway between pressing your contact and calling you when an instagram notification caught her eye. A photo of you offering the camera a peony wasn’t something she expected, but the caption made her smile nonetheless.
‘roses are cliche, so i bought peonies’
“The sweetest?” Ingrid smiled, a knowing look on her face that left Mapi confused, but Leila was busy commenting an emoji on your instagram post.
“Sweet, unselfish, prefers to assist rather than score.”
“That was with Barcelona. With United, they score.” Ona countered Alexia’s point, leaving the midfielder to raise an eyebrow.
Leila’s focus drifted again as she opened her messages, finding her last message to you had been left on read, until the familiar speech bubble appeared. The Spaniard watched as one message finally came through.
‘Te echo de menos.’
You missed Leila. That was all she needed to know as a plan formed in her head for when she left to move to Manchester for the next two seasons.
///
You didn’t mean to hit send on that message, telling Leila you missed her. No doubt she would want to catch up when she arrived in Manchester now. Was that so bad, you asked yourself.
However, there was a slight issue, your still existent feelings for the Spanish defender, feelings that only a chosen few knew about because you were scared and insecure. Scared you’d be judged for leaving a top club because you fell in love, but insecure because you thought that you were not good enough for Leila.
Choosing to ignore your phone for the time being, you began to arrange the peonies you had bought, locating a vase and a spoonful of sugar to help the peonies last longer.
///
Your avoidance meant that after the euros, you didn’t hang out with your teammates outside of the training facility during pre-season. You wouldn’t admit it, not to Ona, not to anyone, but you were afraid Leila would be there. Seeing her again, after all this time… your feelings weren’t gone, your heart ached for her but she had no reason to love you back.
What you were doing wasn’t healthy, but you also uprooted your life from where you were happy in Spain and moved everything to England, and now Leila is here in Manchester too, reminding you of that pain in your chest every time you think of her.
You sacrificed your happiness to try to heal from heartbreak, or avoid it, but you sacrificed your happiness and broke your own heart leaving Leila and Spain behind.
You thought you had ruined everything as you fiddled with the paper straw in your cup, staring through the cloudy plastic lid to watch the ice cubes swirl around in your drink. An elbow in your side left you grimacing, about to elbow Millie back when she gestured to the scoreboard. You were next up to bowl.
Getting up to select the bowling ball you needed, you went to bowl, grinning and throwing your arms in the air when the ball didn’t go into the gutters and actually hit the pins.
You could hear laughter from your United teammates but you didn’t care, until you realised it wasn’t just your United teammates at the bowling alley. Your face fell, and you could feel how the goosebumps ran over your skin, stomach churning and heart fluttering. Some of Manchester City had joined, at the bowling lane next to where you and your United teammates were located.
Ona approached you, holding her bowling ball to bowl next but she paused, spotting the look on your face, and realising who you were looking at. She was yet to spot you, but Leila was in your close proximity for the first time in months.
“Are you okay?”
“I don’t feel well. Could you bring my stuff to the toilets please? I’m going to go there then head home.” You explained, barely getting a concerned nod from the Spaniard before you were hurrying to the toilets, not realising that your speed walking caught another Spaniard’s attention.
Staring into the mirror in the toilets after exiting the cubicle, you grimaced as you realised you were sweating, your heart rate not calming down even after splashing water on your face and trying to focus on your breathing.
“I have your things.” Ona announced as she walked into the toilets, holding out your bag to you after you dried your hands with the hand dryer.
“Gracias, Ona. I will see you tomorrow, hopefully…” you swallowed nervously, fiddling with your keys in your hand as you headed towards the door, opening it only to freeze.
Leila smiled softly, but her face fell as you all but scurried away and out of the bowling alley in general, disappearing into the car park and out of sight.
“They hate me.”
“They love you, but think you would not love them.” Ona replied, sending you a text asking for you to tell her when you were home safely, before taking Leila back to the bowling lanes, explaining that you had felt unwell and gone home, so someone else would take over your turns to bowl.
///
It kept Leila up at night, the look on your face, the pain in your eyes that you didn’t realise she could see. Pain and tears. She found out from Ona that you got home safely, and it was only through persuasion and reminding Ona that she was the reason Leila knew of your feelings that Ona gave her your address, but warned her that if things went south, she would leave you alone.
Leila knew your schedule from when the two of you were at Barcelona, she knew how you functioned before and after training, and before and after games. After anything, you’d shower, make food then fall asleep watching something either in bed or on your couch unless you’d been invited out, in which you’d shower, eat out somewhere or eat before heading out, and crash in your bed after.
Life got busy for a few days, but once Leila had the chance, and she knew you were home, she decided to take the chance and go talk to you. Maybe it was invasive, going to your home after getting the address from Ona, you’d probably kill the young Spaniard but you and Ona had almost a sibling relationship after all this time. You’d get your own back at Ona somehow.
It took longer than expected to find where you lived, tempted to call someone for help since google maps’ directions weren’t the most helpful, but eventually Leila’s hand hovered over the door before spotting the doorbell. A doorbell that she wasn’t sure worked, until the door opened, revealing you wearing an apron over your pyjamas.
You froze the moment the doorbell rang, putting down the wooden spoon and turning down the hob before hurrying over to the door, forgetting to look out the window to check who it was.
“Leila! What, what are you doing here?” Your voice shook slightly, hand tightening on the door handle as the temptation to slam the door in your crush’s face crept into your mind, but you didn’t do it. Instead you let Leila in, leaving her in the hallway as you hurried back to the kitchen to stop your dinner from sticking to the pan.
“Why are you here, Leila?” Your voice thick with sadness, Leila hesitated as she stood at the counter next to you, observing you stirring what she assumed was what you were making for your dinner.
You didn’t hear what Leila said at first, turning your head as she repeated it, but you just hummed, you missed talking in Spanish. You spoke in Spanish to Ona a lot, but the rest of your teammates usually looked confused after.
“We need to talk about what? It’s been months, I don’t see how we have much to talk about-” the wooden spoon fell from your hand into the pot, your fingers clinging to Leila’s zip up hoodie as she pulled you into a hug. She didn’t hold onto you tightly, expecting you to push her away, but your body betrayed you as you leaned into Leila, your face buried in her shoulder as you moved your arms to hug her back.
Only pulling away when your timer went off, signifying that your dinner was done, you couldn’t look Leila in the eye. Your focus stayed with your dinner and trying to get it served whilst still warm, and not make a mess in the process.
“I know why you left Barcelona.”
You hummed, gently tilting the pot to pour your dinner into the bowl you had out, hoping not to spill it but Leila’s lack of subtlety took you by surprise.
“You left because you are in love with me.”
Leila’s eyes widened at the clattering noise of the pot hitting the rim of the bowl, hurrying forwards to help you before you split your dinner on the counter.
“Who, who told you that?” Your lack of denial left Leila’s eyes softening, deciding to try not to get Ona in even more trouble by saying it was the younger Spaniard that told Leila and the others during the off-season.
Shaking her head, Leila sighed, “you left without telling me, you thought I did not love you back?”
Staring at the steam rising from the bowl of food, you let out a sigh in return of Leila’s sigh.
“Sí.”
Leila looked up from where she had been looking at the floor, realising what you had said, what you had finally admitted after leaving Spain so many months ago without really talking to Leila again.
“Idiota.”
“Excuse me?” Raising an eyebrow, you turned to the Spanish defender.
“Idiota.”
“Why am I an idiot? For sacrificing my love of Spain to protect myself against the heartbreak of falling in love with my best friend and her not feeling the same way.” You deadpanned, about to fold your arms but Leila reached out, her hands on your hips.
“Because she feels the same way, idiota.”
“She, you, you what?” You spluttered but Leila shook her head, pulling you towards her so you were within almost kissing distance.
“Te amo, idiota.”
“Yo también te amo, Leila.” Biting your lip, your gaze rested on Leila’s lips, returning to her eyes as she smirked, leaning forwards so her lips met yours, your hands on her shoulders to steady yourself. Dinner going cold and forgotten on the counter.
/// hopefully some accurate translations ///
