"The Yurok will be the first Tribal nation to co-manage land with the National Park Service under a historic memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday [March 19, 2024] by the tribe, Redwood national and state parks, and the non-profit Save the Redwoods League, according to news reports.

The Yurok tribe has seen a wave of successes in recent years, successfully campaigning for the removal of a series of dams on the Klamath River, where salmon once ran up to their territory, and with the signing of a new memorandum of understanding, the Yurok are set to reclaim more of what was theirs.

Save the Redwoods League bought a property containing these remarkable trees in 2013, and began working with the tribe to restore it, planting 50,000 native plants in the process. The location was within lands the Yurok once owned but were taken during the Gold Rush period.

Centuries passed, and by the time it was purchased it had been used as a lumber operation for 50 years, and the nearby Prairie Creek where the Yurok once harvested salmon had been buried.

Currently located on the fringe of Redwoods National and State Parks which receive over 1 million visitors every year and is a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site, the property has been renamed ‘O Rew, a Yurok word for the area.

“Today we acknowledge and celebrate the opportunity to return Indigenous guardianship to ‘O Rew and reimagine how millions of visitors from around the world experience the redwoods,” said Sam Hodder, president and CEO of Save the Redwoods League.

Having restored Prarie Creek and filled it with chinook and coho salmon, red-legged frogs, northwestern salamanders, waterfowl, and other species, the tribe has said they will build a traditional village site to showcase their culture, including redwood-plank huts, a sweat house, and a museum to contain many of the tribal artifacts they’ve recovered from museum collections.

Believing the giant trees sacred, they only use fallen trees to build their lodges.

“As the original stewards of this land, we look forward to working together with the Redwood national and state parks to manage it,” said Rosie Clayburn, the tribe’s cultural resources director.

It will add an additional mile of trails to the park system, and connect them with popular redwood groves as well as new interactive exhibits.

“This is a first-of-its-kind arrangement, where Tribal land is co-stewarded with a national park as its gateway to millions of visitors. This action will deepen the relationship between Tribes and the National Park Service,” said Redwoods National Park Superintendent Steve Mietz, adding that it would “heal the land while healing the relationships among all the people who inhabit this magnificent forest.”"

BOGGART

Boggarts are one of many Faerotten organisms produced by lifeforms on the primaterial plane being exposed to Abyssal rifts. With significant enough inundation, small avian lifeforms begin to lose their feathers and congregate near the bases of trees or large stones for shelter as the Abyssal Fae energies continue to poison their systems. Faerot reroutes normal life processes to produce grotesque deformities which, in turn, give rise to magnificent and wildly misunderstood anomalous powers.

Boggarts are an extreme nuisance. Along with creatures known as Hobs & Pixies, spawned from former woodland toads or frogs & bats respectively, these small Faerotten lifeforms make their homes in the walls and foundations of frontier homes where they feed off of psychic and emotional energy. When enough congregate together in a tight enough radius, clusters of Boggarts can impact the emotional wellbeing of a household to the point of ruin. Even homes built into the sides of mountains or those with solid stone foundations are not safe, as one of the Boggart’s abilities allows it to soften stone to the point of crumbling like dirt; Boggart warrens can run as far as the warrens of the average rabbit, with less organization & more overlapping passageways. These tunnels often collapse with passing drakes & other large wildlife, and can drastically exacerbate soil erosion.

Many small animals that dwell in woodlands are quickly crushed and twisted by the violent mutagenic powers of the Abyssal rifts which open in the lonely corners of Crodecca, where settlers and mystics alike shun the land. Overland expansion across the contiguous continent of Crodecca has forced citizens to come into contact with such beasts as Gouls, Beholders, Vampyrs, Hobs, Lunanthropes, Wyches, Boggarts, Pixies and the dreaded Skinhounds. A new chapter of pseudoclerics pioneering in anti-Fae inventions have become well known in the Deng region of Daidara & wide reaches of Doshov. These “Wychunters” are called warlocks by some in passing as their worship of a fallen saint of their faith has seemingly granted them keenness of sense for the Fae & their ilk far beyond clerics of the known faiths.

The morning truly couldn’t get any better.

You had awoken in your cottage, the sun kissing your skin through the curtains. A long, drawn out yawn escaped your throat as you stretched the fatigue out of your limbs, and you remembered that because of the full moon last night, today would be the perfect day to go searching for supplies.

So you dug through shelves of potions and crystals for a dress, stepped into your best wandering boots and grabbed a woven basket for ingredients, not forgetting to make sure the protection spell on the cottage was properly set up. Then you strolled through the forest, listening to the frogs croaking “good morning!”, when they heard the familiar sound of your leather boots rustling the fallen leaves. There was no mistaking the forest was magical. Besides the talking frogs of course, the forest glowed. Glowed with all the power of the beings living there, the magic flowing through every flower petal, every root, every dewdrop. The forest wasn’t just scientifically, technically magical. It was also magical in the way humans used the word. Magnificent and wondrous, and you were so glad you got to witness it every day.

After a long walk you finally arrived at the waterfall, the one where you always found the best, most fresh ingredients for your potions and practices. You began to pluck, humming an old melody to yourself as the contents of your basket started to increase.

“Well, well, well. What a lovely surprise.”

You knew that voice. You knew that voice very well.

Unfortunately.

“How much of a surprise is it really, Jeonghan? I'm here after every full moon.”

The elf had been standing there for a while you assumed, because when you turned to face him he was on the other side of the waterfall, in the midst of sharpening his wooden arrows. And he didn’t even need to, you knew that. He was a high elf, born with a silver sword in his sheath. He could simply lounge around with his long blonde hair sitting perfectly, only the tips of his pointy ears peeking through all day. He didn’t have to hunt or fight if he didn’t want to.

And he didn’t want to.

“Yes, well. You don’t own the place”, he replied, before he deemed his arrow sharp enough and nocked it to the bowstring.

“No, I don’t. And neither do you. Though I am aware of how high elves like to think they own everything in this forest.”

Suddenly, a long sharp object flew past you, making a paper thin cut into your cheek and penetrating itself into the tree behind you. You looked back at Jeonghan, furious as you saw him, bow raised and smirking at your reaction.

“Everything, you say?” The elf began walking towards you while you carefully brushed a finger across your cheek, noticing nearly no blood was falling onto it.

“And that includes you, I suppose?”

He was standing close to you now. Very close. So close you could have made out every imperfection in his skin, if he had had any.

Curse elves and their absurd immortality.

“Am I hearing you say you think you own me, Yoon Jeonghan?”

At some point he had kept walking, now pushing your body against the tree behind you, his arrow still sticking out of the bark. You dropped your basket to the ground. A witch like you should know better than to mess with the high elves, but something about Jeonghan hindered you from keeping yourself controlled with the help of your powers.

Jeonghan reached over to the side of your head, pulled the arrow out of the tree and studied it in his hand for a moment.

“Would you like me to?”

The next moment you felt something cold against your neck. The base of the arrowhead met your skin, and you let out a sharp gasp as he twisted it so the sharp side was now pressing into the flesh, but not roughly enough to draw blood.

“Would you like me to prove it to you? I can own you, Y/n L/n. All that is required of you…Is that you allow me to.”

The ground below you felt like quicksand and your head was spinning. You shouldn’t do this, you really shouldn’t, no you should know better. You we’re in control. In control of yourself, your feelings, your responses. But there was nothing you could do to Jeonghan. He was resilient to all your charms and incantations, and even if he wasn’t you wouldn’t dream of what would happen if you tried to magically influence him. You already felt out of control.

Why was it so thrilling?

"We're here!" The carriage came to a halt in front of a dark, quaint forest.

Only the sounds of cicadas and frogs chirping can be heard, with the exception of a massive tree standing in between the pathway.

"But there's no university I see.." you curiously asked Yunjin as you peeked through the curtains at the back.

"Get down and see for yourself!" Karina winked at you again.

"Alright" Karina spoke as all of you stepped down. "Follow me through the hole in the tree."

You watched as whom you assumed as Mr. Lee, walked up to the stage as well. He had a powerful aura in his face, with a distinctive green eye in his left, which glowed like fire.

" That's Lee Felix, the house captain of the outkasts" Yunjin pointed at him.

"And... that's..." " Where's Hwang ?" Yunjin was surprised as she scanned the room.

" Hwang " that title sounded similiar... " I'm here!!" Someone jumped from behind your seats. You ducked again in fear.

" What the hell dude!" You screamed at the commotion. That person looked behind you... It was him.

THE HWANG HYUNJIN in flesh in front of you.

Sudden, giggles and laughter were heard from a distance as he spoke.

Slowly she guided and assigned everyone to her rooms. And lastly it was your turn.

" And yn this is our room, with Yunjin of course!" " I'll be living with the captain ? That's so cool!" you brightly smiled at her.

" Well you were a last minute addition so we decided that you'll be with us. " Yunjin smiled at you as she replied.

You opened the carrier and let Ms. Tuna roam around her new surroundings, who already found comfort in a chair in the corner and dozed off.

Your breath hitched in your throat as you remembered what Sunday was...

It was your birthday and the very day you lost your biological parents.

You exited the chat and excused yourself to go to the washroom. Yunjin and Karina looked at you curiously as you dismissed yourself suddenly.

A knot of dread formed in your stomach as you looked at the face in front of you in the mirror.

" 22 years have passed yet the mention of this day still makes me like this. "

" Why am I so pathetic ? " You silently cried to yourself. " Why can't I enjoy my birthday like normal people..." you sniffled.

" All okay, YN ?" Yunjin knocked at the bathroom door suddenly, startling you.

" Yeah, I'm ok, don't worry. " Quickly you splashed some water on your face to hide the tears and exited the washroom.

" So you're coming right ? " Karina asked you, concerned.

" Y...y..eah of course " you cursed yourself for stuttering as you forced a smile.

" Perfect, what are you wearing ?? '' Yunjin squealed as she twirled you across the room, making the atmosphere lighter with everyone's laughter.

You panicked and started to recheck the contents of your bag again, when someone tapped on your shoulders.

" Is this what you're looking for ? " you turned around to see the most kind looking stranger looking back at you, smiling.

He was holding your phone and a shiny pen.

" Y...yes thank you so much. " you replied as you got up to greet him.

I have many frogs to share.

1. Peron’s Tree Frog: one of the many that live in my garden. They get inside the water reservoirs of the pots I have my strawberry plants in (sometimes they climb my bedroom window and I awaken to a frog shaped print on the glass)

2. Australian green tree frog: found on my front path while weeding the garden. Poor thing was all dry as it hadn’t rained in a bit. It perked up after having a soak and I put it in a moist spot of the garden and placed an old plant saucer I keep filled with either rain water or garden hose water.

3: Magnificent Tree Frog: seen in a really nice enclosure at a smaller wildlife park near where I live. Striking a very nice pose.

I try to minimise handling and have damp hands when dealing with frogs as is appropriate but sometimes if frog encountering is unexpected I don’t always have time to go wet my hands. All contact with the frogs here though was very minimal (as in 30-40 seconds max) just for moving them to more appropriate safe locations in the garden.

I would like to offer this resource for therians, an extensive list of all of Sir David Attenborough’s nature documentaries that are available on soap2day, and a full list of what species* they each (notably, prominently) feature the natural behaviors of, separated by episode, and omitting species that were only shown dead, juvenile or being predated on. This took me a while (I have been working on it since Prehistoric Planet’s release) because I did in fact have to watch every single series in full in order to list all the species and the episodes are around 50 minutes long, but enjoy.

Long post ahead:

Most of these shows have closed captioning, which is why I’ve picked soap2day. Planet Earth is the only one that doesn’t. I did not include Dynasties and Dynasties II because each episode only features one species.

Magnificent Tree Frog

Litoria splendida

Other Names: Splendid Tree Frog, Ranoidea splendida

Family: Pelodryadidae, Genus Litoria (Australasian tree frogs) which has 93 species, and usually several new species identified every year.

Size: 8-13 cm

Distribution: Magnificent tree frogs are native to the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It has a limited range, only occurring on the north-western coast of Australia in the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Habitat: They enter caves and rock crevices during the day. Much like the other large tree frogs in Australia, White's tree frog and the giant tree frog, they inhabit areas near humans, and can be found around buildings and in toilets, showers, and water tanks.

About the Magnificent Tree Frog

(From Wikipedia): The magnificent tree frog is a relatively large tree frog. The undersides of the feet and legs are bright yellow. Most specimens have white or sulphur-coloured dots on their backs, of varying densities. The older magnificent tree frogs can be distinguished from White's tree frogs by the presence of very large parotoid glands, which cover the entire top of their heads and droop over their tympana.

But I mean listen okay this thing is actually perfectly designed. I mean it. A common flaw of three step evolutionary lines is that the middle Evo is just... there. An intermediate step, providing an extra stage and nothing else. Elements of the cute first step, elements of the Tonks McArd final battler, but nothing of its own particularly.

And then along comes Dartrix!!! Rowlet is charming as hell, just the cutest little ball, and then it evolves into Dartrix, WHICH IS A SNOOTY DANDY. It could be a full adult Evo, that's how good and complete a design it is. I once touched mine's hair accidentally in Pokémon Amie and it had a tantrum. Incredible.

And then it evolves into the mysterious tree druid and shoots arrows made of its own quills, I just... what absolutely magnificent design work went into this owl. Epochal. Spectacular. Mine is called Gwydion. It speaks to me as a Welsh person. And a tree person. I love it.

Anyway I could wax lyrical about the aesthetic design choices of Decidueye so I'd better stop there but <3

You two were walking side by side in an empty park admiring the beautiful colourful sunset sky when Sigma stopped in a spot surrounded by beautiful flower bushed and a weeping willow tree in front of a magnificent lake. You looked at Sigma in confusion, he got down on one knee as he pulled out a box, inside was a ring which perfectly reflected you.

Before Sigma could speak you covered your face before breaking into laughter. A horrified and worried look instantly over took Sigma's face as he stared at you slightly in shock. Sigma tries to get up but you stop him by gently placing a hand on his shoulder and kneeling in front of him softly giggling to yourself before calming down and letting Sigma speak.

'Why are you laughing? Is everything okay? Did- did I do something wrong?' His voice was filled with worry and fright while his eyes were overfilled with sadness, regret, worry and a wish to know why you started laughing out of nowhere. 'Dear, it's not you it's just that I was going to ask you the same question.' You pulled out a box with a ring inside it showing it to Sigma.

Upon realising the situation his worried expression turned into one of happiness and joyfulness, his eyes got their hope back and his voice was filled with love. 'So, will you marry me Sigma, dear?' You asked with a smile wider than the world. 'Yes of course I will!' Sigma hugged you tightly smiling to himself.

Am update on my hair that no one asked for, it's not wet anymore and it doesn't look bad as any character from bsd. Like istg they have the shittiest hair styles imaginable and somehow pull it off???? Like to pull off something that horrifying is a talent on its own and you have to be the sexiest person alive to manage that fr.

I have curly hair so it hides my mistake whenever I cut it and now my hair just looks layered if that makes sense, it probably doesn't but still.

First few lines of some of my works

The Hostile Credence: Smoke rose from collapsed chimneys and blackened the morning sky. Soot dusted Ewan’s boots. The low walls that had failed to shield the village were one of the only constructions left standing, and there were as many corpses buried as were visible on Gadvale’s cobbled roads. Name the Frogs:

Even noise-canceling headphones aren’t enough to drown out the patter of rain against the windows.

There is no place in Oswalka where Irving can get away from the frequent rain, just as there is no place he can escape his father’s reputation. Stargazers' Hill:

For the first time in their lives, the people at the Glasser Mortuary did the opposite of their jobs: they pulled a body out of a casket. This one happened to be breathing, which was fortunate for all of them. Humphrey Glasser did not need his hard-earned reputation to be shaken by a police investigation. Rascal: The slipper slaps across the seat of his trousers, pushing him forward as his fingernails leave new scratches under the lip of his wooden desk. The rubber sole stings even through two layers of cotton. Merciless strokes leave oval prints on the flesh of his backside. Geckos, Automata: “I don’t want to live. Not like this. Can you make it stop? Could you kill me?”

Agatha blinked twice at her creator, even though his eyes were closed and he could not see her message. No.

What was it that he held in his hands? A worn photograph, revealing the dull colors of a young man’s curly black hair, his olive skin, and his gray irises. The stranger was smiling. Seasons:

Father says I was born from the fall of the first leaf of autumn. As it drifted downward, he held out his arms, and the leaf became an infant.

It used to fascinate me to hear the story of my birth. Not just mine, but my brothers’ as well.

“All my children are born from a season.”

Serrated Petals:

In a forest of smoky quartz and glass-leaved trees sits a fortress of stone armor protecting coppery veins. Its spires and battlements overlook the deadlands beyond. A lake is tucked behind the crystal mountains surrounding the castle. Each section is part of a larger work of art from the infamous Otto Brynner.

Roland has been obsessed with the poetic descriptions—and the paintings—of Brynner’s handiwork since he was an impressionable lad still clinging to his mother’s skirts. Galleries would host his first introduction to the magnificence of Brynner’s magical sculptures and architecture. Display cases preserved the razor-thin edges of appropriated glass leaves, artists would attempt to capture the well-documented sight on canvas or porcelain plates or even kites, and children could hold a chunk of the land’s smoky quartz in their palms.
