I’m having a get-together with my friends today to celebrate my book being published and I was going to dress up like one of my characters but then didn’t get the costume assembled in time so I’m wearing my Ahab costume because he’s not a pirate but he’s a goth sea captain and that’s close enough I think

I refuse to analyze what this means about me as a person but there are only two things in the world that are guaranteed to make me cry every single time and the first is the song Bones in the Ocean and the other is the Triassic Cuddle fossil. Even if I’m having a good time I’ll instantly start crying if I think about either of those two things for too long. Nothing else has that effect on me. Again I refuse to figure out what this says about me psychologically

But i'm like 95% sure its pernicious river devils singing their dark hymns toward my liver on the new moon nights.

Your post the other day about the slug that had lost it's face has finally converted me to slug appreciation. Was already a big fan of snails (am an environmental archaeologist and archaeological snail shells are wonderful environmental proxies) and had been slowly getting a bigger appreciation of slugs as I've been on a couple of slug/snail courses for work. I've been stopping to watch them on the way to work now, luckily I leave early and live close to work!

My mom talked to one of my old college professors that does a bunch of amphibian surveys and apparently he said “if we had the funding I would hire Alex to roam around the forest and do all our field work”
