I recently relistened to MAG 71, Underground. Aka the episode where a lady escaped the buried by just laying on the floor and going to sleep, and Ive seen it get circulated as one of those jokes like the guy who avoided the spiral by just walking away or our king Joshua Gillespie just simply freezing the key.
But I find it such an interesting concept that by just accepting your fate and refusing to feed into the fear you can just get kicked out, the buried realised she wasnt worth the effort, it was going to get no fear out of her so it pushed her out. If you give them nothing to feed on you get to escape, Its a very rare concept because obviously most situations are fucking SCARY and people are SCARED.
But i dont know man its so interesting how powerful indifference if in the face of the entities.

tma episodes make THE BEST what would you do if questions to ask your friends, especially the vast ones i think. my fave so far has been i explained the sky diving episode to my friend (mag 21 i think) and she goes yeah i'd be happy floating in the air like that, i think i'd just get hungry...

I'm laughing so much this lady has this terrifying supernatural experience where she's on the London underground and the train is this filthy muddy thing that's going no where and stops and starts to collapse and there's a dying old man and she just goes well I mean I can't leave so might as well take a nap and wakes up perfectly fine and she doesn't even stop taking the train icon honestly

Sorry to the Joshua Gillespie stans but
He is not the smartest person in the podcast
He made a bad decision (accepting the coffin despite realising it could be drugs) then made a good decision (not opening it/freezing the key)

There are so many others!!!
Now this isn't to say he's not smart, the good decision has to be made otherwise the statement giver is someone else or they die some time after giving the statement. Joshua is smart. Just not the smartest.

I had been travelling for about three minutes at that point and I checked my watch impatiently. Five minutes passed. Eight minutes passed. I was sure we should have arrived at the next station by that point, but the train just kept moving. We hadn’t gone through the next station; I was sure I would have seen it through the windows, and it certainly seemed to be going as fast as it normally would.

Shout out to Karolina Górka for being like the weirdest character from TMA that I've seen so far. There's nothing inherently paranormal about her but- she recounts her whole statement so matter of fact like it wasn't paranormal as shit and just lays down when she thinks she's gonna die. Just has dirt clinging to her days later and doesn't comment on it? Girl you are bizzare.

Hey it's Karolina! One of my fav statement-givers! Not only does this living legend lay down and go to sleep in the face of inescapable death, but she's also the only statement-giver to be deliberately clear, detailed and to the point. She provides full names for everyone she references, is specific about where she was, how long she spent there and who can verify which parts of her story, and she doesn't waste any of the Archivist's time with small talk, questions or insults. She's basically perfect.
Also we're in January?? That means it was Christmas a few statements ago! Does the Institute close down for the holidays? Did crazy paranoid Jon go to a Christmas party with a bunch of monsters, people who hate him and Martin?
Who is this shovel-welding maniac who filled the train full of dirt? Hezekiah?
Fuck yeah Karolina. 'This train is weird and dirty, I'm leaving.'
It only took her three minutes to decide she wanted to nope the fuck out of the situation!
Love the instinct to not touch anything inside the weird filthy basement train.
This is why I like Karolina so much! This is exactly what I said I would do if I was in the isolation experiment in the Daedalus. Take whatever reasonable measures you can to escape, and if that doesn't work out just relax and enjoy the ride.
Three options, sure, but all of them have issues. Sit and wait only has a good ending if you can be so unafraid that you fall asleep. If you're a claustrophobe, that's how you end up dead. Going to the back of the train is a real gamble. Even if there is a way out, you'll be walking unprotected through a spooky tunnel (possibly dug directly into the dirt) that probably doesn't lead anywhere and will definitely collapse on top of you. Heading to the driver is bad because if there is a driver (which there probably isn't), the chances that they are human enough to help you are so slim. The Buried's whole thing is inescapability and there's really not a good way out of this.
Definitely not the secret fourth option, try and dig your way out through the solid wall of dirt compressing the train on every side. Thank god she didn't try that.
Yeah there's definitely not any kind of constructed tunnel out there, the train is burrowing directly into the dirt like a big metal worm. That's why it's collapsing.
God this train is so terrifying. It's great. The Buried slaps.
