buried avatars will see a hole in the ground and ask “is anybody gonna crawl in there?” and then not wait for an answer

"You’ve never felt the close embrace of peaceful soil. You’ve never truly slept in the bosom of the earth."
The Magnus Archives Fear Entities 11/15- The Buried
This one is another underrated fear, to me. But I loved working on this one! I hope we get to see more Buried avatars in the new podcast, because there certainly weren’t many in the original. I’ve seen some theories suggesting that Alice and Sam might have a connection to the Buried the same way that Jon & Co. have a connection to the Eye, and that’s super intriguing to me!!

i need you opinions on karolina “shouldve been a canon buried avatar” gorka
oooo interesting! i dont know, i find it kind of hilarious that she just decided to go to sleep and made it out alive. like its the beginning of an avatar story for sure, but the hilarity of that being someones only experience is so much for me.

Round One Part Two - Match 18
I probably think about Chelicerae at least once a month, if I'm honest. On the other hand, rip Karolina.

Hey it's Karolina! One of my fav statement-givers! Not only does this living legend lay down and go to sleep in the face of inescapable death, but she's also the only statement-giver to be deliberately clear, detailed and to the point. She provides full names for everyone she references, is specific about where she was, how long she spent there and who can verify which parts of her story, and she doesn't waste any of the Archivist's time with small talk, questions or insults. She's basically perfect.
Also we're in January?? That means it was Christmas a few statements ago! Does the Institute close down for the holidays? Did crazy paranoid Jon go to a Christmas party with a bunch of monsters, people who hate him and Martin?
Tumblr media
Who is this shovel-welding maniac who filled the train full of dirt? Hezekiah?
Tumblr media
Fuck yeah Karolina. 'This train is weird and dirty, I'm leaving.'
Tumblr media
It only took her three minutes to decide she wanted to nope the fuck out of the situation!
Tumblr media
Love the instinct to not touch anything inside the weird filthy basement train.
Tumblr media
This is why I like Karolina so much! This is exactly what I said I would do if I was in the isolation experiment in the Daedalus. Take whatever reasonable measures you can to escape, and if that doesn't work out just relax and enjoy the ride.
Tumblr media
Three options, sure, but all of them have issues. Sit and wait only has a good ending if you can be so unafraid that you fall asleep. If you're a claustrophobe, that's how you end up dead. Going to the back of the train is a real gamble. Even if there is a way out, you'll be walking unprotected through a spooky tunnel (possibly dug directly into the dirt) that probably doesn't lead anywhere and will definitely collapse on top of you. Heading to the driver is bad because if there is a driver (which there probably isn't), the chances that they are human enough to help you are so slim. The Buried's whole thing is inescapability and there's really not a good way out of this.
Definitely not the secret fourth option, try and dig your way out through the solid wall of dirt compressing the train on every side. Thank god she didn't try that.
Tumblr media
Yeah there's definitely not any kind of constructed tunnel out there, the train is burrowing directly into the dirt like a big metal worm. That's why it's collapsing.

God this train is so terrifying. It's great. The Buried slaps.

My favorite statement giver in The Magnus Archives is Karolina Górka because everyone else is like “ this event has irrevocably changed me and I can no longer look at (meats/dogs/computers/whatever) again without feeling that same paralyzing fear I felt that day” however Miss Gorka is like “of course I still take the tube after nearly dying, I live in London, I’ve got shit to do.” That always tickled me because we never get the impression that she was an avatar before the incident on the tube, but rather than scream and cry she literally laid down and fell asleep and the Buried not only spit her out because it couldn’t get any fear out of her the entire time, it also made her an avatar because it respected the city-slicker hustle. Oct 6 - Made to watch
I really liked all of MAG 120 but for some reason I always specifically remember the bit with the train. I always pictured it as a calm little moment of dread :)

This is me just being a asshole and picky about minor details, but like, there's this whole thing about the architect George Gilbert Scott, and we all know about G. G. S. and his workhouses and The Govenor - and the Buried. And anyway, there's this whole deal about how he worked on a whole bunch of other big stuff, like big scale stuff with lots of people use. Like some halls and Westminster and St. Pancras's Railway Station. And how it's weird and kinda unsettling that there hasn't been more reports - like waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Anyway, I was listening toour best girl Karolina from MAG 71, Underground. And I notice and think "doesn't she take the North line, and more often the Victoria Line? And i'm like "o, isn't king's cross on the way there?" and make a note that i should listen for which station she uses - and the first station she uses / gets on on is King's Cross Station, which the full name of is King's Cross - St. Pancras Station because it goes under both train stations. And she's going north, which could take her under quite a bit more of St. Pancras's Station.
(edit: if i'm remembering correctly, if she's taking the victoria line north, she should be on platform 3, does anyone have a sense, or a picture of where exactly platform 3 goes under / is? )
And who built the front of St Pancras's Station?
Ofc, it's one experience out of tens of thousands of users, and it's in central London which is crawling with creepy shit, but interesting still. (imo)
