first sentence patterns 🏳️🌈
Rules: list the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern!
Thanks to @thecouchsofa @tackytigerfic @ghaniblue and @peachydreamxx for the tags! I loved reading yours! Been ages since i did this game - here is the previous one in Oct 2022.
Analysis: there's a mix of long and short sentences here. i can't really see a pattern except for #5 and #6 which are both "X person is doing Y thing when Z happens."
Or maybe a pattern with #3, #9 and #10. (According to... / When it comes to.../The trouble with...)

When it comes to what the Employee Code of Conduct evasively describes as ‘personal relationships’, the Ministry of Magic adopts an antiquated policy not too dissimilar to what the Muggle Americans used to call 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'.

The trouble with Harry having a genius idea about how to fix things with his high-maintenance husband was that it invariably involved Ron having to do something he really didn't want to do.

Drarry doppelgangers WIP???? say more!!! 👀
Hi hii! Thanks for the ask about this WIP.
This one is a post-eighth-year fic where a magical accident on the Hogwarts Express on the way home causes Draco and Harry to fast forward a year into the future, and they are now basically doubles of themselves from the past. Confused? You're right to be 🤣
Should they seek their current selves out? Should the Ministry keep them hidden from the public? Should they take full advantage of the fact that Hermione is an Unspeakable Trainee?
And should they ignore that kiss they shared on the train?
I have approx 800 words written, but a document full of unhinged notes.

20 questions for fic writers!
Thanks for the tag @cassiaratheslytherpuff, it was really interesting to read your answers! And fuck, I remember that WIP about Muggles fighting Wizards and suppressing their magic, so if you ever do reignite that, hit me up!
Here are mine! (under the cut)
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
I have 112 works right now. (64 fics, 40 artworks, 4 poems & 4 podfics)
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
422,153, which averages around 7k per fic... sounds about right, most of mine are short form.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Harry Potter!! Various ships but mostly Drarry
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
(All Drarry - All Explicit 😂)

My Heart was far too glad, 22k, E (The double mpreg birthing class one)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes. I'm SO grateful to people for reading and taking the time to leave me a comment, so I like to thank them for that.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Definitely my Dron fic, Primum Non Nocere (1.8k, M). Sorry, Ron!! No HEA for you in that one 😬
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Wow that's a toughie. Most of my fics have some sort of happy sappy ending. Maybe Threads of Hope (5k, T) for the family feels and for 'Harry was happy on Halloween'. 💖
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not really. A few strange comments from time to time and people not agreeing with my choices for characters or plot, but nothing hateful!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I don't think of myself as a smut writer, only 22 of my 64 fics are rated Explicit. Nor is the smut especially kinky - have dabbled in hand kink and watersports but that's about it.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
Not exactly, but I collabed on an LCDrarry fic/art combo that was based on the trolley scene from Meet Me in St Louis, with Draco as Esther and Harry as John.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Once - into Russian. So people can now read about Гарри Поттер and Драко Малфой enjoying a hand job in the Room of Requirement.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes - quite a few! I've co-written 5 or 6 fics with @timothysboxers, I wrote a fic with 20 other authors once, which was wild, and recently wrote a little ficlet with @lettersbyelise and @sassy-cissa. Tim and I are working on another one right now - wish us luck! 😅 *sweats in writer's block*
I've also collabed on 2 podfics. And have at various times and with various people participated in a fic & art collab where one of us draws and the other person writes. It's so great being creative with others!
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Drarry. 🤷♂️
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
SO MANY. I have a lots of WIPs and some of them I *might* finish some day (or so I tell myself). But I think the George/Angelina one I started in 2018 will probably never get finished. I realise you'll all be sadface emoji about that. 😂
16. What are your writing strengths?
I really don't know. I am GREAT at starting a fic, getting the first scene and a half down. That is my superpower.
I'm ok at dialogue I think?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Following on from above, I seem to have unusually great difficulty writing endings. I struggle with making things plotty, and I find it so hard to delay the smooshing together of the characters. Also descriptions of places and rooms and clothes... not my forte. (Food descriptions I'm ok with though, lol, glutton that I am)
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've never thought much about it. I occasionally include a short phrase uttered by someone in another language. But not whole sections of dialogue.
Should I have opinions about this? Is there discourse here I am unaware of? 😅
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter. First and only!
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
Like Cassiara, my favourites change every time I try to pick one!
I'll go with Good Intent (12k, E) - a Jeddy fic! Ha. I don't know why but I do quite like naughty James and conflicted Teddy and the lingering love for Harry in this one.
Thinking about Drarry... let's give some love too to Be careful what you hiss for (5.6k, E) - Fithy-mouthed parseltongue Harry was a lot of fun to write 🐍👅

Summary: The Niffler's Garden is the most prestigious wizarding nursery school in England and has been for the last century or more. Harry Potter's boys are both enrolled as pupils at the Garden. When he volunteers to assist with the Yule pageant, he has no idea that he'll be working closely with another parent, Draco Malfoy. Although they haven't seen each other much since their own school days, Harry faults Malfoy for not being a hands-on dad to little Scorpius. Will the intense weeks of preparation fan the fires of enmity or something else entirely?

I love how different each piece of writing you share feels. It's unusual and thought-provoking, humourous and dramatic, and you cut through to my heart with each and every one.

I do agree that I don't have One Consistent Vibe (though my friends sometimes say something I write is "peak Em" and I still haven't figured out what that means 😂). It all depends on the prompt or the little idea that sparks some sort of scenario in my mind, and then the scenario dictates what sort of mood the writing will end up like. Really I am just the wand, acting as a conduit for the idea, focusing it and casting it into a doc. And sometimes it comes out serious and angsty, other times it's very silly, other times fluffy or sentimental. And other times no magic comes out at all, not even an incorporeal wisp. Either way I'm so pleased you have enjoyed reading some of the things I've written.

I hope you're having a wonderful day, and I wish I knew who you were so I could come and rain love down upon you. My own sadness about this whole ask is that I don't have time to draw you a little something like I would dearly love to. Alas, we must remain anonymous penpals, but know that I love and cherish your kind words, and that I know not why it's got me talking like I'm living in a period drama. Thanks for sending me a happy! Five things that make me happy:
Completing a thing - I am a paradox of a person, being a compulsive completer-finisher on the one hand (I ITCH when things are left undone, she says, looking at her WIPs hanging over her with misery on their faces), and on the other hand a pathological procastinator (I mean, here I am on tumblr, very clearly NOT doing the things I should be doing). But when I eventually knuckle down, it feels SO satisfying to finish something, and I feel really happy and proud of myself.
Chatting to friends - WHAT is more lovely than talking about everything and anything to those you call friends, whether online or in the big scary real world? They multiply our happiness and divide our sadness, and I am grateful to have them.
Creating and sharing - It's such a gift and an honour to have others that share my weird obsessions and enjoy things I create. And so nice to mould the ideas in my head into words and art that I can release into the wild, and see how they fare by themselves, if I've given them enough love and guidance to stand on their own two feet and make their way in the world (ok sorry I've lost the plot).
Having enough time for stuff I want to do - What a gorgeous luxury is time! Alas, it evades us all. But when I do grasp a little bubble of time for myself, it is bliss (and I invariably waste it by faffing around, but perhaps faffing is the thing I wanna do).
Laughing - This is my very favourite thing to do. If you can make me laugh, I will adore you forever. It's honestly the best stress relief. Gimme all that dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins, grabby grabby.
Whoever you are, anon, thank you for making me stop for a moment, and think about this. It's all too easy to get bogged down in worrying about how I can keep everyone else happy, so this was a good reminder that sometimes I need to focus on me. There are lots of other things that make me happy—my children smiling with gappy teeth, a perfectly brewed cup of tea, cosy slippers, a big bear hug—but, sure, the five above will do!

Nope.
That's not reeeeeally representative of my personality. That's wishful... aspirational. That's who I'd like to be when I grow up.
May I instead direct you to On the First Day of Christmas a Pureblood Gave to Me? Because there you will find me cowering under the insufficient coverage and flimsy boughs of my personali-tree 🎄. And hoping you don't pull back the tinsel and baubles and hate what you see.
You may find me to be a shallow, shallow person with a twelve year old sense of humour... and I shan’t apologise for it, can't make me. But that doesn't mean I'm not earnestly hoping people like this fic. Or that I don't beam from ear to ear when someone leaves it a kudos or comment. So a big thank you to anyone who's enjoyed the fic or had a wee chuckle at any of it, because you've validated my misspent lifetime of making light of everything, and a big thank you too to you anon for asking me this question.
And even though no one asked, yes, I plan on finishing it. It's right at the very top of my to-do list, the twinkly star atop the tree, the lick of blue flame atop the plum-pudding, the expertly scissor-curled ribbon atop the gift, and maybe if I stop thinking about festive metaphors I'll manage to get the next chapter up before Christmas 🌟
