Eöl got destroyed (this is why he tryed to stab him)
Eöl, trying to get Maeglin to misstrust the noldor: It is not important what your Mother says. Trust what you see, not what you are told!
Maeglin: Okay. I have been told you were a genius, but i have only ever seen you behave like a paranoid moron, so...

Ok but consider those “Maeglin Finds and Lives With The Feanorians” fics but Baby! Maeglin was taught all their names by badass “balls of steel” Aredhel, so he thinks their nicknames are their actual names.
So Maeglin, upon meeting the Lord of Himring, is timid and respectful but confidently calls Maedhros One-Handed, Famed Kinslayer, “Lord Neylo”.

I really liked working with some other designs and it was a fun challenge and they all deserve a break from coursing disaster at times; some more intentional than others

Controversial Character Tournament Round 2: Gamzee Makara from Homestuck vs Maeglin Lómion from The Silmarillion/The Fall Of Gondolin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(remember that these characters are fictional and your fellow tumblr users are real. i will block you if you harass others in the notes, please consider sending your unhinged harassment to my inbox instead)
Propaganda under the cut, may contain spoilers:
Gamzee Makara:
LOVE: - "Okay, so Gamzee is such a divisive character that I even hesitated on choosing "love". Sad clown with an absentee father raised in a fascist dictatorship. Was mind controlled into killing his friends and then mind controlled during a toxic relationship (or two). Suffers from addiction so fandom likes to go "Oh, how scary his withdraws are. Clearly being drugged up was the only thing keeping this THIRTEEN YEAR OLD from murdering his friends (who largely ignored him, insulted him, demeaned him and acted like they wanted nothing to do with him). Having one such friend gently touch his face didn't cure him of his issues (or the mind control) so obviously he is an irredeemable monster and an abuser. This is genetic." I know you've gotten tons of Vriska, so basically insert any of Vriska's apologists' points here." - "Gamzee is a complex character who is used as a puppet both by the other villains of Homestuck and by the arthur. Once someone takes a deeper look at him they might find a tragic character who had lots of chances where he could have gotten onto a better path but those chances were not able to be given or taken. On the flip side Gamzee suffers from some poor writing that leaves aspects of the character to based off poor stereotypes, he also lacks chances to show his internal character as thr story goes on and is treated like a tool by the story. He also killed some fan favorite characters and has a version of himself (homestuck is a multi timeline story) that abused a different fan favorite character." - "I know Vriska is the obvious pick for controversial HS blorbo, but consider: He is the world's shittiest boy. No one knows why he does the things he does he might just be a murderclown but he might be mind controlled or something no one knows and people have really strong opinions on him based on what they believe. He makes me very sad because I did think he was a cool character before he snapped." - "He was written so poorly 💔" - "when i was 12 i had a crush on him i was like a gamzee apologist and i was probably right i dont remember homestuck. i used to listen to icp and think wowww this is just like my clwon boyfriend and giggle and blush and kick my legs and i still do that with my fake boyfriend but hes not gamzee and its not icp and im not 12 but he kind of sounds like gamzee but thats because hes a smoker and he wouldnt listen to icp he likes techno. anyway i used to get so sad when people said they didnt like him because of the killings and i brought him up to my old therapist a couple times thats kind of funny looking back but i would do it again (but not with gamzee. with my fake chain smoker boyfriend who likes techno). anyway anyway my mom listens icp because her old friend from highschool who died was a juggalo and whenever i hear her listen to it i think about gamzee so i havent forgot about him yet. hes wasnt my favorite character thouhg my favorite character was the gemini one (i also had a crush on him when i was 12 i tried to lucid dream to see him once) (it didnt work). ok love you bye." - "-Funny clown -Cares about his friends -Absent parental figure :( -Did some murder but it wasn't his fault really he didn't have all of his mental faculties (see next point) -Got brainwashed by a universe-destroying god that is everywhere and nowhere at the same time through the form of a rapping marionette -The author(s) fucking hates him for some reason and retconned his previous characterization to make him a one-dimensional shitty villain and used canon text to make fun of fans who like him and no I'm not exaggerating -If I don't make him my blorbo who will"
Maeglin Lómion:
LOVE: - "LISTEN okay so he DID betray the city of Gondolin to the guy who literally invented evil, and that DID result in it getting destroyed and a whole bunch of people dying or being taken prisoner (which is probably worse in this instance), and also he DID attempt to throw his cousin's seven-year-old son off the city walls to his death during the attack. BUT. I love him. Also, and more substantially, a) he didn't go out of his way to betray the city, he was taken prisoner and threatened into it, b) he had an incredibly painful history with Gondolin involving both his parents' violent deaths happening like ten minutes after he arrived there, and he was legally not allowed to leave, and c) he was SO YOUNG (only 180! that's hardly anything for an elf!) and he is SO ANGSTY and INTERESTINGLY GOTH and SELF-HATING and I LOVE him. So." - "First of all he was LITERALLY CURSED TWICE OVER so there was NO WAY he was coming to a good end okay. Sure he had a crush on his cousin but he canonically didn't say anything and she only knew because she read his mind and he wasn't able to hide it from her. He had a major éowyn moment (iconic) and was trapped in cage after cage all his life and tbh after what he saw in the Nirnaeth I'm NOT surprised he voted to stay instead of go. Or just told the king what he wanted to hear. Anyway the POINT is that breaking under mental torment to morgoth, whose force and victory he'd seen firsthand, is NOT a moral failing, and idril started conspiring against him before he'd actually done anything wrong. The attempted murder was, admittedly, not great though. But he didn't even SUCCEED like c'mon he just got homoerotically yeeted from a cliff about it. In conclusion: maeglin did nothing wrong except all the things he did wrong, and the version in which he's most openly evil is also the one where both the narrative and the other elves are racist to him so like they had it coming"

The Light of the Stars
Request: I would love to see, how would Maeglin, Rog or Amras (whoever you feel like writing for) react to a reader who basicaly is a fallen star (Varda's maia maybe - or an isekai'd girl, who lost her memories, but aquired some strange powers along the way)? would they become friends? Lovers? Something else?
A/N: Listen, in the beginning I really wanted to write something for Amras, but then my head made up a lot of ideas for Maeglin so I went with him instead. I went with the Reader losing her memories, but since she doesn't know who she is anymore it is up to you to decide where she is from, hope that is okay.
I really hope you like this! This was my first request and I was really exited to write it!
Pairing: Maeglin x fem!reader
Warnings: mentions of self-doubt
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
It happened on one of the many evenings when Maeglin sneaked out of the city. The city where he didn't really feel like he belonged.
Nothing and nobody had ever noticed that he was missing and Maeglin quickly realised, sadly, that it was because nobody missed him. A thought that ate itself deep into his heart. If nobody missed him, was he worth anything at all?
These thoughts plagued him again that evening. Everything had been getting worse and worse all day. The sun had shone brighter than usual today and had practically burnt itself into his eyes.
He was used to the protection of the trees that only let a fraction of the light shine through, but Gondolin was practically right under the sun and he had had to narrow his eyes to small slits all day to see anything at all.
Now that he could only see the pleasant light of the stars, his eyes could finally rest a little. In his opinion, that was better than sleeping at night. Not that he had ever been good at that.
He would work at night if the light from the candles in his forge was sufficient, but unfortunately it was not. So he was forced to work during the day, just like all the others, who would probably be happy if they didn't have to see him any longer during the day.
But he usually never got that far out, that close to the woods. Because he felt too many emotions in the woods. The familiar fear of his father, who was long dead but still haunted Maeglin's dreams, but also the longing for the protection of the trees and the smell of the earth, which he missed so much in the city.
But that evening he had seen something strange that had probably escaped everyone else in Gondolin. It had been like a shooting star falling from the sky, but much brighter and bigger, and he had seen how this something had crashed into the forest up ahead.
And since Maeglin was curious by nature, he simply had to look for it.
His curiosity clouded his senses so much that he hardly noticed how time passed until he was standing at the opening of the forest.
He could see a glow through the leaves. A pleasant glow that reminded him of the light of the stars.
Maeglin carefully pushed his way through the thicket towards the place where the glow was coming from.
It wasn't long before he reached a small clearing where a you, young woman in a white dress, laid. Your whole body was glowing and your eyes where close.
Did you fell out of the sky?
Maeglin swallowed. He had never seen anyone like you.
He wasn't quite sure what to do. On the one hand he wanted to get to know you, because something drew him to you, on the other hand he just wanted to go back to Gondolin and forget what had just happened. People thought he was strange enough as it was, he didn't need to be associated with falling stars.
But he quickly pushed this thought to the back of his mind. It certainly wasn't your fault that you had fallen from the sky. And you were probably just as alone as he was.
-
It was a mystery to Maeglin how he had managed to carry you all the way to Gondolin without his black cloak, which he had wrapped around your shining body, slipping.
The whole time he was afraid one of the guards would see you, but surprisingly everything went well. Maeglin could hardly believe his luck.
He carefully laid you down on a warm fur in front of the fireplace in his forge and fetched thick blankets from his bed to put over you.
Your skin had been very cold and he had been quite afraid that you wouldn't make it.
Sighing, he sat down on the floor near you and started working on a project in a little notebook. He would wait until you woke up. He usually couldn't sleep at night anyway.
He didn't have to wait long, because soon you opened your eyes.
You rubbed your forehead in confusion and looked around. At some point, your gaze fell on Maeglin.
He expected you to flinch or say something derogatory, but you just said, "Oh hello." Then you groaned and rubbed your forehead again. "Do you know where I am?"
"I brought you here," Maeglin explained, "I found you in the forest. You are - you fell out of the sky. Like a shooting star." He looked at you curiously. "Do you know why?"
You shook your head and then screwed up your face. "No, I am sorry. I am afraid I cannot remember anything. Not even my own name."
"I am Maeglin, but- but please call me Lómion. I prefer that." he said gently. "And we could call you Elmírya ('El' from 'elen', quenya word for star/'mírya' is a quenya word for beautiful) until you remember your own name, if you like."
He blushed crimson. While you had been asleep, Maeglin had been thinking about what your name might be and had come up with all sorts of examples. When you couldn't remember your name, his favorite just slipped out.
You smiled gently. "That sounds nice, Lómion. So we are friends now, are we?"
Maeglin smiled gently. He'd never really had any real friends before, and even if you'd only known each other for a few minutes, he already felt safe with you.
Maybe it was because you were as 'strange' as he was and he felt connected through that difference. Maybe it was because the light emanating from your body was more pleasant for him than the sunlight.
He didn't know. He only knew that he was glad to have sneaked out of the city that night, because he had the feeling that you could change things in his life.
"Yes, we are friends," he said happily.
Then you did something he hadn't expected. You wrapped your arms around him.
And then he realised that he wasn't just prefering your light over that of the sun, but also your warmth.

Maeglin reforges Gurthang for Túrin in Nargothrond.
An illustration of Chapter 3 from Stars Above, Voice Within commissioned for the incredibly talented @anattmar
Original prompt by @arofili for @tolkienrsb. Fic snippet below the cut.
You must learn to listen with your heart and not just your ears; the voice of a maiden, forgotten but not unknown, flowed into his mind.
And so Túrin listened for the voice within and found Anglachel’s song changed. It was no longer muffled mourning but a clear, rhythmic chant. It called, and Anguirel answered. A melody of togetherness, two voices completing a whole.
The sudden feeling of relief intoxicated him, his spirit lighter than it had been in many long days. Maeglin offered the newly reforged weapon, but Túrin’s hand strayed to the smith who had given the blade life again. He reached for Maeglin’s wrist right above Anglachel’s obsidian hilt and let his fingers slide up Maeglin's arm, feeling the tight muscle from long labor before finally settling upon his jaw.
His touch lingered but did not grasp; if Maeglin did not wish for this, he could easily withdraw, step away from him. But he did not and turned to kiss Túrin’s wrist, his eyes falling shut, his lips traveling along the lines inside his palm. Túrin leaned forward, without fully realizing what he was doing, and pressed his face upon Maeglin’s neck. He took in the scent of him, so familiar and long desired.

Tuor had enough
Maeglin: You would sleep with both males and females? That is called "desperate" and not "bisexual"!
Tuor: No, I´ll explain the difference. Beeing bisexual means I would sleep with both men and women. Desperation would be if I had sex with you.

And even though you're scared, You're stronger than you know
Fandom: The Silmarillion
Maeglin & Turgon
Summary: After drinking to much at a party, Maeglin tells Turgon that he feels like no one loves him.
Warnings: alcohol, vomiting, crying
This is Part 1 of 2, no idea when Part 2 is going to be out.
A/N: Title is from "Something Wild" by Lindsey Stirling.
Turgon already regretted persuading Maeglin to come along to one of the parties organised by the other Lords of Gondolin. But what else could he do? His nephew was causing him serious concern. He was completely isolated from the others and had difficulty making friends.
But he wasn't surprised, after all Maeglin was a stranger in a city where everyone seemed to know everyone else, and after what had happened to Aredhel and what Eöl had said before Turgon threw him into the depths, Maeglin naturally found it even harder to make friends.
And that was why Turgon had persuaded him to go.
That the evening would end with Glorfindel telling a funny story in which Aredhel was mentioned in passing, whereupon Maeglin began to cry, for he was very VERY drunk, and threw up all over himself, wasn't something Turgon could have predicted.
Glorfindel had tried to calm him down, but in the end Turgon had decided to take Maeglin, who could barely walk straight anymore, to his room before he attracted the attention of the others and they had one more reason to find him strange. Turgon was just glad that it had been Glorfindel with whom it had happened, because he knew that Glorfindel would only tell others as soon as he knew whether it was really okay for Maeglin. For as much as Turgon appreciated some of the other lords, he knew they probably wouldn't keep their mouths shut.
One of Maeglin's arms hung over Turgon's shoulder, the other just hung there at his side. Maeglin was still crying and his face was an absolute mess of tears, snot and vomit. Turgon knew this was his fault. He should have paid more attention to what Glorfindel, who had immediately started a conversation with Maeglin, was giving him to drink in the first place. He knew, of course, that Glorfindel had only meant well, but that didn't change the fact that Maeglin would certainly be feeling really bad the next day.
"It is all right," Turgons whispered gently, who had never seen his nephew so upset. Maeglin usually hid his feelings very well. The only time he had ever seen him cry was at Aredhel's funeral.
"I miss Nana." Maeglin whispered and sniffled, sounding like a much younger child and not like an elf who was almost grown up.
Turgon sighed heavily. "Me too, my boy, me too."
They had finally arrived at Maeglin's room and Turgon somehow managed to hold Maeglin, push the door handle down with his foot and push the door open. Too bad Idril hadn't seen that, she would have found it amusing.
Turgon helped Maeglin over to his bed and carefully sat him down on the edge. And even though Maeglin should probably take a bath, Turgon was slightly afraid that he might accidentally drown himself in this state if Turgon wasn't looking closely, so he decided not to risk it.
So he took a wet cloth and gently wiped Maeglin's face with it.
"I- I miss- " Maeglin sniffled, and Turgon was actually impressed by how clear his words still sounded, even though he had drunk so much. "I miss Ada too," Maeglin sobbed, and Turgon's hand stopped in mid-motion. "I know I shouldn't miss him, but- " Maeglin's voice died.
Turgon took a deep breath, which he immediately regretted as the acrid smell of vomit rose to his nose, then he continued to clean Maeglin's face.
It reminded him of how young he still was. Turgon had already seen how much it had affected Idril to grow up almost completely without Elenwë, but he didn't want to imagine how bad it was to be in a strange place without any parents at all.
He had never realised that Maeglin missed Eöl too, otherwise he would surely have tried to talk to him about it somehow. To show Maeglin that he was safe with him and could tell him anything.
"He was your father," Turgon said, hoping that Maeglin could understand him. "Of course you miss him, that is quite normal."
Apparently he could still understand him, because he said, "But he was evil."
Turgon's blood froze a little at these words. For sure, Eöl had killed Aredhel and that had indeed been 'evil', but he couldn't shake the feeling that Maeglin wasn't referring to his mother's death.
"I think I just miss having someone." Maeglin continued to murmur, his eyes now half closed. "I miss- miss the idea- " he hiccupped. "The idea of what I- what I wish my father could have been."
Turgon put the now dirty cloth aside and briefly stroked Maeglin's hair gently. That had always helped whenever Elenwë and Idril were sad.
He stood up and walked over to the wardrobe and took out some of Maeglin's sleeping clothes.
"Itarillë is really lucky that you are her father," he whispered weakly.
Turgon came back to him, put the sleeping clothes on the bed next to Maeglin and started to carefully help him out of his top, which was still full of vomit. "Why? Because that makes her the direct princess of Gondolin?"
Maeglin shook his head, but apparently a little too vigorously than he should have, because he squinted his eyes briefly in pain before saying, "She is lucky because you love her. Nana was the only one who loved me." Tears welled up in his eyes again. "And I- I- ot is my fault that she- that she is no longer here!"
Turgon hung the dirty top over a chair in the corner and set about dressing Maeglin in his sleeping top. When he had finished, he pulled him to his feet and changed his trousers. Then he carefully pulled his shoes off his feet.
It had been important for him to make sure Maeglin was comfortable before he took any further steps.
He carefully put an arm around Maeglin and pulled him slightly towards him. "It is not your fault. Her love protected you, she did it willingly."
Maeglin let his head fall weakly against Turgon's shoulder.
"And I love you too, Lómion." Turgon whispered softly and began stroking his back in a circular motion.
The next time he looked at Maeglin, his eyes were closed. Turgon smiled gently. This evening had clearly been too much for his young nephew.
He carefully laid Maeglin down and placed the heavy duvet over him. He pulled it in tight all over so that Maeglin wouldn't kick it off in his sleep and get cold.
Just as Turgon was about to leave, immediately after giving the top full of vomit to a servant to get it cleaned, Maeglin groaned and whispered barely audibly: "I wish you could love me as if you really were my father."
Turgon's hand remained on the door handle for a few moments as he watched Maeglin weep softly and toss and turn in discomfort. Then he sighed, took the chair and pulled it towards Maeglin's bed.
Maeglin's eyes were tightly closed and a few tears were running down his cheeks. Carefully, Turgon reached out and began stroking Maeglin's hair again. He didn't really expect a reaction, so he was surprised when Maeglin relaxed almost immediately and leaned into Turgon's hand.
Turgon leant forward and kissed him gently on the temple. "Do not worry, I will stay here and watch over you, just like your mother cannot anymore and your father never did."

I wanted to give him all black eyes as I headcannon Eol as a Maia and wanted to show it, but I decided he looked better with his usual purple ones,
- only some generations part Maiar (like Elwing/Elrond and Elros) get halos like the Elvers who have seen the trees, as the others, such as Dior and Luthien can "hide" it with their power

The next Fëanorian to be stunned to find out Finrod had arrived during the night in Amon Ereb was Amras. Amras had come from inspecting the vicinity of their lands with some of the patrols, checking to see if the ground had not softened too much and where, and see if any families both of Eldar and Edain needed aid with any possible damages wrought onto their properties and homesteads because of the downpour. Some families needed aid with new roofing materials, but so far the tallies were doing good – they suffered no casualties and the floods ebbed rather quickly.
Breakfast was already underway when Amras returned – and there in the kitchen, his elder brothers were seated, Finrod among them, helping himself to his second big bowl of Turko’s chicken porridge.
“Ingoldo?” Amras blurted out, just to be sure his eyes didn’t deceive him. “Amras, good morning. I’m camping out here for some days, worry not, just enough to….stabilize myself,” Finrod says, looking up from his porridge and looking mournful.
Which was terribly disconcerting. For as long as Amras and Amrod could remember, their older cousin Findaráto Ingoldo had been the epitome of bright cheer and joyous laughter. Maglor – well, Maglor was the melancholic one, Fingon the straight-laced one – but Finrod – Finrod was the one who broke into song whatever task he might do, and then danced besides, and the entire room would be partying with him even before they knew what exactly hit them. The Finrod sitting in his and Amrod’s kitchen looked terribly sad, and upset, and even his blond curls were looking rather limp and unkempt. Even his radiance dimmed a little – right now, he was the pale sunlight after a terrible storm, or a blizzard.
“Of…of course, Ingoldo,” said Amras. “Has anyone sent a letter to Nelyo already?” He looked around at his brothers as he sat in his customary place across from his twin brother.
“I have written to Himring,” said Curufin brusquely. “On the fastest messenger hawk we can spare. Before the week’s end Nelyo should be here.”
“So,” said Celegorm as he filled Finrod’s bowl for the third time. “Are you going to tell us what happened and who is involved? I can ready my bow and arrow and spears. My hounds haven’t run down screaming, intelligent prey in a while.”
“I can sharpen my knives,” Curufin added.
“I say bonfire,” said Amrod. “Massive bonfire, throw whoever it is in the flames.”
Their words at least managed to accomplish their common goal: coax a laugh from Finrod. The golden Elda looked at all his cousins, smiling gratefully. “There’s no need to murder for me. I just want to have Nelyo to talk to, and he’ll make me see sense as always, and then I’ll be alright. Thank you – for…for letting me stay.”
“Nonsense!” said Turko. “Of course you can go here anytime!” “Are you sure about that refusal of murder?” Curufin narrowed his eyes dubiously. “I’ll make kindling for the bonfire ready, we might need it,” said Amrod. “Of course you’re always welcome in Amon Ereb,” said Amras.
Huan padded over, and with a soft whine, rested his massive head on Finrod’s lap. The golden elf’s smile grew, and he gave Huan an appreciative pet and kissed the hound’s wet, twitching nose.
