While putting together the list of items that I had, I noticed that I owned a lot of things. Being that I am living in college, I did not bring every item that I owned, but I brought most of my things. Although I need the basic things like groceries, toiletries, a phone, etc. I have a lot of items on my list that I “want” and don’t “need.” For example, while I was counting my shirts, I noticed that the number became larger and larger, until I wasn’t able to determine when the list was going to end. You never really realize how many things you own until you sit back and reflect. I believe that social media plays a major role in this because people advertise their things online and that causes other people to want the same item. Without social media, people wouldn’t be able to see what other people own and wouldn’t be forced to buy unnecessary things just to fit in.
Out of my list, I believe my phone is one of my main necessities because I am able to communicate with my family and friends. I also use my phone to take pictures and videos so I have memories to look back at in the future. Lastly, I use my phone to help me run and advertise my business. I created my own social media accounts for my business, @_.madebymel on Instagram & TikTok. I take pictures of my clients and upload them for other people to see and hopefully book with me. Overall, I am able to do a lot of things with just my phone.
