Over the Rainbow
Luke castellan x iris Reader
Synopsis: You and Luke were friends since your day one and developed a crush but to many girls like him too
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You painted on the cuff and pockets of your jeans trying to get your mind off things as you smiled at the rainbow on your pockets. You always remember your first time in half blood camp and you were claimed until a month later by your mom.
Everyday though Luke made you feel like it was unimportant to be claimed by someone you didn’t know. Your smiles were effortless and effective to people especially Luke.
When you were finally claimed it was by looking at a rainbow with Luke at the decks of the lake and when you glowed with the rainbow you were claimed like that. And that’s when you realized you grew feelings for the Hermes boy.
You can do it ___ all you have to do is confess to your best friend
That’s when you stop and realized another girl pacifically a Artemis girl is confessing to him that’s been the third girl this week.
“What do you think luke? Maybe we can watch the sunset together?” She asked him as you were overhearing their conversation but immediately rushed off before he could respond.
“I thought Artemis girls weren’t supposed to date and stay virgins” You mumbled before turning your back from them back to your cabin you go. “I can see it on your face it was rough” One of your older siblings said to you as your lip trembled holding back every part of sadness.
You sibling sigh before hugging you “How about we get some brownies yeah? that seems to always cheer ya up” You sibling said cheerfully leading you to the cafeteria.
This was hard to admit but you were insecure with yourself with how many beautiful girls walked up to Luke and had confidence to ask him out. It made you feel small and unimportant.
That day seemed like the day you avoided Luke castellan like the plague. More than three asked Luke out and it was starting to get to you.
Luke was trying to get something out of you like anything, he tried with food, showing off his strength for you to be impressed or like following you but none of those things work and that was starting to get to him.
Days went by more like weeks until….
He finally snapped on the day of the bonfire when he saw you dancing with another child of hermes. He finally drew a line there pushing his half brother away and dragging you towards some place quiet.
He pushed you against a tree so you couldn’t escape. “I get your mad at me Rainbow but I draw the line with you dancing with other boys” He mumbled out. You blushed at his courage as you continued to listen to him admit to being jealous
“___ I really like you, I love how you always paint all your jean pockets to rainbows, I love how you put your hair into a ponytail when your training, I also love-” That’s where you interrupted him with a kiss. You peck him on the lips before smiling cheekily
“I like you too messenger” You shyly said as a small rainbow appeared on the top of your head making you even more nervous as he chuckled.
He leaned in more another kiss this time more passionate and heated as he gripped your waist and pulled you closer.

Colour theory (fluff)
Luke Castellan x gn!reader fluff
Prompt: Luke comes into your cabin at night for some cuddles... and to discuss eye colours
My first PJO post, im excited and i hope you like it!
Requests are open, dont be shy :)
Masterlist
You drowsily blinked open your eyes, the moon light was shining into the cabin. It was late at night, noone was up yet. You could hear the soft breathing of your cabin mates. You turned around with a sigh and pulled the blanket over your shoulder, closing your eyes again.
There was a quiet knock on the window where your bed was placed under. You opened your eyes again and pushed yourself up from the matress. You huffed but leaned up to peak out of the window.
A soft smile grew on your face as you sat up on your knees to unlock the window and slowly open it to avoid making noises. After all, you didnt want to wake your cabin mates. Or attract any cantankerous harpies.
The window squeaked quietly when you slowly opened it. The window sill made a slight cracking noise when Luke stepped on it.
You offered your hand and he grabbed it tight when he carefully climbed into your cabin. He was just in his camp halfblood tshirt, grey sweatpants and socks, carrying his sneakers in one hand.
He gently stepped on your bed, holding your hand for support and put his shoes on the floor once he was inside. You leaned up to lean against his shoulders after he sat on your bedside.
"Hey." You murmured. You wrapped your arms around him and rested your head on his shoulder. He turned his head and kissed your nose. You scrunched it and Luke continued to pepper your face with kisses for a few moments which made you giggle. "Hey." He whispered back finally.
"Thought I would come around." He whispered and you lifted the blanket up for him to slip under it next to you. Luke fell onto the matress next to you and wrapped his arms around you. "Thats nice." You chuckled quietly as you rubbed your eyes.
You sunk back into your pillow with a heavy sigh and pulled Luke closer to you. He leaned up and rested his head on your chest.
You smiled widely and combed your hand through his hair, hair strands running between your fingers. "How are you?" You asked whispering. Luke only hummed and you thought he was too close to sleeping to give you a proper answer but then he whispered against your skin.
A warm summer breeze blew through the open window, carrying the smell of grass and salty water from the lake into the cabin. Luke sighed relaxed and inhaled the fresh air, his fluffy hair tingeling your chin.
"Tired." He grumbled softly. "How come?" You asked concerned while you brushed one of his curls from his forehead. Luke sighed slightly annoyed and buried himself deeper into your body. "Cabin is loud. We got a lot of newbies." He groaned quietly.
Luke often complained about the Hermes cabin being overcrowded. Which was true, it were too many people to an extend where you couldnt get out at night because the floor was covered in sleeping campers during the night.
Luke always got a lot on his plate with keeping his cabin in track, making sure they all arrive at the meals on time and finding a place for everyone to sleep. It got onto him sometimes, it wasnt a rare thing that he sometimes joined you in bed in the middle of the night. He was always craving your comfort and touch and sometimes it just got too much.
"Im proud of you, ya know?" You whispered while you gently rubbed Luke's shoulder muscles. The blond boy groaned in pain but leaned closer. You laughed quietly, massaging his hard muscles.
"Come on." You nudged his thigh with your leg and he pushed himself up to lay down between your legs to rest his head on your chest. You scooted a little more in the middle of the bed, which was barely enough for two people but it was sufficient. It was a good excuse to initiate some cuddling, when the two of you first started dating.
Your boyfriend exhaled calmly. "I like the kids. But sometimes its just too much." He whispered, you leaned down to see that his eyes were half-closed. He smiled at you lazily as you got back to rubbing his shoulder muscles.
"I know you like your kids. But you are allowed to feel overwhelmed. You got a lot to manage and you are doing a great job. Hell, i dont know how i would manage to make sure that a whole army of kids is kept fed." You chuckled into his hair. Luke leaned up to kiss your clavicel as it was right next to him.
"Thank you." He whispered back. There was a faint blush on Luke's cheeks and you took a moment to admire his beauty. His dreamy blue eyes were slightly glazed over but he smiled at you softly.
"I love your eyes." You whispered and leaned down to kiss his forehead. Luke smiled widely and propped his head up on his hands, looking up at you.
"One of the new kids said the colour is called 'old world blue' because it has a little yellow around the pupil." You hid your laugh behind your hand to not wake your cabin mates.
"I see. Maybe an Iris kid?" You suggested, still snickering lightly. Luke nodded eagerly. "Absolutly. She ran around the camp all day, telling people their eye colours. Did you know that Mr. D's eyes are not actually grape purple? They are indigo."
You smiled at Luke's excitement. "No, i was unaware." You chuckled. Luke layed back down and relaxed against your touch. His weight felt good on our body, it kept you grounded and helped you relax your own body. "You have to introduce me to her, i would love to find out what my eye colour is."
"I will. But no matter what colour it is, you are always beautiful." Luke whispered sheepishly. You laughed at how adorable he was behaving. "Thank you, my love." You snickered.
"Old world blue... that's my favorite colour ever now." You whispered into his hair. It was quiet for a few seconds before Luke mumbled back.
"I wonder what my new favorite colour will be."

Luke Castellan X Child of Iris! G/N Reader
A/N This is my first Drabble for Luke lmk if you have any cool ideas or thoughts to include in my next one :) also let’s pretend that the minor Gods had cabins back in the early PJO timeline (before Percy).
This was also not proofread...
Word Count: no clue (it’s short-ish)
DO NOT REPOST ON ANY OTHER PLATFORM (this is my only account)
Tumblr media
You had been in camp for a total of 3 weeks already, and you were claimed the second you stepped foot onto camp grounds. A glorious rainbow shone over you head and you felt this unmeasurable glow of happiness within you. You had journeyed so far from your home, leaving behind your father and younger siblings to go to camp, to protect them from harm. And although you had been so anxious and worried you couldn’t help but feel excited for finally finding a place that could answer all of the questions and suspicions you’d had since you were a child. Your face practically glowed as you were claimed by your godly parent, Iris. You were met with the applause of nearby campers who had witnessed the bright glow of colors floating overhead.
Camp so far had been a blur of excitement and curiosity, you were soon caught up to speed by fellow children of Iris, your half-siblings. They introduced you to the many camp activities and rituals. While it was a lot to adjust to, you soon fit right in and made as many friends as possible.
Your cabin was the epitome of sunshine and rainbows… in the best way I promise. There were sun catchers hung up all around the interior nearby windows, light woods and pastel colored materials were used all throughout your cabin and bunks. And the walls of your cabin were littered with paintings and canvases hung up to display the artwork and passions of you and your siblings. The few spaces of bare wall left, and even the ceilings and floors, were covered with either small paintings or dried splatters of paint. (Think of the inside of Rapunzel’s tower in the movie).
You awoke on a warm summer’s morning to the sound of incessant pounding on your cabin door. While children of Iris are always pictured to be bright happy people, you were quite the opposite in the early mornings, especially if someone woke you up. You grumble as you slowly climb out of your bunk and walk towards the door. “Whoever you are, you better have a pretty good reason to wake me up.” You open the door in annoyance only to be met with Luke Castellan’s grinning face. “Morning Sunshine.” As he invites himself inside the cabin, you roll your eyes at his impromptu visit. Luke was one of the first campers to befriend you a few weeks back and ever since then he never seemed to leave your side. You didn’t really mind since he was kind to you had begun to harbor a small crush (not small at all) on him. However, you DID mind it now that he woke you up from your sleep.
“Luke, don’t get me wrong I love hanging out with you, but why are you here so early?” You cross over to your bunk, starting to get ready for the day since it was obvious you weren’t going to go to sleep anytime soon. Luke turns to you with an amused look, “You forgot didn’t you.”, you look over at him contemplating what you could have forgotten. “What do you mean… OH training was this morning!!” You exclaim as you hurriedly grab the brush and begin to brush your hair and run into the bathroom with your camp t shirt and a pair of shorts you had laid out, slamming the door shut. Luke’s smile only grows wider as he watches your crazed antics about being late to training. He chuckles as you run out the bathroom with toothbrush in mouth, hopping on foot to slid on your socks and shoes. “mrMPH. mmmrfelM” you try to say as your toothbrush is hanging out of your mouth. Luke just shakes his head smiling to himself “Maybe finish brushing your teeth first, there’s no rush since the training ring’s emptier this morning because of the volleyball game between Cabins 5 and 7”. You rush into the bathroom again to finish brushing your teeth before emerging with a shining smile that practically melted Luke’s heart.
“Okay, I’m ready. Let’s go.” you grab his hand running out of the cabin, your regular energy and optimism shone through once again. Luke laughed aloud and held your hand tighter as you both bounded over the hills and trails toward the training arena. You were so elated you almost missed the giant rainbow painting the clear blue sky. Despite being woken up, you were still going to have the best day.
Thank you for reading this far, please like or reblog if you liked it <3

You knew this summer would be different because your mother sent her wishes twice as much. On the first day of July, when children flood into Camp Half-Blood like a hive of wild bees, a rainbow always lights up the sky.
This year, there were two.
As a child of Iris you’re technically supposed to be in the Hermes cabin. But your love for art, for music, for fun, has made you a particular favourite of the Apollo cabin. Most of your friends are there. They tolerate you singing in your soft, often unsure voice. They love when you catch sunlight and filter it into prisms of colour on their cabin walls.
You’d probably move in there permanently if it weren’t for Hermes. Or rather, his son.
Over the last few months, in the sticky summer heat, your mother knew you would fall in love.
It's not any surprise you love Luke. Everyone loves Luke. A fact that's becoming more obvious every passing day.
It used to bother you less. You’ve always been his meagre, hopeless friend, never any real competition to these girls. You’d basically taken yourself out of the running and instead decided to pine after him in the very back of your mind. A safe, deluded fantasy that would never happen.
Until recently, where it seems less like a fantasy and more like a terrifying possibility.
Over the past few weeks Luke has gone out of his way to be sweet to you. Or at least you think so. He’s spent extra time talking to you at lunch, laughing at your half-formed jokes almost in earnest. At bonfires he saves you a seat, grabs you a marshmallow on occasion. You even made him a friendship bracelet of sorts—admittedly a little ugly—but he’s never taken it off. Not since the day you gave it to him.
Not to mention helping you last week before the archery competition. His hands lingering over yours as he steadied your bow, the curls of his breath on the back of your neck when he stood behind you.
“Don’t be nervous,” he says, a tinge of mirth in his voice. “You just steady your aim and first is as good as yours.”
(You came in fifteenth.)
You don’t want to say that it’s him weakening your aim, making your pulse beat out of your neck. His nose brushes against the back of your jaw as he leans forward and you smell the pine on his skin. Is this friendly? Is he this close on purpose? Are you delusional?
It’s all you’ve been thinking about these past few days. So when Luke Castellan’s endless admirers come to the forefront of your mind, you feel like all those moments of potential buildup have been ripped away.
“You alright there, sunshine?”
He takes you out of your spiral with a teasing lilt you love. When you look at him, his face is a shimmering warmth, complete with boyish smile.
“Yep,” you reply, trying to ignore the nickname making your insides flutter even though you know he’s saying it ironically.
You’ve always had a gift for identifying colour. It’s the thing you pay attention to most. Something inherited from your mother, you suppose. So you’ve memorized the way Luke’s eyes melt in the sunlight. How his scar blends with his pinking cheeks when it’s hot outside. You never told him, and you probably never will, but you’ve painted him from memory quite a few times in the Apollo cabin—always with the excuse that you were practicing. It's so blatantly obvious you're in love with him there's no point in your friends bringing it up.
The two of you are meandering around camp before dinner, a tradition Luke started early on in the summer. You talk about high points of your day (mostly you) or share nuggets of gossip you’ve heard around camp (mostly him). It's the thing you looked forward to every morning. A time when his words are just for you.
Idle chatter flows as you keep walking. Sometimes your arm brushes his and you have the embarrassing urge to tug yours away. You do your best not to stare at him too long or laugh too loud at his jokes.
“Hey, Castellan!” Someone calls.
Luke’s head turns. Your heart plummets. A beautiful girl, Aphrodite cabin, you think, is heading towards you. She’s all honey-spun hair and dazzling pink lips, and it’s obvious she knows it. You don’t know her name. But Luke does.
They fall into conversation the second she arrives. It’s just greetings, pleasantries, but there’s a coy smile on the girl’s face that betrays any sense of disinterest. “Heard you’re not too keen on pairing up with us for the Chariot Race next week. What gives?” Her tone is pouty and playful as she taps Luke’s shoulder. She side-eyes you, lips curling imperceptibly. “I’m sure you’ll have a better chance with us.”
He lets out a strained chuckle. “Dunno, just thought it was fine to switch it up.”
Just like that, you’re out of the loop again. More of her friends flock after her, and soon Luke is tangled in a whole other world. They’re all glowing with a kind of righteousness you only get when you’re popular. You know Luke has friends, tons of them. He's the leader of the cabin with the most campers. Not to mention assertive and gorgeous. His presence is so inviting it’s a challenge not to fall in love with him.
So you can’t blame this girl, the one that keeps touching his arm and giggling. It’s not like you’ve staked your claim on Luke—no one even knows you exist. As much as you want him to be yours, you know you’ll never stop someone from taking him first. It’s your fatal flaw, you think. Cowardice.
You end up sidelined completely. Watching him swathed in people more charismatic than you plants an ache deep inside you. All your wishful thinking feels sour now, a pipe dream, a bedtime story to help you sleep better. Somehow it hurts more knowing that it’s nobody’s fault but yours. These people can’t be doing this on purpose. It’s just who they are. It’s who you are—always a step behind, always daydreaming. You are your mother’s daughter, after all. Just a prism reflecting everyone around you.
Eventually, one of the boys in the group takes notice of you. He’s not nearly as captivating as Luke is—you don’t find the colours of his eyes hold as much depth. There’s also a haughtiness when he looks at you. He sneers, “What the hell do you have on your face?”
It draws the attention of others in the group. You feel like a naked sculpture in an art gallery. “Uh, what?” You stammer.
Some of them purse their lips. The girl with Luke lets a laugh slip. You’re pretty sure you look like an idiot, waiting there with your brows wrinkled in a daze. Their gazes keep flicking over to your cheek, so your hand flies up there before you can delay any more. When you press your fingers to the side of your face, they come away tacky and pink. Mortification constricts you.
Paint. It’s leftover, half-dried paint. The colour of Luke’s cheeks in the sun.
“Oh,” you say dumbly. It’s drowned by snickers. All you can do is find Luke, the only face you know, and ask, “Why didn’t you tell me?” without sounding too hurt.
You know you failed when your voice comes out wrong and his ebony brows push together. “I thought it looked—”
He never gets to finish because the golden girl laughs a little louder, the pink tones in her face a little darker. “Oh my Gods, you’re that Iris kid that’s always singing, right?” She giggles sharply, cornflower eyes darting between her friends. There’s something in there you can’t quite pick up on, until it flushes the pupils of all her friends, and they all grin with a secret knowledge they want you to see. “You’re, like, really good!” The girl simpers, but her bottom lip pulls between her teeth to soften another laugh.
“Oh, so good!” Another friend piles on.
Their passive-aggressive chuckles start to sound like hail on a window. You shift further away from them. Dirt slides beneath your shoe, and you long to kick up more of it, displace yourself, disappear.
You don’t look at Luke. The giggly, flaxen girl has already turned back to him, and you’re sure he’s enthralled once more. You try to stir up the image of Luke’s closeness during archery practice, the lilac bruise on his knuckles when he angled your bow, but it doesn’t take. Now, it feels like you’ve dreamed it.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see Luke leaning down to catch a whisper from the Aphrodite girl’s ear. The boy that first commented on your cheek leans closer to you again. He’s suffocatingly smug when he grins, “Why are you still here? Shouldn’t you go … wash that off? You don’t want to look like that at dinner.” He snorts. “For an Iris kid, you really aren’t good at taking a message.”
If you were a more confident person, maybe you’d point out how that didn’t really make sense, or how stupid it sounded coming out of his mouth. But the sentiment of it wounds you, and you’re weak enough as is.
"Guess you're right," you mumble. You wipe your face of paint as you leave. The memory of Luke’s skin stains you until you wash your hands off in the sink.
You haven’t talked to him since.
It’s been a few days of you avoiding him, and it’s hard to explain to anyone why you’ve been doing it. How do you tell the truth? Luke Castellan is a work of art and you are … a weird doodle, or something. Despite your adoration, you know there’s no reason he should feel the same for you. Everyone loves him for a reason. Everyone must ignore you for one, too.
“Why haven’t you been talking to Luke?”
The question breaks your concentrated silence in the Apollo cabin. You’ve been sitting here for a while now, humming to yourself over a mostly blank canvas. The cabin is dusted with a lilac haze, thanks to your manipulation of the light streaming through the windows. Helps you feel less like you’re at camp and more like you’re in a fairytale.
“Helloooo, lady, I asked you a question.”
You begrudgingly look up. Lee Fletcher, head of the Apollo cabin, is at the mouth of the cabin, gazing at all your supplies strewn about the floor like they’re a bunch of unsavoury substances. “It looks like a hurricane came in here. Now why aren’t you talking to Luke?”
“How do you know I’m not talking to him?” You mutter as Lee sits beside you.
“Uh, because you’ve been sleeping here multiple nights in a row and you never do that. And you don’t sit with him at dinner. And whenever we see him you drag me in the other direction—”
“Lee!”
“I’m just saying, you should probably talk about it. My beautiful voice can heal wounds, yes, but not of the heart.” He splays a hand across his chest in mock theatrics.
You don’t say anything. The familiar weight of the brush against your fingertips is far more comforting than trying to talk, so you busy yourself with your canvas again. “He waits for you, you know,” Lee continues, quieter. “In the morning. And before dinner. He always asks if you’re here.”
“Oh,” you say, and your wavering voice betrays your expression. But you think of everyone else at camp, their gleaming smiles and their celebrated parents, their own cabins and friends and dreams, how you don’t seem to have any of those. You think of the girl whispering in Luke’s ear. All her shades of beauty. You know it’s wrong to compare yourself, to be jealous. You’re just … sad.
The cabin darkens from a lilac to an imperceptibly gloomier shade. A blue sort of longing gets caught in your throat, blurring the colours on your canvas. But you keep your brush steady, focused on the scratch of its bristles so you don’t have to hear what you say next.
“I think I love him, Lee.” And then, “But I don’t think he loves me.”
There’s no sound except the scraping of your brush when it’s run out of paint, and a sniffle when a tear rolls down your cheek.
“Oh,” Lee fills the silence the way you did just moments before. Then he says your name, laced with pity, and hugs you on the floor of his lavender cabin.
“You want to help me lead the bonfire song tonight?” He asks after a minute. “Or at least … come to the bonfire song?”
“No to the first, yes to the second.”
You wish you said no to both.
The spot you choose after dinner is right next to the fire so you can distract yourself with the golden flecks of flame. Fire is so fluid, so complex, from a colour perspective. But no matter how close you get, the searing warmth can’t hide Luke’s gaze peering over the embers.
He will not. Stop. Looking at you.
The singing from the Apollo kids usually soothes you but tonight it’s just making you anxious. All this attention so close to you. Will Solace has been sitting next to you this whole time, your unofficial assigned companion for the night thanks to Lee. One of his siblings beckons him over, and he shoots you an apologetic look, hesitating. "Just go," you wave off kindly. "It's all good." He's not entirely convinced, and you aren't either, but he squeezes your shoulder with thanks and leaves you anyway.
Now you’re acutely aware the space next to you is wide open. And so is Luke, it seems. There’s an awkward moment where your gazes slide over each other and he weaves out of his current crowd towards you. So you do the most mature, sound thing you could possibly do in this situation:
You say you have to go to the bathroom to no one in particular and get out of there.
It’s dark, but you’ve got sharper eyes than most. Soon the noise of the campfire is behind you. You traipse through the camp towards the bathroom, but you don’t get far before you hear something that makes your stomach drop in the worst and best way.
Luke, calling your name.
At first you think you can get away with not hearing him. Then he calls a second, a third, a fourth time, punctuated with, “Come on, I know you can hear me, can you just turn around?”
He’s got longer legs than you so the next time he speaks it’s practically in your ear. “Hey, just look at me. Please. I want to talk to you.”
There’s something so tender in his voice that it makes you cave immediately. But you already feel so fragile, you can feel the tears behind your eyes. You know you won’t have the strength to talk to him.
His hand curls gently around your wrist and it sends warmth all the way up your arm. He says your name again, softer, and you love the way it sounds. You can’t meet his eyes, but you already know what he looks like. Even in the dark you picture him crystal clear.
“Look at me,” he repeats. “I just—I need to know what I did wrong.”
His dark eyes are full and apprehensive when you heed him. You notice how much you’ve missed studying his face—the slight bunch of his brows, the tensing in his jaw. And you almost delude yourself that he’s missed you just as much, the way he squeezes your wrist and rakes over your expression.
“Why are you ignoring me?” He asks.
“I’m not—”
“You are. I know you. Just tell me why.”
He looks so sweet, so earnest, and it kills you. You think of the way he looked when all his friends made fun of you. It all comes up before you can help it.
“Do you always let me walk around looking like an idiot?” You ask bitingly, staring at the floor. “The thing, with the paint on my cheek—why didn’t you tell me? I looked so stupid and all your friends just laughed at me!”
His face falls. “I tried to tell you, I thought—”
“It’s okay to say you don’t like me, or that you’re embarrassed, or whatever, but I …” You swallow, tears thick on your lower lashes. “Everyone makes fun of me. I don’t know why you don’t.”
“Because I do like you,” he states, hand moving up to your forearm.
“Don’t say that,” you whisper. “You’re so much … better, you know you are, and I don’t want your pity, or your spare time. I just—I made something up in my head that wasn’t there and I only noticed it the other day after you talked to that girl and that guy made fun of me and I’m really, really sorry—”
“It looked cute. I was trying to say I didn’t tell you about the paint because I thought it was cute.”
There’s a lull.
“What?” You blink stupidly.
“I know I should’ve told you about it, but I swear I was going to before dinner, I didn’t think we’d run into anyone before then.” His cheeks tinge red. “I had this whole dumb thing planned out where I’d wipe it off your cheek and tell you how cute it was once you got embarassed. I was waiting to tell you. I was thinking about it the whole time.”
His hand on your arm is a frighteningly grounding thing. You're dumbstruck by that alone. Your lips part, but all that comes out is, “Why?”
A gentle laugh tumbles out of his throat. “Why do you think?”
His other hand comes up to brush your cheekbone, where the paint had been, and you can imagine him doing it to you on that day. How you'd probably react just the way he said you would, the way you are now. A warm orange glow blooming in your chest. “But the girl—”
“She tried whispering to me how much she liked my bracelet,” he smiles fondly. “Told her you made it for me. It shut her up. I don’t know what that guy said to you but I chewed ‘em all out the second you left. They knew I wasn’t happy. I tried looking for you but you were gone. I don't like them, you know."
You don’t know what to say. It’s too difficult, too uncertain for you to jump the gun on this. So you just stare at all the shifting colours on his face as he moves closer to you. All this time going over his every detail, and there's still more to be enthralled by.
“I found the paintings,” he says, voice so close you can feel it brushing your skin. “The ones of me. I was looking for you in the Apollo cabin a week ago and you left one out. I knew it was yours because ... I mean, there’s no one in the world that can make me look that … beautiful.”
The last word is apprehensive but it’s spoken with an unimaginable tenderness. He looks a little teary himself. You think you’re dreaming. “I knew I had to tell you after that. I’ve been trying to tell you. But you started pulling away from me so I thought I was making it all up.”
“Tell me what?” It’s a ghost of a question between you, an impossible thing, but the hand on your arm slips around to your back and he presses it there with such certainty.
“You’re really gonna make me say it?” He cocks his head, but you nod. “I’m in love with you, I think.”
The words cascade over you in ribbons of warmth. Your brain feels fuzzy, seperate from the rest of your body. Your mouth opens multiple times but you can’t seem to control what comes out. “Luke, are you joking?”
“Not even a little.”
“But you’ve got so many other—”
“I want you.”
“I am literally the most incompetent person alive; I can’t sing, I can’t talk to people, I have a weird knee—”
"Your knee is fine!"
"I'm just saying, this makes no sense from an outsider perspective, it's—"
“Okay, clearly the telling thing isn’t working so I guess I’m just gonna have to kiss you.”
It happens so quickly you don’t have any time to think (probably for the better). You let out a surprised “oh” before his mouth silences you, stopping every other thought. He’s gentle, thumb still rubbing your cheekbone, other hand still firm at your waist. You want to panic—where should you put your hands? How do you know you’re doing this right? But he steadies you, the way he always does, and you give in.
He starts to smile against your lips. You’re almost positive the intensity of your heartbeat could summon a storm. When he pulls away, he kisses the corners of your mouth and you think you’re going to evaporate. “I don’t think I’m very good at this,” you whisper.
“You’re perfect.” He grins a little when your hands tentatively tug at a curl on the nape of his neck. “And none of that stuff you say is true. I mean, you’re definitely a better singer than me.”
Leaning close to your ear, he warbles out a song you know but gets the words horribly wrong anyways. You can’t help but laugh. “Okay, maybe you have a point.”
He hums and chuckles with you. You swear the moon gets brighter when he wraps his arms around your waist to kiss the side of your face. “Next time you paint me, I want to be there when you do it.”
You blush harder than you ever have in your life. “Only if you try painting me,” you say quietly.
“Of course. You’re very pretty, so I’m sure my horrible artistic skills won’t even make you look bad.”
Luke lets you press your face into the crook of his neck. You soak it up for all it’s worth.
In the morning, you wake up in the same position. Your nose tucked against his collarbone, the shade of pink you love freckled across his cheeks. You can't wait to paint him again.
When you look out the window, you say a silent, grateful prayer to your mother.
She's given you two more rainbows.

masterlist
Tumblr media
Trying to convince your mortal friends that you had previously stayed at a summer camp since you were thirteen proved to be difficult especially when you can't tell them about the whole demigod situation.
What seemed impossible to convince them was the fact that you had a boyfriend who stayed there too. Which in itself was rude, but then again you had no photos of him or any form of proof of his existence, until today.
Luke had bribed Chiron (with the promise of making sure the Stolls relaxed on the pranks for awhile) into letting him pick you up and escort you back to camp, for protection of course.
Totally not because he missed you, and definitely not because Chris Rodriguez had practically thrown him out of camp being fed up with Luke and his moping around since your absence.
Walking out of the front doors, everyone spilled out of the school building. Slowly your friends grouped at the bottom on the stone stairs.
"Hey y/n since its the last day we're going to the cafe on second street, you wanna come with?" One of your friends called out.
"Can't sorry guys, Luke's picking me up" You said apologeticly, with a smile at the mention of Luke.
"Ooh Luke huh? Does this mean we'll finally meet him"
"Wait who's Luke?"
"Y/n's boyfriend who's a complete ghost story"
The group burst with gossip. Sighing quietly to yourself, its not your fault demigods cant use phones. He'd told you of his plan of bribing Chiron the night before when you both had your nightly Iris Message.
You scout the streets, looking for said boy when you heard a very familiar voice call out your name. Quickly turning around to see him standing there, still in his orange camp shirt. You rush towards him, practically crashing into him.
"I take it you missed me huh?" He says with a breathless chuckle.
"You have no idea, having to explain the monster i just killed in the middle of AP Algebra without your charm was exhausting."
"Only missing my gifts, quite hurtful sweetheart" He jokingly pulls away from the embrace.
"Oh shush you idiot" you lightly smack his shoulder as he laughs at your terrible comeback.
You grab his hand pulling him towards the unmoving group of your friends.
"C'mon I've got to prove your not just real but also as hot as I said you were"

previous | next series masterlist.
summary: you haven’t been given a quest, but you have made it your personal mission to make luke castellan smile.
paring: luke castellan x unclaimed!reader
word count: 4k
content: luke is still a moody teenager, reader is still the fly he cant get rid of. does he really want to, though?
notes: these first two parts feel very introductory but it gets juicy as we dive a little further in the next parts hehe. also who do we think readers godly parent is?
PART II — and lord, she found me just in time
For a hotshot lawyer, your mom couldn’t lie for the life of her. Every time you brought it up, she’d always quip that she didn’t need to be a good liar to be a good lawyer, since all new evidence is legally required to be disclosed to both parties before they are presented in court. Therefore, there is no lying, only brief twisting of the truth. She was good at that — clearly.
“You said you didn’t want me to leave you!”
The wooden floor of Chiron’s office wasn’t the most comfortable of lounging places, but you’d accidentally kicked the radiator after tripping over a horseshoe and Mr. D — who had escorted you there when you’d asked about speaking to your mom — had just sighed and told you to use the mist currently spraying from it as a form of communication. The whole Iris Message thing was still unusual to you, but at the same time, you’d tripped over a horseshoe because the owner of the office was half-horse. Does it get weirder than that? Probably not.
You leaned back on your haunches, disbelief written all over your face at the scene you…walked in on? Called in on? Iris Messaged in on? Whatever — you were more worried about what you were looking at than the right terminology to describe it.
“Oh — sweetie!” Your mom was quick to hop down from the kitchen counter, pushing the man who had been standing between her legs away from her so forcefully he fell back into the living room.
“What was that?” You heard him ask from afar. Your mom chuckled, buttoning up her blouse.
“The answering machine.” She excused, “I completely forgot I was supposed to call back my daughter. Would you give me a minute?”
The man agreed with a huff and your mom pushed the kitchen door closed with a click before looking at you, narrowing her eyes and crossing her arms, “I didn’t. I sure do now!”
“I’ve been gone for, like, two days!” You exclaimed, “And you’re already inviting your boyfriend over? How old are you?”
“Oh, let it go.” The woman chastised, shaking her head and attempting to push down her amused smile. “I was bored.”
“Bored.” You chuckled, “Of course.”
“But I miss you.” She said then, smiling sweetly and leaning her hip on the island, “How’s camp?”
“It’s great.” You grinned, “The people are great, the food is great. Turns out, I am super with a spear.”
“A spear, huh?” Your mom nodded, “No surprise there, you’ve got a hell of an arm.”
You hummed excitedly, the previous event long forgotten as you filled her in on your first few days at camp, “One of my friends in cabin nine offered to make me a personal one.” Your mom furrowed her brows, “Children of Hephaestus. Blacksmith guy.”
“Right.” She nodded with a click of her tongue. “Well, I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.”
“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself.” You smirked cheekily, ignoring the scoff and evil look she sent you in response.
“Alright. I best go.” She interrupted just as you went to make another comment about her guest, “I will see you at the end of summer. Okay?”
“Okay. Love you.”
Truthfully, you were happy to spend the rest of the day talking to your mom — it was so hot that morning that you’d thought about sacrificing your breakfast to Apollo in hopes that he’d ease up a little. You decided against it and just sent your prayers to each of them in general, hoping maybe your dad could fess up to actually being your dad.
Clarisse had suspected you would soon join her in the Ares Cabin — something about your skills with a spear and the swift right hook you sent Chris when he made one too many comments on your form during your training session with her. You weren’t even sure why he’d been there, but you could probably fathom a guess if you judged by the looks he sent her whenever she wasn’t looking.
After the exciting discovery that yes, you were good at something, Mr. D had come by to say you could either call your mom now or never. You chose the former option, obviously, and you only regretted it slightly as you heaved yourself up from the ground — already missing the sound of her voice.
You didn’t let it linger, instead you pushed the creaky door of the Big House open as gently as you could, even though it still swung back against the wall, and nodded at the pair sitting on the porch, currently in a heated card game you couldn’t recognise. They didn’t look at you for long, Chiron muttering something about meeting the Demeter kids by the fields to test your gardening skills before putting down a card that made Mr. D grumble in his seat.
You were trudging through the grass, huffing when the longer bits tickled your legs and made you go all itchy, when you spotted a body sat by the hearth in the horseshoe of cabins. You lit up, changing course and jogging over to them, “JoJo!”
Luke looked up at you, frowning, “What?”
His curls fell over his eyes and he shook them away, only to squint at the sun that shone into them. You sidestepped, your shadow proving ample shade so he could focus on you, and you stammered a bit when his face fell into focus. He was pretty.
You let out a breathless chuckle, folding your arms, “From Horton Hears a Who.” He shows no signs of recognition, “You’ve never seen it?” Again, his face did little to answer you, so you shrugged, “Whatever. I’ll get an answer out of you one day, I’m sure. We’ve made steady progress.”
“Have we?” He hummed, picking at the worn sleeve of his hoodie.
“Of course we have, ya’ nutmegger.” You quipped with a short chuckle, grinning when his eyes snapped back to yours.
“You still haven’t told me where you’re from.”
You tutted, “Where’s the fun in that? You gotta find out.”
He huffed, “Whatever.”
Since his outburst about New England the day before, Luke had done a considerable job at avoiding you. Well, you didn’t think he was doing it on purpose — he just wasn’t obligated to spend time with you anymore now that you were cleared to roam camp on your own. You’d seen him at breakfast, perched silently on the end of the bench and staring sadly at his soggy oatmeal, but then Clarisse had whisked you off to the training fields with Chris hot on her tail and you hadn’t seen him since.
You weren’t completely sure why you were so determined to break his shell. Maybe it was because you knew he never used to be this way — that underneath the deep frowns and annoyed huffs, was a happy boy who would spend days in the sun with his teeth bared in a wide grin — and you yearned to get a peek of who Luke Castellan used to be. To bear your eyes on the side of him he kept away and to find out why he did so, to understand him on a level deeper than anyone around you did, or even deeper than you understood yourself.
Or maybe because he’s hot.
Either way, you weren’t letting him slide away that easily. No sir. You straightened your back, “Going to the gardens.”
No reply, as usual.
A huff, “Mind walking me? I don’t wanna get lost.”
He looked at you, brown eyes flitting over your expression, before licking his lips and standing, “Fine.”
You grinned then, wide and sunny, “Great.”
You knew where the gardens were — hell, you could see them from where you stood, the two teenage sons of Dionysus chasing each other with sticks while the Demeter kids scowled at them. But you were new, and Luke was ‘the guy’ for all the new campers, so really he wasn’t allowed to say no.
You were desperate to know more about him; his favourite sport, movie, colour. Anything irrelevant that you could see in public and think: Luke. You just didn’t know where to start — he could shut down at any given moment, so which question was more fitting to ask before he built up his walls and fucked off?
You settled for something easy — something subtle that wouldn’t hint towards you asking about him. An easy question that any reasonable tour guide would have to answer.
So, do you guys host any…mortal activities?” Looking up at him in question, brows raised as he once again made no indication that he’d even heard you speak.
But he had, “Not usually. Sometimes on weekends we’ll play volleyball on the beach, and I think Lee Fletcher has a soccer ball he kicks around but…” He shrugged, “No. Not really.”
You hummed, “You said we. Do you play volleyball?”
Nice one.
Luke stiffened a little, sort of appalled that you’d swerved the question on him so easily, but he answered with a grumble, “Not anymore.”
“Why?”
He shrugged, “Grew out of it.”
“Huh.” You said then, facing forward with a nod and continuing your trek through the long grass, occasionally reaching down to scratch your calves, “I don’t think I’ll ever grow out of baseball.”
Come on, Castellan, take the bait.
“Baseball?”
“Yes!” You exclaimed, a little too excitedly for it to be a simple answer to a simple question. You lowered your volume and gave a more collected nod, “Yeah. Yes. I’ve played since I was old enough…little league.” You let out a weak chuckle, suddenly shy about the subject.
Luke nodded at you, “First base?”
“Left field.” You corrected with a proud smile, “I got legs.”
“Oh.” He replied, a little caught off guard at that. Although, he was also caught off guard when you said you played baseball.
You were debating whether or not to press when a gangly blonde boy with dark purple eyes jogged up to you and held out a wicker basket, “You’re the new kid right?” He didn’t wait for an answer before thrusting the basket to your chest, “I’m Pollux. We’re picking strawberries, c’mon, I’ll show you the best way to get ‘em.”
You weren’t sure there was a specific tactic to picking strawberries, but you stepped to follow him anyway. Turning your head to send a thankful smile to Luke for walking you down, you spotted him looking between you and Pollux with furrowed brows — then he noticed your stare and swallowed, nodding, “Uh, see you later.”
“Bye.” You replied, slightly starstruck. He walked off, but he did it slowly as if he was unsure of where to go next. You were positive he had somewhere to be — big shot counsellor and all — but as you stood, one foot in front of the other, face turned back to watch him go, he seemed to stutter in his steps at the top of the hill, deciding where to turn. His beaten converse led him west, and Pollux yelled you out of your stupor so you could help him and his brother pick strawberries.
As suspected, your strawberry-picking skills were pretty much the same as everyone else’s — really, how can one person be any better at picking strawberries than another? It’s a very simple task. Either way, Castor and Pollux didn’t envision you as their long lost sister, and the Demeter kids apparently couldn’t smell it on you that you were one of them, whatever that meant, so you were back to your search for daddy dearest — at this point, you weren’t even sure if you wanted to find out anymore. All this hassle and for what? It’s not as if he was going to attend the daddy-daughter dance with you, no matter which god he might be.
“So, do you, like, know Luke or something?”
Henry Furstatt was a Demeter kid a couple of years younger than you, who had been set the task of walking you to the lake where you would rejoin the Hermes cabin on their canoe lesson. He wasn’t very talkative until you’d put some distance between yourselves and the strawberry fields, where he posed his question.
You glanced at him with a thoughtful frown, “I mean, he’s been showing me around the past couple days, so…I guess —“
“I meant like,” He swallowed, waving his hands around, “from before. Did you know each other before you came to camp?”
“Oh.” You responded, tucking a loose hair that had fallen in front of your face away, “No. Why’d you think that?”
Henry shrugged, his loose-fitting camp shirt doing wonders to hide the movements, “Dunno. He just hasn’t talked to many people since he got back from his quest…but he’s talking to you.”
“Well.” You were suddenly a little sheepish — were you pushing Luke too much? Was your constant questioning making him uncomfortable? You were only on a mission to find out more about him because he interested you, but did you interest him, or was he ready to boot you as far as you’d fly? “He has to, doesn’t he? He’s still a counsellor, even if he does hate everyone here.”
“True.” He settled with a nod, fiddling with a daisy he’d picked while you were walking.
You breathed a content sigh when you finally stepped out of the grass — the summer blooming made it slightly unbearable to walk through, tickling at your legs the whole afternoon. The beating sun didn’t make you feel any nicer, but you just wafted your shirt a little as you walked past the Hermes cabin and towards the dock.
Camp was always noisy; something you’d grown accustomed to the longer you stayed there. You never really noticed it until you were alone, but the chatter of the kids filled the air the whole day and only really faded out when they all went to sleep. It was slightly unnerving to sit in the silence, and the loud murmurs often comforted you — made you feel less suffocated as the new kid. Less eyes on you, the better.
You were so used to the noise, in fact, that you almost completely brushed past the argument that was brewing outside the Ares cabin just a few metres away. Fortunately, Henry spotted the commotion, and pulled you to a halt in favour of staring at the ever-growing crowd.
You followed his eyeline and spotted a burly looking boy with black hair — when he moved his head and the sun hit the right spots, you could see dark red highlights swimming in his locks. You thought that was a little bit much, but you forfeited commenting on it considering the giant machaira that hung on his back.
The boy in question was sneering at someone in front of him, but the corners of his mouth were perked up in an amused smile that made you think he wasn’t angry yet, but he sure was getting there. You couldn’t see who he was talking to, but as Henry ventured closer, you were forced to follow and eventually his words reached your ears.
“—big shot golden boy finally got himself a quest and doesn’t fancy sharing the details.” He laughed, deep and low in his throat.
Henry patted someone on the shoulder, and they stepped aside to let him into the circle. You stayed behind him, watching over his head and finally checking out the opponent. Your eyes stopped on the familiar figure, and his familiar curls that hung over his eyes — eyes that were glaring daggers in the Ares kid’s direction, casting shadows over his cheekbones and making his scar look a little menacing.
The boy continued after Luke showed no signs of replying, “We get it, Castellan. You failed, but that doesn’t mean you get to gatekeep the whole thing.”
“Dean, man.” You finally noticed Chris, standing off to the side of Luke and glancing at his brother in apprehension at the boy's words. “Back off.”
Dean just snorted, “Don’t defend him, Rodriguez. We let him mope, now it’s time for him to spill the beans.” He took a step closer to Luke, “What happened on your quest?”
You had only known Luke for two days. You weren’t sure if he was the type to fly off the handle, swing before reasoning, but you suddenly became aware that neither did anyone else. Sure, these people had known him for years — but you’d heard it from enough people to know that he was a different person these days. After his quest a couple of weeks ago, people had been walking on eggshells around the boy. Maybe a month ago, he would’ve calmly walked away and let Dean simmer in his anger. But now? Nobody could be sure, but judging by the look in his eyes, darkening by the second, you might be able to fathom a guess as to what he’s going to do with his hands now that they were rolled into fists.
“I mean, is this about glory? Because you won’t exactly be sharing it — ya’ can’t share what you don’t have.”  Dean let out a chortle at his own joke, looking between his friends around him and grinning with them.
Luke stepped forward. And — you couldn’t blame anyone, really. After that last comment, you were all expecting fists to be swung. It was only reasonable. Maybe the old Luke wouldn’t have done it, but this new Luke was looking increasingly more angry at the world as the days went by, so when he took one measly step forward, the crowd around him let out a collective woah! and put their hands out to stop him from lunging. Including yourself.
Only he wasn’t about to punch Dean. His hand stayed dormant at his side, the only clear movement was the single step closer he’d taken to match the one the Ares boy had made earlier. He was only really stepping forward so his next words would hit harder — that’s all it was, words. They died on his lips when he realised the implications of his actions, looking between the outstretched arms and tense faces.
He looked at Dean, “We can discuss quests when you get your own.”
Then he walked off, past the crowd that didn’t bother stopping him. Looking around, you saw the looks on their faces — shame, from assuming Luke would evoke such violence off the sparring mat. You definitely felt it, but you didn’t stick around long enough to confirm that with anyone else. Instead, you left Chris to berate Dean in place of the head counsellor and followed the boy in question as he huffed up the hill towards the edge of the woods.
“Hey!” You said, breathless (you were not an uphill climber). “Hey, Luke!”
He hesitated in his steps like he did earlier, but he didn’t turn around. His head twitched a little, like he wanted to look but was holding himself back, but you simply rounded him until you were face to face. The anger had long since dissolved from his expression, replaced with soft confusion.
“Hi.” You huffed, still recovering from that incline, “Are you okay? That guy’s a dick.”
“I know.” He replied, short as usual.
You licked your lips, still catching your breath, and nodded. He remained silent, looking around you like he was just waiting for you to leave. You decided to take the hint, muttering lowly, “Okay, sorry for bothering you.”
But his hand reached out, circling your wrist just as you passed him. You looked at Luke, raising your eyebrows, watching as he stammered on his words, “I, uh, you aren’t bothering me. I just…”
He let go of you and you stepped back to your precious spot. Behind him, the crowd had dissipated, Dean long gone. Chris remained, staring up at the pair of you on top of the hill. You couldn’t pinpoint his expression, but he seemed to hesitate before turning his back. You looked up at Luke.
“Why did you…come after me?”
You scoffed a laugh, “What? Anyone would’ve, it’s like…common decency.”
He twisted his expression, looking amused and devastated all at the same time, “But they didn’t.”
He was right; before you’d set off up the hill, everyone had just been watching him walk off. It seemed a little out of character, but then again, you didn’t know these people as well as you thought. Luke let out a sad chuckle, shaking his head, “Everyone’s sorta given up on me now that I’m…”
“Moody and depressed?” You finished, raising a single brow. You smiled at him, and it lifted into a grin when he smiled back, albeit only slightly. But you’d take it. “I just think that they’re a little unsure.”
“They’re scared, is what they are.” He said firmly, staring at the ground in mirth, “Their precious golden boy won’t clean up all of their messes anymore and they’re scared that they’ll have to start looking after themselves.”
“I don’t think that’s true.” You said, even if you didn’t believe it. How could you? You didn’t know these people, Luke did. “They’re just worried about you.”
He scoffed, finally moving his head up and meeting your eyes. He went to say something, presumably another quip about the campers, but stopped himself. Backtracked. Instead he said, “Aren’t you angry that you haven’t been claimed yet?”
That was a deep question. You sat on it for a couple of seconds, reeling at the sudden shift of conversation, until you finally let out a low puff of air and shrugged, “I don’t really know how I feel. Why? Should I be?”
“This camp, it’s —“ He huffed, “It helps you, sure. But it also forces you to…mould yourself into the perfect kid for — for a parent who doesn’t care enough to watch you grow up. Help you live, use their divine powers when a dragon is clawing your fucking face off!”
He’d stepped closer to you, unknowingly, that final shout making you wince a little at the volume. He stopped then, evening his breaths and stepping back with an apologetic expression. You brushed it off.
“A dragon clawed your face off?”
“Yeah.” He chuckled weakly, “Tell anyone and I’ll kill you.”
You smiled at him, shamefully admiring his face. Now that he wasn’t glaring in anger, and his face was more relaxed, you could see the whites of his eyes. His lashes, unreasonably long, and his lips that were so plush you were close to asking him if he took a trip to see Dr Miami while he was on his quest.
“Gods.” You murmured under your breath, “You’re so pretty it sorta pisses me off.”
Luke laughed then — a genuine chortle that shook his chest and made passers by glance in his direction. His grin was uncharacteristically wide and for a second, a brief moment, you saw it. Luke Castellan, the one everyone looks up to. The one they turn to in times of peril, the one they giggle and gossip about under the shade of the fir trees.
Then you knew your answer to Luke’s question. No — you weren’t angry that you hadn’t been claimed. In fact, you didn’t think you’d care even if you were so long as he was smiling at you like that.
He calmed down, catching his breath, his face relaxing back into that cool expression he’s always got on. Maybe your eyes were playing tricks on you, but you were sure he looked a little less tense than before. He nodded, waving a hand, “Alright, Sunny. Let’s go canoeing.”
“Sunny?” You asked, walking alongside him.
He clicked his tongue, glancing down at you, “If Apollo won’t claim you as a child of the sun, then I will.”
“Alright.” You smiled softly, looking forward so he wouldn’t see it and run off. You picked at your nails, “So long as I can call you JoJo.”
“Let’s watch that silly movie it’s from and I’ll decide if you can call me that.”
“Deal.”

a/n: so sorry, was taking a slight break on requests for this fic and the fic series that is in the works. I promise i will answer the requests at some point.

“Medic!” The door to the medical cabin slammed open. The door knob made a hole in wooden walls at Annabeth’s strength. “Will…”
She rasped out, carrying your dead weight. Your breath coming in short bursts as if your lungs couldn’t hold any more air. Veins darkened to the color of night, crawling up your flesh like a parasite itching to take over the host.
“Oh my gods…” Will Solace, head counselor of Apollo Cabin, gasped and helped you onto one of the uncomfortable cots.
You were mumbling nonsense as black liquid dribbled out of your mouth. Will called out your name, desperately trying to grab your attention. Annabeth was standing over you, concerned.
“Oh gods! Oh gods, oh gods, oh gods!” The other Apollo kid on duty piped up, scrambling to find the ambrosia. It was scary how you looked.
It was like something from the Underworld took hold of your body. There was a puncture wound on your abdomen, which was the probable entrance for the poison.
“Hey, hey—stay conscious for me, okay?” Will spoke as your vision began to get cloudy. He can see you withering away and demanded for information.
“Will…” You managed to croak out. Your friend looked at you with worry, to see the brightest camper succumb to an unknown illness was…bone-chilling.
“Don’t sleep—just don’t black out.” Will muttered as you tasted your favorite fruits as ambrosia slid down your throat easily. “Please…I don’t know if you’ll wake up—”
You were out like a light. The ambrosia combating the poison overwhelmed your body. It was too much for your mind to even find a sliver of energy to try and stay conscious.
Your name was shouted, but sleep pulled you away from the medical cabin and throwing you into a different scene.
It was dark, like you were walking in an empty void. “Judgement.”, you think. You must’ve died and was waiting to get judged on whether you can enter Elysium or not.
What a shitty death. Dying from poison, it wasn’t hero worthy nor significant to a war. Just death to some ghastly poison that you were careless to figuring out what it was.
But…it’s not Judgement. It’s not because you see him. He’s walking around in clothes you last remember him in. Orange Camp Half-Blood shirt, khaki pants and sneakers. The beads on his necklace moving each time he walked.
You know he isn’t dead. He Iris-messaged you yesterday to apologize for his betrayal. He can’t be dead. You wouldn’t have it.
“Luke!” You tried to call out, but no sound is made from your mouth. It terrified you. You tried to scream your lover’s (ex-lover’s) name again as you saw claws wrap around Luke from the ground and drag him in.
You tried to scream his name again, running to him, but your legs felt like sludge. He stared at you indifferently, accepting his reality—maybe…maybe just maybe you could save him if you run fast enough.
He slipped between your fingers. His chocolate curls disappearing into the floor of whatever abyss you’re in. You let out a silent, dry sob. If…if you had just noticed sooner…you could’ve saved him.
The same hands wrap around your limbs, tugging you down into the floor. Crying out for help, your heart tightened as if someone had a grip on it—squeezing ever last bit of life out. A sharp pull engulfed you into the void.
You gasped deeply. Body launching forward as you grabbed at your chest. You expected the familiar wood floors of the medical cabin or even Will’s warm smile, but…you were on Half-Blood Hill.
Soft, calloused hands were gently placed in your spine. It doesn’t take an Athena kid to figure out who it was.
“You alright?” His deep warm tone filled your head making yourself dizzy. For moment…you allowed yourself to believe he was here, truly.
“Yeah.” You spoke, surprised to hear your voice again. What happened before becoming less and less memorable as you turned to look at Luke.
“You can tell me, y’know? What’s bothering you.” Luke reassured and tucked a piece of hair behind your ear.
A familiar smile graces your lips, allowing yourself to relax, you lean up against his chest. “I know.” You mumbled as his toned arms wrap around you. “I just…miss you.”
“Miss me? I’m hardly ever away from you.” Luke playfully teased.
The breeze blew against the two of you causing Luke to squeeze you a little tighter. You always claimed he was a human body heater.
Everything dropped. Faded in an all too quick manner before you could even scream for Luke. He was ripped away from you—but you were supposed to be in his arms.
“Hey! She’s up!” Someone called out.
You mind felt fuzzy. Mumbles, moans and groans tumbled out of your lips. You felt like you were outta your own skin—you jerked. Uncomfortable with this sudden irritation.
Annabeth yelped. The sudden reaction from you almost hit her in the face. Another groan of discomfort and pain escaped. Accompanied by it was another struggle to get whatever was out of your body.
To you, it felt like you were shifting a little to get comfortable. In reality, your body was violently twitching and reacting you hit a few Apollo kids. The veins darker than before, your skin paler than usual. What did this poison do?
“Get her—restrain…I—” Will demanded, worried you’d end up hurting yourself.
You screamed as something grabbed you, someone grabbed you. Your brain could only register it as danger and hurt and agony and—
“Stop it—!” You begged. Your voice sounded demented, as if it was the poison talking.
Black liquid oozed out of your mouth as you begged for whatever to stop. Ambrosia was forced down your throat. Lights were too bright. The panic was defeating.
You fell.
But you felt no pain.
It was “Judgement” again. The endless void surrounding the distinct figure, you. “There you are…” Luke grinned once he spotted you. Your legs carrying you to the Hermes’ counselor before you could think of the action.
The void morphed into the familiar forest used to play Capture the Flag. Luke laced his hand with yours. “S’just up ahead.” He tugged you along.
Once more, you let yourself relax like this was the reality that fate has set and not one where Luke betrayed Camp, betrayed Percy, betrayed Annabeth, betrayed…you.
“Where are you taking me?” You laughed. A bright smile on your face as you maneuvered through the forest.
Slipping through the trees and branches, Luke brings you to the dock. The water washing up on the small beach.
A small cliche red and white checkered blanket laid out across the wooden dock, masking the potential splinters. There was chips and two soda cans on the blanket and six roses bunched up to make it look like a bouquet.
“Oh Luke…” Any confusion or anger evaporated when you saw the scene.
He smiled, smiled that charming grin and pulled you to sit down on the blanket. “Used up the rest of my money for the snacks and to bargain with a Demeter kid for these.”
He held up the six roses. The petals a delicate red, soft as a baby’s bum. They smelled nice. He went through all this effort for you?
“Luke…” You repeat in the same tone and took the roses from his hand. You noticed the thorns were cut off and a couple of band aids were around his fingers.
A show of his effort to rid the thorns so you didn’t prick your fingers.
“This…this is all wonderful.” You said, albeit a bit breathless. The roses, the snacks, the blanket—all the thought put into this date. It made you forget you were dreaming. You should’ve known…this was too good to be true.
But you stayed oblivious and in denial, tackling your (ex) boyfriend in a grateful hug. Luke laughed and wrapped your arm around your waist.
Yet, your subconscious pulled you from the happy moment. An uncomfortable feeling itching to tear your guts and organs to shreds. It was as if your own organs and nerves did not belong there—like they were in the wrong body. A warbled scream left your throat. Hands desperate to claw at your flesh.
You wanted it to stop—you would do anything to get this feeling to stop. Your heart breaking. To be ripped away from Luke again and again. In both subconscious and reality was cruel.
Your veins now tendrils crawling up your face, stopping just a little above your eyebrows.
“Hey, hey—breathe!” Someone comforted. You couldn’t recognize their face. It was like as if your sense of familiarity disappeared, triggering your fight or flight (mostly fight) response.
“Will—the antidote?!” A girl called out. Her voice somewhat familiar.
You struggled against binds. You wanted to run far, far away and stop this pain. The pain in your body, the pain in your mind…the agonizing ache in your heart.
“Luke—” The name left your lips desperate for any sort of answer to what was happening.
A small pinch.
Fire. White hot pain sprouting in your body. Burning your insides out. Another cry for help. Another scream of desperation. His name leaving your mouth. It hurt—it hurt all too much. Both the burning in your body and the reality of him being gone. Truly, gone.
“Luke! Please…please—help!”
Overwhelmed, you were sucked back into the dream. This time on a cabin bed. It was unclear on whose cabin you two were in. Luke had his arms around your waist, head on your stomach. The pain fleeting, but lingering.
The stars shined brights whilst the moonlight blessed you two. It was peaceful, almost…dare you say—normal. No gods, no goddesses, no prophecies, no quests, no betrayal, no hurt. Nothing.
You found yourself humming, running your fingers through his curls, and feeling your eyes close with fatigue.
“Falling asleep there, sweetheart?” You could feel his smile against your skin. He pressed a kiss to the flesh nearest to his lips.
“Mhm…” Your body flared up due to a burn—but there was no fire in the cabin. You stayed put. “I—I could spend all of eternity with you.”
“I could spend all of my time in Elysium with you.” Luke mumbled and turned his head to look up at you.
He pushed himself up onto his elbows, then his hands, so he was close to you. Lips connected like hands clasping for prayer. It was soft, yet it spoke a lot of words that he could not get out.
“I love you. Never forget that, okay?” Luke whispered against your lips.
His beaded necklace hovering over you. You placed your arms around his neck slowly and kissed him again. Never wanting the moment to stop.
Even then, you never had the courage to say those three simple words to Luke. Realizing this might be the last time you see him, dream or not. It made you sad he never heard it from you.
Maybe this will make up for it?
“I love you—I love you. I love you.” You repeated. Your voice shaky, holding back tears. This wasn’t real and you know it’s not real—but…you missed Luke. You missed him so much that it hurts. You didn’t believe he would betray Camp Half-Blood and you without Kronos’ manipulation.
“Hey…” Luke cupped your face and kissed your forehead. He grabbed your arms to sit up. It wasn’t good to cry laying down. “Don’t tear up. Everything will be okay, okay? I’m sorry.”
“Sorry? What are you—?”
“I’m sorry, but you have the wake up.” Luke sighed and pressed his forehead with yours.
“Wait—“
“You have to wake up.” Luke grasped your hands. He held you as if this was the last time.
“What?”
“I love you very much and—and I’m so sorry for leaving you there—“
“Luke—wait!”
Your eyes shot up to be met with wooden walls of the medical cabin. Will and Annabeth shot up, ready to take necessary precautions. A dry sob left your mouth.
“Hey…” Will spoke softly.
You sat up, tears cascading down your face. You started to helplessly wipe them. You could feel his touch lingering. His hands grasping yours. Will pulled you into a soft hug when he deducted the poison was out of your system.
The mind is cruel, the poison was cruel. Fate was cruel, life was cruel.
You missed him.
You buried into Will as if it was him. Will and Annabeth thought you were crying because of the overwhelming feelings of what happened when you were poisoned.
You missed him.

a change of heart - luke castellan x child of iris!reader
Tumblr media
warnings: betrayal scene, heartbreak, injuries, sword-fighting, uncontrollable angst the reader should be gender neutral and this is proofread, but i might’ve made some mistakes! please let me know if there is and i’ll fix it asap
word count: 2k
DISCLAIMER: some of the dialogue from this story is from episode 8 of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series on Disney+. this is because i wanted the reader to feel as if they were experiencing the scene first hand. since i fear the disney conglomerate, this dialogue is highlighted in orange
you stood in between percy and annabeth in the doorway of cabin 14, listening to luke’s explanation of what was going on. as far as you knew, clarisse had stolen the master bolt, percy was accused of it, and poseidon had just surrendered to zeus and called off the war. you had stayed at camp the entire summer to you had learned quickly to not question things that happened in the demigod world, accepting each new piece of information nearly immediately as it came. as a friend and a dedicated helper, you took to offering your help any time luke needed to release stress, whether verbally or physically. over time, your friendship started to evolve into a situationship. instead of quiet nights whispering about your parents’ involvement in your trauma and sparring in the arena until bruises formed across your limbs, it became quiet nights kissing in the empty cabins during the bonfires and pulling each other behind the trees by the wrist. it seemed as if your lips were the only thing that could soothe the permanent wrinkle in between luke’s eyebrows. you could tell something serious was going on, but it was easier to let him brood and offer comfort than to force it out of him. he was the most stubborn man you’d ever met, after all. he began the clarisse slander after the first call with the demigods. you had been distant since then. it was easier to be around him when he was pushed up against a tree with his pretty lips doing something other than talking.
in terms of the quest, it only seemed right to keep the communication flowing smoothly between the young demigods and camp. as head counselor of the iris cabin, it was also your job to give luke access to your mother’s fountain. he took over the role of mentor, probably because of his need to protect annabeth. you didn’t believe that clarisse had stolen the master bolt: in fact, you vehemently denied it. she was one of your closest friends at camp, and you had spent more of the summer with her than any of the others. other than luke, that was.
“an accusation against clarisse-“ luke began, before being promptly interrupted.
“without proof,” annabeth injected, putting a little extra emphasis on each word.
“exactly,” he smiled at his little sister. “without proof, it would have lit this whole place on fire. but now you’re back. i want to tell chiron, but i need it to be private so that we can speak without any of clarisse’s friends noticing.”
“one is present, castellan,”you retorted, nearly hissing at him.
“i’ll keep an eye on clarisse while you’re gone. make sure she isn’t going anywhere.” annabeth gave you a knowing glance, watching your glare soften when you turned to her.
“great. And we’ll meet back here,”luke decided. he leaned over to press a chaste kiss to your cheek, completely ignoring everyone’s look of shock (including your own). then he and percy were gone, and you and annabeth were standing alone.
“reckon that cap might be of use?” you winked at her to fend off the inevitable questioning coming your way.
nestled in the trees, you listened carefully to percy and luke below you. it was hard to hear them over the whipping of the wind: a sign that the nature surrounding you had detected a strange energy. something was off. you concentrated on the space around you, waiting for the wind to quiet. and it did, softening to a lull humming until eventually it faded out. you heard the boys beneath you.
“talk about a celebration. they really pulled out all the stops for you. come on, you’ve said, like, two words since we left the cabins,”you hear luke say as they settle in the clearing. you notice a hint of disdain in his tone, likely jealousy. he’s always wanted the glory, the celebration.
“just… thinking about what the oracle said. that I’ll fail to save what matters most in the end.”
poor percy didn’t ask for any of this. he was so worried about his mom. despite being at camp since you were a toddler, you understood how important family could be. that’s why you hung on so hard when the other iris campers arrived. you couldn’t imagine losing a sibling, let alone knowing a parent well enough to lose them.
“you're thinking about your mom. i get that. believe me, i do. but prophecies? those things are so vague.“
you glanced over to where annabeth stood invisible: you knew she was forming the same conclusions you were. luke fidgeted in a more frantic way than normal, which only happened when he was nervous. luke was almost never nervous and everyone knew it. percy seemed none the wiser to his cracking facade, though.
“the quest is over, and everything the oracle said has either come true or makes sense.”
‘or it was about to,’ you thought. you weren’t surprised, or hurt, to be completely honest. you had noticed things were off since the solstice, but never felt close enough to luke to pass it off like it was reasonable to ask. he had a reasonable cause, too.
“has it?” luke questioned percy.
“you shall go west and face the god who has turned,” he says slowly, as if luke was being unreasonable for asking him to confirm.
“ares. okay.”
“find what was stolen and see it returned."
“clearly the bolt.”
"and you shall be betrayed... by one who calls you a friend!” it hits him. “well, the reason clarisse is still here is because…”
“you never said anything to chiron about her. did you?” luke begins to explain himself; percy interrupts him.
“you couldn't... because you knew clarisse didn't steal the bolt. you did.”
water began to pool in the eyes of the boy you had trusted with your body, with your heart. you doubted he really wanted to do it. he must have been forced.
“you worked with ares to plant it on me so when the shoes you gave me pulled me down into tartarus, the bolt would be delivered right to kronos.”
the shoes. he wanted to kill percy? percy, the innocent little boy you met at the beginning of the summer. after he arrived you held his hand in the infirmary so he wouldn’t have to be alone. he was only 12, and forced to go on a quest as soon as he figured out his heritage. a child, forced to traumatize himself for the sake of the “greater good”. you sent him with a handful of drachmas for your mother’s fountain, a small pack of ambrosia, a kiss on the forehead, and a remember that his safety was most important. grover got a small tube of ointment for his horns, just because you knew he scratched them. he got a hug - he technically was older than you after all. you refused to let annabeth go, pretending to cry dramatically as you slipped a small pouch into the palm of her hand. you closed her fist around it as percy pulled you away from her hug. you were beyond relieved when they returned. you had kissed luke the second you found out, thrilled that your family was safe. the two of you had never kissed for the purpose of anything but frustration or stress relief. he had seemed so happy. luke had seemed to love percy as much as you did, but maybe he loved with less of his heart.
“i didn't think you'd give 'em to grover to wear.”
the crack of his voice told you everything you needed to know.
“i am your friend. percy, none of this was meant to betray you. the gods are my enemy. you... i'm here to recruit.”
“recruit?” percy tilted his head, confused.
you flinched as luke unsheathed his sword, the metal making a noise as it hit the air. percy reached for the pen in his pocket, pushing the button. it configured itself into his sword. luke took a step back.
“easy. i don't wanna fight. this is what I wanted to show you . this... is our way out.”
“way out of what?”
“camp.” luke slices through the air and it ripples like satin, the forest peeling back for a second before returning to its original state. there sat a long, glowing neon gash.
“and their control. backbiter can open secret doors. we can stay on the run as long as it takes.” he was planning to leave you here? he had told you earlier in the summer that he would do anything to keep you safe. he had a similar look in his eyes back then.
“stop saying ‘we.’” percy chokes a little, and you knew he felt conflicted.
“it’s the word zeus fears the most. the gods want us to fight for them, worship them, fear them. and they couldn't care less what we want. they're bad parents, percy. and they've gotten away with it for far too long.”
he wasn’t wrong. you had never seen the gods care for their children at more than base need. some campers stayed in the hermes cabin permanently unclaimed. the relationship you all had with the gods was less than sufficient.
“no. this isn't you. this is kronos. he got to you.”
“no, he opened my eyes to the truth. a golden age. that's what they called it when he ruled. we're gonna help kronos bring the golden age back.” he cuts an identical length gash next to the first. “stealing the bolt and the helm was easy. for what comes next... we're gonna need all the help we can get,” he admitted.
for the first time since luke arrived at camp three years after you, you saw genuine childlike whimsy in his eyes. he was hopeful for a future of fairly treated demigods. he was incredible. he seemed to glow with the fireworks and the cuts in the air, illuminated by his newfound mission.
percy wasn’t having any of it. as luke raised his sword to connect his previous work, percy lunged to stop him. luke parried easily, turning to face the young boy. they pointed their swords at each other.
“our parents aren't perfect, but they're trying their best.”
luke lowers his arm slightly, curious.
“i met your dad.”
wrong move.
“but he…” luke dived back into the fight, celestial bronze clanging on - steel? why was luke using a weapon that could hurt mortals? for a second they stood still. luke’s sword pinned percy’s.
“you did get better,” he mentioned as riptide’s blade scraped against backbiter’s. luke started to advance more aggressively, pushing percy back against one of the trees. “last chance.”
this was starting to get a little too dangerous.
percy shoved him out of the way with his hands, using luke’s lack of balance to land a hit on his stomach. as soon as he realized his mistake, he froze.
“i’m sorry. I didn't mean to...” luke bounced up immediately, using the momentum to make a long cut on percy’s forearm. with percy on the ground, luke approaches his figure. backbiter is raised into the air, poised to swing. you hear the dagger before you see it, jumping from the tree.
“luke!” you hit the ground as annabeth whipped off her hat. the noise of the forest quieted to a lull hum as luke looked at annabeth first. when he turned to you, the tears started to roll from his deep eyes. you were already at percy’s side, pulling ambrosia from your backpack.
“annabeth? y/n?”
“we heard everything.” annabeth admits, heartbroken. years of having a friend, having a brother - gone.
you get a really good look at him in that moment. his eye bags drop lower than they ever have before, scooping up into the hollowness of his cheekbones from the times you missed him at the dining pavilion. his face was red and agitated from the tears. what a beautiful tragedy. in that moment you loved him. he needed to be loved. he was a broken, abandoned child. just like you. just like every other kid at this camp forced to give away their lives to a cause they didn’t ask to support.
“wait - luke.” percy and annabeth turned toward you with shock. you squeezed percy’s hand one more time, mouthing ‘i love you’ to the both of them before standing up and facing your fate.
“i want to go with you.”
you could only hope that annabeth would open that pouch when she needed it.

They were glowing, despite the dark brown hue that adorned his iris’. Luke’s eyes drew you in, halting the search for your sister your own eyes had been intent on finding.
The tool shed was used most often as a hotspot for parties instead of its intended use of holding tools for the strawberry fields and weapons for friendly games. The decorations of axes and spears settle a comfort in your body.
But those eyes; the way they had been fixated on you. They’d been staring at you for so long you began to feel the phantom pain of burning on your face. The muscles in your body tensed when they began to enlarge. You realize it’s because he was moving closer to you.
Sure, you were used to stares and pointed looks from other campers, it was a frequent response to your parentage. Being an Ares kid automatically meant you weren’t going to have many friends outside of your cabin. Your father’s reputation preceded you too much to not intimidate anyone.
But it didn’t seem to work on Luke Castellan. In fact, he was intimidating you. This is what he was known for; his daunting smirks and undeniable charm. It was no wonder he was the son of Hermes. But people knew better than to connect the dots to his face.
Soon enough, the tips of his worn black converse and your pointed boots were touching, as he nearly teleported in front of you. You were too lost in the clouds of your thoughts to pay attention to his stealthy path towards you.
“Luke,” you greeted, a friendly smile at-first-glance painted across your face. The fire that fueled the beating of your heart and the flow of your veins hidden behind the deep tint of your lips.
The sound of your name coming from his lips already caused a ripple of nerves to weaken in your thighs. “I saw your sister walk out with my brother a couple minutes ago.”
You shrugged, adding more product to the pre-existent lip marks on your cup as the liquid trailed a burning sensation down your throat. “Unsurprising, they can’t keep their hands off of each other for more than 15 minutes.”
A cash register ding sounded in your mind as you began daydreaming about the smooth surface of 20 bucks being smacked into the palm of your hand when Clarisse realizes you won your bet.
“You won’t be able to last 15 minutes in that shed,” you remember your remark to Clarisse a few hours before the party.
“Wanna bet?” she commenced your inevitable win. “Only if you wanna lose, Lisa,” a shit eating smirk spread across your lips as your fingers curled around the other’s palm in a handshake.
“Gods, stop calling me that!”
Luke’s laugh rumbled through his throat and touched every corner of the contained space and brought you back to the present. It made you realize how small the shed was. A chill ran down your spine.
Your eyes began to travel down the veins that bulge under the skin of his arm, disappearing behind the dark denim of his jean pockets. The other hand was clasped around the rim of his red solo cup. You realized this was the closest you all would get to regular teenagers.
“I haven’t seen you in the arena recently, finally scared of me?” Luke tested, pulling your gaze from his arm. You tilted your head at his assumption.
“I’m sorry, I’ve been too busy having a life. Why, you miss me?” The comment causes a blush to adorn both of your faces, though you believe his was much deeper— it was pretty dark.
“Just miss beating you, s’all,” his voice quieted down to an intimate volume. And from the mere distance (or lack of), you knew it was one only you and him could hear.
“Uh-huh,” you rolled your eyes playfully. The leather of your jacket sleeves rubbed against one another when you crossed them, peeling your eyes away from him to spectate the party. It was a weird combination— your cabin (Ares), the Dionysus twins (whom you could identify by their pale blonde curls), a gaggle of Aphrodite girls in the corner seducing a poor Hephaestus kid, a couple Hermes kids (including Luke) and you could’ve sworn you saw a few Athena kids rolling blunts through the window to outside.
Luke followed your gaze, the indistinct yet noisy conversations filling the air between your two. Then, he looked back at you. His attentive eyes swallowed in the sight of your dazzling vanity. He could see glitter shimmering on your eyelids and a few strands of silver tinsel blending into the texture of your hair. Your legs were bare, pressing together as the cold winter wind managed to slip between the wooden walls of the shed and torment your skin with goosebumps.
He imagined what his hands would look like gripping the skin.
Your leather jacket (covering what he wanted most to see) was black and worn at the elbows from your extensive use. He can recall every time he’s seen you wear it; the quick descent from stiff, shiny leather to its now dull and scruffed material. Luke’s eyes trailed back up to your face, but not before tracking across the supple and pure skin of your neck.
“Y’sure you aren’t a child of Aphrodite?” His voice startled your head to whip back to his, nearly knocking your noses together from how close his face had gotten to yours during your people watching.
When it registered, the compliment sent heat to your cheeks despite the feelings you had towards the cabin.
You didn’t mean to be stereotypical but they were serpents wrapped in pink bows and itchy glitter. Don’t let the compact mirrors eclipse their strategy for trapping others. Your mind flashes back to the time an Aphrodite kid legitimately caught you upside down with a rope rubbing against your ankle and the other end tied to the thin limb of a tree. Their giggles echo in your ears.
“No. I’m not,” your response is cold, causing the short conversation to fall flat. Luke raises his eyebrows at the bite in your voice, pressing his lips to the cusp of his drink to hide the amused smirk that spread across them. “I know you have a certain bond with them, though.”
Luke scoffed at the dig. Yes, he had a reputation with a few (multiple) girls at camp, but that wasn’t a big deal. You try putting a hundred kids together in a confined camp and see what happens.
“Sounds to me like someone’s jealous.”
Oh please, he was just trying to rile you up at this point. Your eyelids fell to shoot him a (hopefully) menacing side eye, only being met with a prideful grin and his wiggling eyebrows. He followed it with, “Am I right, spitfire?”
The nickname made the hairs on the back of your neck stand and the, once cold, feeling of your bare skin melt into a flustered heat. He knew just from the near-petrified look on your face that it would live on forever between you two.
“Nooo,” you drew out, scrunching your nose in spite of the boy. Tilting the red plastic, you funneled the rest of your drink into your mouth. shuffling your feet across the dusty floor of the shed to crush your plastic cup and throw it into the garbage, feeling Luke’s burning gaze melt into your frame (and how the thin fabric of the tank top underneath your jacket pinched against your tits). Luke licked his lips, seeing how the peaks of your nipples poked through the fabric.
“Uh-huh,” he mocked your attitude from earlier in the night, causing an irresistible smile to break across your face as you hit his chest in reprimand. He caught your hand in his before it could fall back to your side, pulling your bodies together. His breath fanned across your face, the tingling smell of beer (courtesy of the Stoll brothers’ sneaky escape from camp) and minty toothpaste filling your senses. You could swear your senses detected the slight aroma of cherry chapstick as well.
You admit it, you wanted to kiss him.
“You know it’s true, spitfire,” it was as if he’d read your mind, “you want me.” His voice was hypnotizing, you weren't sure if that’s what made the statement true or your honest feelings towards the boy. “And what if I do?” you pointed an eyebrow up, your eyes staggering around his face until they had nowhere else to go but his eyes– where he was already looking into yours.
He didn’t say anything else, only jerking his head towards the exit of the shed and provoking a nod from your side of your shared bubble. With Luke’s hand on the small of your back guiding you through the crowd, you realized you had been another victim of Luke Castellan’s charm.

poseidon!reader who’s appearance strongly resembles their mother but their personality is more akin to poseidon
poseidon!reader who’s lounging by the lake when luke comes by with percy, introducing the newest camper
poseidon!reader unconsciously taking percy under their wing (even more than luke does) with “just a feeling that they should do so”
poseidon!reader affectionately nicknaming their new brother “little man” (and continuing to call percy by that even if he grows taller than them)
poseidon!reader and percy bonding over telling each other about their favorite and least favorite greek myths and discussing why
poseidon!reader who seems like the cool older sibling percy always wanted but is actually a hot mess which just makes percy like his new sibling even more
poseidon!reader who percy notices becomes even more of a mess when luke is around except you have no idea what you’re even talking about little man, shut up
poseidon!reader that went with luke on that quest from hermes, which leads to
poseidon!reader telling percy to follow his heart on his quest while having the most bone chilling look on their face bc they’re thinking back on luke’s quest
poseidon!reader who has to get adjust to the feeling of an empty cabin once more after it was filled with the life that came with percy’s presence
poseidon!reader that’s conveniently hanging out with luke when annabeth uses the iris message system to contact him at camp
poseidon!reader laughing under their breath when luke makes a comment on the pair acting like “an old married couple”
poseidon!reader rushing to hug percy after he returns but only after annabeth hugged him first
poseidon!reader hiding with annabeth during the fireworks as they eavesdrop on luke explaining himself and plans to percy
poseidon!reader who can’t control their emotions after finding out one of their closest friends and the boy they love betrayed them
poseidon!reader who’s intense emotions cause an earthquake, knocking both percy and luke over as they ask if all of that was really true
poseidon!reader that’s heartbroken by this and is brought back to reality by percy’s hugging and apologizing after the fact, as though any of this was his fault
poseidon!reader offering percy a place to stay on the last day of summer, “if the need ever arises”
poseidon!reader meeting sally jackson when saying goodbye to percy and immediately understanding just why poseidon broke his oath a second time around

author’s note(s): ….i’m so proud of these but at the same time i’m so disappointed in myself for finding motivation for this (in less than 24 hours) before expanding on the hephaestus!reader idea i had. ANYWAYS! like, comment, or reblog if you enjoyed these silly self indulgent headcanons! any and all feedback is appreciated and welcomed <3

nepenthe: (n) "that which chases away sorrow".
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pre tlt-tlo. luke castellan x child of a minor god!reader. 700 words, prologue.
synopsis: time keeps slipping away. luke slips along with it. you were never important enough to care, anyway.
warnings: godly parent of the reader isn't mentioned but is specified to be a minor god. mentions of luke and reader making out, reader is said to be the eldest out of their siblings, kind of toxic situationship between luke and reader. minor book spoilers? (I haven't watched the show yet)
note: i'm writing on tumblr after almost a year and a half, this isn't that gooduprwefjod. this is just a brief intro to the possibility of a bigger series under the same reader, kinda? if it does go ahead, it will be based on the books! idk how i feel about it so far, but I'm always open to listening to feedback!
Tumblr media
At Camp Half Blood, there remain a few things you cannot learn, no matter the amount of harsh, gruesome training you’ve gone through.
For those who look for it, every day is a new lesson. For example, capture the flag: every game tells you more about your opponents and allies when you know how to look for it. With every game you start to notice how the  Area kids undermine the minor gods in cabin eleven, almost forgetting their existence. You notice yourself clubbed with children of another minor god, despite sharing nothing with them, you notice the way Luke’s expression goes blank and tenses up when he notices that.
So you ask him about it late at night, away from the campfire and chaos, bodies pressed together and hips pressed against each other. He replies by biting on your bottom lip, you retaliate by pulling his hair. The next thing you know, you’re pushed up against the wall and a little over half an hour later you walk into an empty cabin eleven with a purple bruise blossoming on your neck and lips swollen red.
A corner on the room’s floor is dedicated to your siblings and yourself. and you wonder how long Luke will keep it reserved for them—for you. You wonder, will the treatment end the moment this . . . affair between you two ends? How will you explain this to your siblings then? When you finally need to deal with the jealousy that comes with being somewhat special to a counsellor.
So you learn to adapt, to take advantage of those who undermine you, and to make allies with those who understand your strength. It’s not hard getting your siblings to listen to you, after all, you are the eldest with two quests weighing down on your conscious daily, but having that achievement means little to nothing when your godly parent isn’t an Olympian.
You sit down in the corner of the room, knees tucked in your chest and you look around. You have three siblings on your godly side, a diary hidden under Luke’s (because no one would respect your privacy, yet they wouldn’t dare breathe in Luke’s way like that) pillow containing their names, mortal addresses, mortal family’s numbers and blood types noted down.  You wonder if Camp Half Blood would have a proper funeral if any of you—not just your siblings, any of the children of the minor gods—died. Would there be a grieving period? Would someone look for you? Would they even call the families you’ve left in the mortal world or would those who care wonder what happened to you all?
No minor god is as important as Olympians and as much as no one says it, you can feel it—you all can feel it.
A child of Nike can win better than a child of Ares, no one gives them the credit of winning, though, it’s always beginner's luck. Camp survives on the magic and mist of Hecate and yet no one, *not one person* appreciates any of her children. Iris is responsible for most, if not all, of the communication at camp and yet no one includes her children in any conversation. Tyche and Hebe’s children are almost as joyful as the Apollo and Aphrodite campers, yet no one smiles or dances with them. The goddess of luck’s children have none here. Nemesis cradles her children, promising justice and vengeance, and Hypnos lulls his kids to sleep, ensuring no nightmares whilst they sleep, unable to do anything to the bullying when they’re up.
Your parent is amongst these minor gods, and whilst they do care slightly more than Olympians do for their kids, you cannot help but be angry. Anger that you know will be spent on the Hermes counsellor, pushing him till he pushes you back, till you’re both breathing heavily into each other’s mouths and till your nails scratch red lines down his back, after all, it’s what you two do to each other.
No conversation, no understanding, no labels. You two are just two teenagers angry at the world for taking their parents away. Nothing else to each other, right?

AHHH LUKE X THUMBS BY LUCY DACUS 😍
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
thumbs .
a/n : i return.
pairing : luke castellan x reader
summary : you hated hermes almost more than luke. to the point that you’d kill him.
!!! : erm i hope u like this.. i didnt proofread this im sorry pookies. 😞
• —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– •
bound to him by blood, connected by pure coincidence. luke tried to forget it, tried to find his family instead of just having one.
only a fool would deny that luke was stuck in his fathers palm despite his dad being everywhere but where he was needed most. every single thought that ran through lukes head was the way his father probably laughed without him, smiled without him and was content without him. luke knew that he had other demi-god kids and they needed hermes as much as luke had, and yes it was selfish, but gods did he want to kill his dad.
bitterness rolls off of lukes tongue as the iris message fades, a sour frown imprinted onto his features. you push the door open to the hermes cabin and you walk to stand beside luke. your hand grabs onto his arm gently and his expression softens.
“what’s wrong?”
“my dads around in long island, he wants to meet.” the last word of that sentence ends with a hard and exagerated t.
“you don’t have to go and see him luke.”
lukes eyes meet yours as you move to stand infront of him. he opens his mouth, words ache to be released but nothing releases for a moment and only an exhale escapes.
“i’m going to.” he nods, he face turns away from you to miss the way your face contorts into a slight confused and worried lour.
you two go back and fourth. your trying to convince him to leave his dad in the dark, get him back for all the years he didnt talk to him. but luke, he couldn’t. for some reason there was this feeling inside of him to go, and eventually he convinced you to go with him to a nearby diner and sit down with his dad.
-
you both, hand in hand, walk into the small retro-style café. you see hermes sat in a booth waiting for his son. rain poured outside, making the sign on the roof glow throughout the night.
you watched as luke made eye contact with his dad, the way his lip twitched into a frown, the way his eyebrows furrowed slightly and how fucking badly he wanted to stand there and shout. but he didn’t. he walked over, calm and collected to his father and he sat across from him.
it disgusted you. rage filled up into your bones and the marrow in your bones seemingly hardened at the very sight of lukes father. it was enraging the way spoke, “you look great luke”. hermés smiles.
all luke can muster up is a grunt in reply and a squeeze to your palm. 8 years he had been gone, 8 years of no sight of him, not even a 50c birthday card. pure radiosilence.
you would kill hermés if you could.
you imagined doing it, getting back at him for all the pain he caused luke. your parents wouldn’t approve and zeus would the gods smite you down. but you would still do it.
lukes nails dug into the fabric of your jeans above your knee and you tried to keep your expression neutral but you seethed. you could feel how it affected luke despite the way his lips curled into a soft smile.
anger fell from your shoulders around you and you could feel the fire crawl up your back infecting you with its fury. it infuriated you how similar they looked, the way their eyes glimmered the same way under the lights. you hated the way hermes looked like luke, or maybe how luke looked like hermes. you thought about how your thumbs would press into the irises of the gods eyes until they bursted like those pearls you get in boba.
lukes eyes softened in a sad way, his brown eyes finding the table more interesting than his father infront of him and you can tell, your heart can tell how badly he hated it. you let out an ahem sound and they both look to you, “we ought to get going, its quite late and i imagine you have much work to do.” you stand from your seat and you pull luke up with you.
“let me give you both a lift home.”
“no it’s quite alright.”
you both walk, a tad bit too quickly, out the door. luke could just feel hermes’ gaze on the back of his head like a shadow almost. your hand slips into luke’s and you lead him in the wrong direction of camp, to try and lose the god. (you can never really lose them.)
your mind couldn’t stop thinking about it, how you would tear down all of olympus for luke. how you would kill a god for him. you didn’t really understand how luke kept nodding along and smiling slightly at hermes’ words. how the gods words didn’t seep into his blood and his bones making him feel furious like they did to you.
you would kill hermes if luke let you, quick and easy. you remembered how his nails dug into your knee, how his smile never faltered. you would kill him if he let you, dig your nails into the bulbs in his eye sockets and make sure luke and his siblings are the only ones to ever wear the same ones.
“your bound to him by pure coincidence. its all relative. you don’t owe him shit even if he said you did.” you say to luke, your eyes glancing up to his face for a moment and you catch the way a tear rolls down his cheek. your hands reach towards him, cupping the sides of his face your thumbs brushing at the wet trails on his cheeks.
“you don’t owe him shit even if he said you did.”

"Date Night"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Show!Luke Castellan x iris!fem!reader
Summary: you and your boyfriend luke sneak out to have a date night.
Contains: fluff, kissing, and swearing, reader is kind of insecure as well. [established relationship]
Word Count: 1271
A/N: I have only read the first book and watched the series so far now (my damn bookstore didn't have the whole series but whatever) and i officially have a luke obsession :D (btw this isn't proof read lol)
Tumblr media
"For the last time y/n," Luke smiles. "You look lovely, would you just come out of your cabin?"
You smile shyly. "You haven't even seen me yet Luke," you say, still just sticking your head out of the door. You've always been - not super insecure - but aware of the fact that you aren't a child of Aphrodite who are all shiny hair and pretty eyes. As a child of Iris, you see the way they practically radiate light and colour, the way you don't.
Shoving down your nervousness you step out into the night self consciously tugging the short black dress you have on. Luke's face lights up when you step out, his eyes devouring you hungrily from head to toe.
"Wow... uh, wow," he stammers, stepping forward to help you down the stairs. "You look gorgeous, sunshine."
"I can say the same for you Castellan," you say, stepping into his warmth and adjusting his crooked collar. Luke was wearing black suit pants and a white button up shirt with a suit jacket over the top.
Luke pulls you flush against his side and intertwines your hands together leading you through the darkness sneaking through the camp.
"Are you sure we won't get caught?" you whisper as Luke leads you away from the cabins.
"Sunshine I used to do this all the time, I'm sure." You raise an eyebrow at him in question and Luke back tracks quickly. "Not with other girls, by myself, I used to sneak out by myself."
You chuckle and wrap an arm around Luke's waist, "I would've definitely expected at least Chiron to be looking out for us tonight.
"I fixed that problem easy," Luke smirked. "I bribed him."
"That worked?" you ask slightly impressed.
"No, it didn't, but I told him the date was tomorrow night," Luke winks and wraps his arm around your waist walking you into the night.
"As long as I don't get kidnapped, pretty boy."
~
An hour later you're both sitting in a restaurant with several bowls of food sitting in front of you both. "Well shit, do you think we ordered enough food?" you deadpan.
Luke looks at you and smirks. "I dunno, maybe we should consult the menus again."
You grin and pick up a fork sating your hunger with the bowl of pasta in front of you. Luke slowly starts to eat, keeping his eyes trained on you.
"What?" you ask when you notice his stare.
"Nothing," he smiles and continues eating.
Throughout dinner you catch Luke looking at you strangely, he brushes it off each time you ask what's wrong. Worry starts to work its way into your mind and you try your very best to brush it off.
While Luke pays the check, you feel a sudden rush of nervousness.
You picture yourself painting then - whenever you paint it brings an immense amount of comfort - and a soft wave of happiness washes over you.
Luke notices when a soft smile appears in your face and knows you're imagining yourself painting. He often catches you in situations when you've drifted into your own little world.
"What are you painting this time sunshine?" He asks, watching as you snap out of your daze.
"Oh," you blink over at Luke - he always seems to be able to tell when you've spaced out. "I was painting.... um, you," you offer suddenly shy.
Luke grins and gets out of his seat offering you his hand. "You ready to go, sunshine?" You nod and take his hand intertwining your fingers. Luke raises your joined hands and places a soft kiss on the back of your hand.
You both leave the restaurant and slip out to the street walking hand in hand, with you leaning into Luke.
"Tonight was lovely," you say, smiling softly.
"It's not over yet, sunshine," Luke whispers and leads you down the street gripping your hand a little tighter. He leads you to a small park off the street and pulls you to a stop wrapping his arms around you waist while you walk. "One last surprise."
A soft yellow light flickers around the corner. You pull away from Luke and round the corner to see a blanket on the ground and candles surrounding it.
"Luke?" you ask, fighting a smile. "What's this?"
"Your surprise," he smiles at you. And you plop down on the blanket looking up at the sky - the stars shining brightly.
Luke sits down next to you and wraps an arm around your waist pulling you closer. You turn into him and place a soft kiss on his cheek. "Tonight was perfect," you whisper and then almost inaudibly. "I love you."
Luke stills, his breathing shallow and his heart almost beating out of his chest. "What was that?" he asks softly. You've both never said that aloud before.
You smile and look into his eyes, placing a hand on his cheek. "I love you."
Luke's face melts. "I love you," he says softly, placing a kiss on the tip of your nose. "You're my sunshine. I love you so much." He presses his mouth onto yours, kissing you softly.
Your mouth responds to him instantly and you wrap your hands around his neck. Luke deepens the kiss and pulls you closer, wrapping his arms around your waist.
He groans into your mouth and his tongue slips in meeting your own. He rolls you both over so you're hovering over top of him. Your hair falling in a curtain around both of your faces.
"I love you," you repeat and Luke smiles up at you adoringly. He leans up and chases your lips until they find them, kissing you fervently, smiling against your lips.
"You're my sunshine," he smiles. "I love you. You're the sunshine on my dark days," Luke's smile grows when he sees you zone out suddenly. "You painting this?"
"Yeah, I was," you admit sheepishly.
"Does it look good?" he asks.
"Always." You blink and look down at Luke, a wave of affection hits you for the boy who didn't get mad at you when he noticed you zoned out at a time like this. You sit up and pull him up, settling down in his lap.
“I see the way you compare yourself to other girls sometimes,” he says quietly. “But you have to know. That they don’t hold a flame to you. You’re beautiful.” He sees that you’re about to protest but he kisses you before you can. “No. You’re perfect y/n. I love you for you. I love you for the splotch of paint you sometimes have in your hair, I love you for  the way you zone out and can paint an entire moment in your head. I love you for the way your face lights up when you talk about something you love. I love you and there is no changing that, sunshine.”
You look up at him and kiss his jaw. “I love you so much,” you say fiercely. “No take backs.”
You’re both quiet for a few moments.
"Why were you looking at me weird at dinner?" you ask suddenly.
"I was nervous," Luke admits, smiling slyly. "I was going to tell you I loved you tonight - but it seems like you beat me to it sunshine."
"I always win, pretty boy don't you forget that."
Luke grins and tucks his face into your neck. "I most certainly won't."
"Now that you're in love with me, it's official - you're never winning again," you smirk and run your hand up and down his arm.
"When it comes to you, sunshine, I'm forever okay with losing."
