Alright, I may get shot down completely for this but I think most of the Girl Meets World fans COMPLETELY MISUNDERSTAND the love triangle.

Now I know that sounds like an exaggeration but trust me with all the posts I've seen about it, it very much is not.

All of the people saying lucaya should've been endgame are 100% missing how the love triangle happened and even the end results, which were that Maya and Lucas didn't even like each other in that way.

The entire triangle stems from Maya's identity crisis where she loses herself and becomes more like Riley, and when she becomes like Riley she starts to experience Riley's feelings for Lucas to make sure he's good for her. And because she's becoming like Riley and also Riley saying her and Lucas are "siblings" (they are not), Lucas starts liking Maya as well.

The whole resolution to the triangle is Maya refinding herself and realizing that she never liked Lucas romantically, and Lucas realizing that he likes Riley, always has and always will, and he only liked Maya because she was Riley at the time.

And at the end of the day it doesn't even matter, because the real point was to show that no matter what they go through, Riley and Maya are still best friends and will always be best friends and will always be there for each other.

Also I feel like I should mention how Josh fits into this because that is also a thing that people get wrong. Josh isn't the bad guy in this situation, and Maya isn't wrong to like him. Three years isn't a very big age gap, especially when Maya is much more mature than her age would typically be. And Josh isn't a groomer for saying he'll wait, either. I know some people have big issues with that, but to me it's a really sweet and smart way to go about things and not any kind of evil or irredeemable action.

(For the record, I'm not anti- any of the ships here. I'm not anti-lucaya, anti-joshaya, anti-rucas, or even anti-riarkle. I don't care what you ship, I just want people to understand this story and why things ended up how they did in regards to these ships and characters)

Just saw someone say that Lucaya don't end up together because their relationship isn't PG and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. If these two were together, it would be spicier than Disney channel with its one kiss rule could allow. If it was on anywhere else they probably would have been given a real chance to explore their relationship without bringing in the Riley thing. They may not have been endgame but they at least would've explored that without the stupid Maya becoming Riley storyline that I hate more than anything

Also, I like how Maya just very clearly isn't as into Josh after the love triangle. Like, she still kinda likes him (or wants to at least), but she's not as intense about this as before. This could be her growing up but I choose to believe it's because she doesn't actually like him so isn't bothered if they end up together. Also I still find Riley's sudden support for Joshaya weird. Like, before the love triangle, she very clearly wanted Maya to get over her crush on Josh and just didn't want it to happen. But now, because it means Maya's over Lucas, she's all for it. That's another reason I think Maya did this, she's not truly over Lucas, she's doing what she always does, putting Riley before herself. But Josh is a safe way to stop people worrying or making sure she's okay with this. It's not a right now today commitment, it's a maybe someday.

I'm not tagging joshaya because I don't want ship wars and i prefer Lucaya. Also, this isn't hate towards Riley really. I don't actually have a problem with Riley for the most part, I just think she was gven some bad scripts and storylines that kinda contradicted and didn't make a whole lot of sense. She wants Maya to be happy and have hope and fight for the things she likes, to have the family and happiness she deserves, but when she does, it's suddenly a bad thing because "she's becoming Riley".

one of the weirdest things I've seen rucas shippers do is write fanfics and make riley so out of character that she's literally maya. like I just saw a fic about riley who is the 'badass rebel' of the school and seriously?? if anyone that's maya I mean you're basically writing a lucaya fic but calling it a rucas one

ive seen,, some posts that are like smh now that gmw is canceled we’re never going to see lucaya become canon but sorry honey it wouldn’t be endgame either way

i dont think people understand how much better my real irl real world off of tumblr life would be if lucaya had been endgame 

@theowldetective Oh I absolutely agree. I think that Rucas needs some time to realize that what they have is a conceptual relationship that teaches them what real love is. There are a lot of things that need to be shown before they come to that conclusion. That being said, I think Lucaya is absolutely what MJ is going for in the long run because of that. Lucaya is complex and full of subtext. He developed it at an early point, but let it go, because he knew that was the endgame for the show. He placed a perfect set-up for it, and let the characters make awful decisions in season 3 because he knew those characters had to make those decisions to grow properly. He wouldn't just make an endgame couple in season 3 to plan out a season 4 full of happy Rucas moments. He's smarter than that. He knows Riley has to overcome her insecurities, and overcoming the inevitable Lucaya attraction is a part of that. It would be a stop on the way to realizing that Farkle is who it has always been from day one (or at least I hope). Season 2 was the build up. Season 3 was the destruction. Season 4 was rebuilding. That's how I see it. Let me know if you figure differently!

first off, disney can rot in hell.

lucaya deserved better, WE ALL deserved better. the rucas shippers get everything they want in the show (e.g: the rucas date, kiss, endgame) yet we don’t because our ship wasn’t at the start of the show smh.

do y’all remember maya went up to lucas first?? and maybe, not riley?? yeah me too, because it actually. happened.

lucaya is by far the strongest ship on the show. because, they were able to let each other go because they love each other. “if you love someone, let them go.” *sips tea*

rucas, meanwhile, everything just HAPPENS for them. no real build up, or storyline. maya literally pushes them together. in ski lodge, EVERYONE HAD TO TELL LUCAS TO GO FOR RILEY SMH. because lucas wouldn’t have chosen her without the peer pressure.

riarkle is pretty strong, but the thing is after everything i don’t believe that farkle deserves riley. farkle deserves better, because riley just makes every single thing about her when it’s not. she draws attention to herself. 

like i get it sometimes she may not notice it, but sometimes it’s not an accident. smackle isn’t the greatest for farkle either, but anyways

lucaya is still alive, and please contact netflix about picking up gmw!! a news outlet said that the cast are gonna do it if it happens, but since they’re being lazy (LMAO) we have to make petitions and get gmw to netflix so that lucaya and our favorite tv show can live on !!

where? not once did they utter the words ‘’we’re breaking up’, EVERYTHING in that episode was supposed to be a goodbye of some sorts. by your dumbass logic, rilaya also stopped being friends. so did auggie and ava. and topanga with everyone else she used to know. you can mark my words if we DO happen to get a season 4, it’ll open with rucas still being together.

on another note, i still don’t need to change shit because lucaya didn’t speak to each other once---just like i said before. they’re legit never gonna happen. if they did then the writers would need to lose their jobs for being so weak and shitty. also joshaya’s a thing, maya LITERALLY accepted replacing riley with josh. there’s also smarkle so your poor little riarkle shipping heart can now rot and die just like farkle’s personality did in season 3. at least what my otps have are real. everything you ship is either dead, something disney wouldn’t dare do, or a deadass CRACKSHIP with no backup whatsoever.

i love them and i still think they could have been everything if the writers didn’t pull that “maya was riley so her crush on lucas wasn’t real” bullshit. like that was truly some bullshit that made absolutely no sense, i’m convinced michael and co pulled that out of thin air because they couldn’t think of anything else. like i’m not seeing how the hell they thought that made sense with the way they wrote rcas and lucaya. like riley had her preconceived ideas of romantic relationships that all painted lucas as a hero who was brave because of the relationship her parents have. maya is a lot more pessimistic and realistic with her ideas of romantic relationships because of her parents, and their crushes and interactions with lucas reflected that. 

for example, in secret of life when lucas gets angry and is defending zay suddenly riley doesn’t know who he is because it deviates from her perception of him, but maya is intrigued by his anger that comes from his need to protect and lowkey attracted to it (the same thing happened in rileytown). then in texas, riley says that he she believes he can ride the bull because of her hero perception but maya is worried that he’ll get hurt. i could go on with my examples and reasons why that was bullshit, but i won’t just know it was bullshit.

anyways i love the teasing nature of their relationship, the easy banter. the fact that he always had a cute little smile on his face when she was teasing him. i love the way he looked at her. i love that they genuinely cared about each others well-being (”i want maya to be happy” and her worrying about him in texas). i love that they were voted best couple despite not being an actual couple. i love that he kept her from hurting people while being amused because she’s so small.

and lastly, “it’s one minute to midnight, and i’m glad your standing here” and “why can’t i like a good guy.” still get me every single time. like they really still have me gasping for air and should’ve been endgame.

send me a ship and I’ll give you my (brutally) honest opinion on it
