I just spent like 3 ish hours trying to figure out a floor plan for the Marcovaldo household (the things that writing does to you) and I think I've got something at least. Somewhat comprehensible. Gonna be under a cut because there's a LOT because I just love yapping.
So we can start with the kitchen area, as that's what we see most of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first shot doesn't show much that's super useful, honestly, but it puts some perspective into play that I think is just helpful to look at. The next two, though, are VERY useful.
We can establish that the balcony is next to the stove area, which is adjacent to the wall with the window. I put a picture of the balcony from the outside, which faces the plaza, just to be anal tbh. So, now we can also establish that, in the beginning of the scene where they meet Massimo, the entrance Luca, Alberto, and Giulia enter into the kitchen is opposite of the plaza. And, as I noted a little, that window in the 4th image faces the sea. I've drawn out a mini kitchen floor plan (please excuse my handwriting):
Tumblr media
Made an assumption that that is Massimo's bed, and I also marked the tomato just to really drill in that the balcony was the same balcony. I don't know why I needed to put so much convincing.
So that's nice right? This is the room that I'm the most confident in out of everything. But there's a lot more to the house. I looked at Giulia's room next, since that's the only other interior room that we see in the film.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So we can establish that that window of hers faces the sea, as it leads directly to the hide-out. Opposite to the window is her door, which you can see when she turns around in the scene where she shows Luca the woderful life of Education(tm) and also in that third screenshot a little bit. Also, based on placement of the windows from outside shots, that places her room behind the kitchen (if you are facing the house from the plaza).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also note that mystery window. I have no idea what that window is, but it doesn't appear in Giulia's room and it doesn't appear in the kitchen, so it's safe to assume that there's a room between Giulia's and the kitchen. In the second image you can see it a bit more clearly, but it is also one panel wide, whereas the windows both in Giulia's room and in the kitchen are two panels. Also, in the third image (and in the very first image of this whole post) you can see there's a space cutting into the kitchen as well, which I didn't really properly point out earlier.
Floor plan #2 (note: there's no entrance to the mystery room, that's on purpose for now, just one sec):
Tumblr media
In those notes I kinda skipped ahead a bit, so let's talk about that doorway for a sec.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is absolutely some doorway there. Leading somewhere. You can argue that maybe that is a window (which, note (love saying 'note'), it would be facing a VERY close brick wall of the house neighboring the Marcovaldo's), but this makes that less plausible:
Tumblr media
When Luca and Alberto enter the house, they come in from the right side, where that doorway would be. You can argue cartoon logic of appearing impossibly out of nowhere, but this movie hasn't really played into that too much (aside from the scene when Luca sees the alarm clock, but I'd argue that the movement he did there is definitely possible and not like rabbit out of the hat type of physics). It's pretty clear that the way you get into the kitchen in the house is by entering through whatever doorway that leads off to.
Also, in the image you can see I added some text. That's to point out that, not only is there a doorway to the right of the kitchen door (from the image pov), but there's also one to the left. It's clear that there is some light being let off from the left direction that is lighting up that little hallway they're in. Also, if you were to watch the scene in real time, the door casts a shadow to the right when Giulia opens it, confirming that there's definitely some light specifically coming from the left. So, that light has a high chance of coming from that mystery window room. I'm gonna say that that's where that room lies.
Going back to the doorway thing, something that that brings a bit of dilemma about:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's like no space at all for that doorway to fit. The house pretty clearly has an external wall against where Massimo's bed is placed. My solution was that, given that we never see a perfect shot of that side of the house (**IN LUCA (2021). I HAVE TO COME BACK TO THIS IN A BIT.), there's just like,, a part that juts out.
Floor plan #3 (also now there's an entrance to ? room):
Tumblr media
I also figured that there has to be some way to get up, so I was like "okay cool steps go somewhere in here."
Boom, Floor plan #4 and also where I was like "okay this is it.":
Tumblr media
(Quickly, because I forgot I even noted it, the alley steps is in reference to where you can see some steps in an alleyway leading up towards where I figured the building would jut out. So, just for fun, not necessarily accepting that it was actually a part of the house, maybe those steps led up to a door that also reached that landing there.)
Also quickly, there is a side room on the house that I haven't brought up yet:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, I originally saw that part of the house and then figured that maybe it simply wasn't apart of the Marcovaldo house because of the way those steps went up. I figured that if there was a structure directly above them, then there would be more shadow.
However, it wasn't until I saw THIS shot from Ciao, Alberto that made me go "oh shit."
Tumblr media
Because it's legit just pushed back, but it's definitely still apart of the house. So, it makes sense that the shadow cast isn't super strong. That, and the architecture matches the house.
So, floor plan #6. I added in that little part of the house, but I still don't really know what it's for:
Tumblr media
I started going "yeah, okay, yeah, awesome, let me just watch through Ciao, Alberto to make sure there's not any other ground breaking-"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is pretty clear that there is nothing red jutting out from the side to allow room for the doorway I was talking about earlier. Remember this?
Tumblr media
That ** was future me crying and ripping apart my other floor plans. HOWEVER!! There is still a random staircase in that little alleyway which also randomly cuts off at a certain point.
My next, and final, idea is this:
Tumblr media
It's possible that that doorway they come in from is actually an external door leading into the house, and those steps lead to it. Also, in the scene right after Machiavelli attacks Luca and Alberto, the underdogs walk out of a side door leading into the backyard. It's possible that they went out that alley-door and then went back in through the pescheria's main entrance and THEN went out the side door, but they look pretty-freshly attacked aka little to no first aid and also they were leaving, so why would they go back into her house? I think there's still an internal staircase leading to that floor ALONGSIDE that external alley-door. This is also not even a rare thing, especially in houses where there's a business on the bottom and a living area on top. Even the house I grew up in actually had an external staircase alongside an internal one (granted, that's due to it being a somewhat-duplex, but still).
Also, I don't know what this area is.
Tumblr media
But I've seen a few fics where Alberto's room was in the attic and I don't know why, but that appeals to me for some reason (though he's seen in Giulia's bed in Ciao, Alberto. shhhh..). Also that may or may not have been what sparked literally all of this. The way to access that has to be through an attic ladder in the kitchen. We never see a shot of the ceiling of the kitchen, though, so unfortunately that's just up to my imagination.
Also that mystery room could totally be a staircase. In the final floor plan you can see I wrote and then erased where I thought there might be steps. I erased it because I confused the laundry outside of the kitchen window with that little window. That could totally also be a staircase instead of in the top right corner. Go nuts. Actually, I think that makes more sense than the top right, anyway. It's like 12:30AM though now and I'm pretty sure I'm keeping my roommate awake so I can't draw any more floor plans.
PLEASE feel free to discuss or dispute or point out anything you think I missed or got wrong. I made this mostly for myself because I couldn't find a render of the house and I'm extremely anal when I write fics and needed just some guidelines to follow.
(Except, please don't go "haha you're overthinking this" or "sometimes you gotta accept that they probably didn't plan out the house fully and there's some plotholes." I know. I'm just having fun)

In this post from yesterday, the OP pointed out that, in regards to whether or not Anakin should kill the Sith Lord, he will always be wrong. No matter what he chooses, to save the Sith or kill him, he’s wrong. And that’s true, and I think it’s really interesting. Why can’t Anakin make the right choice in Revenge of the Sith? Is it just because the narrative won’t let him? I mean yeah, on some level, but George Lucas was always very clear that Anakin’s Fall was about his choices, and painting it as narratively inevitable kind of ruins what GL was trying to say. In a universe where even destiny can be subverted by free will, it feels weird to say ‘because it’s a prequel’.
So why, on a Watsonian level, will Anakin always be wrong?
Because, in each scene, he’s acting out of fear, anger, and attachment. With Dooku, Anakin’s angry. This is the guy that cut his arm off, that humiliated him, that hurt Obi-Wan and kidnapped Palpatine. Anakin hates him, and he makes the kill/spare choice out of that hatred, so he kills him. If Anakin was able to let go of that anger and think rationally, he would realize that Dooku wasn’t a threat and that killing him would be wrong (which he recognizes after he releases his anger) and that Dooku is far more valuable alive. Dooku is the leader of the Separatists, so the Republic could use him to sue for peace. Dooku is a Sith, so the Jedi could interrogate him to find out the identity of the real puppet master. Dooku should live.
With Palpatine, Anakin’s scared. He’s terrified for Padmé’s life, for his unborn child, for his mentor and father figure. Anakin is attached, so he can’t live without these people. He needs his child to live, and his wife, and he needs Palpatine, who he deeply cares for, to live to save them. (From his POV, anyway. We all know Palpatine would’ve killed Padmé anyway.) So when Mace is threatening Palpatine, Anakin wants to save him. But of course Anakin is wrong to save him, because Palpatine, ironically enough, is too dangerous to be left alive. He’s killed millions, if not billions, and will kill billions more in the future. He controls the Senate and Courts, so no legal action can be taken against him, and he’s a powerful Sith minutes away from declaring himself dictator and murdering all the Jedi. If Anakin wasn’t so scared of Palpatine’s death, he could see that the responsible thing to do would be to kill Palpatine, or at least stand by and let Mace do it. Palpatine should die.
But Anakin would always choose wrong, because he’s acting out of attachment, he’s making his decision based on emotions that serve the Dark Side. Anakin doesn’t choose wrong because it’s canon that he becomes Vader and so he must choose wrong, he chooses wrong because he goes against Lucas’s thesis that attachment leads to the Dark Side.

Ya know sometimes it’s funny to me
I’m like why do I always write the boys as humans and specifically recently mermaids, why not write them as robots?
And then I look at my backlog of human bio and fish anatomy stuff and I’m like-
Yeah okay I could world-build for hours using this
And on the other hand I am completely in the dark about most programming and robotics things

Ancha is a character in Forever Gold, an IF RPG I'm developing with my wife @broncoburro.
More specifically though, Ancha is the High Sybil of the Cerostian faith. (So, she's the rough equivalent to "pope.") However, the Tri-Kingdom of Vestur is going through a bit of an Enlightenment phase, and so the job may be less eventful than you're imagining. Sure, it's still her job to channel prophecies for the crown, but the average Vesturian is less into religion than past generations. Her duties to the public are more ceremonial than anything nowadays... but that's fine by her. She did her time wrangling controversies and issuing religious edicts earlier in her career.
Tumblr media
Besides, lower demand for her religious guidance leaves her with more time to spend with Prince Oscar and Prince Lucas, whom she practically raised after the death of their mother. She cares for the two boys like her own.

× Thornweave ×
Introduction
Thornweave is an odd canadian town with many rumors surrounding it, of the fae who make home of the woods that surround it, and the demons said to lurk in the shadows. Folklore and local religion has that the town is blessed and protected by Saint Rosaire, a man blessed by Mother Gaia herself who dedicated his time and efforts to uniting the two neighboring villages that became Thornweave.
Statues raised in name of the Saint begin to crumble after decades of watching over the town. Something has been tearing at the seams of the faith that holds Thornweave together, and be it by fate or ill luck, it has fallen upon Ego, Nathan, Lucas and Fern the responsibility of tying ends long left loose.
×
Nathan is a young human witch who has recently moved into town with his partner Ego, an almost-demon fomerly human who doubles as Nathan's familiar. They now live in an old abandoned house that belonged to a distant relative, where the two of them have opened up Moonrise: Herbs & Witchcraft, where they sell potions, charms and all manner of magical services.
Lucas and Fern, on the other hand, are two trolls who were both born and raised in Thornweave. Once childhood best friends, they've fallen out of touch over the years and find themselves living their own independent lives. Lucas has been making a life for himself working as a trainee priest of Saint Rosaire, and Fern has been taking his time to figure out what he really wants to do with his life here.
×
Between demons and saints, in blood and gold their story is weaved.

Ok, lore pt. 2. Let's do this.
(Again, under cut since it'll be a LONG post)
Resonant Gems have been existing for a long time, and are known to be the only item than can effectively defeat the Sombria.
We don't know the origin of these gems, aside from the theories of it and the Sombria's connections to the Aerial Ruins, but blueprints and several gems have been passed down through generations, allowing us to continuously producing and using it.
In its base form, it's just a simple, white gemstone. However, once "resonated" with it, which involves the user interacting with the gem, it should be able to grant its user the ability to control certain aspects, or the natural elements of the world. (After the first resonation, it should be noted that the gem will change its color into something closer to its owner's eye color.)
Another peculiar thing about these gems is that, after its owner had passed, it can be inherited by another person who, under special circumstances, can continue using it. Otherwise, if no one can continue resonating with it, it would simply become just a normal gem: a souvenir, nothing more, nothing less.
As for the Illuminaires, it is a special force formed by the Luxuvius family after they took over the throne around 500 years ago to combat against the rampant number of Sombrias. There are five existing classes: strikers, tankers, supporters, rangers, and healers, which will be registered by an Illuminaire when they first became a trainee, and cannot be changed. All Illuminaires are to be assigned into teams of four to battle together.
That shall be all for the briefing about Resonant Gems and Illuminaires, I hope you have found this to be useful information.
-S.H.
...
"Say, have you heard of the Original Gem theory?"
"The one about the earlier editions of these gems are more powerful than the more recent ones? I've heard, yes."
"Yeah, that. So Ruby was been investigating the ruins earlier in the week, and... he found something."
"...?"
"Yeah. From what bit that was translated..." "... The first Resonant Gem to be created is known as the 'Aquamarine of Origin'... and it can vaporize literal armies of Sombrias in one fell swoop."
"...Huh."

sorry star wars is my new archie sonic
#long sprawling mess of a canon that retcons itself into a glorious mess of worldbuilding and cycles of growth and decay#and then funny guy saves the day !#so so funny to me that OG star wars (e4 ANH) was just a silly little derivative hero-saves-the-princess story#and then lucas reverse engineered DESTRUCTION OF A GALAXY WIDE SOCIETY BY ONE GUY PLAYING BOTH SIDES OF A WAR THAT COST MILLIONS OF LIVES#from a single line saying ‘i served with your father in the clone wars’#like a) clone wars as a phrase. without knowing what it means now. fascinating worldbuilding tidbit i wonder where they’re going with it#b) the OG movie handles the force like it’s *genuinely* a rare mysterious thing no one’s ever heard of. jedi really ARE rare wizards like#arthurian legend n shit. and since then that’s been completely changed into a once galaxy spanning religious order that adopt/rescued#children who were different and kept the peace of a galaxy for better of for worse (h. hey you think more kids had to be taken the more#palpatine + his sith rebirth grew in power bc the darkness welling made it more unsafe and harder for an untrained kid to manage -> more li#ely to lash out -> more likely to be kicked out/abandoned/mistreated unrelated anyway)#c) the OG movie presents the empire as terrifying and unstoppable and then the prequels completely recon it as a shadow of its former self#limping along in a mockery of the republic’s splendor with the remnants of their ships and armies with shittier training and shittier soldi#hm. this is not what this post was about . oops#posts from a galaxy far far away

Why to draw?
Here’s why
To do a story about a critique of us at the end of time with a deep thoughtful quote
“The world ends with “why”?”
The main character is young timid boy (13 at the start) named Basty, but mosty called themself “Decode Talker”, non-Binary with AuDHD (Autism and ADHD), having a small but powerful pistol blaster that annihilate things and a Stiletto dagger as they’re weapons (at the start, at least), with a goal of finding answers in the mage structure that is filled with corrupted robots and the undead, wearing a loose sweater, dress shirt on top of the sweater, Wristies like gloves, mid size backpack, straight pants, and Hilda styled boots
With a strong style and writing like Luca (2021) and BLAME! (1997~2003), it might be a tough pill to swallow at the end...
Called “Fall”
Are there any tips to get going with the art, story, tone, characters, politics, etc. ?

About your post about Athy's name in other languages (which I loved) it reminded me that when I started reading the manhwa I always confused the name of Athanasia with Anastasia to the point that I went to find out if they were the same and found that both they have the same meaning and that they come from Greece but I did not find any page that will confirm that it is the same but different variants. I also couldn't help but notice how Athanasia's name resembles Anastacious (which is technically the male version of Anastasia) and yes, the fact that both names have the same meaning may be why these two names sound so similar but Aeternitas also means Immortality and it doesn't look alike beyond the fact that it starts with A.
I found it interesting how Athy's name and Anas are similar and it made me wonder if at some point Claude must have had a deja vu hearing Athy's name (not only does she look like the woman he loved but also her name sounds similar to of the brother who killed lol)
I also mixed up "Athanasia" with "Anastasia" the first time I read WMMAP, but now I do the opposite. I have to remind myself all the time that no, it's not Athanasia Nikolaevna-
Funny thing about Aety's name is that it's the name of a goddess, and it doesn't really have a male form. I guess finding so many different greek names that mean immortality was hard for Plutus(?
That's an interesting thought! Athy and Ana's names are really close, so indeed I think she must have reminded Claude of his brother. There's also the fact that only the current emperor can give an immortal name to their heir, which draws an immediate parallel between them. As a side note, Diana was very daring naming Athy, as Claude himself notes, not only because of the name itself but also because Athy is a girl. His wording implied women aren't usually rulers in Obelia ("and a girl at that"). This is curious to me, since Obelia's first monarch, back when it was a kingdom and not an empire, was queen Ambrose. But I digress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Athy speculates that Claude must have some sort of complex over the immortal names. Since he wasn't the empress' son he could only take the throne by force, but "he would never be granted the name of an emperor", unlike Anastasius and Athy. And well, there's also the fact that Claude means "the one who limps", "limping" or "crippled" (from the Latin “claudus”). Which makes one wonder if Aevum hated Claude that much to name him as an insult or what. Note that this is just one of Claude's meanings, but it's explicitly the one that Plutus used, as Athy refers to this plot point in the novel. Myself and others have theorized that Plutus based Ana and Claude's characters on real Roman emperors, and emperor Claudius indeed suffered from a limp and deafness, being ostracized by his family as a child. WMMAP Claude wasn't sickly as far as we know, but the ostracized thing definitely rings a bell.
Tumblr media
Now, as far as I remember, it was never confirmed that Claude indeed felt inferior because of his name compared to Ana's (and Athy's), but I can definitely see how he could have felt like that, at least in his youth when Ana was the crown prince and Claude was treated so badly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One thing I find rather sweet is that Claude remembered the bond he used to have with Ana when he spent time with Athy. It's because Athy melted Claude's heart and gave him something dear to him again that he started to remember Ana and to question their turbulent relationship. I adore how Athy's love and kindness had that effect on him (even though it wasn't enough for Claude to not want to execute Ana but shhh he still saved his ass because Athy asked him to. Small steps, you know?).

how do werewolves work in lmd (plus anything else like that)
OK SO.
(this got very very long)
(just as a warning)
(also i’m going to tag @transmasc-wizard bc i remember you asked about this a while ago and a lot of this response comes from what i had typed up to respond to YOU lol)
(okay here we go)
there are (putting it very very basically) two main kinds of magic in the Ghost Story Universe: mortem (Death Juice) and vita (Life Juice). they draw from the same source (God Juice) (which is also the source of the apocalypse but that’s another post entirely) and are kind of different aspects of one thing, but still act as opposing forces. equals and opposites, can’t have one without the other, etc etc. the point is that even though they’re two different types of magic they share the same set of rules and operate under the same basic facts. one of the most basic being that magic is physically taxing to use. no magic comes without a cost
so this is pretty straightforward. and generally it isn’t anything too debilitating, but the more powerful the magic and the more magic used, the more damaging the physical effects become (for example: early on agnes’s chitchats with the ghosts she sees don’t really wear on her because it’s a very passive form of her power, but as the plot progresses and she actively draws on it more and more she starts to develop chronic headaches). the more active magic bullshit you do in succession —> the worse you’ll be feeling the next morning. people would usually need to rest for upwards of a few days after performing a major act of magic and the reason The Library focuses so much on endurance and repetition is to prevent that from happening. it’s to the point that some majorly powerful stuff is possible but the benefit of it is almost completely outweighed by the potential damage it would cause.
rambly worbuilding aside, this is really just a preface so it makes sense when i say: vampires and werewolves are what happen when people push their magic to far.
they’re basically the most extreme end of the spectrum for either kind of magic. vamps are a result of overusing vita (blood life stuff), and wolfs are a result of overusing mortem (spooky death stuff). this happens to people when they’re drawing on so much magic that their body literally cannot support it anymore and starts canabilizing itself in order to support the magic and prevent the person from just. coming apart at the seams. a Regular Person body is just incapable of handling that amount of power, so in turn they have to draw their sustenance from a different non-human source. the comparatively small piece-of-magic-apocalypse-juice in them mutates and co-opts the functions of their body in order to save that body from collapse. both vamps and wolves have to feed CONSTANTLY or they risk their bodies giving in and all their organs straight-up failing. it’s a slow transformation process and sort of representative of how much Whatever Caused The Apocalypse has become so deeply ingrained in every part of the new world. again: it presents differently but it’s all the same stuff in the end.
the world is full of monsters and weirdness and general spooky bullshit but vampires and werewolves especially have an ENORMOUS amount of stigma surrounding them because of the fact that most people still see regular magic users as recognizably human, and view the transformation as a transition from Human Person With Emotions Who I Should View As Such Despite This One Weird Thing to Inhuman Monster. most magical creatures aren’t seen as sentient in nature and many of them are actively dangerous to humans, so if someone pushes their abilities to far and ends up undergoing the transformation then it’s seen as a shift from being one of Us (normal people just trying to survive this crazy broken down to world) to being one of Them (unnatural monsters that came about as a result of the evil forest and apocalypse and want to destroy humanity), except that obviously the people who are turned are the same people they were before, just with an extra set of challenges and probably more bloodlust (which i can see being a bit of concern but c’mon. are u really going to let a little killer instinct get in the way of a lasting and meaningful relationship. weak).
They’re also used as an excuse when it comes to hatred of people born with magic at all. bc sure it SEEMS harmless when you kid is learning from their dead grandma or healing a little bit faster than normal, but with ONE WRONG MOVE they could become A VISCOUS BEAST or a BLOODSUCKING MONSTER and do you really want to take that risk?? wouldn’t it be better to stamp that out now before someone gets hurt??? even in places like The Library, which usually serves as a safe-haven for people born w magic, vamps and wolfs are seen as somehow Lesser. The Library toutes them as cautionary tales and failures of magic, basically a warning of what not to do to their students.
to get into the more specific abilities and effects and What Being A Vampire Or Werewolf Means i’ve made some handy little lists (ft. calliope and luca macnamara, a book 2-3 character that nobody knows about lol) (please click tumblr absolutely wrecked the quality):

Yes! Vestur has completely normal “dogs” in the same way that they have completely normal “hares”.
The Middle Kingdom is especially fond of their dogs. They have been selectively bred for a myriad of tasks, and so range wildly in appearance.
Tumblr media
Dogs were domesticated on the Vesturian peninsula from their wolf ancestors for the same reasons we did. They’re smelly and mischievous, but also are quite useful beasts and most importantly - very cute.

Lucas’ younger sister Akari has mysteriously disappeared. Police reports state that she left her house six months ago to meet up with her friends. She never met them nor did she return home. There have been no leads in this case except for one: an old and torn sheet of paper dug up in the front yard with the word Hisui written in Akari’s handwriting.
