“It’s just me!” you called into Luc’s house as you pushed through the unlocked door. “I brought food!”
“And that’s why you’re my favourite,” he said, jumping to his feet and taking the pizza boxes from you to carry them to the living room.
Setting up in front of his television was normal; pizza on the table with napkins still there from the last time you’d been over, and you wrapped up in a blanket the second you sat down. There was, predictably, hockey on the television, and it didn’t take long before you were swearing at the referees.
“Do you believe in love?” you asked abruptly, out of nowhere, your mouth still filled with pizza.
“Yes,” Luc answered slowly, turning his attention away from the television. “Why?”
“I just… sometimes I wonder if I’ve ever been in love before. All of my relationships have been… pretty shit and if that’s lovethen I’ll just be single for the rest of my life because that’s not worth it.”
Luc was looking at you carefully but before he answered he took his own bite of pizza. You tucked the blanket tighter around while you waited—Detroit scored a goal.
“Love’s on, like, a spectrum? You loved at least one of them a little, I remember how you talked about them but maybe you haven’t found The One.”
“The One,” you mocked. “I didn’t know you were a romantic, Pierre-Luc Dubois.”
He tilted his head, trying to hide the blush that came to rest high on his cheeks. You nudged his leg with your thigh to get him to look at you again and were rewarded with a sheepish smile.

“Discipline?” Nuckelaví’s brow twitches, and he raises his tea to his pout. “That’s one way of saying ‘abuse’.” Lovethen’s brows pinch far beyond their resting position.
“That’s a rich judgment from you, of all people.”
“I never denied I abuse people. That’s precisely how I can identify abuse.” From stirring, milk, and sugar, he lifts his gaze to the other’s. Lovethen is deeply offended, and expressing that offense. Nuck’s eyes roll into the back of his skull. “Oh, do spare me the blame for your repression, Love, it’s so dreadfully predictable. Your love life simply cannot afford for you to act like a walking cliché.”
