they are married in canon and are epic and amazing. they had sad canon events where bob thought helmut was dead for like 30 years or something but helmut WASN'T dead his brain was still alive and they are reunited in the game first by way of stealing an evil dictator's body and then later on they put helmut's brain in a ball as a temporary fix while they go out to find his body which has been frozen in ice. the game forces you to walk through bob's memory of saying his vows at their wedding ceremony and it's seriously some of the most romantic and heartwarming shit i've ever heard, especially "just when i thought i was turning to seed, you made me bloom again" like my god. i love them

Old men divorce!!!

They're old men who made their divorce the problem of every young person in their lives <3. 100 years ago during the Great Turf War between inklings and octarians, Craig and Octavio were the chosen ambassadors of their respective species. They got along well, but unfortunately found themselves on opposite sides of the war. During one of the battles Craig shot Octavio in the heart. The inlkings won the war and the octarians were forced underground. For years afterward both men grew bitter towards each other, and eventually Octavio attacked the new Squidbeak Splatoon (a group of secret agents recruited by Craig). Octavio lost both times and got imprisoned in a giant snow globe (and Craig calls him cute). In the latest game Octavio got over his hatred for Inklings (Craig's species) and used his flying mech to help defeat the BBEG of the game. After the final fight, Craig said something to the effect of 'that old rascal turned out to be not so bad!'.

Alright ok hear me out! These two old men have fought in wars for their races against each other and have the craziest pathetic old man homoerotic tension ever. They like, went from at least respecting each other before the war and then they were forced to fight each other and then when Cuttlefish's side won, Octavio went underground like a pathetic lil wet cat and later on he kidnapped Cuttlefish because of game related reasons and both of them still have way too much homoerotic tension!!! And then Octavio gets owned and then in the second game Octavio decides that "Hey actually, lets kidnap Cuttlefish's granddaughter" and the old man isnt even there cause hes busy being a pathetic old man in the under-underground!!! And in the third game they go fron rival/enemies to reluctantly working together to save the world from actual extinction bc some durry bitch wants to cover it in fuzzy ooze and like, both of them have so much old man ship potential and just- theyre still pining for each other even after over a 100 years man,,,,

I personally headcanon Cap'n Cuttlefish as homophobic, but I see the ship a lot and think it's funny.

They fought in the Great Turf War which was said to be over 100 years ago, Capn Cuttlefish was, well, a captain I believe (he had some sort of rank even if he wasn't a captain, like he led a battle that's singled out in the sunken scrolls of the first game). they act so divorced in the singleplayer mode like they cannot stop insulting each other specifically but octavio always comes back and like kidnaps or insults captain cuttlefish it's so. and when the great zapfish gets stolen in splatoon 3 captain cuttlefish is like "it's the octarians again i know it" like divorced behavior. also it wasn't this time and octavio gets super weird about it. maybe you should stop using children as props in your drama though.

Within the next hour, we all officially bid farewell to the Splatoon 1 Online Servers as they're shut down

Thousands of fanart, tons of streams, and so many heartfelt messages of love and fond memories of this silly little IP Nintendo took a chance on back in 2015

I owe a lot to Splatoon! I started my blog back in the day and got to connect with so many people, share my little stories, my victories, my defeats, and even the silly discourse we used to all have

I had 3000+ followers on my last blog that I got to share so much good creativity and posts and fun with, and it was a blessing and a fantastic opportunity

Thank you to those new and old who stick it out with me here! I hope to continue to share the love of the fandom that has helped bring this game to the success it has now

damn. as a splatoon veteran, seeing splat 1’s servers go down really hits me in the feels. Same with the 3DS pokemon games, I have so many memories wonder trading and getting obviously hacked shinies on late summer nights… and also my 6 meloettas that I could probably transfer if I felt like it

Splatoon 1 is a really special game to me. I initially wasn’t interested in it, but I got super hooked on it when I watched zackscottgames’s series of it. I got it in late 2015 and I loved it. Never shut up about it to anyone I met LOL, guess that’s why I was bullied so much throughout middle school (kidding, kidding)

I’m super glad I grew up with this series though. I don’t think my music nor my art would be the same if I never got to experience the life of it and its sequels. Couldn’t experience the shutdown for myself since I sold my Wii U a long time ago, but I still felt the need to write this I’m horrible at conclusi

It also means that he's really fast in swim form, to the point that he could probably outswim someone who'd filled all the slots on a piece of gear with Swim Speed Up without any Swim Speed Up investment of his own. (this is inspired by Lucky, another, very different version of Agent 4 made by EikaPrime on Ao3)

Yes she just goes by Eight. She was a little self-conscious about it at first but then she found out about SMG4 and the other SM64 Blooper Youtubers and no longer gives a shit

If she remembers her old name yet she's not mentioned it

Obviously doesn't remember her parents, but given the Domes are the kind of place where you can Start Training to Become an Advanced Military Hardware Engineer and Elite Soldier at Fucking Nine Years Old, I imagine she wouldn't have many memories of them even without the Amnesia

Contrary to popular fanon, my version of Eight doesn't have a scar from the Test Failed Bomb. This is because Respawn Pads (as long as they're fully functional) completely erase whatever the fatal injury was, leaving no trace apart from maybe some phantom pains if it was particularly nasty

She does, however, have plenty of scars from all the other shit she went through in that hellhole

Managed to complete every single test before she escaped

My version of Eight is a single year younger than Marina canonically is when they meet so I'm not going the Off the Hook Adoption route for this one (maybe in another AU with a more lose interpretation of Canon, but given this AU is specifically meant to adhere to Splatoon Canon as much as possible we're out'a luck this time), though she does still become very close friends with them

She's got Craig literally right there for any potential adoption attempts anyway

Paige dragged her home to their apartment almost immediately after the final battle against Mr. Grizz and she never left. It's not an official adoption but that's only because Paige is a bit oblivious to their own feelings on the matter and Andi doesn't know that paperwork is supposed to be involved

Almost exclusively calls Paige "Cap" even when they're out of uniform. I mean, she can't very well call them "Mom" or "Dad" since they're nonbinary, now can she? Paige has no idea that's what she means by it and just thinks it's a nickname because Andi gives everybody nicknames. Usually as insults

It took her 333 tries to get through "Splitting Crosshairs" (I legitimately Cannot beat that stupid kettle no matter how hard I try and want her to share my frustration but also want all four agents to have 100%ed their respective adventures so I'm just having it take her a comically long time to do)

Mains Explosher because it's the closest she can get to a Turf-Legal grenade launcher (for now...)

The Eternal Hunger, Devourer of the Bear

Actually gets its own uniform after everything's said and done. It consists of a little high-rez safety vest (like the one on Paige's field uniform), an earpiece (suction-cupped in place since it doesn't have external ears) in the same style as Andi's headset, and a clean black-with-thin-yellow-racing-stripes-on-the-sides pants...wrap...thing

It also got a new switchblade from Sheldon (the old one got lost in the space battle after it turned into Hugefry) with the same kind of black-with-blue-LEDs aesthetic as Paige's gear and a blade made of Sardinium

Also thinks that it and Andi are already adopted by Paige but that's for Salmonid Culture Reasons instead of Not Having an Education Reasons

Got separated from its swarm during a Run a few months before Return of the Mammalians. It wasn't too fussed about it and figured it could handle itself in the desert for a while and then either reunite with that swarm if it ran into them or join a new one if it happened to come across one. Because Salmonid Culture

Have I ever told you why my username is Inkabelledesigns?

Back in 2015, when I first made this blog, I was enamored with user Tamarinfrog's Splatoon comics. I wanted to make my own someday, but that never ended up happening. If I had, they would've been about Inkabelle, an inkling who was finding her way in the great big world of Inkopolis, and may have been hiding an Octoling in her house named Damien. She had two older sisters that were tattoo artists, and she wanted to get into that business someday too.

I've kept the username because I'm a sentimental sap, and now most of all, I am feeling extremely sappy. As of last night, Splatoon 1's servers are officially down, along with the rest of the Wii U and 3DS' online capabilities. This game has been playable for nearly a decade at this point, which is more than I can say for most shooters. I've been here since the first test fire, if there is any game that grew with me, it's this series. I have so many fond memories of staying up late with my sister to play Splatfests, and how we'd round robin through it until we both reached Queen rank. I've loved every entry in this series, and even though the playerbase in 3 has been frustrating recently? I'm still in love. My brother and I played until the very end. I hadn't played Splatoon itself in a while since I've been enjoying other versions recently, but it was nice to go back and say hello. I hope everyone who was there with me had a good time.

Despite using my Amiibo cards to have different character load outs, I never made my original squid in 3. So last night, I amended that. The original servers may be gone, but Inkabelle is still here. I'll have to grab some photos with her, Fritz, and Dollface (my squid and octo for 2 and 3). It's funny, I have new traditions now, like taking a photo in front of Deep Cut each Splatfest. I wonder if I'll add in the other two now that I have the DLC. Just...feeling really nostalgic. Thanks for being here Splatoon, I'm glad I got to experience you.

damn this is kinda sad and nostalgic to see all that splatoon 1 love going on… tbh dunno if i even got the energy to draw anything to celebrate it sadly OTL

all i can do this time is share one of my most precious Splatoon 1 memories:

The most vivid one, in one of my first few Ranked Battles in Rainmaker, I remember at literally the last 5 seconds, making my team win.

I somehow slipped through all 4 teammates, walked desperately in their ink, super slowly and agony, then shot one last little tiny blast and making it on the platform. I couldn't see anyone, but I could feel the "OHMYGOD?! DID WE JUST WIN?!"

AND YESSSS I MADE OUR TEAM WIN BY A SECONDDDDD ohhh my heart was pounding, the other team held us back for the whole 5 minute… it was so much fun

I still remember and will always cherish this Splatoon memory haha there were no recording at the time so its just forever going to be in my heart… I was at my old and first apartment with (at the time) my boyfriend, I was just starting second year of animation school and undertle and rvb and life I strange were my favorites… it feels like another life time away haha

there's so many more, but idk, this one rly stuck to me because it was my first victory ever at the last second in those conditions haha

I miss those times but i,m also so glad to ahve come a long way since T0T

Goodbye Splatoon 1

Splatoon 1 shutting down was completely unknown to me until just this morning. I had thought they'd already shuttered their online offerings for the Wii U some time ago. But now our officially licensed observation of Splatoon 1 has ended.

I'd like to think I changed a lot between when I first saw this screen and now. Around 10 years ago I was one of the many children and tweens waking up at ungodly hours of the night to play a demo for the soon-to-be fifth Wii U game in existence.

Back then I was a bright eyed, bushy tailed, and hopelessly enthralled Nintendo kid. I even dawned the fabled green triforce shirt and khaki short combo of legend, a platonic ideal of a dweeb. Although most of my memories are fuzzy of this period of my life, I still remember vividly how much the build-up to this game consumed my young life. I do have to thank it for a lot though. It was through this game that I made a lot of connections in childhood that helped me survive socially, even some of my earliest interactions with queer people my age. I definitely won't say Splatoon made me trans faster, but it was a lightning rod for kids that would become queer or already were. The temporal progression of the Splatoon world through the subsequent games makes the first one almost feel like a time capsule. Character and narrative events that would go on to foundationally shape the series are simply not present in the Inkopolis square of 2024 as they weren't in 2015. Seeing the last gameplay streams of Splatoon 1 uploaded today almost felt like peering back into a crystalized memory from my youth. It was like seeing squid-kids forever trapped in a time before the mammalians, the squid sister's breakup, the super retooling, or the abolition of gender and France in Splatoon 3.

While I opened this post with saying that we're ending our public observation of Splatoon 1, I almost feel like it's a game that's peering out at us. What did Splatoon observe in me from my intensely repressive, churchy childhood into being a weird, freaky, cool queer woman in my 20s?

It's bizarre to see your childhood console have this prolonged lifespan and belated death long after you've already moved on. Kind of like seeing a star in the sky long after it's already dead. Today the lights shone out on something that's been ambiently in the background of my life since 2015. But since then many more lights have entered my life, all shining so bright I hardly even noticed. In case you were wondering, I did outgrow a lot of the repressive stuff. I love boobs now.

1. How many different sketches do you usually have until your piece is finished?

If it’s a commission (that doesn’t require drawing the exact reference), I have 4 stages of sketching:

Stage 1. Ideas sketching. I do stickmans and general shapes that are most understandable to me. Doesn’t have to be clean, just enough for me to understand how I will place my elements in the paper, how movement flows, how the posture will look, etc etc. Here are some of my stage 1 sketches:

This one’s for a collab painting I will do with a friend. That’s our sketches while conceptualizing.

These are my concept sketches for the recent splatoon commission I did. For commissions, I always do 3-6 sketches of different poses when given freedom, which I will then present to my client and see which one they like best and I’ll go with it (bc I’m indecisive too LMAO)

Stage 2: Presentable concept sketch. When I have these ideas pinned down, I’ll make a more presentable version of the sketch to send to the client. That means visible body shape & posture, key facial expressions, mvt indications, etc. Following the splatoon commission sketches, here’s their stage 2:

Stage 3: Initial sketch on paper. When the client chose which posing is best, I’ll sketch it down on paper. I use rule of thirds, mark the margins, make sure the proportions are aligned and correct before I do the last stage (bc it’s going to be tedious to readjust everything once I’ve noticed it’s not centered or smth like that). I forgot to take a picture of the other posing’s stage 3, but it’s like this!

Stage 4: Lineart sketching. DO NOT jump straight to hard lineart, it will leave marks or stains when you erase. Sketch lightly first with an HB or 2B or any B pencils, honestly it’s in your hand’s pressure control and how you hold the pencil, but personally HB or 2B is good. This stage can be messy as long as the main lineart is shaping.

After that, I can start 1st stage of lineart! But this is all when I do commissions or serious pieces tho. If I’m sketching for fun, I just do 1 sketch then straight to lineart ^^

2. A piece from this year that you’re really proud of?

Honestly, I’m still proud of my concept art projects for my 2D and 3D animation subjects! When I look at it, it makes me feel like a professional concept artist☺️ It’s a warm feeling seeing my old OCs drawn like they’re posted in artstation or something hahah.

3. Something you would like to improve on?

I would like to improve on a lot of things, but getting started & staying consistent is mostly my obstacle when I want to improve. I want to learn how to draw:

Hair and different types of it. Hair is the thing I hate looking at in my drawings bc I can’t get it to look how I want it to.

Backgrounds - landscapes, cityscapes, seascape, etc (and how to be patient drawing it bc I always give up halfway LMAO)

Reflective surfaces

Different textures (fuzzy texture, chrome, rough, etc)

Bokeh & blurs (traditionally, on paper)

Shadows of two or more light sources crossing together.

Plants and flowers. Always so embarrassing to draw a piece with flora in it bc they look so elementary level LMAO I absolutely love flowers, but god have you seen my “Unbosom” artwork, I was NOT proud of how I drew petunias ;w;

Animals. I will not be showing my pathetic attempts in sketching a horse from memory, but you can imagine how horrible it was for me to want to improve on drawing animals.

Musical instruments. Still a struggle, especially when instruments are drawn from a different angle like that one time I did the Issei Noro digital fanart.

Fire and water.

4. What’s something you hope people notice when looking at your art?

I hope people notice the composition! I’m trying to be mindful of space, visual weight, and shapes of the movement or the posing, they contribute a lot to how to make a drawing less static or empty looking. But honestly, if the viewers didn’t notice, that’s fine ^^

Rose's Media of 2023 Round-up

Well, now this is truly going to be a Rose Rambles post

I am truly awful about remembering what I watched/read. Maybe I'll be better about that in 2024. Maybe not!

Noting that these are not necessarily all things that released in 2023 (but many are); they're just what I discovered at the time.

Favorite book: The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa I bought this book in May 2022 from the Powell's bookstore in Portland while I was there on vacation. I'm very slow getting around to books due to my TBR being so long (and I go through it slowly because my day job is book editing). I was motivated to read it when some Splatoon friends started a Discord book club, and this was our first pick. It's dreamlike and strange. Some might find the vagueness on the rules of what's going on unsatisfying, but I didn't go into the book trying to figure out exactly how their world worked. It's much more about the experience and quiet horror of forgetting things and people. I had just gotten a diagnosis for ADHD shortly before starting this novel and was already in a headspace of reconciling just how poor my memory can be (slightly different, as ADHD most impacts working memory, but still). Definitely recommended, but go in knowing that it's slow and thoughtful rather than heavily plotted. Runner-up: Lore Olympus

Favorite live-action movie: Tár This is a tough one. I really, really enjoyed both Barbie and Oppenheimer, but I have critiques of both. However, Tár (which came out in 2022) just really floored me with how intense it was and how anxious it made me (in a good way!). Runner-up: Talk to Me

Favorite live-action show: The Fall of the House of Usher Not one of Mike Flanagan's best, but still very good! I don't think I can say anything about it that others haven't said already, but it's beautiful, haunting, tragic, and very well-acted. Runner-up: Andor season 1

Favorite TV anime: Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Suletta Sundays were THE BEST! I really wish this had some tweaks, maybe a part 2 fleshing out some other things (as a lot of worldbuilding started to feel rushed), but I was a big fan of all the references to Shakespeare's The Tempest and Revolutionary Girl Utena, and even sooome similarities to Evangelion (some, not many). Guel became my favorite character for much of the show, but I also love Suletta not only for being our first female Gundam protagonist, not only for being our first queer woman of color Gundam protagonist, but because I really enjoy stories about replicas/clones of redheaded characters. (This is funny because I'm replaying Tales of the Abyss right now.) 2023 wasn't one of the strongest years for anime, though. As much as I loved Witch from Mercury, it's got some weak points. Nothing really hit the same high point of the end of the first part. Runner-up: PLUTO

Favorite animated movie: The Boy and the Heron This is not my favorite Miyazaki movie by far, but it is one of the ones to feel like a very targeted attack on my post-college life! It's weird, the pacing is a little wonky, but I love its ideas and themes so, so much. I still need to see this in the English dub (I've heard wonderful things), but the original Japanese cast is fantastic. This is a very sad movie that does not seek to manipulate a viewer's heart. You know how a lot of movies know how to cue tears with swells of music? I'm not even knocking that for being manipulative--I like it! But I was so impressed with how deeply The Boy and the Heron (aka "How Do You Live?" as the English translation of the Japanese title goes) affected me without any tricks--just heartfelt moments that might have meant nothing to others. (The bread scene made me choke back tears in the theater.) This movie is about grief, but it's also about creative legacies. It's hard to watch this and not think about how there's really no one to follow in Hayao Miyazaki's footsteps at Studio Ghibli. His potential predecessors have either died or seemed uninterested (in the case of his son, who seems content not to pick up the mantle). Runner-up: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (reeeeally only because of its cliffhanger ending... It doesn't feel like a finished story.) Honorable mention: Suzume (I gotta at least mention it, because it's my favorite piece of media about dead places).

Favorite video game that is NOT SPLATOON: Tears of the Kingdom I actually had a very fun time piecing together story beats and exploring, but I still stand by it not being one of the stronger Zelda games imo. I know some people still have not played, so I'm being vague on purpose, but I actually greatly enjoyed Zelda's presence in this game compared to Breath of the Wild.

ALRIGHTY SO IM GONNA TALK ABT THE SPLOON DLC, beware my toughts are very scrambled but i got so many of em and they are driving me banananuts!! I will b pressenting my theorys from most normal to most crazy so yep

1. Corruption/ contamination theory

Okay so we see a lot of white coral in the order, and the splatoon 2 hub completely bleached and destroyed, the thing abt white coral or coral bleaching is that happens because of contamination, in this theory i will explain what i think happened to the splatoon 2 hub, so thanks to this image we can see some kind of black oil/ink stuff

This theory is that somehow contamination reached that whole area and its affecting structures and living things like the inklings and octolings and salmonoids

Maybe the area has been closed or evacuated?? That's why there's no one there and somehow 8 (i don't actually know if its 8 but im assuming that's them) ended up here again with no memory of what happened, also i don't think is too far fetched that is contamination due to the inkling nuclear weapons and such idk

2. memory theory

So in this theory i think we are going to explore 8's brain as they struggle with amnessia, maybe due to a new wound or maybe side effects of the first one they got at the start of octo expansion maybe we are seeing stuff from even before the octo expansion, there's also a lot of motifs of death, seen with the bleached corals and the nuclear structure, the dead salmonoid and heavenly like imagery?? (Maybe that's a stretch) with the elevator that seems to also be leaking the black goop, maybe it conects to the contamination theory maybe the inklings and their nuclear weaponery caused a lot of contamination in a place in witch octolings used to live, and 8 used to live there and now we are seeng their memories or atleast their brain's interpretation of something bad that happened to em

Maybe as we go their memories get more and more unclear and abstract due to being hard for em to remember

3. Elysium/purgatory

Okay this one is the crazyest one and insanest one because im a crazy person aa

Okay so 8 is very much a hero when heroes die in greek mythology they go to elysium okay okay you see where im going okay so 8 dies or somehow ended up in some kind of purgatory and now has to get out of there and i don't have much else 4 this one

Yes! I think it is nice to acknowledge that people took the time+effort to leave a comment, and sometimes it can start really fun and interesting conversations. I write niche fics for a small fandom primarily, so I don't get enough comments for it to be overwhelming, and thus every comment feels even more special. Plus I have some really lovely and generous regular commenters!

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh god. This is an impossible question to answer? I write a lot of angst. Maybe sadness hides in your smile, my post B1 AU where Bayonetta never regains any of her memories. Or night, I stand, the pre B1 AU where Cereza dies in the witch hunts and Jeanne goes mad with grief forcing Rosa to put her down like a mad dog. LOL.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

AHHHHHH. I don't know! The two most recent fics that have happy endings are christmas wrapping and my hair no longer bounds to my foot’s glee, nor plant I it from rose or myrtle tree.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Nah, not usually. I have gotten a few weird/mean spirited comments in the past, which I respond to and politely tell the person to fuck off and not leave comments like that (lolsies) and then delete. The pro of writing niche fics in a small fandom is I get very little interaction to start, so it is generally positive!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

HA. Yes. I have no idea what "what kind" means though. The sexy kind? Hopefully?

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I've never written one, no. I find them hard to pull off and they rarely interest me.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of! I don't know why anyone would steal weird angst AU lesbian nonsense but hey. To each their own. (Please don't steal my fics)

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I can recall, but I could be wrong. I think it would be cool if people wanted to though!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Just one, a smut fic with dubhgloinne. I would like to co-write more but I find it scary (and I worry I would be bad at collaborating).

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

Bayonetta/Jeanne. Perhaps a bit obvious.

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

THIS IS A MEAN QUESTION. I WILL FINISH ALL MY WIPS. I BELIEVE IN ALL MY FELLOW WRITERS, WHO WILL ALSO FINISH ALL OF THEIR WIPS.

(Post Bayo 3 AU where Jeanne and Viola survive together. It is a long fic idea that could take over a year to properly pull off. The planning draft is gathering dust as we speak.)

16. What are your writing strengths?

Characterization! Evocative emotion!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Everything else!

Kidding. Mostly. I struggle a lot with description, especially around setting.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I think if you do not speak that second language then you should consult someone who does, with a few rare exceptions. It often comes off as clunky when you don't, and in some cases can be incredibly demeaning and disrespectful if you lean hard into stereotypes or limited cultural knowledge. I really admire people who can write in multiple languages!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I don't remember. Maybe Bleach? A YoruSoi fic? I was 12 and none of those fics exist anymore. Alas.

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

IMPOSSIBLE QUESTION! But my favorite in terms of recent fics is easily severed, my Elden Ring Ranni focused fic, set before the events of the game.

Tagged by @e-louise-bates, who tagged only me (and no, I don't believe I've done this one, recently at least), so I'm assuming the "9 People" in the title isn't NECESSARILY how many people I have to tag.

last song: All I've been hearing for the past two hours is the background music to Splatoon, which my son is playing on the big tv in this room. Last song I actually listened to? I think it was Led Zeppelin. Yeah, when I turned my car off I left auxiliary on for a bit, as one does, and it was some Zeppelin-- "Whole Lotta Love," that was it.

last movie: Honestly, I am not sure when I last watched a movie? Possibly not since Arsenic and Old Lace at New Years. I just don't get around to it! Also, Splatoon is always running on the big tv.

currently watching: Okay, I almost thought of this as a movie, but I have been watching a TV show the past week or so! Muppets Mayhem, which is only 10 half-hour episodes long but I've still only watched 7, that's how much I'm not watching ANYTHING lately. Okay, I am unable to tell if it is objectively good to the average person-- I think it's mixed, some very good stuff, some eh-- because it is basically a made-for-me show (it got shuttled to the top of my watch list when a friend-- an online friend I've never met in real life even-- specifically tagged me on Facebook after she watched it because she thought of me the whole time). I have said, for the record, that The Electric Mayhem is my favorite fictional band. They genuinely do rock. And the music (and the music nerd references) is the highlight of the show. And the Get Back-themed episode was indeed an absolute delight.

currently reading: Kids and I are towards the middle of the end of The Sun and the Star, Mark Oshiro's Riordanverse book about Nico and Will in the Underworld, which isn't quite as delightful as Riordan's originals in voice, but still has some good stuff in it. I've also brought home Nowhere Boy by Katherine Marsh, which I am considering sampling for the older group at Summer Quest this week. Hence bringing it home to actually read those chapters before reading it to them. I also left off in the middle of a multichapter fanfic last night, something Umbrella Academy of course because I'm still only in the S's in my alphabetical by author browse-through. It's "the desperation murmur of a heartbeat" by slytherincosette-- good enough for me to keep reading beyond the first chapter (or even the first paragraph) at least. Haven't finished it yet.

last thing researched for writing purposes: Huh. Well, that depends on your definition of all those words, I suppose. I think, using the broadest definitions, the last thing I researched for my writing was synonyms for "flawless"-- I was looking for the word "foolproof" but couldn't think of it, so I put "flawless" in Thesaurus.com and browsed until I spotted it. Yay, thesaurus! And for this particular fic I also have looked up the transcripts to The Wizard of Oz (which is the AU) and various episodes of Legion (which it is a fanfic of), if THAT counts as research. I am looking at my google search history now but I don't think any of this was used for writing. A few minutes ago I looked up how many inches are 143 centimeters which I THINK was for some ART that @sunnymarbles was drawing, but that's drawing, not writing, and also not mine. I have researched various snack recipes from around the world so as to write up some handouts for Summer Quest, which was technically writing, and mine. Honestly the only research session for fictional-not-educational writing purposes that really stands out in my memory was the day (2 1/2 years ago) I spent researching electric guitars just so I could say what Marty McFly's dream guitar would have been in 1980, for one sentence in a less-than-900-word fanfic. But I learned a lot of interesting things about electric guitars, so there.

Who the heck should I tag. How did you get into toku?

OH THIS IS A FUNNY STORY. so some friends and i play splatoon every weekend and at this point the group was me, my friend laura, and my mortal enemy kelly. back in june my beloathed makes an offhand comment during a match like "oh, i started watching this show called Zenkaiger, and i don't know how to say this... but one of the characters? i can only call him my meow meow." (this was in reference to stacey) so of course i had to jump on bullying him for that. but then we kept talking about it. we had all read a persona 5 fic that's about the in universe sentai series Featherman and i have read many many series (the oldest and most notable being conan) where they've parodied kamen rider so like, i'm familiarish with the concept, and i joke like "yeah you know if i were to start one of those series i'd probably have to go with kamen rider because i gotta complete the conan cinematic universe" or whatever

forgot that in fact i don't make jokes and proceeded to start OOO after the call that night after picking it off of a list for the sole and explicit reason that I Like Adventure Time And That's The Name Of The World There and never looked back x

11. Favorite henshin gimmick?

LOVE the gaia memories. every time i read the word joker now i hear it in my head in the belt voice. really makes the fic i mentioned in the previous answer a trip and a half
