No it's not live, he recorded it 3-4 weeks ago I think. Early Sept or late August 2022. It was supposed to have aired last week but got postponed bc of the Queen's death.

He was at the BBC studio for it. I don't know of a full link. I found this clip where you can see him in the studio. Maybe @dailytomlinson or @hldailyupdate, or search on youtube!

This channel usually uploads Louis' interviews, so they've been a good source, but they don't have the full version either. But they have the listening parties :)

louis and claudia decided to kill lestat on september 3rd 1939. the first interview took place 34 years... and one day later, on september 4th, 1973. if we imagine the meeting at the bar was before midnight and the interview started after midnight, and that daniel is an "actually it's already the 4th" kind of person and used the precise date, perhaps the bar meeting was on the 3rd and louis was in fact reminiscing about doing a terrible thing on the 34th anniversary of the day he decided to do it? these scenes are almost back to back in the same episode after all.

For Taylor's appearance at TIFF, I was hedging bets as to whether she would show up in the business babe-adjacent attire that she has favoured when attending promotional events where she wants to underscore her title as director on the project ... or leaning into the glam showgirl aesthetic that tentatively appears to be the defining factor of the upcoming Midnights era.

In making her appearance at TIFF in this very glam sequinned custom LV gown: I think we have our answer.

I love how the gold paillettes are very reminiscent and recognizable within Taylor's style repertoire. The girl has yet to meet a sequin she doesn't love. But the very elegant way the skirt falls (perfectly hemmed btw to just kiss the floor - so well done) combined with the draping chain details makes this feel like a classed up extension of her MTV VMA appearance that had very similar shoulder details. It's also a very nice slideshow moment where we now have a Midnights-esque appearance in: Silver, a colour, and now gold.

The RED hair (those bangs! the sleek blowout!) gave me temporary whiplash wondering if this was an appearance from 2012 I had somehow missed also feels like a very prescient tie-in to the fact that the project she is promoting is for that very same re-recorded album.

All in all - well done. She looks great, she looks classy, she looks glam and it somehow hits the mark for both of the albums she's promoting (RED TV and Midnights). And that is not easy to do!

I’m so proud of Louis nailing the BTM performance. It’s a hard song to sing and it shows how much confidence he has in his voice that he can just saunter onto that stage and belt it out.

He really did completely nail it.

If you listen closely to the video that the Late Late Show uploaded to YouTube, you’ll notice that this performance had a different, more acoustic instrumental arrangement compared to the studio recording.

Notice that Louis starts the song acapella. There is no pitch cue (or maybe he has one in the in-ear). This is notoriously hard unless one has perfect pitch.

In this live performance, there is not much “synth” distortion to his voice, and very little mic reverb. That means we hear every pitch break, every vibrato, every inhalation with crystal clarity. And he hit the notes right on— especially the low notes where he has had difficulty in the past.

You also hear that his voice sounds different between the verses / bridge and the chorus.

We think of singing as coming from the throat muscles (and Louis’ are beautiful), but Louis is using his abdominal and chest muscles to control the power in his voice.

The bridge has longer, softer, more sustained phrases where Louis isn’t taking breaths in between, so there’s a driving, pulsating energy in his voice that’s different from what came before and what comes after. You can hear the soft, hushed quality of the voice that’s kept lower in the throat (“throaty,” when compared to the belted notes of the chorus that are brought forward and up into the nose and palate). This is intentionally done to create contrast and drama (you know our drama queen!).

A charming detail: watch Louis’ right thumb beating to keep time (e.g. 2:26) 🙂

So now we have had two live performances where Louis smashed both of them like it’s a walk in the park. I hope he won’t feel the same performance jitters again, and know that he is a certified rock star.

[A side note about the instrumental arrangement which I assume Steve Durham did. I think this song must be really fun for the band to perform. The bass, drums, keyboard, guitars, and strings all have fun parts to play; it’s very upbeat and dynamic. Michael, Zak, and Matt sing beautiful harmonizing vocals. The graphic design/ lights on the small LLS stage also try their best to mimic the “shooting stars/ fireworks” graphics on the San Siro stage, which in turn reference the fireworks / shooting sparks of the Bigger Than Me music video, which — perhaps — are meant as a commentary on the fire from the Walls music video and the burning romance of Only the Brave. More on this later!)

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 8th 2022, King Charles III addressed the Nation and revealed that The then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would get the titles of The Prince and Princess of Wales.

Consequently, their children are known now as Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales -September 9th 2022.
