Warden Palina - Master Sorceress of the Pearl Clan - Warden to the Noble Familiar, Lord Arcanine
Master of magics related to fire and heat. Teaches Akari a spell that helps to repel fire/make her fireproof. Comes in handy while helping Lord Arcanine in his frenzy.

Where were the other nobles during Akari’s battle with Volo.
@pokedokiecentral made this point with Lady Sneasler- but the other Nobles LOVE Akari. Half of them decided on SIGHT that she was worthy of not only their aid but the Arceus plates they were assigned to protect. The other half she freed from an incredibly painful frenzied state so they at the very least appreciate her actions enough to check in on the kid every once in a while.
We know their wardens couldn’t/wouldn’t help Akari during the whole “world is ending and the sky is being torn asunder” thing but that didn’t stop them from helping her (seeing as she could still call on them for help.

I feel like Lord Arcanine would feel really bad for hurting/endangering Akari/Rei while he was in a frenzy.
He’s just a big sweet boy.

Noble Pokemon Rites and Trials HC(UPDATED!)
So I decided go ahead and post my ideas for the Rites and Trials I think every Noble heir has to complete in order to evolve and take on the mantle of Noble after their predecessor dies(in most cases). The only one mentioned and seen in game is Growlithe’s, and if you’ve read chapter 3 of my Ghosts fic it mentions Basculegion’s. I just wanted to get my ideas on paper, both for me and @kettouryuujin who is writing a Pokerus Noblity AU based off of my idea.
EDIT: I finally figured something out for Lord Electrode! There are 5 Trials and 5 Rites, and the name of each one has been given. Also added some changes made by @kettouryuujin that I liked.XD
Lord Wyrdeer- Known as the Trial of the Hills, with their Warden’s help the young Stantler must traverse all corners of Hisui, starting in the Obsidian Fieldlands and eventually returning to ascend to the peak of Deertrack Heights. The Stantler must then use Psyshield bash to destroy a tower of stone erected at the peak in order to evolve, and afterwards the Lord and his Warden must erect a new stone tower for the next Lord. This Trial is meant to prepare them for their duty as Lord of carrying the people of Hisui wherever they need to go.
Lord Kleavor- Known as the Trial of the Woods, Scyther’s Warden makes an amulet from the stone of the axe of the previous Lord Kleavor and places it around the heir’s neck. The Scyther must then ascend the Grandtree and slice off the topmost portion of the tree. (I thought of this because I heard somewhere the the tops of old trees are sometimes blown off, making them shorter)
Lord Ursaluna- Known as the Rite of the Moon, the Warden takes the Lord’s heir, who MUST have evolved into an Ursaring by then, to the Sludge Mound on the night of a full moon. Placed at the center of the Mound, the Ursaring is then painted with mud that came from the mud on the back of the previous Lord Ursaluna. Any design can be painted on the heir, but there MUST be a solid circle representing the full moon painted on the Ursaring’s forehead.
Lady Liligant- Known as the Rite or Dance of the Sun, and MUST be performed while the sun is visible. Upon the Brava Arena, the Warden must lead the young Petilil in a dance akin to a Liligant’s Victory Dance.
Lord Basculegion- Known as the Rite of the Waves, this ceremony cannot easily be attended by the Warden of the Lord of the Waves. Instead, the current Lord Basculegion takes his heir down to the Sunken Arena once night has fallen, and calls upon a school of Basculin spirits, as well as the spirit of the first Lady of the Waves. The school of Basculin then combine with the heir, then The Lady(who is not absorbed), and finally, the current Lord Basculegion must be absorbed in his entirety by his heir. As Basculegion can live for a very long time, this Rite is only done when the current Lord is ready to pass on.
Lord Arcanine- Known as the Trial of the Isles. As seen and mentioned in the game, the Growlithe heir must make their way across the water to reach Firespit Island and the Molten Arena. It is their Warden’s duty to train the young pup to brave the waves and make the swim, despite their disadvantage and weakness to water.
Lord Sneasler- Known as the Trial of the Cliffs, once their Warden has trained the Sneasel heir to the best of their ability, they are given an amulet made from the claw of the previous Lord Sneasler. They must start at the base of Mt Coronet and climb to the highest point in Hisui(either the top of the Temple of Sinnoh, or the peak above the Stone Portal if that is too sacred) and meet the rising sun.
Lord Electrode- Known as the Rite of the Hallow, the Warden takes inert seeds collected from the previous Lord Electrode during it’s life and scatters them in a ring in Moonview Arena. The Voltorb heir is then placed in the center of the ring and lets out an electrical attack to spark and recharge the electrical seeds, causing the electrical current to run through the ring and get amplified before surging back to supercharge the Voltorb. This surge of Amplified energy then causes the Lord to evolve.
Lord Braviary- Known as the Trial of the Skies, the young Rufflet must fly a course shown to them by their Warden, taking them from Avalugg’s Legacy to the southern peaks of the Alabaster Icelands, and finally up to the flat square Arena at the top of Snowpoint Temple.(Yes, this is basically the course Sabi makes the player run, but on the ground. Also, I thought the very very top of the Temple was perfectly arena shaped)
Lord Avalugg- Known as the Rite of the Tundra. Rarely happens since Avalugg can be INCREDIBLY long lived, some lasting centuries if nothing kills them. A Lord Avalugg death has only happened once since the Pearl Clan’s arrival(which I HC as being around 1000 years ago). When the previous Lord feels his life comming to an end, he travels to a spot in the Icelands to pass away, leaving behind a mountain of ice and rock, the body of the last Lord coming to be known as Avalugg’s Legacy. Ice and rock is then collected from it by the Warden and taken with the Lord’s heir to Icepeak Arena. The young Bergmite must then consume the ice and rock of the previous Lord in order to evolve.
And yeah, that’s about it. I like that most of these involve some carryover from the previous Lord or Lady, as a sort of passing on the torch to the next generation. Also, feel free to use or change any of these ideas as you see fit.

Fearful Ghosts
[Set in @shadowonwater's Viral Pokérus AU, which itself is inspired by @monsoon-of-art's Pokérus AU]
Urgh. Talk about a nightmare!
Iscan groaned, slowly rousing from the the worst dream he’d ever had. What had seemed to be a slight cold was actually that Pokérus thing the Clan had warned him about. And silly him, he thought it was something else at first because the transformative bug hadn’t been spreading in the Coastlands.
So he’d gone ahead with his plan to try and get past his fear of Dusclops, which had gone… marginally well? He’d at least managed to ask one to help flavor a treat for Lord Basculegion, but… well, the moment it was done, he was so ready to get out of there.
He just hadn’t gotten out soon enough, as when the high fever rolled around he wasn’t growing scales as he’d expected. Instead, his skin was turning grey and cloth-like.
The realization sent the poor Warden into a panic. He couldn’t be a Ghost. He just couldn’t! Ghosts were evil things that stole souls and ate them up! OK, his Lord was an exception, but still!
At some point he fell asleep, worn out after so much panic. And thank the Legends - he was waking up, and it was all a dream.
Had to be. Sinnoh wouldn’t let something so horrendous happen to him.
“...think he’s finally awake?” Eh? That wasn’t Palina.
“Dunno.
…you sure it’s the scardey-cat?” Nor was that…
“Positive. Boss-’mon saw the changes himself!”
“And the other Boss-’mon?”
“Yeah, he backed it up. Reluctantly.”
“And he’s seriously letting us be the welcome wagon?”
“With a warning to be on good behavior. And yes, he’s going to compensate .”
“So we can’t scare him? Aww, man-wait, where’d he go?”
Iscan hurried in dragging himself along the ground, having decided it’d be a bad idea to stay around those two. They weren’t familiar, and he didn’t want to risk them being Ghosts.
(The dragging was just in case he didn’t really have legs anymore, ok?)
At least he was in the woods, so… shore had to be close. If he was still on Firespit, at least.
Speaking of shore, he could see Lord Arcanine in the water, helping…was that one of his littermates? No, none of them had made it to the island. At least, not that he knew of.
But that was definitely a Growlithe trying to swim just off the coastline, so maybe he was wrong? Or maybe…
“P-Palina?”
Crap, he was too far out, they didn’t hear him! Drag himself a bit closer…closer… and maybe a bit louder this time?
“PALINA?”
Both giant puppy and small canine whirled to look his way. Yes! “Oh thank Sinnoh, it’s you…” A sigh of relief. “Just g-glad to see you’re alright.”
“Ah. Umm. Same for you, Iscan?” He blinked as Palina dragged herself out of the water, shaking herself off. Why did she sound so…nervous? Ignoring the fact that they’d both fully changed.
(He really hoped it wasn’t what he thought it was. Nope. Just a fish out of water, nothing else to see here.)
“OI!” Oh no, those two caught up! Turning to look, Iscan decided it was time to get the Distortion out of here. As he’d feared, his “welcoming party” had been two Ghosts - a Dusclops and a Drifloon. So time to get away from the soul-stealing monsters please and thank you.
He didn’t even consider his possible lack of legs, opting to get up and run. Running was faster, after all - and knowing he had ghosts after him? Meant speed was a very good thing to have.
The cowardly Warden raced towards the ocean, putting a hand to his mouth in an attempt to call his Lord. His whistling wasn’t as good as it normally was, and - oh dear, apparently it wasn’t good enough to call his Lord. Dart behind Lord Arcanine (they’d never try and steal a Noble’s soul) and keep trying, putting both hands in his mouth.
But try after try, it just wouldn’t work. Lord Basculegion never came.
The feeling of fabric on his shoulder sent chills throughout his body. Crap, they caught him, and now his soul was going to be eaten alive…
“Buddy! Please! Calm down!” Calm down. The Ghosts wanted him to calm down.
Laughter poured out at the mere thought. “W-what, s-so my soul will b-be easier to eat or something? Nope! Nopenopenopenop..”
A groan from his pursuers before Dusclops filled his vision. Iscan yelped, jumping back and-
Oh Legends, that felt weird! W-whatever it was, he couldn’t explain it. It was like he was in the same place as something else, but…that shouldn’t be possible! “...wow. Rude.” The Drifloon went through him - through him - and sighed, sharing a Look with the Dusclops. “Do we seriously have to put up with this?”
“Yeah. I got lucky with helping him, but you…” Was that Dusclops smirking? (Without a mouth?) “I seem to recall you giving the poor man one scare too many.”
“Oh, so this is punishment for me? Ugh. Well, what the Lord says goes, I guess…” Wat.
It wasn’t Lord Arcanine, he was just as confused. And none of the other Lords held sway over Firespit Island.
But…why would Lord Basculegion tell these ghosts to put up with him? Wouldn’t his Lord tell them to stay away? He had before, it was the only reason he hadn’t been accosted on duty since his first yea-
Where were his legs.
He couldn’t feel his legs at all! But he was standing, he had to be -
A look down instead confirmed his worst fears. He wasn’t standing. He was floating. Nothing was holding him up whatsoever. “This can’t be happening…”
Iscan’s lone whisper stilled all onlookers. He ignored the eyes on him, instead looking down at his hands - only to see small strips of cloth. “This can’t be happening.”
Drifting (drifting!!!) over the water, the praying coward looked at his reflection. Sinnoh, please don’t let it be a…
Duskull’s. A Duskull was looking at him from the water, gaping in shock. “This-this-THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING!”
It hadn’t been a dream! He actually was a Duskull now! A soul-eating ghos-
The specter went dead straight as realization struck. Soul-eating. Oh, he might already be nibbling on Palina’s soul and not even know it!
He looked towards the Growlithe, ignoring her comments on Warden Ingo’s volume. For a split second, he even got closer, forgetting that it'd only make things worse.
There really wasn’t a choice, was there? “I…s-sorry, Palina…”
“Sorry? For wha-ISCAN! Wait!” But his love’s words fell on deaf “ears” as the Duskull sped off.
He knew the other Ghosts would follow him. And, for once, he welcomed it. All the better to keep Palina out of their soul-eating grasp.
As the cloth-and-mask ghost raced along, he missed seeing something that might’ve given him pause. Might’ve made him rethink Ghosts, just a little bit.
But his single-minded desire to protect Palina kept Iscan from seeing teardrops littering the path behind him.

You know, originally, because I was introduced to the Nobles out of order, I actually at first assumed that the Nobles had one Lady for each Lord. It’s because I learned about Lady Sneasler and Lord Electrode first, and then Lady Liligant and Lord Ursaluna, so I just extrapolated that there must be a Lord for each Lady and vice versa.
I was actually pretty disappointed that Lady Sneasler and Liligant are the only girls. If it were up to me, the system would be that the Nobles are intrinsically linked, so that the heirs of each Noble are paired, and there would be a Lady for each Lord. Every new generation would be swapped genders, except for the current generation of the Isles, with the little Growlithe that Palina’s raising being a rare exception, confounded by his small stature as a runt.
Lord Wyrdeer would be the Lady of the Woods, Lord Basculegion would be Lady of the Isles, and Lord Braviary would be Lady of the Tundra.
It would balance things out and make everything equal, and I think it’s cool in a way, a Lord and Lady for each land in Hisui.

The Dreaded Arcanine Fight... wasn't too bad! (Faun Plays Pokémon)
You heard it here folks; this fight wasn't too bad! I thought I'd spend ages on it like in my main playthrough but nope! I only died once (and by died I mean I blacked out and continued the gauge from where I left off)
Also I went to lean over my switch to get something and I must've accidently let Lily out so here take this
Tumblr media
Before I went to Arcanine however, I did some MASSIVE grit training as I was sick of Vade getting one shot. In the process, I was able to evolve Lily and Rose and edited the team's moves a bit. After desiccating the local population of Shinx, we're good to go!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yeah, like the title says, it wasn't too bad! Invincibility frames are your friend in this fight in terms of dodging and I was able to get 2/4ths of his gauge down without battling! In terms of battling, good news! Vade doesn't die in one hit! She died in two, but she was able to give off some good damage (putting Arcanine in the red) before I sent Lily out and Drain Punched to finish off, which she miraculously obeyed twice!
And there's that! We have ourselves another noble quelled!
Tumblr media
good morning funny tain guy.
Tumblr media
oh no.
Tumblr media
oh god it's him.
Tumblr media
Bro shut your bitchass up your name is Melli and you have blue hair and pronouns I'll have you know my Kirlia's Confusion could send you through that space-time rift up there and back you good-for-nothing Prince Lear ripoff.
Tumblr media
Yeah hear that Melli? You just made like half the village suffer you Twitter user (wait no I can't make that joke twitter didn't exist in 1910-)
Tumblr media
ANYWAY that's all for this update! Sorry no Volo segment, I was upset too :( until next time!!

I love having a hyperfixation on a game I've never played or seen anyone play. All the info I have was obtained via pure osmosis and the person who introduced me to it is exactly the same
This leads to fun moments everyday when I'm reading fanfictions and I have to quickly look up a character or concept I haven't encountered before and I get to learn whole new info that recontextualises the whole thing

Headcanon meme for volo
2, 5, 14, 23, 35, 49
2, do they have any daily rituals: he grooms his pokmon in the morning, and prays to arceus each morning and night.
5, cleansliness habits (personal, workspace): he tries to to keep himself fairly clean, as he greatly dislikes the feeling of dirt and mud on his clothing. as for his workspace, his bag is clean but it's organized in a very weird way that only really makes sense to him.
14, Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.): has occasional pain from various healed injuries and has joint pain in his left wrist
23, How organized are they? How does this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life?: as i mentioned in 5, he is organized, but it makes no sense to anyone else, his priorities also end up weird because of this, and his merchant job is pretty much never at the top of that list
35, What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time?: he likes putting his hair up in various styles but because they can sometimes take awhile to do and don't usually work well with a hat, it's nothing something he does very often.
49, If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?: he fights like a wild animal, he has no idea what he's doing and is fighting instinctively. there will be hairpulling, scratching, and biting

How can you be so sure?
Tumblr media
‘Cos it happened to me, too. It was under different circumstances, but I made a decision to come here for a reason. I don’t regret it, and I know Pharos doesn’t, either. He just needs time adjusting, is all.
Tumblr media
I don’t think I follow...
Tumblr media
Sometimes, the greatest show of love one can make is making sacrifices... and Pharos loves you, Bell. Trust me on this.
Tumblr media
... okay. Okay, I think I get it. I’ll trust you. But I still want to do something for dad...
Tumblr media
You shouldn’t have to shoulder your parent’s emotional burdens, Bell. It’s not healthy-

No, no, it’s not like that.

Reverse Inheritance
[Set in @ailingwriter's Post-Rus AU]
“Whoa!”
“Sorry about that!”
“It’s alright…” Palina sighed, slowly walking through Jubilife Village, being careful to not step on or through anything important. Rebuilding was going at a decent pace, and she was - “Look out!” - getting by rather well.
Except for the size.
Everyone had shrunk down after Akari had gone to see Arceus (who was apparently the actual Almighty Sinnoh), except for her. Everyone had gotten smaller and weaker, when she hadn’t. And as a result, she felt like she was in a world made of paper - one wrong move, and someone would be hurt (Or worse…she didn’t like thinking about “worse”).
“Whoa!” “Hey!” “Watch it, kid!” Wait, that wasn’t about her. A look towards the source revealed an orange-and black blur.
“MOMMA!” Ruff! Wow, the young Lord had definitely been getting stronger. His Warden laughed, gently moving him from the front of her neck to her back.
“Heh, see all you want to see for now?” She got a soft nuzzle in return.
“More or less! I just really wanted to be with you Momma.” Palina couldn’t help but chuckle, heading towards the main hall. Most mothers wouldn’t let their children out of sight for so long, but then again most mothers weren’t adopting a young future Lord who had already survived on his own for a while.
She’d honestly expected him to come back during the meeting, but…this way she could keep an eye on the pup. Hopefully the others wouldn’t mind her adopted son coming along…
And then her lip was bit. Iscan actually hadn’t met the young Lord yet, at least not since the rebuilding began. Then again, she hadn’t seen him either…his new form didn’t lend itself well to the rebuilding process, so instead he and Lord Basculegion had worked with the others who had wound up aquatic Pokemon. They had talked since Akari’s fateful meeting with Almighty Sinnoh, but even then it was only via messenger.
It was partially her fault, at least - and Iscan, thank Sinnoh, understood. The trauma from the prior Lord Arcanine’s death hadn’t fully left her yet, and once the youngling decided that she’d adopted him, swimming lessons seemed like the worst possible idea. But she’d not been able to work up the nerve to tell her boyfriend that she was technically a mother now - well, she’d hinted at it once or twice, but it was so subtle it had to have gone over the Basculegion’s head…
A sad sigh escaped her muzzle, her charge looking down at her face with confusion. This would be the first time they’d be able to meet up with Iscan since the Pokerus subsided… it had been agreed that Jubilife Village would be the best meeting ground for inter-clan events, given it was the base of the (relatively) neutral Galaxy Team. And they were going to meet to discuss how the reconstruction was going, as well as what modifications would need to be made.
…hopefully she wasn’t going to be the focus of many of those modifications.
—--
An hour and a half in, and Palina had learned one thing about these meetings: They got packed fast.
She could see a flick of piscine scales here and there through the sea of fur and feathers, but the only Basculegion she could get a clear view at all of was the Lord. It was…honestly somewhat frustrating. That and she barely had room to fidget without bumping into somebody, but to her that wasn’t as big a deal.
There were others who found the tight quarters very frustrating, however. “With all due respect, Ms. Cyllene, do you intend for this to be the final size of the meeting house?”
The Abra sighed, rubbing her forehead. “Originally, yes. However, we forgot to include the Nobles in our plans, which is why our current situation is so…cramped.” A cough. “Thus, we will be revising those plans once this meeting concludes. It will set us back some, but future gatherings will be simply impossible with this kind of space.” A chorus of agreement sounded in reply, and Palina joined in with a couple barks of her own.
Her “son”, however, wasn’t as happy. “...They aren’t upset with you for being so big, right Momma?”
What else could she do but look back and give the youth a gentle lick? “Of course not, dear. My size isn’t the lone issue here, after all.”
He sighed in relief. “Oh, thank Arceus. I was worried they were upset because you got to be a Noble…”
If Ingo could see into Palina’s mind right now, he  would describe its current state as a “train crash”. “...what?”
A blink so cute it almost distracted the Warden from what had been said. “What what?”
The pup remained oblivious to the ceased chatter in the room, alongside every eye falling on the two of them. Palina was not, but she had a bigger problem. “...W-what did you say?”
“Oh! I said I was worried they were upset because you got to be a Noble.” And suddenly everyone had something new to talk about. Loudly, and in a very unorganized manner.
“Erm, excuse me!” Those words cut through the chatter and jabber, forming a dam to let their speaker weigh in on matters. “You…do realize it makes no sense for Palina to be a Noble, right?” The Professor ruffled his feathers, gently approaching. “The status of Noble is passed down along one’s bloodline. As much as Miss Palina has cared for you, she’s not a blood relation, so…”
“So?” The youth jumped back in, blinking. “She’s Momma. Papa said that my other Momma could be a Lady if he had to leave before I was ready.” The room chilled slightly at the implications, before heating back up as thoughts veered back to the topic at hand.
“Y-you’re saying…” Palina gulped, shock gluing her eyes on her young charge. “You’re saying I’m filling your father’s role?”
“Yep!” The pup gave a happy bark, oblivious to the mounting confusion in the room. “You’re Lady Momma Palina Arcanine!”
The silly words of a babe were all it took. The dam crumbled, the questions and worries it tried to keep at bay now flooding the room.
Her pup was washed away in the deluge of confusion and debate, falling off his mother and onto…something. Adaman, maybe? Palina really didn’t care. She…she needed to go. And so she did.
Thankfully, her large (Noble…) size meant she had to stand near a door. Thus, the Arcanine was able to just stumble out, ignoring her “son’s” confused yips and barks. Even if she was able to process them, she really needed some time alone.
She was a Noble. That changed everything. She had to keep an eye on territory now. On the rest of the litter. More so than she had as a Warden.
And the offerings - sweet Sinnoh, were the others going to make her offerings?!? Oh that was going to be so awkward… not to mention the whole Warden thing, she’d need a replacement apparently…
Suffice to say, the Arcanine was Freaking Out. And that was just the mildest way to put it...her actual thoughts were best left unmentioned.
“P-Palina?” Ugh, Iscan found her, she’d need to find somewhere else to think-
Wait.
Iscan found her?!?
The Fire-Type whirled around, worries and fears briefly forgotten in her eagerness to see Iscan again. And there he was… At her eye level. Wait, what?? True, the Basculegion was not that small, all things considered - why, he had been the bigger of them before Arceus stepped in! But with how large Palina had stayed, she never expected him to be so close in size! Wait, no, as she looked down she noticed he was hovering off the ground a fair ways… y-yeah, that had to be it. That made more sense. She gave a crooked smile, eyes drifting back up to her lover’s worried visage as he voiced his worries. “...Palina, h-honey…is everything alright?”
“...I…no. Nothing’s alright!” Haunches plopped on the floor as she let a mournful whine, the faked smile giving way to legitimate despair. “I’m a Noble, by Sinnoh’s name! I’m going to have to get offerings now, and patrol my territory, and-and-and…”
“PALINA!” Suddenly, her face was full of fish (And why did that make her blush?), the Diamond Clan member’s eyes boring into her own with surprising intensity. “Palina…y-you’re catastrophizing…”
This was a catastrophe, alright, but… “H-how does that have to deal with all thi-”
“Y-you’re jumping to the worst case scenarios, thinking of the worst that can happen.” His fins gripped her head tighter (Wait when’d they get there?). “I-I know, because…because, well, I do it a lot myself…”
“...Eh?”
A sad sigh as the fish backed away from the dog. “Best example I have… isn’t that current, but… I-I’ve always assumed the worst about Ghost-types in the past. Always thought they’d steal my s-soul or something.” That was common knowledge, sadly. “W-why, I was scared of Lord Basculegion for a while…” That, on the other paw, was not.
“Seriously? You were scared of your Noble, yet you became his Warden?”
“A-actually… it was because I was making progress past my fear of him that I was chosen as his Warden…” A small chuckle. “I’ve always had a talent with fish, so that f-fear was all that stood in the way, really. And…when I realized that my Lord wasn’t technically dead, unlike other Ghosts, it gave me something…of a release. If that was different, then surely more could be different.”
“Wow, that fast huh?”
More laughter. “Oh Sin-Arceus no! Having to watch over him was still as much of a nightmare. And besides, my fears just had less grounding. They weren’t all gone.”
“...But you came around eventually, right?”
A nod. “Y-yeah. Eventually, I got used to my Lord, and realized that he…really wasn’t something to be afraid of.” A small smile. “I…I think you might have to do the same here.”
The Arcanine locked back up at the reminder of her new status. “B-but…it’s not the same…”
“Really? You’ve been thrust into a situation you’re terrified of, and you have no way to tell if it’ll pan out or not… A-am I wrong?” As much as Palina hated to admit it…
“N-no. You…you really aren’t wrong…” A bit lip. Sinnoh, why was she going along with this? Oh. Right. It was Iscan. Her lover. That would be why. “But…this is a much bigger deal…”
A fin tapped her shoulder, snapping her out of her thoughts. Looking up, her eyes met with Iscan’s once more. “Hey. We’re going to be in the same territory. Lord Basculegion and I will help as much as we can…” His smile grew. “And I’m sure the rest of the Nobles will also.”
“...A-alright…” A shudder as she made to stand, wobbly. “I guess we better head back to town now, huh?”
“Y-yeah…” The fish chuckled, gently helping Palina back towards the village. “And, uh, don’t worry about the kid. Lord Basculegion was keeping an eye on him for me.”
“Oh, phew.” Palina sighed in relief, at least the future Lord was being looked after…
Hang on. “Wait, you already knew?” And there she goes, blushing again while her fellow Warden (was that right anymore?) just chuckled. Maybe those hints in her letters weren’t so subtle after all.
