Why is it that Alicent and Sansa antis think that in order to earn “forgiveness” they will have to abandon their families and pander to the fan favourite characters

People now want Alicent to betray her family and join team black for “redemption” (it would make her an even shittier person but okay) and earn Rhaenyras forgiveness by killing her fist born, Aegon.

People also want Sansa to stay away from the starks/winterfell after she apologises for *insert childhood drama that’s been blown out of proportion here* then go back to the vale forever or die.

Hero or Villain, women deserve better than to be given a fate of “repenting for their sins” and going against their wants and desires for the sake of your faves narrative

There's also something Southern about it all. She's of Andal decent (pale) and from Oldtown (southernmost part of Westeros). Oldtowners like her should be covering up to protect themselves from the sun. It makes sense for modest dress and veils to be most prominent/popular there, out of the whole country.

her modesty has so many layers in my mind, like

A) it's about her religion, it's about her faith and how she connects to and honors her gods.

B) it's about keeping some of herself, to herself, and those she trusts. it's about control. it's about feeling safe and clean and modest and safe from stares and touches and lust. it's about reclaiming even just a piece of herself for no one but her.

C) It's about holding onto a bit of her home, her mother, her house. it's about staying connected to Oldtown and the Vale and her people, her family. it's something she can give to her daughter, that her children can give to their children.

like it's layered and tragic and beautiful and it's so so her.

I think she loves going back to Oldtown, it's never as often as she would like, but she loves to go back and see all the women with veils and long skirts, out living their lives. she loves getting to go around and compliment other girls veils or intricate undergarments that covers their arms when it's too hot for long sleeves, it makes her feels young and home and safe again.

she finds an excuse to tour the market so she can bring home new veils, one's she picked, made by her people, the ones she wore when she was young.

its like a breath of fresh air.

she brings Helaena with her, and typically the boys and Criston join her, she places scarves and shawls over them, tickles them with the corners of silk scarves, lets them pick some for her.

even the men in Oldtown cover up more than those in Kings Landing do, so the boys ask to match with them, and they have a day spent out in the son like she had when she was young. she sees her daughter running in her long skirt, chasing after the boys, donned in high patterned socks and half rolled up sleeves, with some bug or another, veil flapping in the wind. she leans against Criston, who's making sure the wind doesn't blow her own veil away even though she's assured him time and time again she pins her veils very well. she watches her children live her childhood and its just so nice.

I just think she'd be so relieved to be able to take this little piece of her home back to the Keep.

I’m trying to have a coherent thought here about Ruby and Neo parallels. I’m getting on my tinfoil hat here bare with me.

In Roman Holiday Neo doesn’t really have motives aside from wanting someone to understand her. She finds that in Roman who is the first person to acknowledge her abilities and treat her like an actual genuine friend. Her only goal in the Fall of Beacon was to stay with Roman. So much of her identity was tied to him because she was able to comfortably be herself around him.

We already know that Ruby’s identity is also tied to someone important to her, her mom. That doesn’t need much explaining. I think in order for either of them to move forward they would need to let go of the metaphorical ghosts they’re chasing which is easier said than done and I’m not entirely sure that Neo would be able to as spiteful as she is.

Basically what I’m saying is Ruby VS Neo but add in some Ego Death.

I hate when people talk about Alicent and her age as if HOTD isn’t an alternate universe to Fire and blood at this point. Like obviously she was 18 in the books but when most people talk about her it’s HOTD. And they only bring it up when talk about her relationship with Viserys saying that the relationship was consensual since she “seduced him”.

Looking at young Alicent and Rhaenyra and wondering why Otto and Viserys did anything but love them and bring every nice boy their age to court to see them at their leisure.

I'm sorry but the moment Alicent decided to obey her father she knew what was going to happen she knew she would have to have sex with him and have heirs. It's the only reason viserys remarried

what else was she meant to do? this was a day and age where women, especially young girls were controlled by their fathers, to some if not a great extent until they were married off (children of nobles typically betrothed for political reasons not love, these betrothals arranged by their fathers to whoever they pleased and saw fit, no matter what it could mean for the daughter). was she supposed to say no? was she supposed to disobey? what could have happened to her if she did? there was no point in which she could say no, when she could disagree. she was a girl, a child, all she could do was bite her tongue and pray for a miracle, pray for Viserys to not take to her, that at the very least he would wait to get her pregnant (the fact a 14 year old had to worry about that is sickening)

she was 14, she was grieving Aemma and reliving the pain of the loss of her mother, her father gave her an order, though disguised as a suggestion, one she could not deny. it didn't mean she wanted to, it didn't mean she wanted him to marry her, it doesn't mean she would have been forced to bear heirs as a child herself (especially because Aemma died because Viserys tried to get her pregnant to young and cause long lasting health issues that eventually lead to her fatal pregnancy), it doesn't mean she wanted any of it. but she didn't have any other choice, she didn't have a choice when her father sent her to his chambers, when Viserys claimed her hand, when Viserys assumed her consent and raped her in their marital bed, when she bore multiple children before she was 18, when she had to take care of him in his illness, when she had to practically rule in his stead. women didn't have choices at the time, nine of it was s choice she could have said no to, she just had to take it, all of it, cause her father told her to and it's her duty to obey him, and then Viserys married her and it was her duty to serve him.

y'all are so quick to blame a CHILD for the actions of her father and the king himself and forgetting the time and place she was in. nothing she could have done would have spared her fate, if not bringing her a worse one.
