i think the reason why house of the dragon's treatment of alicent breaks my brain is because it's unironically written from the perspective of, like, a tyrion bro, but hidden under the cover of (targaryen) women's empowerment.
it's written from the position of not simply someone who identifies with tyrion as a nerdy misfit, but rather someone who would sympathize with tyrion more than sansa in their marriage to an absurd degree. someone who would valorize a grown man for resisting his attraction to a thirteen-year-old hostage and vilify said hostage for resisting or humiliating him during their wedding/marriage.
to them, a man being inconvenienced is worse than a woman (or girl) being abused. a wife resisting a husband's wishes is worse than the husband maritally raping her. a teenage girl with zero social capital surviving courtly intrigues is weak and annoying, but a girl burning all her problems away by dragon is badass. it's this exact brand of misogyny that is not only passively woven into hotd but also actively informs how the characters' actions are endorsed or condemned.
the most generous excuses are made for daemon and viserys because the show views them as victims of alicent's nefarious manipulations (because politicking is evil when a woman does it but clever and funny when a man does it). daemon realized it was wrong to groom rhaenyra as a teen... after bringing her to a brothel and molesting her there... so he's really a good guy. viserys chose to marry the 15-year-old over the 12-year-old so he's really not that bad. meanwhile alicent is the true misogynist for going along with her father's plan and getting married. it's like reading 2015 asoiaf reddit but in $10m-per-episode form

Actually it doesnt matter if Alicent was a lesbian or not ,if she wanted Rhaenyra or Criston sexually/romatically she will probably never act on it or figure out herself .She will never admit said desire to herself because her entire wiew of sexuality and romance is tainted in what Viserys did to her and now sex is associated with duty and heirs someone'else desire. There is not hope for her to figure it out .Therapy or a personal journey would do it but one is impossible and the second might never happen.

The outer parapet came up to her chin, but along the inner edge of the walk was nothing, nothing but a long plunge to the bailey seventy or eighty feet below. All it would take was a shove, she told herself. He was standing right there, right there, smirking at her with those fat wormlips. You could do it, she told herself. You could. Do it right now. It wouldn't even matter if she went over with him. It wouldn't matter at all. | A Game of Thrones - Sansa VI

So, you're saying Daenerys is a "white feminist" but social justice and virtue signaling in art is bad in the same sentence? 😂😂😂 Poor little retarded cry baby. So desperate that can't even stay consistent.
You just called an Autistic person the r SLUR in defense of a fictional character who's in story "race" is based on the aryan race... remember what those aryan's started calling themselves? Remember what they did to autistic people? But we'll let that slide this time dear.
I think show!Dany is written and adapted by hbo and D&D in a bland 2010s white feminist way that GRRM did not intend but was popular in media at the time to make money. That's my biased opinion on the way a fictional character was written in a book adaptation. I do not think Dany is a white feminist because Dany is not real.
Social justice has its place in art, but fandom is not Social Justice activism and all art does not need to be radical. No one should be judged for making art that doesn't hurt anyone. No one is required to make their art soft and a safe place.
Liking Dany, Sansa, Alicent, Cersei, Rhaenyra, Rhaenys etc. does not make you a better feminist and it doesn't "raise awareness" or make you cooler or more liberal. Art is very often fiction there for is not real and is rather inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. You're permitted to enjoy it as you personally see fit.
No one who likes Aegon, Aemond, Joffery (please remember that his actor got so much hate for playing that character he had to find a new CAREER PATH not job a CAREER PATH) or Ramsay is automatically a morally corrupt human being and this whole it's "sus" thing shows a lack of media literacy, critical thinking and large amounts of purity culture shifted into fandom, social justice or some other outlet instead properly unpacking.
This shit is all fake and for fun literally none of it matters. None of it has ever mattered. Not the shit that "happened" between Dean and Cas or Clarke and Lexa. No fandom shit is REAL. Using it to assign moral value to anything ruins the experience. This is a hobby, it's not that serious. Let people have fun and do what they want. Using FICTION to signify MORALITY is bullshit.
Virtue signaling isn't a simple issue with things that matter, why the fuck would we bring it into FICTION or a HOBBY. Right now, this fandom is doing that with actors and jeopardizing their careers not to mention how we treat each other or how we all go around antagonizing each other over a fictional succession crisis.
But I expect someone who still uses slurs in 2024 is probably too dense and self absorbed to realize any of that on their own. Have a day sweetie.

You know at the end, Aegon ii, Helaena, Aemond, and Daeron were failed by everyone in their family. Especially by their Targaryen relatives.
King viserys, their father. Didn’t care for them as much or showed any attention to them. Like when he died, neither of them really showed any sadness or grief over losing their father. He was just a stranger them other than him being their king.
Queen Rhaenyra, their older sister. She didn’t grow a bond with any of her siblings. There wasn’t any love or care between them. She never considered her half brothers as her brothers. She didn’t have a bond with her only sister. Which is why neither of them were hesitant to hurt each others family.
Prince Daemon, their uncle. He hated the Hightower’s so much that even though his younger nephews and niece were born Targaryens, they had Hightower blood in them because of their mother. he despised them for that and didn’t have a bond with them like he did with Rhaenyra. If he can get along with his niece who is sixteen years younger than him, he had no excuse to not get along with his nephews and niece.
Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, their older cousin. Now I understand that she is actually much older because she’s their fathers first cousin. But I feel like she as well, is part of the members of the Targaryen family that didn’t step up for her younger cousins. Much like viserys, she practically ignored them and she also hated the hightowers. (Now I didn’t wanna say too much on her because like I said she is much older and she has her own family so I understand)
Everyone likes to talk about and blame only Otto and Alicent for the siblings upbringing and how they turned out. But turn a blind eye to the fact that the family that they were BORN into, failed them as well and didn’t help at all.

Genuinely insane to me that there are Targ stans claiming that the Targs, an incestuous family of former slaveowners of a colonial empire, came to Westeros and were corrupted by the evil eViL Andal culture and religion.
Like what??? The Andals and the faith of the seven are absolutely not without their own systemic issues (nor are the first men) BUT to argue that the rulers have been corrupted by the people they conquered is INSANE.
