she has six stories left to change my mind but so far i gotta say reading kelly link’s get in trouble right after sofia samatar’s tender is…….. not doing link any favors
Lmao I have so many questions about that promo pic!!! Was this s1?! MM looks more like s2/3, but I can’t see how they’d have him with a Mini Cooper in later seasons 😭 are there similar photos for the rest of the cast?? Or network was just like nah let’s just throw Rio in front of the lamest background and call it a day?
I love all the background knowledge you have from watching this show live haha. As a ‘streamed it’ girlie, I do regret missing all the behind the scenes hot goss!! Please continue to share, it’s so enjoyable for me 😂
Haha yeah it was a promo pic for Season 1!
The (first time) they shared it was on their insta back in March 2018 so when S1 was airing. Obviously a totally silly promo shoot with a different ~vibe~ to what he ends up being lol mini cooper Rio woulda been too funny
I get the sense they were using any shots they had lying around at that time (the promo for GG was always a total mess) and because it's so odd I always assumed it was taken during the shooting of the original pilot when the show was different/before they recast Beth and changed things.
Or it wouldn't even surprise me if it was actually just a costume test for Rio that they photoshopped a random background behind so they could post something. It's literally stock footage skyline stock footage car.
I'm guessing there aren't any similarly odd pics of the girls from that time because if it was from a character photoshoot they probably woulda shot pics as a three? And they couldn't use old material that woulda had Kathleen Perkins as Beth.
And to back me up on this theory literally the day before they posted this Rio image they posted separate portrait pics of all the girls but not in character just from a cute recent (at the time) shoot they did.
And lol yeah honestly we were in the TRENCHES 😂 I have sooo much cursed background knowledge and most of the bts is best left forgotten lmao but it was a wild brilliant experience watching GG live week to week, the 3am streaming anxiety for me was unreal and the live watching with the fandom and insanity we endured and the hilarity and the fun and drama and analysis....man i miss it 🥹
Did you ever read the LMM short story 'The Growing Up of Cornelia'? It has another Dean figure (Sidney, a tall dark man who is a ~cynic and ~detests society) straight down to the age gap, although here I can't decide if it's better or worse haha. I adore the first line: "Aunt Jemima gave me this diary for a Christmas present. It's just the sort of gift a person named Jemima would be likely to make."
I actually hadn’t read this (or if I had I absolutely forgot) but why does it feel like LM Montgomery wrote a Jo March x Dean Priest crossover. Cornelia—or even better, “Nic”—is so exactly the kind of girl heroine I was obsessed with as a child. Honestly, I’d have LOVED to read a whole book about her, I’m sad she only got a short romantic story.
But Sidney is absolutely the Dean/David/Barney prototype (since I see this story was published in 1908, so LMM had put that together earlier than I thought)—deeply Gothic with the house and the grounds and everything. Also the previous engagement that gets Nic jealous, very Valancy about Ethel Traverse of her. Love to see LMM cannibalizing herself this way.
I also can’t decide if Sidney is worse for wishing Nic is young vs Dean waiting for Emily to be old, though they express happiness at the effect the youthfulness of both girls have on them which is. Alright Mr Midlife Crisis. And that final paragraph about “what happened after that isn’t fit to be in a diary.” 👀 ok I see you Maud.
mango do you.... have any hcs or ideas or scenes in mind for the joker so depressed he joins maruki and akechi and sumire (and phantom thieves?) having to deal with it....... 👁️
(steeples my fingers and takes a deep breath)
Maybe, in a discord server somewhere in the ether, there's an AU where Akira became so depressed that he took Maruki's offer when it was made the day he and Akechi confronted Maruki, after Maruki mentions there that negating the idealized reality might mean Goro's disappearance. Maybe in this AU, Akira got so depressed, so jaded that the world could so easily reject the thieves' efforts and act like none of them mattered at all, that he devolves into a mindstate of uncaring— because what was it all for if the people he cared about most couldn't be happy? So then maybe there's a palace, themed after Prince Prospero's walled abbeys from The Masque of the Red Death, where cognitions of all his friends live in an eternal ball where nobody has to get hurt or fade from existence or suffer fighting through a life that clearly doesn't care for them. Maybe Akira is so far gone that it's up to Akechi to snap out of it and rally the thieves and save Akira from his Masquerade of Apathy... Maybe...
What must this silly band look like to people who aren't in the know. You see, oh! They have a chill songs playlist, let's see what songs are on there,
"Kill Or Be Killed". Oh.
That's bleak for a chilled out playlist, what else is on here?
-> "Ghosts"
-> "Collateral Damage"
-> "Drones"
-> "The Dark Side"
-> "Soldier's Poem"
Sean Astin starred with Sarah Drew three years ago in this delightful Twilight Zone-esque short film that showed you COULD make movies while on lockdown!
A sharp bang echoed down the empty corridor. Xyloxu covered their aural openings in pain. What was that? Before they could move away or call for help, a second bang exploded followed by a quieter, tinkling sound. Was that? No. That couldn't be laughter? Concerned, Xyloxu hurried down the hallway towards the laughing and discovered their shipmate, Anne laying on the floor.
"Are you injured?" Xyloxu rushed to Anne's side, only remembering at the last moment to pull back and wait for a response. The ship's captain had been very clear in their briefing not to touch a human unexpectedly. Living on a death world made the species jumpy and prone to lash out when surprised. Anne only continued laughing and smiled up at Xyloxu from the floor.
"Oh hey! What are you up to today?" Anne asked, propping herself up on her elbows. Xyloxu was now well and thoroughly confused.
"I have been seeing to engine maintenance and repairs as I am tasked every 22nd cycle. What caused the loud banging just a moment ago? I had thought you were injured." Frankly, Xyloxu wasn't entirely convinced Anne wasn't injured given the wild state of the room, but she did not appear to be in pain. Didn't the manual say some humans laugh when they're in pain? No, wait. That was emotional distress, not physical.
"Oh! I've been testing whether it is possible to bust a panel off the ceiling with a homemade slingshot! Wanna try?" Anne grinned and held out a small weapon to Xyloxu that had clearly been cobbled together with bits of whatever Anne had found in the room. No way was Xyloxu touching the thing.
"I don't understand. You're goal is to damage the ship? I thought you were happy here." Their skin descended into a mottled grey.
Anne groaned. "I'm not doing any real damage. I swear I'll fix the panels when I'm done. Besides, it's perfectly safe. I'm even wearing safety glasses this time!"
Xyloxu was still confused. This time? "Then why-?"
"Ugh! I'm booored!" Anne flopped back down on the floor, slingshot skidding out of her hand and across the floor. "Nothing was working anyway."
Suddenly, she sat up and grinned brightly at Xyloxu. "Hey Xu! Wanna blow stuff up? I bet we could pull old wires for ignition." Xyloxu was beginning to associate that smile with danger. They shrank as small as their exoskeleton would allow and slowly backed out of the room.
"Maybe next time?"
Once back in the corridor, Xyloxu rushed to the nearest comms station. They would need help curing Anne's boredom before she blew a hole through the side of the ship and sucked them all out to space. Who knew humans were so dangerous? Though Xyloxu supposed on a death world like Earth, "dangerous" was always a relative term.
