fun detail in lego monkie kid that i think about a lot but nobody seemed to notice/talk about. in season 3 episode 8 where they’re collecting the 3rd ring of the samadhi fire, pigsy belts out a note that rocks the whole audience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the note ALSO temporarily stuns macaque, due to his proximity as well as the six ears

Me looking at the track record of things being sealed in this show, knowing there is a non-zero chance the seal on the Jade Emepror's power doesn't break, also knowing that Wukong has a habit of hurting himself when he feels he needs to ("Yeah well- you gotta crack a few eggs to make an omlete" "You know, and do you in the omlete story!" "Did you forget the part where I got super hurt?" *strangles 3x01 with my bear hands*):

Stuck in the Shadows With You
I have no idea what part we're on now lads, but here we go!!!
--------------
The first thing he does is take the bracelet to Zhīzhū, banking on an old favour.
Macaque visits the spider demon up in the middle of the night, and she opens the door with a bang, her hair hanging in a curtain in front of her face.
“I’m going to kill you.” She hisses out, and he laughs as he embraces her.
“Sorry for ruining your beauty sleep, your majesty.” Macaque grins, and she swats at him lazily with her cane, a dark steel coloured thing with violet webbing etched up the body.
“Not that I need more beauty, but I have eaten demons for less.” Zhīzhū huffs, running her fingers through her hair, and then gestures for him to enter.
“I’m so scared.” He follows her into her lair, and flickering green torches ignite ahead of them, illuminating the corridor.
They settle into the kitchen, him sitting on one of the stone countertops, and her lounging on one of the several stools scattered about the spacious area.
“Why are you here? Did you and Wukong finally fight? Or maybe you two-” She wiggles her eyebrows as she leans forward.
“No, not-” Macaque scowls and waves away the insinuation. “Just the fighting one.”
“Uh-huh.” Zhīzhū laughs, settling back into her stool with a smug look.
“No, no, don’t look at me like that.” He grimaces and pulls the glowing bracelet from his pocket. It warms his palm as he holds it, and already, he’s tempted to delve into the power well.
“See, I came here because of this.” The bracelet jangles in his grip, and Zhīzhū hums as her eyes narrow.
“Hmmm.” She holds out her hand, and he tosses it to her.
“This is…surprisingly new.” The spider demon tilts her head as she inspects the artifact. “Someone’s been tinkering with mixing demon and divine essence.”
“And you can tell how?” Macaque raises an eyebrow.
“I’m an alchemist, a potions master of the highest degree -”
“Alright, alright, I’m sorry I asked.”
Zhīzhū twists the bracelet between her fingers for a few more moments with a small frown before she sighs and tosses it back to him.
“As best I can tell, it’s like a power boost; a small well of energy for the wearer. But I don’t know how much is in it, and I’m… a little weary on how to suggest refilling it.” She doesn’t look at him, but rather the bracelet the entire time, something brewing behind her eyes.
“What else?” Macaque prods. He slips the bracelet on, and he can feel magic seep into his bones.
“It might be a voluntary thing…but the way the magic is contained…” She hesitates, chewing on her lip.
“I think it might be the entire essence of a few demonic and divine entities.”
“Ah. Dead people bracelet. Got it.” Macaque nods, even as a twinge of disgust drips down his spine, and Zhīzhū scowls and shakes her head.
“You idiot.” She chides.
“What? They’re already dead, and I’d rather like not to be.” He shrugs.
Her face twists, but she sighs after a few moments.
“Just be careful, I don’t know how long it’ll last,” She warns.
He grins, and with a final goodbye, slips back to his dojo.
The bracelet lasts him a week. A singular Wukong-free week of rampaging, tearing through the demon underground, repaying old favours and trying to destroy anyone who so much as breathes in MK's direction.
He's in the middle of interrogating yet another faceless whimpering demon when the bracelet flickers for the first time, and he feels his heart sink when the green light dims slightly.
"I don't know, the three eyed celestial told boss, and we-"
"Three eyed celestial?" His attention snaps back up to the demon, and his captive flinches.
“No?” The demon weakly lies, and Macaque scoffs.
“If you’re not going to talk to me, I suppose I can just call up the Monkey King and his successor, see if you won’t spill your guts to them.” Macaque says, a false sweetness coating his words, as he brushes his claws against the demon’s abdomen.
“No! No, I mean-” The demon swallows nervously, and Macaque can see beads of sweat roll down the side of his face before the demon continues.
"He…he came with his dog and told us to cause trouble, for you, for the kid, anything to distract the Monkey King from the affairs of heaven. If we did, he promised us powerful weapons and riches."
"Of course, he did." Macaque scowls and leans back, drumming his fingers on his arm.
"I can't let you leave," he decides, and the demon jerks in his chair, fruitlessly straining against his bonds before outright fainting.
"Huh." Macaque blinks, and drags the chair to his guest room and leaves the demon there, not bothering to untie him.
It's only a short trip from his dojo to the noodle shop: he's still avoiding Wukong, but he and the kid should probably still be told about Heaven's interference.
"Whaddaya want Mac?" The pig growls out, and he makes a face at MK's guardian.
"Firstly, It's Macaque. Secondly, I need to talk to the kid.” He tries and fails to not glare at Pigsy, and the chef raises an unimpressed eyebrow.
“Well, ya just missed him. He’s off on Flower Fruit Mountain, trainin’.”
“What is he even training for?” Macaque mutters, and the pig demon stiffens before advancing towards him with a ladle held threateningly.
“I might not trust Wukong on a lotta things, but his main concern is MK’s safety, and that’s more than I can say for you.” There’s a flash of tusk accompanying the statement, and Macaque just scoffs.
“I don’t have to explain myself to you,” he sneers, and steps backwards onto the shadows just to watch the glimmer of fear spark in the other’s eyes.  He emerges from the shadows on the roof of the shop across the street, sighs, and settles in for the wait.

Sincerely, if everything with the smoke monster up until the theatre play was planned, that is one heck of a coincidence that it all went exactly how he wanted, attracting exactly who he wanted AND making MK stay and follow without doing a thing, like he was about to leave the first time and the gang just HAPPENED to show up and MK just HAPPENED to keep watching and returning. You gotta give him props for this, like nobody got on his case for buying a whole theatre like his eyes should be spinning trying to work modern day forms, he sold ZERO tickets except for the gang but even just one member in the audience is enough for the show to go on- I think he just likes acting, even villainous monkeys and their evil schemes can be put on hold to extend the bit and for the fun hobby. I also wanna know why that food worker keeps showing up to work like straight up who runs this place is it all just Macky’s now 😂
he is a thespian at heart tis true

I have a genuine question: why didn’t LBD make wukong her new host? She outright said bai he was too weak so why not just transfer fully to wukong would certainly prevent any hang ups with him acting up considering how much he was struggling with just the portion of power that was in the mayor so swapping to wukong seems like a better option instead of constantly spreading herself thin when she’s been shown to be smarter then that throughout season 3 2 and actually 1 like seriously why didn’t she get into that monkey? We saw what happened when she had this
Tumblr media
so why didn’t she just log in to her new account and wreck face? Like seriously and speaking of things LBD somehow just forgot her powers apparently during her fight with Wukong and somehow got weaker then what the show had implied the entire run with The Best simian(fuck you macaque) actively seeking to kill her as fast as possible and trying to get the samadhi fire so like the fact he’s able to just wreck her shit so quickly when he went on the journey is kind of pointless and also the mech was NEVER going to need the fire LBD Expressed audible surprise when macaque filthy bastard he is snitched when she was about to deliver some karma so that’s also a plot hole nonexistent Christ I could make several fucking dissertations with the shit that didn’t make sense here if you apply rational thought

LMK headcanons because I'm bored and have things to say:
Macaque
He's been living in Wukong's house since season 2 and has no plans on leaving now that he's back. He's still upset that Wukong doesn't keep any food there.
He regularly puts on shadow plays about his trauma because he refuses to ever talk to a therapist. Nobody really goes to them anyway.
Wukong
He can read, but he doesn't keep up with how the language changes over time, so he's always slightly confused.
He mostly eats takeout because he can't be bothered to cook.
He had no idea that Macaque was back until he attacked MK. He's just been trying to play it cool.
Pigsy and Tang
They're absolutely married. On paper? No. But they might as well be.
They don't live together, so instead of making Tang sleep on the couch when he's mad, he makes him pay his tab.
Tang has the money to pay, but he'd rather push his luck because he thinks it's funny. He pays him back eventually.
Sandy
He had no idea that Pigsy had a son, and he still doesn't know that he's adopted. He finds himself just thinking about it sometimes.
He didn't really have any friends before Pigsy reached out to him again, and that's why he loves nature so much. He literally started talking to animals out of loneliness.
Mei
She would try to pick a fight with a kid if they beat her high score on Monkey Mech.
I might post more later, but these are my personal favorites.

In honor of my birthday, how do all the characters in LMK celebrate their/others birthdays?
Happy birthday! I hope its going well for you!
The only issue here is that not many of the immortal characters know their birthdays!
MK is the one who wants the "kiddie party" no matter how old he is. He wants the cake, the presents, the balloons, all the trimmings. Pigsy likely had to come up with a date (i've seen January 15th due to a note in MK's room) based on when he found MK in the canonverse.
Mei wants money and to left to her own chaos inside of an arcade/disco for a couple of hours. Sounds like what she'd do every other weekend right? WRONG. She's wearing a full flashy "birthday girl" outift with a tiara that declares her queen for the day. So you have to let her win at Monkey Mech if you're playing against her. Thats the rules.
Red Son hasn't celebrated his birthday in a long while because his dad wouldn't be there. I feel that the first birthday he truly celebrates if after the madness of S3. He wakes up to see that his mom and dad have set up a whole-all ball/gala to celebrate him. He gets overwhelmed quickly and has to hide away after an hour - MK and Mei acting as his distractions/grounding for the evening. Overwise Red Son would probably spend his birthday in his garage, probably "treating himself" to a luxury model car.
Sun Wukong and Macaque don't know what their birthdays are, so they just agree that it's the respective Solar and Lunar Solstices. Wukong in the book also identifies that he was born between 3 and 5pm (guess an older monkey told him), so I bet he waits until evening to start partying down. Mini havoc in heaven-level party on his good years. Macaque spends his birthday alone save for times he's treated to dinner by his sworn family/friends. At the end of the day they just want to spend their birthdays in eachother's arms.
Pigsy doesn't like acknowledging his birthday. Far too tied to his age. He does appreciate any bonus help around the kitchen on the day + brand new equipment as gifts though. Tang sees it as an excuse to be super PDA on the day too.
Tang becomes a "little king birthday" on his bday (mbmbam ref). He wants free noodles, he wants to be carried around, he schedules the next few days off work. He's insufferable to be around. Will take his entourage to fancy clubs and pay for their covers though.
Sandy is just delighted that people remembered! First time new friends wish him well or give him a gift, Sandy just starts crying. Loves getting new tea blends and novelty mugs. Treats himself to a day volunteering at the animal shelter.
Nezha doesn't like his birthday. Don't remind him... will enjoy a geniune personalised cake though.

yknow what i enjoy?? the different ways the staff shows up/is used in LMK
season 1: MK relies far too heavily on the staff (VERY obvious in Bad Weather, slowly becomes more balanced)
season 2: the fighting is more balanced, but he's still relying on the staff somewhat. the staff gets taken from him, along with his powers
season 3: powerless, staff-less, MK doesn't even DO a lot of fighting in this season. there are a few moments early on where there's obviously this "i am nothing without my powers/the staff", but that is quickly overpowered. only uses the staff ONCE the entire season (to summon Monkey Mech immediately after getting the staff back)
season 4: to be honest, the only time I remember the staff being actively used is twice; while fighting the Ink Demon in ep7, and briefly while fighting Azure. Outside of that, in Monkey Demon form, MK seems to lean towards hand to hand combat, which is interesting since!! He doesn't actually use that much in prior seasons outside of that one bit with Macaque in s3, and that was more of blind attacks!! (Which implies that either during s3 or post-s3, they did do training on how to fight without the staff).
sure, part of it could just be because he's going like Beast Mode (return to Monke you know), but like, wouldn't it be WILD if it was partly because when he's a monkey the staff rejects him?????? that would be insane.
anyways my prediction for season 5 is that Monkey Demon MK will snap the staff in half like a twig.

LMK OC COMPETITION - ROUND 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jade Rabbit belongs to @sarahawriter
Vervet belongs to @rae-blu
Learn more about them below the cut!!
Jade Rabbit:
This in actually an OC I created for the Jade Rabbit from mythology (so obviously a rabbit immortal with a mostly human appearance) since they weren't seen in the episode Cooking with Chang'e. Since they've been portrayed as male and female in media throughout the years, I made them gender-fluid, switching between male and female. Their job is to make pills of immortality, but over the years their alchemical skills have branched out and they have made elixirs with countless different effects by this point.
They aren't a full on villain, but she did fight with Wukong during the JTTW when they tried to kidnap Tripitaka via marriage to take some of his power when she was impersonating the Princess of India (this actually happened in the book). The reason she was impersonating the princess of India was because she was an reincarnation of a celestial who'd slapped her once, and this was Jade's form of revenge. So obviously she has issues with holding grudges and getting revenge for said grudges. Chang'e reamed them out for it afterwards though, and it is something they're trying to work on. Granted, most of that reason is to avoid more lectures from Chang'e, but progress is progress.
The main reason they tried to steal Triptaka's powers was because they don't have strong magical abilities of their own. They try to make up the difference with a plethora of elixirs and pills that can boost their abilities, as well as temporarily give them new abilities, but they do want to be able to do things like that without the assistance of elixirs. Their weapon of choice is their pestle, which they can make the size of a small staff.
Jade can be socially awkward, but that's to be expected when they literally live on the Moon and only have one person to interact with. While they may hold grudges easily, they will also go all out when it comes to helping friends or working on important projects, pulling as many all-nighters as it takes to finish it (which can sometimes blow up in their face). They also are a bit of a mechanic, having made the bunny mechs that provide security for the Moon. Jade also developed a love for photography as they're basically the camera crew for Chang'e's show.
Since they live on the Moon the only canon characters they've interacted with are Chang'e, and Wukong during the journey. Although with their existence I do imagine the MoonDuo turning into a MoonGang (and Jade and Macaque could bond over having fought Wukong while Chang'e is the only one in the gang who has a positive opinion of Wukong XD).
Vervet:
Vervet is a celestial monkey vagabond with a love for traveling around the globe. He longs to experience as many different cultures from the mortal beings of the world as he can. With his pocket-dimension like magic, he has a room in which he keeps a strikingly organised collection of everything he's ever been given in his journeying.
