There’s something weird I never noticed before. So in ASOS, Stannis tells Davos that he saw the upcoming battle against the Others in one of Melisandre’s fires.
The ashes were white, rising in the updraft, yet all at once it seemed as if they were falling. Snow, I thought. Then the sparks in the air seemed to circle, to become a ring of torches, and I was looking through the fire down on some high hill in a forest. The cinders had become men in black behind the torches, and there were shapes moving through the snow. For all the heat of the fire, I felt a cold so terrible I shivered, and when I did the sight was gone, the fire but a fire once again. But what I saw was real, I’d stake my kingdom on it.

The “men in black behind torches” seems to suggest Night’s Watchment who are in the process of confronting the Others (“shapes moving through the snow”). I think it’s quite interesting that there is a sort of Azor Ahai imagery with these men, as they hold burning torches.
But then as I was reading this passage, I was suddenly reminded of one of Patchface’s jingles.
“Under the sea, it snows up,” said the fool, “and the rain is dry as bone. I know, I know, oh, oh, oh.”

And I got to thinking, it seems that Patchface and Stannis are seeing the same thing (snow “falling” upward). Stannis also sees snow falling downwards, which kind of evokes a cycle. We don’t really know exactly what Patchface saw since the entire section contains several broken up and vague “prophecies”.
But regarding what we do know, my initial assumption was that Patchface’s jingle was essentially about death and the rising of wights. But then I also considered that he could also be referring to Jon Snow who seemingly dies at the end of ADWD and might be resurrected in TWOW.
They found Her Grace sewing by the fire, whilst her fool danced about to music only he could hear, the cowbells on his antlers clanging. “The crow, the crow,” Patchface cried when he saw Jon. “Under the sea the crows are white as snow, I know, I know, oh, oh, oh.” Princess Shireen was curled up in a window seat, her hood drawn up to hide the worst of the greyscale that had disfigured her face.

P.S: Coincidentally, Jon would (more generally) be among the men in black presented in Stannis’ vision since he is a member of the Night’s Watch; these men are also referred to as crows.
And speaking of Jon, we know that Melisandre has received visions of Jon’s death and possible rebirth.
The flames crackled softly, and in their crackling she heard the whispered name Jon Snow. His long face floated before her, limned in tongues of red and orange, appearing and disappearing again, a shadow half-seen behind a fluttering curtain. Now he was a man, now a wolf, now a man again. But the skulls were here as well, the skulls were all around him. Melisandre had seen his danger before, had tried to warn the boy of it. Enemies all around him, daggers in the dark. He would not listen.

“What do you see, my lady?” the boy asked, softly. Skulls. A thousand skulls, and the bastard boy again. Jon Snow.

Yet now she could not even seem to find her king. I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R’hllor shows me only Snow.

So Mel is seeing Jon in danger, but the “now he was a man, now a wolf, now a man again” seems to suggest that he will return. She has tried to rely this information to Jon and we get a rather funny exchange, where Jon assumes that the “snow” Mel is talking about is frozen rain.
“And what of Mance? Is he lost as well? What do your fires show?”
“The same, I fear. Only snow.”
Snow. It was snowing heavily to the south, Jon knew. Only two days’ ride from here, the kingsroad was said to be impassable. Melisandre knows that too. And to the east, a savage storm was raging on the Bay of Seals. At last report, the ragtag fleet they had assembled to rescue the free folk from Hardhome still huddled at Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, confined to port by the rough seas. “You are seeing cinders dancing in the updraft.”

Note: I searched “updraft” and got this definition: “an upward current of air.”
Jon thinks Mel is talking about the very literal snow moving upward(?) in the air, but she says,
“I am seeing skulls. And you. I see your face every time I look into the flames. The danger that I warned you of grows very close now.”
Not snow, but Snow.
And just a final (random) thought to wrap this all up,
“One bird croaking my name was bad enough,” said Jon, “and snow’s nothing a black brother wants to hear about.” Snow often meant death in the north.

Night had thrown its usual shawl over the Revenge. The darkness was blanketing, the stars were vast, and the deck was quiet…
…All except for tender voices whispering from the crow’s nest, really only reaching the desired ears.
“See that one there?” Ed asked softly.
Stede’s eyes followed his beloved’s point, gazing up towards the twinkles above.
“That one’s a giant fish,” he continued.
“It is?” Stede asked, tilting his head as he tried to make sense of the imagery. But Ed was ever-patient.
“Yeah. See—“ His gesture drifted along, tracing a path along the constellation. “That one there’s the tip of the tail. That bunch there is the body. Those are the fins…”
Through the additional guidance, Stede could begin to see it. Though, the smile that began to crawl across his face was more from admiration than the realization.
“Huh,” he breathed, “Fascinating. It’s like painting pictures in the sky.”
“It is. Useful pictures too. Help you navigate if the sky’s clear enough.”
Stede hummed in acknowledgement, but was distracted by the warm swell in his heart. He nestled a bit closer to Ed then, leaning their bodies together as he gazed upon his darling.
“What’s your favorite?”
“Constellation?” When Stede nodded, Ed softly laughed and continued, “Hell of a question, man; I like way too many. But let’s see…”
He began to ponder, began to venture his way through the sky again. And even though Stede was attentive, he wasn’t fully listening—not really. No, he was too stolen by the brilliance at his side. Why bother staring upwards when there was light seated next to him?
His chest warmed that much more, what with watching Ed talk passionately about the various shapes and pictures. He could watch it forever, watch him forever; he’d certainly found his favorite.
“—Stede, you’re not looking.”
The soft, mirthful vocals snapped him back to reality, to Ed looking at him with a grin. He went a bit bashful then, shifting against the mast. But he still opted to utter the sweetness on his tongue anyway.
“No need. All the stars pale in comparison when I’m with you.”
And yes, they certainly did; the subsequent glitter of moisture in Ed’s gorgeous eyes completely whited out the entire cosmos. He was the universe to Stede.
Ed stuttered on his inhalation, before sniffling and smiling once again.
“Did…did you really push for this just to use that on me?” he croaked.
Stede smiled then too, finally leaning forward to kiss the celestial beauty.
“Maybe so.”

Okay okay so. Thinking.
I've mapped out how I want to pay off my credit cards, which means I'll only be getting new stuff pretty sporadically, which means I need to appreciate the zero cost things in my life, like:
- the 2.5 foot tall stack of unread books I have
- the violin I might finally actually pick up again
- the 500+ drawing prompts I've been hoarding
- the list of anime I still need to watch
- the 3000+ songs in my watch later playlist
- the stickers I've been neglecting to cut
- yarn??? I have a lot of yarn
- all the pink fabric leftover from moth cosplay
- the candles and incense I also already have
In short, time to actually use the stuff that I have 😭
#though. i do want one more candle. they're putting minty smells in the winter ones and it smells cold#i need a cold smelling candle that is warm and on fire i just need that very strange contrast#but yeah!! will spend a little testing out acrylic charms but for the most part#we're gonna hang out at home for a while and express gratitude or whatever lmao#okay but i think it will actually be nice to start getting through all those books skjfkdkd#and to watch the bigger name anime to actually see them lmao; saw a lot at the con i recognized but hadn't actually watched#and also my music!! all my music bc i am clinically insane about music; miku playlist advancement...#this isn't even touching on the games i have now ksjfkf if either of you are reading this 👀 i still wanna get yall something#and I'm planning the exact day i wanna do it 😤#but yeah I'm thinking it over and am like. oh boy time for self improvement skjdkfkf#also finances will get easier bc im not ubering all over and I'm not seeing docs for my stomach now that the ulcer has been resolved#i made back half of what i spent getting the car in only 4 months and that feels good to see#it's still gonna be some hard work but we're gonna make it; I'm also highballing one of the cards#the hotel put a damages hold on my card and my math factors that in; they said that money would go back to me in 5 or so#business days so that'll be a little less to be concerned with; I'll still try to pay what numbers i found though#do it faster and do it better and idk what the fuck I'll do with the cards bc. 30% apr...........#idk i could get groceries with them and then pay them off? take that credit score you'll just eat that shit up won't you..#surprisingly my credit score hasn't taken any super ugly hits from this and i aim to keep it that way lmao#anyways. that's a lot of words to say that i want to actually use my stuff lmao#shai speaks

She’d thrown a pretty dagger on his desk instead of asking him with her words.
Jacks stared at it dumbly for a moment, then glanced back to his lover with a slight frown to his lips.
Her eyes looked dull in the study’s light, he remembered. Dull and tired. But the rest of her expression did not match the light in her eyes when she said, “I find engagement rings to be a bore. They aren’t exactly useful, are they?”
Part of him leaped upon her words, thrilled to his core, though it was nothing more than a couple crumbs of a promise. The other part of him eyed the rings decorating her hands.
If that was what she thought, then why did she wear them all the time?
His silence made her sigh, long, low, quiet.
“Do you misunderstand what I’m saying?” she asked.
He folded the letter he’d been working on—one he knew he’d never send, just as he’d never sent any of the other letters hiding in the second drawer of his desk, each marked with names of his sister, his friends, his parents—and he turned his whole body to face Chryseis.
“Are you asking me to marry you?” he asked, not daring to hope.
Jacks's eyes dig into Legend's gaze. "You're familiar with the spell put on me? A kiss poisonous to all except for my true love?"
Separated or no, Legend wasn't fond of hearing about that spell knowing it referred to Tella. "I'm well versed."
"My sister has a spell of true love on her too. Except, instead of destroying others, it hurts her. You probably have heard stories of her, I assume. The fate obsessed with romance but a garden of obsession was cultivated in its place? She's the garden. If she tries to be with anyone besides her true love, flowers grow from her throat. You saw them yourself." Jacks dares him to have some flippant response.
He does remember. How blood had splattered on the stone and entire flowers had dropped from her lips. "She told me she'd made a bargain." But it sounded flimsy as he spoke.
"She lied, idiot." Jacks bit. "She's fallen in love with you but it should go without explanation you're nowhere near being her true love, but she's too fixated on you to back off now and it's tearing her throat to shreds. Those lips you keep staring at are covered in gashes. You're doing this to her, Legend; you strung her along like all the other girls who've fallen in line for you and got her all confused in her emotions. She's been too desperate for this feeling to realize how wrong it is for her."
"I haven't been doing anything." He shot back. That argument also sounded pathetic to his own ears too though.
"You haven't? What do you call this act you've been doing? You know she wants more from you, but you're too cowardly to either return the feelings or reject her." Jacks stepped forward a few steps, getting directly in Legend's space. "But I'm telling you now that returning those feelings isn't going to benefit her. Fueling her need for this is just going to keep hurting her. Those flowers prove you aren't her true love, and I know you aren't someone who gives a shit about who is who's true love, but this is not about you, yeah? This is about her. If you do care about her in any capacity and aren't simply stringing along a naive kid, you're going to stop this and fix the mess you've made of her."
Legend hates the simple idea of submitting to Jacks, but if he's telling him the truth then the blood she'd spit bad been because of him. It was his fault he let things get as far as they have between them. He liked that light within her, the energy that made her into the spit fire that teased her brother and made Legend laugh, he liked how passionate she got; but that passion was for him and it was hurting her. He couldn't stand the idea that she was hurt. "How should I do that?" He ground it out, defeat laced in his tone.
"You are going to make her hate you, then you are going to leave. You are going to leave and take your games somewhere else, and you are going to never speak to my sister again." Each demand is driven deeper by a jab from Jacks's finger. Legend could feel his seething breath on his face. "This act is the final trick you play on Gill, understood? Then, you stay away, as far as a ship can take you from here to make sure you can't sink your teeth into her."
Legend slumped back. He ran a hand across his face. "Fine. Alright, prince of hearts; I can do that. I can have her hate me." What had she said, the first night they danced? "I'm good at games."

the fact it took me so long to finally buy and play through the quarry and it’s literally become one of my favourite games ever 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
#it’s okay though it’s spooky month best time to play it#honestly I’ve played every supermassive game AND THIS ONE IS MY FAVE!#i think it’s better than until dawn 👀👀👀👀👀#I liked that they went with horror cliches in until dawn but it for me then took away relatability and I feel like the quarry keeps it#a bit teen cliche but actually realistic like every dumb thing or joke that was said had me crying#the dialogue felt so refreshed and realistic while still being dumb but also made them relatable and feel like real characters#as opposed to caricatures which until dawn kinda ran with! which was also awesome! but I feel warm and fuzzy abt the quarry 🥹#also I wasn’t expecting it to be something as overdone as werewolves however I LOVE THAT it was something less original lmao#they also definitely did not look like werewolves and the whole transformation still felt new#and the subtle hints to moonlight like all the songs being about the moon LOVE THE DETAIL!!#okay I’m done I just thought this game was exceptional and I’m sad I’m late to the hype party I feel like the party ended a month ago 🤡#gracie talks#the quarry spoilers#the quarry

the western animation nerd in me wants to commission an editor (alas: i am broke) to edit together an amv of Taylor Swift's "Clara Bow" where
the Clara Bow section: would have a montage based off of Betty Boop. Because she was a caricature of Clara Bow (and also Baby Esther since Clara Bow copied her scat + baby-voice gimmick) and heavily influenced the infantilization of women in animation (for anyone who doesn't know: Betty Boop was purposefully designed to have a baby head and an adult woman's body to reflect her voice. infantalization in animation of women is based similarly off of "baby proportions in head" + "adult woman body" via peanut-shaped heads, big eyes, and facial spacing (space between nose and lips, a small bottom of the nose as well as a short height of nose, and many more) mixed with an adult body with breasts) Betty Boop, through globilization, famously impacted how Osamu Tezuka drew children and women (along with other influences, of course, but Betty Boop was one of them). So she impacted both Japanese animation and USA animation through trickle-down influences, but her biggest impact was probably on the iconic Ariel of the "Little Mermaid"
the Stevie Nicks section: would have a montage based off of Ariel from "The Little Mermaid". Betty Boop influence Glen Keane in his designs for her as he was trying to differ away from Disney's past princess designs (where you'll see stylization, yes, but also more adult-modeled facial structures) and one of the sources he looked for how to draw this 16 year-old girl was the design conventions (aka: infantilization) of Betty Boop, another famous teenage girl(? Betty's age is complicated and in constant flux depending in what age range best suits the story, but teenager is her classic statis) in western animation. You can see other studios start to take note of this global success, as Dreamworks changes (it's wild seeing the facial differences between "Prince of Egypt" or "El Dorado" compared to any contemporary human-female characters from the studio) and you can even see Japanese animated properties start to change away from designing adult faces in its animated women (That generalization specifically is likely be correlation and not causation, I will fully admit, but globalization of media has lead to some fascinating influences and trends). Betty Boop was the start of this animation design trend of visually infantilizing women, but Ariel is the one who really catalysted and popularized the trend. Like. To the point that you'd be hard-pressed to not be influenced by her impact of not her, or "the Disney Princess Style" directly lmao
the Taylor Swift section: I'm not sure. I waffled between several different styles and properties ("Avatar: The Last Airbender", "Frozen", Miyazaki specifically from Studio Ghibli, "How to Train Your Dragon", "Steven Universe",... I think you could make an argument for having the Taylor Swift verse just be a montage of a bunch of properties) but I think for the infantilization throughline + chronology (as "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" came out before "The Little Mermaid") + western (USA specifically) animation stylizations of how women are designed... I think I'm going to go with the "Into The Spider-Verse" series? And say to cycle that tiny final verse with shots of all the series' female characters. because it truly has changed animation as we know it. Yet it still keeps with infant baby-heads for some of its female characters. Thankfully, not all of them as I think that would've been reductive to the movie series message about "Anyone can be Spider-man"; though even all the female adults have bigger eyes than the adult males which is one of the traits of infantalization. But it makes sense for both the teen boys and teen girls to have some infantilization in their faces since they are in-between childhood and adulthood. But yeah, the infantilization is the most prominent in Gwen and Penny. But it's cool. I don't see visual infantalization as bad btw, I just see it as a design choice that I like tracking the family tree of since it's a design choice that can be done in any style lol But I'm not confident in my choice of "Spider-verse", because it's female characters are not the main characters and I kind of want that to be an over-arching theme as well. But Gwen does sell a LOT and this series has impacted the animation industry's stylization in general (and hopefully also itd depictions of women and diversity ♡). So maybe I'll change my mind, maybe I won't. But the parts with Clara Bow/Betty Boop and Stevie Nicks/Ariel? I love that part of this concept so, so much, I'm cemented on those verses, and I am on CUSP of something with this idea lmao

Some verses that tickle my brain (work in progress~ these are not fully developed lmao I'm spit-balling, i'll reblob this with new additions if i can think of any)

The di Feola/Conti vampire family holds a status within the Italian vampire world akin to nobility, right? WELL, what if we removed the 'akin' and instead go full nobility AU, this would also entail removing the vampire aspect of it all and basically turning these losers into the kinds of people Alessandro Manzoni would have killed with the plague~
Eunjae 'Vigilante'-ish AU (potential tag: the social worker;freeform;vigilante au)
Eunjae rediscovers their mind reading abilities much earlier than in canon present timeline (or simply... doesn't lose access to them at all, that's the easier option) and instead of dedicating their time to becoming a social worker and helping kids like that, they start offering their abilities to more efficient causes. They'd be that character who shows up in the background and is a little standoffish, sarcastic, a little rude, and then bam, most powerful character in the anime.
Chen & Zhijian Decay AU (potential tag: the misfortune bringer;realistic frame & the fortune bringer;realistic frame) (forgive the lack of accents, jeff blim vc I'm in a hurry-)
So, I've designed the charms' physical appearance to be stagnant, permanent, unchanging, that any attempt at changing their body in any way (cutting hair, wounds, tattoos, you name it) would simply not stick. But, what their bodies look like isn't actually what they looked like when they 'died', hehehe~ Zhijian was decapitated, Chen was impaled (straight through the heart). If their bodies were to look like they actually looked like the moment they died, Zhijian should be carrying his head around, Chen should be walking around with a hole in their chest and probably less robed considering they were wearing fine garments that definitely got snatched. So... you know, gore, horror, hehehe~
Nathaniel Fallen Angel AU (potential tag: the rotten;finally rotten;fallen au)
Nathaniel is basically a fallen angel as is, except that the status as such is not official because... well, who knows, something something mysterious ways and all that. He just 'vaguely sauntered downwards' and is fucking around, finding out. So! Fallen angel AU where his wings finally begin to decay and rot, and he walks around with this poignant stench of putrid fowl following him around and he's pissed, deranged, you name it, making him so much worse but significantly less... funny. He's funny to be, usually. Like a rat bastard babygirl.
