I MADE Y’ALL VALENTINES DAY GIFTS!! AND I START GIVING THEM TOMORROW!!

Okay, so let me explain. I made TWO x reader stories based on songs PER TURTLE BOI! They’re all sweet and fluff with maybe a little bit of pinning angst thrown in for flavor but not much. Also, I did April too because there needs to be MORE OF HER!! MORE I SAY!

I will post TWO chapters PER DAY. Starting tomorrow (Feb. 11) Up until Valentines Day (Feb. 14) for obvious reasons.

They’re all gonna be on my a03 account. But I will post the links to the stories when they’re up so you don’t have to worry if you don’t have an a03 on your own.

Uh, what else? I probably won’t post my Dread Potion story tomorrow (sorry!) just because I’m focusing on the x reader stuff and not that. But once it’s all over I promise I’ll get straight back to it!

Those weren’t all the original songs I choose. But I changed ‘em recently because I can do what I want. That is also the posting order I’m doing per day. So, obviously: Donnie, Leo, Mikey, Raph, and April. I did it from easiest to write to hardest to write. (Idea wise not personality wise)

So, uh, Donnie’s is a two part-er. But the other’s aren’t. I’m telling you this because I don’t want anyone to be confused when Leo’s or Mikey’s don’t have the continuity like Donnie’s had. Um, Donnie’s is kinda what started me making this project to being with. A lot of fan fic’s of him were coming out at the time and I got inspired. But I don’t personally ship myself with the bois so I did all of them so that why every self-shipper can have a little treat.

This was started before my Dread Potion because I wanted to do something for the fandom. Um, idk why I’m telling you this. I just, felt like I wasn’t doing enough. Especially compared to all the amazing fanarts and the fantastic fanfics so many of you guys made!

Not to say this is only for them! This is also for the people who just, enjoy it, ya know. Whether you re-blog stories or art cause you like them. Or just leave a kudos or a heart. This is for you too! I can’t tell you how much it means as a creator to get that, it doesn’t seem like much, but it is!

Uh, I don’t know where I was going with this. But I hope you guys like ‘em when you see ‘em! This has been *counts on fingers* four months in the making! So I hope I do ya justice!!

Previous chapter

Y/N sat in the hospital bed staring at the wall in front of her. Nikki sat beside her holding one of her hands in his. He was thankful not only for Dr. Kelly’s calm and reassuring demeanor, but that she was able to get Y/N an epidural so that Y/N went from screaming and cursing everyone out to basically buddha.

“You know I’m not actually going to have your balls snipped, right?” she said, turning to him.

Nikki grinned, holding back laughter. “I do, yeah.”

She drew a long sigh. “So you actually got the band back together?”

“Yeah, I did.” He pulled his lips back. “I wasn’t ready.”

“Ready for what?”

“To lose the guys for good, to say good bye to Mötley Crüe.”

Y/N smiled as she pulled her hand back to stroke his face. “Well, I’m really happy you guys are back together, even if it’s on the day our child is born.”

“And I’m sorry I took longer than I said I would.”

She waved her hand. “It is what it is.”

“But you’re gonna hold it-.”

“Oh, I’m gonna hold it against you for as long as you live.” Y/N sighed as her head fell back against the pillow. “I don’t know if I can do this.”

“You can.”

“You don’t know what I’m talking about.”

“I don’t have to.” He held her hands in his. “There’s not a single doubt in my mind you can give birth and be best the goddamn mother to our child. You moved to Los Angeles by yourself. You lived in a shitty neighborhood. You lived with four of the most fucked up individuals in a cramped apartment and you took care of each of them. You worked and toured with a rock band. Fuck, you went on tour with Ozzy fucking Osborne.You wrote songs for bands and artists. You dealt with my drug habits. You have done and been through so many things you were not prepared for and look where it got you.”

One of his hands let go of hers to stroke her hair. “Besides, I’m going to be with you every step of the way. You and I are a team. Always have been and always will be.”

Y/N’s eyes filled with tears as she pursed her lips back. “Jesus Christ, Nikki,” she laughed, wiping her tears. She leaned over and gently pecked his lips. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

The sound of the door opening caused the couple to jump, believing a doctor or nurse would be hurrying in to get her started on pushing.

Instead, Tommy waltzed right in with Vince and Mick not too far behind. Tommy lowered the surgeon’s mask, revealing his devilish grin.

“Alright, Mrs. Sixx, you ready to push?” Tommy greeted in a deep, phony voice.

Y/N blinked. “Let me guess, you’re the one they call Doctor Feel Good?”

“I could be.”

She rolled her eyes. “Remind me to never ask you to babysit.”

Tommy snapped his fingers. “Well there goes my gift to you guys.”

Just then, the nurse poked her head in giving a warm smile. “How are you guys doing in here? Everything ok?”

“We’re doing ok,” Y/N answered.

Tommy stared at the blonde, lust in his eyes. “You’re their nurse, huh?”

Y/N threw her hands up as Nikki watched amusingly. The nurse blushed, desperately trying to hide her smile.

“I’ll check in on you guys later,” she said, closing the door.

Once she was gone, Tommy whistled. “I’d like her to be my nurse.”

He then made his way toward the door. “I’ll be back to check on you guys later.”

The second he closed the door, Y/N turned to Nikki. “Well there goes our nurse.”

“You doing ok?” Mick asked.

“The epidural helps,” Y/N smiled. “I’m glad you guys are back together again. I think the world could use some more Mötley Crüe.”

Mick raised an eyebrow. “I don’t know about that.”

Just then, Vince stepped up. “I do. I think the world is ready.”

“And what about you?” Y/N asked, tilting her head. “Are you ready?”

Vince nodded when he realized something. “I actually have a present for the kid.”

He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a stuffed brown bunny with a yellow bow around its neck. Y/N’s heart melted as she accepted his gift. “Oh Vince.”

“Skylar really loved her bunny,” Vince choked. “I figured your little one will too.”

Y/N smiled as she took Vince’s hand. “I love it. Thank you.”

Nikki stood up and patted Vince’s shoulder. “We appreciate it, man. It’s perfect.”

Vince smiled, trying to fight back the tears that came with the memory of his little girl. “It’s not a problem.”

Mick sighed. “Well, we’ll leave you guys to it. We can’t meet the little rugrat.”

He motioned for him and Vince to head out as Nikki and Y/N watched them walk out the door. Once they left, Y/N put the bunny on the table next to her.

“They know the baby is coming on tour, right?” Y/N asked.

“Let’s hold off on telling them.”

A few hours later, just after midnight, as Y/N and Nikki watched a rerun of “The Twilight Zone” on the television, Y/N sat up and whimpered and clutched her belly. Nikki grabbed the call button, pushing it over and over until the nurses came in followed by Dr. Kelly.

“It’s time, Y/N,” Dr. Kelly said. “You ready?”

Y/N looked to Nikki, who gave her a reassuring smile. She nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, I am.”

Minutes later, beads of sweet trickled down her face as she pushed. Her hand squeezed Nikki’s, as she closed her eyes tightly, pushing harder.

“You’ve got this, Y/N,” Dr. Kelly assured. “Keep pushing.

Y/N gave one last push before crying out, “I can’t do this!”

“Hey, hey, hey look at me,” Nikki said. Y/N turned to him, her eyes filled to the brim with tears. “Remember what I told you? You can do this. I know you can.”

She nodded and closed her eyes, pushing once again. No matter how much she wanted to give up, no matter how much pain she was in, she pushed and pushed and pushed until she heard the sweetest sound.

Their baby was crying.

Nikki kissedY/N. “I am so proud of you.”

Dr. Kelly gently cradled the baby, lifting it up. “Congrats Mom and Dad, it’s a girl.”

“Oh my god,” Y/N whimpered as tears fell down her face.

Nikki squeezed her hand, unable to fight back tears.

Dr. Kelly cut the umbilical chord and handed the baby to Y/N. Y/N cradled the her in her arms as the baby wailed and wailed.

“She’s beautiful,” Dr. Kelly marveled. “Congrats you two.”

“She really is,” Nikki agreed, his thumb stroking his daughter’s head.

When Y/N handed the baby to the nurse so the nurse could measure her, Y/N grabbed Nikki’s hand.

“We really did it,” she said.

He nodded. “I told you you could do it. Never doubted it for a second.”

An hour later, they finally had the baby and the room to themselves. Nikki laid beside Y/N in the bed as Y/N cradled their newborn daughter who was fast asleep.

“She’s perfect,” she whispered.

“She really is,” he agreed as he stroked his daughter’s head. “What are we thinking for in terms of names?”

Y/N lifted her head up. “I was thinking Odette. It was my grandmother’s name and I always thought it was such a beautiful name.”

“Odette Sixx,” Nikki said aloud, thinking about it. He smiled. “It’s perfect.”

Just then, the blonde nurse from earlier entered the room with two styrofoam cups and a styrofoam to-go box.

“One of your friends from earlier stopped by to give you this,” she said putting it on the tray beside Y/N. She then pulled out a note from her pocket and handed it to Y/N who handed it to Nikki.

Nikki opened it and read it aloud.

“ ‘Your friends stopped by for some food and told me about the baby. Figured you two would want your usual late night snack - two Cokes and some buttered white toast. Glad things worked out for you guys. Stop by sometime with the baby. Love, Dottie.’”

Y/N smiled. “Oh how sweet of her.”

“Right on time too,” Nikki said. “I’m starving.”

The nurse put the tray in front of her and Nikki. Y/N set the baby down in the hospital bassinet right beside the bed as the baby continued to sleep.

Both Y/N and Nikki began digging in to their toast.

“I forgot how good Donny’s bread was,” Nikki said taking a sip of his Coke.

“This was heaven for us back in the day,” Y/N added, her mouth filled with food. “We’d go to one of your shows and then go to Donny’s and get this. Always the perfect way to end the night.” She eyed Nikki. “And this is the perfect way to end a perfect night.”

She leaned her head on Nikki’s shoulder as he kissed the top of her head.

When Y/N fell asleep, Nikki held his daughter in his arms as he looked out the window. He pointed to Donny’s off in the distance.

“That’s where I met your mom,” he whispered to his baby girl. “First time I saw her I couldn’t look away...and neither could she. She’ll tell you she played it off well, but that’s not true.”

Nikki’s went up from Odette to the view of the city. “She loved me when I had nothing, loved me when no one else did. Even we had nothing, I always had her...and I always will.”

His eyes then fell to the familiar telephone pole. He swallowed hard, remembering the time he used it to call his father only to be rejected. He glanced down at Odette.

“You will always be loved,” he told her, softly choking up. “I will always love you, no matter what. When you need me the most, I’ll be there. I promise you.”

He had no idea, but Y/N had heard his declaration to his daughter and smiled to herself.

*Two Years Later*

“Five minutes, Sixx!”

“Thanks,” Sixx called out to the stagehand on the other side of the door. He turned to Odette who was playing with her favorite stuffed bunny in her lap. “Time to go to your, Mom.”

Y/N held out her arms as Nikki handed Odette over to her. “You have the headphones, right?”

“I do,” Y/N sighed. She then winced, placing her hand on her pregnant stomach.

“Everything alright?” Nikki asked, placing his hand instinctively over her stomach.

“Yeah, just your son is kicking me. Why he does this every time you’re about to go on stage is beyond me.”

He chuckled. “I think he’s gonna be a musician.”

“God help us if that’s the case.”

Nikki leaned down to Odette. “Give Daddy a good luck kiss?”

Odette giggled as Nikki peppered her with tiny kisses. He then went up to Y/N and kissed her. “I’ll see you out there?”

“Right by the stage,” Y/N assured.

He gave her one last peck. “I love you.”

“Love you too.”

He then walked out as Y/N put Odette on the makeup table and put the headphones on the baby.

“You ready to go?” she asked.

The baby chortled, smiling widely. Y/N picked her up and held in her arms as she headed out.

She and Odette stood by the wing of the stage. The crowd roared in applause as the lights hit on the boys and the introduction to “Shout at the Devil” began to play.

Odette reached out to her daddy, smiling. Nikki looked over and gave her a little wave.

Most babies wouldn’t be able to handle the music, but Odette Sixx was not most babies. She loved it, smiling at her dad and their friends as they played. Y/N smiled, watching her daughter have the time of her life.

She also loved how her soon-to-be son also kicked the second he heard the music play.

*2015*

“Do you think the message within songs you wrote all those years ago still hold up today?” the female reporter asked.

Y/N nodded her head as she took a swig of her water. “I’d like to think so. I mean, there will always be a million different ways to talk about love or heartbreak or anger. The wording of it just may be different, that’s all.”

Y/N was thrilled. 30 years after her disastrous Rolling Stone Magazine interview, a reporter with the magazine wanted to do a redo. So far, the reporter was asking all the questions Y/N wished she’d been asked.

“Mom, you’ve gotta come out here!” Odette exclaimed.

Y/N sent an apologetic look to the reporter. “Give me one sec.” She then turned to her 20-year-daughter. “Are you and or your brother hurt?”

“No.”

“Is your dad hurt?”

“No but he needs you right now!”

“He’s in the middle of performing. What does he need?”

“It’s an emergency!”

“Can’t the stagehands-.”

“He needs you, Mom!”

Y/N sighed and got up from the couch. “Excuse me one second.”

“Actually you should come with us,” Odette told the reporter.

“Odette-.”

“Just come on! Hurry!”

Y/N followed her daughter through the hallway and to the backstage area. The reporter followed close behind.

“I apologize for the interruption,” Y/N said, looking over her shoulder. “Do you have kids?”

“Not at the moment.”

“They get less cuter when they get older.”

Odette whipped her head. “I beg to differ. Ryland and I are still pretty damn cute.”

“Language!” Y/N snapped. She turned to the reporter again. “Like I said, they’re less cute when they’re older.”

The reporter chuckled as Odette rolled her eyes.

The cheers of the packed crowd got louder and louder as Odette brought Y/N to the wing area.

“So tonight is a very special night,” Vince said to the crowd. “It’s our good friend, Y/N’s birthday.”

Y/N rolled her eyes as the crowd roared in applause. Vince motioned to Nikki. “Bring your wife out here, man.”

Odette pushed Y/N to Nikki, who extended a hand out for his wife. The crowd cheered loudly as Y/N got on stage. Her stomach twisted into knots, face turning red as Nikki kept one arm around her waist. She kept her eyes on him afraid to look at the crowd.

“Why are you doing this?” she whispered to him.

“You’ll see,” he said, pecking her cheek.

“Let’s all sing her ‘Happy Birthday’, ok?” Vince told the crowd. “One, two, three..”

As Vince, Mick, Tommy, Nikki, and the crowd sang ‘Happy Birthday’, Odette wheeled out a large cake with ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY Y/N’ written on it.

Y/N’s face turned every shade of red as Nikki kissed her cheek. Once the crowd finished singing, Y/N kissed Nikki, hugged her daughter, and blew out the candles. The crowd cheered.

“While that was a great surprise,” Nikki said into the mic, “we do have one more surprise for you.” He turned to the crowd. “This next song was written by my lovely wife years and years ago. We told her to go get us breakfast because we had been in the studio all night and instead, she came back with this amazing song. Here to help us play it tonight, ladies and gentleman put your hands together for my son, Ryland!”

Ryland walked on the stage with his guitar, giving the crowd a wave. He gave Y/N a side hug. Y/N kissed the top of her son’s head as Nikki gave him a pat on the shoulder.

“You ready?” Vince asked.

Ryland nodded.

“One, two, three...”

The 18-year-old then began to play the opening guitar solo to “Shout at the Devil”, causing Y/N’s heart to drop to her stomach. She slapped her hand on her mouth, proud tears escaping her eyes.

The rest of the band joined as Vince handed Ryland the mic, Ryland belting out the first verse.

He's the wolf screaming lonely in the night He's the blood stain on the stage He's the tear in your eye Been tempted by his lie He's the knife in your back, he's rage He's the razor to the knife Oh, lonely is our lives My head's spinning 'round and 'round But in the seasons of wither We'll stand and deliver Be strong and laugh and

The band, the crowd, Odette, and Y/N joined in to scream “SHOUT, SHOUT, SHOUT, SHOUT AT THE DEVIL!”

Once the song was over and the crowd erupted in thunderous applause, Y/N grabbed Ryland and hugged him tightly before going over to Nikki.

“Happy Birthday, babe,” he mumbled.

She caressed his face and kissed him deeply as his hands fell to her waist.

They’d come a long way from those days on the sunset strip, but not a second went by where neither Y/N nor Nikki weren’t grateful for them. Nikki had gotten the family he’d always wanted and Y/N had gotten the life she’d dreamed of and more.

And if it were to all come crashing down, it would still be ok. Nikki and Y/N had each other and at the end of the day, that’s all that mattered.

TWD 10x05: What It Always Is - First Thoughts

I originally started writing a ginormous post and the realized that I would need to break it into two: first thoughts and details. The bigger one, of course, will be Details, and I’ll post that on Tuesday. Today, I’m just going to give a few thoughts on broader arcs and, of course, the Donnie stuff.

***As always, spoilers abound below for 10x05. Don’t read until you’ve watched!!!***

There were five major sections here: the opening sequence with Kelly, Negan/Brandon, Aaron/Gamma/Alpha, Ezekiel, and Magna/Connie/Daryl.

Kelly/Opening Sequence:

The opening sequence with Kelly definitely has some TD symbolism in it, which I’ll get into more tomorrow. I was right that Kelly didn’t die here, but I do think this foreshadows something bigger down the road.

There’s all the Beth-ish symbolism, which suggests it may foreshadow something to do with Beth, or be a parallel to Beth in some way. But there’s also missing stuff that we didn’t see. I had to watch it more than once to catch this, but in the opening sequence, we see Kelly sit down against a boulder, and a walker reaches out for her.

When Daryl, Magna, and Connie find her, she’s sitting against a tree, and we don’t know what actually happened with that walker. The assumption is that she fought it off and kept running, falling down by the tree a little ways away. But still, there’s stuff there we didn’t actually witness, which I think is significant. I still think the walker reaching for her foreshadows her being taken by the Whisperers in some form.

Negan/Brandon:

So in terms of the arc, this definitely leads to Negan going to the Whisperers camp. That follows the CBs, and we figured this would happen. As I’ve said many times, I’m glad to see this because I think something about Negan’s arc here will lead to Beth.

The first thing we saw was Negan near some water. Brandon obviously idolizes Negan and keeps trying to be the perfect Savior to impress him. I think at least part of this, where Negan is concerned, had to do with him realizing he doesn’t want that way of life anymore. He likes TF’s way of life better. In the CBs, he goes to the Whisperers camp to prove his loyalty to Rick, and it seems to me like they’re doing something similar in the show. After Brandon kills Milo—who I think reminded Negan of Carl—he decides he wants to go back, but knows he won’t be welcome unless he proves his loyalty. So he’s off to the Whisperer camp.

And how about the school bus? It’s mostly GREEN with red and blue stripes on it.

They honestly focused way more on the kid, Milo, than on the Mom, Amelia. I had to sit and think about the bus symbol for a bit, though. I kind of realized that I don’t have a specific meaning for the bus. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done several theories on school buses (X) and I know it’s related to Beth’s arc, or at least the death fake out arcs. But what does it specifically stand for? I’m not sure. Looking at how it’s functioned, this is what I came up with.

I thought it might stand for something that SHOULD have saved people, but didn’t. In 4a, lots of people left the prison on the bus when it went down. It was their escape plan. But they all died anyway. Similarly, in 5x05, Abraham and co were on the short bus, which should have carried them a ways safely, but it crashed.

You could also argue that someone who was SUPPOSED to die on the bus, didn’t. In S4, that would have been Glenn. Maggie left him on the bus and thought he was on it, but he got off and she didn’t realize. Similarly, as bad as the crash in 5x05 was, it’s kind of amazing no one died or even sustained serious injuries.

So what about this scene with Negan? I’m not sure. He saved Amelia and Milo, which means they should have lived. But Brandon killed them, and they died. So if anything, it’s kind of the opposite of what we’ve seen elsewhere. So I’m not entirely sure what to make of this yet. I know I say this a lot, but it will probably make more sense when we understand more of where Negan’s arc is going.

I’m wondering if he’ll somehow rescue Beth or some other kids from some kind of situation represented by the bus. He also made a big deal about how he would never kill a kid. That was partly to make him a foil to Brandon, who was obviously mildly homicidal. But I also think that’s a foreshadowing that we’ll see him protecting kids at some point in the future. We’ve already seen him save/protect Judith. I’ll we’ll see it again with either her or others So, I’ll keep an eye on this moving forward.

Aaron/Gamma/Alpha:

This actually starts with Aaron. He’s practicing his weaponry on a bridge, which is kind of interesting. He doesn’t fall off of it, so it’s not exactly foreshadowing a death fake out for him. But I think he’ll be taken from the community (represented by the bridge) in some way. At this part, we also saw a spiders web near him. (Yes, I know this pic is super blurry. I couldn’t get a decent shot of the spiders web. It went by too fast. The blur at the top left is the spider.)

I think I mentioned this before, but the spider is symbol for Alpha. Siddiq hallucinated a spider synonymously with reliving the be-headings in 10x01. He saw the spider and then saw Alpha in the barn with the machete. Since then, I’ve noticed spiders or spider’s webs several times just before something happened with the Whisperers.

So here, I would have said that Aaron would end up with the Whisperers at some point. Like, maybe this represented that they’d take him from his community. Well, we got confirmation before the end of the episode that at least Alpha wants to do this. She tells Gamma that Aaron might be useful. So I’ve said that I think some people will be taken captive and/or taken somewhere by Alpha. I’m mostly focused on Connie for that, which I’ll talk more about in a minute, but I’ve toyed with the idea of Aaron being involved. Mostly because Rick gave him Gracie in S8, which I think a foreshadow of something else.

Yeah, I think it’s safe to say he’ll be involved somehow. But I think all the associations are important here. Let’s talk about Gamma poisoning the water.

I said that the satellite falling represented Wormwood, which poisons all the water. So after it fell, the water would start being poisoned. And what do you know? Only a few episodes later, Gamma is trying to poison the water.

I honestly don’t know if this is the endgame for the “bad water” symbolism. Maybe, but it seems like kind of small potatoes, so it may only be one small portion of the symbolism. Or it may foreshadow something much bigger down the road.

But in terms of associations, we had Aaron seeing the poisoning happening, and then approach Gamma when she got hurt. That feels like a foreshadow of a much bigger arc for him that has to do with the poisoned water and the Whisperers.

Also, despite what she says, Gamma seems to be having some trouble processing her sister’s death. She’s having an almost Siddiq-like PTSD reaction to it now, which is how she hurt her hand to begin with.

In the Whisperer camp, we learn that they’re damning up the creek and trying to poison the water in order to crush TF. Again, I’m not convinced this is the endgame of the bad water stuff, but it’s interesting, and will definitely play into it.

Ezekiel:

Yeah, he has thyroid cancer. So all the theories about him being sick were true. But so was what we said: if he has cancer, maybe it can be treated with radiation. Guess what, guys? There’s basically not an easier cancer to treat than thyroid cancer. As they said in the episode, it has a 98% survival rate in our world. And that’s important. If they were just going to do a tragic death for him, because TF no longer has the medical resources in the apocalypse that they would have had in the old world, they wouldn’t be so heavily emphasizing that this type of cancer used to be survivable.

There are two major treatments for this type of cancer. Removal of the lump, and radiation. That’s pretty much it. And I’m sure most of you saw the spoilers this past week that TWD was filming in downtown Atlanta again, including filming people with white lab coats that looked a lot like doctors and even walkers wearing police uniforms. (Grady anyone?) So whether it’s actually Grady or just something very similar to them, I think our theories about Zeke’s cancer being treated with radiation are right on track.

Daryl/Connie/Magna:

Yeah, Magna is definitely spiraling. They had an interesting conversation between her and Yumiko. It sounds like Magna was in prison for killing someone who killed her cousin. Yumiko thought she didn’t actually do it, but Magna admitted that she did. Yeah, that’s kind of a problem. I’m sure the guy who killed her cousin deserved it, but it also shows that she’s willing to go vigilante if she feels she’s being treated unfairly, as also evidenced by her stealing supplies. So it will be interesting to see how this progresses, but I have a feeling we’re headed for catastrophe.

Next, on the Donnie stuff (or lack thereof). I’ve already addressed this somewhat, but I’ll say what I’ve already told my group and my fellow theorists.

I’m usually prepared for what small potatoes the Donnie or Caryl stuff is compared to what a big deal the shippers make about it. But this seemed more ridiculous to me than most other instances. Like, there was really, REALLY nothing there.

The scene everyone freaked out about where he told her the Merle story and clasped her hand? The thing I didn’t connect is that they weren’t even alone at that point. Magna was out with them, which the spoilers mentioned, but I just didn’t internalize it. So while Daryl is telling Connie that story, Magna is standing like ten feet away. She’s just not in the shot. (Okay, probably more than ten feet, but you get my meaning.)

There was definitely some Beth symbolism in there, which I’ll go over tomorrow. But I think something this clip is trying to show is how much more effectively Daryl interacts with people now. I noticed this and started thinking about it last week with Lydia. He’s been more touchy with everyone—Lydia, Michonne, Carol, of course—and obviously he’s not in love with all of them (which shows, by extension, that he’s not in love with any of them). While there’s obviously some huge symbolism and Beth vibes in this scene, I also feel like there are literal/plot take always here. Beth taught Daryl how to interact with people. Not only through touch but through sharing personal stories. There is a moment in this scene where Connie is upset and blaming herself and you see Daryl think about it for a minute before following her and launching into his story. I feel like he might have been thinking about Beth in that moment and how him telling her a story about Merle not only helped them connect but helped her feel better about her situation and stop blaming herself, so he did the same with Connie. And it worked. I also think it hearkens back to what Norman and the writers always say about Daryl’s feelings for Beth: that he didn’t understand them. By extension, he wouldn’t have had the first idea how to express them. I think this is the way they’re showing his emotional growth. So when Beth returns, he WILL recognize his own feelings and WILL be able to express them.

One more thing? Remember that every long term, soul mate couple we’ve seen on the show has done the intertwined fingers. The camera focused on him clasping Connie’s hand and they specifically DIDN’T intertwine their fingers. That’s as big and purposeful a statement as anything. This was their chance to foreshadow romance, and they very purposefully didn’t do it.

This is becoming a very close friendship, and I thought this scene was very sweet. It’s a healthy relationship—much like the one he has with Michonne, and far healthier than the one he has with Carol—but this scene specifically told us that’s it’s not heading in the romance direction. If it were, we would have seen a different kind of hand hold.

Then there’s the end scene. Connie apologizes to Daryl for asking him to lie for Magna (about her stealing the supplies). He shrugs it off and says, “Family, right?” She smiles and then points to him and then herself (You and me) and makes the sign for family as well. Then Daryl smiles.

So it’s cute and sweet. But I think it’s important because, now that she’s said that, I think we all know Daryl would do anything for her. Just like Carol or Michonne or Aaron or anyone else, if something happens to her, or to anyone she cares about (such as Magna’s group) you know he’ll be right there to help. So they’re setting this up pretty much exactly as I thought they would.

(Notice that she doesn’t say, you and me, lovers! 😆) Also, Daryl leaves at the end. So once again he’ll be at Alexandria and she’ll be at Hilltop. Yeah, that’s what people who are in love and want to spend their lives together act. Okay, I’ll stop with the sarcasm.

My point is that this puts them squarely in the friend zone. This is what I mentioned the other day when I said the writers pretty much confirm this to be a familial, rather than romantic bond. I still think it’s possible that Connie harbors some feelings for Daryl, but this, combined with the lack of entwined fingers, means it will never be more than friendship.

I also want to point out that this entire conversation happened right next to Daryl’s motorcycle, which might be a foreshadow of something. 😉 (My theory about him and Carol leaving together on the motorcycle to find Connie.)

A Walk Through Hell #12 concludes what has been an excellent horror tale from Garth Ennis, Goran Sudžuka, Ive Svorcina, and Rob Steen with another trip into existential terror as we’re given a glimpse of what this is all about and what’s coming.

Action Comics #1013 keeps a lot of plates spinning as it works through elements of “Year of the Villain”, Event Leviathan, the ongoing Invisible Mafia story thread, and the Rose and Thorn revival. It’s kind of impressive as to how it remains entertaining and engrossing with as much going on.

Age of Conan: Bêlit #5 is another ending this week, as we finish off Bêlit’s coming of age origin story, as she confronts the Stygian priest and lays claim to her title of Queen of the Black Coast. Great art from Kate Niemczyk, Scott Hanna, Andrea Di Vito, and Jason Keith.

Amazing Spider-Man #26 introduces us to the new Sinister Syndicate fully as they plan an attack on Boomerang. It’s kind of funny to see him still getting into trouble even now that he’s trying to stay legit. Great art from Kev Walker and Laura Martin.

Ascender #4 gives us a few surprises in the fight between the vampires and the resistance. The grey washes, with mixes of red, from Dustin Nguyen on the vampire’s throneworld is very impressive.

Batgirl #37 launches the new creative team of Cecil Castellucci, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Jordie Bellaire, and AndWorld Design with part one of “Oracle Rising”. There’s a nice battle with Killer Moth, emphasizing what some villains are doing in order to try to get noticed by Luthor to receive the offer, while playing up the expense that goes into crimefighting. Also, the Terrible Trio unleash something probably not too good.

Dark Red #5 concludes the first arc as Chip and Evie try to fight off an army of Nazi vampires. It’s good, with some nice funny moments. Great art from Corin Howell and Mark Englert.

Detective Comics #1008 is a straight-forward single issue story of Batman and Joker at the circus from Peter J. Tomasi, Doug Mahnke, Jaime Mendoza, Dave Baron, and Rob Leigh. It’s a refreshing change of pace from the extended arcs, even as it sets up a new threat in the “Year of the Villain” offering.

Dial H for Hero #5 gets a little meta as we dive into the Multiverse, the Heroverse, and the Bleed from Sam Humphries, Joe Quinones, Scott Hanna, Jordan Gibson, and Dave Sharpe. The use of breaking through panels, reproductions of old comics scenes, and a variation of styles just deliver phenomenal storytelling.

Dungeons & Dragons: A Darkened Wish #2 continues to fill in the backstory of the adventurers’ time with the White Sails, introducing us to the pitfalls that harried them, before giving more hints in the present of the nightmare that tore them apart. B. Dave Walters, Tess Fowler, Jay Fotos, and Neil Uyetake are delivering an entertaining fantasy tale here.

Fearless #1 is a new three-issue anthology mini-series spotlighting a number of the women of Marvel, both characters and creative talent. This first issue leads off with a continuing lead feature from Seanan McGuire, Claire Roe, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Janice Chiang, as Sue Richards, Carol Danvers, and Storm prepare to visit a girls camp as motivational speakers. There’s also an entertaining Mille the Model back-up from Leah Williams, Nina Vakueva, Rosenberg, and Chiang. And a very funny Jessica Jones story from the Captain Marvel team of Kelly Thompson, Carmen Carnero, Tamra Bonvillain, with Chiang. Though short, that last story is pretty much worth the price of the issue alone.

Five Years #3 sees Tambi meet with Ivy and Julie to discuss that various nations around the world are dangerously developing Phi-alloy technology. Also a surprise appearance of people we thought were out. Great art as always from Terry Moore.

The Flash #75 delivers three stories for this extra-sized anniversary issue. The lead concludes the “Year One” arc. This is some of the best art that I have ever seen from Howard Porter, he and Hi-Fi just deliver amazing artwork here. There are also two back-ups, one hinting at things to come in the future for Barry and the other tying in to “Year of the Villain” as Captain Cold receives Luthor’s offer.

Guardians of the Galaxy #7 begins the second arc, “Faithless”, from Donny Cates, Cory Smith, David Curiel, and Cory Petit. It really introduces us to the new Universal Church of Truth as they take out an entire squadron of the Nova Corps and then worse things happen as the Guardians go off to investigate. I love the name for the Guardians’ new ship and that final page is one hell of a shock.

History of the Marvel Universe #1 is an interesting project from Mark Waid, Javier Rodríguez, Álvaro López, and Joe Caramagna. It’s framed as Galactus telling Franklin Richards (at least I think that’s Franklin Richards) the history of the universe before it dies and the next is reborn. As expected, it’s dry facts, but it’s fascinating in how it’s comprehensively presented and the artwork from Rodríguez and López is jaw-dropping gorgeous. There are also annotations in the back to show where these events come from. It’s well put together and I highly recommended it to die-hard Marvel fans.

Invisible Kingdom #5 concludes the first arc with an almost entirely one-sided battle between the Sun Dog and a Lux battleship. G. Willow Wilson, Christian Ward, and Sal Cipriano elevate the tension nicely through this issue and give a few surprises when everything seems grim and it looks like the end.

Killer Groove #3 wonderfully showcases one of Jackie’s cases as it intertwines with the music scene and criminal underworld. Ollie Masters, Eoin Marron, Jordie Bellaire, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou are doing a nice job with this series of crafting one larger story out of many separate smaller tales.

Lazarus: Risen #2 is another dense read. The series has always been hefty, but this new format has elevated things further, doubling up comics content and adding a prose short story, the letters pages, and extra content like gaming material and the usual in-world advertisements. I’m loving it. Greg Rucka, Michael Lark, Tyler Boss, Santi Arcas, Simon Bowland, Adam Christopher, and Crystal Frasier are definitely giving you your money’s worth and more here. Excellent comics content as the war between Carlyle and Morray/D’Souza heats up.

Livewire #8 pits Amanda versus Jada for a final round. It’s still interesting how practically everyone is trying to portray Amanda’s actions as harmful and villainous. Great art from Kano.

Martian Manhunter #7 sees J’onn and Diane uncover some of the results of the experiments that have been going on with the kidnapped and missing people, it’s horrifying. Incredible and haunting artwork in this one from Riley Rossmo and Ivan Plascencia.

Marvels: Epilogue is a short, but sweet, coda to the Marvels series from Kurt Busiek, Alex Ross, John Roshell, and Richard Starkings. It spotlights events from X-Men #98 through the eyes of Phil Sheldon and his daughters, capturing some of the awe, wonder, and terror that Sheldon experienced during the main series. The book is filled out with an interview with Busiek and Ross on their experience with the series and what it’s like to look back on it 25 years later, as well as interviews with the editors who worked on the book.

Middlewest #9 sets out a new quest for Abel as he comes across the Nowak people. Skottie Young, Jorge Corona, Jean-Francois Beaulieu, and Nate Piekos are continuing to make magic with this series. The art is beautiful and the story is endlessly captivating.

Psi-Lords #2 continues to investigate these four captives, changed for whatever reason by the Psi-Lords, and the habitat of their prison. An interesting jail hierarchy of gangs is revealed and a bit of a memory of the four’s lives before being captured. Gorgeous art from Renato Guedes.

Star Pig #1 is weird. Very weird. Delilah S. Dawson, Francesco Gaston, Sebastian Cheng, and Shawn Lee give us the story of a kid on her way to space camp whose ship is struck and destroyed by an asteroid, saved by a space pig and a scavenger energy ball. It’s probably one of the more unique tales I’ve seen in a while.

Sword Master #1, like Aero before it, features two stories. In the first, Greg Pak adapts into English a tale from Shuizhu and Gunji of the titular hero, Lin Lie, and his quest to find his missing father. It’s an interesting start and the artwork from Gunji is gorgeous. The back up original story pairs Shang-Chi up with Lin in a story from Greg Pak, Ario Anindito, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Travis Lanham. It follows up on their appearance in the New Agents of Atlas tie-in to “War of the Realms” and presents an interesting antagonist on their trail.

Valkyrie #1 is a wonderful debut from Jason Aaron, Al Ewing, CAFU, Jesus Aburtov, and Joe Sabino. We get some continued supporting cast from Jane Foster’s time as Thor, although with a new status quo, and an interesting hook in trying to track down Dragonfang, the former Valkyrie’s sword. The art from CAFU and Aburtov is beautiful.

Warlord of Mars Attacks #2 continues this crossover of John Carter and Mars Attacks. It’s interesting how it incorporates Edgar Rice Burroughs’ stories as actual things in this world and explains how Mars as a dead planet and one as teeming with life as Barsoom could exist simultaneously.

The Weatherman Vol. 2 #2 gives us more of a look at the nightmare that has consumed Earth as the crew attempt to find the doctor who might be able to fix everything. It goes about as well as could be expected. The monster designs and execution from Nathan Fox and Moreno Dinisio are incredible.

Web of Venom: Funeral Pyre #1 is another one-shot catching up on the wider world of Venom as we barrel headlong into Absolute Carnage. Cullen Bunn, Joshua Cassara, Alberto Alburquerque, Jay David Ramos, and Clayton Cowles give us a great story checking in with Andi Benton, the former Mania and occasional sidekick to Flash Thompson’s Venom.

Wonder Woman #75 continues “Return of the Amazons” from G. Willow Wilson, Xermanico, Jesus Merino, Vicente Cifuentes, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Pat Brosseau. This arc basically brings Wilson’s run around full circle to deal with some of the elements that kicked off her first issue as Diana faces off against Grail. Some really nice double page spreads with border art from Xermanico.

"You didn't hear? Pulitzer raised the price of papes!" He responded angrily. After thanking him, you ran off the find Jack and Crutchie.

You found him talking with the new kid, Donnie or something. "Jack!"

"(Y/N)! Are you alright? Are you hurt?" Jack said while frantically checking you over for wounds.

"I'm fine, just confused as to what the hell is going on,"You assured your friend.

"Pulitzer raised the-" Jack started before getting cut off.

"Yeah I got that part. But what are we gonna do?"

"We're going on strike," the new kid stated proudly.

"Like those trolly boys?"

"(Y/N), Pulitzer needs to know that he can't just stomp all over us!" Jack exclaimed. You contemplated it for a few moments.

"Then I'm with you, Jack. Whatever you need, I'm your girl,"

No matter what happened, you would stick with the boys.

Crutchie had gotten taken away. Jack had disappeared. Frankly, you blamed yourself. You should have never split up from them during the fight. And now your two best friends were missing.

Davey began to walk up to you as you sat on the stoop of someone's apartment.

"(Y/N), what's the next step for the strike?" The taller boy questioned much to your confusion.

"Well, why are you asking me? Jack was the one in charge?" You weren't ready to lead those kids.

"You're Jack's right hand man, or, well, woman. Obviously you'd be in charge if something were to happen to him!" Davey exclaimed. You turn your head away from him and then you see it. All of your fellow newsies are gathered around. Just waiting. Waiting for you. Waiting for you to boss them around.

"Well, the first order of business should be to find Jack. Then, we get Crutchie out. Then we'll soak that damn Pulitzer!" The kids cheered.

You found him with Miss Medda Larkin. You wanted to kiss him and slap him all at the same time. You went with the latter.

"Hey, whaddya doin', (Y/N)?" He exclaimed in confusion anger. You punched his shoulder before responding.

"That's for leaving me without a word. I had to take control of those little demons! All by myself, dammit!" You were pissed and he could tell.

"There's no point in fighting anymore, (Y/N)! We already lost!"

"Jack Kelly, how could you say that. Those kids are counting on us. On you. We're scaring those weasels. All we have to is hammer the final nail into the coffin!" He scoffed.

The conversation continues like that for a while. Eventually Jack agreed to come back with you and help.

The letter was everywhere. Eventually you and Jack were able to make a deal with Pulitzer. Everyone was celebrating. You'd never seen your friends look so happy. Jack was easily the happiest of everyone. The love you felt for him was excruciating.

You were haunted by the fact that he'd be leaving for Santa Fe soon. You walked away from the crowd to clear your head. You sat down on your stoop as you listened to those kids hoot and holler.

"Mind if I join you, ma'am?" You looked up to find Jack standing in front of you with a smirk on his face.

"Well, if you must, I guess you can"

"Oh, how generous of you!" You giggled as he bumped his shoulder against yours.

"So, why aren't you over celebrating with the others? This is as much you as it is me," Jack asked you.

"It's just strange knowing that everything will be changing soon. You'll be leaving. Davey and Les's dad is going back to work soon so they'll be leaving. I mean, I'm gonna have to make sure Crutchie and the others don't get themselves killed! That's a lot of responsibility!" You responded.

"Well, I've been thinking. I think I may stick around a while," Jack looked at his shoes as you stared at him in confusion.

"But isn't Santa Fe your dream?" You couldn't wrap your mind around why he'd stay in the place he's been dying to get out of forever.

"I thought it was. But, there's one thing that Santa Fe has that I couldn't possibly live without,"

"And what would that be?"

"Take a guess," before you could give him your answer, Jack pressed his lips against yours. You heard the distant din of the Newsies hollering at the sight of their two leaders finally getting together. You had never planned on him. But damn, you were glad that he was here.

Of well, no Grey Cup for Ottawa. The Calgary Stampeders trounced the CFL team from our nation's capital 27 to 16 in yesterday's championship game. I feel sad for all the Redblacks fans. We'll get them next year eh.

I was so excited to meet Steve Leialoha in 1985 that I asked him how he kept his long hair out of the way when he was drawing. He smiled and said he tied it back in a pony tail. Probably the dumbest fanboy question he's ever heard. I am still embarrassed to this day. He still drew this for me in my diary.

Archie #700 - Nick Spencer (writer) Marguerite Sauvage (art) Jack Morelli (letters). This issue might as well be a reboot because it's a great place to start reading a more sophisticated Archie Comic than the ones I read as a kid. Jughead's got a job (gasp) writing for the Riverdale Gazette and he narrates this introduction to all things Riverdale. I like how all the main characters are presented and I really like the art. I have been recommending this book since Mark Waid revamped it and even though Nick Spencer wrote his heart out here, none of it seemed like padding.

Batman #59 - Tom King (writer) Mikel Janin (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). The Tyrant Wing part 2. Batman, Penguin and Bane. I read this issue with glee because it is awesome sauce. The big bad super villain could be perpetrating the biggest con on Batman since the Riddler. I can't wait to see where this goes.

Cover #3 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) David Mack (art) Bill Sienkiewicz (art pages 21 to 24) Zu Orzu (colours) Carlos M. Mangual (letters). It's Fields, Max Fields, comic book creator and international spy. He's no James Bond or Austin Powers just a fish way out of the water. I'm still enjoying this very much. If it wasn't for the credits page I would have thought that Bill Sienkiewicz's pages were drawn by Walt Simonson.

Lucifer #2 - Dan Watters (writer) Max & Sebastian Fiumara (art) Dave McCaig (colours) Steve Wands (letters). "Of Red Deaths and Ginger Tomcats". This story takes place in four different dimensions. It's a challenge to keep track of everything that's going on and no connections have been made as yet. Lucifer appears in three planes and is portrayed quite differently in each. This new Vertigo book is atypical of what the imprint embraces but I prefer a more linear story. I hope this has a hell of a run.

Marvel Knights #2 - Matthew Rosenberg & Donny Cates (writers) Niko Henrichon (art) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Elektra Natchios joins the cast of this Marvel mystery. So now we have Bruce Banner, Frank Castle, Elektra and Matt Murdock teaming up. Matt is the only one who remembers that he's Daredevil and we get a glimpse of Bruce's alter ego but nothing monstrous yet. This book is keeping me guessing.

Hulk #9/LGY #726 - Al Ewing (writer) Joe Bennett (pencils Hulk pages) Ruy Jose (inks Hulk pages) Paul Mounts (colours Hulk pages) Martin Simmonds (art Crusher Creel pages) VC's Cory Petit (letters). I liked the synergy of the Hulk's and Crusher Creel's stories alternating throughout this issue. The surprise at the end will give you a good idea about how different this new Hulk book is from what you've read before.

Doctor Strange #8/LGY #398 - Mark Waid (writer) Andres Guinaldo & Javier Pina (pencils) Javier Pina & Andy Owens (inks) Carlos Lopez (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Stephen's betrayal of Kanna comes to light which changes their relationship status. The high stakes fight with Baron Mordo ends with the Doc's friend coming to her senses. Still, all is not well with the good Doctor.

West Coast Avengers #4 - Kelly Thompson (writer) Stefano Caselli (art) Triona Farrell (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Yay, B.R.O.D.O.K./M.O.D.O.K. is defeated and Los Angeles is saved. I love this team. They're so much fun.

Iron Man #6/LGY #606 - Dan Slott & Jeremy Whitley (writers) Valerio Schiti (art) Edgar Delgado (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Stark Realities part 1. A new story starts here and it's a doozy. I remember the last relaunch and Tony trying to make the world a better place with Stark Tech. Dan tries doing that again with a new Stark virtual reality game. Suffice it to say that things don't end well. I like the old school villain who shows up on the last page. Dan sure upgraded this baddie.

Middlewest #1 - Skottie Young (writer) Jorge Corona (art) Jean Francois Beaulieu (colours) Nate Piekos (letters). This is not like the fun, whimsical and irreverent "I Hate Fairyland" unless you count the talking fox. It's the story of Abel, a kid living in the mid-west with a tough love single dad. Pretty heavy stuff but there are some signature Skottie Young touches like the fox and pink energy sources in the background. The story starts with Abel getting into trouble and progresses to him running away by issue's end. I'd like to follow along and see what happens to the lad.

Fantastic Four #2/LGY #647 - Dan Slott (writer) Sara Pichelli (pencils) Sara Pichelli with Elisabetta D'Amico (inks) Marte Gracia (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I lucked out and found one copy left on the racks for me to read. This is where the Griever first appears to threaten the multiverse and we see how Reed, Sue and the rest of the Future Foundation reunites with Ben and Johnny plus all the heroes that have ever been associated with the Fantastic Four. I like how the kids have grown up a little and I hope they are involved in future stories.

Uncanny X-Men #2/LGY #621 - Ed Brisson, Matthew Rosenberg & Kelly Thompson (writers) R. B. Silva (pencils) Adriano Di Benedetto (inks) Rachelle Rosenberg (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I said I wasn't going to read the rest of this story after the first issue but then I flipped through this issue and the art really impressed me so I grabbed it off the rack. The highlight of this issue plot-wise is who shows up on the last panel to help the mutant heroes.

Una manciata di belle canzoni del 2006 & 2007, qui riunite assieme.

1. Amy Winehouse | Tears Dry On Their Own (Back To Black, 2006) Grande rielaborazione di Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, capolavoro Motown, ricantata con tutt’altre melodie e parole sulla stessa musica. Ne viene fuori un classico soul modernissimo: anche grazie alla popolarità della Winehouse e dei suoi disastri psico-tossici (al tempo del singolo non passava settimana senza che venisse arrestata o fotografata in stati pietosi).

2. Au Revoir Simone | The Lucky One (The Bird Of Music, 2007) Sono tre ragazze di Brooklyn che aprirono il loro secondo disco con coretti angelici ed elettronica cadenzata: un po’ figlie dei fiori del Duemila, anche per via dell’uso della parola sunshine, che fa sempre molto Hair. Da cantare con i bambini, per insegnar loro l’inglese.

3. Grant-Lee Phillips | The Killing Moon (Nineteeneighties, 2006) Lui è un bravissimo cantautore californiano, che si costruì un seguito con una band che chiamò Grant Lee Buffalo. Nel 2007 ha fatto un disco di cover, tra cui questa anni ottanta di Echo & the Bunnymen (usata poi anche in Donnie Darko).

4. James Blunt | Same Mistake (All The Lost Souls, 2007) Inglese, aveva fatto lo strabotto qualche anno prima con un bel disco pop, e grazie all’insistenza del suo ufficio stampa sul suo essere stato militare in Kosovo. Il secondo disco non ebbe lo stesso effetto sorpresa, ma diverse cose buone: tra cui Same Mistake, bella per come lui urla di stare urlando, e per la rassegnazione sui propri errori.

5. Just Jack | Starz In Their Eyes (Overtones, 2007) Che si facciano ancora pezzi dance così travolgenti e canticchiabili insieme, è una cosa che rincuora. Molto house, anche se lui era un bambino ai tempi della house: è nato a Londra nel 1975, e ha una pronuncia londinese fantastica quando fa "sa-a-dèi nàit". Andò fortissimo in Olanda.

X. Michael Stipe ft. Joseph Arthur | In The Sun (2005) L’aveva scritta e cantata nel 2001 Joseph Arthur, cantautore di Akron, Ohio, a suo tempo scoperto da Peter Gabriel. Fu incisa poi dallo stesso Gabriel per un disco dedicato a Lady Diana, e nel 2005 da Michael Stipe dei REM per un progetto benefico a favore di New Orleans travolta dall’uragano. Nel singolo ne comparivano due versioni di Stipe con Arthur, una con Chris Martin dei Coldplay, una con tutti i Coldplay dal vivo e un remix di Justin Timberlake. p.s. no, la versione di Gabriel non è granché.

6. Mika | Grace Kelly (Live In Cartoon Motion, 2007) Nato in Libano, cresciuto a Parigi e Londra, Mika ha fatto il disco pop del 2007, paragonato per ricchezza ed melodica alle cose dei Queen. Ha venduto sfracelli, e piazzato un pacco di singoli in classifica. Il primo – una cosa che trascinerebbe a ballare anche Rocco Buttiglione – era primo nelle classifiche delle vendite online prima ancora che uscisse il disco. Racconta del reinventarsi per avere successo ("so i tried a little Freddie, si parla di Mercury), e cita melodicamente Largo al factotum del Barbiere di Siviglia di Rossini.

7. Norfolk & Western | Barrels On Fire (The Unsung Colony, 2007) Sono due, di Portland, Oregon, più altri a girare: gli altri sono necessari per arricchire di archi e suoni vari il folk proprio della band. Qui loro due canticchiano, e poi lasciano trionfalmente passare gli altri.

8. Richmond Fontaine | Lost In This World (Thirteen Cities, 2007) Piano e voce, per quando avete voglia di commuovervi. E sono di Portland anche loro, genere alternative (il piano qui è di Howe Gelb, uno di culto nel giro). "Ho fatto casino di nuovo, non so neanche dove sono: scusa se non ti ho chiamato prima".

9. The Killers | Bones (Sam’s Town, 2006) Formidabile baracconata rock da cantare a squarciagola: e innamorarsi del paraparappa sotto la strofa.

10. Irene Grandi | Bruci la città (Irene Grandi Hits, 2007) La canzone dell’estate 2007, scritta da Francesco Bianconi dei Baustelle. Il "muoia sotto a un tram" ricorda l’autobus a due piani che investe gli amanti nella canzone degli Smiths (There Is A Light That Never Goes Out) e anche una delle scene più efficaci e sconvolgenti di Lost: quando il tipo va sotto l’autobus. Il passaggio dove dice "e tutti quei ragazzi come te non hanno niente", malgrado la citazione del pop anni Sessanta (Tous les garçons et les filles, cose del genere) non è chiarissimo: chi sono questi ragazzi che non hanno niente? Poveri ma belli? Che c’entrano? Ma la formula intende invece (un po’ arditamente) che "quei ragazzi" non avrebbero niente di paragonabile a "te". Non sono degli spiantati senza un avere. "Come te non c’è nessuno", insomma.

11. The Polyphonic Spree | Guaranteed Nightlife (The Fragile Army, 2007) Loro sono una band più unica che rara di choral symphonic rock. Fanno gran cori, sono tanti, e sono di Dallas. Il loro terzo disco lo fecero più rock, ma sempre bello allegro.

12. Tiger Lillies |Just Another Loser (Die Weberischen, 2007) Londinesi, teatrali e brechtiani, creano spettacoli musicali da cui saltano fuori canzoni notevolissime: questa era – come l’altrettanto bella Mozart’s In Mannheim – nell’opera dedicata alle donne di Mozart, Die Weberischen.

13. Tunng | Jenny Again (Comments Of The Inner Chorus, 2006) Folktronica è una categoria musicale inventata dai giornalisti inglesi per definire certe band dai suoni e le melodie lievi e notturni, simili al vecchio folk, ma inclini a incasinarli con strumenti più moderni ed elettronici. Il risultato a volte è fastidiosamente dissonante, e a volte meraviglioso. La migliore canzone folktronica la pubblicarono gli inglesi Tunng, Jenny Again. E spiega meglio di mille parole.

14. Wilco | Impossible Germany (Sky Blue Sky, 2007) Canzone di spaesamenti, e il più bell’assolo di chitarra dai tempi dei grandi assoli di chitarra.

15. Stars | In Our Bedroom After The War (In Our Bedroom After The War, 2007) Sono canadesi, fanno un bella musica canticchiabile tra il pop e l’alt-rock, ricca di arrangiamenti. "Nella nostra camera da letto dopo la guerra" è un bel titolo, "stay that way for the rest of the day" suona benissimo, e la canzone ti porta via come quando eri ragazzo e sentivi le canzoni forte in camera tua, in mezzo alla guerra.

16. Glen Hansard ft Markéta Irglová | Sleeping (The Swell Season, 2007) Lui è irlandese, suonava in una band che si chiamava The Frames, e ha fatto il disco più bello del 2007 assieme a lei, cantante e musicista ceca: canzoni notturne e commoventi. E non perdetevi anche la sua (di lui) cover di Everytime di Britney Spears.

Reader gender: female Warnings: swearing, brief mentions of death A/n: sorry for being absent for so long! I’ve kinda lost a lot of motivation and creativity so please send in some prompts I’m v desperate. Word count: 2202 You laid down on your bed with a good book and music blasting from your phone, bored after the third day the Winchester’s had left you alone in the bunker. The sound cut out, replaced by the generic ringtone. You answered it after seeing it was Dean. “Hey hey.” You greeted. “Y/n, glad you’re okay. I need you to meet us in Wyoming, we have stuff to talk about.” He said, sounding morbid. “Okay, text me the address. Hey, is everything okay? What happened with the nephilim?” “I’ll tell you there.” He growled before hanging up. He quickly sent you the address for a hotel about a 12 hour drive from the bunker. You packed a small bag and retrieved your motorcycle from the garage.

You rode for 12 straight hours, running on nothing but fast food and caffeine. The limited word from the boys only made you go faster. You finally arrived at the hotel and parked next to the familiar Impala. You grabbed your bag and walked to the building, passing a boy around your age huddled by a stack of crates. You slowed down and knelt down beside him. “Hey, are you okay?” You asked him. “Yeah. Everyone was just really angry inside.” He shuddered. “My oldest brother gets angry a lot. I usually let him be when it happens. Just remember it’s not your fault.” You assured him. “No… I think it is. He sure seemed to think it was.” The door opened beside you, releasing heat into the cold night. “Jack? Jack?” Someone called. “Sam?” You asked, recognizing the voice. “Y/n!” He rounded the crates and spotted you with the boy. “Hey, bro, how’s it going?” You asked, standing and giving him a hug. “Uh, good now, since you seemed to have found who I was looking for.” He said, gesturing to the boy you were with. “Oh yeah, he and I were just talking.” You smiled at him. “She’s very nice.” He told Sam. “Yeah, she is. Jack, this is Y/n, my sister. Y/n, this is Jack, Kelly’s son.” Sam introduced you. “Kelly Kline? He’s that Jack?” You asked in astonishment. “Are you afraid of me now?” Jack asked quietly. “Oh god, no. You’re just a lot different than I expected.” You explained. “So what exactly is Jack here doing outside, in the cold, by himself?” You hissed. “There was some fighting and Jack got upset and vanished.” Sam told you. “Was it Dean?” You sighed. He nodded in response. “That ass. You can’t think too hard about what Dean says, Jack. His frustration turns into anger… and fear.” “What is he afraid of?” Jack questioned. “He thinks it’s his job to protect everybody and right now, he and Sam and now me, have to protect you. And protect people from you if it comes to that.” You told him. “Am I really worth this?” He asked, sounding defeated. “Kelly thought so.” Sam promised. “Cas thought so, I think so.” “I think so, too.” You chimed in. “Now, c’mon, it’s cold out here and I’ve been driving for 12 hours.” You offered the nephilim your hand which he grabbed tightly, his hands surprisingly warm. You hauled him to his feet and walked with him to the door if the hotel. “It’s usually at this point that you’d let go of my hand.” You whispered to him. “Sorry.” He quickly released your hand and stuffed it in his pocket, earning a laugh from you. “At least buy me dinner first.” You teased, clapping him on the shoulder. You jogged to the counter to get a room, leaving Sam to explain to Jack what you had meant. “She was joking. Holding hands is kind of a romantic thing and it’s something you after you get to know someone or- uh- get dinner with them.” Sam awkwardly explained. “Room for one night. Preferably close to them.” You told the lady at the desk, nodding to Sam and Jack. “Alright, just swipe your card.” You pulled one of your fake credit cards out and swiped it on the machine. “You’re all set, Miss Smith, your room is 117, right down the hall, next to Mr. Seth.” She nodded at Sam when she said that and handed you your room key. “Thank you.” You took the key and headed back to Sam and Jack. “Y/n, would you like to have dinner with me?” Jack asked when he saw you arrive, interrupting what Sam was telling him. “No, Jack, you don’t date someone just for the sole purpose of holding their hand.” Sam sighed. “I would love to get dinner with you.” You insisted. “Can you not?” Sam groaned. “Tomorrow sound good?” You continued, ignoring Sam. “Yes.” Jack said, smiling proudly. “Ooh, I’m going on a date. Don’t get too protective, Sammy.” You teased. “Just don’t tell Dean.” He begged as you walked down the hall. You stopped into Sam’s room real quick to grab a beer before going to your room. “Yo! You didn’t tell me Donatello was here! What’s up, man?” You asked, giving the prophet a small hug. “Oh, hello, Y/n. It’s nice to see you.” He greeted. “Well, good talk, I’m going to take this beer and go to sleep. Bye, Donny. Bye, Sam. See ya, Jack.” You left the room and entered your own, downing the rest of the beer and crashing onto your bed. ~~~ “Y/n, wake up!” Dean yelled, shaking you awake. “The fuck do you want, Dean?” You asked sleepily, annoyed at being woken up. “Jack is missing, c’mon.” You began moving quicker, shoving Dean out of the room and changing. You packed up your stuff, grabbed your gun and angel blade and bolted out the door. An angel blade flew passed your head, lodging in the neck of a demon. After Dean retrieved his blade, you headed down to the cars, tossing the keys on the front desk as you went. Sam, Dean and Donatello piled into the Impala and you got on your bike, following them as Donatello delivered directions. You eventually arrived at Jasper, Wyoming, a place you remember reading about in Dad’s journal. It was right above where the shedim were trapped. You rounded a corner and saw Jack in the distance, stand with someone who looked like Donatello. A fiery pit slowly grew between them, a clawed hand reaching out of it. Once you got close enough, you brought your bike to a stop, threw your helmet to the side and raced towards Jack. “Jack! Jack, that’s not Donatello!” You yelled, hoping to draw his attention from the pit in front of him. “Y/n?” He called out. You heard Sam, Dean and Donatello exit the car behind you. “Ignore her, Jack! She doesn’t care about you!” Fake Donatello insisted. “I do care! Please, Jack, close the pit!” “Jack, that’s not Donatello!” Dean told him, coming up beside you. Fake Donatello morphed before becoming someone else. He looked similar to Cain, but his hair was a healthy brown. “Who-” you began to ask but you were cut off when the stranger raised a fist, making it so you were no longer able to breath. “You’re hurting them!” Jack yelled, the hole quickly closing. You could see that Jack was angry by the way he held himself and the way the stranger looked on in fear. Before anything could happen, he disappeared, once again allowing you air. “Are you okay, Y/n?” Jack asked, rushing towards you. “Yeah, don’t worry, Jack, I’m alright.” You assured him. “When did you two get all close?” Dean sneered, big brother mode turning on. “Last night. We had a little chat about how you are when you’re angry.” You shrugged. “When I’m- oh. Right, that.” He sighed, turning and going back into the Impala, leaving the conversation at a standstill. “I told you not to tell him.” Sam sighed, going after his brother. “Damn, if that’s how he acts when we’re just being friends, he’s gonna flip his shit when he hears about our date.” You laughed. “Your date?” Donatello asked. “We have a date tonight!” Jack told him happily. “I see. You kids enjoy that.” He muttered, heading for the Impala. You followed him to the driver's seat and knocked on Dean’s window. He rolled down the window, allowing you to talk. “You take Donatello to get his car and I can take Jack straight back to the bunker. Cool?” You asked. “I guess…” He sighed. You nodded and led Jack back to your bike while the boys took off. You searched through the attached truck until you pulled out a spare helmet and tossed it to Jack. “What do I do with this?” He asked, spinning it around in his hands. “Put it on your head, latch the clippy things and put down the visor so you don’t get rocks in your eyes.” You instructed. He did as you said and you tightened the helmet for him. “Now, I’m going to drive and you’re going to put your hands around my waist and hold on tight.” You said as you mounted the bike and started it. “Aren’t there supposed to be seatbelts?” He asked nervously. You laughed. “Not on a motorcycle.” He got on behind you and laced his arms around your waist. “Ready?” You asked him. “I think so.” He replied uncertainly. You drove forward, following the trail the Impala has left behind. Jack yelled something behind which got caught in the wind. You rode for four and a half hours with a few breaks to talk. It grew dark as you reached Denver, Colorado. Hunger reaching your mind, you scanned the surrounding restaurants, finally parking at one called Acorn. “Ready for our first date?” You asked him, pulling off your helmet and fixing your hair. “Yes, I am!” He exclaimed happily. You chuckled and took his hand, guiding him into the building. “Two, please.” You told the hostess as you approached her. “Right this way.” She guided you. “Ever been to a restaurant before, Jack?” You asked once you had been seated. “I don’t believe so.” He replied after a moment of thinking. “Okay, So first they’re gonna ask what you want to drink. You’ve got all the alcoholic stuff here, but since you don’t know what you like yet, I’d avoid that.” You directed him. A waitress approached your table, notepad in hand. “Hello, my name’s Chrissy and I’ll be your server today. Can I start y’all off with something to drink?” She asked. “Yeah, I’ll have a water.” You told her. “Me too. I’ll also have a water.” Jack said. “I’ll be right back, then.” She said as she left. “Alright, now you can look at the menu and see what you want to eat.” You scanned through the options on your own menu. “Do you want to share the oak roasted chicken?” You asked, seeing the limited dinner options. “Yes, that sounds good.” He nodded in agreement. Chrissy came back with your waters and you placed your orders. Throughout the rest of your dinner, you talked about anything and everything. You told him about your life, joining them after Adam and your mother had died, growing up on the road with no real friends except your brothers. You told him about Kelly and Cas and explained anything he asked. He didn’t have much experience with the world, but he told you what he could. He talked about his powers and angel radio and what he wanted to see in the world. After you had finished dinner and payed, you called Dean to tell him that you’d be staying at a motel tonight. “Wait, with him?” He scoffed. “I sure as hell ain’t paying for two rooms.” You replied. “It can’t be that far, can’t you just hold out?” He begged. “We’re in Denver, Dean. It’s another eight hours.” You stressed. “You left seven hours ago, what the hell are you still doing in Denver?” “We stopped for dinner.” “For three hours.” “We did a lot of talking.” “We were on a date!” Jack exclaimed, hearing your conversation. “What did he just say?” Dean growled. “Hmm? I didn’t hear anything. Oh, I’ve got to go. It’s getting dark and I want to make sure we get into a good motel. Bye, Dean.” You quickly ended the conversation and hung up. “Sorry, I just got excited.” Jack sighed. “It’s alright, Jack. Dean just doesn’t like you very much and he’s very protective of me.” You explained. “Oh, okay.” He said awkwardly. “Well, hop on, let’s go find a place to sleep.” You said, tossing Jack his helmet and getting on your bike. After arriving at a nearby hotel and booking a room, you flopped down on the bed and kicked off your shoes, ready to sleep after the eventful day. “Y/n, what happens after the date?” Jack curiously asked. “Well, if the people like each other, they start dating and call each other boyfriend a girlfriend, generally.” You explained. “Then… can we start dating?” He asked shyly. “If that’s what you want.” “Yeah, I think I’d like that.” “Then, date we shall.”
