It just dawned on me that the snake, Jonathan, is probably named after the satirist, Jonathan Swift.
Tumblr media
Just like Snake has an Emily and a Brontë, he probably has a Jonathan and a Swift....

A book if necessary should be a hammer [or] a hand grenade which you detonate under a stagnant way of looking at the world.

lannisters in the twins tournament is such a tumblr culture moment for me, it is the ultimate litmus test of the two specific ways fandom fall on this website (adoration and projection vs fascination with the disgusting and intricate). you either think they should win the whole thing or couldn’t comprehend why people would vote for the incest twins. a perfect split.

the thing about h.p. lovecraft is that oftentimes the writers and works that were his influences are actually superior to his own work, but it’s mostly due to his explicitly referencing and paying homage to them that i think they have anywhere near the level of readership that they have today

O you found Girl Giant and the Monkey King and nervous nebula's art! Its such a good book, a very underrated version of the great sage. ^-^
the artwork in the book is just amazing. I would stare at it for hours.
YEAH @nervous-nebula's artwork for this book is so fun & the illustrations themselves are great & while I just started the book I'm enjoying its portrayal of the Monkey King so far & am excited at the prospect of a Great Sage in a work for children who's genuinely complex, fun, frustrating, but who's very proactive with sympathetic goals. Also Thom Ngho is a pretty cool little girl who seems to be off on a great adventure of not just self-acceptance but in learning about how power both physical, social, and political should and should not be wielded!

I told my father once about wanting to write a book, and showed him the first scene i had written, and he said it was good but that it lacked some sort of hook. He phrased it like "What is special about the protagonist? [Insert several examples about media he knew i read/watched even if he had only vague knowledge of them, amongst those 'You know in lord of the rings where he is the boy that lives with the gnomes']"
And I've been thinking about being extraordinary and another book i started and then put aside today because if exactly this topic, and i decided just now that when I'm writing that book, i will write about someone completely ordinary.
And not in a humorous exploration of the chosen one trope where just some guy stumbles through a fantasy world, even tho i like those stories, and also not in the "they themselves and everyone else thinks they are just ordinary and it seems they are but in the last few chapters it turns out that they are the secret heir to the magic throne".
"But why are they the protagonist of your book then? What will you be writing about?" you may ask. Well. What makes them special is the fact that I love them and want to give them everything they deserve.

Okay, so has anyone seen the trailer for Three Thousand Years of Longing? The movie looks inappropriate for GAs, so i won't link it here...But Idris Elba plays a djinn who materializes as a giant in a hotel room. So yah...yah o///o *blushes and fans self*
