I'm having trouble writing a personality for my 'raised by g7' yuu, what kind of personality should they have? I'm kinda leaning at a manipulative type

I'm open to suggestions

Based on what I've read here's some suggestions— some may contradict each other since they're just ideas and you prolly shouldn't add ALL of them

I'm imagining them to be much more soft spoken and introverted— not shy though. They don't get nervous around people they just don't really see the point of small talk/are more quiet. Maybe when they speak is an "Everyone listens" situation depending on how rare it is for to speak without prompting.

Manipulative and Influential are two different things. (Ur smart but I feel like making this point since ppl confuse them.)

+Maybe if you go more influential you can tie in the "Everyone listens" more.

As for manipulation:

They would probably mostly speak the truth and if they give their opinion, they say so. They also never say bold faced lies maybe dancing around the subject. (Think Alhaitham/Ayato). It would be more subtle and people can just see them as being private/ weird like everyone else at school.

Or you can pull a Cater and give Yuu a "speaking face" to put on during interactions. Granted it won't be as fake.

People rarely see them put too much effort into things.

^^ like maybe they never do assignments but Ace tests. Or they never participate in PE but are peak condition for exams. (Seriously they refuse to run laps but here they are with 80+ pull ups in their record)

Maybe their grades can be purposely low but never failing.

They tend to pawn off work to others after making them think it's their issue/convincing or by simply being in the right place in the right time. They can easily hide from Crowley making him give work to others.

No one knows anything about them and aren't even sure if "Yuu" is their name. Take advantage of it. They can easily make up stories about their origin to excuse how out of touch they are. "Damn I didn't know that rule. Where I'm from its considered rude."

I can see them being very calm. Really hard for them to make them show too much emotion.

Or maybe they're creepy calm. Maybe they always have a slight smile on their face no matter how they're feeling. How creepy would it be to be attacking someone who's smile doesn't drop for a moment? Or someone smiling while crying.

Blunt and explains things easily or they're more expressive in words and maybe make metaphors for people to derive meaning from or as a method to explain things.

^^ "You see Deuce to say magic is like *that* is to say that Floyd is either fully human or fully eel at any given moment wheh it reality its much more complicated— an analysis like that is surface level, blah blah blah"

Or maybe they're like Columbo. They allow someone to speak. They give their two cents and then point out a fatal flaw in what was said or bring up something that contradicts them. (Have a meme to basically explain it)

Extremely analytical?? Like they know who would be most suited for any situation and plans around people's personalities/how they clash.

"Oh you said you couldn't feel yourself move when you got into an accident. Hey Grim remember when ruggie approached you, what was that like"

"You can tell Leonas lying cause his tail swisher left instead of right." Ect

They either underplay/are modest about their magic or they're confident. I can't see them boasting but they wouke jusy be like. "I can do that without issue." Or "Ace stop, let me do it, I can do it faster."

okay to be honest idek how to use tumblr properly so i am sorry if this is... weird formatting or something?

but i just read all 10 chapters that are available for public access and. OH. MY. GOD. listen, i love me some good lore and i love keeping track of minute details and (what i think may be) narrative choices—and while i did all those things, this still managed to outsmart me! more than once! while delivering an amazing romance!

i jusy needed to scream at the void (or at you, i guess) because this is truly one of the best worldbuilding i have encountered in media... ever.

tldr; screaming. crying. thought you should know.

Thank you for all of that! I have so much of this world that never gets shared with you all and I am dying to be able to put more out there. To create other kinds of stories within this universe. Granted, I don't know if they are all going to be as big as this but there is so much worth exploring here. As long as you all want to read it, I plan to keep writing. :)

I just finished Chainsaw Man's first Arc and I am not normal about it so I need to let it out.

Also warning for major spoilers down here.

First of all, I fucking hate people commenting their ignorance on Instagram under posts of Denji and Power bathing together naked.

I don't think any of you understood the meaning of that chapter.

After the literal hell they experienced, Power was terrified. Terror was the only thing she could feel. Fear. Paranoia.

And who are here for her?

Her family.

I don't give a crap if they bather naked. Dude. Have you any idea how... vulnerable that moment was?

Denji declined a solo trip with Makima because he was worried about Power. Because he didn't want to let her (or Aki) alone after what happened.

Now you can tell me "that's not sibling love, it's romantic/sexual because they did this and that". Look, you can have your own opinion, but I have mine and this post is me explaining my point.

Denji looked after Power, looked that there was no darkness in her mouth or behind her, he made her eat, they took a bath together because Power was so scared to be left alone, slept together and Not👏a single👏 time👏 Denji thought it was sexual/romantic.

Dude even says it out loud for you to understand it.

I'm sorry if you expected a hyper realistic sibling dynamic copy pasted from your sad realistic life, but-

This was literally two broken people, who never experienced a normal life, giving comfort to each other.

If your sibling (brother/sister) were terrified after a traumatic event and were afraid to even poop alone, don't you stay with them? If they are afraid of being alone in the bathroom, don't you stay with them?? I'll be DAMNED if you find it wrong to sleep in the same bed with your sibling because you're the opposite gender.

And the whole giving blood thing because Denji would hate her (spoiler: he would not, but oh well) is obviously cause, DUH, this is Chainsaw Man,

It's not exactly the best most healthy and positivity and flowers and happiness manga. There is not even a slight hint of anything NOT toxic, because surprise! It's a seinen! And fictional! With the purpose of entertainment!

You know what's one single pure thing about all of this? The Denji and Power sibling vulnerability chapter.

YOOO SO UM- HI GUYS IM ALIVE AGAIN? AFTER SO FUCKIN LONG! LMAO! But sorry for such a late response to this, I kinda lost interest in tumblr for a while so I'm gonna try and be more active!! For Death Note I'd match you up with.... MELLO! - You would kinda just join his gang one day, no one knows how it happened but he was drawn to ya - You'd quickly make your way up the ranks, your good leadership shining through!! - It also didn't take long for you and Mello to get surprisingly close! - Obviously he wasn't at the point he'd tell you anything personal, but you'd hang out with him and Matt! - You guys were comfortable to the point you'd both sit around quietly with rock music playing as Matt played his games - But one day Mello noticed you were more... I dunno, lifeless - Matt was out doing his own shit, so Mello scooted over to you on the couch and roughly put a hand on your shoulder - This would scare the fuck out of you, but you'd calm down once you saw Mello's face... Even if he was basically giving you a death glare - He'd simply ask what's wrong, no context or nothin' - You could tell he wouldn't take any bs... But that he also DID care - So you kinda just opened up to him about your anxiety and the things you were stressing about - This man took it seriously, listening to every word - He noticed at some point you were getting REALLY emotional... And Mello? He ain't good with that - He didn't know how to respond except to quietly listen, but when you were about to cry you quite literally had a piece of chocolate stuffed in your mouth - It definitely did calm you down a bit, especially when you looked at Mello and... His gaze was just so soft - At least softer than you've ever seen it - Serious but in a caring way - And since then you two got closer... He'd even just casually let you steal a chunk off his chocolate at some point - Matt wasn't happy abt that, he wanted chocolate too - BUT THEN - The main area of your guys' hangout got stormed - Bullets were flying everywhere and Mello didn't know where you were - He'd first think about killing the motherfuckers that got there but... He needed to know if you were ok - At this point he opened up to you even the littlest bit - And he cared so much about you - You were different than anyone he's ever known, he didn't know what these feelings were - Jk, he's a genius ofc he knew- but he wasn't used to them - When he found you holding yourself up, being all badass but barely holding yourself against the bad guys - He didn't think twice to help out - After the entire situation, he just held you close and muttered smth about how worried he was - You just... quietly held him back, which was exactly what he needed at the time - He realized how much you grounded him - When you guys started dating, he didn't even tell anyone - You didn't either, you guys would just casually sit really close on the couch - Matt damn well knew, but when Mello ONE DAY kissed your head, Matt knew that Mello would give the world for you - That head kiss took you so off guard - Mello isn't into PDA, but that? In front of Matt? WILD - You guys don't even need to tell each other words at some point, you guys just know what the other is thinking - You're sitting on a couch and Mello taps your shoulder without looking at you? You knew he wanted the TV remote to turn that shit off since Matt was raging - Anyways, you two have such a weird dynamic - Btw... Btw... When you two are alone Matt let's you rest your head on his shoulder and he'll wrap an arm around you - It's rare that you two get much alone time since you guys are so damn buisy - Also... kisses taste like chocolate THIS ISNT MUCH BUT IM LIKE- GOING BRR RN SO HERE YOU GO!

- is heartbreaking how Mia found out. I’m wondering if maybe she’ll be hurt but understand??? She’s a 15-16 year old smart girl. At that age i def saw cases like this and it always ends with the straight partners supporting the gay ones. Hell, a case EXACTLY like this happened my freshman year of HS. These really popular girl started dating this new kid and she was obsessed with him lowkey?? They broke up bc he came out and she was the most supportive. I understand she’s hurt bc he cheated, but i hope she listens to him and tries to understand like how hard it is for queer kids and how confused he was? Is heartbreaking bc he truly cares for her and im sure right she thinks he doesn’t and just used her. But i hope she’s willing to listen. S2 thoughts:

- okay well a lot of truth bombs. I truly think separating was the right choice to get them back together in a healthy manner. That is if they don’t date other people. Roger will most likely make a comeback. She will most likely date him. Maybe she’ll realize what a shit bag he is when he does/says something dumb and realize Armando is it for her??? I hope at least i do wanna root for them

- im so proud of Victor🥺🥺 he told everything to Benji, and came to out Felix + his family. Ik things will be hard with Mia at first, and Andrew is still no saint so he might be a dick to him on the team once he is out (or might defend him) but at least they know too. I saw the writers saying s2 will be now about Benji and Victor learning to be in a relationship and Victor’s environment changing. Benji and him will def struggle in the department that Victor is still learning how to openly be himself and let himself be seen versus Benji already having dealt with that before. So it will prob be hard for Benji too. It’s exciting tho and i hope despite everything s2 is kind to them.

- backetball will be hard for Victor without a doubt. I really hope Bram and Simon come for holidays or something and we get to see them again. Maybe even meet Benji or Felix too that would be so🥺🥺🥺

- can’t tell how the parents will react. Ik he won’t be kicked out and certain things will he hard bc s2 is gonna be about them working it out for sure, but I can’t tell if at first they’ll go in complete denial or will just quietly ignore it or fully pretend to be supportive while they aren’t. I hope s2 shows us the end of that scene and how the reactions went and not just a time jump. We will most likely start with a time jump but i hope the first ep of s2 shows us the reaction through a flashback.

Overall: amazing actors. Really good writing. These were realistic characters who make dumb realistic choices and are heartfelt and down to earth. All the actors are amazing and bring so much to the table. The writing is great dropping small hints for things to come without it being screamed at your face so you aren’t surprised 100% by certain choices but also not completely expected. And it’s honest about teens’ journeys at that age with appropriate age actors (except for Andrew I haven’t looked at his age but motherfucker looks older then ME lmao). I can’t WAIT for s2 and again, leaving it to existence so it happens: LET SIMON AND BRAM HAVE A LIL EP WITH VICTOR AGAIN IN S2!!!!!!

Hi i love your blog! Ive been single my whole life and i just need some confidence tips bc its gotten to the point where if i think about what it would be like if a guy liked me i actually feel weird and embarrassed. I get like second-hand embarrassment from it?? Like it feel like an absolutely ridiculous thing to think about.

I got two asks asking relatively the same stuff, so I am answering them both in one post.

This concept of keeping lovers and friends as separate entities is often what makes us anxious. I mean, if you can’t be friends with a guy first, chances are, it’s going to be near impossible for you to be in a healthy romantic relationship with them as well.

They are flawed humans, just like you and me. There’s going to be things you’ll like about them and things you’ll hate. Likewise, there will be things about you that he’ll like and things he won’t like. And that’s fine!

It helps to think of guys you like as friends that you can also be physically close to. It means you can do what friends do, like joke around and do dumb stuff, and then maybe make out afterwards as lovers do. But if you can’t do the casual dumb stuff, then the romantic stuff feels more awkward and impersonal.

Act like you would any other person, and then if it turns into more, then expand on that preexisting friendship.

Second of all: Being single =/= Being unattractive.

There are so many conventionally beautiful people that are CHOOSING to stay single so that they can focus on themselves and their dreams.

Even if they don’t mind being in a relationship, they take advantage of the single time to develop themselves and work on their goals in the mean time. That way, when the right person comes along, they already know who they are and what they want before adding this new person into their lives.

Here are some tips on how to feel more confident:

Dress to feel good. It doesn’t have to be what’s trending, but you should FEEL good wearing it. Same goes with hair and makeup. Do as much as you feel like, but don’t do it because you feel like you SHOULD. Here’s a post I made about dressing up for a date night, if you wanna take an extra step for a date.

Learn more. Ever heard the saying jack of all trades; master of none? That doesn’t apply to conversation. If you’re an expert in, say, computers, so that’s all you focused on, then you’d have to wait for a conversation about that topic to feel smart or at least have the ability to relate to the other person. But if you know a little bit about a hundred different topics, then you can at least keep up with a variety of conversation, and learn new things about the topic along the way. Keep up with the news, read books, listen to podcasts, etc. I personally don’t like a lot of r&b but I still listen to what’s trending at least once so that if someone asks if I’ve heard the latest Ariana song or whatever (is she even r&b?) I can at least have something to say, even if it isn’t “I love it”. The same can apply to virtually any topic.

Know yourself. You don’t have to go discover nirvana, but you should at least know what you like and what you don’t like, so that you can filter out the bad from the good and save yourself a lot of time and heartbreak. This, again, applies to more than your romantic or even social life. If you know what you want, you’re less likely to waste time doing things you don’t want, like taking the wrong course or job. BUT, sometimes, knowing yourself means learning from your mistakes, so if you mess up, or if you get hurt, just remember that this is a learning opportunity for next time.

Be nice. You could be Miss Universe, but if you are rude, you’ll always look awful. Now, I’m not saying that you should be a pushover, but you shouldn’t be rude either. If there is something that you can’t or really don’t want to do, apologize and explain that you cannot do that thing. But do try to help others and be polite whenever you can, unless they’re awful.

Fake it. If all else fails and you feel like you’re sticking out like a sore thumb, don’t let anyone know. Pretend you belong. Pretend that you know what you’re doing. If you believe that you deserve the world, one day you will. Fake it till you make it!

I'm pleased to report that I’ve found quite a few enjoyable new releases this year. It's hard to have a 'definitive' outlook as there remains so much for me to catch up with, but here are the highlights from what I've heard so far.

(To keep things from getting redundant here, my 2018 halfway list's honorable mentions won't be featured here. Read that list here if you're curious about them.)

Top 8 Albums

8. Steve Hauschildt - Dissolvi

ambient techno / progressive electronic / ambient

Hauschildt is known for his role in the defunct drone/ambient group Emeralds. I'm yet to 'get' the appeal of Emeralds, but I've enjoyed a great deal of songs from Steve's solo career, which veered away from his droney roots into more melodic territory. Dissolvi is more transparent/airy in texture than his last few albums, and often less inconsistent. This is great knowing how one of my main issues with his other albums was the lack of consistency. There's a mild techno element here through the subtle use of rhythms, which gives the songs an interesting aquatic pulse.

Dissolvi may be my favorite album of his besides the popular Tragedy And Geometry from 2011. While some songs loop or repeat too much, most of them have plenty of evolving layers to keep this a fluid and hypnotizing listen. This is most apparent on the 7-minute "Alienself", which goes on about 1-1.5 minutes too long but also contains some of Dissolvi's most impressive textures and atmosphere. Also notable is the title song, by far the most rhythmic and tense but retaining some needed subtlety through soft synth hums. A promising step up.

7. Tess Roby - Beacon

Balancing folksy vocals, synths and Durutti-like guitar, Tess Roby is like a lost 4AD/This Mortal Coil collaborator. It's not the most surprising she's on Italians Do It Better, but at the same time it's a bit different from what I expect from the label. These songs are moody and elusive, with a semi-gothic tone save for one or two more tender moments like "Ballad 5". They drift along subtly, but not without shifts in tone or instrumentation. At eight songs long it ends pretty quick but at the same time this keeps it digestible and interesting. My favorite has to be the sinister folk/synth combination of "Borders".

6. Noname - Room 25

jazz rap / hip hop / neo-soul

Noname is someone I've been meaning to listen to for some time now. And my first thought, of course, is 'why didn't I listen to this sooner?' Room 25 is full of blissful jazz groove, even subtler in execution than the likes of Nujabes and Digable Planets (check this out if you like either one). The excellent live band she assembled for the album enhances this effect with it's free-flowing style, one that tends to disobey common verse-chorus structure. The smooth keyboards (piano, e-piano) and Noname's own unique delivery are sure to lull you into a peaceful daze.

I do think Noname tends to mutter a little too much, which can obscure the lyrics, but she has a great flow that blends in very well with the music. She includes plenty of guests and sung sections for these songs, but they don't disrupt the album's flow. They're fitting and natural rather than thrown-in. One great example of this is the way "no name" begins with one brief rap verse before 2.5 whole minutes of singing. If someone else tried that, it could've wound up boring, but this may be the loveliest moment on an already rich album. 'Your life is your life / Don't let it pass you by', the voices repeat over strings and piano until it (and thus the album) ends. I'll be very interested in Noname's next move.

5. Music House/Various - Scandi Disco

'If you’re bored of the sheer quantity of 80s retro music out there, maybe don’t listen to this. But if you’re like me and love this music enough to still give the continuous new releases a chance, I recommend this recent library album. I enjoyed almost every song on this one, a bit surprising seeing how there’s no hype at all surrounding it. I found it only because I was looking through other, older releases by this label, Music House, and this happened to be their most recent album. Everything about this album is shiny, stylish and fun with plenty of energy and melody. The production is impressive as expected from a stock music label, and while it has a prominent modern polish they tap into the huge potential and legacy of electro-disco very well.'

4. Reni Jusis - Ćma

If you've followed me for long enough you may know I've become a big fan of this semi-obscure Polish singer/producer. However, her '16 album BANG! was a let-down. It hopped on all of the worst mid-10's mechanical bass-drop trends I hoped she would evade. I sighed and moved on. But that's when a single ("Tyyyle Milosci") popped up in May. A GOOD one, too, a reflective ballad-like song lacking BANG!’s pitfalls. A great surprise, but I didn't know what to expect from an album. But the press release claims the album is Reni's return to dance music after the 'experiment' of BANG!...

And like I hoped, the album is much more uptempo than BANG!. Shimmering pop anthems, hypnotic melodies, and of course, the abundant synths are all here. All kinds of pleasant textures pop up, forming some great transitions and grooves. Even in more 'experimental' moments (e.g. "Ćma"'s dizzy end cool-down; tracks #6 and #9) there's the kind of spacey atmospheric touches that popped up in her 2000's heyday. It would've been fine if she didn't bring that part back. I thought it was too much to ask for - but there it is!

Ćma has plenty of flaws. A few songs are inconsistent, the huge repetition lowers replay value, and her delivery gets bombastic at times. Many areas would benefit from some tweaking. But I finished Ćma feeling relieved. She did come through with some jams, and she revived the sound she does best. It's a big step up from BANG!, and for that I'm grateful. I recommend this to anyone looking for good modern electro-pop this year.

3. U.S. Girls - In A Poem Unlimited

As I wrote in the 2018 halfway list:

'While I did find the previous U.S. Girls album Half Free a bit inconsistent, In A Poem Unlimited feels like a step up. There were only about 2 or 3 tracks that I didn’t enjoy here. The album has a warm semi-70s feel thanks to the band put together for it. There’s also a sense of eclecticism that’s executed better than on a lot of other albums with similar ambitions. The voice of Meg Remy, the one true ‘member’ of U.S. Girls, can be quite twangy and takes a bit of getting used to at first, but it’s somewhat grown on me since then, and it got some time to shine here. This is most often when she does a kind of nervous falsetto like in two of my favorites, “Rosebud” and “L-Over”. While the many styles that Remy explores here aren’t much new (70s funk, jazzy rock, general quivering psych weirdness, a bit of synth pop), the variation of it all and the will to experiment helps keep things interesting, and most of them evade the boring cliches that tend to pop up in so much music lately.'

1/2. Suiyoubi No Campanella - Galapagos

Cult J-pop group Suiyobi no Campanella released this 'EP' in June, though I don’t get why it’s considered an EP, since it’s the length of an album. It did receive some deserved acclaim upon release but since then, I've heard little about it - seems it didn’t stick. I’m wondering if the promotion as a mere ‘EP’ is part of it - were they wanting to keep a lower profile for this? If so, why, when it’s this elaborate?

The first thing I noticed was how much these songs morph and change, often in unexpected ways. “Bamboo Princess" sets the scene. It begins wistful and hushed but soon evolves into a thrilling chorus of strings and horns. The song also seems to reference an ancient Japanese folk tale. "Matryoshka" relaxed mallet groove mutates and evolves many times through it’s duration. Despite all this, the last two songs calm things down. "A Cat Called Yellow" is a gorgeous end to the album that sounds like both a farewell and a lullaby, covered in this blanket of thoughtful ambience.

Matching the creative song structures is a wide-ranging palette of sounds. There's percussion, sampling, aquatic keyboards, mallets, clean guitar, synth bells, some kind of keening violin ("Bamboo Princess") and even hang (a recent creation similar to the steel drum). It's cold and tropical all at once. Listening is like dipping into the water at a beach resort, watching all these colors blur into the water.

Galapagos has some of the most impressive production I've heard all year. These are more tapestries than songs, and I mean that in the best way possible. This album is an ideal summer-evening mood piece. It may be winter now, but you should listen to it ASAP anyway.

1/2. Fishdoll - Noonsense

wonky / dream pop / electronic / downtempo

'Fishdoll, an exciting new artist from China, manages to recall everything I miss about electronic music of the earlier 10′s. First I thought of ‘wonky’ producers like FlyLo and Teebs who had such interesting and creative taste in electronic production and samples. Take a gander at the amazing operatic vocal/harp sample that ends “Beijing Well” or the spacey fluttering chords on most of the songs, for example. Secondly, Fishdoll adds subtle effects to her own voice that say, Grimes or Washed Out became popular for, creating a similar kind of airy surrealism.

It doesn’t do enough justice to Fishdoll to make so many comparisons, though, since this album really does feel unique. Which is exactly why it's one of my favorites of the year - it’s an electronic artist doing something unique and doing it well.

I’m looking forward to Fishdoll’s next musical move, and I’m convinced Noonsense deserves more than a bit of Bandcamp popularity, which seems to be all it got upon release.'

Top 5 EPs

5. Barker - Debiasing

minimal techno [?]

A lot of the hype around this one deemed it 'techno without the drums'. Sounded like a nice idea on paper, but I didn't expect Barker to pull it off this well. I guess I'm too used to the tedious repetition so many techno producers tend to throw into their creations. But while these songs may lean a bit on the minimal side, their steady evolution help keep this EP sounding interesting at very least. Barker also puts a lot of emphasis on my favorite part of techno, which is all the hypnotic synths and chords and effects.

Every song revolves around thoughtful-sounding arpeggios, graceful in a way. "When Prophecy Fails" and "How Hard I've Tried" are almost shy. They sound like the sensitive core of a giant mechanical structure. Overall this is one of the better examples of techno I've come across for sure. I recommend this if you're like me and looking for techno that's not so grounded in repetition+bass drum overkill.

4. Ravyn Lenae - Crush

contemporary R&B / pop / neo-soul

A brief but warm and breezy EP from an up-and-coming R&B vocalist, who happens to be hardly any older than me. My very obvious favorite is the dynamic and catchy single "Sticky", but the other songs keep up that song's pleasant retro soul style and with such a short length it's very digestible. I'll be interested to hear her next project.

3. D A V I I C I - W sercu pozostaje tylko to co wypalone ogniem

'His sound is similar to that of Adonis listed below - a kind of lo-fi trippy synth pop, but it makes sense since they’re on the same label. This EP is a bit more ghostly and empty, though - D A V I I C I puts his voice through what sounds like autotune to a very weird, bordering-on-creepy effect. This is most noticeable on the songs “Skruszone serce“ and “Czas przez pryzmat“ which are also my favorites of the bunch. I have to say that while I like the idea of ‘hypnagogic pop’, it’s often bored or disappointed me; D A V I I C I and Adonis, though, have impressed me to an extent I didn’t expect.'

2. Elysia Crampton - Elysia Crampton

latin electronic / huayno / folktronica / experimental

I'm not familiar with Elysia Crampton's previous work but judging from this I'll have to change that. This EP has a wild mixture of layers and styles thrown in, ensuring that it never gets boring. There's complex percussion, fuzzy distortion, a varied choice of samples, the occasional regular synth ("Orion Song") and, oddly enough, a bit of airhorn.

These are windy, intense sounds, anchored by the kind of frenzied rhythms that suggest a journey on horseback. "Orion Song" is my favorite for combining this with simpler but still majestic synth patterns and a surprisingly peaceful outro. It ends quick at six tracks but it's obvious from the get-go she packed a lot of creativity into this EP. It has an ear for adventure that I love to hear in electronic music.

1. Adonis - Wiosenna Ofensywa Nie Trwa Dłużej Niż Do Letnich Wakacji

'I only came across Adonis through Bandcamp recommendations and he’s still a bit of a mystery to me [Update: though he did thank me for including this on the halfway list in a Tumblr message!]. This is in part because all the info and lyrics are Polish. But I’m glad I found this EP, since I enjoyed every one of these five songs - while I’ve been blasting the incredible title track all June. In a similar situation to Scandi Disco, it may not be very new, since it’s pretty much a collage of 'alt 80s’ sounds, but if you love the sort of music that entails (e.g. synth pop/shoegaze/dream pop) like I do, I certainly recommend it.'

Angelique Kidjo - Remain In Light

'I was very intrigued when I learned Angelique Kidjo from Benin was to revamp the entire Remain In Light album by Talking Heads. According to her interview in LA Times, she heard “Once In A Lifetime” long ago and recognized the African influence in it’s sound, which is what eventually led to this cover album. Although part of me wishes some covers were a bit closer to the originals than they are, most of the interpretations are still very interesting and enjoyable with an excellent sense of energy and rhythm.'

Lena Raine - Celeste

I forgot to mention this game OST in my halfway list somehow, but it's worthy of honorable mention at very least. It has a distinct style that reminds me a bit of the BGM you hear in Steven Universe - very colorful and spacey at the same time as varied; sometimes relaxed, other times epic. 8-bit bleeps and more modern synths blend with the twinkle of piano often. The best example of this mixture, to my memory, is the bright and productive "First Steps". With so many songs it's hard to evaluate how well it works as an album, but it's more understandable for a game soundtrack as I figure some of these sound better in context. Whether it works that way or just misses the mark, there's no doubt this is an impressive piece of work.

Pastel Ghost - Ethereality

Pastel Ghost doesn't tend to explore new ground with her songs. It's not surprising and I don't think she needs to do that all the time, per se. The issue here is more that those same cliches are even older now than they were in 2015. Read: excess 808 hi-hats, your usual stompy goth-club bass patterns...

But I realize this was more of a grower for me than Abyss. While the vocals and rhythms were disappointing, the synths only got better. Here, PS does a great job of layering distinctive timbres together and forming rich textures and harmonies out of them. I love those twinkling aquatic tones in songs like "Tears" and "Underwater" in particular. She hasn't lost the more distinct part of her sound that first drew me to Abyss, evolving it all at once, which is what matters most in the end.

While Abyss was all about being spooky and sinister, Ethereality is murky and bittersweet. You could say the 'pastel' caught up with the 'ghost' (ba-dum-tish!)... It's not a huge change but it takes you elsewhere, like the depths of an ocean rather than a gloomy forest. Songs like “Emotion” and “Possession” just wash over you like a waterfall thanks to the production - there’s a crystal-clear quality to it that makes this an easy listen even in the lesser moments.

Ethereality, right down to the silly title, could be less predictable, especially in 2018 after there's so many others doing this sort of thing. A lot of the vocals are too breathy and twee, moreso than before. But it's hard for me to ignore the skills on display. Her ear for melodies, synths, etc. continue to distinguish her from the pack and I continue to enjoy her take on this music.

Intentions || Madison & Gabriel

Winter of Senior Year in High School

The Wards fly with Gabe to Myrtle Beach for the rest of winter break after Christmas so he can have time with Morgan. When they get to the hotel, Jenn and Harrison go to check in and Madison, Gabe, Henry, and Ethan go to sit on the couches in the lobby. "When do you meet up with Morgan?" Madison asks Gabe with a smile.

Gabe smiles a little, “Not until dinner. She’s working.”

Maddie nods her head, "How are you feeling now that we're here?"

“Kind of weird,” he half smiles.

She rubs his leg and nods, "Why's that?"

“Jusy because the last time we were here was a lot different,” he shrugs.

Maddie nods her head, "This is good though. Baby steps." She kisses his cheek and her parents come over. "Alright kids, we're all checked in," Harrison says and holds his and Ethan's luggage. Maddie looks at her parents, "What are the room arrangements?"

Jenn hands Maddie a room card, “Henry and Ethan, you’re sharing a bed, and Maddie you will have your own bed in their room.” She gives Gabe a room card, “Gabe, you’re rooming solo.” Gabe nods and smiles a little, “Thanks.”

She fights a frown, "Great, me with the boys."

Jenn gives her a small look and smiles, “Did you really think we would room you with your boyfriend?”

Maddie bites her lip and fights a grin, "Well I hoped."

“Sorry, honey,” she smiles. “Alright, let’s go on up.”

The kids get up and they all take the elevator up to their floor.

Gabe smiles a little at Maddie as he goes over to his room.

Maddie pouts as she looks at him.

He nods his head towards his door and motions two fingers for her to come in two minutes.

She nods her head and fights a grin. Ethan looks at Jenn, “Mommy can I be in your room til bedtime?” Henry smiles, “Me too!”

Gabe goes in his room and Jenn fights a sigh and smiles, “Sure.”

Maddie takes hers and her brothers’ suitcases into the room and Harrison opens the door to their room and Henry and Ethan run in.

Gabe sets his suitcase on the chair and waits for Maddie.”

She goes to Gabe's room and knocks on the door.

Gabe opens the door and grins at her.

Maddie grins at him, "Hi.'

“Hi,” he smiles and closes the door behind her.

She sits on the edge of his bed and smiles, “You’re so lucky you get this room to yourself.”

“I guess that’s a perk of being eighteen,” he shrugs. “And also not your parents’ real child.”

Maddie grins at him, “Well thank god for the latter.”

He laughs and nods his head, “Do you want to come to dinner with Morgan and I?”

She smiles, “If you want me to, I don’t wanna intrude.”

“I want you to,” he nods.”

Maddie nods and smiles, “Then I’ll go with you.”

“Good,” he smiles.

She smiles and holds her hands out to him.

He takes her hands in his and kisses her softly.

Maddie grins as she returns the kiss.

He smiles and pulls back.

She smiles up at him.

“Wanna go sit on the beach or something?” He smiles.

Maddie nods and smiles, “Definitely.”

He grins, “Okay.” He leads her out of the room.

She swings their hands as they walk.

He looks at her and smiles.

Maddie smiles, “I’m glad we’re here.”

"Me too," he nods a little.

She squeezes his hand, “this is good.”

He nods as they go out onto the beach.

Maddie looks around as they walk.

He looks at her and smiles.

She looks at him and smiles back, leaning up to kiss his cheek.

He grins a little as the walk on the beach, “Wanna sit?”

Maddie nods and smiles, “Yeah.”

He nods and sits on the sand with her.

She sits next to him and links their arms.

He kisses her hair softly.

Maddie smiles and looks up at him.

He grins at her.

She grins widely, “I love that smile.”

He chuckles a little, “Thanks.”

Maddie smiles and pecks his lips.

He smiles, “I’m glad you’re here.”

She smiles, “I am too.”

He kisses her head softly.

Maddie smiles and takes out her phone to take a photo of them.

He raises his brows and then leans his head against hers and smiles.

She smiles and takes their photo before turning her head to kiss his cheek and take another one.

He grins and then kisses her lips.

Maddie smiles as she returns the kiss, snapping another photo.

He grins widely into the kiss.

She grins as she feels his smile.

He pulls back and grins.

Maddie giggles, “Wanna see them?”

“Sure,” he nods.

She grins and shows him the pictures.

He looks at them and smiles, “We’re a good looking couple.”

Maddie smiles, “We are.”

He chuckles and kisses her cheek a bunch.

She giggles and wraps her arms around him, “Gabe..”

“Yeah?” He laughs.

Maddie smiles, “You’re sweet.”

“What did I do?” He grins.

She grins, “The cheek kisses.”

He laughs softly, “Oh yeah?”

Maddie nods and smiles, “Yeah.”

He smiles and rubs her arm, “I just love you.”

She grins widely, “I just love you too.”

He kisses her softly.

Maddie smiles and returns the kiss.

He grins and then pulls back shortly.

She smiles and grins up at him.

He smiles, “Are you okay with coming with me?”

Maddie nods and smiles, “Of course. I’m glad you invited me.”

“I want you there,” he smiles.

She leans into him and smiles, “It’ll be nice.”

He nods a little, “I’m a little nervous to see her though.”

Maddie looks up at him, “Understandable. She’s probably so excited to have you here.”

He nods, “Yeah, I just get nervous about not having anything to talk about.”

She looks at him and smiles, “Don’t worry about that at all.”

Gabe smiles a little and nods his head.

Maddie smiles, “You’ve got a lot to catch up on and talk about.”

“Yeah,” he nods a little.

She rubs his back, “Are you okay?”

Gabe nods, “Yeah, I’m alright. Thanks.”

Maddie nods and keeps rubbing his back.

He smiles a little.

She nudges her nose against his jaw, “Talk to me babe.”

He looks at her and lets out a soft breath, “I miss my dad.”

She fights a frown and moves her hand to his cheek, “What do you miss? Tell me about him as your dad.”

“Just his presence I guess. His lectures. His advice. His bad jokes. Camping in the summer, going fishing, boating. Snowboarding in the winter together. Kicking his butt at video games.”

Maddie smiles as she listens, stroking his cheek with his thumb, “He sounds like an amazing dad..”

He nods his head, "He was. I would do anything to be able to talk to him again."

She nods her head, “I can only imagine. I think if you could, that he’d tell you he was proud of you and that he’ll always love you.”

Gabe looks at her, “Thank you.”

Maddie nods and moves her fingers through his hair, “Youre welcome.”

He half smiles, “How have you been doing lately?”

Her brows raise and she smiles, “I’ve been fine.”

He nods a little, “Even with midterms coming up?”

Maddie nods her head and smiles, “I promise.”

“Okay,” he nods a litle.

She smiles, “But I appreciate you checking on me.”

“No problem,” he nods.

Maddie nods, “What about you? How are you feeling about midterms and SATs?”

He shrugs, “Fine. I’ll get through them.”

She nods and leans her chin on his shoulder as she wraps her arms around his, “Do you feel confident about them?”

“I guess. I don’t really stress about exams,” he nods.

Maddie nods a little, “Right.. the SATs are pretty important though.”

“I know that,” he raises his brows.

She nods her head, “Okay.”

“I’m doing the prep course, that’s enough,” he shrugs.

Maddie nods and kisses his cheek.

He smiles a little and rubs her back.

She pecks his lips, “I love you.”

“I love you too,” he nods.

Maddie hums, “Should we dip our feet in?”

“Sure,” he nods.”

She takes off her shoes and holds them in her hand before getting up and holding her hand out to him.

He takes his shoes off before taking her hand and getting up

Maddie smiles and brings him over to the water.

He smiles and steps into the water.

She smiles and squeezes his hand.

He looks out at the water and puts his arm around her.

Maddie smiles and leans into his side.

He kisses her head softly.

She smiles and looks up at him lovingly.

He grins a little as he looks at her.

Maddie grins and pecks his lips.

He smiles and returns the peckx

She smiles widely, “I love you so much.”

“I love you,” he smiles.

Maddie smiles and looks out at the water, “What makes you happy?”

“Your smile,” he nods a little.

She blushes and leans her head on his shoulder.

He grins, “What makes you happy?”

Maddie smiles, “You do.”

“How?” He smiles.

Her brows raise and she grins, “Well, you give the best hugs and they make me feel warm and comfortable and protected. And you have real conversations with me and take the time to listen and you’re always honest. You’re sweet and always take care of me, and the way you look at me sometimes makes my heart race.”

He grins as he listens to her, “That makes me feel good.”

Madison smiles, “Good. You always make me feel loved.”

“I want to,” he nods.

She smiles and touches her nose to his.

He smiles and kisses her softly.

Maddie returns the soft kiss with a hum.

Gabe rubs her back gently.

She pulls back and smiles up at him, “How do I make you feel?”

He glances at her and smirks, wiggling his brows.

Madison smirks, “Really?”

He laughs, “Yes, but I’m also half joking. You make me feel happy and loved.”

She grins, “Damn, and here I thought we were gonna go find some place a little more private.”

Gabe grins, “Liiike my room?”

Maddie nods and smiles, “If you’re in the mood.”

“I’m always in the mood,” he chuckles.

She grins, “Lets go.”

He smiles and leads her back towards the hotel.

Maddie looks at him, “So what’s your favorite position with me now?” She asks with a smirk.

He raises his brows and laughs softly, “Hmm..”

She laughs, “Oh come on, you’ve gotta have one. When you see me and you’re really horny, how do you want me?”

“On top. Or against the wall,” he bites his lip and grins.

Maddie whimpers and presses herself closer to him.

He smirks and stops to put his shoes back on.

She quickly slips her shoes back on and she bites her lip as she checks him out.

Gabe grins at her and winks, “How do you feel when you look at me?”

Maddie smiles and goes to the mirror to fix her hair.

He checks his phone and then looks at her, “I’m ready when you are.”

She smiles and holds out her phone, “I’m ready.”

Gabe smiles and leads her out of the room.

Maddie smiles and goes to dinner with him and Morgan.

summary: it’s summer yayy!! it’s also very hot and you just want to drown in ice cold water, but neighbour!mark comes up with a great idea to distract you from the heat.

warnings: kinda suggestive at the end, a few curse words and this totally went off track from what i had imagined

“Today’s highest peak is estimated to be at around noon. We advise all citizens to use the least amount of water possible due to...” the TV was running in the background, while you were brushing your hair on the couch.

It was probably the hottest day you had ever experienced and it was not pleasant. At all. You had just washed your hair and were hopelessly brushing them, knowing they’d get fucked up from sweat in a matter of hours.

It’s not like you hated Summer, you hated being all sticky and tired to do anything. You were going to finish all the university assignments piled up on your desk last week. Yeah, that never happened.

You stopped brushing your hair, which now looked weirder than before. You started checking your phone for anything to distract you from the heat. Not even NCT's new post was satisfying enough to catch your attention. At that moment you hear a loud bump followed by a weirdly loud screech.

“Can she stop fucking putting the bags here jeez” you hear coming from the hallway outside your apartment. You went to the door and opened it, curious to see who it was. You find an agonizing Mark sitting on the hallway’s floor with his hands around his left foot, massaging it. He noticed you and quickly stood up, brushing off his shirt.

“Uh, sorry! You must’ve been bothered by the noise haha. I just, I-I bumped into these bags and it hurt, so like yeah anyway... sorry!” Mark mumbled, scratching the back of his neck. You noticed the shopping bags on the floor. The old lady living next to you would always leave them in the hallway full of food and pick them up later for God knows what reason.

“How did you even bump into the-” you started but stopped to think, “nevermind, I think I don’t even want to know”

“Yeah, better not” he laughed and you did too.

Mark was one of your neighbors. He went to a dance or music academy or some sort of artsy thing like that. You had also met two of his friends: Lucas and Chenle, a very weird couple of friends, but still. Mark was cute and you’d hear him practice almost every night. You didn’t know him that well, but you did know he was a very talented and hardworking young man.

You had forgotten you were still in the hallway and the situation was getting awkward.

“Oh well, try not to bump on anything else. Have a great night, see ya” you said, flashing a smile and immediately regretted it given the fact you looked like shit. You had forgotten about your hair and the state of your clothes and just went out like that. Well, this is embarrassing.

“I’ll try, but can’t promise anything” he joked and damn why had you never noticed how cute he looked with his glasses on. Totally irrelevant, but the sight of him was suddenly making you feel some kind of way. He was wearing a red shirt, slightly unbuttoned and his neck was very exposed. Your mind started to wander in areas it shouldn’t have, so you quickly recomposed yourself and was ready to get back inside.

You quickly waved him off and got back in. You immediately checked yourself in the closest mirror and shit were you looking like a dead fish. You sighed, making your way to the couch on another adventure to find a distraction. You could’ve finished all the assignments in the meantime, but again, let’s not. Two hours had gone by since your morning encounter with Mark and you were wondering if he was doing anything more interesting than you. You don’t know what was going on in your head, but you suddenly found yourself texting Mark like that wasn’t the weirdest thing you could’ve done at that moment,

[11:34] You: Yooo hey! I know this might look weird but like are you busy?? I really need something to do please help:(((

You sent it, trying not to feel nervous. Since when had you become this bold, Miss.

Surprisingly, you received a reply very quickly. You stared at your phone’s illuminated screen and was ready emotionally to face rejection, but what you saw was totally different from what you had imagined. [11:37] Mark: heyyy I mean if by busy you mean trying to get some work done but failing then yeah totally busy!!!

[11:37] Mark: how about you come n help me tho?? I kinda need some help... nothing heavy jusy some light help and opinions haha

Better than nothing, right? You rapidly typed a reply and tried to be a bit more presentable. After you’d fixed your hair and changed clothes, you got out of your apartment and headed to Mark’s. You knocked on the door patiently tapping your right foot. Shortly after, Mark opened it and let you in.

“Long time no see” he laughed and you smiled. That was lame, but somehow still cute.

“Yeah, feels like ages” you replied. He motioned you to move from the entrance and go to his couch. His laptop was thrown on it and there was a camera on a little stool facing the couch. He noticed you staring and quickly started moving it.

“Oh this, I was recording myself for a dance assignment” he explained and you nodded. Not like he owed you an explanation anyway. You sat comfortably on the couch and he moved the laptop out of the way.

“So, what work were you talking about?” you asked and he got his laptop again typing something on it. He showed a seemingly dance video on the screen. There were two people: one of them standing in the middle and the other one dancing around them. You were confused, to say the least.

“I have to recreate this and I really need someone to be my partner. You just have to stand in the middle and act as a helper, in a way. It’s really nothing complicated” he explained and you started laughing. He looked at you trying to understand your sudden behavior.

“Me???Dance? I look like a fish out of the water, so I don’t know if this was a wise choice, Mark Lee”

“No no no, you really don’t have to do anything special. It’s just a performance tool. Pretty please, I really don’t want to practice with my lamp again” he pouted.

“Your what now?” you asked imagining him dancing around a lamp.

“Don’t ask any questions” he sighed, “so? please?”

He was practically begging you at this point. Darn it. You threw your hands back in defeat.

“Okay okay, if that makes you happy. Your video will turn out shit because of me, just watch” he laughed at the last remark and suddenly grabbed your hand. He brought you to the center of the room and put his laptop back on the couch facing you.

You spent a couple of hours practicing over and over. Actually, Mark spent hours practicing while you did some weird arm movements and changed position from time to time. It wasn’t the most exciting activity you had ever thought of doing, but it was nice. You felt good and he was making it worth it. The only thing you didn’t like was that you were sweating. You weren’t even moving much, but just the mere physical activity mixed with the heat made you want to collapse and never wake up.

There was a particular move during the dance that made your face unreasonably hot. Mark had to spin around you and put his hands in front of your face. After that, he’d have to bring his hands lower until they were holding your waist and bringing you down on your knees slowly. That was the ending part. It was very cool, but what was not cool was the feeling you had every time he would do that. You had to admit that at some point you did actually think of him doing the exact same thing to his lamp, but that thought was too short.

It was already 7pm and you had no idea time had passed that fast. You had already recorded the final piece he needed to turn in and were now sprawled on the couch.

“Ugh it’s so hot I’m dying” you whined, putting one hand under your shirt and shaking it, attempting to freshen up.

“Yeah the only way you could escape is taking your clothes off,” he said mindlessly. He didn’t realize what he had said until you laughed. He blushed, mentally punching himself.

“I did not-I didn’t mean it like that” he whispered following a nervous laugh. He was flustered and damn did that make you feel good.

“It’s okay I got it. I’m not the first one to take their clothes off usually anyway” you teased and he looked at you, his stare fixed on your face.

“Mhm, what a coincidence! I don’t take my clothes off first either” he commented back. He really didn’t have to.

“You should probably make an exception then” you were now getting closer and he was slowly letting go of his laptop. Were you really about to [redacted]?

“Give me a reason why I should” his tone started getting more teasing and his voice became deeper.

“You might regret it later” you were now basically stuck to each other. Your back suddenly crushed against the couch, Mark’s lips getting closer to yours. You were breathing so heavily someone might’ve thought you were a dog.

“Maybe I need one more reason” his right hand caressing your cheek, he pushed himself over your shorts. You groaned and shut your eyes unintentionally.

“Mark, just please...” your voice could hardly be heard. His lips started touching yours when the door abruptly opened. Mark immediately got off you, head turning around ready to cuss out whoever interrupted.

“Dude the fuck?! Since when? Also, lock your damn door ” Lucas’ voice was one of the last things you wanted right now. Behind Lucas’ tall figure, Chenle’s head peaked.

“What were you two doing?” he asked. Lucas laughed mumbling something like “rip next time let’s knock”.

“Nothing, we were just. We were... what are YOU two doing here??” Mark was having trouble forming a complete sentence and both Lucas and Chenle started laughing hysterically.

“Bro chill, are you that flustered?” Lucas asked and that made you giggle.

“Anyway, move your ass. You’re needed at the studio” Chenle explained quickly, pretending to wipe off a tear on his face. “We’re so sorry mademoiselle!! We will let you finish your business next time”

You shook your head getting up from the couch.

“Well, I’ll see you around,” you told Mark, grabbing your phone you approached the door.

“See ya” you greeted Lucas and Chenle. You closed the door behind you and sighed when you were alone in the hallway. What kind of bad luck is this?

You jumped a bit from a sudden adrenaline rush and emitted a dumb little scream thinking of the events before the two idiots interrupted you. You reached your apartment and went straight to bed. You opened your phone ready to text Mark, but he had already done it.

[7:47pm] Mark: uhm now I kinda regret it not taking off my clothes first, so can I try again?
