Mama had been travelling with the rangers on a roadie and she was so upset she couldn’t be with Mat when his one wish was to be with her.
She’d stopped at the only bakery open this late at night picking up the one cake they had left before she got home. Mat was on the couch watching a movie, looking at the door when she walked through the door a smile immediately growing on his face.
“Hi sweet girl” he mumbles, standing up and helping her take her bags off.
He looks at the box and she smiles “Happy Birthday baby”
Mat leans down to kiss her softly, savouring her as he’d missed her all week.
“Best birthday ever”
She laughed “you haven’t done anything, I told you to go home with your family”
With the playoffs happening, the islanders had been kicked the first round and now the rangers were in the final.
Mat frowned “and miss my birthday with my best girl? Hmm I think not”
She pushed him away jokingly “Ok you flirt go sit” and he does, situating himself on the couch while she lights candles on the cake, turning off the light and singing
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear barzy… happy birthday” and placing the cake infront of him. He’s beaming at her before blowing out the candles and pulling her over the table to kiss her.
“Happy Birthday baby boy”
“Best. Birthday. Ever”

Well it could be right. It's as good a theory as any. And certainly the blue tick thing felt like an attempt to further the whole "post truth" thing. But I do have to say as a theory it is also the most perfect encapsulation of Twitter users. The idea that they'd look at someone tanking the site and automatically think "well it must be because we're so incredibly important" is just so Twitter lol.

as someone who developed a crush on my advisor in college who is 15 years my senior and got married to him last year, an 11 year age difference in your late 20s is not bad, imo. people are too squicky about age differences in general.

no actually though this is really cool to hear! i love hearing success stories like yours. i think age gaps when you're in your teen years/early 20s have the potential to be problematic but definitely once you hit your later 20s onwards they become ~less important~ (with the qualification that it HIGHLY depends on the people on the relationship). everyone's mileage may vary. i've just always been someone who thinks anyone older than like, 33 or 34 is ~too old for me~ but this surface-level crush of a 39 year old has actually fucked me up

This is not gonna be super helpful, but the skillset you described is pretty useful anywhere so don't undersell it - e.g. I'm a mechanical engineer and while there is also a lot of physics and math understanding involved the core of every good engineering organization I've been in are the systems engineers that get to know who's working what components, what's important to them, and mediating any conflicting priorities that result. Less personality based than what you may be used to, but just an example (I'm not suggesting you go to engineering school; it pays well afterwards but is *rough*).
anon this is really helpful and interesting...like for example my dad was an electrical and mechanical engineer and really wanted me to be an engineer but while I am not super interested how items work, I am more interested in how systems work?? Or organizations?? Sometimes I feel like the thinking is the same whether it's an engine or an agency. The mosaic is very important to me in that regard, but this isn't a skill I know how to articulate well on my resumé. I admit that I do use this skill in my current job (paralegal) but not as often as I would like. is there a job that's a systems engineer for people?? i will have to research

No, we don’t. It's really smart though to have a videographer following him on tour. If he wants to make a documentary or a film in the future they'll have a lot of footage they can use. So i'm guessing it's for the vault as you say.
