HOW-TO: The Running of an Evil School

Disclaimer: Please Do Not Try This At Home.

Rafal has a habit of following studies done by other unethical psychologists who've earned such infamy that all Never pedagogy is driven by them. There are several few who've been elevated to the status of household names, known for their dastardly methods. All the Evil professors recognize them and their foremost publications at Rafal's behest.

Today, Sophie read from one of the academic journals he subscribes to.

Sophie: A new publication by an accredited Woods psychologist called Skinner has led me to believe we've been running our School all wrong these past few years! He's famed for his work in behaviorism in the field of education!

Rafal: Let me guess. Is he an Ever psychologist? Evers have such delicate, sensitive psyches. Even the slightest bit of trauma sets them off for years.

Sophie: By that name, he sounds like a Never. Besides, I just read that punishment only teaches students to avoid punishment. They become better at evading it by lying, so I don't think it's effective.

Rafal: But what we've done has been working, hasn't it? We've had successful alumni, aside from the 200-year curse.

Sophie: I suppose you could be right.

Rafal: Anyway, we don't want to eliminate or extinguish problematic behaviors. That may hold true for Evers, but for Nevers, undesirable consequences reinforce exactly what we are trying to teach. Evil is our aim, is it not?

We punish them so they become better liars and perpetrators. So they are stealthier and more cautious, more clever in their cheating.

We don't want pro-social behaviors from them! We don't want to elicit healthy, emotional regulation from them! That's the point, my love.

For a student to work hard and succeed, or for a student to cheat and succeed—there is little difference here at our School because our professors design classes to be cheating-proof, against traditional methods. Thus, succeeding by cheating already innately requires a student to possess some proficient level of stealthiness, of cleverness, of guile.

And, when you're a Never in the Woods, survival depends on results, not the means you use. That is our advantage over the Evers. They fuss about how they go about doing things and who they impact, but to Nevers—it doesn't matter.

Simply stated, they don't care about the unintended ramifications of their actions, as they rightly should, to best serve themselves and their endings.

They will do anything to emerge victorious, and we should pride ourselves on that fact, on their resourcefulness and the desperation that drives the darkest hearts.

Sophie: That's all well and good, darling. I know that already. You and your monologues. Same old, same old. [She feigns a yawn.] On an unrelated note, our School desperately needs a makeover. The Nevers' faces are positively scabrous, and I have half a mind to mandate facials, if they resist!

i was looking at mai’s design again just as you do and this has no relation to the mv, theories or anything really but I LOVE her shoes????

I used to have a pair similar to them (sadly they are old and broken and gone by now) but now i wanna go find similar shoes all over again

also unrelated i really love her design it’s just so pretty — but also not overly bright or complex (say, compared to levi’s stark blues and purples or ace’s red and orange).

In fact she’s almost muted, like she’s supposed to be this background character — which is what she was made out to be at the start, if not a mystery unknown character for us to solve — interestingly enough, who can blend into a crowd (thinking of min here who described her as “average” though that was probably more referring to her grades — though most describe her in those quotes according to what they noticed about her, not strictly about her looks and before seeing her title card the only hint to how she looked was teruko’s flashback scene) yet also stand out if she wishes.

Practical, maybe: she wears gloves (though I may be overthinking this, thank you kirigiri kyoko),

And: She is wearing what looks like a standard hope’s peak uniform.

(Actually. Nvm. This is an analysis post. I started writing this as a funni little drabble of: omg i love Mai’s design so much!!!! and it turned into this. ah well.)

No, but, whats interesting is if you compare the anime’s Hope’s peak uniform, you should note how Mai’s uniform appears to include a black blazer that she wears tied around her waist.

Why is this important you may ask?

In the anime, the talented students wore brown uniforms (blazers) while the reserve course students wore black blazers. In Min’s bonus episode, we see Mai is getting tutoring from Min, and I’m pretty sure she’s wearing a brown blazer?? Or she’s not and I’m misremembering, again, correct me if i’m wrong — I think it’s the lighting in that particular scene that’s making me think this).

Also, from Min’s episode, we can assume then that normal lessons take place within this new and improved Hope’s Peak’s Academy — or do they?

Of course Min would be taking lessons like any good student, that’s her talent, she’s got to nurture it. But why would Mai? Unless her “???” talent relates to academia, then it strikes as odd, as comparing to what we know of Hope’s Peak, Main Course students aren’t really strictly needed to attend normal lessons. So long as they hone their talents, they’re basically allowed to wander the campus and do whatever.

So unless the teacher figure Min speaks of acts in a similar way to Yukizome in forcing the class together to bond and experience their highschool (college?) years together, why is Mai doing regular school work? Why does she need tutoring, why bother keep up those grades at all? She doesn’t seem particularly on board or interested in studying, as Min shows, Mai is prone to distractions: she spends the bonus episode getting Min to talk about her origins (and why is that? That’s another thing I’ll touch on later when i remember to) and procrastinating from her studies (same, Mai).

But Mai could be a reserve course student trying to work for some sort of talent — and she’s lucky, because say, in their class, on most days, the Ultimate Student herself joins their ranks within their halls (because the main course doesn’t teach their students normal lessons, apparently in their buildings, so Min has to come down to them). And then Mai jumps to get to know her — or maybe that’s just something that happened over time, Mai just gradually drew Min closer, despite her being “average” in Min’s eyes.

Because there is something about Mai that has enthralled all (most? not sure where Teruko stands because all we know is Mai was searching for Teruko. Also Eden i’m unsure of, as it describes her calling a number — who’s number? why? i have so many questions on eden’s quote I can’t lie) of the cast into adoring her, and I’m guessing it’s nothing malicious — it’s just who Mai is. She’s clearly loved (if the quotes don’t convince you then the words in the mv pointing towards her should) dearly by the majority of the cast, and I think that’s just from her being her own self. She’s just one of those people who is just likeable. Someone who draws people in, who is approachable, who is someone who just had that sense of “you can rely on/trust them”

The “dearly loved” as opposed to Teruko’s “dearly unloved”.

And yes, Mai is an Ultimate technically as displayed by the “Ultimate ???”, but what if she wasn’t at the time of the bonus episode? What if she was a reverse course who then discovered or cultivated a talent (or, if similar to Hajime, was chosen for some sort of project? Was that what killed her? Is that the consequences she didn’t foresee in signing up to a program?). Maybe her talent was linked to how she connected to all the other Ultimates. Maybe the number of “???” translates to “God” as the same amount of characters as shown in a few quotes here and there (i think?? correct me if i’m wrong) in the mv. It would certainly explain their devotion they seem to have towards her.

Though, again, this is just speculation.

Another small note on the uniform: it’s simple. Almost shockingly so. It reminds me of Mukuro’s actually (in her first appearance — shirt and skirt alone) and how it almost suggests how plain she is, before you remember once again that she’s a part of something bigger — is something bigger (and in Mukuro’s case that’s Ult. Despair, but in Mai’s it could be the opposite).

And that’s something else — a wild left field guess i’ll touch lightly on here, but will eventually do something deeper on later — we all know about hope and despair and yadayada but I think, definitely, in some way shape or form, Mai represented Hope. She was the symbol of that class’ hope, if not bigger, yet she burned out far too fast and now her fate is uncertain. So either that hope flickered out too quickly (think side: despair Chiaki) and was killed in order to break the class and there was some great tragedy, or she was being built towards becoming that hope.

As in, she was a reserve course or something similar but started making changes around her, just by being herself, a natural charisma that charmed and delighted the people around her. She grew close to people and inspired them in turn. She was genuine, friendly and honest. People respected her for her authenticity; she was someone reliable, trustworthy, determined, kind. She was on her way into becoming an Ultimate — maybe she was granted it, and she was flourishing. Maybe she started to be pushed to hard, spread too thin — we don’t know yet. She was a little naive maybe, head in the clouds, forgetful (as shown in the bonus episodes from what I remember, again correct me if i’m wrong bc I haven’t rewatched in a few months), and so she didn’t think of any underlining threats — she didn’t think she was a threat to someone (the mastermind). She didn’t foresee the consequences to being such an open symbol of trust, a symbol of Hope, and she died for her lack of awareness. Or betrayal. Or however she died.

So i. terms of the “simple” design as I put it, it’s first used to throw you off. You don’t think much of her. She’s an unknown, sure, but because there’s nothing on her, you sort of dismiss her. When Mukuro’s face is revealed, there’s nothing really to suggest she’s a soldier, or a member of Despair. She is dressed in a shirt and skirt (highly impractical, thanks danganronpa), and you look at her and go “her? really?” and then you remember she’s potentially the mastermind or the one hidden somewhere in the school, watch out for her, and then immediately reevaluate her and her importance.

I think the same applies to Mai but in the opposite direction; Mai is — or was — the supposed symbol of Hope for this class, and at first she was nothing more than a mystery, but now we see her with the knowledge we’re slowly piecing together and we go “aha! it’s you! you’re the one they all love! (why is that?)” (i am also guilty of this i’m a mai akasaki truther i love her i too have been pulled into her charm). We sort of dismiss her at first and then we notice her, we see her, and we point fingers in delight because it’s her!! She’s important in some way for the plot!

We are already reevaluating her and how she fits into the storyline. What her fate is (or was), and how she links all the cast together. Maybe i’m wrong and she was a main class member. Maybe she wasn’t the symbol of hope. But this is just my evening rambles (and my procrastination in avoiding the tally5 thing bc goddamn i started to get really frustrated. so. i wrote this instead. you’re welcome??)

I am fascinated by Mai. I don’t know if I’ve actually properly said that yet, and maybe it’s obvious (well, duh) but yeah!

Hester X Gender Neutral ! Reader Headcanons

I imagine she'd be a good listener, but may not even let you know she's listening, you talk or maybe don't even talk and just portray behaviour that tells her all she needs to know, yet you most likely won't understand that she's writing everything down in her head.

She isn't a good gift gifter, Hester may give you a dead animal here and there, a spell to cast on your enemies, maybe if you're lucky something handcrafted, like a necklace or bracelet, but it'll probably be made of bones or twigs. It won't be comfortable to wear, but the thought counts, right?

You'll probably think she hates you at first, Hester, especially if you're at the top of your class and a Never, is cruel and unrelenting with her rudeness. Pushing you, playing pranks, cursing you, all slightly harmless, yet still most likely to leave you bruised or crying in some way. She genuinely doesn't mean harm, well, she does, but she believes it'll impress you.

If you're an Ever, she definitely does understand you may not like her, and tries hard to lessen her cruelty, but it's part of her nature. She wants to show herself to you, to let you love her as herself, not as a soft Ever.

The dream was lovely, a bright yet comforting meadow, birds chirped happily and flew around me. I smile, the soft grass and breeze makes me sigh, laying my head down to the grass I close my eyes. Something makes me itch, I look down to see some kind of bug, 'no matter' I think, and simply go to gently push it off, but then it bites.

If you're a victim of bullying, especially if you're an ever, she has a 'toughen up' attitude, and although it shows she cares it's rather harsh. Hester will teach you never spells that you've never heard of because of how horrific they are, even if you're a never, a harsh and deadly one, she teaches you things even you'd be hesitant on casting. Specifically to use on your bullies, or as she phrases it, your 'enemies'.

Hester doesn't share anything, food, clothes, spell books... Not until you give her incentive to.

You mention you haven't eaten today? Have some food that's been in her pocket for a week, probably stale, but she insists since you've been loudly complaining for so long, you made one random comment under your breath you didn't think she'd even hear, you may as well.

You got put in the doom room so your clothes got torn, or are you wearing something too hot or cold, or maybe it's not fitting you? Have a spare top, trousers, or dress that she can modify with spells to fit you in, she has ones that are for colder weather, ones that are hotter weather, and complains that you look too miserable and are annoyingly complaining to her otherwise. Regardless on if you do either.

You're behind on classes? A spell book she has 'lying around', if you're an ever, you may be wondering how Hester managed to get an ever spell book, to which she tells you to shut up and just take the damn thing.

Extra scene I thought of!

(There's some bugs)

I yelped in pain, it didn't feel like any normal bug I'd been bitten by before. In my momentary panic I smack it by accident, screaming in shock when more burst out, hundreds of bugs crawling and biting my leg all over. My head begins to ache and I hear voices all around me, small hands shaking my shoulders.

My eyes snap open to see one of my roommates, rushing me out of the room with everybody else in tow, all of them try to help me, smacking the bugs off and screaming as they also get bit. I drowsily look around, noticing a dark figure behind a corner, the second they see me looking, they go back behind the wall and walk away. They looked like a Never.

Unknown to you, Hester feels a small smile on her lips, less like a smile, more like a demented smirk. She cackles a little, your screams were like music to her, there's no way you don't love her now! This is how her mother's coven sister impressed her one, you would have to be in love with her, you're an Ever, you'd fall for anybody.

I don't want to derail @theshitpostcalligrapher's post, so I'll make my own. Anyway, they were really nice to @theworseshitpostcalligrapher on this post, where the latter rewrote the same three words in a similar style in a reblog. (So it's really nice all around - there's acknowledgement of what's going on, there's approval, there's building up.)

And I wanted to share a story.

Back when I was in primary & middle school (grades 1-8 over here in Romania), I was a very, very earnest kid, a bit naive, but when I loved people or things, I really loved them. Keep that in mind for what happens next.

We had 1 hour of Art class/week all throughout middle school, but our middle school Art teacher Did. Not. Teach. I can't emphasize how much teaching didn't happen. We had to have watercolors/tempera and a paint brush, and he'd tell us things like, "Paint something Olympics-themed" or "Draw something for the local theater festival". Then we'd get grades based on how nice our paintings/drawings were. That was it. That was all.

...I found out things like the human body having proportions only when I was already a student, while talking to my future bff. I found out tempera isn't "watercolors, but in a tube" even later. But never mind that.

My middle school best friend had talent, though. She was naturally Good At Art and she came up with this amazing style (well, amazing to us 12 yos) where she made up big drawings out of tiny pencil doodles - asterisks and spirals were among her favorites, I think. It was not quite like typewriter art, because her doodles didn't overlap, but typewriter art + Pointilism + doodles is the best way I can describe it. The rest of us hadn't even thought about using a pencil.

I was in love. And I could sort of understand how she did it, so I started... copying that. I wanted to try it out for myself, do the thing. I changed the basic doodle shapes, but I kept the general idea. (I would have preferred something realistic and colorful, but I had no idea how to do any of that; see: teaching, not happening)

My colleagues called me a copycat (understandable). My mother called me a copycat (*sigh*). Even my teacher called me a copycat (I'm wondering vaguely if that's why he never taught anything, so we'd never end up copying a style we saw, *le gasp*). One must never, ever do what someone else is doing! ORIGINALITY!!!ONE! Figure it out yourself, in your own way!

Adult!Me thinks our teacher could have used this as a Teachable Moment to talk about why her drawings worked and to point us in the direction of similar artists or whatever. Or maybe he could have realized I wanted to learn something and pointed me in the direction of, I don't know, a book about how to draw, maybe. If he didn't want to teach his class himself. But I digress.

I was left feeling bad and like a complete loser. My best friend at the time mocked me, too, because of course she did. As far as I know, when we got to high school she never drew again (we were no longer friends by then, due to unrelated reasons).

It feels particularly wonderful to me to come across people actively encouraging and helping each other to learn, even if they're walking paths others have walked before. I never learned how to draw, but I did learn how to write stories, and there's a lot of fumbling around and imitating others to see what works and why before you become good. It takes so much practice. It's hard.

And sometimes maybe you just want to do The Thing for yourself, and that's also fine. Who the heck cares if you decide to have your own Van Gogh-style painting of your own bedroom on the wall of your bedroom?

Anyway, it makes me so happy when I see creatives being creative and sharing things with others. It's probably very flattering to be the only one at the lonely top, but when you have a community and you can learn from others, everyone wins more.

ty for asking! at last, an excuse to talk about fic ideas I’ll never fucking write!!

(I feel like everything I’m writing sounded different in my head, but after actually writing it down- why)

so first up, my hc for what happens after camp

I just don’t think it’s realistic, yknow? and we’ll get into what I think Max’s home life is like later!

but anyways, obviously school comes into play sooner or later- now, for sake of convenience, let’s assume they live in a place where middle school is grades 6, 7, and 8. (Where I live it’s only 7 & 8).

now in my hc Max’s birthday is somewhere in late summer so he’d be 11 right in time for middle school. now with all my hcs for camper ages, this makes Max & Nikki 6th graders, and Neil, Harrison, Preston, and Nerris 7th graders. Dolph is in 3rd grade, space kid in 4th, and Ered & Nurf in their first year of high school.

now, once again for the sake of convenience and “because I said so”, maybe the schools kinda in a smaller town and the school doesn’t have a lot of kids, so they kinda put all the grades together??

does that even happen in real life? no clue, but it’s fucking happening in my au

now I hadn’t thought about this until right now but,, ugh the flowerscouts and woodscouts exist- ok-

Sasha, Erin, and Tabii are 8th graders. Jeremy’s in 7th grade, Snake’s in 8th, Petrol and Pikeman are in high school. if I ever get around to writing a fic im going to ignore the existence of the woodscouts tbh

List of stupid things my best friend and I did during our literature classes, that our dearly beloved teacher will probably judge us for until forever :

I'll be calling out @arsuns-ramblings here >:]

• Cutting a paper sheet in the shape of a stick man, then making a slipknot out of a cord, before passing it around the "neck" of our paper man, and hanging it down on one of the classroom's window's edge.

• Arriving to class with a couple of pinecones, then when she came to our table and saw them, she reacted like "uh okay?? Pinecones????", causing us to turn to one-another with big, delighted smiles, and both excitingly saying "PINECONES!!!" at the same time. (we had forgotten how they were called)

• Bursting out laughing after she said the most random things that had remembered us of some obscure references. (this happened a great couple of times)

• Noticing us giggling silently for something absolutely not related to the class topic, but unable to stop laughing. (once again, it happened several times)

• Including her in completely unrelated-to-class debates between just the two of us, at least once a week.

• We definitely tried to teach her some of our shady references so she could understand what was making us laugh (she didn't).

• Debating on the ethic of her exercises whenever possible.

• Including a little "(nice)" after writing 69 in one of our homeworks, and forgetting to erase it before handing over the said homework.

• Saying "we already saw/knew that" EVERYTIME she was starting to talk about a topic we had already studied the year before.

Any Pokémon anime thoughts? Ik you haven’t watched all the series yet but I’d love to hear ur thoughts on what you think ash is up to since his anime series ended and idk general animeverse hcs. I remember you had an au abt ash opening a Pokémon sanctuary and I’d love to hear more abt it if you have more thoughts and ideas related to it

Btw what series have you watched or have knowledge abt outside of xy just for future ref bc I know u haven’t watched bw yet so I’ll hold off on my Burgundy rambling until you do so you can have some context.

Admittedly I have only watched a part of the very original series and a quarter of the XY series (Mainly because I've been watching Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal) So a lot of my knowledge of the series as whole is limited to what's fresh in my mind and whatever my brain death gripped from middle school. I'm working on it however! Honestly XY is your best bet to get convos about cause its my comfort generation but I think after XY I wanna watch Journeys or the SUMO anime (I like the artstyle)

But! I do have thoughts about where Ash and Co. are and what they're up too despite this.

I do remember talking about Ash either becoming a Professor or opening a sanctuary. Iirc it's because of how frequently Ash is willing to risk his life to save Pokémon. I stand by this idea. I think after he's satisfied with being a trainer taking on gyms and participating in Leagues he returns to Kanto to form a Sanctuary with the help of Sammy Oak, Brock, and Misty. (Unrelated but I wonder if Prof. Oak ever tells Ash that he was that kid he made friends with. I'm a huge Pokémon 4ever fan LOVED that movie as a kid).

I can see Ash calling his pals in other regions for help on this project. Some of his friends are specialists in certain Pokémon types or (Like in the case of Clermont and the aforementioned Brock) certain fields. Brock being a breeder can help Ash make habitats that are the best suited to house and rehabilitate Pokémon. Clemont could make Inventions that could both assist the Pokémon and/or the staff (by this point I'd like to think he's experience enough to keep most of his inventions from exploding prematurely).

I like to think that the goal of the sanctuary is rescuing Pokémon and rehabilitating them. Either to be released back into the wild, help with scientific studies, or to be adopted by trainers. We know that in the canon of the series there are abusive or negligent trainers as well as Pokémon that are difficult to raise or picky about the trainers they take too. I think Ash is the best at handling those kinds of Pokémon given his Charmander and his Froakie.

I can see the building being used like a trainer school. New trainers can attend classes to learn the basics of battling or even just Pokémon husbandry. There's a lot of little things to the world of Pokémon. What food is best for your partner, what berries help what conditions, what to pack for a journey, how to read a map, how to use your equipment, what to do in Pokémon encounters, ect. Maybe a retired professor oak teaches there. Maybe brock and Misty make special appearances to teach classes.

In my mind Bonnie is one of the first people to attend. Finally old enough to start her journey without her brothers supervision and eager to get started. Of course she's there with Dedenne her partner Pokémon and maybe a newly caught Pokémon pal (I think Clemont deserves to help bonnie with her very first official catch) that she excitedly shows Ash.

A retired rocket grunt James is hired there because lets be real James is also super compassionate towards Pokémon and if he doesn't get to live the rest of his life happily raising (and reclaiming his Pokémon from Giovanni) then I'm going to riot. I feel like that's one of his very first goals. rescuing Pokémon from Giovanni and finally reuniting with Growlie.

As for Jessie. I think she too is down to get her Pokémon back from Giovanni. But once that's settled I like to think she goes back to Kalos to continue performance. I always liked that she was a talented performer. And maybe even returns to studying nursing.

Meowth I don't think would like sticking around the Sanctuary all day despite how great of an asset he is given he's basically bilingual. So instead he ends up traveling with Bonnie and Max (the siblings of Ash's friends going on a journey together is the coolest idea to me). Meowth I think would enjoy the traveling. This time he doesn't have any evil plots to carry out and isnt 'blasting off again' every other day so this time he can really take it all in. He doesn't 'belong' to either kid but he's there to help keep them safe as they get a footing on traveling without their older siblings. Plus if the sanctuary needs him to play translator Ash or one of the staff can contact him he knows how to use a phone.

In a similar vein to Bonnie and Max travel companions I think Bonnie makes proper friends with Lyn (the girl who's bag got mixed up with hers). That's slightly unrelated but I love that episode.

I have a ton of thoughts about this Idea. Its not one that I think about often but when mentioned my brain runs wild and I can only imagine how far this pseudo Future au can expand as I see more characters

(Honorable mentions Because I love them but Trevor would become a professional Photographer, Shauna is a long standing Kalos Queen who's about to step down to try something new, and Tierno does successfully beat a league before switching his focus onto dancing but still battles for fun)

Wild stories about my family:

-My grandmother was born in France but she went to Spain to go to a boarding school run by nuns. She got expelled when she told a nun that her beard was itchy. She then went to a DIFFERENT boarding school run by nuns…and ran into the same nun (who was apparently fired from her previous job for unrelated reasons).

-We had a famous tree but it fell down. It was really big and really old and everyone was like “holy fuck that tree is really big and really old” and then it became a symbol of the area.

-My cousin makes horrible French rap music. We keep telling him to stop. He doesn’t listen.

-My great grandmother (who I’m named after) had my grandmother right in the middle of WW2 and when some Nazis tried to force my great grandma to let them stay with her, she yelled at them that she’ll kill them if they wake up her baby, and they left 💀

-I don’t know if this story is true but it’s been passed down for generations. An ancestor of mine was a personal guard for Napoleon and he was once walking next to Napoleon in a snowstorm and Napoleon said, “(His name) your foot is bleeding.” And he responded with something to the effect of, “I know I just didn’t want to say anything.” This is evidence that personality traits are in fact genetically inheritable

-My great grandfather fought in both world wars, despite kind of being too old to fight in WW2. He was also a prisoner of war for some time in WW2 (and I think in WW1 too)

-When my grandma married a Jew and converted, her parents were NOT happy. Yes my great grandpa fought in both world wars but he was also devoutly catholic and not cool with his daughter’s family being Jewish. Then he met my grandpa and immediately decided he likes Jewish people now. My grandpa is just kind of…like that.

-When my parents were in their homophobia era, my grandparents used to sneak me books about gay characters. They were all really long books about old gay men that I couldn’t read because of ADHD and dyslexia but I appreciated the gesture anyway. And from what I could read, I gather this Dorian Grey fella was pretty interesting.

-My grandpa has gotten arrested multiple times for protesting (in his youth AND now) and didn’t attend the 2020 protests solely because he was in bad health at the time (hip surgery).

-My grandma knows Brazilian Portuguese but the woman she hired to clean for her (after her back became too bad for her to clean) was from Portugal so my grandma just…became fluent in Portugal Portuguese. This is her sixth language she’s fluent in. (First is French, second is Spanish, third is English, fourth is Brazilian Portuguese, fifth is Latin)

-My aunt liked Jules Verne so hard that she got to meet the president of France. Literally. She teaches a whole class on Jules Verne.

-Speaking of my aunt, she has a dog who put my entire arm in his mouth when I was 6 years old (I didn’t care, he was a puppy and he was just teething a little), fought a bear (and won), and saved my uncle’s life by alerting my aunt when he fell down the stairs. My dog is afraid of his own farts.

-My grandma is obsessed with this invasive plant species called Black Swallowwort. She goes to her neighbors houses and insists on getting rid of it for them. She put together a whole group of local gardeners against Black Swallowwort. Even the local Jehovah’s Witnesses get annoyed by her door knocking.

This is only my mom’s side of the family because the only noteworthy thing about my dad’s side of the family is their satanic shrine to Ronald Reagan so I don’t talk about them.

1st place, 23 votes: “Boys over Flowers” (2019)

Miharu Ayu: The fight scenes she has against Sakurako (played by Oto Kurisu) and Rui (played by Seino Asuka). I always love seeing Yuzuka in fight scenes but this show was extra special because they were staged as fistfights, which is pretty rare for Takarazuka and made the otokoyaku even more masculine! Seeing her using her whole body to protect Tsukushi (played by Shoroki Mirei) really moved me.

Takasho Mizuki: Domyouji (Yuzuka)’s dance during the song Metamorphoses. I have no other words for it other than that it’s the definition of coolness.

First Place, 9 votes: A Teacher

Haryu Mitsuki: In rehearsals, I often see her politely teaching Madoka (Hoshikaze Madoka, Top Musumeyaku) and giving advice to the younger actresses in a soft and gentle voice. So I think that if she was a teacher she would pick up on her students' weaknesses and kindly teach them how to overcome them! And maybe during break time, she’d play dodgeball and other games with her students?!

Tsubasa Anju: If Yuzuka was my teacher I would give it my all and study so that she would give me her praise! And I would never sleep during class (laughs).

Yuzuka’s Comment: Being a school teacher must be a very hard job to do, but maybe if I could teach something completely unrelated to the performing arts it would feel like a hobby. For example, how much I enjoyed history classes at school always depended on what period was being taught. Also, I always found it exciting how the structure of each class would change based on the period we were studying. So I think it would be fun if I could teach with some pizazz like they do in high school dramas and films.

Hina Ririka: I’d have heart-eyes if I saw her as a handsome pilot!!! She would definitely be the number one most popular of them all!!

Serina Ei: When I saw her on the national tour pulling along her case as she walked, I thought she would definitely look amazing wearing a pilot's uniform and pulling a carry-along suitcase!!

Yuzuka’s comment: It would be cool to have an impressive job like that wouldn’t it? I’ve often thought about how wonderful it would be to speak fluent English and get to go back and forth between loads of different countries like international flight attendants do. I haven’t done anything to qualify for a job like that though! (laughs)

Toho Elisabeth 2022: Der Tod Comparision Analysis

After years of being a fan, I finally had the opportunity to see Elisabeth live for the first time this autumn. Me and a friend managed to defeat the odds and nab tickets for not just one but two dates, each with a different Der Tod (It's customary for most Toho musicals to have double, triple, or sometimes quadruple casts of its principal characters in their musicals). It was such a fantastic opportunity to see different actors' interpretations of such an iconic character, and seeing as the last Toho-beth was not filmed and previous recordings have not included every cast member, I thought I'd write up a report here for those curious!

Both Tods, Furukawa Yuta (Silver Tod) and Yamazaki Ikusaburo (Purple Tod) brought new and interesting things to the character that I’m really excited to discuss!

ZuCasino, Yuzuka Rei: October 2022

Long time no translations! It's been a busy year but I finally found the time to finish an interview that I really really love, I hope you are able to understand more about Rei with this sweet Q&A! ZuCasino is a current segment in Takarazuka Graph magazine where prominent otokoyaku get interviewed via a series of casino-style games and questions. October was with Yuzuka Rei. I've tried something a little different this time around where the first time an actress's name is mentioned I link her takawiki page. I’m always secretly looking forward to the speeches she gives on the first day and the last day of a production because we get to hear her express her feelings honestly to all of us. Yuzuka’s comment:That’s something I care a lot about so I’m really happy to hear that. Even when I have things planned to say, I make sure to not forget what's most important to me when I speak.

Mikaze Maira: When she gives her name on Takarazuka Sky Stage and says “I’m the Flower Troupe’s Yuzuka Rei”. Ahh her AURA! Her NATURAL SEX APPEAL! Oh! She's...The! Cool! Beauty!!! She makes my heart beat faster (laughs).

he looks alive and well and actually well he may have More Time before all hell breaks loose in room 1006. Because as much as I want to believe and kind of hope for there beginning to be a positive outcome I am Doubting it

Izunavi seems to actually be considering some things giuliano said about the book of Tyson or Taithon and yay now were getting more exposition for Tyson as well

Hes Got a good idea for a less... bloody outcome of the war and you can conclude from that hes beginning to hear Tyson out from his tohughts on it but Izu Do you even know the extent of the beast?? No!!! Nobody does PLEASE WAIT

And also im just thinking shouldnt Giuli and Izu be teaching the other people nen because none of them went to kurapikas class . What will Tyson do with Nen

Tyson reminds me of Akhenaten and I think she’s the reason why I was so entranced by Our book “Akhenaten: Dweller in Truth” or wtv in english last year.

If you dont know, He was a Pharaoh who had been so odd and shunned by everyone and pushed his beliefs of monotheism but he was Very very peaceful and forgiving and insisted that the power of love would prevail. He would say these exact words (in the second speech bubble):

I cant make this up!!!!!

Idk how historically accurate that book was, but gosh I loved comparing Akhenaten to Tyson so much in that book.

Also like. unrelated but At least in this unofficial translation whats up with tysons pronounce Like I think what this now implies is that Tysons siblings use He and everybody else uses she bc of 1 time where Tserriednich used He and also this guy

Im glad to see that giuli retains his personality even though his brain chemistry has been altered slightly to be more Tyson oriented. But god I am still kind of convinced he’s doomed bc of whatever the hail that “taboo” is.

I think that the taboo is like actively harming the other princes in any way and the way that the room 1006 plot seems to be heading Giuliano and Izunavi since they are hunter bodyguards and are more knowledgeable about Nen and its huge significance in the war and stuff could maybe plot something against other Princes...

Uh oh! So since Giuliano has read the book over and over again probably he will definitely get the worst of whatever consequences there are in store for him, and also Izu is p much protected since as far as we know he hasn't even read past “Chapter One: Love Will Always Prevail”

Please do talk about homebound! What are the main characters like? Do they get along pretty well? What do they study at the magic school?

Sorry it took a while to answer, but I hope this is satisfactory!

The main characters of Homebound are Angel, Orion and Marcus! They were the first characters to exist and remain the most developed in the story.

Angel (she/her) is a Fallen Angel (the placeholder name stuck and now I can't change it-)

She is the main protagonist of this story as we follow her perspective in learning how to be "human". Angel doesn't remember why she fell, and tries to understand what caused such a thing while also finding a way to get back. She's well-meaning and always polite to everyone she meets, sometimes to a fault.

Orion (they/them) is a Selkie, or more generally an Elemental Creature. (There is an entire hierarchy of races, but more on that later-!)

They act as a little bit of an antagonist at first, as they're incredibly unfriendly towards Angel out of prejudiced fear (oooh, secrets and lore). However, the two warm up to one another over time and grow very close as friends.

Marcus (he/him) is a Fey Creature. He is an immediate friend of Angel's, dragging Orion along in 'guiding' her and generally helping her out around the school. He's something of a trickster, causing minor inconveniences here and there, but he's immensely protective of those he is loyal to.

Orion and Marcus are long-time friends, and funnily enough I haven't actually decided on their first meeting! I do have ideas though, and I might post a mini comic if I ever make it. Orion is incredibly closed off at first, and Marcus is an unrelenting charismatic idiot. The two of them balance each other out very well, with Orion being reasonable and grounded while Marcus encourages a bit of fun and freedom every now and then.

When Angel arrives, Orion is immediately on the defence. They sit back while Marcus takes the reins in showing her around, teaching her bits of history and other fun facts about the school, all while they're just trying to pass class.

The school system is somewhat underdeveloped, but as for their studies I'll pick their favourites!

Marcus is a history and geography nerd. He excels in humanities since "it's just hard facts", and considers it one of the most useful classes to have under your belt.

Orion takes more social/legal related classes, particularly regarding the systems in place. They're a strong advocate for the dismantling of the current hierarchies, though tend to keep that to themselves unless provoked on the matter.

Angel enjoys the art class. Finger painting, pottery, just making things directly with your hands! She has a love for tactile creation as she's never really gotten her hands "dirty" before. She would also love gardening!
