rick and morty codependence very wounding very complicated because morty would not be in this situation at all except for rick, rick's early insistence and pressure and terrorizing, so technically rick MADE morty like this, we all get that, it's fucked. but ALSO at some point. at some point. around mid-show—actually i'm going pin it EXACTLY at s3e6 20:04 when "healthy" morty puts down the phone without hanging up—morty chooses rick back. morty WITHOUT his insecurity, without his fear, without his dependence on rick—he has the opportunity and capacity to escape and instead he says take me back home.

and it's like a crescendo up to this moment where you see morty staying with rick IN SPITE of what he does, not because of it. morty cleaning up rick's puke and his bombs and his messes. morty needing time away from rick and manipulating him into getting it. morty knowing he has the ability to make rick do anything he wants, including leaving, including getting in his ship or stepping through a portal and never coming back—morty knowing all this and still saying, stay.
