Damn Teenagers and their Satanic Rituals | Winchesters and Hawkins Crew
Prompt: Crossover
Words: 1155
Fandom: Stranger Things x Supernatural
A/N: You have no idea how many different fics I tried to write to fulfill either of those prompts but I couldn’t finish it before I had my eyeball doctor appointment. Then my laptop crashed because of the dang usb printer bug that’s still not fixed and then the wifi stopped working so… late writer's month entry.
Summary: The Winchesters are teleported to a small town called Hawkins in the year 1986 where a great earthquake had hit. They’ve been through enough world-ending events to know that it was no ordinary earthquake.
-
“Great. This is just great,” Dean grumbled, “Kids need to stop messing with satanic rituals, man. How many times we gotta step in because some demon is wrecking the town all because some girls at a sleepover found a demonic book at a random bookstore and ran away from home? And look! Where the hell are we, ‘cause it sure ain’t Kansas. Cas! Get your angel ass over here!”
Sam huffed, taking in his surroundings for clues. They had been tracking a group of missing girls who were obsessed with conspiracy theories and the supernatural who ran away from home as soon as the demon they summoned started killing people. Sam and Dean took care of it quickly and had to find those girls before they did something that could cause harm to anyone else and themselves.
They ran far, even taking night buses before their trail got cold. Cas had to help locate them and teleported the brothers in the middle of a forest where the girls were holding a ritual. Something went wrong and the brothers were engulfed in a bright red light before waking up on the cold hard ground.
He followed the sound of cars and horns bleeping, coming up to a cracked road lined with fully packed cars and moving vans. Old cars, he noted. His eyebrows raised as he spotted a large wooden sign just beyond the treeline. He stumbled over, his brain still foggy from sleep. “Hawkins?” He frowned. Where did he hear of Hawkins before?
“Well?” His brother asked, coming up behind him. “The hell’s goin’ on here?”
Sam gestured to the sign. “At least we’re near a town, but it looks like everyone’s… fleeing from something.”
Dean let out a world-weary sigh, tilting his head up in exhaustion. He squinted his eyes, realizing the discoloration of the sky. He stepped out closer to the road, seeing heavy plumes of smoke coming from the town. He exchanged a look with his brother before approaching one of the cars. The woman rolled her window down, looking up at his with a wary look.
“Hey, uh, where’s everyone headed?” Dean asked, flashing an innocent smile. Start with simple questions, play ignorance.
She frowned, turning her head to look at her husband. “Are you an idiot? There’s been a fuckin’ earthquake that split the town!” he shouted, leaning over his wife.
“Gerald, language! The kids are listening,” the woman scolded.
“My bad. My brother and I were out camping when it happened,” Dean said with a shrug.
The woman nodded in pity. “Well, if you head into town, they’ve set up a shelter at the school’s gym. I’d advise you to be mindful of the roads and stay indoors. Military and disaster relief said there’s some toxic gas that was released from some underground tunnel system that burst when the earthquake happened.”
“Government coverup, just like last time when that girl died,” her husband interjected.
“Excuse me?”
Before he could get an answer, the car started moving again. Another exchange of looks of worry between him and Sam, another hellish nightmare that they can’t avoid.
They started making their way towards town, the plumes of smoke getting closer and closer as well as the stench. Whatever it was, it wasn’t anything sulphuric. Dean pulled out his phone and cursed, seeing not only no service, but the screen blanking out.
“What the hell is going on?” he muttered.
“Dean?” Sam called out, hitting his arm.
Dean looked up, his eyes widening at the sight before him. Now he knew why that lady warned about the roads. Giant cracks split one of the roads completely with a strange red-orangish glow emitting from the gap and smoke leaking through. A military truck drove through slowly, a soldier signaling them to keep moving. Sam asked him where the shelter was and he stiffly pointed in the direction before tapping the hood of the truck to drive. They kept moving, feeling the road almost endless, until they decided to cut through the woods.
“So, what are we thinking?” Sam started.
“Thick smoke? That giant crack in the road? And I’m talking giant, like, it just kept going to practically the center of the town,” Dean said, gesturing in the vague direction of the road. “So, what, we’ve got another apocalypse on our hands?”
Sam grimaced. “Cas not answering?”
Dean shook his head. “Come on, Cas! If it’s another apocalypse that heaven and hell wants to start up again, now would be a good time to tell us!” They waited a beat, turning in circles to see where the man might pop up. Nothing.
“Well, one way to find out,” Sam muttered, jerking his head to a log cabin that he could see just up ahead.
They jogged ahead, slowing down once they were within hearing distance of the cabin. There were cars in the bushes, covered in branches and leaves, the windows heavily boarded up as well as a large hole that was simply patched up instead of a proper fix. There was a muffled thud coming from inside, followed by a hiss. They silently agreed to split, rounding the cabin in opposite directions.
Just as they stepped closer, Sam’s food got caught in a hidden tripwire, setting off an alarm. The brothers cursed, looking for a place for cover when a large bald man with a shotgun came out, leveling the barrel on them. He narrowed his eyes, observing them closely.
“You lost, fellas?” he asked, his deep voice rumbling.
“Uh, yeah,” Sam said, stepping forward. The man jerked the gun in his direction. Sam raised his hands in surrender, stepping back again. “Truth is, we don’t know what’s going on. We’re trying to find the town and ended up finding your cabin.”
“Dad,” came a young girl’s voice. A girl with her head also shaved stepped off the front porch and approached the man. She reached out and squeezed his arm, a tattoo of the number eleven shown on her wrist. “It’s okay. I saw them coming. I think I know why they’re here. They can help us.”
The man, apparently her father, grumbled as he lowered his shotgun. “No funny business, okay, boys?” he said before stomping back into the cabin.
The girl smiled at them. “I’m Eleven,” she said, sticking her hand out.
Sam frowned. “Eleven?”
She nodded. He hummed, sending a confused look at his brother who gestured to just go with it. He took Eleven’s hand and shook it. Her smile widened, then she turned to Dean who readily took her hand and shook.
“Come, let’s meet the others,” she said. They began to follow her until she stopped. “I forgot.” She held her hand out and the tripwire moved on its own, resetting itself. When that was done, she nodded and turned back to the cabin.
“We’re definitely not in Kansas anymore,” Dean muttered.
“Yeah, no shit.”

Back in Hawkes Bay with another load for the rest home. Power is on but there's a heavy rain warning tonight and it could go out so I'm being slightly crazy about charging my devices any chance I get. We've got a phone charger in the car, I've got my portable power supply which is fully charged, and I have a fully charged USB re-chargable camping light. I'm also making sure my laptop is on full charge, not because I'd use it if the power went out but because I could charge my phone or the camping light from it if I had to. I'm being totally paranoid because the portable power source alone is enough to charge a phone 12-15 times, but things are freaky here right now.

Mobile Power Enhances The Wonderful Experience Of Travel
In recent years, with the changes in the concept of outdoor life and the upgrading of outdoor equipment, ascetic outdoor travel has gradually faded away. New ways of outdoor travel have emerged, especially Glamping, (luxury camping), which has become popular on ins recently, and is becoming a popular outdoor trend. If you want to have a wonderful travel experience, mobile power is undoubtedly standard.
Under the influence of this trend, more people hope to enjoy comfortable modern travel while being close to nature. Among the outdoor equipment you bring, the outdoor mobile power supply can best enhance your outdoor travel experience. After all, if you want to enjoy a quality and comfortable life outdoors, you cannot do without electricity.
Tumblr media
With outdoor mobile power supplies, such as car refrigerators, rice cookers, camping lights, projectors, mobile phones, etc. can be used. The outdoor power supply greatly improves the quality of outdoor life, completely getting rid of the ascetic outdoor life.
However, there are many outdoor power supplies on the market today. Many people are at a loss when choosing, mainly because they don't understand outdoor power supply equipment. Therefore, regarding outdoor power supply equipment, I recommend a Powerfar outdoor power supply that can be charged by solar energy.
Beautiful appearance, convenient and easy to carry.
90° rotatable handle, storage integrated to save space, convenient and easy to carry. With reading lights, high-intensity LED professional outdoor long-range lights, SOS emergency signal lights, mainly used indoors and outdoors.
Tumblr media
With an intelligent digital display system, it can monitor voltage, current and temperature changes in real time. Powerfar outdoor power supply can charge DC and AC to meet the needs of various equipment. Equipped with 13 interfaces including AC, DC, USB, Type-C, and car charger, it supports simultaneous power supply for multiple devices.
Various charging methods
Support mobile phone wireless charging, 10W fast charging efficiency increased by 50%, smart charging does not get hot. Type-C bidirectional input and output, rechargeable and dischargeable. PD60W fast charging protocol, suitable for a variety of models, fast charging, full automatic stop.
In addition to charging with traditional 220V, it also supports charging using the car's cigarette lighter. Although the charging in this state is not as fast as charging the Powerfar mobile power supply at home, if you charge while driving while driving, you can achieve long-distance self-driving and charging at the same time.
But the most amazing thing is that Powerfar mobile outdoor power supply also supports solar charging. A-grade monocrystalline silicon solar panels imported from Japan can generate stable power, and the charging time is about 8-15 hours. Even in the uninhabited suburbs, as long as there is sun, with Powerfar mobile power and solar charging panels, the power shortage problem can be easily solved. This way of obtaining power is cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
Seven equipment models to meet various power needs.
Tumblr media
There are 7 models to choose from, choose the power supply device model according to the actual power consumption. They are 7 models of BS100S/BS200A/BS300S/PS300/BS500S/BS700S/BS1000S, with a minimum capacity of 40000mAh and a maximum capacity of 288000mAh. As small as a mobile phone, as large as a kettle/electric hot pot, it will provide you with the necessary "electricity" in modern life at any time!
Experience
Outdoors, when mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras, projectors and other electronic devices are short of power, a Powerfar mobile power supply can meet the power needs of each electronic device. Charging at the same time without interfering with each other.
Tumblr media
If you want to eat delicious outdoors, cook a meal and bring a Powerfar mobile power supply device, which can also meet the power supply needs.
Finally, to sum up, if you don't know how to choose an outdoor mobile power supply, you might as well refer to this article. This article recommends you the Powerfar outdoor mobile power supply, I think it will be very suitable for you, it is convenient and easy to use. More importantly, it allows you to use electricity as conveniently as at home when you are doing outdoor activities. With Powerfar mobile power, it is very convenient to cook in the wild, watch movies, read books, hold parties, etc.

Packing: Self-Supported + Hotel Tour
(part 2 of 5) I'm gradually going through past trip notebooks and random Google Docs and jotting down all my packing lists in one place.
For a week-long ride like Berlin->Copenhagen which is self-contained but involves staying in hotels every night and is not far from civilization, I pack fairly light, since I have to carry everything on the bike and don’t have to carry camping gear or significant food or bike repair tools. This type of trip often involves a few days after the riding in a city, so I want clothing I feel comfortable walking around or going out to a restaurant in.
Tumblr media
A good list for me for what I can fit in two small panniers (in addition to the tools / accessories / etc already on the “always on the bike” list):
Clothes:
(2x) padded bike shorts, to wash alternate pairs in hotel sink each night (3x is more convenient in case one doesn't dry in time)
(2x) quick-dry boxers (also to wash in sink)
(6x) socks
(2x) wool t-shirts to bike + walk in (assuming moderate climate)
(1x) long shorts (to wear over padded shorts, with pockets)
(1x) basic sleeping t-shirt
light gym shorts (to change into immediately at end of ride to “let everything breathe”)
small pack towel, mostly for impromptu swimming stops (since hotels will have towels)
bathing suit (redundant a bit w/ gym shorts)
flip flops
bike cap
rain shell / windbreaker
jeans (wore on plane, then packed away and saved to dress more presentably in the evening or on "city days")
one light + fast-drying long-sleeve shirt
one warmer button-up shirt (worn onto plane, then does dual duty as warmth or "looking more presentable in restaurant")
I just ride in regular shoes that are good for walking as well
Electronics + Paper:
outlet adapter
phone charger + cable
bike computer + microUSB cable
front and rear lights (also microUSB rechargeable)
noise-canceling headphones (a luxury, helps with sleeping on international flight, may skip next time)
larger USB battery pack (enough to recharge everything overnight in case of a hotel without enough working outlets for me + travel partner)
notebook and two pens (having your own pen is frequently useful at border crossings)
kindle or paper book
phrasebook
passport / ID / vax certificates / etc depending on trip
Other:
panniers (ideally with external pockets or ability to ride open-top to hold bulkier items like bottle of olive oil / wine / beer, loaf of bread, etc)
dopp kit
several days of my favorite pick-me-up snacks
safety pins (quick garment repair + clean out debris in phone port), duct tape, zip ties
map
masks
a few Covid rapid tests
earplugs
extra ziplock bags
two trash bags (for double-bagging possessions in panniers in heavy rain)
backup pair of glasses
Sometimes I add:
waterproof pants and shoe covers (useful in rain, but I also find they get sweaty easily, and in the heaviest rain I find water still finds a way in after a few hours, and they take up a lot of space). A blog reader suggested looking up "Rain Legs"
full-finger gloves for cold days
other warm clothing as needed, though I find I rarely want legwarmers or other base layers beyond the above
instant coffee / a few teabags, in case of a very basic hotel or airBNB that doesn't provide them or has late breakfast hours
bug repellent
Looking back this seems like a long list, but this all (barely) fit in the two small panniers above, and those panniers fit in the small tote bag below that I used to carry or check them as "one item":

Positivity And Negativity Among Futel Champions And Detractors
In the early years of Futel, any publicity would draw comments from whiners predicting that the phones would be mainly used by drug dealers and their customers. These interactions are ignorable, of course. Anyone who has actually done anything will be familiar with the swarm of low-effort trolls who emerge to point out the perceived flaws that doom any idea. That's understandable, the modern world produces many people with unfulfilling, empty lives, and being negative about the efforts of others is the weakest and easiest way to deny that reality.
For the case of drug transactions, however, there is some truth. Futel phones are sometimes used to coordinate the buying and selling of illegal drugs, and probably many other activities which benefit from anonymity.
The relationship between illegality and immorality is not always direct, and there are many illegal activities that we would be glad for Futel phones to facilitate. Obvious examples are easy to imagine, like the arrangement of abortion and other birth control services, or communication assistance for undocumented people. Even buying drugs, meh. Meth and other drugs have seriously harmed many people, and we aren't happy that our phones could help someone buy or sell meth, but whatever. If someone is addicted to meth, or engaged in the shitty job of directly selling it, taking away a phone is not the way to help them.
There are many illegal and many immoral activities which we would not like our phones to be used for. It is also clear that the positive uses greatly outweigh the negative uses. I've spent a lot of time hanging out near Futel phones, and I've heard all sorts of unpleasant words spoken into them. I've also heard "I love you". And there have been nice notes and graffiti left for Futel hosts, thanking them for specific ways that the phones have improved their lives.
The balance is that it would not be possible to prevent all the possible immoral and negative uses of our phones without also preventing the moral and positive uses. How much negative use is there? We can't know without severely compromising our principles, but it's tiny, come on. And our phones aren't an effective way commit crime. As we tell people, "we don't listen to your calls, but someone else may be".
We do attempt to guide how the phones are used, of course, by the capabilities we build into them. We would love to provide USB power, but we don't, because it would be detrimental for the service to have people occupying the space needed for phone operation while they charge their devices or watch TV or whatever.  Once, late at night, I was watching two people dancing in the light of a Futel enclosure. They looked high on something and were shuffling around, taking turns holding each other and kicking their feet. They had their stuff sitting on the sidewalk, I don't know how they were getting around, probably a cart. It was nice. Then one of them pulled out a folding chair. I cut the power to the lamp because I didn't want them to camp in front of the phone, which would discourage others from using it. Isn't that sad? They didn't get a free light to dance under because of the possible bad effects of them shooting up, nodding out, or just loitering at the phone for a long time.
For a while, there was a regular Futel user who would yell into the phone late at night. His voice was loud and raspy from inhalant abuse and from being fucked up all the time. The cops knew him by name, he stole my young neighbor's bike once and tried to make amends by leaving another which was too big and barely rideable. He used the phone to hassle his mother for money, and he could be heard down the block. I really wanted him to shut up and move on. But his mom kept talking to him, they had conversations. Was it positive or negative to give him free phone calls from the sidewalk? Both.
There are all sorts of stupid tragedy of the commons arguments which can be made from anecdotes like these. What is important is staying compassionate. We must avoid investing in the negative. That doesn't mean that we have to be always happy or even pleasant, but we try to have positivity as the foundation for Futel.
It is human nature to fail at this. I once answered a ringing Futel phone, and the caller addressed me by a name that wasn't mine. I enjoy pranking people who do that when they aren't in distress. I try to confuse them but keep them on the line as long as I can, and my rule is that I can't lie. The caller said that he wanted "more", and I realized that he thought I was someone who had sold him drugs, which is why he had gone along with my random questions and bizarre smalltalk. I tried to trigger some healthy paranoia by saying that I needed him to tell me exactly what he wanted, but he didn't want to do that, "just the same as last time". I was hoping that he would ask me a question that would clue him, but he was too focused. Eventually I told him to go to the outdoor tables of the Ash Street in an hour. I still hadn't lied and didn't say that I would be there or have what he needed. The phone rang again an hour later but I was unable to answer it because I was talking with my mother on another line. I would have asked him to describe what he were wearing and seen how much of his security he was willing to compromise, maybe have him use some code words or hand signals.
I shouldn't have used the phone in that way. I regret exploiting some poor sucker's addiction to lead him on and waste his time for my amusement. I didn't want him using the phone for drug transactions, and it was a harmless way to haze him. And I'm also naturally drawn to testing people. But compassion needs to be foremost.

Mozz Guard Reviews: Is The Mozz Guard Mosquito Zapper Legit Or Scam?
If you’re reading this now, likely it’s because you’ve been hearing reports about the Mozz Guard. It’s the newest iteration of a bug zapping device that Americans have trusted for years. We’re reaching the height of bug season right now, and if you like spending the summer outdoors, you’re going to want reliable protection. Not only are they a nuisance, but mosquitos often carry diseases that can cause long-term damage. If you’re sick of having to worry about annoying insects, we recommend choosing the Mozz Guard Bug Zapper. But, just telling you that isn’t enough. So, in this Mozz Guard Review, we’re going to explain why we favor this bug zapper above all others. However, if you came here looking to buy, we’ve also put site links to help you. Click any link, and you’ll find the one website where the cheapest Mozz Guard Price can be paid!
(SPECIAL OFFER) Visit Here to Get Mozz Guard For an Exclusive Discounted Price Today
Unlike most other zappers out there, the Mozz Guard Mosquito Zapper is just as good indoors as outdoors. Its nearly soundless operation and gentle blue glow make it compatible with relaxation and sleep, providing the perfect night light. Furthermore, it works without the use of chemicals, meaning it’s safe for children and pets. When camping, it replaces the need for a flashlight. You can place near your tent to offer illumination, or take it with you when exploring. It’s able to provide all of the lighting you would get from a handheld or smartphone flashlight, while also protecting you from swarms of insects. They’re drawn to the light, not to you, and will be humanely zapped away when they get close. If you want your summer to be bug-free, tap any of the links. You’ll pay the lowest Mozz Guard Cost available on the market!
How The Mozz Guard Zapper Works?
To charge your Mozz Guard for use, you simply plug it into any USB socket. When it’s time to light things up and/or blast away bugs, just switch it on! It emits a blue light that’s optimized to attract bugs within a 375-foot radius.
Experts have designed its glow to especially attract mosquitos. But, regardless of what breed of bug is spoiling your time, it’s all but irresistible. If all it did was draw them close, it would be enough to keep them off of your face and body. But, they’re also eliminated from the equation with a high-voltage blast that, surprisingly enough, makes hardly any noise. The bugs’ remains are stored in a canister at the base of the unit. When you’re done using the Mozz Guard, simply remove the cartridge, dump the remains, and rub it clean with a sanitized paper towel. That’s it! Then, return the canister to the device and it’s ready to go when you next need it!
If you have kids, then you’ve probably noticed that their blood seems to attract mosquitos more than yours does. Young people are more susceptible to infection than adults, so care must be taken to ensure they’re not exposed to mosquitos. The Mozz Guard Bug Zapper makes it easy to keep them safe. And, it doesn’t matter where you expect to find bugs; this is an all-weather device. The designers knew that their new model needed to be able to withstand some abuse. It can handle everything from rain, to snow, to intense heat. No matter what the temperature, nearby bugs will be captured reliably. We know you’ll be satisfied, but if somehow you’re not, the manufacturer offers a no-questions-asked, return-or-replace policy. Are you ready to claim yours? If so, tap any link!
Mozz Guard Features:
Optimized To Be User-Friendly
No-Touch Disposal To Prevent Infection
Odorless, Soundless Operation
375 Square Foot Range
1000 Volts Of Zapping Power

Mozz Guard Reviews
We’re very pleased with the performance of this bug zapper. But, others have shared their praise as well. So, rather than continue sharing our thoughts, let’s share a few of theirs. Here are just some of the Mozz Guard Reviews we’ve collected!
Bruce from New Jersey writes, “The East Coast can be brutal this time of year. I’m not talking about the weather, either; I’m talking about bugs! Mosquitos, gnats, beetles…the list goes on. Deborah from Missouri had this to say. “My family loves a good barbecue. What family doesn’t? But, especially at this time of the year, bugs can get in the way, flies especially. The only thing more irresistible to flies than the food we’ve prepared, is the blue light coming out of our trusty Mozz Guard Trust me when I say that it’s transformed our BBQ experience in a big way!”
Drew from Florida wrote the following. “We thought our home was impenetrable to flying insects. We thought wrong. Thankfully, we were able to snag this bug zapper, and now we leave it on and any bugs that intrude are quickly disposed of without bothering us first!”
Casey from Oregon adds, “Put simply, it combines reliability, convenience, and price better than anything else out there. The Mozz Guard Price is more affordable than other bug zappers of its kind.”
How To Claim Yours Order?
By now, you’ve hopefully made a decision whether to pick this device up. And, we’ve mentioned previously in this Mozz Guard Review how to get one. We’ve put links all over this page. Powering My Off-Grid Dreams: A Review of the Ultimate OFF-GRID Generator
Tumblr media
For years, I've dreamt of a life less reliant on the traditional grid. Visions of a cosy cabin nestled in the woods, or a campervan adventure across the country, all danced in my head. But the concern of powering my digital essentials – laptop, camera, communication devices – always loomed large. Enter the Ultimate OFF-GRID Generator, a product that has truly revolutionised my off-grid aspirations.
Unmatched Efficiency Meets Powerful Performance
I'll admit, I was initially sceptical. Could one generator truly deliver everything it promised? Having used the Ultimate OFF-GRID Generator for several months now, I can confidently say yes. This powerhouse packs a serious punch. Whether I'm running my laptop for work tasks or powering essential appliances during a power outage at home, the generator delivers exceptional performance. It's clear the cutting-edge technology translates into real-world usability. Even during peak usage, I haven't experienced any dips in power or functionality.
Adaptable and Versatile for Any Adventure
One of the things that impressed me most about the Ultimate OFF-GRID Generator is its versatility. Unlike clunky generators of the past, this one boasts a variety of output options. I can easily charge my phone with a USB port, keep my laptop juiced up with an AC outlet, and even connect essential power tools with a DC socket. This adaptability makes it the perfect companion for any adventure, from camping trips to remote work locations. The fact that it seamlessly integrates with solar panels and other renewable energy sources is a huge plus for eco-conscious adventurers like myself.
Built to Last: Durability Meets Portability
Living off-grid often means contending with the elements. Thankfully, the Ultimate OFF-GRID Generator is built to withstand the challenges of outdoor use. Its compact and lightweight design makes it easy to transport, fitting comfortably in the back of my car or campervan. At the same time, the rugged construction gives me peace of mind. I've used it in everything from sunshine to light rain showers, and it has never faltered. This combination of portability and durability makes it an ideal choice for anyone seeking an off-grid power solution that can keep up with their adventures.
User-Friendly Interface: Power at Your Fingertips
Gone are the days of fiddling with complex controls. The Ultimate OFF-GRID Generator boasts a user-friendly interface that makes generating power a breeze. Even someone with limited technical knowledge can navigate the intuitive controls and monitor energy output with ease. The built-in digital display provides all the essential information, allowing me to optimise power usage and ensure my devices are always charged. This user-friendliness makes the generator accessible to a wider range of people, not just tech-savvy individuals.
In conclusion, the Ultimate OFF-GRID Generator has become an indispensable part of my off-grid toolkit. Its efficiency, versatility, durability, and user-friendly design have given me the confidence to pursue my off-grid dreams without sacrificing the power I need to stay connected and productive. If you're looking for a reliable and innovative way to generate your own power, I highly recommend this exceptional product.

My family's rest home in Hawkes Bay got power back on Sunday, 6 days after Cyclone Gabrielle knocked it out. It went out for a few hours yesterday and 1 hour today but we were told to expect that.
It's really shown us where the holes in our disaster preparedness are, even though we have passed a dozen Ministry of Health Audits with the disaster kits we had, what the MoH and their auditors say will be sufficient is not. We're starting to stock up on the things we found we needed and when supply lines are better and things are back in stock we'll buy all the things that would have been reeeeeally useful. I'm also getting stuff for my own home kit. I've bought or will buy:
A portable power supply and solar panel charger for it, you can also charge from a car. It has a built in torch and you can charge any USB chargable devices from it several times, you can run a regular appliance from it but that will drain it very quickly.
A solar camping shower. Not very useful if there's no sun but it would have been perfect post cyclone because the weather was gorgeously sunny afterward.
USB chargable camping lights I can charge from my portable power supply.
Headlamps, way easier than a handheld torch.
I bought a little camp stove that runs on butane canisters after the 2017 earthquake here but I realize I did not have anywhere near enough canisters. The canisters last 10 years so I've given all the 6 year old ones ones from my kit to a cousin who was feeding 4 kids on the camp stove and I will stock up majorly on new ones.
Basically raid the camping section of your local department store, if it looks like it would be useful when you're camping with no power then it will be useful in a disaster.
Cash, the power went out, all the card readers were down, people needed cash and all the ATMs emptied out.
Milk powder, you can mix up only the amount you need and not have to worry about refrigeration.
Shelf stable food that is a whole meal on it's own and is easy to cook or heat through on a camp stove or BBQ. You're too exhausted to make a meal out of ingredients and it's too hard to make anything complicated. Also vitamins because the food I'm describing isn't usually very nutritious.
Cooking oil, that's the thing everyone forgot to put in their kits and ran out of from their kitchens.
TOILET PAPER!!!!!! You need a stockpile. It's the first thing shops sell out of. We're going to hide it in the ceiling of the rest home so that we have an emergency stockpile and no one can take off with a few rolls here and there until it's all gone
Baby-wipes. Deodorant. Dry shampoo. Clean underwear. We usually account for drinking water in our disaster planning but you don't know when you will next be able to have a shower or wash clothes.
Heavy duty rubbish bags. When the power goes out the stuff in your fridge and freezer can end up going very nasty. If you can; bury it in your yard (deep enough that animals can't get to it), if not you're going to need to tie it up tight in heavy duty rubbish bags and put them somewhere that they're not in the sun and not going to contaminate anything. Also if it's a flood you're going to have all sorts of fabric things that will be contaminates by flood water and will start to get very smelly very quickly and you'll want to bag up whatever you can. Rubbish is a major issue in Hawkes Bay right now because the main dump was flood damaged, the power was out and people had to throw out loads of spoiled food, a load of ready to harvest crops washed up in places it would be a hazard to leave them rotting, people were clearing out homes where EVERYTHING would have to be trashed because it was contaminated with floodwater that had who knows what in it (in some areas definitely sewerage). The council got 1 waste facility opened up 6 days after the flood but 5 of those days were blazing sun so you can imagine how nasty some of the rubbish is.
Also this is truely nasty but ziplock bags if you don't have a garden you can dig a latrine in, you may have to poo in a bag and you bet you're gonna want to be able to seal it. I have a garden but I'm going to put ziplocks in my disaster kit in case I need to dispose of any waste like used bandages.
I have meds for myself but I'm going to get hold of some basic pet meds. There's a lot of dogs in Hawkes Bay who are getting gastro bugs right now because their owners have taken them for walks in areas where the flood water's have gone down and it's dried out, but the silt is still there. The dogs have gotten contaminated silt on their paws, licked their paws, and now they're getting sick. I wouldn't take my dogs out where they might come into contact with contaminants but I want a few basic meds just in case it's unavoidable. Plus one of my dogs is on an anti-seizure prescription and it didn't even occur to me that I should put some of her prescription meds in the disaster kit with a spares of our prescriptions.
