random geist-isms i want to put in writing lest i forget them
‣ they pretty much never eat with their hands, even for foods it would be expected to. they are the type of person to cut up a pizza into small pieces and eat it with a fork. even for stuff like sandwiches they pick it up with a napkin instead of with their bare hands
‣ despite what people seem to assume about them at times, they don't really like anything that's overly sweet with them preferring bitter or spicy food. they especially like those chocolate bars that have chili flakes in them. which is a treat that is annoying for them to eat since they break it up into the little squares and then tear off part of the wrapper to pick up each piece to eat it
‣ they are incredibly touchy with people but only if they initiate the contact, they won't get angry if someone else touches them but they will immediately back away and wipe off wherever they were touched
‣ in general it's rare for geist to show any sort of real anger, they usually just play everything off as a joke
‣ they grew up as a mama's boy* and have never been particularly close with their father which obviously became an issue when their mother died when they were 12. their father remarried 2 years later which geist has always had an issue with even though they don't have anything actually against their step-mother [adam's mom]
‣ despite not being close with their dad, they are close with their extended family especially their grandfather [on their dad's side, also was geist i] and their aunt [on their mother's side]
‣ when in school they had the tenacity to keep everyone, besides angie, at a certain distance. they would happily talk with people and most people had a pretty favourable impression of them but no one could really say much actually about them as a person
‣ once angie graduated, geist didn't really have anyone to actually hang out with at school so they picked up the habit of just hanging out in after school clubs while waiting for angie or occasionally adam to stop being busy. this is how they met bianca, since she was in the computer club. not that they were actually very close but she still apparently left enough of a impression for geist to later invite her to be a thief
‣ people's general impression of them in school was this "that one gay guy into lupin who's friends with angie" or "[they're] nice enough but don't seem to like talking about [themself]" or "occhio fino" [<- more polite-ish version of finocchio which is basically italian for faggot]
‣ unsure if i have to actually say it after the last point but they historically haven't been out as non-binary to anyone but their close friends + family. although most people due figure out their some form of queer just from how they are, of course hanging out with angie [world's most obvious butch lesbian] doesn't help. geist themselves doesn't really label their sexuality [i would say they identify generally as queer, but i've had little luck finding a similar word in italian so...]

I’m sorry but if your only comeback to how someone uses a label for themselves (especially gender & orientation labels) is a screenshot or quote from a fuckin dictionary definition you got from a google search I’m not even gonna listen anymore tbh

Been thinking about this since finishing the show a few months ago. I've seen people say that Debbie being a lesbian came out of nowhere. But, I don't think it did. Besides Derek, which was a way for her to become a mom, a lot of Debbie's male relationships could be put down to comphet. Like something she felt she had to do as a teenager. She seems a lot more comfortable in relationships with women than she ever did with guys.
OMG!!! THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS, ANON- CUS OMGGGGG
as a lesbian myself who experienced comphet, that’s exactly what i’ve been saying. she really had no interest in a relationship until she had friends who were interested in it. like, little hank was when she befriended holly, matty was when she was with holly and ellie and they literally CHOSE him for her, and derek was, in my opinion, just her confusing platonic feelings for romantic ones. she asked carl about how to tell if a guy likes you and carl’s advice was wrong and she just seemed very confused about if she actually liked him or not. and like you said, derek was just a way for her to be a mom. derek’s (mom? sister? step-sister? sister in law?? idk) family member said that she got to be a part of this new family by having a baby, and debbie, having family issues, wanted that. she wanted to have a family with derek, but she didn’t really seem like she loved him. and all of the other guys she was with just seemed like she wanted them for the sex, not for the romance. the only guy she was with for a while was neil, who she used just to keep franny. i think that debbie was one, experiencing extreme comphet, and two, like every single one of her siblings, was getting herself into toxic relationships where she didn’t actually feel any romantic feelings for her s/o. plus, she was a teenager for almost every season so yeah, she felt that it was just required to do as a teenager, and correct me if i’m wrong but i’m pretty sure by the time she came out she was like 19. and yes, she seems a lot more comfortable! once she slept with alex she felt very comfortable (too comfortable, tbh) and seemed less uptight. same with kelly (if you count her), sandy, calista, and heidi. anyway sorry for rambling and probably making 0 sense but YESSSSSSSS!!!!

Love to be arguing with a cishet man about how the way he frames politics is a danger to me as a trans woman only to have him cite the fucking dictionary at me as if I'm unfamiliar with what words mean, cannot read, and have never had anybody try and challenge every part of my existence for my whole entire life while arguing I deserve fewer rights by citing the goddamn dictionary at me.

I’m really curious about this idea I’ve seen going around about how the term CompHet is only for lesbians. I understand that it was created and popularized by the lesbian manifesto, and is mainly used to describe queer women’s relationships to men and the patriarchy, but queer men are effected by the patriarchy too, and limiting its use to solely lesbians seems like it minimizes and simplifies the reach and effect of patriarchy on queer existence. I’m genuinely curious about why it’s closed, or why people are saying this.
In all honesty I’ve never read the source material, but the research I’ve done so far seems to be drawing a blank on this, and from personal experience in the use of the term, as well as personal (and solely personal) experience as a ‘lesbian’ (although I prefer the term queer, for several reasons I’m not sure are relevant to this discussion) leads me to believe using it for only lesbians doesn’t make any logical sense. From a purely dictionary definition of the words ‘compulsory’ and ‘heterosexuality’ it seems to me like it would make sense for anyone who is not straight to use this term to describe the experience of not realizing or understanding your sexuality because of the ingrained patriarchal and societal expectations that have been placed on us since birth. But I would really love an explanation, if anyone wants to enter that discourse with me.
Is this historical context that has been missing from the broader queer discourse that’s only just being brought to light? Is this gen z misunderstanding the historical context and narrowing of meaning? Both of these potential framing contexts for this have happened and happened recently, and are viable options. But I’m open to hearing whatever anyone has to say, as long as it’s in the spirit of genuine discourse, and not inflammatory or mean.

absolutely not directed at anyone in particular (esp since sooo many ppl do it), but. i am waiting impatiently for the day that we can acknowledge that women other than lesbians can be butch. like, in regular speech. not in "friendly reminders" but all the time. every time i hear the phrase "butch lesbian/transmasc solidarity" i'm like okay, sure, but you didn't specify the trans guy's orientation... so why do you have to specify the butch's

I just wanted to write a simple st fanfic where Robin and Will come out to each other so that they can be gay friends, now I have 3 (three) wips and the original still has a huge chunk that's off topic but it's not anything that could be a fic in and of itself but I really like it so I have to figure out how to make it work AND there's a huge piece of dialogue that's just in the ether now because I just rambled it while pacing instead of writing it down and I don't remember it but it was so fucking good and I keep having ideas and not writing them down because I don't learn from my mistakes. I am having a great time. I love writing. 👍

Dear @chainofclovers: It's not an ask. This is barely a coherent statement, but it's one I've been putting off for months. I had a moment over half a year ago about the impending loss of my feminist icons. Found your G&F fics. Tore through them. Read them over, and over. I know you're on to new things and that's amazing, but I had to thank you for that body of writing. You are incredible, and your writing has been so profoundly stabilizing. I simply cannot thank you enough.
💕💕💕💕
Thank you so much for this incredibly kind message. I would reply/message you directly rather than posting, but since it’s anonymous my only way to reply is to post. Hope that is OK.
I truly appreciate you taking the time to share this with me. Are your feminist icons Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin? I’ve also spent a decent amount of time pondering the dangers of what I could flippantly refer to as “stanning an 83-year-old” but what is actually a very simple yet profound experience of appreciating the contributions of people who were changing the world for decades before I was even alive and feeling grateful to get some overlap w/them on planet earth!
It means a lot to me that my G&F fics have been a stabilizing force in some way. Thank you so much for telling me.
(And yes, Ted Lasso took over my brain, but I don’t think one ever truly moves on from Grace Hanson and Frankie Bernstein! In fact I’m signing up for Femslash Exchange this weekend and y’all know they’ll be among the pairings I both offer and request!)
Thanks again, Anon, for spending time with my writing and sharing your thoughts w/me.
