Revising an older insectoid race, the Makari, now known as the Lepikari (Mothfolk in common tongue). A race of beautiful, moth-like humanoids connected via an emotional hivemind, straight from the Broodmother’s Tome. I hope you like bugs.

World: Inferous

Inferous is the second planet in the Atelocerath* system. Currently, its inhabitants don't know that Screeosh is inhabited, though Screeosh knows about them.

Climate:

On average, it's 33°C in the daytime and 29°C at night.

Atmosphere:

Despite the proximity to the Dancers, the planet is comfortably humid for its inhabitants. The center layers of the atmosphere are thick and rocky, trapping much of the moisture, with the strange, gravitational force holding the floating "islands" in place without being strong enough to crush life below. It's oxygen rich, which is attributed to the size of the sapient races and plant life.

Surface:

Iferous is rich in massive vegetation and wildlife, both on the surface and on the islands.

There are a total of eight islands with sapient life on them, with hundreds of smaller ones that are mainly home to plantlife. There are smaller, newer animals that have evolved there, but it's unknown how they got there in the first place.

There are three continents below, with two oceans and three seas.

Tectonic activity is frequent, the core of the planet still very young and it has yet to begin cooling and solidifying. Sapient life is smart enough to form their settlements far away from the most active fault lines and known volcanoes, but they know that they're not completely unavoidable.

Ocean water is safe for consumption for most species and races, the saline water more desirable than fresh water for drinking.

Sapient life:

4 known races:

Crepusca (mothfolk), inspired by the homebrew moth race Lepikari; many stay on the islands, but some cohabitate with the next race in the towering forests below; they're the most peaceful race but also the most aloof and self-centered.

Cicadohop**, homebrew cicada-like race that live primarily in the forests though they can also be found below ground where it's cooler they do not get along well with the Formici, however, and make their own cavernous paradise, far away from the antfolk.

Arcleks, arachnid like people and by far the most recognizably (by our standards) humanoid; they favor the deserts and plains.

Formici***, ant-like people that live primarily beneath the surface and are both the smallest and most advanced of the sapient races; they're the most territorial and have a deep-seated hatred for the Arcleks and the Cicadohops.

* Named for a slightly outdated classification hypothesis called Atelocerata

** Named for Cicadamorpha, an infraorder of the insect order Hemiptra

*** Named for the ant superfamily Formicoidea
