The Rougarou (original French loup-garou) is a familiar legend throughout French Louisiana. There are many variations, but the story generally involves a person who gets cursed, and becomes a flesh eating werewolf (or, occasionally, some other type of were-creature). Frequently the curse can be passed to another individual by biting them or draining their blood.

Water surround Japan completely. Yokai said to live in the vast oceans and rough rivers are numerous. More than once were people to be pulled down into the water never to be seen again. The kappa was a common culprit of these acts. Most areas of Japan have some variation on this turtle-like creature, even if some aren't very reptilian at all. These water monsters live in the rivers, waiting for someone to walk by. They would yank people under the water and remove their souls. However, there were ways around this deadly fate by tricking the kappa or offering their favorite food- cucumbers. Some creatures cannot be persuaded from their fatal encounters.
