I wonder if the Tadtones from Skyward Sword are the ancestor species of the Zora? They’re both aquatic creatures with heavy music symbolism, and in Majora’s Mask, Zora tadpoles are shaped like musical notes, just like the Tadtones. That’s pretty neat!

totk theory?:
(with other timeline stuff mixed in, for flavor)
everyone prepare your tits i went on a whole ramble in two diff discord servers and i need to share my thoughts
[VAGUE TOTK SPOILERS AHEAD]
SO. This all was started by me watching a theory video. In it someone said something about TotK being a closed loop (in reference to the time travel)—which I didn't agree with.
My reasoning, copied straight from my original ramble (with edits for grammar to make it easier to read):
The glyphs were supposedly made by ancient ppl after watching the dragons tears. But, they only appeared after Zelda time traveled
And, iirc, before the sword is sent back the light dragon is there. BUT she doesnt have the glowy light trails on her head yet.
Then I realized all that kinda falls apart bc tanondorf recognizes Zelda prior to her time traveling. BUT I can fix this.
Tangent time. I know this sounds really off-topic but I promise it eventually loops back to the original topic.
So, earlier today I was playing Hyrule Warriors (Definitive Edition) with my sibling, and we were talking about Ravio's weapons being called "rental hammers" and how it would be funny if, afterwards when he went back to his own time, he put those hammers up for rent for stupid amounts of money because, quote, "they have blood from the enemies from the era of the fallen hero in their grains" because he couldn't get it out when he cleaned them and decided, fuck it. I can make bank from this. THAT turned into a conversation about Hyrule Warriors' non canon status, and I said something along the lines of, "if Hyrule Warriors was canon it could solve the timeline convergence problem."
My reasoning for that:
It literally has all three timelines. its the whole fucking plot
^ though they dont stay together, it easily explains references in BotW. and the rock salt thing*
(*The "rock salt thing" is the fact that BotW's item description for rock salt references Wind Waker and basically says salt deposits like this exist bc of the Great Sea, despite this Hyrule. not being underwater. which raises some questions!)
And speaking of the rock salt thing–
I also posed the idea that, if you still dont want to consider HW canon for fun, you could just explain it by the Passage of Time. And just time in general.
THIS theory's explanation:
After Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass (both the same Link) is Spirit Tracks. Spirit Tracks takes place 100 years after WW and PH, and both of those games are like. pretty important to it
Spirit Tracks does not take place in the ocean. (For the most part at least. I don't know much about spirit tracks.) Instead, it's in "New Hyrule", which was founded by the previous hero and Tetra.
^ Basically they found a big ass fucking island (aka. a continent) and were like Yeah this looks like a good place to reinstate the monarchy.
So, even though Hyrule gets flooded in the adult timeline, we still end up with a Hyrule on land in that same timeline.
Slight topic change. BotW (and by extension TotK) is at the end of the timeline. At least 10,100* years after whichever game was most recent, and then some more to account for the first appearance of the Calamity. (Now. I personally am a fan of the theory that the events of 10k years ago actually took place before Skyward Sword (and these events are the Imprisoning War talked about in that game) but for the purposes of this theory we're ignoring that possibility.) (*More on this later.)
That's a lotta fuckin time. A lot can change in that amount of time.
Who's to say all three timelines didn't eventually end up in the same place? Kinda like the evening out of chaos states or whatever, I dunno I'm not a physicist.
And then. this is the part that circles back ok. Hylia, who is the Goddess of Time, just smushed them all back together into one because fuck it man, they're close enough.
I explained this by saying basically, that-
"Time doesnt work like that" as an argument for anything Zelda related is nullified by the simple fact that Hylia is the Goddess of Time and Nayru has significant power over time as well, and since they're both deities they can do whatever the hell they want with it. If Zelda, who is only channeling the powers of the Goddess Hylia via her blood, which—I don't know how goddess-turned-mortal blood works but this is probably a reasonable assumption—is diluted over tens of thousands of years, can go back 10k years, easy peasy lemon squeezy, then Hylia her-fucking-self can do as she pleases.
So the end conclusion to this one is that time can in fact work like that if an ultra powerful goddess of time wants it to.
And thus we circle back. (omg just like time travel,)
Now. All of this is to explain this idea: TotK is a closed loop, but only kind of. "What the hell do you mean by this, Cat," you might be asking. Well. It's simple.
Zelda's presence (in the past) and effects (on the future of that past) are guaranteed; her actions are not.
And what do I mean by that?
I mean that Zelda is guaranteed to time travel, and she is guaranteed to lead to the sealing of Ganondorf via Rauru's hand. This is to ensure the survival of Hyrule as it is in order for this Zelda to get to the point of this time travel in the first place—likely influenced by Hylia or other goddess to be this way so things stay stable. If this Ganondorf were to succeed, then. well. Hyrule would be screwed, because he"s kinda fucking overpowered with the secret stone.
(Now is "later".) (By the way—I don't know the full lore of TotK, but I'm pretty sure this all has to happen before the first Calamity. I would assume that the Calamity only existed as it did because this Ganondorf was under the castle; that's why the Calamity comes from/starts at the castle every time. so. Zelda actually would've gone back a good bit more than 10k years. Cool!)
Now. Whatever Zelda does to make that happen and whatever she does after doesn’t super affect the survival and state of Hyrule, for whatever reason. So, those actions are not guaranteed. Hence the whole dragon and Master Sword thing—the first set of bullet points in this post.
Oh yeah, and the light dragon also doesn't exist until Zelda time travels. That, or she's up above the clouds with all the sky islands, (which is probably the case, given the carvings behind the rocks in the intro section,) but I like the idea that, while that explanation is true for her, to everyone else she just appeared in the sky—similarly to how the glyphs have history but weren't present or documented till the Upheaval.
So, yeah. TotK is a sort of closed loop and that big sentence up there is what I mean by that. I bow dramatically, the crowd goes wild, etc etc.

Okay! I've been hearing a lot of people agreeing with the theory of the AH (Ancient Hero) being Rauru and Sonia's son/descendant. As much as how much it is a popular theory, I personally don't believe this theory. And since I haven't seen anyone else come up with a different theory of who the AH could be or disprove the current theory, so I might as well give it a try. What I'll basically be doing is giving some of my own evidence of why I believe the AH isn't a son/descendant of Rauru and Sonia while also giving you my own speculation on who/what the AH may be.
We'll start with one of the more well-known evidence, the appearance of the AH. Looking between the AH and the Zonai we know of (Rauru and Mineru), we can see the AH is more canine-like while the two Zonai have more of an appearance of what I thought was a goat or sheep at first, but when I was doing some research for this discovered that the Zonai have more of an appearance of llamas and alpacas (Would make sense for the sharp teeth the Zonai have since llamas also have sharp teeth to use for fights.) and I'm pretty sure that llamas and dogs are two different animals. Alongside that, the AH has a greener skin color compared to Rauru if you look at their models side by side. And before you say "There might be other Zonai that look like the AH!". I hardly doubt that. Sure, there MIGHT be some that look like the AH, but since we only have Mineru and Rauru to go off by until we get to see more Zonai's, I'm saying that the AH isn't a Zonai.
The next piece of evidence is actually one that we see in both TOTK and BOTW, but mostly in BOTW. What I'm talking about is the tapestry of The Calamity from 10,000 years ago, where we first see the depiction of the AH. This is the part where it feels more solid in my opinion. The reason why is because one thing that people seem to forget about the tapestry is the princess from it. So, let's say this princess is also the daughter/descendant of Rauru and Sonia, if that is the case, that would make her a relative, or even sister, to the AH. If that were the case, wouldn't they look more similar to each other? If you look back at the tapestry, it is clearly shown that she is very much human (Most likely Hylian), with a light skin color and sprouting the same golden hair that Zelda has. If the two were related somehow, wouldn't one of them be the same race as the other? (Like the princess being the race that the AH is or the AH being a Hylian like the princess.).
Sure, you can say that "The princess could have come from another kingdom to be wed to the AH" or "The AH and Princess not looking alike doesn't mean they are not related" Which could be true. But this final piece of evidence is something that I have no doubt behind, and that's the titles that the AH and Princess hold. Recall the cutscene of Impa retelling the legend of the 10,000-year-old Calamity. "...by a warrior wielding the soul of a hero, and a princess who carries the blood of the Goddess..." Notice anything? The Titles. The AH doesn't have a title of royalty. If the AH was really the son/descendant of Rauru and Sonia, it would make him either a prince or the KING or Hyrule!? And yet, there is NO title of the AH being one. either being referred to as "warrior" or "hero". Nothing about him being a "prince" or "king". And for those who are saying "Well! Impa is the one retelling the story, and her recount of the legend might not be true." Which something I would agree with you on if it wasn't for King Rhoam saying the same thing during his cutscene at the Great Plataue where he said, and I quote. "...We also learned of a princess with a sacred power and her appointed knight, chosen by the sword that seals the darkness..." He referred to the AH as a knight, nothing about him being royalty. If the AH was in fact one of royalty, then the Ancient Shiekah would have given him the title appropriate for his status, but they didn't because he was only a knight.
God! That took a while to explain! Anyway, that's the end debunking part of this post, now on to my own speculation of who/what the AH may be. I'll keep this short because this post is already getting long.
So I think the AH is in fact of the Links that we have not seen the story of (Like Hylia's chosen hero) and was part of the Barbarian tribe that was in the Faron region long ago. One, being the Barbarian Armor set having red hair on it, like the AH. And two, the Spring of Courage is found in the Faron region, with Link being associated with the Triforce of Courage. Granted, this is all speculation, but it would be REALLY COOL if this was true because it also gives us some info about the Barbarian tribe that once lived in Hyrule before vanishing.
Right! Thats the end of my whole shpeal. If you have gotten to the end of this long post, thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you have a wonderful day/evening/night!

Sometimes when I'm bored I just go out and read Wikipedia.
Today, I was in the midst of a deep dive into neolithic structures and art when I came across a mention of an artistic motif called a "cup and ring mark" and naturally I was curious.
Tumblr media
Here's one gorgeous example: the Perda Pinta ("Painted stone") from Sardinia (photo from Wikipedia.)
I thought "that looks familiar..."
Tumblr media
While the concentric rings in this case appear to be raked, as in a rock garden, this is not the only surface we see the same design on. It also appears on the underside of the pillars that let Link ascend out of the depths and on the metallic floors and ceilings in shrines, which, incidentally, appear to be made from bronze.
The cup-and-ring marks also date back to the Bronze Age. Given that bronze is also used in the Zonai shrines and possibly in Zonai devices, I think the Zonai were either inspired by or intended to be a Bronze Age culture. Which is fascinating, as they are also a very advanced society--advanced enough to create constructs that have lasted until the current era in Hyrule and smooth stones almost perfectly while balancing them with the widest sections uppermost.
I could even argue that the Sheikah golden age when the Divine Beasts were created could be an Iron Age to the Zonai Bronze Age, though that is on much flimsier grounds.
Just some interesting ideas to swirl around.

Random Theory: Could The Great Sky Island in Tears of the Kingdom be what was once Skyloft from Skyward Sword?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is the biggest island in the sky in TotK. Plus we don’t know what became of Skyloft after the events of SkSw. We don’t know if it came back down at some point or if it’s still in the skies somewhere. What we do know that that no one was living on it by the time Ocarina of Time came around.
Now I know both Skyloft and the Great Sky Island look VASTILY different, but It could’ve been possible that when the Zonai first arrived (whichever timeline that may be) they probably first settled down on the now abandoned Skyloft and used their magic to expand it.
What do you guys think?

okay so a mini theory. minor totk spoilers ahead.
so under the shrine of resurrection in the depths is a hot spring, which is likely what caused the shrine of resurrection to have its healing properties. but in the spring under the shrine, there are poes all over. I'm thinking maybe they're the souls of the shrine from when they were probably testing if it could work. maybe there were prototypes and those were just the people unlucky enough to have it fail on them. and this could also be a reason why they were unsure in botw if link would survive the shrine of resurrection. idk this thought has been stuck in my head for awhile

Skyloft’s Knight Academy
Tumblr media
I’ve always found the existence of the Knight Academy to be really strange. Skyloft is a peaceful floating plateau, why have they spent centuries training up defenders for a threat that doesn’t exist?
If you follow through from my Era of Hylia Lore, you’ll note that I established that the Hylians were weak and almost entirely relied on Hylia to protect them- which in many ways she enabled and may have even encouraged.
Well, upon acknowledging how that complacency almost caused their extinction and now that they are without a living Goddess to protect them, they decided to take the defence of their people in their own hands. At first people could go to the few skilled swordsmen left and learn their techniques, passing those teachings down their families and to others.
This became so popular that years later they established the academy; a more efficient system to both educate the youth and prepare them for conflict. This allowed the people to prepare strong soldiers who could defend their home should anything try to invade. This would have grown to become a cornerstone of their culture over the centuries, up until the events of Skyward Sword.
However, the concept of ‘knight’ in their culture is very different to what it is in Hyrule in HW or BoTW, since there is no royalty and Skyloft is a peaceful paradise. It just probably just meant someone who had graduated from the academy and thus could be called upon should an army need to be summoned. Professional ‘knights’ were in a sense glorified hall monitors or cops, keeping order from watch in the the sky, on patrol ready to save anyone if they fell off the island and solving everyday disputes among townsfolk.
In LU, Sky probably didn’t tell the chain much about what being a ‘knight’ actually means in Skyloft, hence why members like Warriors and Wild hold him to such high esteem. ‘Knight of Skyloft’ sounds noble and important, but in reality, Sky’s job is very different to and less demanding than Warriors’ and Wild’s. As they are knights in the traditional sense.
The academy was probably the foundation for the knight culture in Hyrule seen in the rest of the games.

You ever just. Look at the word "legend" in "The Legend of Zelda" and wonder if Link is kinda like Herakles, a hero who may have done some sick stuff but was pushed into legend territory and just keeps getting stories and tales changing depending on the area in hyrule you're in (Rito telling the story of Wind Waker, small regions giving you stories from the downfall timeline, etc) AND then you start wondering how close some of these stories are to the "true" Link and now you're spiraling into deep lore and the ruins across the zelda timeline using what little anthropology skills you've picked up to try and decipher the bag Nintendo handed you?

Bro the autism has won and now I’m wondering how Legend of Zelda can mention the fact that they had a civil war and all of the shady stuff the royal family had done in the shadow temple and in general. So, now I’m thinking of how the civil war started and I’ve seen some people think that it was started with Gerudo and Hyrule fighting but that’s not a civil war that’s just war between two nations/countries/tribes/etc (Gerudo wasn’t apart of Hyrule before the war). So, I think that Hylians were having inner conflict between themselves (hence why it’s a civil war) and the two (or however many) sides got allies to aid them and basically dragging everyone into their mess until the king was able to unite everyone into one kingdom and the Gerudos has to swear loyalty to the king of Hyrule
Idk I just love history, war, and world building so my brain is like “OHOHO BUT WHAT IF” so take everything I said with a heavy grain of salt but I wanna know what other people think about this lol

How Much Do The Iron Boots Weigh? theory
Hi. So, when I started this theory, I was REALLY hoping I’d get some conclusive numbers. If you read the title, then you’d know I was making theory on how much the weight of the Iron Boots from Zelda would be. Unless you’re blind and your audio readout thingie isn’t really working right. In which case, GUESS WHAT. THEORY ON IRON BOOTS.
So, when I started this theory, I decided to turn to the Iron Boots from Ocarina of Time. These boots closely resemble Steel Toe work boots. Great awesome. Get the measurements and weight of these boots, substitute for iron and done. Here’s the weight--WRONG.
My result should be something that would both sink a body and slow a man down when walking.
I spent a long time working on this and I came to...well...A conclusion you’ll see soon.
A guesstimate. I literally came to a guesstimate.
ANYWAY
The actual weight of a steel toe work boot depends on four things; model, style, brand, and size. Pretty simple.
The most common work boots, and the ones that look almost like OOT’s Iron Boots, would be the Steel “mid-sole” boots. Now, this mid-sole thing means that these boots have shock absorption. There is a thin plate of steel between the foot and the padding, made specifically to protect, well...the sole of your foot. This is simple for making sure that you don’t cut your foot on some loose nails, or something. I don’t know. I don’t wear them. I’m a tiny boy.
Now, these boots weigh in at more than 2 kilograms when made from leather. For my fellow Americans, this is 4.4 pounds. Per. Pair. So, each boot weight roughly 2 pounds. Obviously, this isn’t enough to sink and slow down a grown man.
Now, this is based on the average size boot, usually the display model. So, we need measurements of the Hero of Time. Link stands at about 5’7”, based on the measurement stick found at the Lakeside Laboratory. Great, assume. Pretty tall guy. I can get with that. Now the average shoe size for a guy of that height is roughly 9.5-10.5. Going off of the measurement of 9.5, that would mean the foot length is at about 10.5 inches, 10.8 if he’s wearing a size 10.5.
Now, this is really important as the length can contribute to the weight of the boot. The longer the foot, the more steel that’s being used. At six inches, a pair of steel toe boots would weigh in at about 5 pounds per pair, that 4.4 we found out earlier.
So bingo-bongo, plug in some numbers and it’s roughly 9-10 pounds per pair of boots. That’s not enough to sink a full-grown Hero. The most that would do is slow him down in the water but if he wears it long enough while training, he could be the elven Michael Phelps in no time.
Rewind.
Link stands at 5’7” with a shoe size of roughly 9.5-10.5, depending on if he goes to Payless or Walmart. You guys know what I mean. His own weight given his lithe but muscular frame is somewhere between 133-163 pounds. He’s a lot more muscular and bulkier than most of the other Hero’s, even our goat wrestling Hero of Twilight. So, I’ll say he’s closer to 163.
Now, the Hero of Time is strong. Like THE ROCK STRONG. I kinda want Link to start singing “You’re Welcome” now. Anyway, we know he’s strong because of how he swims
Paying attention to his form, which is used across Zelda games, he swims on his side. This is a form called a “Rescue” swim. A lifeguard learns this so when they pull someone from the water, the can secure them with one arm and have the person’s head above water while swimming them to safety.
Now, the real question is, did they give the Hero this swimming technique on purpose or is it just easier to program, considering it’s used across most 3D Zelda games.
Anyway, that swim is actually important because you’ll notice he swims with both head and shoulders above water, even when treading water in the child-time. That is incredibly hard for non-athletic swimmers, simply because part of treading water is the muscles, technique, and your lungs. THIS IS NOT INCLUDING THAT LINK IS FULLY CLOTHED IN BOTH TIMELINES WHEN DOING THIS WHICH IS EVEN MORE WEIGHT.
Maybe that sinking we get from putting on the boots is actually from the boots AND his clothes. Wouldn’t that be a twist?
Now, the lungs. Lungs actually help play a part in this magical thing called buoyancy. This is the displacement of the object density. Basically, an object in water displaces or moves the water, meaning the water pulls away from the object. What causes an object to sink is its density. The density is the object weight or mass related to its volume. This is why a massive ship can float whilst an anchor can sink, and a dead Hero can sink and a living Hero can float.
So, let’s go back to our question at hand: How much do the Iron Boots need to weigh to both sink Link AND allow him to still be able to walk?
This is answered again with buoyancy.
In order for a diver to basically moved around freely underwater without floating upward or sinking to the bottom of the ocean, they need to reach neutral buoyancy. But we want to sink Link, so we want a negative buoyancy force. Meaning he as a whole NEEDS to be denser.
Following the Archimedes’ Principle, we know an average diver would need 5-10% of their own weight (IN LEAD) just to reach neutral buoyancy. Given that we guessed Link at around 133-163 pounds, the amount of lead he’d need to go diving in Lake Hylia would be from either 6.65-8.15 pounds (5%) of lead or 13.3-16.3 (10%)  pounds of lead. Again, this is to reach NEUTRAL buoyancy but we want Link to be anchored to the bottom of the lake so he can fight those stupid friggin’ clams.
That’s when I got this idea: Ha’a Keaulana. A Hawaiian surfer who runs along the ocean floor with a 50-pound boulder. She uses this as an endurance training weight, which, as a fitness lover, I admire this! The most I can do for endurance is jog a mile in 20 minutes!
Now, she doesn’t have any Zora gear but she’s a badass that dives 30 feet to the ocean, picks up a bounder, and runs with it for more than a minute. Holy frick. So you’re telling me she not only dives down but tacks on an extra minute after situating herself with a boulder. JESUS. IS SHE ACTUALLY A ZORA?!
Going through her Instagram to get an idea of her body type, I learned that not only is she an amazing photographer, but she’s got an incredibly muscular build, much like the Hero of Time.
So, let’s go on 50 pounds of Iron Boots strapped to Link’s feet. Underwater, he’ll be fine, but Link needs to be able to walk on land with these things. 25 pounds per footsie. He might as well be that dancing scarecrow. 20-25 pounds is the maximum a diver can carry before they begin to sink though so, maybe it isn’t too crazy.
So, we come to our guesstimate. It should weigh in at about 25-50 pounds for a pair. Now, if this is true, even at the weight of 25 pounds for a pair, someone should then TAKE LINK TO THE HOSPITAL.
Studies show that long term use of wearing steel toe boots or even those damned ankle weight they encourage for running puts a strain on the tendons in your foot, ankle, shin, and most importantly YOUR NEE CAPS. THAT IS 25 TO 50 POUNDS OF PRESSURE ON YOUR BODY THAT ISNT BEING DISTRIBUTED PROPERLY.
I hope Link at least got a foot massage after all that OH WAIT. Zelda used the Ocarina to send Link to the past so the guy didn’t have to worry about that. Huh. Good call, Princess of Hyrule.
But, all of this is based on Ocarina of Time Iron Boots, which clearly have some leather on them. I’m scared as hell for Twilight Princess Link with those boots made completely out of Iron. But he also regularly wrestles goats, which for some reason helps him in wrestling Goron’s once he has some extra weight. He also is able to stop Beast Ganon but this is while in Wolf form with Midna’s Power hand, so maybe the Hero of Twilight’s boots aren’t even actually Iron?

Okay so I've heard people say that the character that looks suspiciously like Zelda is the Zelda that built the divine beasts 10,000 years ago.
And @jackmatica pointed out that there are two thrones in the Sanctum when Link is there with the light sparkles. At first I thought it was present-day, and that it would be our Link and Zelda's thrones, maybe after they established themselves as Hero and Princess, with the Elder's and leader's help perhaps. But then I thought it might be a dream sequence, or maybe a vision of the past.
So, my thinking is that it's a vision of the Zelda 10,000 years ago's throne room, and it would be hers and her Link's throne, because she had to have had her own Link to seal her Ganon away, right?
Tell me if this makes sense.

You know that totk confused the timline with there were 2 ganondorfs, zeldas and master sword.but with botw came from a timline when skyward sword link went back in time to kill demise and then came back, then the people of the sky would of stayed in the sky and when they eventually come down they are the zonai or some thing and then if you just place the things that happen in totk and some time later the first calamity awakens as the sheikah technology is built aswell then 9900 years the second awakening of calamity happens 100 years later botw.
And if you want the merge the timlines into one the could start to merge in between the 9900 years between the awakening of the calamities
Hopes this kinda makes sense in your heads
