A general tip for students who are sending those dreaded Religious Absence Emails to your professors: Rather than asking permission to take the day(s) off, politely let them know that you will be taking the day(s) off.

In other words, consider not saying this:

"May I miss class on [date] so I can observe [holiday]?"

It's not that there's anything wrong with the above, per se. But because it's phrased as a request, it risks coming across as optional — a favor you hope to be granted. Problem is, favors are not owed, and so unfortunately asking permission opens the door for the professor to respond "Thanks for asking. No, you may not. :)"

Instead, try something along the lines of:

"I will need to miss class on [date] because I will be observing [holiday]. I wanted to let you know of this conflict now, and to ask your assistance in making arrangements for making up whatever material I may miss as a result of this absence."

This is pretty formal language (naturally, you can and should tweak it to sound more like your voice). But the important piece is that, while still being respectful, it shifts the focus of the discussion so that the question becomes not "Is it okay for me to observe my religion?", but rather, "How can we best accommodate my observance?"

Because the first question should not be up for debate: freedom of religion is a right, not a favor. And the second question is the subject you need to discuss.

(Ideally, do this after you've looked up your school's policy on religious absences, so you know what you're working within and that religious discrimination is illegal. Just in case your professor forgot.)

GUN LAWS IN LAS VEGAS AND NEVADA – EXPLAINED

IS IT LEGAL TO CARRY GUNS IN LAS VEGAS OR NEVADA?

Yes, many types of guns are allowed to be carried in Nevada or Vegas, like handguns, rifles, or any other firearm which has been legalized. The catch, however, is that you should not have been convicted of any crime or had been legally disqualified from carrying any firearm. Also, it is important to note that you should have a state permit to carry any gun in Las Vegas or Nevada.

There are many places in Las Vegas and Nevada where guns are prohibited inclusive of:

Schools

Hospitals

Airport and,

Government facilities

Carrying any firearm here will result in revocation of your firearm license, and you may be suspended from getting any license in the future.

WHERE IS THE USE OF FIREARMS ILLEGAL OR UNAUTHORIZED?

Under the second amendment of our constitution, which grants its citizen the right to possess any firearm or guns for lawful purposes including protection of oneself, recreational purposes, hunting, and any other legal activity.

In today's world, the security is very tight, and one cannot easily slip any firearm with him/her because there are metal detectors at the entrance of the buildings, and possession of any gun is strictly prohibited in those areas.

IS THERE ANY FINE ON CARRYING IN PROHIBITED LOCATIONS IN NEVADA?

Yes, there are fines and even jail if any person is found carrying any firearm that is illegal to carry or its use is unauthorized.

That person can get:

upto six months in jail

upto 1000$ in fines

community service

These laws are strictly limited to Las Vegas and Nevada and varies from one U.S. state to another.

HOW CAN ONE PURCHASE A FIREARM IN LAS VEGAS?

Under the conditions prescribed by the Nevada state government, the person applying for a gun permit must meet certain requirements and clear a rigorous background check to obtain any permit to carry a gun. This background check procedure can easily take upto one week, and after getting the clearance with some conditions, the person gets the permit to purchase and carry a legal firearm.

The certain conditions to be met to purchase guns in Las Vegas or Nevada are mentioned below:

That person must have attained the age of 18 years.

He must not be a convicted felon

Must not be an undocumented citizen

Must not be any fugitive, drug addict

Under Indictment of a felony

Must not be a Former U.S citizen who had renounced his citizenship

The requirements mentioned above must be checked in the background check of the person applying for a gun permit in Las Vegas. There are also options for family transfer, but they also come with some exceptions. There are also some legal bindings on selling and purchasing firearms from private gun sellers.

CAN CONCEALED CARRY OF A FIREARM LEGAL IN LAS VEGAS AND NEVADA?

Concealed carry is permitted in Nevada so long that the individual is granted a valid carry concealed weapon (CCW) license. Nevada residents require a concealed carrying permit in the locality in which they live. Non-Nevada residents must obtain a Department of Public Safety that recognizes CCW permits issued from states like these. In other cases, they must obtain a Nevada CCW permit from the local county sheriff. This is required to demonstrate the firearm's security generally by taking the course.

A law enforcement agency can refuse permissions for CCW to patients who were admitted into a health institution in the past five years or those with an outstanding warrant. Does it constitute a crime to carry a gun when drinking? Possessing a gun while drinking or at a bar isn't unlawful. It is, however, an offense in Nevada to carry a firearm with a blood alcohol concentration (BAL) of .08 percent or more or when intoxicated by prohibited substances. The shooting place is unimportant, whether at work, home while hunting lawfully, or on a range.

This phrase is:

up to up to (6) years in prison or

up to $1,000 in fines

It can be permissible in Nevada to carry open-carry firearms inside vehicles. To be able to conceal guns in a car, the owner must be carrying a CCW permit. Be aware that Nevada law does not permit driving with a loaded gun or shotgun. The gun can have loaded magazines as it is not loaded with a cartridge inside the firing chamber.

i feel like one major flaw in the "if you can't name [x amount] of [something] then you [ARE BAD]" (to give an example: "if you can't name FIVE WOMEN you're a BAD FEMINIST") logic is that it is in my eyes a universally understood truth that people's brains do bizarre things when asked to name items of any category. one time i was trying to name as many european countries as possible and i, a geography and history nerd since the age of 3, forgot spain existed and kept trying to put in czechoslovakia

So we always meme about phoenix being the big Legally Blonde fan but consider.

It came out in July 2001, i.e. within the window of time for the friend group to exist

Yes it’s pg-13 but if Miles heard about the premise he would be like !!!lawyer movie!!! And then Gregory would chaperone so his son could see lawyer movie, and suggest “you could bring your friends”

Maybe Larry is also there. Maybe he said no because “girl movie”

Phoenix (at the obvious plot point, for dramatic irony value): “wow,…. she really loves him so much……..”

Miles: “but he’s a jerk he doesn’t deserve her”

Gregory: “kids please don’t talk during the movie”

Phoenix likes the movie to a mundane level. Miles imprints on the movie; full special interest. Before it he was like “I’m going to be a defense attorney like my dad!!!” After he’s like “I’m going to be a defense attorney like a) my dad b) Elle Woods”

But then we all know what happens a few months later. This interest is snuffed out in the same fell swoop as the rest of his interest in a defense career

When anyone brings it up, he thinks of his “embarrassing phase” and cringes
