PLEASE elaborate on the yj videogame idea (if u want)

I dunno where it actually came from, but periodically @owltrifecta and I just spitball what an open-world game adaptation of the show would look like. The crash takes place, and then the player would just make an endless series of decisions that affect the outcome of the story. You can play it true to canon, or you can make changes, but every change would then mess with the story more. Like, yeah, you saved Laura Lee from the plane, but later on, she's trying to sabotage the rituals. Or you rescue Jackie, but then a bunch more characters die of starvation. Taissa stays awake and the wolves don't eat Van, but they press on too far, and find some other horror waiting in the dark. Just a delightful terrifying Choose Your Adventure in the wild.

It would just turn into this Reddit thread environment of people being like "I am trying to make Shauna the antler queen, does anyone know what series of events have to happen???" or "I accidentally got LOTTIE to the take the plane, and she blew up, now what?" You'd get players who try to speedrun their way out of the woods, caring only about getting their favorite out alive, and you'd get the ones who would not REST until they save everyone (spoilers: you cannot save everyone, no matter what you do). Some are only invested in coaxing their ship together. Some want so badly to kill Misty. Travis only makes it out in like a third of the playthroughs, but his death seriously fucks up your chances of getting Natalie out safely.

And, in the middle of it all, you've got Van the unkillable goalie. It becomes a Thing for a subset of players, trying to take her out, but she just. won't. die. Players try to lure her into the frozen lake, thinking they've done it, but when spring rolls back around she's just loitering on the shore. She goes over the cliff? Just rolls to the bottom, unscathed. Set her on fire, the game glitches spasmodically, and then she's just standing there with a few burns and a shrug. My favorite idea in this was Owl positing that Van is the only character who can--and will, if you try to deliberately kill her enough times--break the fourth wall. The only one who understands she's in a story. "Oh, did you think you were in charge here? Joke's on you, dude. It chooses. You don't."

The Rusty Lake Story in Bitchass Baby Terms

this is ALL off the top of my head (and i haven't experienced like 10% of it maybe?) so i might be wrong but i don't care right now

the lake itself isn't, like, that well established 'cause it's a mystery game or something so we don't need full exposition. it's some deity-like thing as old as the mammoths (not canon) that eats time. or rather memories that are stored in lil cubes. and it gives its zookeepers immortality so they can keep feeding it. they call themselves the Rulers of the Lake but we all know the truth. 'immortality', or rather enlightenment, is represented by you becoming your fursona and living maybe an extra century. mr. owl's looking for a new heir pretty quick in the process but we'll get to that.

corrupted souls are kinda a byproduct of all this. truly the lake's farts. when a person dies horribly, when their memories get extracted wrong, or when the plot demands it, they become corrupted. corrupted souls still talk, and some of them are even sensible (like your mom oooooh), but generally they're jumpscare beasts or wet little puppies. sometimes both. yes you can get corrupted when you're enlightened, and right now it's the more likely outcome actually. there's a whole 'elixir of immortality' that gets harped on, where one drinker gets corrupted and the other gets enlightened, but that is literally only a thing for roots and a little bit of cave so don't worry about it too much. unless you're making dramatic fanart in which case leverage that shit.

cubes come up a lot in cube escape, believe it or not! black ones are bad memories, white ones are good memories, blue ones are connected to the past in a way that's somehow not a memory, gold ones are connected to the future, red ones only exist in my fangame that ellesian recently unearthed, and green ones are jello yum. also suck it anyone who told me pre-tpw the gold cube thing was unestablished. anyway. it was a big thing mr.'s owl and crow were working on, creating a golden cube (presumably to extend their own lives) as seen in cave, but then one just kinda appears in the past within when albert does electric jujitsu. jury is still out on that.

onto the actual narrative i think.

in paradise, you're mr. owl pre-owling (1790-something). the lake's current suckass servants are your family who tried to sacrifice you to it way back, but your mom took your place for mom reasons. now mom's corrupted and guiding you to... well, to get sacrificed for real this time. but with your powers combined (yes mr. owl was two people, no it is never addressed) you get enlightened and tell your family to fuck off 'cause you're building a hotel on that island now. you also get a tease in the secret ending that dale and laura will do a similar fusion dance to be the lake's next suckass. we've been waiting 6 years for that to happen.

in roots, two alchemist brothers get that elixir shit going (1860-1935). one of them becomes mr. crow, while the other becomes a playable character for a game. and corrupted. you rope your whole bloodline into this, harvesting their body parts (usually after they die from other means, but you totally caused most of their deaths) for a reincarnation ritual involving a magic seed (that also only exists for this game). this is where the best characters come from because rusty lake actually wanted to tell a story with this game. you reincarnate into a woman! don't think about the implications.

in samsara room, the inside scoop of reincarnation is fuckin' weird, dude (1935). the original was made before rusty lake began, so it's not truly part of the narrative, but it got folded in for the fifth anniversary.

in hotel, you do not get the backstory of the third bird man (1890ish). instead, you get to kill mr. owl's family again, but one-on-one as animal people. how did they become animal people? fuck you that's how! mr. owl probably did it on purpose to spite them with shit sandwiches and bullets to the brain. oh, also, there might be an evil twin of mr. rabbit that shows up later.

in arles, you're vincent van gogh. that's it. he's not relevant. but it is funny seing the death date of paul gauguin in the timeline docs.

we're talking about the past within later but the 'past' segment takes place around here. 1926 iirc?

in birthday, your parents get shot (1939). you're going to be an important detective, dale, but like right now you're getting traumatized. or rather you're experiencing that memory, then doing blue cube magic to fix it and have your grandpa shoot evil mr. rabbit instead. is your grandpa actually mr. crow? no. shut up about it now.

in underground blossom, your mom gets abducted (1935-1972 maybe). okay, well, not you. this is the laura backstory metaphor game but you're actually playing as the third bird man who is both her stepdad and her pet. and her grandpa albert takes her mom rose for his own nefarious reincarnation schemes maybe probably. rose is surprisingly okay with it but characters rarely put up a fight with the plot anyway. laura's a lonely kid, starts dating robert, picks up art to soothe her nightmares, gets murked, then reaches some kind of epiphany that we just train ride away from before finding out what actually happens. she's your daughter, damnit, you should support her transcendence. not enlightenment importantly. also, no, laura's life didn't literally happen at train stops, it's just a vehicle. not even a pun don't fucking laugh i see you snickering.

in seasons, you set up a really interesting plotline that gets utterly countered by everything that came after (1960's-80's). it's just laura time in there, and she uncorrupts herself, thank you very much. the series has been struggling with how laura gets her corrupted self to 1980-whatever, and so far only one other game's even taken place after 1972. and that game's the past within which also counters every other plotline. sigh. maybe we're not smart enough for these puzzle games. at least harvey's cute and bird-shaped. key point that's impossible to fuck up is that laura dies in 1972, and it's unclear whether it was a murder or suicide. that's why we get a detective.

in harvey's box and the lake, uh i don't know really (1969). these are early games that are basically spinoffs of seasons. they help with the overarching stuff but aren't much for the narrative at this point. also they suck

in case 23, dale starts investigating laura's death and gets wrapped up in the lake stuff (1972). it was supposed to be just another murder case, but he got too into it and it got too into him, so he gets teleported to the lake chapel and ferried off to. somewhere idk. he goes into an elevator that takes him down memory lane to the lake floor.

in the mill, mr. crow is really trying to clean house before dale gets here (1972). this is where laura gets her ass corrupted by mr. crow, and we find out how the lake eats memories or whatever. it's supposed to overlap with case 23 and it almost succeeds. whatever skrunk is still there is forgiveable, this was the flash era after all.

in theatre, dale learns about ripoff hinduism, goads a man into suicide, and abandons his darling toilet fetus son (1971). it's like birthday again, where this is a memory we're seeing, but that is a light distinction. robert kills himself at the bar, and we take his memories for legal reasons. there's some sixfold wheel we learn about that doesn't matter much.

in the cave, mr. crow still cleans house before dale gets to the Magic Memory Machine (1972). mr. owl's kinda sorta dying, and dale's been elected his son or something. gotta get his mindmeats. you read a textbook about cubes, pilot a submarine to the lakefloor, put dale and laura in a surrogate fusion dance machine, then give dale the golden cube it makes before sending him up the elevator again. hotel did imply something serious was gonna happen when he gets to the top, but that was eight years ago. the devs probably forgot and fell too in love with albert vanderboom in the meantime.

in the white door, robert unkills himself and gets wrong psychiatry (1972). as it turns out, mr. owl has a front business running a for-profit psych ward to extract totally good and healthy memories from people. this one is an actual factual spinoff but is kinda relevant for the greater rusty lake metropolitan area.

in paradox, fuuuuuuuck who knows maaaan, isn't it all just a metaphor? (1972). there's a consensus that none of the stuff that happens in paradox actually happens, and that it's all in dale's head while he's in the Magic Memory Machine from cave. even though there's five different endings, he kinda walks away at the end, which might be the worst ending of the lot. the information's solid though; mr. owl spells out the whole heir thing, there's bits of backstory for dale and laura everywhere. also the movie's sick.

in the past within, albert becomes a mechanical engineer for the sole purpose of making plot armor (1926/1984). yeah, remember that guy from roots? the voodoo murderer who got third-hand alchemy information to make up for his lack of pussy? yeah, he invented a time machine decades ago. and he enlisted his daughter to talk to her past/future self to grow him back to life in 1984. with a gold cube that he somehow got. and somehow his scar is genetically coded in him. and we don't see his wiggly lineart dick. what does he do in 1984? trap his daughter in a time loop then who the fuck knows. he's stuck in his jumpscare beast ways from being corrupted for so long. how did he get corrupted when he was literally buried in the ground and salvaged bones from? next game!

there's an ARG that i never saw a thing of because i hated it, best kept memory. from what i gathered, it was another front scheme for memory harvesting, except in the 2000's. does that mean it's enlightened dale/laura doing this one, since mr. owl presumably passed on the title then turned into a fish? i'd like to know too!

also, a chapter of underground blossom i haven't completed, and a paper-based game coming out within the next two years or whatever. i don't know how much they'll clear up.

listen i’m not abt to come for her as a person cause idk her she could be a sweet lady. however…

i’m an actor and grew up a child model and actor from the time i was crawling. i know a lot abt representation, managers, agents, etc. everything to do with z star is VERY odd and is the kinda thing most ppl in the entertainment industry would tell you to stay away from.

the fact that none of their employees appear to be trained in or having any prior experience in this field is a major red flag and you add their weird personal ties to each other?? what. the fact that they’ve made zero effort to expand on the success of their current clients by either pushing them and marketing the hell out of them (a managers literal job) or trying to further expand the “z star” company and sign lots of new talent to grow as a well respected influencer management company….not normal. why are they so stuck.

also the partnership w UTA. UTA is one of the most POWERFUL agencies around and they rep a ton of the biggest and best influencers. i’m talkin ppl like alix earle. WHICH MEANS PPL WHO ARE MAKING MASSIVE CAREER JUMPS (brand deals, pod cast, modeling gigs, u name it) and all have a direct contact to their rep at UTA. like even ON THEIR INSTAGRAMS. why don’t the triplets have this?? if laura is apparently working “in partnership with UTA” why is there NO accessible way to contact UTA about the triplets? why can you ONLY directly contact her? even on both z stars and the triplets websites? wouldn’t she want the help of such an established and respected massive agency…?

just the way everything has been handled with her feels icky and wildly unprofessional. also i’m sorry, but representation is supposed to be the invisible support team running everything. the fact that she’s so public and POSES FOR PICTURES WITH FANS??? guys. idk i feel like clearly we know she was a “stage mom” type anyway since she obviously got into this business trying to push madi into fame and from everything i know of those types of moms…they do that because they always wanted to be famous themselves. so i feel like she’s clinging to the triplets and holding them down because she gets to live vicariously a little (like even all the pics of her on tour) instead of pushing them to expand and grow which could lead to them outgrowing her.

also in entertainment ur supposed to outgrow ur representation and move up throughout ur career. a good manager would encourage that.

the triplets are a goldmine of potential and it sucks they’re not with someone who actually knows how to make the most of that.

what i’m super curious abt is how they convinced their parents to let them go bc yeah the whole plot of “madi saw them and showed her mom and then they moved into her garage” is just SO??????

I don't got no one to infodump about this, so here's my somewhat connected ramblings about the new update.

Spoilers for Underground Blossom and The Past Within!

First of all, why are they calling The Fish a mermaid? I think that's very intentional.

It's not just some random fish with legs, no-no-no. It is its own thing! Which begs the question: what kind of creature is this?

Is it an Asura (demi-god like mr. Crow), a Tiryaka (animal) or a Manushya (human)? What if thos is how Pretas (gods) look like in the Rusty Lake universe? I mean, if this is the future mr. Owl AND this is what he strives to become, then it would make a lot if sense.

Speaking of Owls, why this woman is the only one to wear a mask?

Maybe mr Owl has looked at William, decided "I wanna be a pretty woman too", transitioned and then wanted to show off [his] new vessel?

(I'm obviously joking, but can you imagine if the whole story stops at Jakob getting a sex change and thus ending his cycle of rebirth.)

Also why is Harvey there? I think they're the least lost person in this whole franchise. And what about August 18th, what does this date mean?

P.S. i was informed in the replies that these posters were made by fans, not devs (thanks for letting me know by the way). I'll leave this part though, the posters might still be canon.

Cubes.

How do two cubes result in creation of a tree. I do understand that the infinity sign symbolizes the unification of two timelines and how you need to link two memories together.

But is this a common practice? How did Rose and Albert know about this? Was Rose like "yeah sure I've always wanted to be a cherry tree" and willingly decided she was okay with that?

I still don't understand why SHE was the one to connect two timelines. Did she create them? Is this what mr. Owl tries to replicate with the help of Dale? I don't get it.

And why was she extracting black cubes from HERSELF. My dear Rose, WHAT THE FUCJ ARE YOU DOING

It's definitely painful and definitely takes a lot of her energy. She asks Harvey to close Albert's cage, girl can barely walk. AND THE FACT SHE EXTRACTS MEMORIES?? She can get corrupted at any moment, what the fuck.

I mean she might be extracting ONLY black cubes to cope. You know, her life doesn't seem to be colorfull.

SPEAKING OF.

I've always found it fascinating that Rose always was... How do I put this? She is vibrant.

Yes, she always wears black, her skin is grey, but her fiery red hair shows that deep inside she is a kind and caring person with a will to live no matter what.

And then, the older her daughter grows, the more colorful her appearance becomes. And so does Laura's!

It's almost like she opens up to an idea of being herself!

But then comes Albert and puts her in the Lab. Nine years later, and Rose doesn't look like herself anymore. She's not just getting "old", she's turning grey and dull!

I'm not skilled enough to get past School Station, but there are definitely answers and more secrets down the line. I just find it interesting that The Past Within is a multiplayer game now. Very fitting.

Seriously..... If I ever see Dick Wolf in person it's on SIGHT. How is that man trying to ruin two of the best dynamics on one of his best shows??? It makes NO SENSE - especially if you think realistically, SVU can't have more than one or two more seasons left in it - so what's the point.

And if it really is about money - just use the actors sparingly and don't have all of them in every episode aklsjdflkasjd - they've already been doing that for the past couple of seasons anyway - and just stretch it to 25 and call it a day.

It fucking SUCKS but at least David is handling Rollins with so much care on her way out the door. And I guess that's the least I can ask for.

i mean debatably? i’ve made a bunch of jokes about how similar 2009 was to 2016�� we’ve got kanye drama, we’ve got taylor getting ready to move out of her parents and we’ve got taylor getting ready to move to london, and we’ve got three men trying to date taylor at the same time

my guess is in september, her and taylor lautner were still in the friend stage, or at least very early dating with no commitments. i don’t think she and taylor lautner were never exclusive, because she also starts dating john mayer in the middle of dating taylor lautner, and when taylor lautner tried to make it exclusive in december she broke up with him

if you want to make up your own opinion, here are the parts of that whole saga that have been made public:

March 1, 2009: John Mayer tweets "Waking up to this song idea that won't leave my head. 3 days straight now. That means it's good enough to finish. It's called Half of My Heart and I want to sing it with Taylor Swift. She would make a killer Stevie Nicks in contrast to my Tom Petty of a song."

Deer in Rusty Lake might mean something else

A lot of people theorize that the imagery of deers in Rusty lake represents hatred / violence towards family, which is something I totally see with Nicholas Eilander and Albert Vanderboom, but I don't know why that would be applicable to Dale Vandermeer. He is perfect!! Actually, I theorize / believe that people with deer representations in Rusty Lake could mean something a bit opposite. First of all, I think the true reason the use of deer is so common and inconsistent is generally because it matches the style or Rusty Lake, so they reuse deer carelessly (sorry Rusty Lake, I LOVE YOUR ARTSTYLE I DO), but,:

I think a more accurate telling of deer for characters in the series would be reaching enlightenment. Between the three characters, they may be taking steps, and may be some of the only characters taking steps towards enlightenment in different ways. (I haven't played all the games in the series recently, so a lot of my information may be out of date or flawed, and it is not fully defined what enlightenment is, or how to reach it outside of possibly drinking the elixir, so I am making inferences). I don't fully know what the purpose of sacrificing Jakob is, but Nicholas had taken interest in using Caroline's memories for whatever reason he needs them for. Intentional or not, helping the lake or not, Nicholas may have been taking steps towards enlightenment.

Dale, to me it seems like the plans Aldous and Mr Owl are attempting to him is to get him enlightened (without his knowledge). He's already a corrupted soul, but as far as I know Mr Crow is attempting to change his negative memories into positive ones, changing memories gut keeping the past, it's all vague but he ends up with the golden cube, which might be a step to enlightenment. Ambiguous stuff I hope it all makes sense.

But most exciting, to me, is Albert. Albert may be unintentionally in the process of becoming enlightened. Seeing as Mr Crow is trying to turn Dale's negative memories into positive ones, seemingly to enlighten him?, Albert is ACTIVELY and unintentionally taking steps to enlightenment by personally changing his past, negative memories of his family into positive ones by. Murdering them all. Nice man!

Ms Pigeon is the closest character I could think of that may be applicable to whatever I've layed out here, since she does take interest in extracting memories before she dies. I don't fully know the rules here, but maybe she's too side of a character to have an association with deer, or perhaps have not started her experiment, already has a harsh enough connotation with pigeons (although Albert has MANY connotations with many different things, Mr Pigeon can definitely have multiple, too) to provide a second animal connotation, or she may have already reached enlightenment.

William is a character that seems like he's massively failing at becoming enlightened! For being the one with the most work done, he got killed by drinking the elixir, took all the steps to reviving himself, and got reincarnated as Laura, who seems like she got, once again, doomed to a fate opposite to enlightenment. Laura has a ton of bad memories, as does Dale, but her bad memories are utilizing a lot by the lake crew, and ultimately she is not getting steps done to getting closer to enlightenment. She pretty much is held hostage at this lake by her brother to extract bad memories after bad memories to help enlighten Dale. If I am READING THIS CORRECT.

I think I good way to see if this fits is to crosscheck if random deer in the games could also indicate this, but I haven't done that yet, I'm just keeping in mind Albert, Nicholas, Dale, and William.

I hope that all makes sense! I hope someone use understands this and gets EXCITED by it because I think it's a far more exciting theory with a bunch of potential than the previous one!

Edit: ADDING ON TO THIS. Playing through Paradox for the first time in years, Laura outright said that one of them will die and the other will reach enlightenment, and I absolutely do not see that being Laura. You have no hope I am sorry Laura.
