You watch them for a while, watch them where they stand by the door, mentally going over all they need to get done that day. You'd heard part of it earlier, repeated quietly to themself as they went about getting dressed.

A meeting with the Council seats before noon, then directly into reviewing the guard assignments for some diplomat's visiting child, then back to the palace to pick up their own assignment, and on and on and on...

You move off the wall and to their side, hand smoothing along their waist and breaking them from their thoughts. They accept your outstretched hand, drawing you into a hug, and you lean in.

They smile into the first kiss, relaxed against you, breaking it slightly when your hands move to their face and cup their jaw. Your fingers splay along their skin, pressing in slightly and feeling the muscles underneath shift as Flor smiles.

"I'm going to be late," they murmur, covering one of your hands with theirs. They make no effort to move it, simply resting theirs there.

"The Council can wait," you reply, shifting back to study their face. "I'm sure they won't mind."

There was a time they'd be embarrassed by how closely you're admiring them, the slight dips in their skin, the shallow bow to their top lip, how the corners of their eyes are starting to wrinkle from how often they smile.

There was a time they'd shy and turn away, a smile far more hesitant than this one as they internally wrestled with a response to whatever sweet compliment you'd given them. There was a time, but you've long moved past that. Together.

They're steady under your focus now, steady under your wandering fingers, ones that trail their lips, their cheek, their brow. You lean in again, taking your time in kissing them, slow and gentle and they sigh happily into it.

"The Council can wait," they agree, and it's clear from how they pull you closer to them that they're giving in. "For just a while longer."
