This is exactly 100% the very accurate dialogue the script-writers had in mind when they wrote this scene.
Image description under the cut.
Narration, as Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng come across Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen in the Unclean Realm in Episode 21: Just a normal encounter during the Sunshot Campaign...
Wei Wuxian, looking alarmed: oh no, my ex! who hates my new cultivation! who I also never began dating in the first place. can you break up with someone if you were never technically a couple?
Lan Xichen, looking at Lan Wangji with concern: I’m guessing you two are still on the outs...?
Lan Wangji, staring angrily ahead: No. There is nothing wrong. I am feeling nothing. This is my feeling nothing face.
Lan Xichen, now looking ahead with concern: ...alright, if you say so.
Jiang Cheng, looking at Wei Wuxian with concern: So, uh, you guys still going through a rough patch, huh?
Wei Wuxian, putting on a smile: Actually I am not bothered by this whatsoever. I am, in fact, very happy and normal and will say hello like a normal, untraumatized person whose crush isn’t rejecting him.
Narration, as the two parties come close and bow: *polite, normal bowing*
Wei Wuxian, looking at Lan Wangji: *YEARNS at Lan Zhan*
Lan Wangji, meeting Wei Wuxian’s eyes: *no yearning. no talking. still angry*
Wei Wuxian, looking to the side, somewhat hurt: oh. oh alright, cool cool cool
Wei Wuxian, covering it up with a stiff smile as he nods at Lan Xichen: anyway, nice seeing ya Zewu-jun
Wei Wuxian, walking fast past Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji: completely unrelatedly, time to go.
Jiang Cheng, looking up after Wei Wuxian in alarm: Wait, what? Really?
Jiang Cheng, also walking fast past Lan Wangji and Lan Xichen: Shit, I’m out too, then
Lan Wangji, turning around to stare at an off-screen Wei Wuxian: *YEARNS where Wei Ying cannot see*
Lan Xichen, also turning around to stare at the off-screen Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng: Well...that sure was something.

picturing poor teenji in modern era growing up in the 2000s. he's in computer class. the lesson already ended but there's still time until the bell rings, so the kids are allowed to play flash games or visit any allowed website. wei ying slides his chair next to him and tries to annoy him into playing a flash version of smash bros (they'd share the same keyboard to play?? 😳😳) but he ignores him and brushes him off until he eventually gives up and goes bother jiang cheng instead. then, lan zhan overhears a group of girls giggling as they click on a Love Calculator at girlsgogames and then typing out different names and combinations, then loudly yelling and laughing at the results until the teacher tells them to tone it down
at home, he finishes his homework early and all his lessons, but neither brother nor uncle are home yet, so he decides to go use his uncle's computer to find and print some more music sheets. as he's browsing, his mind takes him back to class, and to the girls giggling. he brushes it off, focusing on seeing which music sheets he can practice, but his mind keeps wandering. after a long time, his cursor finally hovers to open a new tab. he types G, stops, then IRLSGO, stops again, sighing in frustration. why is he even doing this?
but the search function suggests the website a few rows down. somehow, he convinces himself that it's fine if he's just clicking a link, rather than typing it. the website opens, bright and colorful, and on the lower left in a small square, he sees that Love Calculator is already recommended as one of the most popular games, behind some doll dressing up, barbie games, and one with a girl with lasers in her eyes followed by a line of floating men. strange games that his female peers seem to play, he thinks
anxiously, his cursors hovers again, the arrow turning into a hand, pointing to the very middle of the heart, enticing him to click. he doesn't. he shakes his head and returns to the music sheet website, scrolls a bit, finds a few sheets, and finally sets it to print, but not without his eyes repeatedly glancing to the girlsgogames tab, still open next to it.
unfortunately, his uncle printer has always been a bit fickle, and it takes a while for it to understand the command. he sighs again, leaning his back on the chair to wait, and while he does, that cursed tab catches his eye again.
teenji purses his lips, biting the inside of his cheek. his hand moves, the tab reopens, and the colorful pink heart stares at him, daring. the printer is still making noises, but hasn't begun to print, and in his impatience, accidentally or not, he clicks on the game.
now this is the worst part
"your name" and "his or her name" sit blank on the screen as the heart in the center sparkles. lan zhan is thankful, at least, that it doesn't spell something ridiculous such as "your crush's name" or "your soulmate's name". this is distant, and doesn't necessarily signify romantic love (despite the sparkling hearts dancing on his monitor). it might just be a silly compatibility test, regarding two person's personalities and their affinity. lan zhan was young, but he knew there were many types of love. one could type the name of a friend, a family member, or an annoying classmate, and it wouldn't mean anything at all. it's just a ridiculous computer game, after all.
with this in mind, his chest feels lighter, and his hands don't tremble as he types "lan zhan" and "wei ying" respectively. the printer makes another sound, and the paper slides into it as the music sheet slowly takes form. finally, with just a bit of hesitation, he clicks on the bright pink button written in cursive font, "calculate".
the love meter fills as the hearts and names bubble and dance flamboyantly, and his printer sucks up another page. he doesn't stare at the screen, because as established, he does not care much for it, but the colors jitter on the corner of his eye, and he pretends not to pay attention to it, watching as the black notes and line come alive on the previously blank pages.
then, the screen changes, and something like confetti and sparkles move as the animation switches, signifying the result of the calculation was complete, and lan zhan does not move to look, the peripheral colors taunting him as he continues to watch the printer do its magical work.
but every respite has its end, and as he collects the papers and gathers them nicely on a thin pile, he realizes he must now turn around to close the tabs and shut off the computer. a voice in his mind reminds him of the big, bright button on the CPU — one click and he won't even need to look at the screen, and simply turn the computer off and leave the room, but he painfully turns the idea away. the teacher has said that this was not a good way to shut off a computer, and besides, what if the tabs stay open? what if next time his uncle turns on the monitor, he finds a bright heart flashing with his and wei ying's name, and the extremely high results of their relationship compatibility? no, the mere thought of it was nightmarish. he must face the girlsgogames tab alone if he wishes for his crimes to go unnoticed by any other soul.
so, slowly, with eyes slightly unfocused, he turns on the chair, and reaches for the mouse again, and a fleeting thought wishes he'd had removed his glasses before doing so. thus, impassive, lan zhan looks back at the screen, eyes focused on the red X at the top right corner, but for as much as he'd tried, the bright and colorful animations caught his attention, listless to his efforts, and right before the window closed and the vast green field and blue sky of his uncle's wallpaper welcomed him with open arms, a large, pink number had burned into his retina, and his cursor sat motionless over the "shut down" button for longer than he'd ever admit.
after that day, for reasons which lan huan is still not certain of, his didi became quite enthralled with the percentage of 33, even asking if it really was a low number or if there were any significances to it that they were not familiar with. lan qiren, however, could only wonder why the ads on the corner of some websites had begun to flash in pink, purple and white, suggesting girly games website which he'd never even heard of.

Thank you all for your interest in my idea and I hope you enjoy this piece!
1.
The incessant, loud beeping of his phone alarm had Wei Ying ripped from his pleasant dream world, a curse escaping his lips as he reached towards his nighstand and blindly swiped at the screen to turn it off, eyes still closed.
With silence once again undisturbed, he was just about ready to fall back asleep and bask into the 10 or 15 more minutes his alarm would allow him before going off again - but his ears picked up on a soft huff and he suddenly became aware of an additional weight in the bed next to him.
Keeping one eye closed, Wei Ying cracked the other open, his eyelid barely giving way for light to enter his vision. "Lan Zhan...?"
"Mn. I'm here."
Sleepiness left Wei Ying faster than it ever did as he realized his husband had finally returned from his week-long business trip, and his loneliness (and dry spell) would finally come to an end.
"You're really here!" Wei Ying exclaimed with happiness and excitement as he all but jumped on top of Lan Zhan, alternating between leaving kisses everywhere on his face and hugging him tight enough for his breath to stutter a bit. "I missed you so so sooo much, I thought I was going to die! When did you get here?"
"Just now. I took the first flight back home after brother and I finished the project."
Wei Ying hadn't even noticed Lan Zhan was still in his office clothes, but suddenly his eyes travelled down his body to see a tight blue shirt, a white tie and a matching pair of pants still on him.
Wei Ying had seen his husband in this many times before, but in the early morning light and with how difficult his absence had been, Wei Ying couldn't help finding Lan Zhan impossibly sexy in that outfit, everything so well-tailored and fitting in all the right places on the all too familiar but still incredibly attractive frame of his beloved.
"Have I ever told you how good you look in this?" Wei Ying asked, flirtatiously playing with the end of Lan Zhan's tie, where he'd placed a pin with his family's emblem.
Lan Zhan let his hands travel up Wei Ying's upper thighs and slide underneath his long sleep shirt. He couldn't help an appreciative squeeze to the plush of Wei Ying's ass. He'd missed it immensely.
"Anyway, no matter how ravishing you look dressed like this, vice president Lan, I know for a fact you'd look much better without it~"
That was all it took for Lan Zhan's thin patience (and high libido) to snap, easily switching positions to have Wei Ying pinned underneath him, swallowing any of his protests in a searing, passionate kiss. He hadn't realized how desperate he had been to feel and to taste his Wei Ying again until he felt Wei Ying moan and hungrily return the kiss, wrapping his arms around Lan Zhan's neck and his legs around his torso.
Their hips met briefly as their tongues moved against each other and the contact ripped a surprised moan from them both, the pleasure electrifying. They repeated the movement, again and again, growing desperate with it, with the need for more - more pleasure, more of each other.
Never breaking their kiss, Lan Zhan unceremoniously lifted Wei Ying's shirt as high as it would go with one hand and he reached to unbutton his pants with the other as he teased at Wei Ying's nipples. Meanwhile, Wei Ying barely managed to pull his boxers off one leg and rip some buttons of Lan Zhan's shirt in an attempt to rid of it...
...when the alarm went off again, loud and mechanical and so fucking disruptive.
"Turn it off." Lan Zhan all but growled in Wei Ying's ear as he hastily reached for the bottle of lube they kept in a nightstand drawer. Like hell was he going to let an alarm interrupt him from getting laid after a long week of nothing but old men, meetings and unfulfilling masturbatory bouts.
Wei Ying had a bit of trouble reaching his phone in his lust-addled mind and the sound was so impossibly annoying that Lan Zhan could almost imagine himself throwing the damn thing out the window so he wouldn't have to hear it again - but Wei Ying finally managed to make the alarm stop and they both sighed with relief at the renewed silence and the fact that, thankfully, it hadn't woken their son up.
They had to be quick (not that either of them were patient enough at that point to make it last anyway) - the reason why Wei Ying had set up an alarm in the first place was to help A-Yuan get ready for school. It wasn't late yet and it wouldn't hurt to let the boy sleep an extra 20 minutes - Wei Ying would stop by a McDonald's and get him nuggets for lunch and they'd still make it in time to school.
With renewed vigor, the two lovers resumed their passionate kiss as Lan Zhan reached between Wei Ying's ass cheeks to-
"Baba! Are you awake yet? We have to be early today!" Came A-Yuan's voice from the other end of the hallway, loud and very much awake, his little steps paddling uncomfortably close to the halfway open door.
Wei Ying and Lan Zhan shared a panicked-pained look and separated exactly a second before A-Yuan all but burst through the door.
"Baba! If you don't wake up, I'm going to miss the-"
His eyes landed on Lan Zhan and he seemed to have forgotten he was upset with his baba for sleeping in, running to hug his other dad with an excited shout.
"You're home!! I thought you wouldn't come back anymore!!"
Lan Zhan picked the boy up and gave him a forehead kiss. "Good morning. Of course I'm back, why would I ever want to leave?"
"I don't know, adults are kind of weird. One of my classmates said that dads sometimes go to get milk and never come back so..."
Lan Zhan couldn't help a small laugh. Wei Ying had sneakily managed to put his underwear back on underneath the blanket and finally joined in the conversation.
"A-Die didn't go to get milk, though."
"So you're awake!"
And A-Yuan jumped from one dad to another.
"Come on, we have to go in early, I have to present my project on the solar system today and you said you'd help me set it up in class!"
And A-Yuan all but dragged Wei Ying out of bed, mumbling about whatever he could have been doing so up late last night not to wake up on time like everyone else.
Lan Zhan sighed, overcome with love for his family and sadness for his dick.
Nothing a cold shower couldn't fix, right?
2.
A-Yuan always took a nap after school ended for the day. It wasn't long, something between 45 minutes and an hour - the activities of the day exhausted him and some rest after eating a warm meal helped him regain enough energy for homework and playing afterwards.
Incidentally, it wasn't just A-Yuan looking forward to nap time that day. Wei Ying had been busy with errands the whole time the boy was in school and Lan Zhan was catching up on the sleep he lost due to jet lag and travelling at night - so they never managed to continue their morning activities whilst the house was empty.
Thankfully, A-Yuan slept like the dead once he managed to fall asleep, so once he was tucked into bed and visibly asleep, his two dads almost crashed into one another racing to the bedroom.
They closed the door this time, a sign that they were not to be disturbed, and they were back into the position from before, with Lan Zhan beginning to slowly work Wei Ying open as they kissed their breaths away.
Once Lan Zhan was satisfied enough with the way Wei Ying moaned for him to hurry and to just put it in already, why are you being so mean to me, i thought you loved me- he lined himself up to his husband's entrance and was almost giddy with the prospect of getting to be inside him again-
When there was a knock on the door.
It startled them both so much that Lan Zhan honest to god fell off the bed.
"Baba, A-die, can I come in?"
"No!" They both shouted in unison, as Lan Zhan clumsily fished through the pile of clothes on the floor for some pants for himself and Wei Ying to put on.
"Why not? It's important!"
"A moment!" Wei Ying replied as he quickly put the lube and the restraints Lan Zhan was about to tie him up with away.
Once everything looked innocent enough, Lan Zhan opened the door to let A-Yuan in. "What's wrong?"
"I forgot my pencil case at school!"
For a split second, Lan Zhan and Wei Ying shared a frustrated "i can't believe this is why we had to stop again" look, but A-Yuan couldn't understand such nuances and began sniffling.
"Please don't be mad at me! I really didn't mean to, I just let Jingyi borrow my eraser and I forgot it on his desk and then I hurried to leave and-"
Lan Zhan patted his head. "It's fine. We will get it tomorrow. I will talk to your teacher to keep it away until then."
"Go back to sleep, A-Yuan. You had a long day today." Wei Ying added, his heart squeezing a bit at seeing his baby upset. "A pencil case is replaceable anyway, nothing to cry over, okay?"
"Okay... but can I nap with you guys today?"
Lan Zhan could only hope his face didn't give any of his 'no, go to your room, i really want to fuck your dad right now and you can't be here' thoughts. "What brought this on?"
"I don't know..." and he pulled the big, wet, puppy dog eyes, "I just feel a bit lonely I guess..."
And so A-Yuan happily nestled between his parents, happy and safe, as they shared dejected horny looks.
Fate really wasn't on their side that day.
3.
Wei Ying stirred into the sauce a few times, the contents giving off a pleasant aroma as they began simmering. He added meat pieces and vegetables to the pot, mixing them in and turning up the heat a few notches before moving on to wash the dishes in the sink.
Wei Ying felt Lan Zhan come up behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist. "What are you cooking?"
"Something I found on a mommy blog. I have no idea what it's called but it sounded amazing so I decided to try it!"
"Mn."
Lan Zhan latched his lips onto the skin between Wei Ying's neck and shoulder, biting lightly into it.
"Lan Zhan."
"Mn?"
"You can't do this to me right now."
Lan Zhan let his hands inconspicuously slide under Wei Ying's apron and below the waistband of his pants. "Do what?"
Wei Ying would have responded if he didn't have to immediately slap a hand over his mouth so he wouldn't moan out loud. A-Yuan was doing his homework in his room and who knows what would have happened if he heard...
"Lan Zhan..."
He was undeterred, stroking Wei Ying slowly as he trailed a line of his kisses from the nape of his neck to the tip of his ear. "Yes?"
"Ah, you know we can't..."
"Why not?"
"Because - ah!"
Lan Zhan had pinched softly at the sensitive skin of one of Wei Ying's thighs with his free hand.
"Can't you wait until - until Wen Ning gets here?"
"Can you?"
"Fuck - ah, not with what you're doing to me right now, no, but he should be here any moment now so I really don't think it's going to be so hard-"
"It is hard."
"Lan Zhan, this really isn't the time to be a smart ass, get a hold of yourself for a minute!"
He didn't falter, instead increasing the speed of his strokes in that way he knew Wei Ying liked most. "I'd rather get a hold of you-"
"Baba!"
Lan Zhan huffed a very frustrated (and hot, if you asked Wei Ying) "Fuck, not again..." before letting go of his husband and taking over the dish washing. There was nothing less sexual than scraping leftovers off plates and he needed to get his mind off all the things he was desperate to do to Wei Ying but for some reason was not allowed to do that day.
Were the heavens finally punishing him for being overly lustful? Was he being put into horny jail to atone for his horny crimes? And couldn't they have waited until he got a few rounds in with Wei Ying before locking him up? It really had been a whole week, was there no mercy left in gods' hearts?!
"What is it, A-Yuan?"
"This exercise makes no sense! I can't do it at all! And it's the last one too!"
Wei Ying tried to focus on the first grade math textbook presented to him but his mind was still swimming with endorphines and perversions, so it took him a bit longer to understand what he had to do in the first place.
"Here is how I tried to do it."
Wei Ying looked over the paper A-Yuan attached to the textbook, then at the requirements of the exercise, and frowned.
"I don't see any mistakes..."
"But the result isn't right! It should be 4, but I got 7!"
"Lan Zhan, come take a look at this. Is there any way for the result to be 7?"
Lan Zhan looked over the exercise carefully, hands still dripping with dish soap. "No. Absolutely not."
"That's what I thought too! A-Yuan did it right, see?"
"Mn. It could be a printing mistake. A-Yuan, show your teacher your work tomorrow and see what she thinks."
"Okay! Then this mean's homework's done!"
"Just in time, uncle Ning texted me he'll be here in a few minutes to pick you up. Did you take all the toys and games you need?"
"Yes! I'll beat auntie Qing at Monopoly this time for sure!"
Wei Ying could only laugh. "Auntie Qing has never lost at Monopoly, not even I ever managed to beat her!"
"Yeah but you're bad at Monopoly. Jingyi says you have to be rich to be good at Monopoly and you're not!"
"What a little-"
The doorbell rang before Wei Ying finished his sentence and A-Yuan ran to open it. "Uncle Ning!"
A-Yuan wasn't the only one happy to see him.
"Go wait for me in the car, A-Yuan. I got you some cotton candy."
Lan Zhan handed three large shopping bags of food and various supplies to Wen Ning. "This should be enough for one night."
"Thank you for taking him on such short notice, Wen Ning." Wei Ying said as he handed Wen Ning an extra shopping bag of his and Wen Qing's favorite sweets and liquor. "We love him but we really need some alone time right now."
Wen Ning tried very hard not to think about what that meant. "It's okay, Qing-jie misses A-Yuan anyway. Call me when you want him back home and, uh, have a good... time- night. Have a good night!"
"Oh, we will, thanks again!"
The door barely closed before the good night started to be had.
Wen Ning could only hope that the smell of burnt food that emanated from the kitchen would not result in a house fire.
4.
Wen Qing handed A-Yuan a big cup of hot chocolate with a bunny shaped marshmallow on top. Wen Ning had just finished putting the board game away and they were getting ready to watch a Ghibli movie on the couch.
"Say, A-Yuan, do you know what privacy is?" Wen Qing asked as she waited for Wen Ning to set up the movie.
"Yeah, it's when someone wants to be alone."
"Everyone needs privacy, you know?" Wen Ning intervened. "Even your parents."
A-Yuan sipped his hot chocolate judgementally. "What do they need privacy for? I don't want a sibling right now."
Wen Ning looked to his sister for support. She was busy trying not to choke on the piece of candy she'd just eaten.
"A-Yuan, your parents can't... make siblings just like that..." Wen Ning tried, hoping the redness of his cheeks could be dismissed as caused by the hot chocolate.
"Baba says he gave birth to me, I'm pretty sure they can. Uncle Ning, do you really not know where babies come from?"
He could only wish he didn't.

Yeah so I had no idea that my appreciation of healthy communication could hit kink levels until I found @scarlettohairdye’s fics.
I read I Know Who I Want To Take Me Home first, and daaaamn. Suddenly I realized that while I occasionally enjoy a level of toxic in my fiction I wouldn’t tolerate in real life- that reading about people having open and healthy communication about sex is hot AF.
Then, I read Leave All Your Love and Your Longing Behind. Yay more hot healthy communication, and all sorts of warm fuzzies of awesome acceptance that warms my cynical and jaded heart. I heart Wei Ying’s “weird queerplatonic extended family grouping over two apartments.” Also Bunny, because she is the best and the belly is NOT a trap. And even Bruce because he is a big lover and just needed a friend to teach him manners.
And of course, because of my brain with all the hyper-SQUIRREL-fixa-SHINY-tion, paired with a whoa busy life, I am reading ALL THE THINGS between all the OTHER things that I am reading/watching/scrolling/doing. Which naturally means I read For a Good Time, Call. I am so ridiculously in-love with this modern incarnation of all the MDZS characters, but most especially Wei Ying and Lan Zhan. I love the feelings and the talking about them once they get around to talking about them. I love the neuro-spicy in all flavors. I love wedding planner extraordinaire Jiang Cheng and Nie Mingjue’s “Like I haven’t seen a fucking dick before.” I love the fashion. I love Wei Ying’s (off screen) therapist and want to be her (I am already a snarky and sarcastic asshole to clients who appreciate my snarky and sarcastic ways, I think he would appreciate me). And damnit, apparently I now love Jin Zixuan, and his naked calendar, hanging with cats, and haunted kitchen.
I have actually reread this one in bits and pieces because I wasn’t ready to move on, and sometimes when doing other things thoughts of this would pop up and I’d come back to visit. I am pretty excited that this is part of a series of works and I get to visit this world and particular incarnation of these characters again.
So do yourself a favor, if you are open to modern AUs, enjoy some explicit smut in your fic, and are on the healthy communication kink-train (or want to explore it) - and check out @scarlettohairdye’s work.

6. I'm looking for a modern AU where the characters work in various emergency services. I remember that the first chapters focused a lot on WWX, and I *think* that later chapters switched to a focus on Meng Yao/JGY. I specifically remember a scene where WWX climbs up a stuck rollercoaster or Ferris wheel, and someone he tries to save falls and dies. He was maybe a firefighter? And LWJ was maybe an EMT?

7. I want to find a Wangxian A/B/O fanfic It was very long and angsty about Wei Wuxian being an Omega Cultivator where they are expected to be locked up inside. 8. looking for a modern au fic, cant remember the title but the description on ao3 had something about a taxi driver noticing a bruise on wei ying and mentioning that the person will hurt him again. there was a suicide attempt i think, due to the jiang family abuse, and lan zhan was his neighbour!

10. Hi, I hope you can find me find this wonderful fic where WWX used an array to make everyone forget about him. He succeeded with his plan but the people who initially knew him (JC, JFM, JYL, even Madam Yu, basically everyone) always subconsiously thinks of him like something or someone is missing in their lives. Eventually, JC, LWJ, and LXC realized that someone must've erased their memory of that person so they tried their best to undo the curse or the array.

11. Hi, I'm searching for a modern au fic where WWX was gonna have an abortion, and LWJ offered to drive him to his appointment. He said that he'd help him because his mother had no choice or something like that. It's a one shot, I think, not much happens, appart from that.

12. Does anyone remember that fic where lwj is a goth DJ at a bar? And wwx keeps trying to meet him or hang out with him? Lwj is ruder than usual I think. I might be mixing up two different fics but in the one I’m thinking of lwj gives wwx a ride home late at night… it’s driving me crazy- I thought I had saved it!

13. First of all, thank you for all your work, you're awesome!! Second, I'd like to ask for your help to find a fic. it's ABO where omegas are like really rare and sacred in the cultivation world, wwx is an omega but for some reason he hides it until it all comes out about the time he's in the burial mounds with the Wen, and that's when the sects finally believe him and take his side bc omegas always stand for what's right and true or smt. Thanks!!
FOUND! Woven fates by apathyinreverie (T, 10k, wangxian, ABO, alpha LWJ, omega WWX, fix-it, fluff, family, romance, mates) it has the "omegas always stand for what’s right and true," but wwx wasn't hiding it, he just didn't present until he felt safe and then ran into lwj again / WWX wasn't actively hiding being an omega though, but only presented while in the burial mounds.

15. Hello for the next fic finder can you please help me find a fic where Wei Wuxian loses his memories after an accident. I remember WWX and LWJ were engaged and they were going to marry and LQR hired a private investigator and the accuses WWX of cheating and everyone believes him. But it was actually WWX meeting Wen Qing to discuss adopting A-Yuan. WWX keeps it a secret because he wanted to surprise LWJ when they get married with the adoption papers. Anyways after they accuse him of cheating WWX runs out and gets hits by a vehicle and loses his memories. It was a modern AU.
Thank you for all the help you do for us. @mybestfriendisacinnamonroll

16. Hi! I am not sure if this has been asked before but I'm looking for this fic where Lan Yuan grew up as the Jiang sect heir because Jiang Cheng got to him before Lan Zhan. I could remember there are several kids in the Burial Mounds and one of them was adopted into the Lan sect as a healer. And the rest (there were three of them ig???) were basically hiding in the Jiang sect unbeknownst to Jiang Cheng. I really really loved that fic but I can't remember much from it and I want to read it again. Thaaaaanks!!

The kids at the Jiang sect and the healer at the Lan sect match though

17. I think it was very Nie Huaisang centric and short, but I can’t remember anything other than a few lines near the end where NHS was remembering that JGY hadn’t taken into account that LXC had known him since he was a kid and would trust and defend him.
The line I remember is something like “NHS remembers being passed back and forth between LXC and NMJ like a particularly beloved parcel” referring to LXC practically adopting him as a second little brother.
Thank you!

In the first chapter i think wwx is kinda kicked out by bssr to make him meet with his sibling in cloud recesses and make a peace with them. I think he introduce himself as a-xian (or it is a-ying? But i think it was a-xian). I think that's all i can remember. Thank you!

I think it might have been Lan Xichen pov, and he was blaming himself for losing wwx since he was in charge of the hunt.

Hello yes, for the WIP questions, I am intrigued by Wei Wuxian getting arrested?
Okay so! There's this angsty teen movie that I used to love when I was an angsty teen (and recently rewatched for the nostalgia factor) called 'According To Greta'. It stars Hilary Duff as Greta, an edgy, suicidal, problem child teenager sent to live with her grandparents for the summer in New Jersey, and no one is really happy about the arrangement. She starts seeing this boy named Julie who's a linecook at a restaurant in town, and when she finds out he was arrested and sent to juvie as a teenager for joyriding she decides to invite him over and use him to shock her grandparents' conservative sensibilities. He's a nice guy and the grandparents end up liking him which Greta is pissed about, and Julie's pissed because he doesn't appreciate being used like that and tells her so. Of course they make up and go on their merry little summer romance way -- to the point where Greta invites Julie up to her room one night to try to sleep with him, but the grandparents' nosy neighbor sees him climbing the trellis and calls the cops to come arrest him, and the grandparents believe for a brief minute or two that he's gone back to his criminal ways to rob their house (which is cleared up without him actually getting arrested).
But! all of this to say - I just had it in my head that it might be a fun little angsty scene to have a WWX who's been kicked out of the Jiang house come to LWJ for a place to sleep for the night. WWX is having a shitty night and has no idea what he's going to do next, LWJ (who doesn't know what's going on with the Jiangs) is wondering if this is finally the night all his secret teen romance dreams come true, and then the cops show up to arrest WWX because someone in the Lans' prissy uptight neighborhood saw him climbing up the trellis to LWJ's room and decided to call 911 about a suspected burglary. That's about as far as I got and I don't know if I'll continue it or not, but here's most of it!
--//--
“Lan Zhan,” he whispers, tapping carefully on his window. It’s thick and double paned but he’s just barely tapping it with one knuckle, half afraid and half hoping that Lan Zhan sleeps lightly.
He knocks for a good while, maybe ten minutes he thinks, before a bleary-eyed Lan Zhan glares at him through the glass, his scowl almost hidden by the reflection of the full moon. Wuxian hunches his shoulders a bit and tries to look apologetic as he waves, a weak, half-hearted thing that at least convinces Lan Zhan to open the window.
“Wei Ying?” he breathes and Wuxian thinks he could cry, if he let himself. Lan Zhan always says his name so gently, so long as Wuxian hasn’t pissed him off lately. “Why- what are you doing?”
“Can’t a boy visit another boy in the middle of the night without it being weird?” he asks with none of his usual breeziness. Even Wuxian is well aware that it’s terrible reasoning and Lan Zhan would have every reason to shut the window again and leave him outside; not that that would be so bad either, it’s a mild summer night and the widow’s walk is a perfectly quiet and private place to sleep if he must do it outside.
“…Mn. The screen-“ Lan Zhan finally murmurs and Wuxian blinks uncomprehendingly for a long moment. It takes Lan Zhan lifting the window up as high as it will go and pressing his hand meaningfully against the big screen still blocking the opening before Wuxian laughs, self-deprecating, and hurries to help Lan Zhan with all the fiddly little pieces of metal holding it in place. When they’re all loosened Lan Zhan pops it out, both of them freezing the moment after to make sure the noise didn’t carry far enough to wake Lan Qiren.
Wuxian clambers into Lan Zhan’s bedroom and spares a moment to be glad that the other boy hadn’t bothered to turn on his lamp. Still, caution is a virtue and so Wuxian makes a little show out of examining the room for the softest patch of the floor to sleep on, goading and pushing until Lan Zhan says, stiff as a board, “We may share.”
Sharing is so fucking good, too. Sharing means Lan Zhan’s warm back pressed against his, and the whisper quiet of his regular breathing, and the knowledge that nothing that can hurt him will find him here.
But then, of course: he should’ve known better than to trust his luck.
It feels like no sooner has he closed his eyes to bask in Lan Zhan’s proximity on his way to sleeping than he’s startled awake again by a sudden whooping, cutting on and off strangely in a way he recognizes instinctively before he even opens his eyes to see red and blue flashing through Lan Zhan’s bedroom in dizzying snapshots.
“Shit -“ he hisses, launching himself out of bed “- fuck!!” A quick glance out the window shows not one but two squad cars, and Wuxian backs away from the nonexistent protection the glass offers quickly enough that he bumps into Lan Zhan behind him.
“Wei Ying?”
“Fuck, I have to go, sorry Lan Zhan I just-“ Wuxian makes it to the bedroom door before he remembers Lan Qiren’s presence somewhere on the other side of it.
“Wei Ying!”
“Sorry, Lan Zhan, I’m sorry-“ he stammers as he brushes past him and shoves the window up its track again. He stumbles out onto the widow’s walk, foot catching on the sill before he rights himself. He’s barely thinking beyond a panicked need to run as he swings over the railing and finds purchase in the same trellis he’d climbed up, hidden somewhat in the shadows between the Lan house, their privacy fence, and the house next door. He descends as quickly as he can, heart rabbiting in his chest and his sweat-slick hands slipping on the smooth bark and leaves of the climbing vine.
He’s roughly three feet away from solid ground and the ability to run for his life when rough hands yank him down and throw him towards the road; there’s no recovering his balance on this one and he goes down hard with a grunt, the pavement scraping up both hands and the arm he’d landed on. He scrabbles to his feet, shoes scuffing on the pavement, but finds himself abruptly caught in a chokehold, his feet flailing wildly as he tries to throw the fucking bastard choking off his air off-balance enough to get free.
“Wei Ying!!”
“WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!” Lan Qiren’s bellow is by far the loudest thing to happen yet save the chirping of the sirens, and Wuxian is at least pleased to see two of the officers standing by to grab him flinch away from the absolute fury of a be-slippered Lan Qiren coming down the front stairs, furiously belting a robe over his pajamas. “You!”
“We got a call about an intruder, sir, and we just caught him sneaking back out,” the officer holding him grunts; Wuxian kicks his feet again and tries to ignore the edges of his vision starting to fuzz out.
“Shufu, please-“ oh Lan Zhan’s here now, Wuxian realizes. He must be hallucinating from the lack of oxygen or something, because Lan Zhan looks more distressed than Wuxian has ever seen him.

Chapter 1 (first 3 minutes)
Ghost of the Yiling Laozu
“A-Yuan.” A soft voice called from above the small boy, weak and not exactly what he thought it should sound like. The voice was so lost, nothing like what he thought he should remember. “I’m so sorry, A-Yuan…”
It was like the voice was talking to itself, but Lan Sizhui could hear it.
Warm silver eyes kissed in mauve hues tiredly fluttered open, landing drearily on ashy black strands flowing over messy, torn robes in dark hues. That hair was messily framing a ghastly white face covered in scuffs and scratches, dimmed eyes of pale anthracite blue filled with burning tears beneath their fringe. Despite the alarming amount of blood on their robes and face however, they left no stains. He could see through this man, sections of their body broken off into pieces like they may scatter, leaning over his bedside like a grieving mother.
Lan Sizhui’s mind couldn’t quite focus on how he felt at that moment, he was too feverish and the scene confused him. However when he felt a ghostly chill touch his small, round cheek, he shivered, watching the misplaced figure quickly pull away his hand as if burned to the reaction.
His little lip trembled, and the boy started to cry, causing the figure to retreat until sitting and hugging their knees on the floor at the end of the bed.
“A-Yuan?” A deeper, tired voice came from the other side of the room which was soon followed by rustling blankets and footsteps. The slow approaching figure moved the privacy screen aside so he could come over, kneeling slowly beside the bed. The white-robed cultivator’s body was wrapped up in bandages and inner robes that covered much of his chest and parts of exposed limbs, but he didn’t let the pain show even in his own quarters.
His voice and approach soothed the little boy slightly, sniffling softly as he reached out his arms to the large hands which came to soothe him. “Is A-Yuan alright? You’ll get better soon…it’s okay, it’s okay…I’m right here, gege will stay here.”
The man’s face…it made that figure at the end of the bed curl up tighter, holding their head desperately as if wishing they couldn’t see the man. The man that soothed the little boy had no light left in his eyes, the only thing seeming to keep him from completely losing their focus being this child. Eyes usually full of frost and sunlight, full of things that were hard to place, instead dim and sore like tarnished silver.
Lan Sizhui clasped the fingers on his body and pulled the hand close to his face to hug, nuzzling against it like a stuffed toy rather than someone’s hand, but the man made no move to stop him. Instead he brought his other hand to the boy’s head to stroke his ashy hair softly, at the same time checking for fever.
Lan Sizhui wasn’t actually sure he was seeing right, the person didn’t necessarily scare him, but as his A-Zhan didn’t ever acknowledge it; he was confused and unsure if he should bring up anything to bring focus to the matter. He was so sad, though unsure why, and as a result he cried and cried without restraint.

I wanted to try recording TTS for GOM and of course i couldn't do it all in one go (it's got a paywall but you can use it for like 5 minutes a day i think) but i thought you guys would enjoy to listen to it anyway even if it wasn't perfect. This is much better than normal tts haha
so i guess enjoy a sort of tts reading of the first section of Ghost of Mine Chapter 1? 🤔the dialogue is the weird part haha
it actually does a really good job reading the names! Check out the link above to see the post for chapter 1 if you've never read Ghost of Mine and want to check it out!

your artwork where lan zhan is holding lan sizhui. it has me in shambles it's so beautiful. they way you capture lan zhan's grief and how much he cares about lan sizhui too 😭 the careful way he holds him so he can rest!! thanks again for sharing your work with us 💜
Thank you for appreciating my art!❤️❤️😭I love to draw this kind of 'off-screen' moments (especially sad ones), thinking of what happened before/after canon happenings, and I'm so happy when those drawings get a lot of feedback.

Perfection!
Really enjoyed this story and was soooo excited to see it complete. Loved them slowly learning about each other and falling in love. Has been a wonderful ride - soft WangXian 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Quotes:
Except Lan Wangji wasn’t a frustrated closeted gay boy anymore. Now he was an alpha who was secure in his sexuailty, and more importantly good at getting what he wanted. He’d been working for Lan Corporation since he started college. He’d been closing deals since the summer before his junior year, his ‘harsh’ nature being preferred for hard sells over brother’s polite smiles.
A soft knock on the door pulled Lan Wangji out of his thoughts. He looked up to see his brother’s head poking in. Lan Wangji waved him in, moving to slide the newspaper clippings back into the file they came in.
“I thought you’d want to see this,” Lan Xichen held up a file in his own hand.
“I was-” Lan Wangji shifted.
“Wangji, spare me.” Lan Xichen smiled as he approached the desk.
“Researching,” Lan Wangji finished. “For our upcoming business venture.”
“Wangji, Jiang Wanyin turned us down.” Lan Xichen sat in one of the chairs in front of Lan Wangji’s desk. His hands folding over his knee as he crossed his legs, a natural ease Lan Wangji envied. “We can’t force him to make a deal with us.”
“We won’t,” Lan Wangji’s gaze flickered back to the paused still of Wei Wuxian on his screen. “He’ll come to us.”
“Jiang Wanyin made his opinion quite clear.”
“Not him,” Lan Wangji looked back at his brother. “Wei Ying.”
“And you think this why?” Lan Xichen arched an eyebrow.
“Devotion,” Lan Wangji hummed. “To his pack, even back in highschool.”
————
“I know,” Wei Wuxian shifted awkwardly. He felt a sense of shame come over him. He closed his eyes, as if it would make admitting it easier. “Lotus Pier Industries debts aren’t all we’re dealing with. I’m already behind on Yanli’s hospital bills, and I’m barely paying for our motel room. Not to mention I’ll have to deal with my student loans eventually. I know traditionally marriage contracts are expected to quickly produce children, but I can’t leave my family hanging. I’ll do whatever I can to make it up to you, but I can’t afford not to work. I need my jobs, however crappy they might be.”
“Do you enjoy your job?” Wei Wuxian’s eyes flew open.
“That’s not the point,” Wei Wuxian protested. “I need it.”
“Do you enjoy your job?” Lan Wangji repeated. Wei Wuxian sighed, recognizing that old Lan stubbornness.
“No,” Wei Wuxian raised a hand to his temple to rub it.
“Then quit,” Lan Wangji replied.
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Wuxian breathed “It’s not that easy!”
“It is,” Lan Wangji replied, reaching into his jacket. He placed a black credit card on the table. Wei Wuxian’s eyes bulged out of his head as he saw his name on it. “Which hospital is Yanli in?”
“General,” Wei Wuxian replied, the sight of his own name embossed on the card stunning him into answering.
“I’ll see that she’s transferred to a Lan owned hospital.” Lan Wangji nodded, his hand slipping into his suit coat again and withdrawing a phone. “I’ll make sure the doctors examine her situation and see if there is anything that can be done to speed up or improve her recovery. Please get me the information on your student loans, as well as any other outstanding bills, and we can get them paid off.”
Wei Wuxian found himself speechless. He swallowed around the dangerously large lump in his throat, feeling tears prick at his eyes again. Lan Wangji’s hand reached out, pushing the black card closer to him.
————
Wei Wuxian stared at him in surprise. His brain slowly shifted the pieces together. Jiang Cheng had said he smelled weird, like an alpha. His mind flashed back to the kiss, specifically the way the kiss was the reason his headache had faded. It had been because Lan Wangji had scented him during it. His request for him to wear a ring. His sweater. Subtle ways to mark his territory. Who would have guessed Lan Wangji had a jealous nature? And that it could be formed that quickly.
“He’s my brother,” Wei Wuxian laughed, more in shock at his realization. He saw Lan Wangji shift, subtly showing his neck in a show of submission. Like a child who knew he’d done something wrong. He reached up, lifting Lan Wangji’s face so he could look him in the eye. “What what are you suggesting?”
“If we were married tomorrow,” Lan Wangji started. “You could move in with me. I could take care of you.”
————
“Although I am pretty sure you could read a dictionary and I’d like it,” Wei Wuxian snorted.
“I have a dictionary,” Lan Wangji replied, the corner of his mouth ticking up. It pulled another beautiful laugh from Wei Wuxian.
“Maybe I should put you to work reading me something a little more,” Wei Wuxian smirked as he looked up at him. “Stimulating.” He finished with a whisper and a wink.
“I’m not reading your werewolf smut out loud,” Lan Wangji replied flatly. Wei Wuxian cackled, turning to bury his head into Lan Wangji’s neck to muffle the sound. It thankfully kept Wei Wuxian from noticing his bright red ears.
E, 201k
Summary:
Aware that his social skills are better for closing business deals than attracting a mate, Lan Wangji had resigned himself to a lonely life. Until a video from an unknown 'friend' not only brings his high school crush back into his life, but reveals their status as an omega. It ignites a spark in Lan Wangji, pushing him to make Wei Wuxian his mate no matter the cost.
Wei Wuxian's last few months have been hell. After surviving the fire that burnt down the Jiang Estate, which killed his adoptive parents and landed his sister in a coma, he and his brother learn their parent's company had debts. Debts the Wens are now coming to collect. Barely able to keep his brother fed and housed, Wei Wuxian realizes he has one last card that might be able to keep his brother out of jail. His status as a male omega.

Lan Zhan looks at the screen as if trying to make a decision. He finally refuses the call, turning the phone off altogether. But when he lifts his gaze to say that he wants Wei Ying to stay, to beg if needed, the man is no longer there. The door to the apartment is half-open, and only the scent of Wei Ying's cologne is still whirling in the air.
the sudden awkward shifting of pov to lwj and then the frankly hilarious bit about the cologne. gold

White lies
Time to out myself as NieLan shipper I guess.
Special thanks to @apho-sappho for pitching and brainstorming this idea with me <3
This is part of my LWJ and NHS are besties agenda, this time modern AU flavored
Enjoy!
Wei Wuxian sighs, contently, as he takes his place on top of Lan Wangji, thoroughly sated and impossibly cuddly after their third round of the night. Lan Wangji can't help stealing a little kiss from his red lips, eyes trailing over the mess of bitemarks on his neck and collarbones. He looks really good like that, hair messy and eyes glassy, his skin bearing the proof of what they've just done.
"We really need to buy Huaisang a bottle of something for letting us do this at his place." He says, a finger tracing over Lan Wangji's jawline.
"Mn. Bourbon. It's his favorite."
"My, my, no wonder your brother thinks the two of you are actually dating."
"Wei Ying."
"I mean, you do know a lot about him. That's a prerequisite for a relationship, isn't it?"
"You know it's nothing like that." Lan Wangji rolls his eyes as he runs a hand through Wei Wuxian's hair to disentangle it. "My brother thinks if he likes a Nie, everyone should."
"To be fair, they are quite attractive." Wei Ying pretends to think. "They're also rich."
"I am also rich." Lan Wangji defends, irrationally jealous. Wei Ying laughs and kisses him.
"Anyway," he continues, "we can't really blame him, can we? The Nies are a catch. And it's cute, for him and Nie Mingjue to date, and you to date Huaisang too."
"He is not at all my type." Lan Wangji huffs. "Only you are."
"Of course you'd say that now that you got me in your bed." Wei Wuxian teases, "It would be a bit disrespectful not to."
Lan Wangji's eyes glint with mischief. "I thought you liked disrespectful."
"Shameless, Lan Zhan! You know that's not what I meant!"
Lan Wangji kisses him to hide a laugh.
"No, but if you think about it, you and Huaisang have been friends since you were children, right? There's, like, a friends-to-lovers trope right there."
"Wei Ying."
He laughs and kisses Lan Wangji himself, slow and playful, before he decides he wants to ask more, actually. "For real now, what was your brother even thinking pairing you up with Nie Huaisang of all people?"
"He believed we were... compatible. Since we have been friends for so long. And he and Nie Mingjue arranged these accidental dates for us."
"Accidental dates?"
"Like inviting us out to the movies and them not showing up, making reservations for two people instead of four and the likes."
Wei Ying giggled. Lan Wangji continued.
"They would also spy on us, but we always noticed them."
"How did they not give it up? I mean, I love you but you can get pretty awkward."
A deep sigh. "Huaisang decided it would be convenient to lean into it. He could use me as a cover up."
"Why, cause you're so good and so rule-abiding?"
"Mn. He would lie that we are going out together and instead go do whatever else he wanted that his brother disapproved of."
"Like right now?"
"Exactly."
"Where even is he?"
"I believe he went clubbing. Nie Mingjue has forbidden him from doing so after he maxed our three credit cards last time."
"Kind of iconic if you think about it. I'd love to have the money to do that."
"I can give you mine if you want. My card doesn't have a spending limit."
But before Wei Wuxian can make some dirty joke about that, Lan Wangji's phone goes off, Nie Mingjue's name lighting up the screen.
Lan Wangji sighs, sliding his finger over to answer. "Yes?"
Nie Mingjue's voice, barely above the noise around him, comes through. "Is my brother with you?"
"Yes."
There is an unnatural pause after.
"Try again."
Lan Wangji pales only a little bit. "Pardon?"
"My brother is currently sucking face with a stripper at the same nightclub I am in with Xichen. So, as I said, try again."
Lan Wangji's grip on his phone falters. "I have nothing to say in my defense."
"Good. Your brother is... out of it, but a talk is in order tomorrow."
Another unnatural pause.
"And say hello to Wei Wuxian for me." Nie Mingjue says and hangs up, his voice carrying proof of the teasing smile on his face.
Tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day.

Jiang Gunian Made A Change Part 18
Character archetypes exist for a reason, Xia KeXin mused, watching Jiang YanLi almost scurrying from the Jin section of the camp to stop to talk with Lan WangJi and then hurry off to the Nie camp. Maybe Miss MXTX read Pride and Prejudice, and maybe she didn't. Either way, everyone knows that the Miss Elizabeth Bennett archetype marries the Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy archetype. And Miss Jane Bennett marries Mr. Charles Bingley. Miss YanLi is obviously more of a Jane Bennett so why did she marry a Darcy figure? Xia KeXin looked down the street to where Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi were packing. MXTX got that pairing right. Wei Ying is such an Elizabeth Bennett to Lan Zhan's Darcy. Colin Firth is the sexiest Mr. Darcy on screen; I'll allow this Lan Zhan or his actor Wang YiBo would give him a run for his money in the wet shirt contest. Why did I have to transmigrate into a forty-seven year old fortune teller instead of into one of their bodies? She looked down at her wrinkled skin on her hands and sighed. I'm not even that old. Back home women in their forties were still getting their groove on. Here? Everything hurts when I wake up. Or try sitting on the mats. Thank God for that carpenter! She had found one of the Wen civilians was a carpenter and commissioned him to make her a rocking chair. It had been a grueling process, as he'd never tried to make the curved runners, and she had no idea how to draw a rocking chair to scale, but the end product was well worth it. Several other women had openly eyed the rocker, thinking how useful it would be to be able to sit comfortably while nursing babies or trying to put them to sleep. Or for just taking an afternoon rest.
But back to Jiang YanLi. Obviously Jane Bennett marries Mr. Bingley. Wealthy, kind to everyone, the part where Mr. Bennett says they'll outspend their income is optional, I suppose. As are his annoying sisters and bland brother-in-law. Jin ZiXuan is wealthy, so.... She frowned at her crochet project. Wealthy, yes. But too damn proud to be Bingley. And definitely not kind enough. He's definitely a Darcy 2.0 more than a Bingley. Yeah, so he ends up completely besotted with YanLi. Big whoop. She deserves someone who doesn't need to be smacked in the proverbial face before he realizes what kind of woman she is. So... wealthy and kind? The only one here that fits that bill is... Lan XiChen? Xia KeXin rocked a bit faster, thinking of how the handsome sect leader looked standing next to Jiang YanLi. They do look good together, don't they.... YanLi looks good in that pale lavender she perfers, so I'm guessing that she'll look good in those pastel blues XiChen wears, too. She can even mix and match, probably... White under robes with lavender as her next layer and her outer layers blue.... Or purple, white, blue? That would probably look best? Or... what's that... ombrage? No. What's it called? Xia KeXin internally rolled her eyes at failing to remember the word. It's right on the fucking tip of my tongue! Ombrange? Katie did it to her hair right before we went on vacation, too. In almost the same colors as I'm trying to see for YanLi. Shit! Blue on top fading into purple at the bottom. Not ombrage! She looked up at the sky and mentally screamed at herself. "Got my tongue stuck between my eyeteeth, so I can't see what I'm saying," she spoke out loud in English.
"Did you say something?" a woman passing by asked.
"Just talking to myself," Xia KeXin smiled. Ombre! That's the word. Or Ballyage. I am such a dumb idiot sometimes. Ombrage. What the Hell, Summer? Don't you dare lose your English. It's all I have to remind myself who I was.
She picked up her crochet project and continued the row, thinking about how to get Jane and Bingley together. It just made more sense than Jane and Darcy 2.0.

He takes a piece of the dessert and presses it gently against Lan Zhan’s lips. Wei Ying wrenches his hand away, nearly dropping the plate. It’s clearly been too long since he last slept with anyone if he’s having impure thoughts about his coworkers eating food at 3pm on a Wednesday. Xiantober 2023 - Day 13: Inventor!Xian
Word Count: 925 Pairing: Wangxian Tags: Inventor Wei Ying, re-living memories
Wei Ying grunted softly as he moved, careful and deliberate. He couldn’t deny the joy he felt, the closer he got to completion. Nothing would ever compare to this. No words could describe how he truly felt. His body trembled lightly at the thought, close, so close!
“Yes!” He shouted, throwing his hands into the air as he stepped back, looking at his handiwork. “Oh my god, oh my god.” He bounced around excitedly, pumping his fist a few times in joy. “Whooo! Okay, okay, reel it in, Wei Ying.” He smacked his hands to his cheeks. “Don’t get too excited, not yet. I gotta run the final tests!”
“Wei Ying?” Lan Zhan’s voice broke through his excitement as he entered the lab, gently shutting the door behind him and setting the tea and coffee down on the desk. “By the sounds of it, you’ve figured out the hardwiring issue?”
“Lan Zhan! Yes! You’re just in time for the final test–” He groaned happily as the smell of coffee hit him. “Oh my god you’re my favorite~”
The other chuckled softly and picked the coffee back up before approaching the other, handing it over and accepting a sweet kiss as payment. “I would hope so. Do you think it’s going to work this time?”
“I do!” He took a sip of the coffee and groaned happily before he looked at the machine in front of him. “I’ve been working on this for three years, and I know that’s nothing compared to what it takes some people to invent things, but this”
“It has given you problem after problem, I know.” Lan Zhan nodded, kissing Wei Ying on the forehead before he pulled back and gestured. “Why not run the test now, I am eager to see.”
Wei Ying nodded a little and hurried to the machine and grabbed the attachments. A few sticky pads were placed very carefully before he attached the needed wires and sat down. It only took a few moments for him to get the machine running and putting in the exact coordinates before his invention whirred to life, a soft thrum that drowned into the background as the screen in front of them flickered to life.
As the image began to clear, Wei Ying quickly pressed the record button on his machine and both men turned their attention to the now fully visible image, an image from Wei Ying’s point of view..
”Ah, this is so nerve wracking.” The plum trees around them were in full bloom as he carefully looked around, though the sun was setting and it was getting harder to see. “It’s so pretty…” He mumbled, “Aiya, Lan Zhan, you can’t just leave me such a cryptic note and * not * tell me exactly where you are.” He huffed, though his voice held nothing but excitement.
Wei Ying moved through the trees, taking in the beautiful sights around him until the trees finally began to separate, giving way to a pretty field that was decorated with hundreds of fairy lights. All around the field were Wei Ying’s closest friends and family. His parents, the Jiangs, the Nies, the Lans, and even the Jins. All of them were holding floating lanterns that they let go of as Wei Ying entered the field.
Dead center in front of Wei Ying, was Lan Zhan, down on one knee with a beautiful ring in hand. Wei Ying’s breath hitched and his hand flew to his mouth. “Lan Zhan…?”
”Wei Ying, we’ve known each other since we were young. We’ve been close for as long as I can remember, and I have been in love with you since day one. You are my special someone, my other half, the reason I exist. I don’t want to go another day without you. Will you marry me?”
Instantly, Wei Ying threw himself into Lan Zhan’s arms, kissing him deeply as tears began to fall. “Yes! Yes!”
The image played as Wei Ying watched Lan Zhan slip the ring on his finger and then he turned off the machine, his cheeks flushed and his eyes misted with unshed tears, but he was smiling. He was so excited. It worked. It finally worked!
Now it was possible to replay someone’s memories and record them for future watching. But to see that special memory over again, to feel like he was reliving it, he wanted to cry and say yes all over again!
“It worked…”
Lan Zhan smiled, a soft, warm smile that was saved for rare occasions. He was so  proud of his husband. “It did.” Seeing the engagement through Wei Ying’s eyes was certainly a magical experience.
“Lan Zhan… Lan Zhan, it worked! I did it!” He pulled the wire off and threw his arms around him, burying his face in his chest. “This is going to change the world… I never could have done this without you… “
A soft huff came from Lan Zhan as he wrapped his arms around him. “You could have, but I am happy to have been able to support Wei Ying.”
“You fuddy-duddy. You do more than just support me.” He pulled back, giving Lan Zhan a soft kiss. “Let's get married again~”
Lan Zhan hummed, his hands dropping to Wei Ying’s ass. “Mn.”
Wei Ying threw his head back and laughed before he jumped, wrapping his legs and arms around his husband who was already prepared to catch him.
They could patent and advertise this magnificent machine later, right now, he had a husband to spoil for his hard work.

one line, any fic
The lovely @wolfpants tagged me in this game, which sounds so much fun! Thank you! <3
Pick any 10 fics, scroll somewhere to the mid point, pick a line, and share it! Then tag 10 people.
I've chosen six drarry fics and four featuring other ships and then scrolled to the middle, closed my eyes and pointed at the screen lol
I. Young and beautiful (drarry, E, 3k, WWI AU)
‘I’d like to dream about you.’
II. 'But if he wins?' (Berencel, E, ~1k)
He threw his garments on the floor as he spoke, and laid back, naked and gloriously aroused on the bed, his hair fanned on the sheets.
III. Through the Looking Glass and What Draco Found There (drarry, E, 17k)
Draco had to have a talk with himself. If he kept this thinking up, he was in real danger of becoming sentimental.
IV. Sometimes a man needs (drarry, E, 5.5k, Flower shop AU)
Malfoy’s presence in the living room made the space look shabbier than before; perhaps it was the crisp suit, way more formal than anything worn inside these walls, or Malfoy’s colouring under Neville’s too-bright lamp.
V. eros melter of limbs (pynchisky, E, 12k)
Now, if you were to be an inside observer – hidden in Ronan’s mind and thoughts and heart – then you’d see that nothing was the same as before.
VI. 9 ½ Days (drarry, E, 69.6k)
His heartbeat thudded against Draco’s, a small symphony of life, while the night whispered around them.
VII. dirtynumbangelboy (drarry, E, 39.4k)
They’ve held hands before, it shouldn’t be a big deal, but this feels different; alone, in Draco’s flat, just the two of them.
VIII. secret desires (wangxian, E, 2.5k)
A fever spreads on his skin, electricity travels up his spine, as he watches Lan Zhan watching him.
IX. Cornflower and Marigold (Francis/Will Scott, M, 1.5k)
He searched the other man’s expression for a hint of a corresponding sentiment, finding nothing more than a malicious indifference.
X. The Boy Who Died (drarry, E, 26.8k)
‘Show-off.’ But Draco’s eyes shone with pure joy, the biggest grin transforming his flushed face, and Harry’s heart trilled.
