Little details from Falin's (final) resurrection that I love:
Tumblr media
when they say that they will need to rebuild her lower body, they seem to mean it pretty literally. There are scalpels and other surgical instruments on the table nearby, and that part is left to the elves to lead due to the difficulty. I wonder what kind of mix of magic and physical skill is needed to repair and recreate a body like that.
Tumblr media
Both Laios and Marcille contribute mana to help bring her back...
Tumblr media
but we don't get to hear exactly what they say. Those words are left for them and them alone.
Tumblr media
During Falin's meal, the little dragon is hungry too...
Tumblr media
so she shares her meal with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though Falin's dress is whole when we first see it, after she consumes the dragon meal, the bottom of it begins to fray in a way that resembles the veins we see being reconstructed with her body while she eats.
Tumblr media
three just in this set of panels - the bowl is there because she's been sleeping for some time (days?? weeks???) and they have been feeding her.
Marcille chewing on her sleeve while she sleeps.
And the fact that Izutsumi was holding vigil right alongside the rest of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laios just talking to & then hugging Falin right over Marcille.
Tumblr media
Speaking of the wait - how long was it? They'd almost given up?? They must have waited so long for her to wake up, sleeping right next to her bed the whole time.
Tumblr media
The cuddle pile..... Falin looks so (lovingly) annoyed bless her.
Tumblr media
This absolutely brutally dark joke that literally only could have come from Chilchuck. Holy shit buddy ^^;;
Tumblr media
Somewhat relatedly, Senshi making sure to mention the curry that they used to lure in & kill her. Note Marcille's face in the background.
Tumblr media
Izutsumi having waited there the whole time, but still being shy. Plus how she hides behind Laios. Truly the cat of all cat girls.
Tumblr media
This line from Marcille kind of seems like its her being overly protective of Falin (as she was after the first resurrection), until you realize that...
Tumblr media
It's probably more because she knows there is a big crowd outside and Falin is still in a nightgown.
Other small details in this part:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Embarrassed Shuro averting his gaze, while Kabru keeps trying to snoop even after Marcille pulls Falin back inside (snoopy Namari too, though she's a little more justified than him)
Tumblr media
Senshi & Chilchuk go off together to make food, while Izutsumi (grumpily) accepts a proper introduction.
Tumblr media
Wherever they got this outfit & cloak for Falin, they also seem to have shared similar ones ones with...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Laios, Chilchuck, and Yaad. I think its cute that they look like they either bought a bunch of similar cloaks, or were provided them as gifts.
And, of course,
Tumblr media
This smile C:

Hello! Could you please do something with Laios x reader and fluffy intimacy? Like a cute lil blurb with hand holding and hugging, he’s just so big and warm looking I wanna cuddle his cute self. Thank you sm!!!
daily affections
Tumblr media
꒰ includes ꒱ ⸻ (dungeon meshi) laios touden.
꒰ warnings ꒱ ⸻ gn! reader, fluff.
꒰ blossom's note ꒱ ⸻ thank you for the request! this man makes me feral, 100/10 would cuddle and hug and hold hands and smooch and etcetc! i hope you enjoy!!
Tumblr media
"Watch your step," Laios warned, turning around with a shy smile as he offers you his hand. You gladly take it, keeping an eye on the ground as you avoid the mess of the dungeon ground, Laios leading you through.
However, even as the ground evened out, your hand didn't leave Laios' and it appeared he didn't have any intentions of letting go either. Both of you enjoyed the sweet affection whilst the voices of the others fade into the background.
"So cute!" Marcille squeals quietly at you two holding hands.
"They don't have to hold hands anymore," Chilchuck sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "They know that, right?" Marcille waved her hand at him dissmissively.
"Oh shush, I think it's sweet~"
It's not long until everyone decides it'd be best to set up camp for the night. Senshi starts on a nice dinner, whilst the rest of the party separates to do what it is they do. Laios and you stick around to help Senshi with cooking.
"Like this?" You ask, looking over at the dough that Laios' was kneading. He comes over and inspect its, before resting his hands over yours from behind and slowly guiding you in how to knead the dough like Senshi said.
Despite the warmth in your face, you learn a lot from Laios' guiding. You thank him cheerfully and the poor man nearly has a heart attack. He brings his little cooking station closer towards you.
But the daily affection doesn't end there, later into the night, as everyone is sleeping peacefully, you toss and turn from the cold. It's not long until you're stumbling your way over to Laios.
"Mm?" He hums groggily, shifting as he tries to open his eyes. His arm lazily held up for you to come cuddle, and you gladly slot yourself in. Through his hazy consciousness, he wraps his arm around you and pulls you in closer, holding on tight as he falls back to sleep quickly.
You close your own eyes, face buried in his warm chest and your own arms wrapped around him. What a good ending to such a lovely day?
Tumblr media
꒰ ❀ ꒱ thank you for reading. have a wonderful day, darling!

Dungeon Meshi Quick Reacts: CH45
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Slumber party!
Tumblr media
Fair, but consider: She deserves a little murder. As a treat.
Tumblr media
Kabru be like "IS THAT MY BACKSTORY???"
Tumblr media
That sure is....a ship. With no one on it.
Tumblr media
Ah, shit the Americans are here.
Tumblr media
Two things: Toshiro being tended to like a pretty pretty princess is hilarious.
And also, the fact that they think the elves can kill Falin......... hmmm.... Pressing X to doubt.
Tumblr media
............... oh. Laios. 😂
But also like. How was he MEANT to keep it silent? Put a little something in it? I thought since it was a magic bell you could code it to only ring when it's shaken with INTENT?
Tumblr media
Fancy ass house.
Also, Namari...........are you hitting that yet? Both of that?
Tumblr media
Oh, it's backstory time.
Tumblr media
Okay one: that's fucking tragic, it sounds like the Elves are just forcing the dungeons closed with no regard for how the ecosystem compensates and what people suffer by being in close proximity......
And another thing: Kabru. Kabru, isn't that what YOU'RE after? Having all the power?
Tumblr media
Why is this so much like that one meme where the girls at the party are looking at you.
Tumblr media
It's the same picture.
Tumblr media
Kabru that's. That's maybe not the way to go about it. you're going to give them MORE reasons to go in.
Tumblr media
Nevermind the governor not being into this 'good boy, now sign' talk, Toshiro's kinda right. Ya fucked up Kabru.
Tumblr media
No matter how far Laios runs, he cannot escape other people trying to tell him how to live his life. Poor guy. But at the same time...
Tumblr media
Is this real? Or a red herring?
Laios' father and mother seemed to be living relatively pious lives. They clearly had a good house, but it didn't seem like they were extremely rich. Then again, perhaps he's just a cousin of royalty? Is that why his parents wanted him to have children?
Tumblr media
They want to.... halt the growth of the dungeon? Is this another part of the natural ecosystem of things? Dungeons growing seems to point even more towards the idea that it's a gigantic, fleshpit-like creature instead of simply a construct.
Then again, constructs CAN be creatures. Like the golems.
Tumblr media
Elves not understanding how old humans are continues to be hilarious because like.
As humans, we HAVE this same concept of variant aging. Like. Dogs. We understand that dogs live less than us, and mature a lot slower. But this is.... COMMON KNOWLEDGE. Most people do not make it into adulthood without understanding that dogs mature within 1-2 years of their birth.
The fact that elves, a species with FAR more time on their hands, who have lived alongside other races for AGES....... have STILL not got the general concept of aging down....means their education is atrocious. Or they're all not paying attention.
Tumblr media
.......this. THIS is the most fascinating concept in this chapter.
The fallen.... turned into MONSTERS.
We know that dying inside the dungeon doesn't mean permanent death. But dying above-ground does.
We know that dying in the dungeon doesn't mean your body turns into a monster (aside from ghosts and ghouls?) ..... but dying aboveground.... DOES......?
WHAT'S THE TRUTH.
Tumblr media
👁👁
Hm.
Tumblr media
If Kabru and Laios fused, they could almost make one functioning human being.
Tumblr media
Senshi just beginning to speak in the middle of his own internal monologue is so real.
Tumblr media
...... what's going on there with the expression, buddy?
Tumblr media
Bread.......are they STILL carrying around flour with them?! How are they getting bread?!
Also, it's awesome that the eggs are canonically hard to crack, because it makes sense that they don't break during their many fighting events.
Tumblr media
Izutsumi really said ◉_◉
Tumblr media
Don't tell me Laios, who is sensitive to ghosts has ALSO been seeing things?
Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, that's highkey terrifying.
Tumblr media
Props to that ghost that's been following Laios around, not ever giving up hope that it can bother him into acknowledging it.
And also - hey, it already saved them once! that means it's probably not evil!
That, or it's the king of the bloody dungeon. Wouldn't that be something!

Spoilers ahead:
So, as it is commonly accepted, and talked about in the manga: Laios prefers monsters to humans.
Laios does not care for the complexities of humanity - this is probably due to his autism, and his lack of ability to read people. From a child, he didn't understand why everyone hated his sister. In adulthood, he faced issue with Toshirou, because he didn't realize his "fake" politeness. Later on, he doesn't pick up on Kabru's desire to be friends until they pointedly say it.
Tumblr media
This brings me to my next point... Why monsters? Why did Laios not become introverted? He could have easily left the army and started a bakery. He could have lived through others in a merch shop. Why was his fascination with the fantastical consume him? (Note: to a point him and falin did, if daydream hour is considered canon, Laios did join a travelling caravan and lived a "normal" life.)
INTRODUCE MY MAIN POINT!!!!!
LAIOS AND HIS CHILDHOOD DOGS!!!!!!
Even to his parents, Laios never felt like he could properly confide in them, thus he turned to the farm life he grew up with. Things that don't talk back, but listen attentively. His father, who was the town mayor, and his mother, who was pregnant at the time, possibly had little time to tend to him. It could also be due to his lack of socialization, which we don't know much about at this age, but we can later see that he never quite fit in with the town's children.
Tumblr media
However, Laios doesn't continue to treat these animals as "inanimate objects", things that will listen to him without any response. Soon, animals become "people".
Tumblr media
A boy who was rejected socially found family in dogs; thus they taught him much of what he knew. His behaviourisms make a lot more sense, I feel like, if you look at it this way. Dogs are blunt creatures - when they're mad, they bare their teeth. When they're in a good mood, they wag their tail and show their belly. Compared to humans, who you have to deeply analyse their smallest twitch of a brow, it's outright confusing.
Tumblr media
But, in the end, Laios cannot hate humanity because he loves his friends. This group he's collected are all people he cares for, equally as much as his sister. Even in the perfect world - a world consumed by the dungeon - Laios does not have a desire to see his friends harmed.... because they are "simple" people.
Chilchuck is outspoken. He's not afraid to growl and snap his teeth, though he struggles with the secrets of his life, and is tight with his affections.
Senshi? He's one of the few who actively support Laios' interest in monsters. He offers advice without cruelty, and anything he says is always genuine and with the best intentions.
I think that Marcille is easily understood by both the Touden siblings due to this. She shows her distaste easily, and her emotions seem to pour out of her. You always know what Marcille is feeling. I think Marcille reciprocates that feeling: As confusing as his desires for monsters might be, she knows Laios will always be there for her. They are a pack. I found it interesting out of all the desires he might feel, he wanted Marcille to be safe and happy. And I would argue it wasn't simply due to the string of the manga, having Marcille as the previous dungeon master. It's a long build-up of their friendship: From the succubus scene to curing Marcille's nightmares.

Tumblr media
I've been reading people's interpretations of this scene, and while I agree with the substance of the take that "Laios is quite isolated and his party often don't understand him", it's not the reading I get from this scene in either the manga or the anime.
So let's review the board, spoilers for episode 18 of the anime, obviously
Tumblr media
Senshi's Laios: very cute, a reflection of his standards of masculinity. Possibly influenced by him being older, by Dwarven ageing, and the fact Laios is clean shaven. He projects similar notions on Chilchuck, and other biases onto Marcille. I feel this can mostly be chalked up to how brief his time with the party currently has been (1-2 weeks).
Chilchuck's Laios: Dangerous, unreasonable, unhinged, and coloured by his long time experience of Laios.
At this point in the story Chil's perception of Laios has changed rapidly due to both the reveal of his monster obsession (back in episode 1, previously suppressed) and the confrontation with Shuro, among other things. As seen in episode 13, he think's Laios is going to suicidally chase Falin to his death. He also thinks his monster obsession is a sign of a disturbed mind (not a suprise given his own experiences of the dungeon).
Marcille's Laios: Quite the opposite of Senshi, Laios' masculinity is exaggerated, which does reflect her Elf beauty standards (male and female Elves are often similarly feminine ).
Specifically for Marcille, she was told Laios looked a lot like Falin, and before meeting him, her opinion of him was really low (see the Falin makeup extras and her retelling the story of being alone after Laios left home, to Marcille).
Now, I've hated people in my lifetime, there's an inclination to be more critical of them than you would other people. Marcille didn't like the comparisons between the two siblings, and so fixated on their differences.
For review, here is there first meeting:
Tumblr media
Marcille came for a fight, clearly her letters didn't tell Falin the whole story. She HATED Laios in this scene. Everything in the three years after was clawing back from this mess.
Look at Laios, not a button a stubble, and neither person got any short or taller in the intervening years. When she gets irate over people saying Falin and Laios look similar, it's because of that mental image broadcasted by the Shapeshifter. That's how she sees him in her mind, the man who took Falin away from her, who made Falin unhappy, and who others have the gall to compare to her dearest friend Falin.
Conclusion: Laios and Falin, their emotional and social alienation, and how they each influence others like Marcille and Kabru; these things are central to the story, and to Laios as a protagonist. The last thing I want it people thinking I'm dismissing that.
But at this point in the story, focusing on that narrative, it's proverbially putting the cart in front of the horse. Structurally, this encounter is a review of party stability moving forward. The previous battle with Chimera Falin put everyone on edge, made them uncertain of their future, and distrustful of Laios.
Laios came out of his fight with Shuro (Toshiro) appearing unobservant to people's appearances and feelings. Marcille and Chilchuck recognise Kabru and Laios didn't. They're suspicious of his abilities. Laios, in turn, knows he has the chance to win them back, knows he fucked up with Shuro (Toshiro) and ruined their friendship.
This encounter is about Laios' shortcomings, reflective of his neurodivergence, the doubts of his party, and how Laios uses his strengths to compensate, and even solve problems his party members can't. Ultimately, this chapter is saying, Laios is different, but he is not lesser, and in a battle against monsters he excels.
The others can point out differences in clothing and speech easily, but those were the tools the shape shifter easily used against them. Laios succeeds precisely because he's focusing on the things others don't pick up on.

Dungeon Menshi spoilers:
It is interesting how in Dungeon Meshi, history of the Golden kingdom is a circle. A power fuel kingdom appearing out of nowhere, lead by a tallman in the world dominated by the long living races. Dergal and his ancestors even have some similarities in look to Laios. As well as Thistle and Marcille being elven court mages, with the fear of loosing their new family because of lifespan difference. And Laios court advisors (Kabru) being cautious of long living races plots the same way that court advisors didn't wanted for the Dergal father to have an adult elven mage in fear of them influencing the king in a wrong way. In general both Laios and Marcille are characters that do not fit their current society. Marcille uses dark arts, now forbidden yet once openly practiced magic, as well as her life span is closer to elves from centuries ago. And Laios while we can't say he would fit better in, in the past, well what about future? His fascination with monsters can remind us of cryptid lovers or even our days biologist! Humans in the past weren't studying animals and if someone would have this kind of hobby they would find it quiet strang I think.
I think this is also part of Dungeon teachings. In the end Marcille and Laios as well as Chilchuck (someone that really fits in the current world.), Senshi and Izutsumi (both not really belonging in the now, yet they don't fit into past and future either.) bring back an ancient kingdom and save the world. It is the fusion of what was is and will be that helps in this task, that helps to creat a better tomorrow. We can not reject the past, we need to learn from it (like Marcille learned from tragedy of Thistle life) and bring the best parts from it with us. We also need to be brave enough to break conventions and typical ways of thinking (As Laios monster fascination and his overthinking of their traits were the key to defeating the Winged Lion). But we can not forget those people of now and those that do not fit (As relationships with and skill set of Chilchuck, Senshi and Izutsumi helped to keep Laios and Marcille grounded and break the Lions hold on them). In the end it will help us to creat a better tomorrow.

Chilchuck is a tsundere dad,
and why did he stick with Laios?
SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 30/48/56/ADVENTURE'S BIBLE ONWARDS.
Chilchuck Tims is a rogue. A bitter old rogue. But I guess it's more accurate to call him a professional adventurer. That's probably what people want to see him as. He's very pragmatic and realistic but sarcastic and prideful. The man is on the verge of retiring with a few things to his name. He founded a halfling union and is respected in his community as *the* guy that can go deeper down the dungeon. Chil gave his life for dungeoneering, he knows the politics and the dirty side of his job. Some people can see him as an insurance in their team. Because he has the skills and brains to keep you safe, go deeper and that you are paid well.
But why the hell did Chilchuck agreed to join on Laios' suicide mission?
Think about it.
Half of Laios' team are either dead or left the group, the remaining is a weird oddball of a leader and the other is a mess of an elf that doesn't really see you as an adult. They both can be reckless and can definitely get themselves killed. The group is also low on supplies and desperate for food. So there's that.
Although he may criticize the group, he is close to one member, Namari. He knows her situation and they share the same pragmatic view and drinks together. So why didn’t he follow in Namari's footsteps.
But yes in chapter 30 we actually got to know that Chilchuck actually cares about the group underneath his cynicism and sarcasm. Because unlike his optimistic and outlandish companions, he is the straight man.
But think again and I know he cares. But if he actually cared, he would not let Laios and Marcille to even set foot in the dungeon to their death. Remember he agreed to these deadly conditions before meeting Senshi. Deadly conditions that a seasoned adventurer like himself should already know. But he accepted it and was calmer about it as well.
So, does he trust the group? Does he not trust the group? Should he trust Laios?
Lets look at Chilchuck's most polarizing topic, group relations.
Despite Chil's critical nature, I think in my opinion Chilchuck respects and recognize everyone's strengths and weaknesses. But because he knows people's qualities, he likes to point them out and berate them from making further mistakes. He's harsh, but he wants to keep everyone alive. So that's why I think he sometimes see Laios and Marcille as immature or irresponsible at time. In turn, I think he sees himself as the most capable/reliable person in the group. With good reasons of course.
He knows how close Falin is to everybody, he will surely keep note of it. So when Laios and Marcille are automatically ready to save Falin despite deadly odds, I don't think he's surprised, he's sure they will die for Falin and no one will be there to revive them. But I don't think Chilchuck wants to see the remaining member go to their deaths and as the person that's supposed to keep everyone alive, he must have some guilt. After all, in some ways, he still cares for his own family, so he might understand Laios. But because of how reckless Laios is and how stubborn Marcille can be, I don't think he can stop them from going further. He'll help and he'll just ride along with these insane people.
Abit related. Isn't this against his halfling union's objective. Using a highly skilled halfling to their advantage on minimal pay to go on a deadly adventure. Surely this breaks his own code, right? But he does it anyways.
Despite not liking interpersonal group conflict and being as professional as possible. There's a point in time that Chilchuck actually got attached to them, to the point where he will break his own code. Whether he likes it or not. I think that he thinks that without him, the group and/or the rescue will break apart quickly and he really does not want his group to break.
Chilchuck is not tragic (compared to others), he has a relatively normal life but definitely unfortunate. Unlike the rest, his loss at most is his wife leaving him. The loss of a love fleeing you for a reason you do not know, the fear of chasing is evident. He also keeps in touch with his daughters as well. He cares but I guess prefers an independent approach.
I did notice the way he describe his daughters is similar to how he sees the others. He describe his daughters weakness, interest and strengths. He's perceptive not just with his senses, but others as well. Like how he knew that Laios have always wanted to try eating monsters and how peculiar Senshi is. He has to know people to keep them safe of course, that's how he shows that he cares.
To dive deeper, the way he cares is different from others. Senshi takes on the more nurturing approach, he sees the others as younglings that needs to feed and take care of, to protect them is his responsibility. Chilchuck is different, although he is similar. He makes sure that they are safe and criticize their bad behavior, but he respects their privacy and freedom. He criticize Laios, but for the majority, he lets Laios leads. Because unlike Senshi, he actually has kids, he has 3 adult kids. He expects better and for them to behave up to his expectations, as proper adults.
The relationship between Chilchuck and Laios is interesting. Chilchuck knows Laios' objective and he knows he can't stop it. But he also knows that Laios can be reckless and unconventional. However, he also knows Laios can be experimental and creative, but this too can blow up on his face. So to make sure that everyone (including Laios) do not explode, he has to be there. But he knows it has to be Laios to hold the torch and lead it himself, Chilchuck just has to guide and help him sometimes. Also I think Chil is a tsundere and actually likes Laios.
Chilchuck Tims has a pride bigger than himself. He'll stick by you because he likes you even if he won't say it. There are many times where his dad like behavior comes to play, particular with criticizing Laios and respecting Izutsumi. But he is ultimately someone that will make sure everyone is safe and sound.

the touden siblings are probably drop-outs in a modern setting
in college they make laios do things he doesn't want, homework that doesn't have any use in real life, he has to take courses he's not interested in (and he knew this but still wanted to give it a chance), he doesn't mind group projects if everyone puts in effort but there's always someone that doesn't do their part and it's frustrating, the professors are okay, but not outstanding, it really doesn't help.
he thinks this is not for him, he looks at the others and thinks How tf can they do it, he looks at shuro with his big eye bags and feels bad for him, kabru looks better, he always looks like he has control over everything and even if that's not the case, it doesn't affect him (thats how it looks, but in reality he fantasies about killing his classmates everyday)
falin doesnt go to college, she decided she didn't like it, she takes short courses of stuff she's interested in and that's it, studies with marcille some days and marcille says falin would be the best student out there, falin only smiles.
both work so it's not really important if they have a career, I mean, it would definitely improve their life quality but they are okay for now. the rent is not that expensive, senshi cooks for them sometimes and invites them to eat even though he doesn't have to, he even tells them when there's sales(?) or gives them coupons when he can. chilchuck acts like he doesn't care about them but sends them gifts when it's their birthday or christmas. marcille is always buying falin stuff and going out with her "it's on me" she says and falin lets her crash at her place. izutsumi crashes sometimes too, mostly in marcille's place, they don't know what she does or where she lives but she looks fine and healthy so they don't give it much of a thought

Okey so I saws the last episode of Dunmeshi and I need to talk about the shapeshifters.
I think is pretty obvious which belong to wich, meaning who on the team remembered each one that specific way... if you watched you got me
Im not gonna explain every single one but the last shapeshifters the closest to the real ones.
STARTO
MARCILLE!!!
Tumblr media
This one belong 100% to Laios and is awesome, Laios can not remeber the little details about his friens, like Chilichuck scarf or Senshi's helmet so he doesn't remeber Marcille's hair multiple hairstyle so he just get her hair free BUT surprinsingly he does remeber the detail in her spellbook CAUSE HE'S BEEN STUDYING IT that is such a detail and I love it.
Tumblr media
But I love more the implication that Laios think highley of the love Marcille feels for Falin, believing at heart that Marcille would do anything to save his sister. This man doesnt know what lesbians are but he certainly not what love is
Tumblr media
CHILCHUCK!!!
Tumblr media
Okey I'll be honest i have my doubts with this one, but for the sake of the ship let's say this was Senshi XD I'm kidding, this man belong to Senshi.
What is my doubt? Since Senshi and Marcille are from long-lived races they both infantilize Chilchuck and Laios, BUT this copy is not the baby face one, meaning is not the most infantileze one, But most important the tools of this copy were mostly right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marcille doesn't give a shit about Chichuck's tools, she doesn't need to or want to but in guess who in fricking EPISODE 2 (so soon in the anime and already a ship) have a whole arc where he observes Chilchuck works up close, developing a deep respect for what Chilchuck does getting familiar with said tools
Tumblr media
Implications: Senshi watch this man up close, giving him more attention than any other member of the party, he is the one he rely on the most, but he's predjuice are strong and he cannot help thinking of him as a cute little child SICK and not in a good way thats you future husband >:0
Tumblr media
y por ultimo pero no menos importante
SENSHI!!!!
Tumblr media
GAY GAY HOMOSEXUAL GAY ejem this is from Chilchuck and I live for it
What can I say that you dont already know?
not-Senshi being the handsome one
Chilchuck inmediatly noticing the lack of the helmet detail in the Laios copy
the fact that when confronted with the fact that not-Senshi is more handsome than the real one (which rude, Marcille we can not all be lesbians like you >:0) he's just like "No, Senshi has always been handsome" re ofendido XD
y OJITO Laios said cool, Chilchuck just said Senshi has always been like that LIKE WHAT? HANDSOME? YEAH WE KNOW!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(though this was also a very gay moment for Laios)
LOOK HOW IS THE REAL CHILCHUCK WHO'S MORE RILED UP BY HANDSOME SENSHI
Tumblr media
and the gratuitous beef to my man wtf what do you mean dumb looking one? XD no puedo es demasiado XD
This episode was too much fun the whole characters interaction just got me.
The memes the gifs LAIOS BARKING DOG LAIOS IS REAL
and ... the way I developed an instant crush on Itsuzumi here:
Tumblr media
NOTE I don't actually have a crush on Izutsumi, I know her from the manga and she is pretty much a cat, which cute, but ... not my type lets just say that.
But in this shot they are just my tipe of guy, haven't been touch for a single ray of sun on their, have never eat a proper meal, doesn't even register the concept and doesn't know what you mean by wash hair? what is that some kinda of joke?

I didn't really wanna talk ahead of the Dungeon Meshi anime but I had this thought bugging me as I was skimming the manga. So, spoilers for what's to come.
I don't think it's any coincidence that Laios' party, out of a cast of infinitely more capable people, makes it to the final floor of the Dungeon. Why? Cause they aren't heroes.
Look at Kabru, he's the poster boy for anime protagonists. He has a tragic backstory, a personal beef with the dungeon, skills trained by a master of the crafts, and a large party who seems genuinely friendly together. He has everything going for him to one day dive to the bottom and gain closure for his story but he just can't. He never will, because the dungeon does not work on his logic. It turns out that there is no plot armor against hearing a siren sing for the first time.
What about Mithrun then? Personally wronged by the Demon, he's the paradigm of vengeance. A tragic hero who will do anything it takes to get to his goal and probably die achieving it. He has a party full of dark history and interesting dynamics, really laden with moral greyness. Not Berserk but a step closer to it than Kabru's story. But he is, unfortunately, also a classic hero archetype, and although his skills are impressive they aren't fit for the ecosystem around him, singleminded vengeance will see you killed by changelings, the cold, or starvation.
Shuro, it's gotta be Shuro right? A man from a distant land but a familiar one to the primary readerbase. He goes back to train, hone his mind, collect a party, and save the love interest from a cruel fate. Perhaps he will learn there is no saving her, and tragically be forced to slay the monster she's become. His journey ends the second Faligon dies, so he has no chance, ever, of becoming the Dungeon Lord. There doesn't need to be any extra traps to deter him, he'll get what he wants at the fourth level and be gone, his desire simply isn't pointed that way.
Laios, on the other hand. None of his party are heroes, they're all here for selfish reasons and have absolutely zero illusions about heroics and greater goods. Laios is here to save Falin, he only wants his sister to be safe. And to eat and document monsters. Marcille is here for forbidden magic and Falin, and her two desires coincide with her resurrection. Chilchuck is here because he got paid up front and can't leave without rumors spreading. Senshi was always here and he just wants to live in peace with nature. None of them have heroic intent, broadly. But it also means they don't have heroic conceit either.
Laios' party will eat anything. They'll run from battle, take shortcuts. They treat monsters not as grand challenges to overcome but something to fight for their lives with. With their teeth if need be. There is no honor here there is only living. Honor gets you strangled by treasure bugs. Revenge will see you abandon your party to giant spiders for the mere shot at your target. Duty sees you skipping meals because your goal is so important. It is striking how different the dungeon is between Laios and the others. They all treat the dungeon as their personal hell to be striven against and conquered, only Laios sees it as an extension of the living world and understands his place in it. And I think that is so fucking cool, it's so multifaceted. Like, their exact skill set is perfect for getting through the dungeon because of how they all treat it. But also because the dungeon wants them there, because they have very personal, strong desires. Desires that shape their skills, and desires shaped by their skills in a kind of Ouroboros.
And it's an interesting question of how much of both factors into their progress in the story.

sooooo i may have. spent my day binge watching dungeon meshi and here are my Opinions, having never read the manga ever (very MINOR ANIME SPOILERS ahead! nothing too in-depth but, y'know, for laughs):
laios is my autistic blorbo son boy and i love him and i want him to be happy. go find your sister, dude, but also eat monsters for fun and research reasons. this is the one context where i would say "eat monsters" like... ever
laios is also 1,000 percent a freak for wanting to eat monsters and study them the way he does. absolutely insane man. stop trying to be a martyr, you dumbass, and also stop poisoning yourself. both of these opinions coexist at the same time and i don't know how to feel about it because feelings (and social cues) are difficult
marcille is a lady who is so so SO smart and cool, but has absolutely ZERO street smarts. (babygirl you are JUST like me, except for the whole "being a woman" thing.) she's a "gifted" kid who now has burnout and needs to feel useful or else she feels like a failure constantly kinda girlie. she doesn't want to be abandoned. relatable. i'm concerned at how much i relate to her. stop being so relatable, dammit!!
chilchuck is INCREDIBLY emotionally constipated. lmao. he also has chronic young-forever face, which means he probably gets mistaken for a twelve-to-sixteen-year-old constantly, which... same, dude, same. i've heard (from the manga readers) that he's divorced with several children, but i don't know if that's true. i hope it is. i really want that to be where part of his issues come from. i want more angsty moments with his character. he'll be my new emotional punching bag when i finish all those other unrelated one-shots i'm planning on writing :)
senshi is a sweet man who just wants to feed and protect his new friends. i think food and acts of service are his love languages. he has a really fuckin' strong pot and knife for some reason lmao
i love falin. she's kind of a freak too, but she knows social cues better than her brother from what i can tell. sure hope nothing bad happens to her- oh gods. well, i sure hope nothing ELSE bad happens to her- OH GODS OH FUCK-
uhhhh. i like that the kobolds in this anime are dog-people. i love dogs. dogs are cool. very cute. 12/10 decision honestly
this anime made me so hungry but i still forgot to eat for most of today. rip. the food in dungeon meshi looks goddamn delicious though, so it's fine
sometimes these characters act just like a D&D party would. like. damn. this is just like that ONE TIME in dungeons and dragons when our party did [X action] and then [Y consequences] happened-
oh my goddddddssss there's ECOSYSTEMS IN THE DUNGEONS??? DUDE I LOVE THAT. CRAZY CONCEPT. FUCKING LOVE THAT. ADVENTURERS AND MONSTERS AND CREATURES (and senshi, who is his own category) ARE PART OF AN ECOSYSTEM. I'M CLIMBING UP THE WALLS AND GOING INSANE RN
oooohhhh shit politics. oh shit background politics that our main characters ignored. no wonder they focused on this other party lol
OH SHIT OTHER CHARACTERS FROM THEIR BACKSTORIES RRRRRAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
oh yeah i guess this is about whoever gets the big treasure at the bottom of the dungeon or whatever if they defeat the Big Bad or something? okay dude. it's only relevant to me when it's relevant to my New Blorbos honestly. but i WILL jot that down though :eyes emoji:
look. i am NOT calling it "delicious in dungeon". i KNOW that's the creator's intended english translation, but personally i think that title sucks. so DUNGEON MESHI it is, for me personally
PLEASE give me the second season right now i need MORE. i'm slurping up this show like soup and i'm fucking HOMGRY!!!
okay that's it that you for comjng to my ted talk

Marchil crumbs part 2
Part 1 here - part 3 - part 4 - part 5 - part 6 - part 7
Unlike my other crumbs masterposts I'm gonna be doing the marchil one through different posts rather than reblogs because copy pasting my drafts would be hell. Are you surprised there are enough crumbs that this part got past 30 pics? Yeah me too ngl. Part 3 is already full too, ooh boy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beginning vs end (chapter 23 vs chapter 96)~ Oh how far they have come
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She sees him as dependable! For good reasons, despite him generally staying out of fights, but it's still nice to see her appreciating him.
More of him rushing to help her, and a bonus of the reverse:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's keep looking at early Chilchuck & Marcille for a bit. I'll likely repeat myself between parts of this masterpost but they really do stick together and are on the same wavelenght quite a fair bit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I state my case once more: comrades in disgust. It's more than that too, though! Despite their differences, despite their relationship being strictly professional, despite him dreading her addition to the party at first, he truly does care about her and values her perspective on this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chilchuck above is straight up implying that Marcille is the moral compass of the party, and seemingly appreciates that about her.
In part 1, I mentioned how they do argue, but always talk it out and it never turns into resentment between them, but I didn't show examples. Now is the time! Let's see how they hash things out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's not offput by his brash demeanor and is very open to explaining. They don't typically tend to budge on the issues they debate, but they do have an earnest conversation with each other and the other doesn't fall in their esteem for it.
The biggest disagreements they've had is definitely Marcille using dark magic and the bicorn chapter, which was a both-way moment of tension between them. It was when she hassled him about a sensitive topic (his wife) and when he lied to her that he had cheated on his wife, because of that during the chapter Marcille is very cold towards him (but even then rushes to his aid and is worried for him when hurt etc etc), until he later opens up andthey have agoodlong good-natured chat about it, by the end they're both back to normal and laughing together. It's definitely the most Marcille & Chilchuck centric chapter out there, at this point give it a reread though we're running a tight ship here and it's 30 pics max.
Ok. Tangent over, back to how even though there are disagreements they don't fall in each other's esteem. Maybe it's more that they trust each other to have common sense really, which is running rare in these parts, but... When they were apprehended by Shuro’s party, Chilchuck isn’t worried about leaving Marcille by herself, unlike with Senshi and Laios. And this wasn’t a decision without weight either, because this is JUST after she has used dark magic, but her letting that information slip and landing them into trouble doesn’t even occur to him. For a good reason since Laios ends up being the one to do just that... It's as much as a confirmation as we can get that he thinks she has the most common sense and social skills out of the party
Tumblr media
And speaking of putting stock in others: They strategize together and appreciate each other’s input very often! Part 1 already had some but here some more:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do like how he gets to manhandle her after he gets manhandled himself so often lol. There’s also smth to be said about him having seen her as an halfling, since his type is blonde halfling women… Bonus of Marcille being the very contrary of enamored with Chilchuck's changeling form:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
----
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is the best wingman. Has nothing but best of intentions. She wants to know her friends aka him better!! "I’ll invite you guys to meet my family" from Chilchuck means the world and more, they’re def not just coworkers anymore and man. MAN!!! Chil breaching that bridge for her. Him doing this because he knows she really wants that, AND blushing madly... If you wanna go the extra delulu mile it's kinda like he's opening his family up to her and fully letting her in, and may I add inviting her into his family perhaps even like something resembling a proposal after which she showers him in flowers and lover's gifts and-
Tfw you need to make sure your friend doesn’t get an inflated price/you make sure your girl gets only the best. This comic means they went shopping together btw, despite how he dislikes waiting after people ♡
Tumblr media
Nothing to say about these they're just funny:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He do be keeping an eye and an ear out for her
Part 3 is here!
With juicy tidbits such as more of Chilchuck drooling over blond hair and them interacting across a table in the golden kingdom. Very fun very fun

Perhaps some day we could have a serious conversation about why despite her amazing character designs and great variety in body types compared to other mangaka, Kui Ryoko still chose to have all but one (two arguably) of the characters with an active leader role in the story of Dungeon Meshi to be men.
Spoilers below.
It is a fantastic manga, to quote a post I've read a while ago (paraphrasing), Dunmeshi is 95 chapters long and no panel is irrelevant. But! Out of all the groups in the story only one is led by a woman (elf queen) and she does not actually participate in it.
Laios' party has Marcille, but she is at best "second in command" if you will, as much as Chilchuck is.
Kabru's party, the orcs, the governor(s), the gnomes' party, the canaries, Shuro's party, the dwarfs and even the golden kingdom (Delgal and Thistle). Fionil and Doni are minor characters and they're a party of two, we could assume both share the "leader" position.
One can find excuses to each of those choices, but at the end of the day the choice was made to make them men.
Kabru could have been a woman, it would not change anything at all.
Zon and Leed could have swapped places, with the older sister leading and taking a less violent approach to the hotheaded younger brother.
Either/both of the governors could have been women, no difference.
The leading, more vocal and abrasive of the gnomes could have been the old lady and the quiet one the old man. I struggle to see if anything would change at all.
The canaries are mostly women, and they were led by Milsiril back in the day and the queen leads them, technically. Still, the choice was made to have Mithrun in the role of Mithrun with everything it represents. Could it have been the younger sister that has her love stolen by the older one, would the dynamics be the same? Tempted to have the life she could not get by the demon, getting eaten (but not fully!) and seeking revenge? Would Milsiril spare her this time? We can't tell, Mithrun is a man. It was a choice made by Kui-sensei.
Could Shuro have been a woman? Seeing as he's the fantasy equivalent of a japanese young lord(!) probably not(?) in terms of how it would be presented. A young lady with her entourage chasing after her unrequited love and getting beaten to it by another lesbian? Sorry but this looks like the kind of ntr I enjoy now. But I don't think it would be the same conflict with Shuro/Marcille and Shuro/Laios. It could(!) work, but not in the kind of story where (almost) all the leaders are men.
Could the dwarves have been women? I don't see why not. Senshi could have been inspired by a mother figure (or older sister) as much as he was by his mentor (whether you see it as a father/older brother/something else figure). All the women in the party starving while the young kid survives? I won't even call it sexist (<- not joking).
Could Delgal have been a queen instead? What about Yaad being a princess? Or Thistle, still a jester but a woman now? Which manga readers thought he was, for a while. It would require an author that doesn't put the importance on the king while the queen is irrelevant.
Am I overthinking things? There are a lot of important characters who are women in the story of Dunmeshi. People have jokingly described the plot as a lesbian trying to resurrect her girlfriend, and it would be accurate although not fully correct.
But the issue remains that all leaders except for the elf queen are men. I don't believe it was by chance. It might have been a deliberate choice for reasons that I can see, or it might have been completely unconscious when designing the characters and writing the story.
What a shame.

Chekhov Reads Dungeon Meshi: CH47
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would like to thank Ryoko Kui for this.
Tumblr media
I really love how, despite being antagonistic with Chilchuck, Izutsumi seems to like Marcille and him the best out of all the rest.
Tumblr media
You know they're Japanese pancakes with that amount of air padding them out.... 😂
Tumblr media
You know, it's interesting because if I remember correctly, taste is the oldest sense we have. Basic organisms surviving in water needed to be able to taste the environment in order to allow it to move away from acidic water, or dangerous environments. So it's curious that their taste is no longer working while their other senses remain.
Tumblr media
....sounds like it was maybe less of the...power.... and maybe more of the fact that his old childhood friend was growing old?
....... y'know. Just suggesting...
Tumblr media
To fight a trainer with a powerful pokemon, you must first capture a powerful pokemon yourself.
Tumblr media
AIEEEEE~
Tumblr media
I was JUST about to say "man, this kid seems to be a genuinely good leader! His people don't fear him and he has a good head on his shoulders. I sure hope nothing bad happens to him!"
And here we are.
Tumblr media
Oooooh a forest? Or one of those water places.
Update: One of those water places. A cistern.
Tumblr media
Her charm wore off! And now she can experience unspeakable horrors of being known in a vulnerable state.
Tumblr media
Someone get this poor man some google maps.
Tumblr media
Laios, why do you look.... less than thrilled with this information?
Oh, his Fixation Sense is tingling, that's why.
Tumblr media
Oh? Rare Senshi moment of stubbornness?
Mayhaps even.... A BACKSTORY?
Tumblr media
When the party is in Analysis Paralysis and the DM says 'roll initiative'
Tumblr media
Marcille is taking this Crazy Future Girlfriend thing to all new highs.
Tumblr media
Is he afraid of birds? Or lions? Or both? What is happening here? It makes no sense. It would be delicious! Senshi, stop that's like 60 kg of chicken wings, easy!
BONUS:
Tumblr media
Here's the thing. They aren't like, twins necessarily. But I do think that Falin, while she's just as weird as Laios is, makes herself approachable to people. She cares about ghosts as beings, instead of seeing them only as a scientific anomaly.
But other than that.... honestly I feel like Toshi wouldn't fall in love with a female Laios either.
Tumblr media
Marcille and Falin being MORE likely to go out to the dungeon as women makes sense somehow. Though I am amused at how femme-leaning all elves are naturally.
I think these gender twists are all pretty surface level but given that it's a conversation the party has in real time... I get it.

Dungeon Meshi Season 1, Episode 3 Review
I think it was fantastic, and like the other episodes my complaints are all so minor, they're basically nitpicks. Spoilers below!
The Japanese subtitles are still kinda bad, when you watch the English dub afterwards it somehow manages to better convey the same information without leaving anything out. Japanese performances are fantastic but yeah the subtitles really suck a lot of the life out of them. There's some gems in the dub performance, like Chilchuck saying "Sword, please" to Laios instead of "can I borrow your sword" or something more elaborate.
Everything that was good about the original manga chapters is in this episode, and this was one of the early chapters that hooked me and my spouse into Dungeon Meshi - seeing how Laios figured out the living armor and how he defeated it was something really cool and thoughtful that stood out from other media to us. It was clever and novel and went into monsters and speculative biology in a way that we both adored. This episode is also the one that really foreshadows the rest of the series and it's themes. If something is alive, it desires something, and if you can figure out what it desires you can find a way to defeat it. If something is alive, you can kill it, and if you can kill it you can eat it.
All of the fight scenes in this episode are incredible, and there's tons of fun camera shots and interesting choices being made. Love the bit where Marcille catches a helmet in the loop of her staff. Also loved the bit where she caught Laios' head in the loop of her staff and shook him around angrily. They found ways to include information from the extra monster tidbits into the main narrative, which is fantastic! I'm hoping they'll be able to do this for the rest of the anime as well, because there's a LOT of vital information and funny jokes in the tidbits that enhance the story.
So nice to finally have our first Senshi panty shot and know that they'll at least give us some of those.
Though the animation is spectacular, there is a noticeable style shift between the first two episodes and 3. They obviously have some very talented animators working on this episode (the suits of armor are all rock solid, detailed, and move in fantastic ways) but they are NOT really good at drawing the human characters on-model and it shows. It's not awful but it is noticeable. I'm glad they at least were able to keep it consistent, the characters look that way through the whole episode and don't switch back and forth between individual scenes. That would have been a lot more distracting. Pet peeve, I hated the gag with the egg sack flying through cosmic space to show Laios had figured out the secret of the armor. I didn't think it was that funny, and I felt it interrupted the flow of the already very exciting and tense fight scene. Just the memory sequence being drawn in such a crazy loose style was enough for me! And the style of it flying through the cosmos and everything just felt very out of place and modern. Oh, and Laios says "oh my god" at one point in the dub, which also annoys me, but I think is better than "jeez" since a pagan could theoretically say "oh my god."
But overall a fantastic episode and it gives me a lot of hope for the rest of the series. I was worried that they were going to compress the story too much and try to fit 4 chapters into this episode, because of how they put 3 chapters into episode 2, but they gave this 2-chapter story room to breathe, which it very much needed. Can't wait for next week! I think we'll get the golem story as well as the orcs.
