I think this needs to be said:

Despite what social media may want you to believe, you're not a bad person and you shouldn't beat yourself up for having held bigoted beliefs in the past, if you've worked on deconstructing, educating, and improving yourself and your mind, and now you know better and do better.

We are all products of our environments. None of us grew up completely free from bigotry. To paraphrase Ladyspeech Sankofa: unless you've spent your whole life living in a cave, you're not free from the influences of a capitalist society. At one point of another, you simply may not have known better, and that just happens, and it happens to all of us.

It is the responsibility of every one of us to continue growing, learning, and working on ourselves. And as long as we are doing that, and we keep doing that, the past is in the past, and past mistakes don't define who we are in the present.

I see others complain about fat people for being, well, fat. Like are you advocating against medical neglect or are you just sitting there complaining about people not fitting your beauty standards? Oh, okay. Fat people being fat is not the problem. The medical neglect is. Advocate against it and you might see some change. Just a thought! But what do I know, right? I’m just an ugly fat person who just needs to change their diet and exercise more even though I literally have a medical condition! That has been neglected before! So it isn’t that simple!

Fatphobia and ableism go hand in hand.

And if you were to ask LadySpeech Sankofa (my idol), the intersectionality of fatphobia, racism, antiblackness, etc. can basically be traced back to white supremacy and colonialism.

I grew up with a colorist, antiblack, homophobic, and ableist mother.

I have had to do a hell of a ton of mental work and deconstruction, from my teenage years to now.

Yes, even now, as a disabled queer woman of color.

Racism, colorism, antiblackness, queerphobia, xenophobia, fatphobia, transmisogyny, misogynoir, ableism... are all foundations as well as products of an inherently white supremacist, capitalist society, in which we all grew up socialized and conditioned in full immersion. Unless you've spent your whole life living in a cave away from all human contacts, you're not immune to internalizing any of them.

And it is the responsibility of every single one of us to work on ourselves, to think about these things, to question, to listen, to constantly deconstruct our minds and ways of thinking.

In the words of LadySpeech Sankofa: you arrogant as a motherfucker, if you think you don't need to do this.

Because none of us are immune to internalized prejudices.

Marginalized people don't exist to comfort you. Ethnic minorities don't exist to coddle and cosset you. Nobody is obligated to do the work for you.
