time to talk about this insta post

(because i have time on my hands and i hate myself)

So I've seen a few people react to this post and wanted to add my thoughts as someone who identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community (i'm a nonbinary ace lesbian).

I realise the person who made the insta post is probably very young but they're also a cishet person talking about queer stories and queer experiences in a somewhat insensitive way and I wanted to add my two cents as someone who joined this fandom as a fifteen-year-old and at 29 is now a fandom "elder".

(update: since writing this post, i have learned that not only is the original poster 22 years old of age, but also incredibly racist, antisemitic and insensitive about people's deaths, so yeah we're not gonna be charitable to them)

firstly, as the person who made the post is cishet, it's not their place to dictate what is and isn't "good" trans representation. it's also not their place to dictate whether or not they are "a transphobic". when discussing issues around trans representation, if you aren't a part of that community, you should sit back and listen to trans people (and you might learn something so you don't look so ignorant)

it's also super weird to say sheldon bieste shouldn't be trans because "they could have just focused on unique instead". you can have more than one trans character!!! ALL the characters could be trans if you want!

i can't believe i even need to say this but ... gay and bi trans men exist. non-heterosexual trans people of all genders exist.

"i know lots of people ship them and i'm not trying to cancel your opinions..." and yet here you are, trying and failing to convince people not to ship them.

listen friend - crackships exist. shippers gonna ship. sometimes people just don't like the canon ships and that's ok.

"Klaine may have some problems but it doesn't mean there is a need to ship them with another guy" - has it occurred to you that the people who ship Kurtbastian and Seblaine don't like Klaine?

*the next point is about Kurt in Laryngitis and I don't really have anything to say about it

this is the one that I sort of agree with but I didn't like Dani (she gave me Arielle Scarcella fan vibes and was probably a TERF) so I'm biased. at the risk of sounding like one of those people who defends their fave even when they're being kind of dickbags ... the biphobia started with Dani/Santana wanting to "impress" Dani who is (a) maybe the first out lesbian she's ever met and (b) openly biphobic. I also headcanon Santana as having ADHD and think Dani was kind of a hyperfixation of hers

...if quinn not into girls why dianna play her so gay?

"i always wondered what it would be like to be with a woman" is a very fruity thing for a straight person to say let's be real

here's a fun idea though: how about let's not just assume that everyone is straight?

"i don't get why santana tries to get brittany while she is dating artie" ummmm because she has a crush on brittany ... what, is she supposed to just turn off her feelings just because brittany's dating someone else? she is neurodivergent and a minor a 16 year old child homie, give her a break jfc...

(obviously she didn't go about her feelings towards brittany in s2 or s4 in the best way but she was also young at the time and not great at communicating but i think it's important to recognise that she did get better as the series went on and brittana grew stronger as a couple in the long run)

as for "santana doesn't recognise brittany as bi" ... santana literally said in her proposal to brittany that doing it in front of the glee club would "upset all the single guys and gals" so obviously she is aware that brittany is attracted to people of different genders and openly acknowledges it.

i genuinely don't know what to say about this... i'm more of a casual klaine enjoyer so we're not at the level of deep philosophical analysis yet but if anyone wants to take this one (looking at you, scout) be my guest.

"i don't understand the hate towards klaine in s4 as a couple" ... i mean they weren't really a couple because they were broken up for most of season 4

blaine has really grown on me recently but "i needed you and you weren't there" wasn't much of an apology

the OP of the post has also said some sketchy things about race to a twitter mutual of mine, i.e. saying mercedes is racist against white people, which ......

so ... in summary

headcanons exist. webster defines headcanon as "something that a fan imagines to be true about a character even though no information supporting that belief is spelled out in the text"

while we live in a cisheteronormative society, we should refrain from assuming everyone is cis and/or straight.

it's okay for fans to prefer a crack couple over a canon couple (as long as they tag appropriately).

if you're a cishet person in a queer space, you need to approach queer stories with care and respect, and sometimes that involves not talking when you don't have experience with something

reverse racism doesn't exist

don't be racist or antisemitic, and definitely don't say insensitive shit about people's deaths

eat the rich and fuck the patriarchy

Always! I don't always respond right away, but I always respond eventually. I appreciate getting comments and I want people to know that I've read them and appreciated them. And it can be fun to have a little chat about the story I'm creating sometimes, too :)

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

He Forgets Me, He Forgets Me Not. It's a very sad one-shot that ends with major character death and a funeral, so, yeah.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I don't think I ever write happy endings? Just kidding, I probably have more happy endings than sad. Happiest is maybe Keep It Simple? Ends with a proposal and I think it's really understated and sweet and yeah.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Surprisingly not really... which is good because I'm Delicate and don't handle criticism of my creative endeavours well.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Bestie a better question is if I write anything other than smut. I have written... so much smut. Out of curiosity I checked the top tags on my explicit rated fics, and this is the list (17 fics total for reference):

I think that's a pretty good reflection. There's also often something that's just like, a little bit more risque, but usually nothing too out there. Not that I'm opposed to writing something very out there. I did post non-con tentacle porn once, so.

I don't but it's really only because I've never written for a fandom other than Glee. I have a few ideas swirling in my head for Glee AUs based in another universe, but I'm not sure if that would count even if I did get around to writing them.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not to my knowledge. I've considered trying to translate my own fics into French for the practice, but then I remembered I'm not even remotely good enough at French to do that.

A couple times yes! Did You Hear That? and Kurtbastian 2020 Advent Calendar

Kurtbastian <3 there's just something about them you know? Maybe you don't. But that's okay, because I do, and that's what matters.

15. WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

The Hazards of Love series... I had a whole thing planned out when I first started it, and I breezed through the first two parts, but then I got distracted with other things and it just feels way too hard to come back to now and I feel like I've changed a lot as a writer, too... and it's kind of niche and not something most people would want to read anyway, so I don't even have that as a motivator.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm good at dramatic scenarios/describing the feelings of a character who is Going Through It. I love a good internal monologue that involves freaking out about something or discovering something about themselves or denying something about themselves or whatever else. I also really love writing big blow-out arguments, and I think I'm pretty good at those, too.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Actually writing anything lol. But also I kind of struggle with writing group settings or anything where stuff is actually happening? I get so caught up in writing dialogue and internal thoughts that I don't really know what to do when there are actually Things Occurring.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

I wouldn't do it beyond a word or two because I just don't know any other languages well enough to do that. I'm not opposed to it in theory if someone knows multiple languages or has help from someone who does, but ideally they'd also provide a translation so I don't need to take it to Google translate myself (and potentially lose some of the meaning)

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Glee and I'm still here babeyyyyyy

20. Favourite fic you've written?

Gotta be my baby, It Was Only A Kiss. She is my most successful fic by an absolutely absurd margin, but honestly I think she deserves it. I poured a lot of effort into that story and it wasn't always fun but it paid off really well. It's definitely the work that I'm most proud of, and I think has some of my best writing.

I read with interest your view and that of @hopefulobjectmiracle about tumblr Klaine fandom. Is there more shipping these days than 2010-15? I ask because there seems to be a smaller group that only ship Kurt with Blaine but there seems to be a huge rise in Kurtbastian and Hevans shippers. Likewise, there’s many more pezberry or faberry shippers. And a lot more of those shippers trying to discredit Blaine or Brittany as OTP for Kurt and Santana. There seems to be new younger people joining Tumblr declaring a love for all things Klaine, and then a week later shipping Kurt with everybody else!! Has there been a change since the show aired?

Hmmm.... There's not really a clear answer to this because the way shipping evolved is different than people just finding things now.

There are kind of two different things going on here -- Kurt related shipping and non-Kurt (blaine/klaine) shipping. I can't tell you much about non related Kurt things -- however, I will say that Faberry was HUGE when the show was on. It's a subsection of the fandom I never interacted with but it was around in season 1, and loud enough that the show makes nod to it from season 2 forward. Brittana was always around, too, and the reason Brittana became a thing on the show was, partly, due to fans crying out that they should be a couple -- and more than the throwaway joke the writers made in the first season.

I don't know what happened to those ships over time, or how the evolved since the show ended -- I'm sorry :/

But now, I will tell you the epic history of Kurt shipping. (Again. i should really dig out my old notes on this, lol)

Here we go long post...

I found it! I'm going to quote myself so I don't have to write it out again, lol. This was originally from an ask about the BBO (Better Boyfriend Olympics), but it'll work here, too.

Okay, so let’s go back to 2010 when there wasn’t a Klaine fandom, there was a Kurt fandom. A lot of the BBO stemmed out of the Kurt’s Boyfriend Shipping wars of 2010.

Back then, there was just a Kurt fandom, and a lot of opinions about who he should date. Believe it or not, Kurt was shipped a lot with the other guys on the show, there was a healthy dose of Kurt/Finn, but Kurt/Puck was huge, and there was a smattering of Kurt/Mike (I never really did see much Kurt/Artie now that I think of it, which is kind of funny in retrospect, but I’m sure it’s out there.) Anyway - when the show announced Kurt was getting a boyfriend – well, things began to get heated up.

Three big ships emerged

Kurt/Sam - because the rumor was that Sam was originally supposed to be Kurt’s bf (probably not, but that rumor was big at the time). Btw, they were the canoe ship (I have no idea why) and was also known as Kum (rolls-eyes). This ship’s fanbase was so huge and lasted so long, that the show felt the need to address it head on in Season Two’s Rumours (not a joke).

Kurt/Karofsky - Also known as Kurtofsky, they were also called themselves the Pirate ship (god, Idk why, shipping wars are weird, yo). These people were also really passionate, mostly about Dave, but liked the whole idea that Kurt would save Dave and they would have this weird - enemies to loves love affair or something. I don’t know, I could never get past the squicky assault aspect, but whatever.

Kurt/Blaine - which. at the time, was… the biggest possibility? It’s funny cause the other two ships were just as big as the Klaine ship, and really the fighting became over who was going to be the best option for Kurt.

And that’s the thing. Fans of Kurt were so passionate about who was best for Kurt, because everyone had seen him go through hell and back on the show, so his boyfriend needed to be perfect for him. And you know who was perfect (at first) – Blaine. More on that in a second…

However, Blaine brought his own bit of baggage – namely fans of Darren Criss (and/or Starkid fans). Unlike Chord Overstreet or Max Adler, people knew who Darren was before he was on Glee. So his own fandom joined in on the Klaine of it all. At first it was all fine – as the shipping wars continued, it was less about Kurt vs Blaine and more about Klaine vs the other shippers. Well, that was going to change….

Original Song happened and Kurt and Blaine got together ending the question of who would ultimately be Kurt’s boyfriend. And things were nice and cozy headed into season 3. You’d think the Kurt/Sam and Kurt/Karofsky ships would die out, but not really, they stuck around for a long time, and kinda morphed into something else.

See, The First Time happened. And for the first time Blaine wasn’t the perfect prince that he was in season 2 – he had more of a developed personality, and more flaws. And… some people didn’t like it. (Also added to the mix was Sebastian – and the Seblaine and Kurtbastian ships were born, but those kinda go off on their own thing and I’m not really going to bring them up much here.) Anyway, what really got fandom split was Dance With Somebody.

You had two sides of an argument, people who saw Kurt’s POV and people who saw Blaine’s POV – and guess what happened. The two sides began to fight with each other over who was “right” in the argument. (My god…) And thus started what fandom started referring to as The Better Boyfriend Olympics.

See - for reasons I don’t fully understand - instead of seeing that each of the boys have a fault and each were wrong in the episode, each side wanted to say that their side, and their POV was the correct way – that one boyfriend was more oppressed and the other was not as good a partner.

On the Kurt side, though, you had a lot of the old Kurt fans and ships who didn’t like Blaine (and/or didn’t want Blaine as his partner) so they vehemently decided that unless Blaine was the perfect boyfriend again, he didn’t deserve to be with Kurt. Meanwhile, you had the Blaine fans, many of them Darren fans who wanted Blaine to have more depth to him than just being Kurt’s boyfriend, and not being Kurt fans first (or originally) they were going to push back at the Kurt fans who were lashing out at Blaine.

Compounding this was the fact that during season 3, there were so many cast members and characters that unless you were Finchel, you were begging for scraps and your featured episode to come along. Meanwhile - Kurt got a ton of screen time, but didn’t sing much, while Blaine sang a lot more, but didn’t get much story. The Kurt fans resented that Blaine was always singing. The Blaine fans were annoyed that the Kurt fans resented it, and tried to remind the Kurt fans that Blaine barely got any development.

Either way, a war had begun. And then The Break Up happened.

Now Kurt fans had a specific reason to point at – Blaine being a terrible boyfriend. He cheated. He’s terrible. The end.

The fandom was not firmly split into sides - you were either a Kurt fan - a lot of them who HATED Blaine - partly because he was getting more attention at the time, partly cause he did sing more, partly because they were made up of Kurt ships that didn’t work out, and partly cause they saw so much of themselves in Kurt that they projected onto him their own feelings, and loving Blaine was not a part of that projection. Or you were a Blaine fan - who spent a lot of time defending Blaine to the point of exhaustion, and became so resentful of Kurt that they wished Blaine could be with anyone else because Kurt (fans) didn’t understand Blaine and should just stop trying.

Weren’t there any Klainers you ask? Ha, well…. Klainers, people actually liked Kurt AND Blaine were stereotyped into two categories. Category A) the really really loud fanbase (usually on Twitter) that harassed the creators, RM, Chris, Darren, various crew about Klaine every second that they got – to the point that it started to feel embarrassing (that’s probably my own projection). Category B) People who thought (think) that Chris and Darren were (are) in a secret relationship. (Spoiler alert they aren’t, never have been, and never will be.) The two of these categories overlapped A LOT, and many of the fans of one boy or the other just disassociated completely.

You could still be a fan of the Klaine relationship, but you had a preference to which boy you were actually a fan of – you couldn’t like both, or else you were a Klainer, and that was not cool. (I spent a long time NOT identifying as anything, and trying to make sure everything I did and said was equal – a) cause I was new to fandom and b) cause I hated that either one or the other of these characters were villainized so frequently.)

Anyway - Season 4 continued. Adam showed up, and Kurt fans got all excited, but the problem was that a lot of them saw him as the perfect boyfriend again – not a real character but a prop that could make Kurt look good and be everything for Kurt. Look, I liked Adam, I did, but he was underdeveloped, and this weird idea that your boyfriend needs to be perfect in order to be a functioning relationship is just unrealistic. I digress. Meanwhile, we didn’t get a lot of Kurt POV, which didn’t help things, and meant even more projection over his character.

Meanwhile, the Blaine fans had formed their own community, which became viciously defensive of him. I think the whole fandom was toxic during this time for a lot of reasons, and I really wanted to quit it. Many people did – the show wasn’t being fun anymore.

Season 5 came along, the boys got back together, tempers simmered, but the whole idea of the Better Boyfriend Olympics came back every time a conflict happened. Arguments about who was the better boyfriend ensued, gatekeeping as to why their pick was best and why your opinion sucked still ran through the fandom. Not helping was the fact that Cory had died, and the creators, actors, and crew – as well as media – was tired of Glee.

The one nice thing, though was that a lot of the old crowd had moved on by then, and there was an influx of newer people coming in during season 5 (and season 6) – they weren’t here for the season 3 droughts and season 4 wars, and brought in a newer and fresher perspective.

But still - we had the end of season 5 and the summer of spoilers and season 6 to get through. At this point, the Kurt and Blaine camps had moved to their parts of the internet and really not speaking much to each other if they could help it. When an argument happened on the show, the same kind of Better Boyfriend Olympics came up again – one boyfriend was worse than the other, and unless they changed xyz they were not good enough for the other. But at this point, it was incredibly tiring. I know that I was just ready for the show to be done with.

I should say, as an aside, not helping things were the rise of some rather vocal BNF-ish fans, who dug their heels in about their own opinions. The refusal to even acknowledge that one side or the other might be right, or have valid points was not helping anything. A lot of people on both sides refused to even listen to the points on the other side – and instead of being frustrated at the show, the creators, or whatever, they took it against each other, which wasn’t fun to watch either.

Season 6 happened - Blainofsky happened, and that killed enthusiasm for the season on both sides, most people just kind of wanted it to be over. And then the ending came quickly, and I think a lot of people who were just plain unhappy about everything left for good.

The Better Boyfriend Olympics, or this weird competition that always pitted the boys and their fandoms against each other in the name of one being better than the other, leveled off after this. I won’t give myself /that/ much credit - but one reason I created @todaydreambelievers was to give fans of both Kurt and Blaine a safe place where we could enjoy and discuss both boys without the BBO rearing its head. And you know what – it did mend a few hearts.

For the most part, it’s been pretty quiet since. Fandom is quieter, but I think the people who have come into it after the show has ended are a lot less judgmental and argumentative. (I suppose it helps if you know how the story is going to end.) And the cool thing, for me, is finding a group of people who enjoy Kurt and Blaine equally (or respectfully) – and reclaiming the name Klainer as a good thing.

I’ll end by saying this – it’s been relatively peaceful, even with the influx of new people throughout the years, but I have been seeing shades of BBO pop up again. Look, you don’t have to like Klaine to be a fan of one or the other of them. But there are a lot of terrible things going on in the world, a lot of things to be angry and get indignant about. How a fictional couple was written ten years ago is not one of them. Be respectful of people, and know that maybe the side you understand better isn’t the only side worth listening to. ;)

So, I suppose that's part 1 of this full picture. Onto Part 2.

Here's the thing -- I've stayed, mostly, in my little tumblr buble over the past five years -- blissfully unaware that I suppose things were going on around me. Except... they really weren't. Until the pandemic happened, and Glee went to Netflix internationally, and a whole bunch of young kids grew up and started watching the show.

By the time I ended TDB in 2019, there weren't many of us left. I knew there was our small, dedicated group of fans. The tinhatters (the group who thought Chris and Darren were in some kind of relationship. spoiler alert -- they're not). And I know the Kurtbastian fans have been kicking around for a while. But no one was around in huge numbers.

And then boom - pandemic, and I'm shocked (not in a bad way) that this show has already seen a resurgence. The weirdest part, for me, is the fact that not only is history repeating itself -- seriously, people are bringing up old conflicts that have been dead for ages, and old shipping wars I never thought I'd see again -- but I think this new group's relationship with the show is much different.

I think that Kurt is a character whom a lot of people can still identify with. And because he's on his own in the first season, it's still easy to project yourself onto him. And then shipping goes from there. Blaine went from being the exciting option, omg are they really gonna do Klaine?? to -- hey Klaine is the boring canon choice, we can choose who we want for Kurt.

Layer over that years of Blaine hate still circling the interwebs. The echo chamber that Twitter and Tiktok create. And the fact that neither Chris or Darren seem to have the army of fans they once did (well -- Darren does, but they don't really watch Glee anymore). And you get this varied landscape of shipping.

No, some days it doesn't feel that different from the BBO days. The fact that I still get asks about Blaine and TFT car scene or Tested makes me feel like I'm back in 2013. Other times I'm perplexed by resurgences -- such as Kurtbasitan and Kurt/Sam. (Please don't bring back Kurtofsky guys)

But there's a saying -- Same Shit, Different Day.

I think there is an entirely different group of people than the original people watching, and their reasoning for shipping whatever is much different. But they've certainly come to a lot of the same conclusions that brought about the shipping wars in the early days.

At the end of the day - I think Kurt will always been a fandom mattress. But ship what you like and be nice to everyone else. There's enough hate in the world -- no need to dump on people's escapism.

hi, i read your rant about kurtbastian and “lol klaine” people who ship it, and i am one of these people so i’d like to explain my pov. (this is too long lmao sorry”

first of all, my most surface level reason. i don’t think klaine has as much chemistry as kurtbastian. i’m a big fan of the enemies to lovers trope, i find grant and chris both attractive and according to my personal taste, kurtbastian fanfiction is more interesting.

second of all, blaine isn’t an innocent cinnamon roll who can’t do wrong. i don’t wanna get into all his faults, but to give the most obvious example:

the scandals parking lot scene. that isn’t cute or loving. that’s assault. even if it wasn’t, his motive of wanting to have sex that night was to be a better actor in west side story. rachel gets shit for doing the same thing, except she actually confessed. blaine never did, also being drunk is never an excuse. (on that note, kurt needed that role, blaine didn’t, yet he auditioned with a tony song)

another ones being cheating (obviously), giving kurt shit for texting when he did the same with sebastian (and knowing sebastian, those text were a lot less family friendly than chandlers), talking to burt about kurt needing sex-ed (?????), the very public proposal (c’mon now, some privacy), trying to get kurt to gain weight bc he felt insecure (yes, mental illness, not his fault he’s insecure but that doesn’t make him completely innocent), the gas pains incident (unstan), and honestly a lot more

in my opinion, blaine was never out of character in any of those things. he needs professional help. he said it himself, he sees kurt as a competition and a delicate little flower to take care of. (i guess they got therapy but i erased s6 from memory so no comment)

on the other hand, yes we prefer mostly fanon sebastian, mainly because he didn’t have a lot of screen time but i, and pretty much every kurtbastian shipper, think his character was interesting and worth exploring. he got snippets of redemption and honestly, fic writers do such a good job of making him in character but still not as awful. definitely not racist, none of us like that. (also me not liking blaine definitely has nothing to do with his race, i didn’t even know darren wasn’t white for a long time)

lastly, do you think that the version of klaine you all know and love is exactly canon compliant? is writing him as a “bad boy” or a total selfless sweetheart not fanon? isnt that what fanfics are all about? i don’t mind people shipping klaine, you do you. but that is not a perfect relationship and blaine isn’t a perfect man.

tbh i don’t really know how to respond bc i am obviously a klaine shipper and i respect your right to ship kurtbastian and say what you want about klaine, just preferably not directly in my inbox next time if you could (so i can have it hidden behind the necessary tags that i have filtered for a reason lol) :)

i know he’s not completely innocent, no one on this show hasn’t done questionable shit. other people have definitely put into words, better than i could, their defense for blaine and his actions that you’ve laid out here

and honestly i’m not sure if i should respond to what you’re saying. i’m absolutely going to defend blaine, i see the chemistry between klaine, i wholly believe he’s ultimately a good person, etc - but you and other people who don’t like him probably aren’t gonna change your views, just like i’m not gonna change mine, which is fine.

at the end of the day... this is my blog and i’m gonna continue to love blaine and ship klaine, and you can hate him and ship kurtbastian. i’m not gonna pretend to understand or like it... but yeah :P

Check out all their fics because they are so good. I never miss reading a single one.

How many works do you have on AO3?

I have published 7 on AO3, one of which is a collection of drabbles for the Summer Event that I still need to complete. The others are chapter fics, and are finished. I got one more chapter fic called 'Brothers' which was my first klaine fic that should still be moved to AO3 from FF.net, but I'm a little scared of rereading that, and it also feels a little weird posting a fic from 2012 in 2021 (though I did see the other day you can adjust the publishing date, so maybe I'll get to it still).

How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

I've only ever written for Glee (I think...) - sometimes I think of branching out but there's just never any cast or pairing that fuels me enough to write. Or maybe I'm just conservative :D. So only Glee, and mostly Klaine and Kurtbastian.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Considering I only have 7, this is basically everything, but there you go :D

California Boys This is a surfer!Sebastian story I just finished, and I... never realised it was actually my most popular story until looking it up just now. It's mostly just a fun happy-go-lucky story with some angst and pining because that's good for you!

Dancing in Moonlight Always funny if a sequel has more kudos than the first part in the series, but there you go! This is another Kurtbastian story, with an HIV+ Sebastian, trying to navigate their relationship as a sero+/sero- couple, when Sebastian's past comes back to haunt them. I wrote it for a Big Bang, and I rushed the epilogue because of the deadline, and I got A LOT of comments on it, not all good. And while I know I had a lot of fun writing it, and I worked very hard on all the parallels, I still have very mixed feelings about this fic.

The Danger inside of Me Another sequel that has more kudos than the first installment! This is a Klaine fic (the only one in the list, I realize now), with HIV+!Blaine. I know, it was a thing, I didn't intend for it to happen but there you go. As with DIM, it's a learning-to-navigate-the-relationship-with-HIV kind of fic.

Dream About Us Predecessor to DIM! Designer!Kurt and model!Sebastian meet and sparks fly. However, Sebastian has a secret... It's a 20k fic and I wrote this in a week or so - which is absolutely insane for me because I'm a very slow writer usually. I wasn't very productive at work that week, I have to admit...

I'll see you around, my love This is a companion piece to DIM, that I wrote to sort of address, in-universe, some of the comments I got on the epilogue.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I used to, and I used to love it - and I do try to reply to new comments on new fic. But I'm an anxious person, and after the mixed feedback on DIM I have gotten very weary of negative comments, so for a long while I didn't, simply because I was too scared to even read them. And now I feel weird replying to new comments, when I haven't replied to the old comments, because what if the old commenters come back and see I replied on a new comment, but not on their old one?

But I spent half an hour today going through the comments on CB and replying to all of them, even the old ones, and it made me happy, so maybe I'll get inspired :)

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

My endings are happy. My fics can get angsty always contain angst to some extent (esp. the Danger!verse ones), but my endings shall be happy!

Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

No crossovers as of yet, no.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Well, as I said, the DIM epilogue has received mixed reviews, and I was very much not prepared for that. But other than that I've mostly gotten just very lovely and encouraging comments!

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I've written multiple m/m scenes. I don't like it too much, I tend to opt for a fade-to-black. But for TDIOM for example (with HIV+!Blaine), their having sex was just too important - it was a huge step so it had to be there and it had to be explicit. Other times inspiration strikes and I let it happen - but always in context of a longer fic, I'll never write PWP, it's just not my thing.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I... don't think so?

Have you ever had a fic translated?

If I have, they didn't tell me. I got fanart a few times though!!!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, I don't think that would work - I'm a little too headstrong about what I want and how. I already drive my beta crazy with how hard it is for me to listen to her, let alone an actual co-writer :D.

What’s your all time favourite ship?

Klaine has always been my OTP, though unfortunately it's lost a bit of its appeal over the years. But dynamic-wise, I think Kurtbastian is probably a little closer to my heart.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

The only things I currently have unfinished are two advent challenges and this year's summer challenge... I'd like to finish them, but it's sort of weird? Like the moment has passed? But who knows, CB also took me seven years so there :)

What are your writing strengths?

I don't know. I asked my beta, she also doesn't know. :D (we're a little useless like that) I got a compliment today about my characterization, but I'm not sure - I like to think I'm good at dialogues, though?

What are your writing weaknesses?

I’m slow. Gods, I'm SO slow. And because it takes so much effort to get the words out, I'm always very reluctant to throw out stuff I wrote before, and I might try to change an entire outline just to be able to fit in that one scene that doesn't make sense anymore for whatever reason, but also it's a good scene so I want it in there!

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

It can add flavor to your writing, but like in cooking, you shouldn't overuse your spices. There's definitely ways to make it work - even if sometimes it fails hard. I would definitely recommend working with someone who is at least B1 in the language though :D

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Glee! (though technically it was for Dalton, itself a Glee fanfic, so I don't know how that works)

What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

That's a very hard question, and not just because most of my fic was written 7+ years ago, and I haven't reread them since :D. I loved writing Dream About Us because I was on such a high. I'm usually so slow writing but that fic came POURING out. Dancing In Moonlight was a very mathematical fic, almost, because it switches back and forth between present day and past day between chapters, with each chapter starting with the last sentence of the previous chapters - it required a lot of puzzling to get the parallels just right and I'm very proud of it. Plus I wrote an OC that was very well received. And then for the Danger!verse I got a lot of help from my friend who was an HIV-nurse at the time - but I first had to explain what fanfic is and why I needed all those details and that was a trip and a half :D.

So yeah. All of them :D

i have stared at this message off and on during the day and listen. listen. you can’t come into my house and have me choose between my son and son or my son and son. this is going to be a long rant, so bear with me.

drarry is literally… one of my first big ships. wolfstar is probably the first (fun fact: when i started reading english fanfics wolfstar was the first one and remus sucked sirius off at mcgonagall’s detention LMAO i was like 12 or 13 back then fml). drarry is…,, my life? it’s the air i breathe?? it’s the one thing that kept me up at night, so many nights, and that i literally!!! can’t!!!! get over!!!!

evak is a baby. evak is… honest. it’s raw. it’s realistic and so incredibly relatable bc of that. it’s a healthy couple, canonically. it was such a cathartic experience to follow the season and watch isak grow, watch even and isak find each other. it’s moving that isak, at 17, realises and acknowledges that maybe it won’t last, what they have. but he acknowledges it in such a mature way, and knows that whatever may come, it doesn’t matter because he is true to himself and that is… honestly??? i see so much in myself in both of them. this is so recent, and i can still consider them as my otp

i literally cannot ever decide my otp. i have basically three: drarry, kurtbastian and evak. and it’s mostly headcanons and the way i relate to them, the way they have been there for me, that i consider them my otps. before skam? it was just drarry and kurtbastian, even though i probably won’t ever touch glee with a stick ever again. drarry and kurtbastian is built up on headcanons, emotions, nostalgia and the way i made them mine, if that makes sense. evak is baby otp that ripped my heart open and tore its way into my soul to grow there. evilde is literally also considered an otp, but it’s so small yet. it’s there, it’s growing and i love it. i can’t wait to see more of them and for them to finally be endgame.

Relatedly, you might be interested in the time I assigned each album to a Glee character, or I picked a FOB album and assigned every Glee character to one of its songs, or my thoughts on Puck as a FOB fan.

I feel like I should do this without using the songs I've already giffed lol, that feels like cheating. But since it's on topic, I do definitely see Kurtbastian as Fourth of July and Klaine as Disloyal Order.

But let's suppose I can't use those, just for funsies. I'm gonna do 4 ships but if you have questions about a specific ship not included lmk! Kurtbastian: Of All The Gin Joints In All The World

This is from Sebastian's perspective. And I'm obsessed. Sebastian talking about how Kurt doesn't know the real him, and if he did then he wouldn't want him. They ARE making out (maybe not inside crashed cars, but whatever)!! He never really cared about another person, he just wanted to live his life, but now there's KURT and that's all he dreams about now. Sebastian is definitely bad at talking about his feelings but he can definitely show Kurt how he feels about him ayyyy. He will NEVER be the same, not after Kurt. And Kurt is kind of untouchable - not in a literal sense obviously, but he's so strong, all of the things about Sebastian and his life that he thinks might deter Kurt, though don't, they can't touch him.

Actually, on further thought, I think FUTCT might be a Kurtbastian album... going to resist the urge to make a gifset series because I don't have time but it may happen eventually

Kelliott: The Last Of The Real Ones

You know I feel like this is very much a "everyone is fake but you're not, you're real, I was kind of alone in this big world and then I found you, other people might see you and think they need you but they don't really get you, not like me" vibe and that feels very them? Like they're both really unique and special and they see through people's bullshit. They are real ones. Even the "you were too good to be true, gold plated" I feel like is Kurt seeing Elliott for the first time and being like "ugh no this guy cannot be for real" but like he IS. And then Kurt SEES that finally and is like oh shit what was I thinking.

Klaine: Miss Missing You

This is very specifically season 6 breakup Klaine. "Sometimes before it gets better the darkness gets bigger, the person that you'd take a bullet for is behind the trigger" HELLO????? Kurt breaks Blaine's heart and Blaine is CRUSHED and they go through HELL but they had to go through those dark times to come back together and be better!!! Literally it's just them. It's them!!!

Klaine (but happy this time): Heaven's Gate

Literally this song is just talking about how much they love each other and they would give everything to each other and they will keep coming back to each other always, anything other than being together would just feel like a substitute, like a placeholder for each others' love. Anyway. Yeah.

Pizes: Favorite Record

This is very Puck just wanting Lauren, you know? "You were the song stuck in my head, every song that I've ever loved, play it again and again and again and again" which I feel like is very him just going after her and her being the only one for him even when she was making it difficult for him, you know? "And I spin for you like your favorite records used to" honestly she kinda has him whipped lmao but like not in a bad way! He'd just do anything for her. "And when you ask me, 'How I'm doing?' Like you know how much better off I am," like she knows he is a better version of himself with her, you know? And he knows. They both know. Oh hi. I just reread Dont Say You Miss Me! Ive read that one several times—no idea why i never smashed the love button. Probably because i was too gutted. 😢 (I know Ive read other things of yours, because I know ive trolled your author page looking for more. More than once.)

I love your style — your bare honesty and willingness to leave us hanging in the heartbreak.

This passage:

In the end he opts for silence, peels his eyes away from Kurt and turns back to the shelf, slowly continuing to sort through the contents of the bathroom they used to share, picking out the things belonging to him and trying not to linger on the things that don't. Eventually he hears Kurt's soft sigh, hears the footsteps as he walks back out into the open area of the loft, talks quietly to Sam for a moment, and then slips back out the front door to leave Blaine and Sam to the task at hand.

is lovely in its truth… such a completely real and relatable end to a relationship. It feels like it could be any one of us standing in that bathroom.

You definitely should be writing. If you’re anything like me, you need an idea to grab you, and if it doesn’t, it’s hard to get going. (And/or you pick apart every single damn syllable you write until you drive yourself distracted.)

First of all - honoured that you've read this and some of my other writing before!! And to have had multiple rereads is just gkdhsksks to me. Like realistically I know people reread fanfiction all the time, but I forget that that's true of my fics as well you know? So that's a very welcome and needed reminder!

And also that comment on style THANK YOU. I love angst and I love stories that leave me heartbroken so it's definitely something I try to incorporate into my own writing, and that's some of the best praise I could receive honestly. And the particular passage you pulled out is so interesting to me, like I definitely do really love it but it's so cool to see that other people appreciate the little moments like that as well, it's not big and dramatic or anything but that it still has an impact is just so lovely to hear. And here's a link to the fic in case anyone else wants to read it.

Now, for my current predicament! It's not really an ideas issue - I have ideas, I have a wip that I've been posting since summer 2021 that I would love nothing more than to finish. I'm really invested and interested in the story, and I can spend time thinking about it and what I want to happen, but just about any time I sit down to write I just can't. Not sure if you've read it (or even if you'd want to since I'm not sure your stance on wips and also on Sebastian/Kurtbastian, but it also involves Klaine and is Blaine/Klaine friendly so maybe that's a plus), it's very angsty and it has a couple of my favourite ships so it should be everything I love to write but I just can't do it.

So I guess it's "I want to write, I know what I want to write, I just can't write," lol, which is possibly the most frustrating place to be of all.

I'm not really sure what the solution is, so my plan is to try not to stress too much about it, and hopefully I'll feel inspired again before too long.

now I have to ask, top 5 glee ships? (and some honourable mentions)?

Alright, so, my top Glee ships are all ships involving Kurt. That's because he's my favourite character and I really don't give too much thought to other ships that don't involve him. There are plenty of other ships that I find cute, or don't, or whatever, but I tend to not actively ship things outside of ships that involve him, you know?

Also... this list is ordered, and the order is different from the last time I publicly stated my Kurt ship ranking.

With that out of the way, time to give my ranking!

Kurtbastian. They are my favourite ship. In a potentially surprising twist, I'm not upset they were never canon, would not have particularly wanted them to be endgame if they had been canon. But fanon Sebastian, fanon Kurtbastian, own my whole entire heart.

Kelliott. For a long time they were in third place, but I think a big part of the reason it's taken me this long to realize they're truly second is because I just don't see enough content for them. I absolutely adore Elliott, and if I were responsible for writing Glee, Kelliott would have been endgame (assuming Kurt had to end up with a character from the show, and since this is television I'm assuming that's the case). Kurtbastian is only higher because there's more drama there, it feels like a more interesting story. Kelliott is warm and safe and healthy and realistic, in my personal opinion.

Klaine. I have an interesting relationship with Klaine. I loved them when Blaine was first introduced. I had my issues with them along the way, and I don't want to get into specifics because I don't want to have to start tagging this post with both their regular tag and the anti tag, but by the end of the series I was unhappy with some things about their relationship, and ultimately that's what led me to fanfiction. I knew about it before, but I had never actually read fanfiction (and certainly never written it) until I started looking for Klaine fanfiction to fix the things from the show that I didn't like. I have read a lot of meta that has made me more understanding and accepting of the things I didn't like. I've also read a lot of meta against the ship as well, and I've seen things there that I agree with too. Ultimately, the majority of the Glee blogs I follow (and who follow me) ship Klaine, and I do too (obviously, since they're third). I still enjoy the ship, but I think a not insignificant part of that is the fandom and in particular the people I find myself surrounded by in this fandom. I also don't mind just... pretending some canon things didn't happen so that I can enjoy my ship in (relative) peace lol. Though I of course understand people who don't like them (and any other ship as well; you are entitled to your own likes and dislikes).

Puckurt. They've always ranked high for me, and it's because of how much I like Puck. I just think he's a really interesting character, he had a lot of character development, and he deserved better. I always feel... a bit weird, praising him, because I know a lot of people don't like him, for a lot of reasons (both limited to his character and because of who plays him). I do want to make it clear that I don't think anyone with a bad opinion of him for those reasons is wrong; again, it's a television show, this is fiction, we're talking about opinions, everyone is entitled to their own. And I'm certainly not trying to say that he did nothing wrong, because he certainly did some things that were (very) wrong. But, I really like his character.

Hevans/St. Hummel. I'm making 5th place a tie because honestly I enjoy both of these ships, I sill see and reblog posts for them and I absolutely see the appeal and enjoy them, but I just don't ship them as strongly, you know?

I'm new to fandom - what are the better boyfriend olympics? I've heard that phrase being used a lot to talk about Klaine but I'm not really sure what's going on.

Hi Nonny! Welcome to fandom :) Pull up a chair as I give you a history of the BBO and how it started. I actually think it’s kind of fascinating now that I’m not living through it, lol.

Okay, so let’s go back to 2010 when there wasn’t a Klaine fandom, there was a Kurt fandom. A lot of the BBO stemmed out of the Kurt’s Boyfriend Shipping wars of 2010.

Three big ships emerged

Kurt/Blaine - which. at the time, was... the biggest possibility? It’s funny cause the other two ships were just as big as the Klaine ship, and really the fighting became over who was going to be the best option for Kurt.

However, Blaine brought his own bit of baggage -- namely fans of Darren Criss (and/or Starkid fans). Unlike Chord Overstreet or Max Adler, people knew who Darren was before he was on Glee. So his own fandom joined in on the Klaine of it all. At first it was all fine -- as the shipping wars continued, it was less about Kurt vs Blaine and more about Klaine vs the other shippers. Well, that was going to change....

See, The First Time happened. And for the first time Blaine wasn’t the perfect prince that he was in season 2 -- he had more of a developed personality, and more flaws. And... some people didn’t like it. (Also added to the mix was Sebastian -- and the Seblaine and Kurtbastian ships were born, but those kinda go off on their own thing and I’m not really going to bring them up much here.) Anyway, what really got fandom split was Dance With Somebody.

You had two sides of an argument, people who saw Kurt’s POV and people who saw Blaine’s POV -- and guess what happened. The two sides began to fight with each other over who was “right” in the argument. (My god...) And thus started what fandom started referring to as The Better Boyfriend Olympics.

See - for reasons I don’t fully understand - instead of seeing that each of the boys have a fault and each were wrong in the episode, each side wanted to say that their side, and their POV was the correct way -- that one boyfriend was more oppressed and the other was not as good a partner.

Either way, a war had begun. And then The Break Up happened.

Now Kurt fans had a specific reason to point at -- Blaine being a terrible boyfriend. He cheated. He’s terrible. The end.

Weren’t there any Klainers you ask? Ha, well.... Klainers, people actually liked Kurt AND Blaine were stereotyped into two categories. Category A) the really really loud fanbase (usually on Twitter) that harassed the creators, RM, Chris, Darren, various crew about Klaine every second that they got -- to the point that it started to feel embarrassing (that’s probably my own projection). Category B) People who thought (think) that Chris and Darren were (are) in a secret relationship. (Spoiler alert they aren’t, never have been, and never will be.) The two of these categories overlapped A LOT, and many of the fans of one boy or the other just disassociated completely.

You could still be a fan of the Klaine relationship, but you had a preference to which boy you were actually a fan of -- you couldn’t like both, or else you were a Klainer, and that was not cool. (I spent a long time NOT identifying as anything, and trying to make sure everything I did and said was equal -- a) cause I was new to fandom and b) cause I hated that either one or the other of these characters were villainized so frequently.)

Anyway - Season 4 continued. Adam showed up, and Kurt fans got all excited, but the problem was that a lot of them saw him as the perfect boyfriend again -- not a real character but a prop that could make Kurt look good and be everything for Kurt. Look, I liked Adam, I did, but he was underdeveloped, and this weird idea that your boyfriend needs to be perfect in order to be a functioning relationship is just unrealistic. I digress. Meanwhile, we didn’t get a lot of Kurt POV, which didn’t help things, and meant even more projection over his character.

The one nice thing, though was that a lot of the old crowd had moved on by then, and there was an influx of newer people coming in during season 5 (and season 6) -- they weren’t here for the season 3 droughts and season 4 wars, and brought in a newer and fresher perspective.

But still - we had the end of season 5 and the summer of spoilers and season 6 to get through. At this point, the Kurt and Blaine camps had moved to their parts of the internet and really not speaking much to each other if they could help it. When an argument happened on the show, the same kind of Better Boyfriend Olympics came up again -- one boyfriend was worse than the other, and unless they changed xyz they were not good enough for the other. But at this point, it was incredibly tiring. I know that I was just ready for the show to be done with.

I should say, as an aside, not helping things were the rise of some rather vocal BNF-ish fans, who dug their heels in about their own opinions. The refusal to even acknowledge that one side or the other might be right, or have valid points was not helping anything. A lot of people on both sides refused to even listen to the points on the other side -- and instead of being frustrated at the show, the creators, or whatever, they took it against each other, which wasn’t fun to watch either.

For the most part, it’s been pretty quiet since. Fandom is quieter, but I think the people who have come into it after the show has ended are a lot less judgmental and argumentative. (I suppose it helps if you know how the story is going to end.) And the cool thing, for me, is finding a group of people who enjoy Kurt and Blaine equally (or respectfully) -- and reclaiming the name Klainer as a good thing.

I’ll end by saying this -- it’s been relatively peaceful, even with the influx of new people throughout the years, but I have been seeing shades of BBO pop up again. Look, you don’t have to like Klaine to be a fan of one or the other of them. But there are a lot of terrible things going on in the world, a lot of things to be angry and get indignant about. How a fictional couple was written ten years ago is not one of them. Be respectful of people, and know that maybe the side you understand better isn’t the only side worth listening to. ;)

My Top 10 Kurt Hummel Ships

Got talking to @unhappyending about Kurt ships and she asked me my top ten. Which then inspired me to make this post. So, for the one person who asked, and also for everyone else, here are my top 10 Kurt ships (with reasons! which nobody asked for).

1. Klaine - Kurt/Blaine

I have complicated feelings about Blaine Anderson, as some of you may have noticed (shoutout to @milkymickeyway for sending me this ask about it a while ago!). I think he’s made a lot of mistakes, and while I don’t think Kurt is perfect, I do think most of the problems in their relationship were ultimately caused by Blaine (though not intentionally). Would I have gotten back together with Blaine if I were Kurt, after everything? No. I probably wouldn’t have taken him back after the first breakup. But I’m also single, so who am I to talk I guess? In the end, they’re happy together, and I think think that Blaine has helped Kurt a lot when he needed it most. Their place at the top also definitely has a lot to do with how much I love Klaine fanfiction (it tends to fix any major issues I have with Blaine) and just the fact that they’re endgame in the show and their relationship is a Big Deal so there is so much to pick and choose from while I can sort of conveniently ignore the things I don’t like, because ultimately this is just a television show, and shipping them brings me joy so I’m going to let myself have this (yes I acknowledge that this is a limitation, no I don’t care). They clearly mean a lot to each other, and I think they try to do what’s best for each other.

2. Kurtbastian - Kurt/Sebastian

I just love Kurt’s snark and I love Sebastian’s snark and there is so much chemistry? No hate to Seblainer’s but I really don’t get how you can ship Seblaine when there’s Kurtbastian. Give me enemies to lovers, give me Sebastian slowly realizing that he actually doesn’t care that much about Blaine but only hangs around with Klaine for Kurt, give me a messy Klaine breakup and Sebastian and Kurt becoming unlikely friends despite both of them thinking it’s a bad idea and kind of being in disbeliefe that the other is tolerable, give me all of it. That’s why I’m writing this fic. Which I need to update soon really badly. But it is my most popular fic to date, by far, and I’m so glad that people love it so much because I love it too and I love Kurtbastian.

3. Kelliott - Kurt/Elliott

I love Kelliott so much. If Kurt was a real life person and not a fictional character, Kelliott would be in my top place, because Elliott is basically the only character with any sense in this entire goddamn show. He is a shining beacon of light in the disaster that is everybody else in NYC. However, neither of them are real people, and they are, in fact, fictional characters. The reason this is number 3 instead of number 1 is because I love Kelliott as friends so much, I love that they let Kurt have a gay friend who was just his friend and nothing more, no hint of anything more, just friends. I think that’s really important, and I’m glad they didn’t have a relationship canonically. But damnit they would have been great together.

4. Wert - Kurt/Wes

This is entirely based on my Wes headcanons, my own writing (I may or may not have 2 Wert WIPS, and you can find a little bit of me writing Wert content here and here), and conversations I have had with @gemsofthegalaxy (notice both Wert posts were prompted by her). In my head Wes is a huge goofy bisexual dork, and Kurt is utterly charmed by it despite acting like it’s an annoyance. They’re adorable. I am not accepting criticism at this time.

5. Puckurt - Kurt/Puck

I actually love Puck’s character. I think he’s underrated, and I think a lot of people kind of try to not think about him for reasons we are all very aware of, but... in terms of just the character, I love Puck. I’ve read a few fics of them, and... I see it. I so see it. I can just see Puck finally being sick of all the shit the jocks put Kurt through, standing up for him, becoming bros, slowly realizing that he feels something more for Kurt than he first realized he did and finally admitting it to himself and accepting himself and just AAAAAA it would be sweet and adorable and I love soft Puck.

6. Kadam - Kurt/Adam

I think Adam was good for Kurt, I liked their relationship. I don’t think they’d ever be endgame, personally, but I think it’s a good mid-game relationship, and Adam is a good dude. It’s too bad that Kurt was entirely incapable of committing to a relationship while they were together, because Adam is sweet and honestly (as much as we all know that I love Kurt) he deserved better than what Kurt gave him. I’d ship this more if Kurt was in a healthier and more emotionally available mindset.

7. Kandler - Kurt/Chandler

We don’t see much of Chandler, but he seems kind of like this bright little ball of sunshine and I think that would be good for Kurt. He seems like he’d be very supportive and encouraging, and he would never feel threatened by Kurt’s ambition or drive or talent, which I think is good because Kurt is not the kind of person who will compromise that for anyone (as we see come up as an issue in his relationship with Blaine). Not much to go by, but every fic I’ve read that includes Chandler, I’ve always liked him, so based on the limited amount we get from the show combined with that, I can get behind this ship.

8. Hevans - Kurt/Sam

Sam is a sweetheart, and I really loved how chill he was with Kurt when he was first introduced. Sam just genuinely didn’t care that Kurt was gay, just thought he was a cool dude with a good voice, and I love that for him. I haven’t put too much thought into this ship to be honest, but I think it’s a sweet idea so that’s why it’s here.

9. St. Hummel - Kurt/Jesse

This is here for vaguely similar reasons to why I like Kurtbastian. I just feel like they would have really fun banter and get on each others’ nerves all the time, but like, lovingly. And how about we let Kurt steal someone from Rachel for once?

10. Chummel - Kurt/Mike

I dunno, really I’m just running out of ships. I don’t like Furt (romantically) or Kody, I considered putting Kartie here but I don’t like Artie that much. Mike is just a chill guy, and I think he’d be good to Kurt and he’d also be able to be a voice of reason and a calm prescence when Kurt needs it, kind of like how I see Elliott. I think I like them more as friends, but I’m just not really sure who else to put here, so Chummel gets the number ten spot.

Fake fic title Game: 1) Activate My Heart 2) it's a long road 3) Soft and Simple Rain

Thank you so much!! And sorry this took a minute to answer, but last night became Very Busy lol.

1) Activate My Heart. This has gotta be Kurtbastian. I have NO sweet clue why but I'm thinking paramedic AU. Kurt became a paramedic to help people, Sebastian because his parents wanted him to go into medicine but he didn't want to go to med school so he decided to do this instead. They're both fresh out of training and they're paired together (pretty sure irl they'd pair someone new with someone experienced but we don't care about logic here). They instantly don't get along because Kurt thinks Seb doesn't care about the job enough, and Seb thinks Kurt is too self-righteous. They're working together for a while, maybe warming up to each other a little bit (still constantly bickering, but sometimes it's fond now) and they have a really emotionally difficult call to deal with. They handle the situation okay but Sebastian is really messed up about it (but won't admit it). Eventually he has a panic attack and opens up to Kurt and after that they start becoming really close and Sebastian learns how to actually talk about his feelings (because I'm a slut for Sebastian Smythe having issues dealing with his emotions in a healthy way), and they fall in love, blah blah blah the end.

2) it's a long road. I don't know why I had a really strong immediate reaction to this one, but I did. Kelliott future fic in the aftermath of a really messy Klaine divorce. Kurt and Elliott have remained friends over the years but haven't been super close because of Blaine's jealously (Blaine never outright says not to be friends, but Kurt doesn't want to upset him). Elliott helps Kurt through the divorce, which is a nightmare, and eventually he realizes that he's in love with Elliott (who has had feelings for Kurt for a long time but never said anything out of respect for Kurt's relationship even though he never really liked Blaine [which is another reason they haven't been as close]).

3) Soft and Simple Rain. Childhood friends Klaine AU (shut up don't say a word about me not writing things with kids). They're best friends from age ~7, so Blaine knows Kurt when his mother dies at 8 and is a really big support during that time even though they're both young and don't really understand what's going on. They're each the first person the other one comes out to. Maybe they kiss like once, but then agree it was a mistake because they don't want to ruin their friendship. As teenagers they both realize they're in love but don't realize the feeling is reciprocated so it's angsty for a bit. The stuff with Karofsky happens and Kurt is upset about it and says something like "it was nothing like kissing you" and Blaine is like "wait what" and then Kurt realizes what he said but decides fuck it, might as well, and tells Blaine how he feels. Blaine says he feels the same way and asks if he can kiss Kurt again, and Kurt obviously agrees. There's rain pattering on the window or something maybe. The end.

Also, I'm very happy with myself for coming up with a different idea for each of my favourite Kurt ships. Thank you for making this possible <3
