Canon handled Keith meeting Krolia wrong.

Keith wanted to meet his mother but when he does, he's disappointed. He didn't want a mother figure. He wanted to know where he came from. He lived 19(ish) years without a relationship with his mother. He doesn't need one now.

Krolia doesn't understand why Keith is upset with her but she isn't the one who had to live 8 years of her life watching her father long for a lover who wasn't coming back. Krolia gave Keith trust issues. She promised Texas that she would come back but she never did. If she'd just left, at least he could move on but she said she'd be back.

She doesn't know the pain of the woman who wanted nothing to do with you as a child suddenly expecting to be treated as if she never left. It doesn't matter if she left for a noble cause. It still hurts.

She hurt Keith and his dad. Keith has never seen his dad more emotional than when he's looking at the stars. Texas loved this woman. Keith expected more from her. He wanted to find some possible reason as to why his dad spent years longing for this woman but he was just disappointed.

Keith has always wondered if Krolia staying might've kept his dad alive. Maybe by year 8, he realized that she wasn't coming back and didn't want to raise her son anymore. Maybe if he had Krolia, he would've stayed alive for her. These thoughts haunt him.

The more she tries to act like his mother, the more upset that he gets. She isn't his mother and she never will be.

So yes, he is bitter. He is angry. He snaps at her a lot. He calls her by her first name even after her insisting that he can call her "Mom". He doesn't want his teammates to know she's his mom. He's ashamed of her. He'd rather say he has no mother because in his mind, he has no mother.

Galran Keith hcs

I like to think that as Galran's genetics get diluted, the animal they correspond with just gets smaller. Like, since Keith is only half-galra, he has behaviors similar to a bobcat while Krolia and Kolivan have big cat traits.

Like, bobcats are awesome at climbing so Keith is always on top of things he shouldn't be on top of. Also, they don't roar, they scream/yowl, and hiss. AND, unlike big cats, bobcats can purr! Keith has definitely been on a mission with the blades where he gets frustrated and just...yowls. And it makes so much sense for him to hiss when Lance starts getting on his nerves.

His galran traits freak out the paladins/alteans a bit (save for Shiro, he's seen worse) but the blades think they're adorable. Bc, imagine you're Kolivan (completely galran/big cat traits) and there's this scrawny new kid who hisses when he gets pissed.

So, I just realized something about Krolia- Is it possible she's only half Galra? I noticed that in the scenes that we see crowds of Galra, almost every single one has fully yellow eyes; very few have pupils, and the ones that do simply have small black dots for them. Krolia however, has regular humanoid pupils, and the only characters that have eyes like that are the humans and humanoid aliens (Alteans, etc), and Lotor's crew, which are all only half Galra. Also, she has legitimate hair, which like, no galra has, except for Lotor's crew as well. I understand she probably looks the way she does to make her more amiable than typical Galra and to resemble Keith more, but I think it'd be interesting if she was also only half. Also, I think she resembles Acxa a lot, and I think the headcanon of Acxa and Keith being siblings is really cute.

Okay but imagine:

Adam lives through the Galra invasion. Team Voltron is on Earth reuniting with their loved ones. Shiro obviously nervous about seeing Adam again. So is Keith (bc he views Adam like a dad/brother). When the three reunite Adam only pays attention to Keith, completely ignoring Shiro and Shiro just follows Adam around hoping to get acknowledged in some way, even if it's in a "I moved on, but it is good to know you're alive" kind of way. Keith notices this and just laughs and doesn't explain anything to Shiro (lowkey Keith is also mad Shiro left for kerberos and left him and Adam) but knows his dads/brothers have to go at their own pace.

One night when Shiro thinks that everything is fruitless that perhaps Adam forgot about him Adam acknowledges him for the first time.

Bonus:

Krolia and Adam bonding which worries Keith and Shiro and not in a "oh shit they're going to kill each other" way but in a "they're going to be troublemakers together and thank God they did not meet when they were younger but - DID THEY JUST BLOW SOMETHING UP" kinda way

Krolia also loves the petty silent treatment bc she once had to do something similar with Keith's dad.

i love the idea of keith ranting to krolia on the space whale about the team but especially about lance and his laugh and his eyes and his smile- stop laughing, mom. so when krolia gets to meet the team she’s super excited to meet the chatty, energetic, funny sharpshooter who stole her sons heart. only to meet a quiet loner who rarely smiles and spends all of his time training. she glances over at keith to see him also watching lance in concern so the two of them are super quiet and just watching the way the team interacts with lance, or the way they don’t interact with lance. them just silently wondering wtf happened
