The Multilinguals of E Class:

A list of students who are canonically or possibly fluent in more than one language. I tried not to include my opinions much, but there were some instances I felt the need to clarify why I placed a particular student on this list, and canon information didn't feel enough.

Nakamura Rio: It's well-known this girl is as fluent in English as a native speaker; hence why she's the first on this list.

Shiota Nagisa: Another obvious one, not only because English is his best subject, but also because he was able to use it during the space arc to explain his and Karma's mission, indicating his fluency.

Hazama Kirara: The graduation album reveals she majored in English and French literature. However, it also mentioned she's read books from around the world in their original language, so maybe Hazama knows more than three languages.

Ritsu: A Norwegian AI who speaks Japanese. It's not far-fetched to say she's programmed to speak pretty much every single living langauge. Who knows, maybe dead ones as well?

Akabane Karma: Like Nagisa, Karma seems fluent in English. He had no problem understanding and responding to Kevin, as well as taunting the other foriegn exchange students about how "the whole school is a battlefield" Another instance is the space arc, where he again uses English to communicate.

Takebayashi Kotarou: He spoke English during the pole-toppling contest.

Kataoka Megu: In the reaper arc, Megu asks Irina for some French lessons and later reveals she has a French manga from her.

Possible candidates:

Yada Touka and Kurahashi Hinano: As Irina's top two students, It's possible they're fluent in English and perhaps in other languages, too, especially Yada, given how she's interested in learning everything from Irina (apart from seduction as stated in the Graduation album) Plus, fluency in English, as well as other languages, is useful in the business sector.

Chiba Ryuunosuke: I wasn't gonna include him on the list until I re-read his rollbook profile which mentioned how he's a math wiz with a university-level understanding of spartial diagrams, and he has that same energy geared towards social studies and English; but I'm not sure if this means he's fluent in the language or just booksmart.

Sugino Tomohito: Also wasn't gonna add him until I re-read the rollbook. Korosensei said Sugino should improve his English if he wants to make it to the baseball league, and we do see Sugino playing in the major leagues, so who knows?

There's also my theory that everyone in E Class knows sign language. The only evidence I can give is when Irina distracted the guards at the hotel and communicated with the students through sign language. Of course, one can argue she was signing to Karasuma only, but judging from Nagisa's reaction, I'm sure everyone understood her, meaning they all know sign language.

If it's true, then everyone on this list is at least trilingual, but again, this is just a theory/headcanon.

E-14: Kotarou Takebayashi

Kotarou is still surprised that he survived 3-E. He was never one for physical activity, nor one for aggression of any kind. The task to assassinate their teacher was one he never would have even considered, end-of-the-world or not. No, he had been happy to try to focus on his studies and get his grades up and get as far away from E Class as he could. But when the time came, he found it wasn’t quite so easy to say goodbye to the old campus as he’d thought it would be. Instead, he’d found himself turning around and going back to his comrades, his friends. And now, years after their assassination succeeded, he finds himself side by side with fellow E-Class alum, Manami, working to make scientific breakthroughs that will change the face of healthcare forever. And he knows that staying was the best choice he ever made.

In Chapter 79 of AC, Kotarou Takebayashi had heard that a student had done a terrible thing: smashing Gakuho's trophies, so that student went to Class E. It was actually implied that it was Kaede Kayano who did it when she first enrolled (Chapter 130).

Korosuu Translation - Chapter One

Some notes before we begin:

This is the only piece of official Ass Class content that - to my knowledge - is not translated anywhere. It doesn’t look like anyone has any plans to, so I’ve decided to take the task upon myself. This book is kind of like the korotans, but teaches maths instead of English. It also has a Chiba and Hayami focused short story, which is what I will translate here.

I am not fluent in Japanese. I’m a mere university student who has been studying for about two years now. Whilst I feel confident enough to get the general meanings of things, I have had to use a dictionary pretty heavily with this and some word meanings and grammar parts might be incorrect. I’m only making this because I want people to be able to enjoy the book, so it’s no professional calibre translation and I please ask that you take everything with a pinch of salt. I know there are mistakes and sentences that don’t feel right, but I think you can still get the general meaning.

The tenses are weird because Matsui kind of wrote them that way, and I generally decided not to alter them. This is my first time translating prose (I’ve only done manga panels in the past), so I’m not sure if this is a common thing in Japanese books or not.

Whilst I’ve naturalised some sentences, others are a little more hard for me to reword so a prewarning that they may come across as a little stiff and awkward in parts. I’m still learning with this.

Okay now that’s out of the way, the chapter!

Chapter One - Invisible Sniper Time

During the usual E Class’ usual lunch break, Chiba Ryuunosuke, Okajima Taiga, and also Takebayashi Kotarou are gathered together, and are enjoying chatting as usual. This was the usual scenery that happened every day.

However, the usual atmosphere was a little different that day. The trigger was something that Chiba murmured.

“That’s why Chiba, you’ve tried that method over and over again, yeah? I realised that it wouldn’t be enough, so right now I’m using it in combinations with other methods.” Okajima said with a dumbfounded face, whilst holding a camera.

“I get it, that’s why I wondered if you could do it.” Chiba answered in a way that might seem blunt to people who he didn’t know. Since he covered his eyes with long bangs, he was easily misunderstood by a few people, but his close classmates knew that with the same old warmth, he was a cool and collected guy.

Takebayashi heard that, and points out whilst fixing his glasses with his index finger “if you snipe with a single shot, the sound of fire will always arrive before the bullet. Korosensei will sense the trajectory in the direction of the sound and easily avoid it. Afterall, he’s a Mach 20 monster.”

“What are you talking about?” They were interrupted by Hayami Rinka. Alongside Chiba, she’s the girl with the highest sniper results.

“Nah, Chiba was saying there isn’t a way to assassinate Korosensei with just a sniper.” When Takebayashi answered, Hayami tilted her head.

That assassination had been tried many times by Chiba and two people. There were shooting results from the two top participants. However, it all failed due to the reason Takebayashi said, and the superhuman ability of the target teacher. A simple sniper alone cannot kill him first. That should be the conclusion made between the two of them.

Chiba saw Hayami’s expression and immediately understood her thoughts, and then connected them to words. “I know it’s impossible, but it feels regrettable to do nothing like this.”

“Yeah,” Hayami nodded.

“Class, please listen.” Karasuma Tadaomi entered the classroom, and stood on the platform as he spoke to everyone on the spot. “I’ll tell you whilst he’s gone. The government has hired a new assassin.”

They weren’t surprised, because this wasn’t the first time. The government has hired professional assassins several times, but it was the usual pattern to give advance notice when there was a risk of involving the students in the E Class.

“Karasuma Sensei, what type of assassin is coming this time?” Kataoka Megu, who was chatting close by, asks.

“A slightly famous person. According to the source, they’re called the ‘Legendary Sniper’.” When Karasuma answered, Chiba and Hayami’s faces immediately perked up.

“A nickname without a twist…” Okajima forces a smile.

“Their exaggerated name means they’re not ashamed of their great skill. In everything, they seem to have succeeded in sniping many times from an impossible position.”

“Impossible position?” Takebayashi shook his head at Karasuma’s words.

“If I’m talking specifics, they would be behind the building, but still hit the target on the other side with a bullet. Of course, without shooting through the glass or anything like that. Is that an interested face?” The last word that Karasuma spoke was directed to Chiba and Hayami, not Takebayashi.

The pair nodded at the same time.

“From this standpoint, you can’t help too much, but there’s probably something you can investigate. Especially for you two and the others, it might be a reference for future assassination?”

“I don’t think there’s any reference if the sniper kills Korosensei.”

At the sound of Takebayashi’s voice, Karasuma shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t think so. He can’t be killed by a human who doesn’t even know him at all. Even if this opponent is called the Legendary Sniper. Isn’t it better for you?”

Gathering information had never been so difficult. They searched their smart phones and their own laptops for sniper related incidents in the international news, and found many such articles. Most of it was written in English, but thanks to Nakamura Rio, who was close by to Takebayashi, it didn’t take long to read.

“That’s exactly what Karasuma Sensei said… Look at this, they were shot between the bullet proof limousine door the instant it opened. The line of fire should have been from this direction.” Chiba lifts the screen of the laptop he was looking at. Right there, there was an article that said the leader of a criminal organisation was assassinated under strict vigilance.

“Is that difficult?”

When Okajima looked at the screen, Chiba nodded.

“It seemed that it they were surrounded by bodyguards when they got out of the limousine, and the building they were trying to enter was an organisational building. There is no sniping point you can use to shoot into a limousine from over there.”

“Is it possible to hide and shoot?” Additionally, Okajima leant over.

Chiba shook his head. “They were only about ten meters away from the building. No matter how well they hid, they were probably able to shoot at such a distance. But this article isn’t sure where this sniper was.”

“That’s also true. They were shot from the front of the building whilst the police force were guarding. Not only the front, but all surrounding buildings were closed, and they were being monitored from above.” Hayami was looking at a case in Europe where a top enterprise was shot.

“The headline is also ‘A Magician’s Work? The Fear of the Invisible Sniper’. If this is a tabloid paper, I won’t do it anymore,” Nakamura said, looking at his laptop over Hayami’s shoulder.

“I found a number of different articles dealing the same case, so it seems like it really happened.”

“That’s right. But doing this is refreshing, hmm.”

Hayami thinks about Nakamura’s words.

“Hey, look at this. ‘Strangely, the bullets found on the scene were spherical, reminiscent of muskets’. Could this not be a hint?” At the point where Nakamura pointed, there was an English sentence she translated, and a small photo next to it was a silver bullet like a pachinko ball placed side by side with a rifle bullet for comparison.

Chiba also leaned to look at Hayami’s smart phone, and gave a big nod.

“Yeah, it helps, Nakamura. I think this is probably a really big hint.” Chiba, who usually doesn’t express many emotions, gazed at the screen whilst speaking with an unusually warm tone.

“Hey~, what have you been doing for so long?” Kurahashi Hinano called from behind Nakamura. When they explained clearly, Kurahashi replied with a smile. “Huh, it looks interesting doesn’t it? So, did you understand anything?”

“Originally, there isn’t enough information in online articles. I think we need to do something more.” Takebayashi answered.

Chiba nodded whilst Takebayashi was speaking.

“Right?” Kurahashi’s face perked up as she looked at Takebayashi’s laptop.

“If that’s the case, why don’t we go to the article and look at them?”

“That’s a good idea, but it’s all about Europe and America… right?” After answering Nakamura, Chiba looked at his own smartphone and frowned. “This article is in English, but it looks like the scene is in Japan.”

“What happened?” Nakamura used the smartphone and clicked on the screen that appeared. “Ah, there was also an article in Japanese. It looks like they did it for the news. It’s in Shibuya, Tokyo. It looks like they wrote about a mafia boss of the international expanding yakuza.”

“It’s decided~ This weekend, let’s have a picnic at the crime scene in Shibuya!!” Kurahashi pounded her hands on the table.

That’s the end! It took me quite a while to do this, so don’t expect the next chapter right away! I’ll try my best to complete the whole book, though!

My comments under the cut

I don’t really get why Karma and Nagisa are in the illustration, when they’re literally not even mentioned lmao.

Karasuma acts like this is a regular thing? That they just get random assassins joining their class every now and then? I guess it’s OC time for those wanting to write missing episode fics!

It’s really nice to get some proper Chiba and Hayami dialogue, I hope this will be helpful to those who want to write them. I also love the dynamic of Nakamura joining in.

It seems like the students bring their own laptops to class? That’s an interesting canon addition.

And can we just have a moment to talk about Kurahashi? Literally slapping the fucking table in excitement at the prospect of having an assassination picnic? Incredible. We stan.

A Spotlight on the English Grammar Lessons Taught by Class E in Korotan A

Since many of you enjoyed seeing what kinds of lessons the students of Class E teach the reader in Korotan B, I figured I’ll post some more lessons from the other books, starting with Korotan A, of course.

Being the first English book, most of the lessons in Korotan A are very simple. In fact, most of the pages are filled with English vocabulary which are occasionally accompanied by pictures from the manga. However, some pages feature special English vocabulary lessons from a student or teacher which aligns with their interests. Each character is also given a nickname! Some of them are even stranger than the code-names Class E came up with for each other. For example:

Page 1: Kayano Kaede’s (A.K.A Trans-Breastism) lesson

Kayano teaches the reader the English names for different sweets. She also tells us the ingredients she used for her giant pudding. Ritsu helps by telling us where Korosensei got the snacks he’s eating in each picture.

Page 2: Taiga Okajima’s (A.K.A. Eroticism Saves the World) lesson

Okajima teaches the reader English words that sound kinda dirty. It’s probably obvious why most of them are on his list, but “Monday” was not so obvious to me. Apparently, it’s on the list because it sounds like 揉んで (Monde), which means “Massage me”.

Page 3: Gakushuu Asano’s (A.K.A. Hardcore Father Complex) lesson

Gakushuu teaches the reader English words fit for a king, like “zenith”, “majesty”, and “victory”. He also provides quotes from famous leaders, and his bullet points are shaped like freakin’ crowns.

Page 4: Hinano Kurahashi’s (A.K.A Zookeeper) lesson

Kurahashi teaches the reader the English names for various animals, paired with pictures from the manga. There sure are a lot of bugs in Assassination Classroom.

Page 5: Tadaomi Karasuma’s (A.K.A. Super Insensitive) lesson

Karasuma teaches the reader English words and phrases useful for assassination, like “sniping” and “concealing of evidence”.

There are also lessons featuring example sentences from some of the characters. For example:

Page 6: Karma Akabane’s (A.K.A. Sophomore Disease) lesson

Karma teaches the reader fightin’ words. Imagining him saying “You foooooooool!” is pretty funny, though.

Note: His nickname is a literal translation of “Chuunibyou”

Page 7: Irina Jelavich’s (A.K.A. Sex Symbol) lesson

Irina teaches the reader English pick-up lines. Her emphasis is on lines adult men can use on women.

Page 8: Rio Nakamura’s (A.K.A. Counter Sexual Harassment) pick-up lines

Nakamura teaches the reader more pick-up lines. Her emphasis is on lines young girls can use on boys. I guess that’s why those pick-up lines sound a lot more innocent than what I would expect from Rio ^^;

Page 9: Kotarou Takebayashi’s (He gets TWO nicknames! “Two Dimensional” and “Discipline”) lesson

Takebayashi teaches the reader English lines one can use at a maid café. This lesson is divided into three parts: The Fundamentals, The Application Stage, and The Training Stage, which gets pretty scary.

At the bottom of the page, Terasaka is yelling “You can’t say those things at a café!!” in response to the English Takebayashi uses during the Training Stage.

Page 10: Korosensei’s (A.K.A Breastism) directions

Korosensei provides English directions to some of his favorite snack places. Unfortunately, his directions aren’t very helpful if you’re not a Mach 20 flying octopus, hence Maehara, Kurahashi, and Okuda are yelling “You’re the only one who can do all that!!” at the bottom of the page.

3-E goes back to school after quarantine ends- headcanons

Sugino and Kurahashi attempt to hug everyone, Yada attempts to hug everyone except Okajima, but Okajima's so glad to see his friends again he doesn't care

Hara and Muramatsu bake treats for everyone, Hara makes cutesy personalized cookies and packaging, which makes Muramatsu feel bad before he didn't personalize his stuff. Literally no one else cares, they're just SUPER happy to have stuff to eat

Itona stays in Muramastu's home for quarantine, so he helps with the treats (he's bad at baking though). Muramatsu and Itona have pissed each other off more times than they could count, and they're basically brothers at this point

Kataoka, Takebayashi, and Isogai come back early to wipe all of the desks, the chairs, the walls- literally everything even though Korosensei thoroughly cleaned them already

Okano and Yada are so touched Korosensei bothered to take care of the flowers at school

After Chiba wears a face mask, no one can see any part of his face

Kayano's hair grew super long during quarantine, and hence her roots are no longer green. She surprised everyone when she starts wearing her hair down (this takes place after her arc)

Sugaya also grew out his hair and ties it up in a ponytail. Everyone thinks he look cool

Takebayashi, Kanzaki, Hazama, Hayami, Karma, Nagisa etc. don't talk about it but they're actually really touch starved, but because they're so starved they shy away from human contact when class resumes

During quarantine, Takebayashi's parents force him to "take advantage of the free time". He's also really worried about the state of his family's hospital. Hence he gets SUPER stressed and skinny. The class notices and helps him (Murmatasu in particular shoves food down Takebayashi's throat)

Kimura booms "SOCIAL DISTANCING" everytime someone gets too close to each other. People make fun of him by saying "who do you think you are, a cop?"

Okuda gets dizzy when she wears masks for too long

Okuda changed her glasses during quarantine, everyone says she looks cute

Sugino actually gets over Kanzaki after spending months without seeing her

Okano likes to think she has gotten over Maehara but unfortunately she hasn't

They still can't karaoke though, which upsets Terasaka (the rest of the class breathes a sigh of relief)

Korosensei is absolutely delighted to see his kids and he even starts crying (aka. he spews out mucus)

Karma and Nakamura dramatically attempt to sing an offkey version of "I Will Always Love You" when Korosensei reunites with 3-E

A few of the kids claim they're not used to waking up early and jokingly demand for a nap session. Surprisingly or not, Korosensei obliges and brings everyone futons and blankets as if they're in kindergarten

Karasuma is actually rather worried for his students' wellbeing, so when they pull a UNO reverse and ask him how he's doing, Karasuma is momentarily rendered speechless

Irina laments how she can't show off her winter fashion. During quarantine, she repeatedly asked Karasuma to let her quarantine with him (he refuses)

Kimura and Okano keep on forgetting to wear masks. It's just so easy to assume you've worn them already.

About Assassination Classroom Characters - Takebayashi Kotarou

Really, Takebayashi is almost exclusively known for being a gigantic nerd. In both the interest and the studious sense.

He comes from a family of super elite and rich doctors, and his older brothers are in medical school, so out of the other characters, he definitely seems to have some of the most resting on him.

He is genuinely smart, however with all the pressure, memorising facts didn’t seem to cut it for him, so he ended up slipping into 3E.

He’s maybe a little more reserved, too, since out of everyone he wasn’t that confident about staying- considering the whole arc about him moving back to the main campus. His friends did thankfully manage to win him over, however.

Often used as a slightly goofy comic relief kind of character.

Aside from just studying, his biggest hobby is anime culture.

Takebayashi really thinks anime girls are much better than real life ones,.

Since they both like the same kind of thing, he did try to get along with Fuwa once, but it just turned into a manga vs anime kind of argument.

He has really good decision making skills.

He’s not that physically strong, but is still surprisingly muscular for his body type.

Instead studying gunpowder has really helped him with his assassinations, that kind of approach.

Although this is more subtext, their mutual interest in science means that he and Okuda at least speak to each other regularly enough to get along. And, of course we see that they work well together - as well as later in life too!

He has a close (and somewhat disturbing) relationship with Ritsu, due to his preference of 2d girls.

He talks fairly frequently with Okajima, but can shy away from the conversation when it inevitably turns sexual and explicit. Other than that, though, the two of them are good friends.

He sees Isogai as a rival, somewhat (though not Karma, it seems), but has a lot of respect for him.

Takebayashi seems to like leader types, since he has a huge crush admiration for Asano. Maybe this has something to do with the pressures of his family, and perhaps not standing up for himself as much as he should.

Honestly I really don’t think they’d get along at all, but since Karma likes One Piece, it would be funny to see them discuss anime.

Since Takebayashi is bad at eye contact, Chiba is a good friend to have, and there’s no pressure in their conversations.

He’s serious, more easy to laugh at than laugh with, but the class really does care about him.

He bonds with Terasaka, outside of school hours, since they go to maid cafes together pretty regularly. Though Terasaka might have been the type to bully him in the past, like that the feeling is more he’s a puppet in Takebayashi’s hand.

In summary, Takebayashi is definitely more of an archetype character, than adding too much on his own. That being said, there is some quite interesting stuff about him. I think he still needs to do a bit of rounding out as a person, where he can come into his own outside of what others might think of him. Oh, and, find more real girls to get along with.
