Ren Sakakibara swap character au, this is the first version of him and I like it already! His character is a bully, like akabane, only worse. He dyed his hair when he was 13. Wears piercings, chokers. He has no respect for girls, constantly gets into fights, argues with Araki, hates Araki, thinks that seo should burn in hell for his appearance, is good friends with Asano, constantly protects him from bullies from other classes, constantly walks around with a bat, wants to smash Mayehara in the face, constantly laughs at koyama. In defense of Gakushuu's debate skills
In short: even though it would be pretty funny if he was bad at debating, Gakushuu in fact excels in that, too. I have just realized what the source of confusion is here. This messed up English translation:
Let's compare that to the original Japanese:
善 in fact refers to ethics, and that is also according to the character book Gakushuu's weakest subject.
弁 in the opposite corner, on the other hand, refers to debate (弁論). So the translation has somehow switched the places of those two.
In fact, it seems they've in general just put the words in random order in the translation, probably thinking it doesn't matter. Like, what is leadership in English is language in Japanese, skill is English, body is math...
Actually, this is what the original Japanese says:
Upper row: Japanese, English, math, science, phys. ed., technical skills, statistics
Lower row: ethics, money, friends, appearance, debate
It's overall a pretty sloppy translation, in my mind. Like for example translating 体 as body, when it's got to refer to 体育, P.E. Just like 英 refers to 英語, English, and 数 to 数学, math.
...there sure were lots of stupid mistakes in the manga translation. I wonder if they fixed this one too for the later editions, like they fixed calling Nagisa's mom "Hiromi Nagisa" and the Reaper Yanagisawa (on their freaking character info pages!)

Gakushuu was never confirmed to be blond in the manga, it all came from fanart. People assume that white hair in the manga = blond. You can even find fanart of Hayami and Kurahashi with blonde hair on the JP side, though I'm not sure if these fanarts were from before or after the OVA came out. There's also blond Itona, Maehara, and I even remember at least one fanart featuring a blond Sugaya and blonde Ritsu.
Back to Gakushuu, we do see his real hair color in chapter 122 and in a post made by Shounen Jump back in 2018:

Little Gakuyuki things 💖
It's Valentine's Day, so I'm in a Gakuyuki mood!
They prefer cheek kisses to ones on the lips.
In most of their photos together, Gakushuu has had his arm around Yukiko's waist.
He's taught her some self-defense moves, but he still feels protective towards her.
The best part about their arcade dates in Gakushuu's humble opinion is when Yukiko virtually obliterate her opponents. Watching imbeciles go from overconfidence to confused to frustrated to worried to struggling to accept defeat is satisfying and amusing.
Yukiko is the only person allowed to touch his hair.
Gakushuu loves to sing and play the guitar for Yukiko. Many times, she's attended B5 band practices just to hear his pretty voice.
Yukiko also attends most of Gakushuu's events (concerts, competitions, etc...) She's gotta hype her man up, y'know?
Gakushuu also plays the Koto, so they both play it together.
Whenever she sees he's stressed, Yukiko hugs Gakushuu in hopes it will improve his mood even slightly.
If Yukiko wants to text him, she always sends him the rose emoji as a greeting.

Moments that make me love Karasuma
Dude has a look on his face right at the start says he's gone from "I didn't want this assignment" to "Guess I'm a dad now"
