Chapters: 9/? Fandom: Voltron: Legendary Defender Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Keith/Lance (Voltron) Characters: Lance (Voltron), Keith (Voltron), Hunk (Voltron), James Griffin (Voltron), Shiro (Voltron) Additional Tags: Inspired by Top Gun, Gay Keith (Voltron), Bisexual Lance (Voltron), Angst and Hurt/Comfort, Angst with a Happy Ending, Injury, Fighter Pilots, Fan Comics, Tagging as I go, this is my first fan comic, I have no idea what I'm doing, You Have Been Warned, Keith (Voltron) is Bad at Feelings, Digital Art, Rivals to Lovers Summary:
Over on Twitter, when I got near 100 follows back in March, I asked people if they wanted a specific klance art. I got a sports au request, and my damaged brain decided to do the greatest sports scene in film: the Top Gun volleyball scene. Keith is Maverick, the hothead, hot shot fighter pilot. And Lance is his fiercest rival for Garrison Top Gun, Iceman.
I didn't intend it to be more than a one shot art, but it kinda caught on, and now, well, it's a comic. I'm posting here just to have it all in one place, updates when I can. This story is all art in comic style.

Top 10 Klance fics?
here are some of my favs atm!
Always Messing With the Big Guns by utlaginn
(chapters: 8/10 | 41,918 words | E)
Keith’s slow retreat from Team Voltron is complicated by many things: not least of which is his abrupt hookup with one Lance McClain.
(nsfw)
i want your heaven and your oceans too by mothpoem
(chapters: 1/1 | 11,610 words | T)
“Not—not that you’d be my rebound! I mean, you’d be helping me take my mind off of this guy, but to be a rebound, I’d have to have dated him first, I think, and he doesn’t even know I like him, so. You wouldn’t be a rebound. At worst, we become badass partners-in-crime with a grudging respect for each other, at best, we’re soulmates for life and this is fate trying to help us find happiness. So. Um.” Lance swallows and looks up at the Blade of Marmora soldier through his lashes. “What say you?”
They look down at their hands for a moment, fingers twisting together in deep thought. Then they’re pulling their gloves off, revealing pale, half-bruised knuckles of the human variation, and their mask is dissolving, giving way to big blue-purple eyes and an achingly familiar jet-black cowlick. “Who,” says Keith Kogane, in that low-pitched rumble that makes Lance’s stomach roil in the good way—holy fuck—“is this guy you’re trying to get over?”
hey, mom, i met a boy by mothpoem
(chapters: 1/1 | 30,303 words | T)
“Sweetheart,” says Lance, his hair longer, his shoulders broader, the slope of his nose uneven now where it didn’t used to be, “you don’t know the half of it.”
Take Me Away by Kaorusan241
(chapters: 1/1 | 9,393 words | G)
“Sorry about that! Where were we?”
“I still don’t have anything written down for you.” Lance could hear the guy’s irritation through the phone, and felt himself bristle.
“Well well, someone’s testy! Spring has sprung, lighten up buddy.”
“It’s January, you managed to call 5 minutes before the end of my 8-hour shift, and I should have been home half an hour ago. Order something.”
// Takeout AU inspired by one too many 80s films. Lance is an astronomy student with a grudge, Keith works too many hours to deal with this shit.
the way i love you by taylortot
(works: 12 | 27,001 words | M)
quiet moments in which keith and lance fall in love. and kiss a lot. post s7.
eternity (was in our lips and our eyes) by thespacenico
(chapters: 1/1 | 28,566 words | T)
Lance feels like he's on the cusp of a life-changing revelation.
"I told him not to tell you."
And this time, Keith doesn't seem to have trouble asking the unavoidable question: "Why?"
Lance looks at Keith, and everything falls into place.
A life-changing, mind-blowing, head-splitting, earth-shattering revelation.
Syrup & Honey by starlightment
(chapters: 4/5 | 54,642 words | M)
When Lance moves back home to take over his grandmother’s highly-acclaimed coffee shop, he quickly realizes there’s a bigger issue than the struggle of carrying out his family legacy. Namely, his annoyingly handsome ex-boyfriend, who also happens to own the rowdy, customer-stealing gastropub that just opened up next door. Lance is determined to taste sweet success, but with memories of his romantic past making an unfortunate comeback, it seems like there might be more than just coffee brewing between them.
Coming to Terms by gtgrandom
(chapters: 19/19 | 125,143 words | M)
Once again, there are six paladins and five lions. As the team makes their way home to Earth, Lance musters the strength to say goodbye to his friends. Klance-centric, minor Adashi/Shadam.
Or - Keith has lots of feelings and Lance wants to leave the team.
(The S7 and S8 that could have been)
Due West by europa_report
(chapters: 5/5 | 27,284 words | T)
“Why did the blue lion choose you?”
Lance’s eyebrows rose to his hairline. He was an expressive boy. He wiped the shock away quickly though, smiling easily as he took a small sip from the drink he held.
“Dunno. We had a connection, I felt it the second I stepped into that cave. You know, the one Keith-“
“I know,” Krolia said tersely. “I found it.”
-
Flashbacks to Krolia's interactions with the blue paladin, as the pair fight for survival on a barren planet, stranded on their way to Earth
deadline by jilliancares
(chapters: 31/31 | 77,578 words | E)
Lance receives a prophecy he didn't ask for — one that comes with a countdown on his wrist and the knowledge that he's going to die.
--
A 30-day-challenge written entirely using prompts!
(And in case you're not one to read tags, just know I'm not a sadist and Lance is my favorite character. In other words, you can expect a happy ending.)

Hello beautiful tumblr people! Finished page 6 of Danger Zone: Space Husbands edition!
I have this hc that Shiro is this hulking marshmallow and Adam is the sarcastic, and loving, voice of reason in both their personal and professional lives. I think my fav thing about Shiro is how he can see the best of someone even when they can't. He just looks at Keith and Lance, and sees how great they are together, even tho they don't. That's not to say that he goes about getting them to reach their potential in the optimal way lol.
Adam is Jester, and if you watched the movie, I think it's pretty clear that Viper and Jester are husbands. I'll fight you on that. Also, Jester is an amazing pilot, just like Adam.
For the bottom panel, I've been wanting to draw in that "angry" manga style ever since I saw it on the show, and I've just been waiting for the right moment. I really wanted to capture that s1 rivalry energy where they'd rather ram themselves bodily into a planet playing chicken than lose to the other lol. It took some trial and error to figure out how to get the style right. I drew them both with clean lines first, then went about dirtying it up. It's not perfect, but I really liked the effect and I'm def gonna do it again when the right scene presents itself :)
As always, all pages are collected on AO3 :)

hi idea i want to write but am too lazy to compile:
there needs to be a klance canon divergent au of lance idk, being manipulated by druid magic or possibly (and i like this idea better) post-undercover mission instructed by shiro and getting caught, trying to escape in his ship (not Blue) and it crashing and a galra leader blowing it up and Lotor (who, since i have watched one episode, is Bad To Me) finds him near-death after being begrudgingly ordered to kill him, but with n o m e m o r y of anything - he thinks his name is Tailor until Lotor comes to the conclusion by galaxy rumors that his name is Lance - and is thus coined a ~*~*~perfect right-hand man~*~*~, a perfect soldier, who has all the muscle memory of an excellent pilot and shooter but no recollection of his home or his family or his life or his friends, so nothing to hold him back from getting the job done.
And Lotor takes him under his wing to not exactly work with the galra (because he’s a prince damn it he has earned his place to take control of what he can and will not be ordered by shitty galra lieutenants) but still do Bad Things. He’s got Acxa and others and essentially overthrow governments for their team, collecting weapons and information and money and the like (but Lotor is sending most of this to Zarkon for control blah blah complications whatever)
Meanwhile the team is like, totally distraught. Nearly fallen apart. They have a funeral for Lance because they have no reason to think he’s alive. Keith, who had a fleeting moment with Lance a few days prior, who had developed feelings for him, blames Shiro for his death. Hunk’s furious with the team in general and demands they go home. Pidge is immensely sad and stops sleeping because she lost another brother figure. Shiro doesn’t blame Keith for being angry and agrees this is his fault. Keith’s being extra-“let’s throw my life on the line every mission who gives a shit anymore” until he and Shiro have a Serious Talk. Allura is reluctant but forces herself to attach to Blue, whom is also relectant (they later find out it’s cus Lance Is Alive and Blue Wants Her Paladin).
Anyway Kolivan, leader of the BOM, who Keith has been occassionally working under for more missions to kill himself in, comes to the castle of lions with news about the galra a few months after Lance’s death. He requests their help with stopping a side group of galra who don’t seem to be directly working with Zarkon but are on the map in a massive way and causing havoc and know team voltron wanna be involved. Allura is automatically in but Hunk is so fucking done he wants to go home. He wants to go to Cuba and see Mrs McClain and apologize and cry about their son. And then Kolivan pulls out a tablet that reveals a hologram of Lance.
Lance, in a bright purple uniform, a scar from his temple to his brow, hoisting a galra-styled rifle and perched on a futuristic building, aiming below, clearly unaware of his photo being taken. Alive.
And Keith snatches the tablet from Kolivan “when was this taken?”
“Three days ago.”
Anyway so Team Voltron and BOM team up immediately to get Lance but BOM’s goal is Lotor and the other galra Keith and Hunk (and Shiro, who is still very guilty) are all “we’re getting Lance and regrouping fuck this.” They end up on a planet untouched by Zarkon but in near chaos cus of Lotor’s team, and the BOM are chasing some of the galra in their ships, losing em, and team voltron are also in ships (not the lions), and Keith’s chasing Lotor but then his ship gets slammed into and it’s Lance, he just knows, so he has Shiro and Kolivan continue after Lotor while he chases Lance. He shoots out a cable that catches onto Lance’s ship and forces it to (roughly) land and he runs out of his ship to get Lance, who’s stumbling out
and Keith calls out to him and Lance shoots him.
Keith is able to dodge it enough so it grazes him but Lance quickly shoots at the cable attached to his ship to get it off and runs back in before escaping.
And in his sheer disbelief of what just happened, he hears on the coms that Lotor also escaped, and Hunk and Pidge’s ship crashed, and this was a fucking mess, and Lance looked right at him and just shot him, what the hell -
Anyway lots of heists and chasing and Keith has Pidge catch wind of Lance at an underground hover cycle race on a planet with lots of crime (Lance had ditched Lotor and his team for some air as things were getting Tense between him and Lotor, who was usually very on top of Lance in a protective, possessive way that was kinda creepy but also not necessarily Bad, unlike now where Lotor is being possessive and gross and Lance was starting to question things because Blue was trying to communicate with him through quintessence as the Castle Ship kinda hovered nearer and nearer and Allura was trying to expand it???? idk i don’t watch this show does this make sense lmao) and Keith heads off there alone and sees him in his natural habitat and it’s almost like???? he was the same person? It’s post race and he rips off his helmet, cocky and smirking at an alien that he just beat. mouthing off to him and shooting finger guns at the crowd and winking and Keith’s heart soothes because shit, it’s Lance.
And Lance is getting ready to leave - he’s collected his winnings and such and he’s pulling out and Keith drives up to him and takes his helmet off and Lance double takes. And is like “um, hello?”
And Keith has, no idea, maybe it’s the cocky smirk he saw, but he revs his engine and says: “I hear you’re pretty good at racing around here.”
Lance laughs, sudden startlement pushed aside by amusement. “I’d say I’m the best pilot they’ve seen.”
“Wanna test that theory?”
And Lance is confused because like, he shot this guy? “Do you have a death wish or something, man?”
“Maybe,” Keith smirks. “I just wanna race.”
Lance blinks once, twice, then scoffs. Turns forward, “Fine. Your funeral.”
“This’ll be fun,” Keith turns forward as well. “Lance and Keith, neck and neck, remember?”
And Lance looks at him, because no, what the fuck? No he doesn’t.
Anyway they race through the city streets. It is indeed: Lance and Keith, Neck and Neck. Lance comes to the conclusion that this Keith is immensely fucking good at racing. But so is Lance, who bypasses him on a few turns, of course until they start getting tailed by the city’s law enforcement. And Keith, who’s fucking crazy, is able to turn his bike around and force them to crash, and then pass Lance in reverse, and take the lead.
And win.
And Lance is pissed but he takes this loss and pulls out into an open field and Keith and him bicker a bit about the race and Keith criticizes him but also “but you got better with the accelerating. You just break too much on turns. You do that when you pilot, too.”
“I’m confused. So you know how I pilot, now?”
“Yeah, I know how you pilot. I know you.”
“No, you don’t,” Lance argues. “You don’t know me.”
“You’re a pilot, you’re good with a gun -”
“Everyone knows that,” Lance cuts in. “Everyone on this planet knows that. I made a name for myself here. That doesn’t mean you know anything about me—”
“I know you’re from Cuba, on Earth.” Keith argues back. “I know you have a large family. I know you love the ocean, and that you miss rain.”
Lance is quiet, then, “I don’t remember rain.”
“Maybe not. But I can help you remember it.”
And at this point they’ve gotten closer and they’re talking and Lance asks where he got the scar on his face “if you know me so well” and Keith tells him the story, breezing over their moment and tells him about Shiro, and fighting the galra, and that Lance is a paladin of -
And in comes Lotor, his ship coming in from above and landing, him and another Galra, and call out to Lance, in a calm, orderly fashion and Keith and Lance both freeze. Lotor tells Lance to meet at the randezvous point and Lance hesitates until Lotor repeats himself, and Lance sighs, looks at Keith and salutes him, and gets on his hoverbike with one last look before driving off to get to the ship he docked and fly off.
And then Lotor and Keith face off. Not fighty but more argumentative. And Lotor expresses just how much control he has over Lance, who’s so flighty lately since Voltron got involved and it’s agitating, and Lotor offers information on inside Galra war plans in exchange for Keith and his team to back off.
“And Lance?”
Lotor eyes him. “He stays.”
“Then no.”
And Keith takes out his sword because he’s honestly had it with Lotor and then he sees Lotor brought more than just one Galra, but another humanoid-alien, who comes out aiming a laser at Keith. And then bam bam Hunk appears from Yellow, who he took down to follow after Keith because fuck you, Lance is his best friend he wants him back, canon bayard loaded and trained on Lotor.
Anyway no harm comes from it and then after a battle happens with the Lions and Lance being forced to eject from the warship with a few others and join the fight and Lance is Not Feeling This (he feels super connected to Blue and Lotor is on his ass about Keith and Lance Does Not Remember fuck off). Keith sees this and has Red get close to Lance, with Shiro and everyone yelling at him, and he propells to Lance’s ship outta the jaw of Red and has Red back outta the line of fire, and somehow blah blah, gets into Lance’s ship. And Lance is like ?????? but then immediately sees that Lotor is aiming a canon at them and they’re gonna blow up and they do, until Red comes in and snatches them up. Keith is unconscious. Lance is confused. He sees Team Voltron on the vid cam and doesn’t know what’s happening. He tries to explain what Lotor’s doing and that Keith got knocked out with the blast and he’s so confused and why is the yellow guy crying, what’s going on, until Allura tries to get Lance to pilot Red, and Lance argues with her a bit while settling Keith in what looks like a seconadry pilot chair that miraculously popped up. And then Lance, like, hears this Lion-thing? Speaking to him??? And he pilots Red and Lotor escapes and they go back to the castle of Lions, get Keith into a pod, and everyone hugs Lance, who still doesn’t???? Understand????
Anyway. Long story short. He re-meets the team. Joins the fight. Pilots Blue again, who he confesses to have been hearing in some sorta abyss for the last month. Has a heart to heart with Shiro. Cries with Hunk. Re-falls for Keith. Big battle. He gets his memory back later. The end.

The Fic List
This is a Archive of Our Own fanfiction list! I know I'm really bad at describing these, but I seriously recommend all of them!
Key;
💗=My Hero academia

💜=Undertale
💗A beacon in the dark (Work) by NohaIjiachi💗
❤️This fic is an AU fic, where izuku goes blind around the time he was supposed to get his quirk. A really smooth and heart wrenching ride. Also sorta tododeku.❤️
💗A Cast for Your Heart (Work) by KTG💗
❤️The fic I am currently reading and OH MY GOD IT'S THE BEST. Katsuki almost died in the beginning of it, so you can already tell it's a wild ride. This is an AU without quirks, but with it's own amazing and interesting form of magic. kiribaku and light tododeku (barely any)❤️
💗A deadman's gun (Work) by NohaIjiachi💗
❤️ Honestly Nohaljiachi is so amazing at writing fics. This is an AU where Izuku is never chozen by all might, but is instead chosen by the hero killer, Stain. A vigilante Midoriya au. Midoriya is seriously depressed but then he finds his own way of being a hero.♥️

💗Decay (Work) by XxScarletMaidenxX💗
♥️I don't know why I like this one? It's just semi interesting to me. It's a Shigaraki x OC fic. I guess I recommend it if you like bloody unhealthy romance?♥️
💗DEKU (Work) by RicaIncheroo💗
♥️This is an amazing fic that is short and sweet. Its about a device which almost no one has, and how bakugou, in a crisis, meets Midoriya. Definitely recommend.♥️
💗Dis(associate) (Work) by BeyondTheClouds777💗
♥️A very good fic that I've cherished over a long course of years. Izuku has a quirk- he can leave his body. Imagine how it interacts with one for all?♥️
💗Erased Potential (Work) by theslytherinpaladin💗
♥️Izuku, quirkless and smart as all hell, hunts down an underground hero (Eraserhead aka aizawa) to help him be a hero without his quirk.♥️
💗I Can't Be a Magical Girl!! You, a Magical Girl, Say (Work) by RMXStudio💗
♥️Also quite Angsty. Izuku is just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and is chosen to defend the world by a mysterious voice who guides him through it all♥️
💗Izuku and Shouto's adventures in sexy land (Series) by NohaIjiachi💗
♥️Just a long series of cute or sexy tododeku one shots. Actually a very good series.♥️
💗komorebi (Work) by Calamitatum💗
♥️A fanfiction that stars my favorite character, Shinsou Hitoshi! Aka purple haired tired aizawas son mind reader! Basically, He's told that if he can trick the villains into letting him into the league, he can become a hero. And he jumps at the opportunity.♥️
💗listen here, sonny boy (Work) by mochibun💗
♥️Izuku's quirk is the ability to heal people's wounds! And of course, he has to become a hero.♥️
💗Live a Hero (Work) by BeyondTheClouds777💗
♥️Izuku Midoriya is a villain. Or at least he was, before he decided to change, and be a hero when he was nine years old. Basically Izuku loves knives and knows how to fight, and he is determined to be a hero.♥️
💙Love is a binary code (LiaBC) (Work) by SasuSoul💙
♥️I LITERALLY LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH. It's a Voltron*Detroit Become Human fic! Literally everything I've ever wanted and more, with Lance becoming a deviant sex Droid and Keith determined to keep his boyfriend safe. Literally amazing.♥️

oldasyouromens💗
♥️Izuku can see mythical creatures! This helps him become a hero! Very cute fic 11/10♥️
💗Onto Your Shoulders (Work) by n_lotely💗
♥️ Another hero killer story, but this time, Izuku was RAISED by him.♥️

♥️A tododeku fanfic in which Izuku is forced to be a villain, and todoroki is determined to get him out of it.♥️
💗quote love unquote (Work) by newamsterdam💗
♥️ Kirishima and Bakugou are fake dating to save the career of the celebrity, and Kirishima having a huge gay crush and wanting publicity for his band, is more than willing to oblige.♥️
💗Secondary Colors (Work) by NaoNazo💗
♥️A Shinsou*Midoriya fic!! I adore it. Shinsou beats the fuck out of Izuku's Bullys (in a legal way) and of course, they fall in love.♥️
💗Silencer (Work) by RebelDoll💗
♥️An erasermic story where they hire someone to use their quirk so they can have a biological child, and that child is Izuku, who happens to have a very interesting quirk.♥️
💙The Marks We Make (Work) by wittyy_name💙
♥️An absolutely adorable modern soulmate au with klance! Anything you write on your skin will show up on your soulmate's. Keith is an artist who paints all over himself to calm down. Lance is a flirt who writes one liners on his palm every morning.♥️
💙Watercast (Work) by Fishwrites💙
♥️Another Klance fanfiction! This is a fantasy au where the three races (human(pidge), avian (Keith, shiro), and merfolk(hunk, Lance) are struggling to stay balanced with this whole earth sky sea thing.♥️
💗Yesterday Upon The Stair (Work) by PitViperOfDoom💗
♥️Izuku does have a quirk; Only his mother knows about it. Izuku can see ghosts. Very angsty, an amazing amazing amazing fic! Definitely in my top five!♥️

+ One Billion Stars in this Universe (And None are Mine) by Spiralled_Fury  RATING: Mature
Summary:
Loverboy Lance; Not the fastest, or the best fighter, or the smartest, or the strongest, or the princess, the seventh wheel...
And all alone.
With only his Lion, his gun, a sword and determination, Lance finds himself blasted across the universe, in the middle of nowhere, without communication, proper food, and half an idea in Hell what to do.
Except he knows he needs to get back to the others.
Because the team might live without him, but at the very least, they need Red.
Voltron can't form without Red.
-------- HOOOooooOoOOooLY SHIT. This entire series is AMAZING. Honestly hands down one of my favorite fics EVER. Lance is the total badass that he is but also so caring and honestly I die. Plus there is a ton of #langst and I’m a sucker for it. I cannot stress this enough, go read it all, it’s worth it.
Loving Every Shape of you by KyokoUchiha  RATING: Explicit
** A moment of silence passes by before Keith opens his mouth to address him, “Are you afraid?” Canines glint between his lips as Lance watches his mouth form words. His brows crease together as he realizes the meaning behind that question. No, he’s definitely not afraid of Keith. Instead of voicing an answer, he wraps his arms around the sturdy neck to pull his head down and meet his lips in a kiss that will hopefully convey his feelings. **
–– Keith returns from a month of missions with the BOM, Lance is happy to be reunited with his boyfriend again, eager for some alone time. But Keith comes back more Galra than human.
----- Okay listen, I am a proud sinner and bottom Lance is my Achilles heel + fucking Alpha like Keith? Am I a fury? Possibly??? Just read it, you won’t regret it.
+ Watercast* by FishWrites   RATING: Mature
Summary:
Shiro has been a Galra prisoner for over a year; with his flight feathers clipped and unable to fly. Desperate to escape, he jumps overboard while being transported to the capitol on a Galran ship. Lance is a merman who saves him from drowning. Keith thinks Shiro is about to become mermaid dinner. Hunk just wants Lance to stop going to the surface all the time, dammit!
------ We all know about this fic, we all know it’s amazing, and we all know it deserves to be read and recognized. Mermaid Lance? Sign me the fuck up.
Right Here Next to You (Stay With Me Please) by Le_Tournesol    RATING: Teen and UP Audiences
Summary:
Five times Lance comes across Keith having a nightmare, and one time Keith comes to him willingly.
------- It’s art, it’s beauty, it’s fluff and angst all at the same time, I live.
+ Can't Fight This Feeling by idratherhaveyou and kissmesexybatman    RATING: Teen and UP Audiences
Summary:
Welcome to Pizza Planet, open til four A.M. Home to shitty food, an exclusively 80s jukebox, and minimum wage employees getting through life on tips and one another.
When Keith gets a job as the new delivery boy, he wonders if it might become more than just a means to an end. Meanwhile, Lance just wants to know what the hell the new guy's damage is.
------ No words for this beauty.
+ It's OK* by DeetsViBre    RATING: Explicit
Summary:
Rewriting yourself cost something, a deep pain with every edit. Lance had been trying to change for a long time.
When Keith walks in on Hunk and Lance talking late into the night, things begin to change. A bond is formed between Keith and Lance, and becomes something they hadn't expected. Can they navigate their new relationship, and keep it all a secret from their team?
Aka Lance is not Ok, has a huge crush on Keith, and suddenly gets a chance to do something about it. Oh, but wait, first he has to try and stay alive in the cold vacuum of space.
------ This fic is honestly BEAUTIFUL, and INTENSE, and everything that I am here fore. I feel the emotions that are given off of this fic. Read it. Love it. Come talk to me about it when you do.
Blood Kiss by plumeriafairy14   RATING: Mature
Summary:
Lance doesn't like the idea of his boyfriend bent over someone else's neck and he convinces his vampire Galra boyfriend that he's more than happy to help him through.
But Keith's feeding method is, well... let's just say that it's a special one only reserved for Lance.
------- Okay listen, I love werewolf Keith as much as the next person, but VAMPIRE KIETH I love it as well, I’ll take both. So this is galra keith, but with vampire tendencies. What is there more to say. Sign me up.
+ Life After Death* by taylortot   RATING: Teen and UP Audiences
Summary:
Fear clambers into his mouth and tastes bitter on his tongue. “Who are you?” It takes him a moment to register the sound of his own voice.
She stares at him. Blinks. “Lance, please, this isn’t time for one of your jokes--”
He furrows his eyebrows and struggles to sit up, to stop leaning into the cradle of her arms. “I’m not--I’m not...joking.”
*
After sacrificing himself to save Allura, Lance wakes up in a strange new world where the only thing he knows is a deep connection to a boy he doesn't remember.
------- PEEK LANGST. I LOVE IT. I LIVE FOR THIS. I’M PREETY SURE WE ALL DO. I HAVE CRIED WITH THIS FIC. UGHHH I LOVE IT.
you build your tower (but call me home)* by parchmints     RATING: Teen and UP Audiences
Summary:
In the land of Arus, the youngest Nalquodian prince—Prince Leandro—is hidden away in a little castle that overlooks the kingdom; a countermeasure to protect him from the Galran assassins that have sworn to take his life.

hm. here's some kl
hey folks now that we’ve all said fuck canon and fuck s8 i decided to compile a couple of my fav klance fics for some better vibes! i’m including some classics so that i can Stress how Good they will make you feel, and some which are ones i don’t think i’ve seen recced too often but they’re def good quality! without further ado here we go :) putting most of them under the cut for the sake of length
✫ just come to me once by laallomri
Lance’s smile widens. He leans forward, and the prickling in Keith’s chest gives way to butterflies, fluttering wildly in his stomach, and oh wow has Lance always had this many freckles, has he always had eyelashes that long, has he—
Lance pokes his cheek, right over the Galra mark. Keith blinks.
“I can’t believe you and your mom have matching face tattoos now,” he says, and it’s so fucking dumb, but it’s exactly the kind of dumb thing Keith has longed to hear, and before he knows what he’s doing he’s surging forward, almost knocking Lance back against Red’s paw, and throwing his arms around him.
In which Keith lives on a space whale, goes on a road trip, and (eventually) gets a boyfriend.
[i have no doubt that this is already a classic or at least will be considered one soon enough, but it was finished recently and i can personally vouch for the softness, sweetness, and quality of this fic and the WRITER!! it’s just such a great feel-good piece and wonderfully written. 10/10 made me cry out of pure joy]
✫ speak for the stars by speaks
All Lance has ever wanted is to prove his worth. So, maybe it’s fitting that the Black Lion picked him right when Lotor betrayed them and Shiro’s clone went rogue. Right when the team was at its lowest and closest to failing.
The desire for glory that Lance grew up with—that drove him to join the Garrison and pursue fighter class, that drove him into his one-sided rivalry with Keith, that drove him after Keith in the Sonoran Desert and into Blue’s cockpit and into space and into the war in the first place—it’s a relic of the past for him now. All he wants these days is to keep his friends alive and the Coalition afloat, and he tries his best, despite the pervasive fear that he isn’t the right person for this monumental task. Despite the growing certainty that Black picked the wrong guy.
This fear will be put to the ultimate test when the mess that ensnares the team after the clone disaster turns out to be a labyrinth more winding than any of them were prepared for. Because Lance might just be the only person equipped to lead them through this maze and into the light.
[this fic. THIS FIC. if you were rightfully disappointed by the way characters were treated, especially in the later seasons, then PLEASE read this. everyone is done so much justice and the writing is top notch. had scenes and lines that just... took my breath away. also the writer has some excellent other fics too, which if you haven’t already read then you def should!]
✫ hey, mom, i met a boy by mothpoem
“Sweetheart,” says Lance, his hair longer, his shoulders broader, the slope of his nose uneven now where it didn’t used to be, “you don’t know the half of it.”
[i wish i was kidding but just reading the description alone invokes so much emotion in me?? my throat closed up just typing this ohhh my god every time i reread this— probably three times already bc i don’t want to wear it out— i absolutely lose my shit. teary smiles, the works. i will never shut up about this fic or this author. please read it]
✫ colours and planes, laser guns and champagne by skelebro
Shiro invites Hunk and Lance to his roleplaying campaign, and it's all fun and games except for how Lance is constantly on the verge of fighting the team warrior in real life.
[okay this one is 2016 era and it’s also a lot shorter but i read it and was like woah! you know. felt good. felt organic :) simple and fun and sweet]
✫ eternity (was in our lips and eyes) by thespacenico
Lance feels like he’s on the cusp of a life-changing revelation.
“I told him not to tell you.”
And this time, Keith doesn’t seem to have trouble asking the unavoidable question: “Why?”
Lance looks at Keith, and everything falls into place.
A life-changing, mind-blowing, head-splitting, earth-shattering revelation.
[okay this fic did me in it’s just really God Damn Good. also while i’m on the topic the author is writing an INSANELY cute klancemas series featuring the whole squad and if you want those soft holiday feels i’d highly recommend that too]
✫ you are the moon that breaks the night by talking_bird
"He looks up then and stares the beast right in the eyes—right in Lance’s eyes. Because in all the terror and fleeing, Keith forgot that part, that somewhere, underneath all that fur and teeth is Lance. Lance."
The simple truth is that Keith Kogane is in love with his childhood best friend, Lance McClain. It's a simple truth he plans to keep locked away until the day he dies, but that was before Lance survived a grisly animal attack. Now, a month later, Keith is resolved to confess.
But the full moon has other plans for them...
[admittedly i haven’t read this one yet but i’ve already heard good things and the tags themselves are just... Hell Yeah... i’ll probs update this w/ my personal thoughts but i’m super excited!! EDIT: IT WAS V GOOD!!!]
✫ it’s you that’s haunting me by perfchan
Keith is a loner; his interactions with others tend toward clumsy or strained, but he has a persistent enthusiasm for the paranormal. Lance is a recent college grad; caught up in his day-to-day, he wouldn’t call himself unhappy, but suddenly feels that his life lacks direction. When Lance is introduced to Keith’s ghost hunting videos, his interest is piqued and he can’t help but want to tag along. Initially opposed, Keith soon finds himself warming to the company of the living.
A little tongue-in-cheek, a little cliché, and a little bit of a slow burn. A not-too-serious ghost hunting AU.
[okay i’m so bad w/ anything paranormal but this was SO good and cute pls read]
✫ the expiation expedition by intelligentairhead, obstinaterixatrix
Lance is well aware that miscommunications can result in horrific, preferably avoidable mishaps, which is why he tries to circumvent them whenever possible.
It just figures that the state of an entire planet's fragile political climate rests on him running straight into one.
[okokokok i don’t see this one on many lists but it SHOULD be it’s got fake dating! lesbian aliens! politics! it’s really good i have to reread it soon ALSO check out both the writers!!]

klance au month day 1: coffee shop It's like the first time when we open the door - before we got used to usual
Lance checked the schedule in the back to make sure he had the day right before glancing up at the security camera feed by the front door, mentally willing a human shape to fall in front of the sunlight beaming in through the glass doors.
“Isn’t the new guy supposed to be here?”
Without looking away from the computer screen as she opened the day and responded to corporate emails, Allura rolled her eyes. “I know you must have that schedule memorized by now, Lance, so I know you know his name is Keith. And he informed me yesterday he would be a few minutes late due to a prior responsibility.”
Lance snorted and leaned back in the rolly chair he sat in. “That sure is a fancy way to say he hit the snooze button because he just didn’t want to get up.”
This time, Allura clicked her tongue and turned a look on him. “More like, it’s none of your business and hey, don’t you have a café to open?”
He flopped back in the chair dramatically and placed his hand over his chest. “You wound me, princess.” Lance caught Allura’s knowing smile as she turned back to her computer and hummed in acknowledgment.
“But you got it.” He shot finger guns at her even though she wasn’t looking and propelled himself out of the chair to reach for one of the aprons hung up outside of the office in their back room. “So, I guess I’m training him?”
“Until Pidge gets here as a mid, then she will take over while you man the register.”
“Ah, you mean I don’t get to break in the new guy?”
Allura huffed and rubbed her fingers over her temples. “Please do not use that phrase. I don’t need the mental image and I don’t want him to think he’s going to be hazed. He’s Shiro’s younger brother and I hired him because I know my coffee shop wouldn’t chew him up and spit him out like the last one did. So please, Lance, please please please, do not run him off.”
Lance finished tying his apron and placed his hands on his hips. “Aw, you know I can’t say no to you when you call me Lonce.”
“Lance.”
“Going now!”
He dutifully did as he was told by the gracious and reigning queen of their café and started brewing the medium and dark roasts, double checked the dates on the bakery goods, and started in on making the fuck ton of frappe base they’re going to need to supply the college student masses on the temperature record-setting Spring day. If there was anything Lance had down pat as an employee it was unmatched focus and killer playlists he listened to while he got down to it.
Which was why it was the sound of Allura’s clipped tone over the intercom system and not the beating fists on the double doors that gave him the heads up the new kid was here and wanted to be let in.
So sue him.
By the time he got to doors, there was a catty scowl targeted in his direction. Lance flipped the lock on the door and opened it for the guy to duck in.
“Took you long enough.”
Lance scoffed as he flipped the lock and pulled on the door to make sure it was secure. “Good morning to you too, sunshine. Allura’s in the back.”
“I know.”
He glared at Keith’s retreating back. Apparently, the award-winning personality and smile was not a shared family trait between this guy and Shiro. Looking beyond the bad haircut - or lack thereof - and frown lines, he couldn’t pick up on any family resemblance between the two brothers.
Allegedly.
He turned up the volume on his phone and went back to scrubbing the dishes. Brother-In-Law apparent or not, Allura would nip his bad attitude in the bud before the doors opened for the day. So at least that would be a decent consolation prize for dealing with the grizzly bridge troll that was Keith’s morning manner.
New Guy came out a few minutes later with a name tag and in one of the pressed aprons with the coffee shop's name in looping letters across the breast as he worked to tie his hair back as he approached Lance. “Do guys have any specials today?”
Lance washed the stem to the steamer on the espresso machine and rolled his eyes. “Yeah, survive and no crying into the chai.”
“Oookay?”
“So what do you know?”
“Aboout?”
When silence met him Lance turned back to Keith and frowned. “About coffee? How to make drinks?”
“Oh, I think I got it. I worked at the cafe in Lowertown, can’t be that hard.”
“Didn’t you guys specialize in boba tea?”
“We also had coffee.” Keith crossed his arms and tapped his foot anxiously. “Did I do something to piss you off? Because you’re acting kind of...”
“Kind of what?”
“Short. If it’s about being late, look I’m sorry. It’s not gonna happen again. Not that it’s any of your business or you’re the boss or anything.”
“If you’re looking to improve your shitty first impression with the café lead, you’re not doing a great job, dude.”
“We don’t even know each other.”
Lance turned the music off on his phone and unmuted the cafe playlist on the small radio beneath the counter. He brushed past Keith and the swinging doors of the kitchen to open the front doors for the day as Ellie Goulding’s soft voice filled the quiet.
Maybe he was being a little unreasonable to the outside eye, but Lance considered himself a pretty good judge of character. And there was definitely something off about this Keith guy’s energy that didn’t vibe with him. Like he didn’t have to practically spit on Lance when he opened the door for him. Yeah, it’s frustrating to not have a coworker hear you knocking on the door for an extended period of time, but he could have just said hey and moved on.
“Took you long enough.”
Geez, he was probably one of those types that thought he had it all in spades because he was related to the boss.
Well, not on Lance McClain’s watch.
By the time Pidge came in, the café had seen a steady flow of its regulars and Lance did a fantastic job of introducing each one of them to the new kid without a slip of sarcasm or irritation - he would like to thank the academy.
He even went so far as to warn Keith about which ones could be overly chatty and unintentionally keep him tied up in conversation if he wasn’t careful and any particulars they had with their drinks. From that, he learned that Keith’s whole thing seemed positive or negative twists on dismissive. The positive would be a slight scrunch of his eyebrows, the negative would involve some level of scrunching up his nose and furrowing his eyebrows. Scrunching and furrowing were almost the same, it was the nose thing that set them apart.
Which, okay kind of endearing, but wholly a little annoying if Lance was being honest.
Would it kill the guy to speak?
And not just the single syllable cryptic song and dance routine that was borderline robotic.
What would it take to get a full sentence out of this guy?
Pidge slid into her spot in the kitchen and took over training, showing Keith where stuff was, the trick to get the freezer open, etc. and it was like a switch. Lance could hear clear up to the register Keith’s laughter and his voice dipping and raising and monotoning in complete sentences. So again -
What the fuck?
What had he done to get the cold shoulder?
If anyone should be serving ice, it was Lance. He was the one that caught Keith’s attitude for no good reason.
Whatever.
With any luck, he’d be there for a month before bailing and they could go back to the previous harmony they once enjoyed.
Shift no. 8 with Keith Kogane.
He rarely left the back if he didn’t need to clean a table or refill the condiment stations, so Lance’s focus immediately snapped from the cup in his hand - halfway through writing a customer’s name on the sleeve - when Keith swept through the swinging doors and made a beeline for the table an older woman sat flipping through a magazine. There was a bowl in his hands and Lance knew for a fact that the woman hadn’t ordered any food, he would know since he was the guy that rang in her order.
A throat cleared and Lance was yanked back to the customer still standing in front of him with their eyebrows raised in question.
“Sorry, spaced out there for a second.” He used his best script on the cup and asked if they wanted whip cream on it (free of charge since he was totally doing his best to bribe them with it).
Lance moved to the grinder and started cranking out the espresso beans to put into the machine while Keith was still talking with the one customer. Because of the grinder doing its thing and buzz from the cooler and music, he couldn’t hear their conversation. It was a lot of guessing on his end as the woman glanced up from her magazine as Keith asked her something, he could see the tips of Keith’s ears pink from where his hair was pulled back. Keith gestured to the mysterious bowl in his hands, to the woman, down to the service dog at her feet, topped off with the tensest shoulder shrug Lance had ever seen.
And that was saying something.
Keith was a pretty tense person as a default setting.
Lance transferred the scoop of espresso to the machine and placed the cup under it before punching the buttons and smoothly sliding to another end of the kitchen to get a better view of whatever Keith was doing.
The woman smiled and Lance watched as what had to be at least 20 years of tension leave Keith in a whoosh as his shoulders lifted and he smiled.
Honest to god smiled.
Like second grader on picture day and actually enjoying it for once kind of smile. Exactly the kind Lance was weak for.
He watched Keith set the bowl down in front of the dog and quietly excused himself before he left the table and came back around into the kitchen.
When he burst through the door his eyes met Lance’s and the tension was back. He scrunched his brows and looked off at a random corner of the ceiling, puffing a breath out to ruffle his bangs.
“It’s hot out today and I asked the owner if it was okay to give the dog some water. I want them to know I think they’re doing a good job.”
Lance felt his mouth work around forming words, but nothing was coming out. He blinked as he watched Keith take the cup of espresso out from the machine and pick up where Lance had left off.
Shift no. 34 with Keith Kogane.
“You know, if you’re going to offer to open, the least you could do is actually bother to do it right.” Lance agitatedly tied his apron behind his waist and grabbed a box of bar towels off a shelf.
“Wh- Do it right?! I did!”
“Hm, nope.”
“Are you kidding me? I did everything on the list!”
“Yeah, half-assed.”
Keith punched his numbers into the register and shoved through the kitchen doors onto the floor with enough force for one to bang against the wall. “Bullshit, Lance.”
Shift no. 14 with Keith Kogane.
“Here, try this.”
Keith glanced down at the steaming cup being pushed toward him across the counter. His eyes flitted back up to Lance’s before going back to the cup. “Why?”
“Allura lets me experiment with drinks and if it’s good, she’ll let me offer it as a weekend special - if we’re not too busy, it isn’t obscenely difficult to reproduce by any of the other workers, and we have enough ingredients for our menu items first.”
“I, uh-”
Lance scoffed and folded his arms. “Dude, it’s not poisoned, quit looking like it’s gonna burn a hole through the cup and counter like acid. Besides, if it’s bad, you get the first honor of telling me so.”
Keith reached for the drink, flashing one of the smirks Lance was still learning the ins and outs of. “Well, I do really enjoy telling you when you’re wrong.”
“Good to see I picked such a gracious first contestant. Oh wait!” Lance lunged forward and took the cup from Keith’s hands, inches from his mouth. He popped the lid off and grabbed for the shaker with cinnamon in it, topping it off with a few generous shakes before flourishing it back to Keith.
Keith rolled his eyes, the corner of his mouth tipping up as he reached back for the cup and took a hesitantly small sip of it. Lance watched in anticipation as Keith considered it, deemed it safe for consumption, and took a bigger drink. Lance grinned as he watched Keith’s eyes get a little bit bigger. He lowered the cup and stared at it for a moment.
“Fuck, I really, really like telling you when you’re wrong, but this is actually really good.”
Lance laughed and bowed. “You’re welcome.”
Shift no. 20 with Keith Kogane.
“Here.”
Lance turned the tap water off and grabbed a bar towel to dry his hands before turning to Keith and taking the cup offered out in his hands.
Keith worried his bottom lip between his teeth as Lance popped the lid off of the cold cup and sniffed at the drink. “It’s not poisoned. It’s something I threw together a few years ago at the last cafe I worked at, my boss put it on the menu, but it’s cool if you don’t like it.”
Shift no. 9 with Keith Kogane.
If Lance had to make one more frappe he was going to throw up.
Every college-age group shuffling through the door was just another nail in his coffin. It was truly shaping up to be a shift from hell as he was taken off register and placed in the kitchen for Keith to put some miles in on it. They just seemed to keep getting busier - no one else was available to come in or come in earlier while Allura was on a conference call and Lance wanted to die.
If they could suddenly get people that just all so happened to want what they had already brewed or an Americano, that would be great.
Or if he could take a break and get a change of scenery with the register, that would be good too.
Because, to be honest, if he had to overhear Keith have one more social interaction that didn’t quite land, he was going to lose it. It shouldn’t be that hard. Razzle dazzle them with a smile, ask how they are, if they want any extras on their drink, insert any offhand small talk comment, crank the smile up a bit and assure them their order will be up in a moment and that’s it.
The indifferent cool guy routine wasn’t exactly the usual coffee shop demeanor around here. Maybe it worked for the campy, pretentious gig Keith had before but Allura tended to like a more mainstream brand of atmosphere - even if they were lying through their teeth. Lance was almost 100% positive that it took Keith more energy to do whatever the hell he was doing over the polite smile and scripted dialogue every service industry tended to regurgitate on its employees.
Not that Allura was one of those bosses and they were technically an independent coffee shop, but a lot of the base principles were the same.
A break in the line finally afforded Keith and Lance to get through the orders and catch their breath. Keith politely scooted the tip jar off of the counter to rifle through it, he plucked out someone’s straw wrapper and cursed them to step in gum in the parking lot before getting to a folded piece of paper tucked inside of a dollar bill.  Lance bit the inside of his cheek as Keith opened the paper, revealing a girl’s name and phone number.
Lance grabbed the paper, inspecting it. “Y’know, Allura doesn’t like it when we flirt with the customers.”
Keith snatched the paper back, crumpling it up and throwing it into the trash can. “Except I wasn’t and I’m gay.”
Shift no. 23 with Keith Kogane.
“It’s very easy to see that somehow you and Keith got off on the wrong foot.”
“That’s putting it lightly, ‘Llura.”
Allura sighed and turned in her office chair to face Lance fully. “I don’t know why or how you two found just the right buttons to push with each other in such a short amount of time, but something has to give.”
Lance spun in his chair and picked at a loose thread in his pants. “Did Keith tell you ‘bout this? Because the adult thing would have been to say something to my face.”
“Keith didn’t say anything, Lance. Anyone could smell the tension off of the two of you in the next county. Neither of you is the least bit subtle. You’re incredibly alike, I had hoped you two would have been good together between your combined work experience and personalities I’d expected to mesh better.” Allura tucked a loose piece of hair behind her ear and looked Lance over. “Obviously, you two enjoy defying the odds. Two seconds in the door and you were ready to butt heads.”
Lance’s chair came to an abrupt halt, the wheels screeched against the floor. “If you knew about that then he did say something.”
“No, Lance.” Allura gestured up to the computer monitor with the security camera feed. “I watched you let him in that morning. I’ve known both of you now for several years and am well familiar with your body language. I should have addressed this with you two sooner, but I had hoped you would fix it yourself.”
“So, are you gonna fire us?”
Allura clicked her tongue, swatting Lance’s knee playfully. “Of course not. Consider it a soft intervention before I become officially disappointed.”
“Uggh, okay. Okay, alright, geez. You know I hate that word. We’ll work on it.”
Allura laughed, turning her chair back to her computer and booting it up. “Then don’t make me use it.
Shift no. 89 with Keith Kogane.
It was rare that he closed and from what he knew from Keith’s availability, he didn’t close either. So, it was a bit of surprise when Keith came bustling into the back room for an apron right before shift switch. Lance did a double take between the schedule sheet and Keith, raising his eyebrows because right there it was the entire time. It would be him, Keith, and two other people for the rest of the night.
The shift went a lot better than he expected, Keith was a solidly adept closer - not always a common occurrence when someone usually works the day shift.
As Lance locked the doors behind them for the night, Keith waited for him before walking out into the parking lot. It took him a minute to compute the number of cars left in the parking lot with the number of people - the other two employees were getting into their cars and pulling off by the time he reached his own car and whirled around to catch sight of Keith walking down the sidewalk.
“What is he doing?” Lance scratched his head, before dropping his hand and lifting his face up to the sky. “Oh my god, he’s going to be murdered.”
He got in his car and quickly caught up to Keith, slowly driving his car beside the sidewalk. “Dude, what are you doing?”
Keith looked over his shoulder and Lance knew before he even opened his mouth how much sass was about to be thrown his way - could hear the tone clear as a bell in his head. “Going home.”
“Duh, but like - where’s your car?”
“In the shop. I’m headed for the bus stop and, not to be rude, but I gotta be quick if I’m going to make the stop in time.” Keith readjusted the bag on his back and faced forward again.
“No, c’mon. I’m not going to let you do that.”
“Hm, but you can’t actually stop me so...”
“Listen, I’m not about to let your dead body weigh on my conscious for the rest of my life. That causes stress and stress causes premature wrinkles and I’m too beautiful to wrinkle prematurely. Get in, I’ll give you a ride.”
He saw Keith mistep, his body freezing up before shuffling forward faster. “You don’t have to do that.”
“Do you want me to call Allura? Do you know who Allura lives with?”
At that, Keith squared his shoulders and turned back to glare at Lance. “You wouldn’t.”
“I would, actually. And I have Allura on speed dial so, you better be quick.”
“Why do you have Allura on speed dial?”
“Oh look at that, my call app is open, I’m pressing the number four, and-”
Keith swore and lunged for the passenger side door, flinging it open and plopping into the seat before closing the door. Lance’s grin was so wide it was actually starting to hurt a little after a long shift of it, but the sheer look of panic on Keith’s face was more than worth it.
“Cool. What’s your address?”
“I’m not giving you my address, you’re just going to drive me to the bus stop.”
“No, I’m not.”
“Yes, you are.”
“Nope, don’t think so.”
“Lance.”
“Keith.”
“Lance.”
“Look, I can go all night, dude. If you don’t tell me your address, I’m just gonna go to my place where we can have an impromptu sleepover and you can meet my roommate Hunk and my cat and we’ll watch Netflix and you’ll be a prisoner to our hospitality and an unmatched, whole-ass breakfast with your choice of pancakes or waffles.”
They came to stop at a red light, thirty feet from the bus stop when the locks clicked into place as Keith reached for the door.
“Gotta be quicker than that, Kogane.”
Keith flopped back in the seat and watched as they passed the bus stop. “Oh, do you normally kidnap people with false pretenses?”
Lance jerked in his seat, checking his rearview mirror as he switched lanes before glancing back to Keith. “Y’know I’m not gonna like murder you or anything, right? Like we had our false starts, but I don’t hate you or anything. I don’t even dislike you. I actually enjoy working with you. And if you don’t feel comfortable telling me your address, I can drop you off at Shiro and Allura’s. It’s just - the bus stops can get sketchy this time of night and I obviously don’t know where you live, so I don’t know what parts of town you’d be passing through and if I could have kept you from getting stabbed or murdered, then I want to.”
“You do realize I can take care of myself, right? I’m an adult. I’ve had to ride the bus before. And I work out with Shiro, so I can more than hold my own against anyone that comes along.”
He felt Keith’s eyes on him, the scrutiny a little more than unnerving because he did several stupid things in rapid succession: underestimated Keith, almost admitted more than he should, and locked Keith in his car and said he wouldn’t murder him even though that’s probably exactly what murderers say.
Keith sighed, Lance saw him shaking his head in his peripheral vision. “I live off Pine Street on Avondale. It’s the apartment complex at the end of the road.”
Lance nodded and switched lanes again to turn into a parking lot and go back in the right direction of Keith’s place.
“And Lance?”
“Yeah?”
“I don’t dislike you either.”
Lance woke up on Keith’s last day at the café feeling a goopy, bittersweet sap weighing heavy and thick on his chest because he was dramatic and after two years a little worried that their workplace is what held up their communication and connection.
He can’t be blamed for that, Keith’s forgetful as hell and Lance can come off strong. He’s nothing if not self-aware.
It was going to be super weird not having Keith there to sneak his way to Lance’s phone and switch the playlist for his own or not having the comforting scent of espresso and Keith’s shampoo buzzing in his head.
The latter thing was a little creepy, but he couldn’t help it.
He had tried.
Didn’t work.
And it had been two years, and Keith was quitting because he finally got a graphic design job that would put his degree to use. He’d be making a lot better money there than a minimum wage food industry gig, so Lance should be happy for him.
“I can hear you overthinking.”
Lance scrubbed a hand through his hair and scoffed. “Well, excuse me, your majesty. Forgive me for interrupting your beauty sleep, but it’s like the end of an era. This is where we find out whether we got along just because we had the same work environment and hung out as much as we did because we got scheduled together so often.”
Keith turned over, hooking his chin over Lance’s shoulder and turning his face in to brush his nose along Lance’s neck. “The café was the start, we’ve got everywhere else to go now.”
Lance groaned and turned over in bed, dragging Keith to him in an armful of blankets. He pressed his mouth to the hollow of Keith’s throat, trying valiantly to fight and hide a smile. “Don’t get romantic on me at 7 a.m., you know how I get.”
Keith smoothed his hand over the worn cotton of Lance’s t-shirt, ducking his face into Lance’s bedhead. “Is a new era okay?”
He pulled back and studied Keith, he brushed his long bangs away from his face. Lance kissed Keith then, a quick, innocent thing turned something longer and indulging as Keith moved for a better angle and Lance swiped his tongue over the seam of Keith’s lips. Hands wound tighter and legs tangled further, the soft whisper of sheets breaking the quiet of the morning as they shifted as close as they could be.
Anything together would be good.
a/n: I work in a place that has a café and I am ~~barely~~ café trained. I’m v good at making bean water and nothing else - well, except ice water. also I realize there might be conflicting thoughts on the service dog thing, but this was based on something that happened in the cafe where I work and is probably not considered the right etiquette. so disclaimer to always be respectful of animals on the job and be aware to what the owner needs and is comfortable with. klancetober didn’t go...great or anywhere for me after like prompt 3 or 4. but I’m nothing if not foolishly...yeah, that’s it. I’m a fool. a fool that refuses to learn a lesson so here’s klance au month that literally no one requested but my other stories going nowhere so here we are lol

Another drabble. This one is....more cathartic? So lets start with a big ol’ Authors Note:
So it’s come to my attention that the way I met my ex was very /Keith/ like and as such, I’ve come to notice a few more parallels SO....
The following is pretty much how it happened. Well, sans the express mentions of Keith sleeping with Regris and Lance sleeping with Jenny. But ya know. I had to stop eventually. I also didn’t get to fit in the rune readings or the making out in the car and bs-ed a couple things to make them more Lance and Keith--
And ya know, Lance would just be a better man. Sorry not sorry.
If you’re reading this Bright Eyes: why haven’t you deleted me yet? Like you have absolutely no business still following my writing. I’d block you if I wasn’t just morbidly amused by how long you must have to scroll to get through my gay boys, kthnx.
Also, Idk, I guess Keith handled his liquor better than I did.
@meli-reads-all Look I DID IT. We can do fighting for spots later, and maybe I’ll make some ridiculous little short about the blue eyed one too cause /fuck/ my ridiculous Keith-like meet cutes/background stories.
Anywho.
Klance. College AU I guess.
Drinking and smoking (Keith is an alcoholic because I am an alcoholic. -finger guns-)
Keith gets dragged out of his house under the promise of vodka. Ends up opening the door to a boy he really should have been nicer to because wow is Lance everything he ever wanted.
3.9k words
----
The first red flag of the night should have been Jenny’s pushiness. Keith had only hung out with her one time since they’d “become friends” in middle school and now they were taking two classes a semester at the local Uni (if any) and occasionally waved at each other in the hallways.
Hell, Keith hadn’t even done that in months given the shit time he’d had at school and his absolute lack of a desire to pursue any kind of degree.
He’d taken the fall semester off and was still mentally wording the letter to Shiro in his head about how he was going to drop out when Jenny had blown up his phone.
“You’re just being a hermit aren’t you!? Get dressed! I’m coming over!”
Keith eyed the texts and rolled his eyes. He glanced down at himself in his lose Spiderman top and his boxers and shrugged. He was plenty dressed.
“I’m bringing a friend!”
God damn it.
To hang out with an annoying girl he’d technically known for years? Pj top and boxers were fine.
To hang out with said girl and a total stranger?
Fuck.
Okay.
Pants then.
She lived nearby, so he dragged himself out of bed, paused his binge watch of the day (season 8 of Criminal Minds. It had been a while since he’d gone to catch up. They already had ten seasons on Netflix. It was gonna be a nice weekend if Jenny would just leave him alone.)
But then she was there.
Shaybon or whatever her stupid name was.
Keith’s roommate Pidge was out for the day, but she’d left the living room in a bit of a state so while Jenny made herself at home and introduced her friend, Keith tidied up.
Not that he cared about a strangers opinion of his home, but because he didn’t like strangers and it was better to focus on other things while people introduced themselves. The strangers name was Regris. Tall, dark, acceptable.
He watched Keith clean and smirked a lot. Like it amused him.
Keith didn’t really care. He hadn’t planned to entertain, he hadn’t wanted to. Jenny was being a fucking pain springing this on him.
Of course, she was vaguely well meaning? During that one outing they’d been on which was only about a month ago, Jenny had told Keith all about how she’d moved in with her boyfriend only for him to dump her and disappear to go fuck his ex on the same night. Keith had offered her some solidarity in that he was also recently heartbroken.
Though, a fuck buddy who was more buddy than fuck who suddenly decided to drop you for no apparent reason, was slightly lower priority than an actual live in boyfriend; it still hurt and Keith could still vaguely sympathize.
Hell, there was a reason he was binge watching Criminal Minds and wanted to be alone.
He missed Rolo, but what was he going to do? First Rolo didn’t want to fuck anymore, then he didn’t want to be friends, go figure, shit happens.
He’d been fun. And he’d helped Keith get out of his shell for a time. And he’d been comfortable and they always seemed to be on the same page. But you know.
Shit.
Keith had started developing feelings, as it happens when you actually enjoy someone’s presence who you’re also attracted to and have decent chemistry. He’d told Rolo, but he’d tried to explain the friendship mattered more. Keith loved the feeling of being alive far more than he even remotely liked Rolo in that way. And that was what Rolo gave him just by cracking a joke and making a room full of people keel over in laughter.
Rooms full of people.
Pleasant, fun things.
No one whispering no one judging.
Everyone was weird and at their own pace.
Keith missed it all so terribly.
But now all he has was fucking Jenny.
He went into his fridge, took out two beers and sat down at the kitchen table when he’d finished cleaning. Regris eyed the beer as if one was for him but Keith simply rolled his eyes. He opened the first one and downed it, then promptly opened the second one and turned to Jenny.
“So. What are we supposed to do now? Did you come here with a plan or are you two just going to watch Criminal Minds with me?”
It was Jenny’s turn to roll her eyes and she did so with a flourish to her friend. Regris in turn glanced at his phone and shrugged, “Well my friend is having a get together. Not far.”
Keith nodded, took a gulp of his beer, “Great, you two have fun.”
“Oh come on Keith! Don’t be that way!”
Keith stared at Jenny, took another swig, and waited.
Jenny eyed the bottle and finally came up with something that actually interested Keith. She knew this because Keith had made very clear what he’d been doing to cope since the loss of his university family. He was making it very clear now, bottle in hand.
And rather than attempt to dissuade him, she enabled him, “Regris, Thace has alcohol right?”
Keith’s eyebrow arched but he said nothing. Regris laughed, “Uh, yeah? Of course?”
“Probably more beer right?” Keith grumbled, he was almost done with the second bottle now and it was pretty gross. He didn’t like beer, but he’d finished the sweeter drinks earlier and these were left overs from when he used to have friends over, people who wanted to hang out with him and Rolo anyway.
“Well. There will be beer, yeah. But Thace is more of whiskey drinker.”
Keith thought about it. Whiskey had specific side effects in him. Best to avoid around generally attractive men. He was about to open his mouth to say he’d still prefer to pass when Jenny shot up, “Vodka! Tell him there will be vodka!”
Ah yes, because Keith had been drinking when he’d told her the story and she remembered what he’d ordered.
Regris seemed a bit surprised but shrugged it off, “Yeah? Of course he has vodka.”
Keith sighed and turned his attention from Jenny to Regris, “And I’ll be allowed to drink, this vodka, right?”
He scoffed, “Once you’re in the house all the booze is fair game. Thace is cool that way.”
Keith gave himself another moment to assess, considered the fact he’d finished his last bottle and was actually quietly craving the stuff. He also considered how Jenny would never let him hear the end of it if he said no.
“…Alright. But only for the vodka.”
Jenny practically bounced out of her seat and Regris shrugged, “Cool, I’m gonna take a smoke and we’ll head out then.”
Keith watched Regris step onto the porch, cigarette and lighter in hand, and turned back to Jenny, “This your rebound or something?”
The girl looked surprised and waved her hand, “Oh no. Reg and I have been friends for years. But he did say his friend Lo was gonna be there tonight and he might be juuuust my type.”
Keith stared at her for a long moment, sure to be as openly judgmental as possible, but she took it with a proud smile, “Don’t be jealous, maybe we’ll find you a distraction too!”
“Don’t count on it.”
---
Keith was in the middle of pouring his second mixed drink when someone knocked. Jenny was in the backyard, floating around and making friends. Regris was playing pool with Thace—who was a decent enough guy even if he did keep his absolutely beautiful darling huskie locked in the kitchen.
Honestly, Keith preferred the company of the dog.
He just didn’t have it in him to socialize with these people anymore. He wanted to drink and go home and not be in his mind by he time he went to sleep.
He finished a cherry liquor before he realized someone was knocking and sadly put his cup down. He turned and popped his head outside. Thace was sitting, waiting for his turn and chatting with two girls.
“Thace, someone’s here,” Keith said bluntly.
Thace didn’t even look up, “Cool, that’s probably him now,” He said to the girls, then he spoke louder for Keith, “Go open it.”
Keith stood there, “…It’s not my house.”
“So? It’s my friend, go open it?”
Keith could hear Jenny perk up from behind the pool table, “Is it Lo?”
Regris replied to her, clarifying that Lo was still very much on the other side of town.
“Then who is it?” Jenny pressed.
Thace chuckled, “We’ll know once Keith gets the door. Go on.”
Keith still didn’t move, “…It’s not my house. Who goes around strangers houses and opens doors to total—what?!”
“Just get it, it’s probably—” Thace was speaking to the nameless girls again and Jenny chose just then to laugh loudly at Keith’s antics.
With a disgruntled puff Keith turned back into the house, picked up his discarded vodka-cherry-who-remembers-what-else and sipped at it while he made his way to the door just as the questionable someone knocked again.
Keith held the cup with his teeth and fought with the door locks for a second before, by some miracle, finally managing to turn them the right way and pulling the door loose.
“Hey—” Started the stranger.
Keith took the cup out of his mouth and gave the guy at the door a once over, cup in hand and general annoyance rumbling into his generally poor attitude, he looked the stranger dead in his decidedly pretty blue eyes and with his own half lidded in boredom said, “And who the fuck are you supposed to be?”
It was almost comical, if Keith had been paying attention to the social cues. Because the man’s eyes widened and his jaw slackened but there was still the barest hint of an amused smile on his face.
“U-Uh… Leandro?”
“Leo?”
“Lee- Leandro—”
“Alejandro?”
“N-No, my name is—”
“I don’t care.”
Keith turned around and walked straight back the way he’d come, cup back to his lips, “Everyone’s outside I guess.” He said mostly to no one, maybe somewhat to the new guy.
When he made it to the sliding glass door again he announced to the group of strangers who were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their friend, “Some.. Alex or whatever is here.”
“It’s—”
Keith heard him stumble out again but Thace had beamed instead, “Lance! Glad you could make it!”
Keith blinked at the name, considered it, and shrugged. Lance actually wasn’t a bad name. Didn’t sound anything like Alejandro though. How’d that happen.
Oh well.
He went to his corner at the far end of the yard and decided to start nursing his drink. (Though by now, this was probably a bit late)
Especially when Jenny came and joined him, still on her first drink and already bumbling, “man you really do drink don’t you?”
Keith said nothing. She put her cup down in front of him and asked if he wanted to finish it for her. She’d made it too strong. He tried it an agreed, her being a lightweight, this wasn’t going to work out.
They traded drinks.
“So Lance is pretty cute isn’t he?” Jenny started, nudging Keith in the side on his lawn chair.
He glanced across the yard where Lance had joined on the pool game, and this time Keith really looked at him.
“I guess.” Keith mumbled. He was tan, and broad shouldered, and he had a nice smile and kind eyes. He was… almost too good. “He’s the kind of hot who probably knows it and so doesn’t actually expend any effort in meeting people.”
Jenny nudged him harder, some friendly kind of reprimand, “Oh come on Keith, don’t be like that. You’re telling me you’re not into him?”
Keith glanced at him again, watched him turn to face Regris, laugh at a joke.
“I’m not saying that.”
Because he absolutely was not saying that.
But.
“But it’s not like it matters. It’s not like he’d be into me even if I was inclined to wandering into that kind of hell again. It’s cool.”
She pouted her pretty pink lips and Keith rolled his eyes for the hundredth time that night, “Jen. How about you cut to the chase. Lo’s gonna be a no show so you want to go flirt with him. Go, it’s not like I called dibs or anything.”
Her pout stretched into a smile and she clapped him on the back, “Oh, you do know me don’t you!”
Within moments she had taken up residence on a bench beside Lance as he continued to stare straight ahead, probably watching the balls roll across the felt. Keith did too anyway, from the opposite side of the table.
Keith finished her drink without realizing and noticed she’d never even taken his.
His tasted better.
He finished that one too.
At some point during the evening someone very tall came in and took Lance’s spot in the game and Jenny’s attention.
Ah, the elusive Lo, Keith thought to himself, eyeing the guy who’d come in.
Now, Lo was also attractive, but somehow had thrown off less of a…presence.
It was strange.
But then, Keith was drunk.
So what did it matter?
He caught Lance’s eye across the table, noticed how the dark blue t-shirt was just a little tight on his shoulders and made Keith want to walk over and shove his face into the mans chest.
Ridiculous.
Drunk.
Had Jenny’s cup had whiskey? That would have been a problem.
Lance pat his hand down on the empty bench space beside him and nodded to Keith. Keith blinked at him, then at his two empty cups, then at his imaginary impulse control, and decided, “…why not.”
He stood up, probably a little shakily if he was honest, and wandered over to Lance before slumping into the seat he’d been offered, “Hey.”
“Hey.”
It was quiet save for the strangers talking and the snapping of a pool stick against ceramic.
“So your friend Jenny was telling me about you,” Lance started with a little bit of a smile. Something Keith had already seen plenty of so he was aware of the restraint in the expression.
“Was she now?”
“Yeah.”
“And yet you still asked me to sit with you.”
“Oh did I do that?”
“Oh did I read that wrong?”
“No.”
Keith didn’t miss a beat, “Then own it.”
Lance grinned, a severe degree less restraint in the show of teeth, “I wanted you to sit with me.”
“Cool.”
“Cool.”
Jenny came by, particularly chipper as things seemed to be going well with Lo who was standing to the side chatting with Thace and Regris while a few of the still unnamed strangers had separated into other groups around the yard.
“Do you smoke Lance?” Jenny asked. “I know Keith doesn’t so—”
Lance made a funny croaking noise, like Jenny had just made a bad joke and he was trying to humor her, “No. No. That’s just Reg.”
Keith decided to keep the little mental fanfare from playing in his face. He’d never kissed someone who smoked cigarettes, but he didn’t like the smell and wasn’t inclined to it.
Jenny was about to say something, tapping a pen on Lance’s shoulder (godddd those shoulders) when Regris and the other two vaguely named strangers called her over.
“I didn’t mean—Oh alright, you two keep talking, I’ll leave you alone.” She smiled and ran off to the other side of the yard with the guys.
She’d dropped her pen onto Lance’s lap.
Keith eyed it and before looking up at Lance who shrugged and was about to reach for it, put it on one of the tiny tables on either side of them, when Keith’s hand shout out first.
With the pen now at his disposal, he pulled off the cap with his teeth and grabbed Lance’s arm with his free hand, “I feel like drawing.”
That awkward amused grin was back on Lance’s face and Keith had no idea how to describe how that stupid smile, when registered for what it really was, did ridiculous things to his heart.
“You like to draw?” Lance offered.
Keith made a non-committal noise and started to pen little stars around the freckles on his arm.
“He loves it!” Jenny announced, running back over while the guys started to wander into the house. Neither Keith nor Lance seemed to notice or care that the yard was slowly emptying.
Keith was more distracted by the fingers lightly laying on his thigh as he drew down the man’s arm. Probably would have cared about the fact she was outing him like that otherwise.
“Here, I have a blue one too.” She grinned, “In case he wants an option.” She offered another pen to Lance who smiled good naturedly at her but otherwise didn’t move much for fear of disturbing the little doodle artist.
It was a few minutes later that Keith raised his head from his makeshift canvas and realized most of the yard was empty.
“Where is everyone?”
Lance looked just passed Keith’s head and let out a long slightly high pitched noise, “I… have no idea.”
“Should we go find them?”
“Do you want to?”
“…Not really.”
Lance huffed out a laugh through his nose and raised his hand up toward the yard light, just to see what Keith had drawn.
“Nice. Like a tattoo.”
“The crappiest pen tattoo. Yup.”
“Your turn?”
Keith blinked at him, then at the pen in Lance’s other hand and laughed outright, “Oh. You want to draw on me now?”
Lance arched an eyebrow, (a very nicely formed eyebrow too. But there was no way this guy went out and got them done, right?) “Well it’s only fair isn’t it?”
Keith scrunched up his face and looked thoughtfully up at the yard awning above their heads that was blocking the night sky from view.
“Who said I wanted to be fair.”
Lance laughed again and it made Keith wither in his seat a little, made him want to be compliant. Made him want to make the other happy.
Too much to drink. Probably. For sure. Right?
“Well!” Lance chuckled, “How about I only draw a little, and you can keep working on mine?”
Keith would have said yes regardless, so he offered Lance his hand, “Have at it.”
Lance drew stars too. Equipped with swirls of space dust and crude little ringed planets.
Keith added detail to his night sky, shading and adjusting the “sketch” here and there. Lance giggled occasionally, the pen apparently tickling his skin. Keith wasn’t ticklish, but he did like the way Lance’s palm pressed against his arm as he drew.
When they did eventually walk through the house in search of the rest of the party they didn’t find them. They went out to the front yard, to see if the cars were there, but all vehicles were accounted for.
Keith wasn’t sure what was going on, but Lance pieced it together when he noticed one of the cars had very dull music playing. The window tint made it difficult to see in the dark, but there were definitely people inside.
“That kind of smoking. Damn.” Lance scoffed, motioning toward the car.
Keith finally noticed it then and realized quite suddenly what Jenny had said earlier, “…She thinks I don’t smoke?”
Lance blinked at him. Keith blinked back and then offered him an awkward laugh, “You can forget I said that.”
“Sure.”
“So now what?”
Lance glanced at the packed car, shrugged his shoulder and then motioned for a car parked across the street, “Wanna listen to music?”
“Sure.”
Keith would later try to blame the alcohol for what happened next. When Lance took his hand and pulled him across the street, reaching into his pocket for his car keys. Lance didn’t get the chance to pull them out because Keith had tugged on his hand and turned him around to face him.
Keith stepped forward and Lance stepped back until his own car blocked him in.
Keith wrapped his arms around Lance’s neck, waiting for some kind of confirmation.
He got it in the form of Lance’s arms around his waist and a smile that was so very soft.
Hopeful.
An expression Keith remembered having worn himself, on occasion.
He probably wore it now.
Lance’s eyes were very pretty.
Calming.
Safe.
Lance was a stranger but somehow he was also… home.
These arms kept him stable, covered in little ink stars to match the ones on Keith’s own skin.
When he kissed Lance that night he’d blame it on the alcohol. He’d tell himself it was a one time thing. No big deal.
It wasn’t like Lance’s lips were the softest things he’d ever felt and that his warmth didn’t envelop him and take him somewhere so far away his problems felt so small. It wasn’t like standing there against the little blue sedan in the middle of the night was the closest Keith had ever been to whole.
He’ll tell himself, when they crawl into the car together and end up do nothing more than holding hands and listening to music and telling each other little anecdotes, that it meant nothing.
He’ll tell himself for weeks that he’d been an idiot to type his number into Lance’s phone, that Lance would get tired of him and that it just wouldn’t work out.
He’ll tell himself for months, when he has Lance in his arms almost nightly, that it’s not love.
It’s not love. It’s not love.
He’s not stupid enough to put himself through that again. No.
When Lance tells him how important he is, how special, how…
“God, Kitten, I knew you were mine the moment I saw you.”
It’s not…
“You’re joking right?”
“Okay, you’re right, my first thought was, “who the fuck am I? who the fuck are YOU?” But somewhere between you being a giant psycho and you telling everyone the wrong name I decided. This one. This one is definitely mine.”
“…”
“With your greasy mullet and your pajama top and your attitude.”
“…”
“Definitely all mine.”
Fuck.
“I think…”
“Yeah, Keith?”
“…I think it’s your turn to pick the show tonight.”
“Sure.”
....
.... .... ....
.... .... .... .... ....
When Keith does say he loves him it’s two cups in, Jenny’s number blowing up Lance’s phone, and from the comfort of Lance’s lap.
After the first half a dozen times he says it Lance kisses him so hard he can’t catch his breath. But he still says it hundreds of times that night. Desperate. Because the words really aren’t enough to convey what Lance really does to him. He cries the words against Lance’s lips time and time again. Says them into his neck when he’s buried his face there, trying to breath him in. Says them against his chest as if the closer proximity to his heart will mean something.
He says the stupid word so much it starts to sound synonymous to Lance’s name.
Lance doesn’t say them back.
Keith tells himself it’s because Lance is afraid of the same things he was. He’s afraid to feel things as strongly as Keith let himself that night. He tells himself that. Lance pursued him. Lance chose him. Lance wanted him.
Lance wouldn’t kiss him like that, hold him like that, make him feel like that if it didn’t mean something in the end.
That’s what he tells himself.
He doesn’t need the words. Because Lance’s actions speak for themselves.
And maybe this is the reality where Keith gets to be right.
And maybe this is the reality Jenny was just a being a good friend.

In Front of You
A/N: I couldn't decide if I wanted a Klance soulmate AU or a Spiderman AU, so I compromised and started this series forever ago on my ao3 account! Figured I would post it here! (Also I couldn't fit the whole story on here so if you like it, heres the link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/13036992 )
Keith Kogane sat at his lunch table, head bowed down as he read from a chemistry book, Katie - or as everyone called her, Pidge - sat across from  him, her own nose buried in a mathematics book. The table they were seated at was small and pushed to the corner of the lunchroom, no one else sitting there except them. People trudged tiredly around the lunchroom, as they did every Monday.
Keith shifted in his seat, neck aching from the awkward angle as he straightened and stretched, raising his arms above his head. Pidge glanced up, staring at her companion from the tops of her glasses.
“What, didn’t get enough sleep last night, Spi -” Before the female could even finish her sentence, Keith reached into his pocket, pulling out a small pink eraser and flinging it to the other. Pidge didn’t even flinch as it bounced off her chin, instead chuckling cheekily at Keith’s reaction.
Groaning, Keith rubbed at his eyes, dark circles could be seen sitting snugly beneath. “Shut up,” There was no heat behind Keith’s words, just tiredness. He yawned and glanced back at his book. “Are you still going to come over tonight to study?”
Pidge nodded, a glint in her eyes that showed she was excited. “Yup. I’m coming for dinner too. Your brother is an amazing cook.”
Of course, Keith knew she wasn’t excited over the food. Well, she was, but she also was excited to work on the tech the two had been slaving over for the past year.
Keith smiled and shrugged, fiddling with his leather, fingerless gloves. “That’s fine with me.What about Hunk’s cooking?”
“What about my cooking?”
Both heads turned upwards to see Hunk standing there, a lunch tray in his hands and a tall, blue eyed boy standing behind him.
Pidge piped up first, adjusting her round glasses. “Just talking about how amazing your cooking is. Especially that new cake recipe you came up with last week.”
The two launched into easy conversation, and Hunk sat down next to Keith, gesturing for the boy with him to sit down next to Pidge. As he sat, Keith felt warmth rise to his face as he observed the newcomer. Blue eyes that reminded Keith of the ocean, tanned and soft looking skin, chocolate brown hair, and a smug grin planted on his face. Keith barely registered that the other had caught him staring.
“See something you like, mullet?”
Scrunching his nose, Keith stared at the other as Hunk and Pidge’s conversation halted, now viewing the exchange that was happening.
The comeback had been teasing, so Keith shrugged and replied easily. “Just an eyesore at the table. Who’re you?”
The blue eyes boy blinked before his mouth and eyes widened, stuttering. “Wha... Eyesore ?”
Pidge snickered and Keith felt a grin grow on his face at the other’s reaction before Hunk coughed awkwardly.
“Ah, sorry I haven’t introduced you all. Guys, this is Lance. He just moved here,” Hunk pointed to everyone as he introduced them. “This is Keith and Pidge.”
Lance turned to Pidge, raising an eyebrow. “Pidge? That’s kind of a weird name.”
She shrugged closing her textbook. “It’s a nickname. My real name is Katie, but everyone calls me Pidge.”
Lance seemed to ponder it for only a few seconds before shrugging. “Alright. Guess I’ll call you Pidge then.”
Keith furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. It would be strange for Lance to call Pidge by her given name since everyone called her Pidge anyways. “Well, why wouldn’t you call her Pidge?”
Once again those blue eyes were on him and Keith swallowed nervously. “Because her name’s Katie.”
“But everyone calls her Pidge anyways. It would be weird for you to call her Katie.”
“I didn’t ask for your opinion, mullet .”
“Excuse me for pointing out the obvious things you can’t see, blockhead.”
The banter escaped Keith’s mouth naturally as he crossed his arms. Lance mirrored the position, a stubborn look on his flawless face. Hunk and Pidge exchanged looks before Hunk sighed and Pidge began giggling into her hand.
“And what’re you laughing at?” Lance whipped his head to Pidge who just grinned and shook her head.
“Nothing much.. You two only just met but you sound like an old married couple.”
Lance shook his head in disbelief. “A married...”
Keith rolled his eyes but laughed. “Pidge likes to make jokes. You’ll get used to it.”
Hunk nodded in agreement. “She makes a lot of jokes. Though most of the time she doesn’t consider the situation before making a joke.”
Pidge rolled her eyes. “It’s not my fault some people can’t take a joke,” She turned to Lance, placing her chin in her palm as she stared at him curiously. “So, where did you move here from?”
“California,” Lance replied easily. “I lived there most of my life, but I’m adjusting pretty well so far.”
Hunk made a noise of understanding. “Yeah, moving from the place you’re so used to can be hard. Man, you should’ve seen Keith when he first came here in our last middle school year.”
Keith groaned, all too familiar with how he had been then. It was when he had first moved in with Shiro and his parents.
Pidge was obviously amused at his discomfort as she began describing how Keith had acted during middle school. “He hardly talked to anyone. He was a huge loner. He also got into fights a lot.”
Hunk shuddered. “I always felt really bad for the other guys.”
Lance looked to Keith with uncertainty. “You? Fight? No way.” Keith shrugged, looking down at the lunch table instead of having to look at the other.
Hunk laughed and answered for Keith, wrapping a friendly arm around the other. “Yes way. He even got into fights into high school,” Hunk stopped for a second, seeming to ponder a thought. “Though, he hasn’t got into a fight since sometime last year, I think? Right?”
Keith nodded. “Yeah, probably.” Of course, after gaining some concerning amount of strength, Keith refused to start fights with anyone. Not wanting to use his mutant strength to fight some school bully when he could be putting it to better use.
The sound of the lunch bell rang through the lunchroom, and most of the students stood, herding out the doors like zombies. Lance made way to stand as well before Pidge yanked him back down.
“Chill out. There’ll be plenty of time to go to class after the hord leaves.”
Tearing his gaze away from Lance, Keith decided to start packing up, shoving his textbook into his bag as the other three chattered away.
“Oh, we should invite Lance to our Friday movie night this week!” Hunk exclaimed as he stood and pulled on his bag, everyone else doing the same.
Keith risked a glance at the new member of their friend group and shrugged. “If he wants. That’s fine with me,” The four started moving out of the cafeteria.
Pidge nodded in agreement. “Yeah, me too.”
Keith watched as Lance looked on with a curious look. “So this is like a weekly thing?”
Hunk nodded. “Yup. We get together at one of our houses and just watch movies all night.”
Pidge grinned. “And the first one to fall asleep gets their face drawn on.”
“Yeah, last week was me,” Hunk cringed at the memory. “I was in the bathroom trying to wash it off for a good thirty minutes.”
Lance laughed and ran a hand through his hair. “Seriously? Well, I’m in. Challenge accepted.”
The four smiled and talked about what movie they should watch first before the bell rang and they all jumped, saying rushed goodbyes and hurrying to their classroom.
~~~~~
“Keith, there’s two guys in there and one of them has a gun. Be careful.”
Pidge’s voice was hard and slightly laced with worry. Keith grinned as he shot a web from his wrist and swung building to building, on his way to stop a robbery in a little restaurant that had recently opened.
“I’m always careful, Pidge.”
“You mean like that time you got shot last year?” Her voice was unamused as they talked through their coms.
Keith scoffed as he landed in front of the restaurant, finally being able to see the situation. There was a guy with a handgun, pointing said weapon at a small crowd of hostages crowded together. There was another guy at the register, pulling money out and placing it into a black bag.
“I’m going in.”
“Alright. Be back before dinner and don’t get too injured. Shiro will get suspicious.”
Keith resisted the urge to roll his eyes beneath his mask at the warning Pidge gave every time he went into a fight. Sure, it was nice she cared but she said it every single time without fail. He walked up and stepped through the door, which had been shattered with glass bits laying on the ground.
“You know if you’re going to pay for the damage you’ve done here, take it out of your own pockets.” Keith grinned as both perpetrators whipped around to look at him. The gun stayed pointed on the civilians.
“Spiderman!” The guy at the register exclaimed, seemingly baffled. Keith clapped and walked over to him as the criminal started to shake.
“Wow, aren’t you the bright one. I’d say you deserve a reward but,” Keith gestured to the bag filled with money and to the hostages. “It kind of cancels out.” With a grin, Keith launched forward with inhuman speed, punching the criminal in the head and knocking him to the ground. When he didn’t get up, Keith turned to his partner in crime.
“How about you, twig? Wanna go at it or are you gonna make things easier on yourself and surrender?”
The man snarled and the gun in his hand started to shake. “I’ll shoot them! Just give me the money and I’ll get out of here! No one will be hurt!”
Keith sighed. “Guess you’re aiming for the hard way then.” He took a step forward and the unnamed man took a step backward.
“Any sudden movements and I’ll shoot!”
Keith raised his hands and stopped moving, trying to assess what he could do. “Alright, just chill out.”
Pidge’s voice came through the earpiece again. “Keith, be careful. Just hit him with your webs and take the gun.”
Nodding, Keith was about to do just that when a shrill voice interrupted the scene.
“What happened ?”
All heads turned to see the newcomer. Keith’s eyes widened as he realised who it was. Pidge also seemed to realise.
“Shit. Keith, make sure Lance doesn’t do anything!”
Keith was more worried about the criminal at the moment who had turned abruptly and had started raising the gun to Lance. Adrenaline rushed through Keith’s veins as he shot a web out to Lance, pulling the taller boy to his side and grabbing onto the other’s tan arm. Keith kept his grip as he used his other hand to web up the perpetrator's gun before releasing his grip and running up to the man, grabbing onto the collar of his sweatshirt, and slamming his fist into the middle of the man’s forehead, effectively knocking him out.
Keith let the man drop to the floor and looked to the hostages, expecting them to jump up in jubilation, but instead they stayed sitting on the floor. They all seemed to be staring at the same thing. Keith followed their gaze to where Lance stood, holding his arm out as he too stared in disbelief. It was then when Keith took note of the explosion of colors on Lance’s arm, in the form of a hand grip.
“Holy shit… This could be bad. Keith, check your hand!” Pidge’s voice as urgent and Keith nodded, pulling off the glove of his right hand. Sure enough, there was a similar explosion of colors. Reds, blues, purples and pure white stained his skin in a similar way to the galaxy.
Now the crowd was ecstatic, jumping up all at once and speaking loudly.
“We just witnessed Spiderman find his soulmate!”
“People are going to go crazy for this information! I need to post this!”
“Do you think he’ll reveal who he is now?”
“This is so romantic!"
More words followed and Keith looked up to Lance as he pulled his glove back on. The tan boy was staring at him in awe. Keith swallowed thickly as he marched forward.
Those blue eyes he had first seen earlier that day looked him up and down. “So… What’s up with the spandex?” Despite not stuttering, it was still evident that Lance was as nervous as Keith was. The only difference being, Lance had no problem speaking.
Keith just gaped at him like a fish out of water.
Lance laughed and the noise was music to Keith’s ears. “What, cat got your tongue, Spidey?”
There was a camera flash and Keith turned to the observes in panic. Everyone was going to know Lance was the soulmate of Spiderman. Everyone would be looking for a person with their mark on their right hand. People could start targeting Lance. Bad people.
“Keith,” Pidge’s voice showed she had also realised the situation. “This could turn very bad. Get out of there now.”
Keith sighed, and bowed his head, making sure to lower his voice a few octaves so that Lance wouldn’t recognize him. “I have to go.”
Lance blinked. “Wait, go? We just met and-”
“This isn’t a good place, Lance.”
Lance looked at him with surprise and Keith regretted saying his name. “So you know me?”
Groaning, Keith facepalmed, walking to the restaurants door. “Look, I’ll come and find you some other time, okay?”
Disappointment flashed on Lance’s face and Keith felt guilt flare up inside him. Sure, he wanted to talk to Lance about everything, but with everyone’s phones out? It was too dangerous for an identity reveal.
“Promise?” Lance asked quietly.
Keith nodded in response. "Promise."
But then, Lance grinned and winked. “It’s a date then, Spidey. I look forward to it.”
Keith was glad he was wearing his mask then, if only to cover his blush. He nodded curtly instead of giving a verbal reply as sirens sounded from down the street. The cool night air was relieving as he swung away, thoughts weighing heavy on his mind.
One hell of a rough day.
Klance, voltron legendary defenders. A AU where Lance and Keith live together on earth as friends. Lance's pov I sigh, grabbing my keys, ice cream in my hair, bruises on my face, and my own blood on my shirt. I slowly push the key into the apartment door;walking in and close it behind me. I let my backpack fall onto the floor in front of the door as I lazily trudge into my room, taking my hoodie and shirt off as I do, the large scrap on my torso bleeding. Sighing as I kick my shoes off and pull of my denim shorts to the ground. I walk into the bathroom, my eyes half lidded. "L-LANCE!!" Kieth screams, grabbing a towel to cover his nude wet body. I fully open my eyes and gasp,my cheeks getting hot. "S-sorry I uhm.."I wave a hand over my bruised and battered body and wet sticky hair. Kieth ties the towel around his waist, rushing to me. "Fuck, what happened?" "E-ehh.. I was w-wearing my 'Bisexual Unicorn' shirt and... a guy started beeting my up while I was walking down the street...I manged to get away..." I explained to Keith; he sighs and softly pushes me down onto the bathtub side. I watch him as he looks around the room for what I asumme is the first aid kit.He grabs it and quickly moves in front of me, sitting on his knees, starting to patch my tan legs up, slowly moving up my body to the large scrap. I grit my teeth as Keith puts a antispetic cream on the scrap, slowly starting to put a large bandages around my torso. "Shh...it'll be okay..." Kieth says, continuing to fix me up. I yawn, almost falling back into the bathtub. "Hey I'm going to wash your hair, alright?" Keith askes, I tiredly nod in responce as he wets my hair and starts massaging the shampoo into my skalp. Kieth slowly pulls me up onces he's finished, tiredly I hold onto him as he walks me to my room, both of is partially nude. He lays me down on my bed. I look up at him and accidentally pulls Kieth on top of me, his towel falling off as it happens. Both of us blush brightly, my heart pounding as I look at him, his warm body pessed up against my own. "S-Sorry..." I murmured, looking at him, a small smile grow on his face. "Don't be~" He leans up and softly kisses me. My eyes whiden as he dose, his hands gently wraping around me. I slowly kiss back, blushing more and more. I slowly break the kiss, looking at Kieth. "So uhmm....be my boyfriend?" Kieth chuckles and rolls his eyes, making me slightly worryed. "Of course you big idiot." I smile brightly, and pecks his lips. He smiles and pushes himself to my side, laying on my bed nude. I blush and smile at him, cuddling closer to him, both of us falling asleep. Kieths pov, next morning I slowly open my eyes, seeing a asleep Lance huddled around me. I silently chuckle and kiss his forehead and slowly get out of bed, finding a pair of short sleep shorts and a t-shirt of Lance's putting them on quickly and moving to the kitchen,I grabs my phone and putting MCR on as I grab stuff to make breakfast for me and Lance. "They're gonna clean up their looks with all the lies in the books to make a citizen out of me~" I smile, continuing to sing MCR, slightly dancing as I cook, not knowing Lance was watching. "Because they sleep with a gun and keep a eye on your son so they can watch all the things you do~" I smirk, waving my hips around as I flip a pancake. "Because the drugs never work!They're gonna give you a smirk! 'Cause they got methods of keeping you clean~" I finish up on the pancakes, starting to cook little sausage pattys, waving my hips and butt out and around more."They gonna rip up your heads, your aspirations to shreds, another cog in the murder machi-" Warm hands wrap around my ass, slightly pulling the loose shorts down, making me dolt and slightly scream. I whip my head around, Lance standing behind me smirking. "Oh MY GOD LANCE!! YOU SCARED ME!" Lance chuckles suducivly, making me blush. I continue to cook the sausage, shaking my head. I finally finish cooking breakfast, Lance of course nuzzling and kissing my neck the entire time. I put the pancakes and sauasge on plates, adding surup and butter to both of them and putting the plates on the table. "Hm~ you know what would look sweeter on the table~?" Lance asks, making me quiet confused. "What..?" Lance pushes his hand into my shorts, groping my ass gently. "hm~ you with out these clothes~" I blush furiously, quickly covering my face. "L-LANCE!!" I squeak out. Lance smirks and chuckles, sitting down and starting to eat.I blush more and shakily sit down, slowly eating, thinking about what Lance said, making me getting slightly turned on. I sigh eating quickly as my erection gets more intince. As I finish, I quickly run to the bathroom, bitting his lip roughly. I quickly push the shorts off, my erect cock bouncing out. I slowly wrap my hand around my cock, jerking myself off quickly, grunting loudly as I drops to his knees. "f-fuck..." I jerks myself off faster, moaning and groaning louder. The bathroom door opens, Lance there. I quickly pull the shirt over my bodY. Lance gose over to me, pushing me to the floor, his clothed erection rubbing on my own. He kisses me passionatly, I slowly kisses back, Lance quickly pushing his boxers off, his fingers going around my thighs. "M-May I?" Lance asks, his fingers closer to my hole, I quickly nod, Lance slowly pushing his finger into me. "A-ah~!" I moan, Lance pushing his finger farther into him, adding another finger, slowly thrusting them in and out of me, making me moan louder. "A-AH~ L-LANCE~!" He pulls his fingers out of me, pushing himself into my hole. I moan as Lance thrusts quickly into him. Both of us, already leaking precum, and within a minute we both cum, panting lightly. "W-Wow..." I mutter, looking up at him. "y-yeah.." Lances softly kisses me, making me smile and kiss back. Both of us laying on the floor. "That's not how I planed this morning Lance.." I mutter,wraping a arm around around Lance. He chuckles "Yeah..I love you baby" Lance says kissing my earlobe. I giggle. "I love you too..."
