Let's talk Fate
ok for #kpanniversary2024 the first prompt is Fate and boy howdy is that a good one to start a rewatch with. Because from the very beginning, as soon as Kinn and Porsche crossed paths there was only one way it was going to play out. In fact, even before that, Porsche's fate was sealed as soon as he was born and here's why:
Porsche was always going to end up in the Theerapanyakul family one way or another. Nampheung was basically kidnapdopted when she was child by Grandpa T, was raised by him, grew up with Korn and Gun who both end up in love with her (or at least psychosexually obsessed with her). And when she was old enough she got out of there. She married a man and had (what we assume to be) an ordinary life for at least 8 years. But here's the thing: Nampheung never actually got out.
Tumblr media
Nampheung was allowed her little housewife cottagecore daydream by Grandpa T. I call it that kind of dismissively, we don't know anything about her life, actually, maybe she had a highpower job, etc etc. but the point is that as soon as Grandpa T decides to call her back home, back to the Theerapanyakul Mafia, she is powerless to stop it. In the flashbacks we see of the moment Porsche's dad died, The things that really sticks out to me are these 3:
1: Gun and Korn both came to visit and in at least one version, they are there at the behest of Grandpa T who wants to see Nampheung.
Tumblr media
2: Pat says that they will never go back to that house and that the family is rotten. (which implies that Pat also has a connection to the family, I am a 'Pat was Nampheung's bodyguard and they ran away together' truther and this leads into the last point and perhaps the most significant
Tumblr media
3) Porsche was hiding in the cabinets when Korn and Gun are there. Now, I don't know about how your family operates but i'm pretty confident that isn't exactly normal behavior when your family has guests. Like, little kids are usually pretty excited to have company, especially people who grow up to be as extroverted and gregarious as Porsche is. Korn and Gun are obviously unaware in the moment that Porsche is hiding. Pat probably knows because I'm convinced that this is a safety drill they'd run many times. Nampheung and Pat knew that someday, Grandpa T's generosity would run out, or he'd die, and the Theerapanyakuls would come calling again. They were trying so hard to keep Porsche out of that life, but it was never going to happen. If they'd lived, Korn and Gun would show up to darken their doorstep at some point. And since they died...well, how did that turn out, hmmm?
Porsche (and Chay but lmao Korn and Gun don't give a single fuck about Chay so we'll just ignore the baby for now ) ends up in the guardianship of an unreliable gambler under the thumb of loansharks. Porsche ends up in illegal street fights to make money. He is being pushed in the Theerapanyakul's direction. Make no mistake, at some point the loan on his house was going to end up in Theerapanyakul hands, or Chan was going to come up to Porsche after a fight, and that would be that. There is no world in which Korn lost track of his beloved Nampheung's sons, not when he's so obsessed with her he has her locked up in his attic. Gun, at least, has the excuse of thinking Porsche and Chay are dead along with their parents. Korn was just playing the long game.
Is it fair to call it fate when it's being orchestrated by someone? Well, I guess that depends how far back you think the hereditary curse goes.
It was never about Kinn and Porsche at all. Nampheung knew it was always going to end here. She tried to stop it. It didn't work. She was never going to get out. Her sons were never going to get out. And now they're more enmeshed than if she'd never tried at all. Sounds like fate to me.

Maybe Kim should have asked
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At first glance this banter is meaningless. We saw the goons going from the minor family house on the rampage.
We would guess who sent them even without Kim's input. But there's no meaningless things in a good production such as KinnPorsche the series.
It is seemingly obvious it was either Gun or Vegas. But Gun offered protection to Porsche. But why would he need a leverage for Porsche? I don't know when Gun came to knowledge that Porsche is Napheung's son, but it was some time before the massacre. He already had a plan to look for Nampheung, because "He [Korn] told me that he killed everyone but look here are the two of you!". Gun is a creep, but he seemed genuinly concerned about Nampheung. He didn't want to harm her children, if it wasn't nesessary. In Porsche he saw a chance that Nampheung's alive too.
Now, Gun must have known that Porchay was nothing to Korn directly. Porsche was definitely something - and I think we saw only glimpse of his importance. Korn planned on taking over the minor family and he could appoint the head as he pleased. He chose Porsche. Korn seeked Porsche out, he aquired him as last chess piece - black queen (as on Theerapanyakul's blazon), he kept his mother (as real leverage???), he appointed him.
But Gun thought that Korn was dead. So, Kinn?
Enter Vegas. Vegas did just that. He just took Chay as a leverage against Porsche, to lure him in, so he could frame him and get rid of him a week or so before. Why would he need to split force to capture Chay again? Vegas didn't even know whose side Porsche would choose. But he knew, that Porsche is Kinn's heart, so he probably could try again anyway. And he of course knew where Porchay is. The last "but" is — such repetition is unlikely for the movie narrative.
As for Korn, he provoked all the massacre with his "death". He not only didn't give a damn if everyone would end up dead, starting with Tankhun and ending with Chay. He probably was interested in as many body count as possible. When diva announces that they retire from the stage, it is the biggest lie ever. All this declining health talk had some truth: Korn was preparing for his health to naturally decline. And he did it by trying to eliminate biggest threat to his reign - his family. He did it while he was actually in charge and in a good Form. Smart move!
So why if it's so obvious that probably Vegas did send those men after Chay (maybe on his father's demand), Kim tells us (who else!) that it is indeed obvious?
Maybe because it actually isn't? Maybe we guessed wrong?
I think it was Korn. And Kim, suspecting that the "death" was a trick, probably knew it too. How important Porsche was to his father.
Bonus:

Oh, he will.

The more I think about it the more I’m convinced that Chan dying was always Korn’s plan. Chan knew too much to be allowed to live

you ever think about how chan was aware of the entire kittisawasd situation and just lived with that? man seemed so unbothered by the fact that korn shot his sister's husband, locked his sister in the attic, abandoned her children, and then employed her oldest son to be their bodyguard years later?? it's so wild to me, chan likely knew baby porsche, he knew nampheung, and now like 15 years later that same baby is on their front steps accepting a job as his trainee and chan just,,, goes along with it no problem?? does not say a thing?? I mean i dont expect him to blurt out secrets but i cant imagine how weird that must have been for him?
not to mention the fact he KNEW that porsche and kinn were "cousins"??? man KNEW they were semi-related (or fully related, for all he was told), and he just,,,, stood there. unbothered. whatever. not his business. man saw them making out knowing full well porsche's mom was in the attic and they were half-related and he never said a thing.
i wonder what other kind of messed up things this man has seen to become the king of being unbothered. it's almost impressive

wtf, WTF, WTAF
Rummaging around in Ep 14 this time, and we’ve ...
We’ve talked about the Porsche-Namphueng-Chay scene that closes out the show just before the end credits, specifically SET AGAINST the parallel Vegaspete + Macau post-credits scene, right?
RIGHT?
The way these two little families contrast each other? The artificial distance and utter creepiness of the Porsche-Namphueng-Chay scene vs. the warmth and inclusion of the Vegaspete + Macau scene?
Namphueng = Vegas. Porsche = Pete (NOT the first time we’ve seen this parallel, which has been threaded all through the show). Chay = Macau.
Both Namphueng and Vegas are damaged in some way, coming into the scene. Porsche initiates contact, opening the door to Namphueng’s secret garret to bring in her younger son and allow her to meet Chay, the same way Pete opens the curtains in Vegas’s hospital room to let the light from outside in. But from there, everything falls apart, down parallel but separate paths. Namphueng’s been disengaged for years and that doesn’t change here – there’s no sudden awakening from her on meeting her children - while Vegas had life-threatening injuries that he nevertheless appears to be recovering from, on his way back to life, however gently he may need to be treated temporarily. Porsche works repeatedly in a largely futile attempt to engage his mother, who never speaks or reaches out to either of her children and seems to just endure their physical encroachment when they both hug her, while Vegas immediately responds to Pete and then proceeds to initiate the most real, most honest discussion they’ve probably ever had, leading to a kiss that reaffirms their emotional bond, then tells him “come here” to get Pete into his lap where he can have increased physical contact with him. Chay – however much he wants his mom - has to be encouraged by Porsche to actually initiate physical contact with her, while Macau verbally insinuates himself into the VegasPete interaction, then physically grabs Pete by the shoulders, then plops down on the bed and crawls up behind Pete to also crowd into Vegas’s lap and join the growing cuddle pile. Porsche and Chay kneel on the floor at either side of Namphueng, while Pete and Macau sit and then lie on Vegas’s bed, eventually crawling into his lap. Vegas is CLEARLY in cuddle heaven, smiling and proceeding to smooch on Macau’s head and Pete’s dimple as they snuggle into him, in contrast to Namphueng’s blank and - what looks to me to be - increasingly uncomfortable stare into the distance as both her sons try to hug her. The entire tableau with Namphueng and her sons is CLEARLY strained and awkward and uncomfortable, in direct contrast to the Vegaspete + Macau scene, which yes, includes Pete being awkward about PDA with Vegas when Macau sticks his big teenaged nose in, but which ends with Vegas literally enfolding both of them into his arms as Macau physically gloms onto Pete and Pete wiggles deeper into Vegas’s lap.
Submitted: These two scenes are INTENTIONAL parallels and deliberately contrast each other. They’re designed to make us incredibly uneasy about Porsche and Chay re-engaging with their mother and whatever family dynamics surround that, while at the same time trying to reassure us that VegasPete + Macau, whatever bumps in the road they may face going forward, are a fundamentally solid and potentially healthier relationship constellation than the one we just saw immediately pre-credits.
I … I really want to know who the VegasPete stan was amongst TPTB, because they really seemed to want us to get that these guys are ultimately going to be OK, whether we get an S2 etc. that lets us see how they get there.
Also, TPTB appears to want us to understand that Porsche and anything surrounding him, particularly his family relationships, are really really NOT ok as of the end of S1.

Do you ever think about the fact that before Korn shot him Gun started to say something about Namphueng & whatever that was is probably the reason he killed him & yet they STILL haven’t announced Season 2????

KP Anniversary Event Week 2; prompt "Phoenix"
Porsche noticed that only a few things seemed to affect Namphueng. Mostly it was art and Porsche figured out it was the best way to communicate with his mother. Porsche himself did not have any good drawing ability so he fell back on using other art to show her things.
After weeks of looking for the original drawing Namphueng did of the phoenix, Porsche found it and brought it to her.
“Look what I found,” Porsche said with a smile. Namphueng stopped the brushing motion and turned away from her canvas to look at the paper. Porsche saw her eyes widen the tiniest bit; you wouldn’t have seen it if you weren’t looking. She set her brush down and reached to grab the paper.
Porsche let her grab it, and he watched as she traced the lines of the phoenix with her finger.
“It was the only piece of yours I was able to keep,” Porsche said quietly. “I don’t know what happened to the rest.”
Porsche watched as her eyes trailed over the piece. He let her take it in for a minute or so before he spoke again.
“I actually got that tattooed on me,” Porsche said. He looks from the piece of paper to his mother, only to find her already looking at him with that almost blank stare.
“From the ashes of the fire, the phoenix will rise,” Porsche said with a voice as steady as he could muster. That’s what she told him about the mythical bird.
Namphueng looked at the drawing, then at Porsche, and then back to the drawing. She got up, walked to the desk in the corner of her room, and opened one of the drawers. Porsche watched as she pulled out an empty picture frame and put the drawing in the frame. He watched as she carefully folded it, to make it fit perfectly. Once she was done, she walked to the bookshelf and moved some things to make room for the new picture.
When she was done, she nodded to herself and walked back to her stool and canvas. She sat back down, smoothed out her dress, and went back to painting.
Porsche got up and put his arm around her and gave her a soft hug.
“I’m glad you like it,” Porsche whispered.
And he watched Namphueng pick the brush back up and watched her paint two little foxes cuddling together under a garden of flowers.
Porsche wonders who the foxes are supposed to represent.
He looks at the finished canvases on the floor and his eyes are brought back to one of the two birds in the gold cage. He sighs and drops his arm from his mother’s shoulders.
“Don’t worry, I’ll figure it out,” Porsche said. “I’ll see you next week.” He promises.

I remember being taken aback by this in my first watch of the show, ‘cause like - why would his mom say that? From what we’d seen so far, it didn’t seem like they grew up in a rough area, and surely their money troubles started after the parents died…
But I guess Kinn’s complete non-reaction here should have clued me in - a mom being resigned to her son dying early is just a matter of course in the mafia…

10 Kinnporsche Rewatch Ep 2 Thoughts
the elevator is giving me Fancy Hotel Vibes. fucking rich people and their fancy hotel elevators in their fancy hotel houses.
the way Chan takes complete control of the bodyguard riot about to happen because of Porsche’s gremlin ass....Amazing. No Notes. Even Porsche looks like a scolded child.  Chan reaching out to fix Big’s jacket and giving him that “Oh so you DO know the rules”  my god. you just know that Big went and cried in his rooms about it. We’re so glad you’re here, Daddy Chan.
“Kinn is the most normal one in the family”  Pete was right and that is saying a lot about how batshit the Theerapanyakuls are. He tried to warn Porsche!
Tay and Time make no sense to me, it always felt like they should be more important than they wind up being. I have to assume there was a storyline about them in the books that was cut for time but on rewatch Tay’s weird later line about Time not loving him makes sense. If I was Tay I would have scratched Time’s eyes out at that smug little “tell your dad to find me one [a hot boytoy bodyguard like Porsche]”
❤️ Tankhun immediately stealing the show, it’s like he stepped out of a completely different genre to just wreck the tone. I love how Kinn just...plays along. they clearly love each other. But WHY did Tankhun have a mermaid costume
the fucking bread product placements. why.
knowing who the mole is, that was ABSOLUTELY a set up to send the drunk porsche after kinn instead of a sober bodyguard. and LMFAO at Porsche thinking Kinn was willingly fucking a woman instead of fighting  for his damn life against an assassin.
Ah, Vegas. Mr. Steal Yo Girl.
Pete shaming Porsche into realizing that Oh Shit, I’m In The Mafia Now For Realsies And Could Be Killed For My Gremlin Behavior is so funny.
Pete and Kinn being unable to properly hide their grins when Tankhun tries to trade Pete for Porsche, and playing along is so cute. i see you, rarest side of the OT4 love square 👀
and a bonus, secret 11th thought: Ooooh, Gun knows that there is Something going on with Porsche. He knows Korn is doing something.
