Rant about Harry Potter and JK Rowling, stick with me here
Ok, so, I hate JK Rowling. I feel like that's a given, right? Like, she's a transphobic homophobic bigot who hides behind feminism and routinely denies massive parts of the holocaust, and I despise her in ways that I don't think words can even express. I can't stand her, but y'know what I also can't stand?
When someone implies that my mother, who is one of the most supportive people I know, and a massive part of the founding, organization, and actions of a local group made specifically to fight Moms for Liberty and school boards in our area trying to harm trans and queer people, is transphobic because she likes Harry Potter
Wanna know why my mom likes Harry Potter? Because when she discovered the series at 12 years old, she quite literally lived in a cupboard under the stairs and was in an abusive household. The magic of the wizarding world or whatever was her escape, it's the reason she's still alive, and by extension, the reason I was ever alive.
But, sometimes, not even often, when I try to express even the most minimal amount of appreciation of that, someone says to me "but isn't JK Rowling transphobic? Why would you support someone like that? Are you transphobic?"
Which pisses me off beyond belief, as one might imagine
In this situation, "separate the art from the artist" isn't exactly a good phrase to use, given the fact that the goblins or whatever run the bank are Jewish stereotypes and the house elves generally being happy to work under their masters being a straight rip from the whole happy slave myth, and those are very very important things to recognize and understand, among others
I feel like it's a lot closer to "separate the hundreds if not thousands of lives she's helped from the hundreds if not thousands of lives she's ruined", or even better, understand that the good she's indirectly done for people makes all the bad that much more horrid
My mother is the closest thing to a hero in this entire world and I will not stand to hear one more person accuse her of being transphobic purely because she thinks fondly of a book series that saved her life. I will not stand for people saying she's just as bad as a holocaust denier because she owns every book in the series. I will not stand for anyone going entirely against their point of not judging a group as if it's monolithic by saying all Harry Potter fans are bad people, including my mother. And, once again, it's not often at all that this happens, but it happens and I'm pissed about it and needed to rant
Anyways rant over JK Rowling sucks don't believe a single thing she says and don't support her unless you wanna support someone actively trying to make the existence of queer people illegal

I've mentioned before that I go digging up some of the reactions to Izzy's character arc (especially from the people who hate it lol) to ponder and I'm still doing that, mainly because looking at how people apply lenses I cannot for the life of me understand is fascinating.
Anyway, still deciding if I've got more interesting thoughts to post later, but I do want to share a weird observation from immediately post-2x04 and 2x05 with the class:
So we've all seen "reliable narrator" debates that range from exploring possible meanings of a vague or emotionally loaded statement to just "my headcanon wasn't debunked because he could be lying obvs 🙄". Izzy enjoyers & Izzy haters clashed over this kind of stuff all hiatus - like to the point people were treated as deluded by a problematic blorbo crush if they thought he was honestly representing a conversation he had off screen as his basis for believing Edward intended to kill Stede. If you believed anything out of Izzy's mouth was informed by reality it was inherently suspect.
Which gave me fucking whiplash when - as far as I could tell - the first gut reactions to Stede's flattery suggesting Edward was praising Izzy to the high heavens were "I can't believe the writers fell so far into Izzy fandom that now they want us to believe this too"
Say WHAT
The people who questioned every single thing have apparently been taking the bitter truth so hard they have now switched to fully missing blatant unreliable narrator lines. It's amazing. We saw Stede talking to Edward - Izzy was not coming up (😘 Edward's avoidance) 🤣 and we know Stede was not exactly inquiring after him in S1. It could not be more heavily suggested that Stede is just saying nice, flattering things based on guessing Izzy and Edward have a long history and wanting Izzy to help him pirate better (the actual thing he and Edward just talked about).
I will give credit to at least one person who I saw sticking to their "Izzy was useless" guns in the immediate reaction, but iirc they proceeded to get excited about how Stede was luring Izzy into trust as some kind of ulterior motive (not pirate training, as Izzy sucks) that will surely be revealed soon, so a baffling and strange take but in a different way lol
I think they've successfully turned back around to "we're not supposed to take this literally" over the weekend, but it's truly a new world that they didn't all start there.

Can we send requests of our own plushies for you to rate? :)
Thanks so much for asking first of all. I’ve been thinking about this a whole lot (even before I drew the first plushie here) and I think I’ve finally decided that at least for now, I won’t be taking submissions for plushie ratings. Without getting too serious, the main reason is that I’m afraid that it will stop feeling as fun as it does now. I also really enjoy how happy people seem to be when they see a surprise rating that they weren’t expecting, which would happen much less often if I was spending time drawing submissions, too. I really hope that everyone understands

more and more the trans "community" really doesnt feel like a place for all of us, it feels more like a white trans circle jerk to convince themselves they dont need to be intersectional and examine/change the eurocentric ideas and standards theyre pushing that hurt trans poc. im tired, every trans poc i know is tired, feeling like we cant exist anywhere without being forced to conform to whiteness and god forbid we ever speak out about it or we get called too sensitive and told we "dont need to make it about race" or even sometimes that were transphobic despite being trans ourselves. more and more im cynical of white trans people because of this pattern. develop intersecionality or die, because im not being nice about it anymore, and i never should have been in the first place. there is no trans liberation if youre not liberating all of us by exterminating the eurocentricism within the trans community. its just plain old white supremacy repackaged with trans inclusiveness this time.

hello everyone! in light of a recent ask i have just recieved i just wanted to make just a few little things clear.
i do not control who wins or loses a poll. that depends entirely on how you vote. you are free to encourage others to vote for your choice through tags, comments, or any sort of propaganda.
on that note, if you create any sort of propaganda in places other than the tags, i will most likely reblog it.
however. this tournament is meant to be silly and light-hearted. please do not be rude to voters who vote differently than you, and know that i will avoid posting anything that bashes any particular character as much as possible.
i do not care if you hate a character with all your heart and soul, but i would prefer to keep it clear from this blog. we're here to do something silly and fun for everyone, regardless of favourite and least favourite members of the cast. this means keeping to solely positive discussions of the characters.
that's all! sorry for any inconvenience.
